In this May 30 edition of The Daily Herold, Jon Herold returns with a packed rundown of legal wins, narrative collapses, and institutional chaos. He opens with the Supreme Court's quiet but crucial move to uphold Trump-era border policy rollbacks, suspending Biden's CHNV parole program for over 500,000 immigrants, a major blow to open-border advocates. From there, Jon tackles the bizarre viral hit piece targeting Glenn Greenwald, a chilling look at AI-driven political blackmail. He also breaks down a DIA espionage bust, DOJ entrapment tactics, and former General Keith Kellogg's narrative redemption arc in the evolving Russia-Ukraine saga. Ghost joins the show to weigh in on the re-raising of the American flag in Damascus, peace deal prospects in Israel-Gaza, and the curious history of the World Jewish Congress. Jon then dives into Mark Zuckerberg's Meta partnering with military contractor Anduril to create autonomous AI battlefield tech, fueling Armageddon concerns. Additional highlights include Marco Rubio's proposed purge of hundreds of bloated State Department offices, a federal court greenlighting Trump tariffs, and a meltdown montage featuring Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, and liberal TikTokers who just can't cope. From geopolitical realignment to petty political scandal, this episode delivers sharp commentary with Herold's signature edge.

At the end of last month Germany's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the site of the Holocaust museum that is being built in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, a city that was home to a thriving and important Jewish community numbering in the tens of thousands before World War II. The museum has been years in the making, and, as The Guardian reported recently, is set to open in 2026. Leon Saltiel joins Thanos Davelis to break down what this means for the Jewish community of the city and of Greece, why it has taken so long, and what role this museum can play in combating worrying trends across Europe of anti-semitism, Holocaust denial, and the rise of the far-right.Leon Saltiel is a historian from Thessaloniki and author of the award winning book The Holocaust in Thessaloniki. This led to a settlement where NYU revised its policies to include antisemitism as a form of discrimination. President Trump honored Adela and later signed the Executive Order Against Antisemitism, expanding the definition of Judaism thereby under Title VI protections. Cojab has also contributed to the World Jewish Congress's 80th anniversary book with a chapter titled "Confronting Terror: The Buenos Aires Bombings." This Day in Legal History: Gandhi's First Act of Civil DisobedienceOn June 7, 1893, Mohandas Gandhi committed his first act of civil disobedience in South Africa, an event that would shape his future activism and the global struggle for civil rights. Gandhi, holding a first-class ticket, was ordered to move to the third-class section of a train because he was Indian. Refusing to comply, he was forcibly removed from the train at Pietermaritzburg. This incident ignited Gandhi's resolve to combat racial discrimination and injustice. In response to this humiliation, Gandhi began organizing the Indian community in South Africa, leading to the founding of the Natal Indian Congress in 1894. This organization aimed to unite Indians and fight against discriminatory laws. Gandhi's efforts in South Africa laid the groundwork for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance, known as Satyagraha. After gaining experience and recognition in South Africa, Gandhi returned to India in 1915. There, he became a pivotal leader in the struggle for independence from British colonial rule. Through nonviolent protests, boycotts, and civil disobedience, Gandhi mobilized millions of Indians and brought international attention to their cause.Gandhi's first act of defiance on that South African train was more than just a personal stand; it was the beginning of a movement that would inspire civil rights leaders worldwide, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. This day marks a significant moment in legal history, highlighting the power of peaceful protest and the enduring fight for equality and justice. The US Supreme Court's recent decision has significant implications for estate planning, particularly for family businesses. The ruling mandated that the value of Crown C Supply Co., a family-owned business, must include the life insurance payout received after co-owner Michael Connelly's death. This decision was a setback for Thomas Connelly, the estate executor, who argued against including the payout in the company's valuation. The unanimous ruling, authored by Justice Clarence Thomas, emphasizes that businesses using life insurance proceeds for shareholder buyouts must account for these proceeds in their valuations or explore alternative strategies. These alternatives include cross-purchase agreements, where individual shareholders, rather than the company, hold the life insurance policies, or placing the policies in a trust. This ruling could particularly affect small business owners who might not afford extensive legal advice, potentially pushing their estates above the exemption threshold and incurring higher taxes. Estate planners now need to reassess buy-sell agreements and consider more tax-efficient arrangements. Despite the clarified tax risks, not all businesses will shift from the contested buy-sell agreements, as factors beyond tax implications often influence business decisions. The case, Connelly v. United States, highlights the need for thorough estate planning to navigate tax liabilities effectively.High Court Estate Tax Ruling Forces Succession Planning RevampsNetflix shareholders voted down a proposal to increase transparency on the company's use of artificial intelligence (AI) at its annual meeting. The proposal, presented by the AFL-CIO Equity Index Funds, requested a report detailing Netflix's AI policies and ethical guidelines. Concerns highlighted included potential hiring discrimination, mass layoffs, and facility closures, arguing that ethical AI guidelines could prevent labor issues and lawsuits. This follows last summer's Hollywood strikes, partly driven by fears that AI could undermine writers and actors. Similar AI-related proposals have been presented to other tech companies like Meta and Microsoft but have not passed. In February, a proposal at Apple received notable support, with 37.5% of investors in favor.Netflix, in its proxy statement, described AI as a tool to enhance creativity and efficiency, not to replace human work. The company also mentioned existing collective bargaining agreements with unions that address AI use. Netflix argued that the requested report could reveal sensitive information and harm its competitive position.Netflix Investors Reject Bid on AI Discrimination, Layoff RisksU.S. Circuit Judge Ryan Nelson of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recused himself from a case involving Palestinian rights activists who seek to block the Biden administration's military support of Israel. The recusal follows his participation in a trip to Israel with other judges after the October 7 Hamas attack. Although Nelson believed his impartiality wouldn't reasonably be questioned, he stepped down out of caution. The plaintiffs argued that the trip, organized by the World Jewish Congress, aimed to influence judicial perspectives on Israeli actions, central to the case. Judge Consuelo Callahan replaced Nelson for the hearing. The case, Defense for Children International-Palestine v. Biden, challenges U.S. support for Israel's military actions in Gaza.US judge recuses himself from Gaza case after trip to Israel | ReutersA Texas public library must return eight controversial books, covering LGBTQ+, sex education, and racism topics, to circulation after a divided ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court found that removing books based on content objections violated the First Amendment rights of library patrons. The ruling largely upheld a 2023 preliminary injunction by U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman. In dissent, Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan criticized the decision, arguing that it improperly involved federal judges in library decisions. The case, initiated by Leila Green Little and others, challenges the Llano County Library System's removal of books like "Caste" by Isabel Wilkerson and "Being Jazz" by Jazz Jennings. The ruling reflects a broader trend of legal challenges against library book bans, with similar cases arising in Iowa, Texas, and Arkansas. The American Library Association and PEN America report a significant increase in book challenges and bans, particularly those involving marginalized communities.Texas Library Must Reshelve Controversial Books, 5th Cir. SaysThis week's closing theme is by Paul Dukas, who passed away on this day in 1935.Paul Dukas was a notable French composer, critic, and teacher who left an indelible mark on the world of classical music. Born in Paris in 1865, Dukas was a contemporary of Debussy and shared the same innovative spirit that defined French music at the turn of the century. Although his output was relatively small, his meticulous approach ensured that each work he published was of the highest quality. Dukas is best remembered for his orchestral masterpiece, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (L'Apprenti sorcier), composed in 1897.Inspired by Goethe's poem of the same name, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" vividly depicts the tale of a young apprentice who, in his master's absence, uses magic to animate a broom to do his chores, only to lose control of the spell. Dukas's composition brilliantly captures the whimsical and chaotic nature of the story through its lively orchestration and dynamic contrasts. The piece's enchanting melodies and dramatic crescendos have made it a favorite in concert halls and have cemented its place in popular culture, especially after being featured in Disney's "Fantasia" in 1940.Dukas's ability to blend narrative with musical innovation showcases his exceptional talent and ensures that "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" remains a timeless piece, beloved by audiences of all ages. As we reflect on Dukas's contributions, we celebrate his genius and the magical world he brought to life through music.Without further ado, Paul Dukas' “L'Apprenti sorcier,”or “The Sorcerer's Apprentice,” enjoy. 18 things worth remembering about Brian Mulroney's support for Canadian Jews and Israel

Brian Mulroney didn't meet a Jew until he left his home in Quebec to go to boarding school. Yet despite this, the Canadian prime minister, who died on Feb. 29, made fighting antisemitism and supporting Jews—and Israel—priorities during his lengthy political career. Mulroney, 84, died after a fall in the bathroom of his home in Palm Beach, Florida, friends say. He had recently been treated for prostate cancer. Mulroney served as prime minister for nine years, from 1984 to 1993. He resigned due to growing separatist sentiments in Quebec, a recession and record-low popular support. However, Jewish leaders and experts say Mulroney's support for Jews in and out of office was remarkable. His dedication included hiring a succession of Jewish political advisors to be his chiefs of staff; appointing Norman Spector as the first Jewish ambassador to represent Canada in Israel; establishing a public inquiry to investigate how Nazi war criminals were allowed into Canada after the Holocaust; and welcoming Chaim Herzog, then the president of Israel, as the first leader of the Jewish State to address Parliament, in 1989. On today's edition of The CJN Daily, we explore why Canada's 18th prime minister felt moved to fight what he called “a noxious social cancer” of antisemitism, even to his last days. “I thought that it was proper to commit injustice, so long as I would be the only one to suffer. But nothing can justify injustice.”  -Ayn Rand   Professor Gad Saad has painted a picture of the average anti-semite in America:  He's a white hick from the South!  Yes, this is what he and people like him really believe.  It's one of the last forms of acceptable, high-society bigotry left.  Of course, polling shows that white protestant middle-of-nowhere types actually hold Jews in high esteem, which, as you might realize reading the Saad Tweet, is not reciprocated.   The World Jewish Congress has published an ad against tearing down pictures of abducted Israeli children.  Who's tearing them down in the ad?  That's right, beautiful blonde coeds.  Just like has never happened once.   I don't find this sort of thing funny anymore.  I don't laugh at it, even in mockery.  This is evil.     On a related note, it turns out that the trans Nashville Christian school shooter hated white privileged kids for going to fancy private schools.  The so-called tranifesto has leaked to that effect.   Me and my kids are the last group you're allowed to hate.  "Abolish Whiteness."  I'm not playing along for one more second.   "We are often told it's foolish to bite the hand that feeds you. I say it's just as foolish to feed the hand that bites you."  Marji Ross

The year is 1945 and playrwight Ben Brown takes us to the estate near Berlin, where Heinrich Himmler, architect of the Holocaust, meets in secret with a Swedish Jew and member of the World Jewish Congress, Norbert Masur. The meeting is at the instigation of the estate's owmer, Himmler's Finnish physiotherapist Dr Felix Kersten, who has persuaded Hitler's deputy to come without the Führer's knowledge, to bargain for his life as it becomes clear that Germany is losing the war. The stakes are high, the freeing of thousands of Jews from camps is the bargaining chip, and the 'night' whose end is in sight in Brown's tense, eye-opening drama is World War II and the Holocaust. Listen as Judi Herman speaks to Brown about his vital source material – both Kersten's memoirs and Masur's account written immediately on his return to Stockholm – and his fascination with vividly reimagining vital moments in 20th-century history. The End of the Night runs until Saturday 28 May. 7.30pm, 3pm (Thu & Sat only). £18.50-£32.50, £16.50-£23.50 concs. A relatively unknown, yet one of the most influential Jews of the 20th century, Jacob Robinson's (1889-1977) list of accomplishments are seemingly endless. After receiving his doctorate in law, he was drafted into the Czarist military with the outbreak of World War One. After spending three years in a German POW camp, he returned to the newly created independent Lithuania, where he emerged as a leading Zionist, politician, jurist, educator, writer and much more. First representing Jewish interests in the Lithuanian parliament, he soon reached the international stage, arguing for minorities rights in international platforms such as the League of Nations, and entering into an ill fated partnership with Weimar Germany to promote minorities rights. In his efforts to protect Jewish minority rights around the world, he was one of the founders of what would eventually become the World Jewish Congress in 1927. Escaping to the United States in 1940, he soon went to work formulating the legal basis for prosecution of Nazi war criminals post war, eventually serving as a special adviser to the prosecution at the Nuremberg trials. Seeing the failure of the tragic minorities rights saga of interwar Europe, he drafted the new principle of Human Rights, which led to the UN commission on Human Rights. He also assisted the nascent State of Israel with legal counsel at the UN and drafted the reparations agreement with West Germany, later overseeing the Claims Conference. In later years he was a pioneering Holocaust researcher, and was one of the founders of Yad Vashem. Finally, he served as the special legal counsel at the Eichmann trial in 1960, writing the legal basis for the prosecution.   For sponsorship opportunities about your favorite topics of Jewish history contact Yehuda at:  yehuda@yehudageberer.com   Subscribe To Our Podcast on:    PodBean: https://jsoundbites.podbean.com/   Follow us on Twitter or Instagram at @Jsoundbites You can email Yehuda at yehuda@yehudageberer.com

The spy transforms into his cover identity. He will travel to Brazil, where his assassination target is living, and attempt to lure him into a trap. If his cover fails, Herbert Cukurs — The Butcher of Latvia — may kill him. But before Cukurs could be placed on a kill list, and before Mossad could begin to track him down, Cukurs' pursuers had to be sure he was the right guy. Was this really the Butcher of Latvia?  “Good Assassins: Hunting the Butcher" came out of Stephan Talty's work on a related book, The Good Assassin. Explore other parts of this story in the book: Buy The Good Assassin An organization called the World Jewish Congress announced that the Butcher of Latvia had been found and was living in Brazil. And, despite the growing international indifference toward the hunt for Nazis, it had an effect. There were headlines in Brazilian newspapers. Cukurs' business was ruined. He had to move several times to avoid angry protestors.  Eventually Cukurs moves to São Paolo, running another small boat rental business. This was not what Cukurs had imagined for himself. His dreams of building a glorious new life in Brazil had been shattered. The Jews had seen to that. He was bitter, paranoid and lonely. Cukurs hoped for a grand third act to his life. He believed in himself. He just had to convince the world that he'd been misunderstood in order to get his fame and the money back.  The Israeli government kept a list of important Nazi criminals who'd escaped justice. We don't know how many people were on it, but we do know a few of the more famous names: Adolf Eichmann, one of the main architects of the Holocaust. Mossad captured him in 1960, put him on trial, and executed him. Dr. Josef Mengele, known as “The Angel of Death,” who'd murdered Jewish children at Auschwitz and had conducted ghastly experiments on Jewish prisoners, was high on the list. Herbert Cukurs had made the list too.  In the early 1960s, the Israelis became concerned about a possible amnesty for Nazis. The German government was considering giving a free pass to Nazi murderers who hadn't been indicted yet. The Israelis wanted to stop this from happening and they had decided to go after a Nazi. A few months later, our Mossad agent, Mio, was getting ready to assume the role of a lifetime. He had his target. Now he had to prepare to meet him. He faced a confident, tough-minded man. One who wouldn't go quietly. Mio had to plan the mission without explicit directions from headquarters. For that, Mio had to get inside the Butcher's head, find out what he wanted, discover his weak points. Mio booked a flight to Brazil for September 11th, 1964. He was ready to meet the Butcher. Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant, and Jerry Gordon of Israel News Talk Radio – “Beyond the Matrix” bring back Dan Diker of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) to discuss two stunning developments that are game changers: Israel normalizing relations with the UAE and potentially other Arab states in the Gulf and the Balkan countries of Kosovo and Serbia. Diker is the director of the Political Warfare Program at the JCPA and former Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress. UAE Israel normalization sidelines years of Palestinian rejectionism in the Middle East peace process. Diker noted that the announcement of normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel brokered by the Trump Administration upends the Palestinian propaganda machine that has “defamed, dehumanized and delegitimized the Jewish nation state with virulent anti-Semitism.” Diker suggested that today regional peace is now possible with the Arab gulf states with the likelihood that additional normalization agreements may soon become reality with Middle Eastern states such as Bahrain, Oman, Morocco and perhaps Saudi Arabia. Diker noted the granting of air rights by Saudi Arabia through the UAE for travel stopovers to the East, and for the recent transit of U.S. and Israeli delegations to Abu Dhabi. Moreover, recent statements by the Imam of the Grand Mosque appear to welcome these normalization developments. Beyond the Matrix 09SEP2020 - PODCAST

Finally, we speak to best-selling author Alex Berenson, author of ‘Unreported Truths about COVID-19 and Lockdowns’. Mordecai Chertoff came to Palestine in 1947 as a twenty-five-year-old, determined to make his contribution to the emerging Jewish State. Between 1947 and 1949 he was variously, local news editor, foreign news editor and war correspondent for the Palestine Post, soldier in the Haganah and resident of Jerusalem. In a series of vivid and often moving letters to his family back in the United States, Mordecai described the news of the UN vote for partition, the ongoing battles along the dangerous Jerusalem–Tel-Aviv highway and the attempts to break the siege of Jerusalem, the bombing of the Palestine Post, the declaration of the State of Israel, and, inevitably, the loss of friends. These letters have been annotated and contextualized in the book, Palestine Posts: An Eyewitness Account of the Birth of Israel, written by Modecai’s son, Daniel Chertoff. Daniel worked in the investment industry and as a senior executive in a large Israeli high tech company. Before discovering his father’s letters, he was an adviser to the World Jewish Congress and happily writing his doctoral dissertation in English literature at the Hebrew University. Daniel is an Associate Editor of Partial Answers and he joins us today on the podcast to talk about his new book, about his father and about the founding of the state of Israel.

From 1930s cartoons depicting the Jews as sly, hooked-nosed figures to conspiracy theories about Mossad interfering in modern elections and the "Great Replacement", antisemitism may have morphed and changed over the years, but it has seemingly always been with us - and the media still struggles to deal with it. There is a new, coded language in use, but the message remains the same - the Jews wield enormous power, but are not to be trusted. With that in mind, I spoke to Jacob Woolf on his return from the World Jewish Congress in New York to find out exactly what modern antisemitism looks like and how it manifests itself in the modern media and political spheres. In the interview he mentions the work of an organisation called Jews For Economic And Racial Justice - you can read their document "Understanding Antisemitism: An Offering To Our Movement" here.

Seventy-five years ago nearly 34,000 Jews were murdered at Babyn Yar over a two-day period on September 29th and 30th 1941. The location has become a poignant symbol of what is known as The Holocaust by Bullets. Some 1.5 million Jews were shot to death on the territory of what is now Ukraine in this particular aspect of the Holocaust. The Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, or UJE, presented a very much-anticipated program commemorating this 75th anniversary of Babyn Yar.The program, held in Kyiv from September 23rd to 29th this year, featured four distinct projects. There was a public symposium, which included the introduction of a groundbreaking book on Babyn Yar; a student conference; a landscape design competition; and a memorial concert. The effort took years of planning and was widely applauded both in Ukraine and abroad. The UJE worked with the World Jewish Congress, Ukraine’s government, and other Ukrainian Jewish and diaspora organizations to plan and present its program.UJE board member Paul Robert Magocsi, who along with his colleague Adrian Karatnycky spearheaded the program, noted, “Our goal was to turn the attention of Ukrainians and the world community to Babyn Yar and to show it is a very important symbol of a mass tragedy of the 20th century,”A special feature of the public symposium was the presentation of the newly published book Babyn Yar: History and Memory. The book, published both in English and Ukrainian, presents essays written by ten authors, including several symposium participants. They looked at the treatment of Babyn Yar in art, culture, and literature.Dr. Vladislav Hrynevych, who co-edited the book with Dr. Magocsi, said, “This book is not about death but about life, and about the battle for memory about Babyn Yar. It also raises the question of what is the future of Babyn Yar. How is it to be organized?”Nearly two hundred young people from all over the world attended the youth conference. The conference coordinator, Dr. Ihor Shchupak of Dnipro’s Tkumah Institute for Holocaust Studies, said. “We were able to get away from national egoism. We remembered that our country was touched by three genocides: the Holodomor, the Holocaust, and the deportation of Crimean Tatars. We also talked about the Holocaust against the backdrop of the contemporary Russian-Ukrainian war. We understood there is no such thing as someone else's pain.”Another highlight of the week was the presentation of winning entries of an international landscape competition sponsored by the UJE as a first step in the expected creation of a necropolis at Babyn Yar.There was no first-place award as the jury did not feel any of the entries fulfilled all its requirements. However, Vitaliy Nakhmanovych, one of Ukraine’s leading Babyn Yar historians who oversaw the competition, said the two second-place winners and a third-place winner provided a promising foundation for the creation of a memorial park at Babyn Yar.The UJE board chairman James C. Temerty presented the competition winners with awards. The commemorative week concluded with a memorial concert, which featured the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the renowned Ukrainian Dumka Chorus, and international opera stars, including Pavlo Hunka of England. Ukraine native Oksana Lyniv, who currently works with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, was conductor and the opera director Annechien Koerselman of the Netherlands staged the powerful performance.Approximately 160 people were involved in the performances of Max Bruch’s prayful Kol Nidrei; the Kaddish-Requiem by Yevhen Stankovych, based on the poems of the Ukrainian writer Dmytro Pavlychko; and A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.Amidst all these events, one distinguished visitor to Kyiv was World Jewish Congress... Near the “Places of Ha’Shoah” images is another grouping titled “Fragments of the Budapest Ghetto.” These scenes are from an old Jewish section of Pest, Hungary, a district of 19th century buildings near the Danube River. Here the Nazis established a large ghetto in June 1944, several months after occupying Hungary and deporting virtually every Jew living in the provinces. Budapest’s 220,000 Jews were forced into 2,000 houses marked with a yellow star. In October, Hungarian Fascists began their program of anti-Jewish violence, even as Soviet troops approached the city. In November, thousands of Jews were shot and thrown into the Danube and preparations were made for massive deportation of those remaining. The Soviets occupied Budapest on Jan. 18, 1945, and an estimated 120,000 Jews were saved. Dominating the Jewish section is the Moorish-style Dohany Street Synagogue, a huge, ornate, twin-towered structure inaugurated in 1859 by the city’s Neolog (Reform) congregation. The largest active synagogue in Europe, it seats 3,000 and has undergone a full restoration that was completed in 2009. During the war, the church was fenced off and used as a concentration camp for Jews massed prior to deportation. In the arcade courtyard are individual and mass graves of thousands of Budapest’s ghetto victims. Another courtyard contains a memorial to Hungarian Holocaust victims, a weeping willow tree created in granite and steel, by Hungarian sculptor Irma Varga. On nearby Sip Street are found the offices of the Central Board of Hungarian Jews, the Budapest Jewish Community, the World Jewish Congress and the American Joint Distribution Committee. The immediate neighborhood offers an Orthodox Mikvah, kosher restaurants, grocers and wine shops, Jewish gift shops and three Jewish schools.

REFLECTION QUOTES “Not all those who wander are lost.” ~J.R.R. Tolkien in Lord of the Rings “Why is the world silent while Christians are being slaughtered in the Middle East and Africa? …Historians may look back at this period and wonder if people had lost their bearings. Few reporters have traveled to Iraq to bear witness to the Nazi-like wave of terror that is rolling across that country. The United Nations has been mostly mum. World leaders seem to be consumed with other matters…. Why doesn't the slaughter of Christians seem to activate their social antennas?” ~Ronald S. Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, nearly a year ago (4-19-2014) in the New York Times Op-Ed “China Aid…says that last year more than 7,400 Christians suffered persecution in China….” “‘By my calculations China is destined to become the largest Christian country in the world very soon,' said Fenggang Yang, a professor of sociology at Purdue University…. ‘It is going to be less than a generation. Not many people are prepared for this dramatic change.… Mao thought he could eliminate religion. He thought he had accomplished this. It's ironic – they didn't. They actually failed completely.'” ~“The Economist” 4-19-2014 “Some Chinese also discern in Christianity the roots…behind the development of social justice, civil society and rule of law, all things they hope to see in China…. One civil-rights activist says that, of the 50 most-senior civil-rights lawyers in China probably half are Christians.” ~“The Economist” 11-1-2014 “What makes authentic disciples is not visions, ecstasies, biblical mastery of chapter and verse, or spectacular success in the ministry, but a capacity for faithfulness. Buffeted by the fickle winds of failure, battered by their own unruly emotions, and bruised by rejection and ridicule, authentic disciples may have stumbled and frequently fallen, endured lapses and relapses…and wandered into a far county. Yet, they kept coming back to Jesus.” ~Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel: Good News for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Burnt Out SERMON PASSAGE Genesis 12:10-13:2 10 Now there was a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 It came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman; 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Please say that you are my sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account of you.” 14 It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels. 17 But the Lord struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go.” 20 Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him. Chapter 13 1So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him. 2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.

Do US demands challenge Israeli sovereignty? Bobby Brown, former adviser to Prime Ministers Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, claims that Israel has full rights to designate the land following an extensive legal investigation, while VOI's Dan Diker, former Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress, suggests that the timing of the announcement is problematic.
