Republicans and the Supreme Court have put basically no guardrails on Trump, so he started a global war that is costing taxpayers $1 billion a day. He shrugs about soldiers dying, and he lies about the school full of children that Americans likely killed. And he's downright giddy that because he signed off on all the bombing of Iran, he may get to choose the country's new leader. At the same time, one of the few occasions when Republicans stood up to him resulted in the firing of his first Cabinet member, the scandalous Kristi Noem. Plus, new job loss numbers show how Trump continues to hurt the working class, fuel prices are rising, the administration is again helping Russia in its war on Ukraine, Rand Paul may have an issue with Noem's chosen successor, and have the Dems' chances of retaking the Senate improved?Neera Tanden, with the Center for American Progress, joins Tim Miller for the weekend pod.show notes The Center for American Progress web site Catherine on Trump's warflation NPR on Neera's OMB nomination being pulled because of her tweets about GOP senators Follow "Bulwark Takes" for breaking news coverage over the weekend Tim's playlist Tickets for our LIVE show in Austin on March 19: TheBulwark.com/Events.

Jim Welsh, the strategist behind the Macro Tides and Weekly Technical Review newsletters, says that the market's underlying strength won't stop a short, fast decline of as much as 7%, but it will provide strong resistance to a full-blown correction or bear market. Welsh notes that people fear that the economy will be severely disrupted because they remember oil shocks creating recessions in the 1970s, but oil prices have much less ability "to tip the economy into recession now," so he thinks the impact of current events will be less than most investors fear. Welsh has been forecasting a secular bear market — a long reversal of fortune for the stock market — for a few years now, and he still sees one coming, but he doesn't think that starts until "the next recession" creates a situation that stalls growth and disrupts the market. Amid all of those market worries and concerns, Ryan MacDonald, portfolio manager for the Bluerock Private Real Estate Fund, says that private real estate is "uniquely boring, in a good way." MacDonald, who also serves as chief investment officer at Bluerock, says that three painful years of interest rate changes have driven values down to where they are attractive. "Entry point is the single biggest driver of future value for private real estate returns" and, on an inflation-adjusted basis, the market is now approaching valuation levels "not seen since the depths of the 2008 financial crisis." Jaime Seale discusses the 2026 home renovation trends survey from Clever Real Estate, which showed that half of all homeowners say their home is facing necessary repairs or renovations that they can't afford given current economic and personal conditions. Nearly six in 10 homeowners have nothing saved for emergency repairs , which is particularly alarming because 85 percent of homeowners spent money last year on an unplanned repair.
AWT's in‑person technical training is a keystone for developing competent water treaters. Yet classroom knowledge only matters when it survives the drive home and emerges later in the field. In this second conversation with Dan Merritt, CWT—National Sales Manager at CH2O Inc. and head of AWT's education committee—Trace Blackmore uncovers how stories, math, and memorable mistakes turn theory into intuition. Why training keeps evolving Dan explains that the Association of Water Technologies rewrites courses every year. Instructors refine content, delivery and demonstrations, not for novelty's sake, but because boilers and cooling towers rarely behave like textbook examples. Recognizing that multiple chemical reactions operate simultaneously helps prevent chasing the wrong problem. Updated program design and operations classes now bridge the gap between fundamentals and advanced topics. Specialized modules for sales, membrane/softener maintenance, ASSE 1280 compliance, and a two‑tier wastewater curriculum ensure that attendees can match coursework to their experience and role. Lessons from experience: paperwork, PPE and people Anecdotes ground the theory. Dan recounts losing his Certified Water Technologist status for five years after assuming an office manager filed his recertification paperwork. He re‑sat the exam in 2016 and now tells every candidate: verify your own paperwork. Another incident involved a sulfuric acid injection line that still held pressure; a line blew while he was replacing a fitting, covering his jeans in acid—his apron protected his torso, but he still had six‑inch holes in his pants. "Wear your PPE" is his first piece of advice to new technicians. Beyond safety, Dan highlights that water treatment careers demand communication and management skills. Technical strengths don't automatically translate into leadership; becoming a mentor and training others brings lasting fulfillment. Developing a growth mindset For new practitioners, Dan recommends learning from whoever will teach you and embracing the "nerdy" parts of the job—math, chemistry and calculations translate directly into customer value. After the first year it's easy to plateau, so he urges veterans to intentionally take on new technologies such as wastewater treatment or chlorine dioxide and to share knowledge with younger colleagues. This industry can't be automated or offshored; field troubleshooting will always require hands‑on expertise. Even in sales roles, success comes from offering solutions grounded in a deep technical foundation. Looking ahead The episode closes with a call to prepare for AWT's upcoming training seminars (March 10–13 and November 11–14). Attendees should bring system data and be ready to teach one takeaway to their teams when they return. Scaling Up! H2O encourages listeners to invest in their careers, meet peers and instructors, and approach each technical challenge as an opportunity to raise the bar for the entire industry. We all make mistakes, and that's how you learn." "I swore up and down that I would never be a salesman. In this episode of Investor Connect, Hall T. Martin welcomes Michelle Leeuwon, a leader in technology commercialization at the University of Houston working at the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, and ecosystem development. Michelle shares how UH treats commercialization as a translational process—"cultivating deals" by asking three key questions: what problem is solved, who feels the pain enough to pay, and what meaningful proof reduces risk. She explains how her team selects the right pathway (licensing vs. startup formation), aligns technology with market needs, and helps founders narrow use cases, set realistic development and funding timelines, and define clear team roles. The conversation also covers proof-of-concept (gap) funding to build prototypes, validate applications, support scale-up, and drive customer discovery, along with an IP strategy focused on protecting "relevant novelty" to enable licensable, investable deals. Michelle discusses early engagement with industry and investors for feedback, best practices for pairing inventors with experienced operators through UH's Innovate accelerator, metrics centered on risk reduction, and closes with her contact details for licensing and startup opportunities. When To Close the Round Early Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. In raising funding, the founder sets a target. Oftentimes, the target is a rather large number. It's best to break the larger raise into smaller rounds. This lets you run a series of smaller campaigns inside the larger fundraise. One of the benefits of breaking the raise into smaller rounds is that it gives the founder more control over the campaign. If one of the rounds is not going well, then the founder can choose to close it early. Instead of raising $1M, the founder could decide to close at $750K and move the remaining $250K to the next round. The funds will ultimately be raised, but the founder does have a choice of raising them now or raising them later. If one of the rounds is going very well, then the founder can choose to oversubscribe and extend it. This means taking some of the raise in the following round and drawing it into an earlier one. Consider how your fundraise is going and if you should close early or oversubscribe. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _________________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: http://investorconnect.org Check out our other podcasts here: https://investorconnect.org/ For Investors check out: https://tencapital.group/investor-landing/ For Startups check out: https://tencapital.group/company-landing/ For eGuides check out: https://tencapital.group/education/ For upcoming Events, check out https://tencapital.group/events/ For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please follow, share, and leave a review. K T Penn is associated with discussions surrounding Loose Change 9/11, a documentary project that questioned the official narrative of the September 11 attacks. The film became widely circulated on the internet in the mid-2000s and presented a series of alternative claims about the events of that day, examining issues such as the collapse of the World Trade Center, government response timelines, and alleged inconsistencies in official reports. While the documentary attracted significant attention and debate online, many of its claims have been challenged or refuted by engineers, investigators, and multiple official inquiries. The film nevertheless remains part of the broader public discourse about how major events are interpreted and debated in the digital age.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. In today's entrepreneurial world, there is no shortage of conferences, summits, masterminds, and learning forums. But here's the real question: How do you know which ones are actually worth your time, energy, and money? In this episode, Shannon sits down with Dora Rankin to talk about discernment in business spaces - especially in a post-COVID world where the coaching and event industry has exploded with noise, hype, and inflated promises. They dive into: Why entrepreneurs are more discerning than ever The rise of "smoke and mirrors" marketing How to vet event hosts and speakers properly What to look for beyond viral posts and flashy branding Why collaboration over competition is the future How to choose rooms that stretch you without compromising your values The importance of structured sales systems alongside marketing If you've ever invested in a room that felt fluffy, performative, or misaligned — this episode will help you make smarter decisions moving forward. Key Takeaways Not all entrepreneurial events are built on substance — discernment matters. Post-COVID attendees expect measurable ROI, not hype. Viral marketing does not equal proven expertise. Testimonials, references, and tangible results matter more than aesthetics. Alignment with leadership style and values is critical. Growth rooms should challenge you — not manipulate you. Collaboration expands credibility and industry standards. Structured sales systems are as important as marketing strategies. About Dora: Dora Rankin is a powerhouse business coach, sales strategist, and author of USA Today bestselling book, The Heart Sell, dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and unlock their highest earning potential. Kids ministry has never been just about filling a room or filling time. It's about building disciples—starting with the youngest hearts in our churches and extending outward to families and communities. In this conversation, Steve Hampel brings decades of wisdom from serving faithfully in kids ministry. What I appreciate most about Steve is his steady conviction that healthy ministry begins with healthy leadership. Programs matter. Events matter. Resources matter. But leaders matter most.Steve shares how intentional leadership development has shaped his ministry philosophy. Rather than focusing solely on recruiting volunteers to meet immediate needs, he challenges us to invest in people for the long haul—raising up leaders who can shepherd kids, partner with parents, and strengthen the local church. We also talk about the strategic role of events. When done thoughtfully, events aren't just calendar fillers. They can be powerful entry points for families who may never walk through the doors otherwise. From seasonal outreaches to creative community initiatives, Steve reminds us that excellence and intentionality open doors for gospel conversations.Another key theme in our discussion is stewardship. We live in a time when ministry resources are abundant—curriculum, digital tools, media, and creative assets. The challenge is not access, but alignment. Steve encourages leaders to use resources wisely and purposefully, always asking: Does this support our mission? Does this help us disciple kids and equip families? One of the most encouraging parts of this conversation is hearing Steve reflect on serving alongside his wife. Ministry is not meant to be isolated. The partnership, prayer, and shared calling in their home have strengthened both their family and their ministry. It's a reminder that our first ministry is often right under our own roof. Finally, we explore the impact of media in today's ministry landscape. While digital tools have transformed how we communicate and connect, Steve emphasizes that relationships remain at the center. Technology can amplify the message—but it can never replace presence. Community engagement still happens through conversations, trust, and showing up consistently. If you serve in kids ministry, lead volunteers, or care deeply about reaching the next generation, this episode will encourage you to think strategically, lead intentionally, and serve faithfully.Because when we build leaders, partner with families, and engage our communities, we are not just running a ministry—we are shaping the future of the church.Connect with Lifeway Kids Leave us a voice message here with any questions or feedback!

Kevin Wolf, CEO and Co-founder of Wind Harvest, has been working to make this vision a reality. His team has developed vertical axis wind turbines that harvest turbulent winds near the ground, a resource previously considered unusable. The idea isn't new; vertical axis turbines have been attempted for decades but failed to overcome engineering challenges. “The turbulent wind has stopped all other technologies from being able to make use of it,” Kevin explained. “It took a long time, a lot of money, and a lot of prototyping of full-scale prototypes…to finally have this product ready for the market.”The key innovation is a patented hinge system that solves a critical weakness of vertical axis turbines—mechanical stress on the blades. “Vertical axis turbines have failed for decades,” Kevin said. “The problem is they rotate 15 million times a year…every rotation, there's a pull with a blade like an airplane wing and a push as it comes around the other side. That connection point breaks…[but] if you put a hinge, all that micro movement is taken up in the hinge.”The potential impact of Wind Harvest's turbines is enormous. By placing them on existing wind farms, they can double the energy output per acre in ideal locations without requiring new infrastructure or land. “We can double the wind farm energy output with our turbines,” Kevin emphasized. He noted that this approach also avoids the costs and environmental impacts of developing new wind farms. “It's a much faster way of developing new wind farms…as opposed to taking raw land, new habitat, and converting that into a wind farm.”Wind Harvest is raising capital through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine. This effort allows small investors to support clean energy innovation. Kevin explained the unique challenge of funding such groundbreaking work: “There is a lot of doubt at the level of the venture capitalists…they want us to finish the third-party certification.” In the meantime, crowdfunding has allowed Wind Harvest to bridge the gap and move closer to commercialization. You can find more about their campaign on StartEngine (Top 15 in amount raised on StartEngine.) and be part of an investment opportunity to drive clean energy forward.tl;dr:Kevin Wolf's vertical axis wind turbines harvest turbulent winds near the ground, doubling wind farm efficiency.Wind Harvest's patented hinge system solves a key flaw in traditional vertical axis turbines.Deploying these turbines on existing wind farms reduces costs, accelerates permitting, and avoids new land use.Kevin attributes his success to persistence, flexibility, and consensus-building skills honed over decades.Wind Harvest is raising capital via crowdfunding to finalize certification and commercialize their turbines. How to Develop Persistence and Flexibility As a SuperpowerKevin attributes his success to persistence and flexibility. “I do not like to not have something succeed,” he shared, adding, “I've learned over time that big things take a long time to do.” His training as a river guide and evolutionary ecologist shaped his ability to adapt. “You learn to take new data, change your mind, adjust your hypothesis,” he explained. By pairing this adaptability with relentless persistence, Kevin has overcome significant obstacles in his career.Kevin shared a story from his days at Wolfen Associates, where he helped the city of Sausalito reach consensus on a fire department expansion. After the city's initial proposal failed, Kevin facilitated community meetings, allowing dissenting voices to be heard and their concerns addressed. By incorporating feedback and revising the proposal, the city council gained overwhelming public support in a re-vote. This experience highlights Kevin's ability to persist through challenges while remaining flexible to new perspectives.Tips for Developing the Superpower:Embrace persistence by committing to long-term goals, even when progress feels slow.Stay flexible by adapting to new data and revising plans when necessary.Practice active listening to fully understand others' perspectives.Help others clarify their thoughts by rephrasing and restating their concerns.By following Kevin's example and advice, you can make persistence and flexibility a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Invest in Wicked-Fast Coffee!Guest ProfileKevin Wolf (he/him):CEO and Co-founder, Wind Harvest InternationalAbout Wind Harvest International: Wind Harvest is a U.S.-based renewable energy technology company developing and selling industrial-scale vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) systems designed for deployment in turbulent wind resources close to the ground. ts patented Wind Harvester technology is engineered to operate efficiently in a wide range of wind conditions, with a compact footprint, low profile, and highly durable design. Avoid These Sins as a Startup Investor Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Startup investors should act as role models for startup founders. Startup founders are often new to the startup world and so look to others with experience for how best to play the game. Avoid these sins as a startup investor. Not being genuine. Investors want startups to tell it straight, so investors should do the same for startups. If the answer is no, then tell the founder as soon as possible. Lack of honesty. Investors don't like it when founders fudge the numbers. Investors should return the favor and not overpromise or underdeliver to the founder. Lack of transparency. Investors don't like it when founders hold back key information about the company. Investors should not hold back on their concerns about the startup and their chance of success. Lack of depth. Investors want founders to go deep on their space, in particular their market and its customers. Investors should return the favor and go deep into the analysis of the startups' chosen market and the chance of the startups' success. Lack of humanity. Investors need to remember that founders are people too, and investing is more than just numbers. It's about relationships. Avoid these sins as a startup investor. The facts on the ground and the ludicrous statements speak for themselves: The administration inadequately planned for the execution of this war.
