Victoria Jane welcomes author Amanda Stacey to discuss her reimagined Lilith story, the journey from stay-at-home mom to published author, and the unexpected self-discovery that came from creating a strong female protagonist.• Amanda's book features Lilith as a monster hunter in a dual-timeline narrative that explores her history and present• The real monsters in her story are often ordinary men rather than supernatural creatures• Writing became Amanda's lifeline during a period of depression and isolation as a stay-at-home mother• Creating a strong, independent protagonist helped Amanda discover her own inner strength• Self-publishing requires building authentic connections with readers and fellow authors• Social media and in-person events are valuable for marketing without spending excessive money• Success as an author is a slow build rather than overnight viral sensation• Being a "pantser" rather than a plotter worked better for Amanda's creative process• Your first book might not be your best-selling one, but each publication increases your visibility• Celebrate small wins rather than comparing yourself to established authorsFind Amanda Stacey on social media @amandastaceyauthor on most platforms and @amandastaceybook on TikTok. When I'm not wrangling kids or cleaning up messes, I'm brainstorming storylines and working on my second novel. My first book, Born Out of Darkness, was self-published in 2023. It is the first book of The Lilith Series, a supernatural fantasy series that reimagines the infamous first woman, Lilith.Social media handles: Instagram, threads, facebook: @amandastaceyauthor TikTok: @amandastaceybooksAbout Victoria:Hey there, I'm Victoria! How do patterns of manipulation take root and hold sway, even within seemingly spiritual and empowering mentorships? In this eighth episode of the Bewitched series, we welcome Louisa Havers, a long-time associate and former teacher within Betty's Akashic Records community. Louisa offers a unique and deeply insightful perspective on the evolution of her relationship with Betty, revealing the subtle and not-so-subtle ways in which patterns of manipulation emerged and the ultimate impact on her and others .Louisa shares what initially drew her to Betty – a strong intuitive pull towards learning the Akashic Records. She recounts her early experiences, including a shocking and unfounded personal reading that, while not resonating with her, established Betty as someone with seemingly profound and unquestionable insight. As Louisa's involvement deepened, she began to witness troubling patterns: Unethical behavior in group settings, the use of spiritual concepts to justify harsh and exclusionary actions, experiences of feeling compelled to engage in programs despite inner reservations, among others.Louisa shares a significant shift in Betty's demeanor and focus around 2020, marked by an intense preoccupation with conspiracy theories and a paranoia that permeated her teachings.TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS(00:00) Intro(00:55) In Today's Episode... In this episode, we celebrate eight years of abiding together with you! We want to celebrate what God has done and is doing in not only our lives, but also in yours. We reflect on why we started the podcast and how our hearts still echo with a desire to help women grow closer to our Lord through communion with others. We share why we surrender the podcast to the Holy Spirit, how we've navigated supporting each other through different seasons of life, and what our hopes are for the future of the podcast. Most of all, we want to thank you for how you've received our vulnerability, your openness to us and the Lord, and your steadfastness in journeying with us along the way. Announcement: Join us for our Lenten Study beginning March 5th, 2025 as we journey through “Jesus and the Jubilee: The Biblical Roots of the Year of God's Favor“ by Dr. John Bergsma. We look forward to sitting at the feet of a leading scholar as we unpack what the Lord has in store for us in the year of Jubilee. Order your copy at the St. Paul Center with promo code “ABIDE15” for 15% off. There are also bulk discounts available. While “Jesus and the Jubilee” is currently backordered, the St. Paul Center expects a new shipment of books later this week and plans to fulfill your orders by late February. Journal Questions: Have I experienced friendships and relationships that have been anointed by the Lord? How can I steward my relationships, gifts, time, and opportunities well? When have I seen the difference between success and fruitfulness? Discussion Questions: When did you first start listening to the podcast? Do you have a favorite episode, season, series, or study? How did it bless you? What areas of your life can you surrender to the Lord to give growth? Quote to Ponder: "To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us - and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference." (Thomas Merton) Scripture for Lectio: "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, 'Thus far the Lord has helped us.'"

Passport Entanglements examines the problems with documents issued to Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong and explores the larger role that passports and other types of documentation play in gendered migration, precarious labor, and bureaucracy. Focusing on the politics and inequalities embedded in passports, anthropologist Nicole Constable considers how these instruments determine legal status and dictate rights. Constable finds that new biometric technologies and surveillance do not lead to greater protection, security, or accuracy, but rather reinforce violent structures on already vulnerable women by producing new vulnerabilities and reproducing old ones. Nicole Constable is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh and author of several books, including Romance on a Global Stage: Pen Pals, Virtual Ethnography, and "Mail Order" Marriages and Born Out of Place: Migrant Mothers and the Politics of International Labor. Maura is so excited to welcome Amanda Stacey to the podcast. Amanda shares her experience of losing her identity and vanishing behind her family. She was living her life solely for her husband and kids, with no time for herself. No one noticed when she lost an earring, which made her realize how invisible she had become. She tried to be happy with her role, but when she was inspired to write her book, it was like therapy. She created a strong, powerful character who does not disappear behind anyone and is a powerhouse. Amanda is a self-published author and a stay-at-home mom. She just released her debut novel, “Born Out of Darkness,” this past January 2023.

¿Te has sentido cansado física y mentalmente últimamente?
Was sagt ihr Herz dazu? Eat the frog in the morning.
Schools are both window and mirror into any society: authoritarian schools serve repressive regimes; segregated schools mirror severed societies; a free society builds schools anchored in enlightenment and liberation. David Omotoso Stovall lights up this episode with a conversation about the school to prison nexus, and the provocative possibility that the call for prison abolition link up with a demand to abolish the schools we have in favor of an education for freedom. Professor Stovall is an activist, a scholar, and the author or editor of several texts, including Born Out of Struggle: Critical Race Theory, School Creation, and the Politics of Interruption; From Education to Incarceration: Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline; Handbook of Social Justice in Education; Black, Brown, Bruised: How Racialized STEM Education Stifles Innovation; Teaching Toward Democracy; and Twenty-First-Century Jim Crow Schools: The Impact of Charters on Public Education.
Dr. David Stovall is professor of Educational Studies and African American Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. He is the author of Born Out of Struggle: Critical Race Theory, School Creation, and the Politics of Interruption; and co-author of Twenty-First-Century Jim Crow Schools: The Impact of Charters on Public Education. He speaks to us about the uprisings in Chicago after the murder of Laquan McDonald, Black precarity, police abolition, youth, and teachers. Mikaela Simms links the conversation with teacher preparation and education that centers questioning and social justice.
