This week, in LaPlace, Louisiana, a woman being horribly murdered, in her own home, leads detectives to see if any other nearby towns have had any similar murders. Turns out, there are many other murders that are very similar. As a matter of fact, they have a serial killer on their hands. The FBI does a profile, that doesn't help too much, but he is eventually caught. Only problem is that his motivations are much different than most serial killers, and none of the physical evidence matches him. Do they even have the right guy?? Along the way, we find out that Louisiana is not where you want to live, if you hate water, that not all serial killers have the same desires, or motives, and that bringing up someone's mother can often get them to tell you the horrible things that they've done!! In January of 2015, a neighbor in Apple Valley, Minnesota glanced through a front window and saw what he thought were mannequins on the floor. They weren't. David Crowley, his wife Komel, and their five-year-old daughter Rani had been dead for nearly a month — and a black handgun lay nearby. Investigators called it a murder-suicide. But Crowley wasn't just any filmmaker — he was the man behind Gray State, an independent film depicting a government takeover of America that had already raised over $60,000 and drawn the attention of anti-government movements across the country. To his supporters, the answer was obvious: David Crowley wasn't a killer. David Crowley was silenced.FEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: A Minnesota man espousing a coming “New World Order” was found dead with his family in 2015. Was it a murder-suicide as investigators say, or could it be that the government had him silenced to keep from speaking the truth? (Death of a Conspiracy Theorist) *** A girl finds out her family all her life had hidden the fact that she grew up in a haunted house. But the secret came out when she found the photos that were taken of the evidence ghosts left behind. (We Only Knew It As The Entity) *** In the early 1900s women simply weren't usually allowed to take part in murder investigations. But Mary E. Holland was no ordinary woman. And the case of Margaret Grippen was no ordinary murder. (A Famous Woman Detective and The Murder of Margaret Grippen) *** For your next move to a new home, do you want a little peace and quiet? Something a bit more secluded so you can get away from nosy neighbors? You might consider Garnet, Montana… population zero. It's scenery is beautiful, but nobody wants to live there – despite the government offering to pay people to do so. Why is that? (The Montana Town No One Wants To Live In) *** In Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, you're sure to find alligators, turtles, snakes, and other creepy critters. But legend has it, the swamp is home to something that is much more wild. We are loving season two of Jury Duty, Company Retreat, and we talk about how the show does an amazing job at casting their unsuspecting foils. Susie has an update on the anal bead scandal that rocked the chess world, and why it turns out the rumor has an unlikely origin. We celebrate the incredible Artemis II crew, and their incredible mission to space (and also how hot they all are). We discuss the Moriah Wilson documentary about the murder of the gravel cyclist by a jealous woman, and how we never get sick of analyzing the unhinged behavior of sociopaths. Scientists were able to watch a sperm whale birth, and made some shocking revelations about how it happens, why it's similar to humans, and why it was a mystery until now. We find out about a surprising trick to keeping seagulls away from your food that scholars recently discovered.00:00 - Kicking Off the Episode with Golden Girls Dreams04:39 - Unpacking the Genius Casting of Jury Duty's Company Retreat20:50 - Balancing Hormones with Veracity Cortisol Calming Supplement & Celebrating the Hot and Humble Artemis Il Crew27:50 - Analyzing Sociopathic Behavior in the Moriah Wilson Murder34:23 - Shocking Revelations from the First Observed Sperm Whale Birth43:23 - Squarespace: Your All-in-One Platform for Online Presence45:04 - Navigating Relationship Gaps with Disney Adults and Fandoms55:51 - The Surprising Trick to Keeping Seagulls Away from Food01:01:56 - Episode Recap and Effortless Style with Stitch FixBrain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:For up to 65% off your order, head to https://veracityhealth.co and use code BRAINCANDYThis episode is sponsored by Betterhelp. Our culture's growing addiction to fear comes into focus through a surprisingly relatable moment—one that exposes how far we'll go to avoid discomfort and uncertainty. Jase, Al, and Zach connect it to a much bigger issue: the way constant headlines and global tension keep people stuck in a cycle of anxiety and overreaction. The guys push back on that instinct by revisiting what Jesus actually said about wars and unrest, highlighting a message that's often misunderstood and misapplied. They point to a deeper perspective rooted in faith, clarity, and trust in God's bigger plan. The conversation ultimately reframes how believers should respond to fear—not by numbing it or giving in to it, but by stepping out of the cycle entirely and living with confidence grounded in truth. Americans must fight a war on two fronts: against MAGA fascism and Democratic Party complacency. Wajahat Ali of the Left Hook on Substack and author of Go Back to Where You Came From: And Other Helpful Recommendations on How to Become American joins Gaslit Nation to discuss how to actually build back better this time. Donald Trump is America's karma of white supremacy, greed, and misogyny. But while the MAGA virus burns through our institutions, another danger is the "Big Club" in Washington, D.C. where Republicans and Democrats share the same donors, the same golf clubs, and the same refusal to tax the rich. The DNC thinks they can waltz into power by not being Trump, but voters want a fighter and they want accountability. We are watching a righteous rage build across the globe, from the resistance in Ukraine and Hungary to vigilante violence here at home. When an Amazon worker drops dead and colleagues are told to work around the body, the status quo makes revolution by any means inevitable. Ukrainians are fighting a war on two fronts: homegrown corruption and Kremlin fascism. We must see ourselves in the same fight. If the Democrats choose the James Carville "possum strategy" and refuse to face reality, they are simply clearing the deck for a more competent autocrat in 2032. Today's episode of The Rizzuto Show is what happens when a comedy podcast accidentally stumbles into a full-blown sci-fi movie… except it's all real and somehow worse. We kick things off with a wild story involving St. Louis native and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman—who apparently had a Molotov cocktail thrown at his house AND was the target of a drive-by shooting just days later. Because nothing says “welcome to the future” like being hunted for inventing it. Naturally, we try to unpack what that means, while also realizing we'd last about 3 minutes in billionaire security life. Then we shift gears into something equally terrifying: Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building a hyper-realistic AI version of himself to interact with employees. Yes, a digital Zuckerberg… trained to think, talk, and move like the real one. So if you thought meetings couldn't get worse, imagine not even knowing if your boss is human. But the real star of today's comedy podcast episode? AI Jesus. That's right—a company is charging $1.99 per minute for you to video chat with a digital version of Jesus trained on the Bible. We debate everything: Is it helpful? Is it weird? Is it the most expensive prayer hotline ever created? And more importantly… why is AI Jesus kinda hot? From deep philosophical takes to absolute nonsense, this episode is the perfect mix of daily comedy, tech confusion, and the kind of conversations that make you question everything—including why you're laughing at it.It's messy. It's ridiculous. It's your favorite comedy podcast doing what it does best: turning the weirdest news into something even weirder.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.First Alert Weather Day this Afternoon Lasting OvernightWhat Does ‘You The Birthday' Mean? Rep. Eric Swalwell's sudden political death was no accident, but a strategic hit job by an unethical California Democratic Party and its media enablers. “Swalwell was pushed out for strategic purposes,” says investigative journalist Peter Schweizer. Call it the law of the jungle. On the Drill Down podcast, Schweizer and co-host Eric Eggers review the body count and identify which ethically challenged members will be next to go.
Comics don't just happen. Artists will them from nothing. As you'll hear from Henry Barajas and Rachel Merrill in this week's podcast, comics arrive at your local comic book shop through tremendous persistence and imagination. The next time you cross your shop's threshold, possibly to grab a copy of Barajas and Merrill's Death to Pachuco, out now in trade paperback from Image Comics, take a moment to thank the makers. Each book on the rack is a tiny miracle. In Death to Pachuco, Barajas and Merrill tap into history, detailing the 1943 Sleepy Lagoon Murder Trial and the Zoot Suit Riots. It's a Chicano noir, heavily inspired by classic Hollywood tales, but springing from a perspective frequently silenced or ignored. Their private eye, Ricardo “Ricky” Tellez, fancies himself a Sherlock Holmes type, complete with a nearly debilitating drug addiction. He's caught in the racial tensions boiling over during wartime Los Angeles, hunting for a killer, while navigating a femme fatale. This week on the podcast, we chat with Barajas and Merrill about balancing fact and fiction, style and reality, and why humanity frequently allows fear steer its actions. We discuss the magnificent amount of will and persistence it took to materialize Death to Pachuco and how it feels to see it collected in trade paperback, finally. In this episode, I chat with Fr. John Valadez—Orthodox priest and the man behind Death to the World—to talk about what it actually means to die to the world in a culture that's built to keep you comfortable, entertained, and constantly distracted. We get into why modern life makes it almost impossible to be still, why silence feels threatening to people, and how we've replaced transformation with validation without even realizing it. But the conversation really centers around what he's building right now— A retreat center. A real place. On real land. Set apart. A place where you step out of the noise, put the phone down, and actually have to face yourself… and God. We talk about why that kind of place is necessary right now, what happens to a person when the distractions are stripped away, and why most people have never actually experienced silence long enough for anything real to happen. It's about building something real in a world that isn't. And what it actually costs to live a serious spiritual life. Margo's Got Money Troubles is a novel that follows a young college student who starts a flirtation, and then affair, with a college professor who ends up getting her pregnant. Author Rufi Thorpe takes us through what happens next, as Margo decides to keep the baby and then joins OnlyFans in the earliest days of the site. The novel is now a TV show on AppleTV starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, and our friend at Death, Sex & Money, Nick Offerman, who plays Margo's father who's in recovery from opioid addiction after working as a professional wrestler. Rufi Thorpe joins Anna for a funny and personal conversation about how single motherhood and loving people in addiction recovery have both shaped her life. And the plot details about sex work? On today's show, Sean and Amanda bring back the Summer Movie Preview game—with some additional clarity around scoring—where they preview every major release slated across the summer and predict its box office and Metacritic score (4:47). Then, Sean is joined by Daniel Goldhaber to discuss his new film, ‘Faces of Death,' starring Barbie Ferreira. He didn't just kill himself… he made sure it worked. In this episode, a Grant, a funeral director's assasistant, shares one of the most disturbing and confusing calls of his life. A man everyone loved. A house that should have been filled with Christmas lights. And a suicide so extreme it didn't make sense. He slit both of his arms open. And then started his car.Just in case. But this story isn't just about how he died. It's about trying to understand why.Why someone who seemed happy would do something so violent. Why some suicides feel impulsive… and others feel calculated. And what goes through your mind when you're standing over the body of someone you actually knew. After years working in a funeral home, Grant has seen death in every form. But some scenes don't leave you. This is one of them. And what happened after the call might be even worse.A desperate lie.A moment of guilt. And the realization that sometimes the living don't handle death much better than the dead. This is a raw, unfiltered, true story from inside the funeral industry. Graphic, honest, and deeply human. ⚠️ Listener discretion advised. This episode contains graphic descriptions and discussions of suicide. $ - This episode was previously locked behind a paywall.

Who's to blame for the Death of Socrates? This week, The Alarmist (Rebecca Delgado Smith) decides who's to blame for the death of perhaps the most famous philosopher of all time, Socrates. With Athens in post-war political turmoil and a people with a strong deference to the will of the Gods, is it any wonder his “Gadfly Style” of questioning authority rubbed some Athenians the wrong way? Did The Oracle at Delphi proclaiming there was no wiser man than Socrates contribute to his eventual conviction? Or perhaps this was simply the will of the Gods! Alexi Lalas and David Mosse are back with a new episode of State of the Union! The show starts with the breaking news that U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Matt Crocker is leaving his current post to move to work with the Saudi Arabian football federation. Alexi and Mosse break down the implications of this as we rapidly approach the World Cup before moving on to U.S. Abroad where Flo Balogun and Ricardo Pepi found the back of the net for Monaco and PSV. Weston McKennie was suspended due to yellow card accumulation and Christian Pulisic's scoring drought reached 16 games for club and country. Next, Alexi and Mosse preview the midweek quarterfinals in both the Champions League where Real Madrid and Barcelona are looking for 2nd leg turnarounds and the CONCACAF Champions Cup where LAFC is the only MLS side to take a lead into the 2nd leg. The pair roundup the weekend action from MLS before getting into the most difficult groups in the coming World Cup in #AskAlexi. Finally, in One for the Road, Alexi discusses the Americanization of soccer and what is the American soccer identity. Is the Left well on its way to extinction? New fertility rate numbers in America just came out, and the results are staggering. If your weekly calendar looks like the loser in a state fair quilt competition - just solid blocks of mismatched colors with no room to breathe - this episode is for you. Today, we're joined by facilitation expert Evan Unger to talk about a topic that Kate and Kim geek out over: meetings. Specifically, why most of them are terrible, how they drain organizational productivity, and exactly what you can do to fix yours. We also tackle one of the most delicate situations in project management: how to handle the HIPPO (Highest Paid Person's Opinion) when they barge into your meeting and try to completely take over the flight controls. Grab a drink, settle in, and let's get into it.
Most of us would say that heaven is good and a place we'll be glad to make our eternal home. But often there's a gap between our beliefs and the emotions we experience in our bodies. Natural survival instincts sometimes make factors like the fear of death or letting go of control keep us from fully embracing the hopeful anticipation of heaven. Tune in for this episode of Soul Talks as Bill and Kristi help us take heart from Jesus, our older Brother who went before us to prepare a place in the Father's House. Your heart will long to find its home — both now and for all eternity — in the spacious refuge of acceptance, warmth, and delight alongside Jesus in God's place of residence. Today on New Movie Monday Griffey, Heath and Sam face an unexpected interpretation of a cursed artifact of the past - Faces of Death. Is it a remake? A Sequel? A copout? It's a fascinating film that attempts to reconcile the violent imagery inundating our everyday feeds with the spirit of the original film that everyone believed was a snuff film. We praise the performances by Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery and grapple over our expectations vs this new approach to a notorious title. A top prospect in next week's NFL Draft has reported ties in a fatal car crash two years ago. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
After a decade of terrible mainstream media fuelled lies, we land on an existential discussion about the importance of football, the futility of fandom and the repeated death of a title race that doesn't seem to really matter anymore anyway. Money, money, money, to win or break even? That is the question, and what is the answer? Is it 50 +1? Or is it £50 to rename Finn Park as Fun Park? To discuss this and more we have the unshaven but fully prepared Barry Murphy for a general ‘spiel' on the state of a goalkeeping nation with an unexpected sidetrack to an Indian Sibin. Come and join us for an episode that has more twists and turns than a James McClean walk through the forest. With thanks, as ever, to Rascals, Future Ticketing, Planify, O'Reillys, and Collar & Cuff for guiding us along the way.
With over 25 years of experience working with leadership teams, Patrick Lencioni has seen successful companies crumble; not because of strategy, but due to poor organizational health. Behind the success were team members who were afraid to open up, make mistakes, or disagree. In this episode, Patrick breaks down the five dysfunctions of a team and shows how embracing healthy conflict can foster trust, boost productivity, and improve decision-making. The 16-year-old stepbrother of Anna Kepner has officially been charged with first degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse after Kepner was found asphyxiated, under her bed on a Carnival cruise ship in November of last year. Her step-brother is being charged as an adult and prosecutors say he is “a danger to others” claiming he committed “the most serious, egregious and violative crimes one person can inflict upon another.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We did it! 1,000 episodes! Today we celebrate our achievement by talking about a scandal on Mt. Everest where we don't even know who the villain is. We find out what an everyday superpower is and we discuss what ours are. We learn about the woman who created the star categorization system that is still used. We hear why some people are getting exposed for their non-Christian attitudes through their treatment of a statue of Jesus. We discuss a man who flew 16,000 feet in the air using a lawn chair and some balloons. And we debate the virtues of the Irish Goodbye.00:00 - Celebrating 1000 Episodes of Brain Candy Podcast08:19 - Unpacking the Massive Mt. Fr. Mike recalls the death of Lazarus, and how Jesus not only allowed himself to be broken by the sorrow that breaks us but also how he took that hopelessness and brought forth life. He also explains how the covenants we've seen in the Old Testament are all leading to the eternal covenant that will be instituted through Christ on the Cross. Today's readings are John 10-12 and Proverbs 6:1-5. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear.
