Avoirs russes gelés: l'Union européenne à la veille d'une crise?

    Aujourd'hui l'économie

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 16, 2025 2:50

“The simple believe everything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” — Proverbs 14:15In an age where scams are becoming more sophisticated by the day, Scripture reminds us that discernment isn't optional—it's essential. As believers, protecting the resources God has entrusted to us is more than a practical concern—it's an act of stewardship. Here's how you can guard your finances with wisdom, not fear.Scams Are Everywhere—But So Is WisdomFraudsters use every channel available: phone calls, text messages, emails, and even impersonations of people you trust. But as followers of Christ, we're not called to panic. We're called to walk in wisdom (Ephesians 5:15). That begins with slowing down and thinking critically.Pause before you respond. Scammers rely on urgency. If someone pressures you to act immediately—whether claiming your account is locked or your money is at risk—take a step back. Hang up. Verify the source independently. Urgency is often a red flag. Avoid untraceable payments. No legitimate organization will ask for payment via wire transfer or gift cards. These are the preferred tools of scammers because they're nearly impossible to recover.Practical Steps for Digital ProtectionFinancial stewardship now includes digital awareness. Here are practical ways to protect yourself and your family:Use credit cards, not debit cards, for online purchases. Credit cards usually come with stronger fraud protection. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all your financial accounts. Even if a scammer gets your password, they can't access your account without a second form of verification. Don't reuse passwords. Use a secure password manager, such as Bitwarden or NordPass, to create and store strong, unique passwords. Set up account alerts. Most banks allow you to monitor activity in real-time, giving you a heads-up if something unusual occurs. Freeze your credit. It's free to do and offers one of the best defenses against identity theft. You can always unfreeze it temporarily when needed. Avoid public Wi-Fi for financial transactions. Wait until you're on a secure network or at home to check your bank accounts or make purchases. Limit what you share on social media. Personal details, such as birthdays or family names, can be used to guess passwords or security questions. Adjust your privacy settings and post wisely. Shred sensitive documents before discarding them. Even in the digital age, identity thieves still dig through trash. Don't click on unfamiliar links, even if they appear to come from someone you know. When in doubt, contact the person or organization directly for clarification.Stewarding Wisdom in CommunityScammers often target the vulnerable, particularly older adults and teenagers. So make this a shared effort. Discuss online fraud with your family. Equip them with knowledge. If you receive a letter or email about identity protection following a data breach, verify it by contacting the company directly, rather than through the provided link or number.Financial faithfulness today includes digital vigilance. But there's no need for fear. By taking these simple steps, you can walk confidently, knowing you're stewarding God's resources with care.A Tool for Wise Stewardship: The FaithFi AppLooking for a practical way to manage your money with wisdom and peace of mind? Ep 68: We Grew Our Net Worth by $310K in Q2: Here's How and the System We Used

    Money On My Mind

We just had our biggest financial leap ever, a $310,000 increase in our net worth in just one quarter. In this episode, I take you behind the curtain to reveal exactly how we did it. But this isn't just about our win—it's a blueprint for how you can do it too. I'm sharing the exact system we use (and teach inside Budget Dog Academy) that's changing lives and stacking net worth gains for hundreds of our students.   I'll show you how simple financial tools—like a balance sheet, budget, and roadmap—when automated and aligned with your values, can completely transform your financial life. Whether you're in debt, overwhelmed, or just looking for next-level results, this is your episode.   Timeline Summary: [0:00] – Introduction [0:41] – Our $310K Q2 net worth increase and why this framework is different [3:07] – Real-life student success stories and their massive net worth jumps [4:59] – Core drivers behind our growth: cash flow optimization, investing, and business valuations [5:26] – The 5-document system: balance sheet, budget, amortization schedule, roadmap, and cash flow goal worksheet [10:01] – How tracking quarterly net worth can change your mindset [13:01] – Why automation beats emotion when managing your finances [20:05] – Turning your goals into monthly cash flow targets [23:36] – The 3 pillars of financial fitness: education, automation, and community [27:39] – The myth of “more income equals clarity”—what really solves financial anxiety [29:34] – My personal “why” and how financial freedom saved our family   5 Key Takeaways:   Automation is key. Your system should run itself with minimal input—30 minutes a month is all it takes. Clarity trumps income. You don't need more money—you need a better plan for the money you already have. Track it or lose it. A quarterly balance sheet is like stepping on the financial scale—you can't improve what you don't measure. Your roadmap should reflect your values. Build a system that funds your goals, not someone else's idea of success. Community and education drive momentum. Surrounding yourself with the right tools and people accelerates your financial journey.   Quotables: “More income is speed—not clarity. If you're leaking at $60K, you'll be leaking at $600K.”   “If you can't commit to 30 minutes a month, you're not ready to win financially.”   “Automation eliminates the human limitations holding you back from wealth.”   “Net worth is the scoreboard, but freedom is the real win.”   “I don't just build systems—I build legacies.”   Links & Resources:   https://bookwithbudgetdog.com/ped   If this episode gave you clarity or motivation, share it with someone who needs to hear it. Public resistance to new policies often leaves policymakers scratching their heads. What seems a perfectly reasonable policy to a government is often perceived by its citizenry as regressive. Stefanie Stantcheva's multidisciplinary approach to research digs deep into the minds of people at the receiving end to help design better policies. Stantcheva is a professor of economics at Harvard University, and this year's recipient of the prestigious Clark Medal, awarded by the American Economic Association for the most significant contributions to economic thought by an economist under 40. She sat down with journalist Rhoda Metcalfe to discuss how tax policy impacts innovation for the IMF series on extraordinary Women in Economics. Transcript: https://bit.ly/453h1ku

This dual doc couple has a very impressive milestone today. They have saved $100,000 towards retirement during residency. They wanted to give themselves more compounding interest time and not wait until they were attendings. This doc also shared about their student loan journey. They met with Andrew at StudentLoanAdvice.com and got a plan in place early. They decided that they did not want to go for PSLF so before they started residency they refinanced their loans. They took a risk to refinance when their loans were at 0% but they locked in sub 3% and are now feeling very good about their decision. Then, for Finance 101 we are talking about plan documents for employer provided retirement accounts. Nick is the chief operating officer of Ritholtz Wealth Management and founder of the financial blog Of Dollars and Data. His new book, The Wealth Ladder, comes out next week.  Nick kicks off the show by discussing The Wealth Ladder, including the six different levels of wealth and why income is a more crucial factor to building wealth than behavior. He also talks about jobs that will be a safe haven once artificial intelligence ("AI") becomes more prevalent, the mistakes people make when buying income-producing assets, the importance of diversification, and why he prefers to invest in index funds. (0:40) Next, Nick goes in depth on the spending mistakes people make that prevent them from moving up to a higher wealth level. He touches on diversification again, using Elon Musk versus Bill Gates as an example. Plus, he covers the different strategies for different wealth levels, why it's important to still focus on the nonfinancial things in life, statistical data for whether money can buy happiness, and the significance of money being a quantifiable thing. (17:27) Finally, Nick discusses the things that financially successful people may be overlooking, why the strategy for success may vary on a case-by-case basis, and the different levels of spending freedom. He says that level two allows freedom in the grocery store, level three allows freedom at restaurants, and level four allows freedom for traveling. And he shares a handy formula for people to use when it comes to nonessential spending. (35:15)

“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord's people.” - 1 Corinthians 14:33We're continuing our series on temperaments—how our God-given wiring shapes the way we communicate, relate to others, and make financial decisions. Kathleen Edelman is back with us, joined by Andrew Stanley, as we take a closer look at the Blue temperament and its influence on our approach to money.Kathleen Edelman is the author of I Said This, You Heard That: How Your Wiring Colors Your Communication. She is certified in Biblical Studies and Christian Counseling Psychology and has spent over 30 years coaching clients in the art of effective communication.Andrew Stanley is a nationally touring stand-up comedian who's been performing across the country since 2016. You can learn more at AndrewStanleyComedy.com. In this episode, he also joins us as our representative for the Blue Temperament. The Four Temperaments in a NutshellBefore diving into blue specifically, Kathleen offers a quick primer on all four temperaments:Yellow (Sanguine) – Extroverted and people-oriented, they speak the language of fun and relationships.Red (Choleric) – Task-oriented extroverts who value power and control.Blue (Melancholic) – Introverted and task-focused, they speak the language of perfection and order.Green (Phlegmatic) – Introverted but people-oriented, seeking peace and harmony. Each temperament influences not just relationships, but also how people handle money, make decisions, and respond under pressure.Blues and the Search for SafetyFor those with a blue temperament, safety isn't just a preference—it's a core emotional need. Blues thrive in environments where things are predictable, orderly, and well-organized. They naturally seek clarity, structure, and control to feel secure. When it comes to money, this often means creating detailed budgets, developing long-term plans, and being cautious when making financial decisions without having all the necessary information. Blues may prefer to save rather than spend, not because they're stingy, but because a growing bank account feels like a safety net against life's uncertainties. They can struggle with risk and may delay action if they feel unsure, even if the opportunity is wise or time-sensitive.In relationships, this drive for safety shows up in how blues communicate and connect with others. They crave understanding and support but may not always express those needs clearly. Because they process deeply and thoroughly, they often require space and time before responding, especially in moments of conflict or when making big decisions. If rushed or misunderstood, they may withdraw, using silence as a way to regain control or avoid making a mistake. However, when their need for emotional safety is honored through patience, empathy, and clear communication, they can be deeply loyal, thoughtful, and intentional partners. Understanding this temperament helps others engage them with compassion and build stronger, more harmonious relationships.Advice for and About BluesIf you have a blue temperament, give yourself permission to take the time you need to process decisions, especially those involving finances. Your thoughtful, analytical nature is a gift, but it can also lead to overthinking or decision paralysis. Don't let the desire for perfection keep you from making progress. Instead, set realistic deadlines, seek wise counsel, and remember that not every choice has to be airtight before it's made. Lean into your strengths—planning, order, and foresight—while also allowing space for joy, spontaneity, and relational connection. A budget isn't just a safety tool; it can also be a pathway to shared experiences and generous living. For those in a relationship with a blue—whether in marriage, friendship, or at work—understand that their quiet moments are rarely a sign of apathy. Blues often feel deeply but express slowly. They value being understood and respected, especially when making important decisions. Don't rush them. Instead, provide information clearly and give them time to reflect. Be patient if they seem hesitant or cautious. Underneath that careful exterior is someone who longs for peace, harmony, and purpose. When you honor their need for safety and support, you'll discover a loyal, wise, and dependable partner who brings depth and stability to any relationship. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:My wife and I are carrying about $8,500 in credit card debt, plus a car loan. Jim has led ESG efforts at Eli Lilly since September 2020. In this capacity, he oversees implementation of Lilly ESG strategy, has responsibility for coordinating ESG-related communications, and organizing and leading ESG stakeholder interactions.  In a significant advancement of Lilly's approach, Jim led the development of Lilly's ESG portal, a comprehensive source for ESG strategy, goals and results.  Jim also chairs the ESG Governance Committee at Lilly, which is a central body for development and execution of ESG priorities and communication to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Prior to his current role, Jim spent two years as a loaned executive to Elanco Animal Health, which was spun out of Lilly in an IPO in 2018.  Jim served as the Vice President of Investor Relations at Elanco.  He was responsible for leading all interactions with Sell-Side Analysts and Buy-Side Investors, including preparation of Earnings materials, participation in Investor Conferences, Non Deal Roadshows and investor visits to Elanco Headquarters.  He conducted investor outreach and targeting to build understanding of the Elanco investment thesis.  He worked closely with External Communications to provide consistent external dialogue and to prepare Elanco Senior Executives on key topics and messaging on relevant issues.  In 2020, Jim was ranked the number one IR leader for mid-cap pharmaceuticals by Institutional Investor. Prior to the role at Elanco, Jim spent 18 years at Lilly, holding numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including an assignment in Corporate Business Development, managing Lilly's Venture Capital portfolio.  Jim has also served as the Chief Financial Officer of Lilly Canada, Senior Director of Finance for Lilly Research Laboratories, Manager of Investor Relations, Manager of Treasury Planning and Strategy, Senior Human Resources Representative and Senior Financial Analyst. Prior to joining Lilly, Mr. Greffet was a Consulting Manager for KPMG Consulting in Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri. Jim Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: Eli Lilly's Approach to ESG Lilly's 30 by 30 initiative to improve healthcare for 30 million people by 2030 Progress toward goals and targets without the use of carbon offsets Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Jim's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers?  Two words. Be pragmatic. This was a theme that came up in our conversation. There's the lunatic fringe on everything, and certainly in this space, on both ends of the spectrum. Tie your sustainability work to the purpose of your organization, be pragmatic, think in common sense terms, and you'll make a whole lot more progress.  What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability?  In the short four and a half years, this world has changed a lot. I think when I first came into it, it was sporadic, voluntary reporting by organizations, maybe a little bit of ‘accentuate the positive.' It evolved into more rigorous and disciplined financial reporting. Over the last 18 months or so, I think we've seen the heavy hand of regulation start to come about, especially in Europe, which creates a lot more overhead. I think all of us would rather deploy our energy and resources to doing things than reporting about them. So to the exciting part, I now think we're starting to see a little bit more sensibility prevail in some of these regulations, maybe lifting the heavy hand of regulation a little bit so that we can have consistent, rigorous, well constructed reporting that's doable and doesn't take us away from the mission that we have in front of us. I'm optimistic and excited that we're going to land in a spot that's doing the right thing for the right reasons, consuming the right amount of energy.  What is one book you'd recommend sustainability professionals read?  George Seraphim, Purpose + Profit. He's a Harvard Business professor and he taught, you can see from the name of that book, Purpose plus Profit. It takes this pragmatic view of why sustainability can help you run your business better, not just be a fringe idea that's detached from what the business is supposed to do.  What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work?  I'll give one shout out. Brian Matt with the New York Stock Exchange puts out an email each Friday called the ESG Top five. It's the top five sustainability topics of the week. He commits that it's a two minute read. If you get interested, it's going to be more than a two minute read, but you can certainly get the headlines in two minutes. There's certain emails that I can't delete fast enough. That's one that I open every time and I always learn something out of it.  Where can our listeners go to learn more about you and the work being done at Eli Lilly?  Sustainability.lilly.com. My performance is tied to website hits, so all your listeners, please open it up first thing when you get in the morning and hit refresh many times during the day. You'll do me a solid on my performance. Then LinkedIn, I have a LinkedIn page as well that captures some of the stuff we're doing here.
