It's three days of panels, parties, contests, vendors, celebrity guests, live music -- everything you could want as a horror fan. This will be my sixth year hosting panels at the convention, but I've been going to Flashback much longer than just these six years. I love it.This year's Flashback features a salute to 30 years of the Scream franchise, celebrates Halloween II, a Night of the Creeps reunion, features first-time Flashback appearances from Henry Thomas, Steven Weber, and the Silent Night, Deadly Night Santas, and even has Obsession co-star Megan Lawless making her convention debut (I get to host her panel on Sunday! Come on out!). Plus, this year sees the world premiere of a brand new Full Moon movie (relevant to my interests!), in-costume photo opps, Alan Howarth playing the score to Halloween II LIVE along with the film, a tribute to Svengoolie (the greatest horror host of all time), and so much more.One of my favorite things about Flashback -- besides all the cool guests and the chance to spend the weekend surrounded by horror stuff and horror fans -- is that it's a family-run convention and really feels that way. Yesterday I walked into Target looking for a journal and walked out with a lesson I had to bring to you. I overheard a mom tell her daughter they couldn't get the supplies she wanted, and something clicked. I bought that little girl everything she needed, then kept going from store to store looking for more people to help. This episode is not about what I did. It is about the 'once I, then I' trap that keeps you from making a difference right now, and why the impact you think is small to you could be massive for someone else. Waiting until you have more before you give keeps you from using what you already have. When you commit to making a difference, your mind starts finding opportunities everywhere. Welcome to a new Boys' Bible Study side project called "The DharMann Bums," which is what we're renaming the show whenever we cover an episode of Dhar Mann, the inspirational YouTube filmmaker who racks up hundreds of millions of views making dramaslop with a questionable moral compass. We've covered Dhar Mann before, enjoying his decadent world where archetypes like "nice guys" and gold diggers duke it out, usually over money, and the evil party gets punished for their hubris. Since it's time for our annual Christmas in July episode, we decided to delve into two Christmas-themed Dhar Mann videos: "Foster Mom Won't Let Kids Have Christmas Presents" and "Adopted Kid Finds Out Mall Santa Is His Dad." Notice both plots center on orphans; the orphan is a common Dhar Mann archetype, probably popular because his audience of primarily children empathizes with downtrodden kids stuck between adults who don't have their best interests at heart. Another common trope is the evil foster parent, who only wants kids for the money they bring in through abuse of government handouts. In "Foster Mom," an evil Russian-coded foster mom makes her kids ask for Amazon gift cards for Christmas and blocks adoptions, since losing kids means losing income for her orphanage. In "Mall Santa," an evil foster mom hides her adopted son from his real dad, a humble mall Santa, again because he's her source of passive income. In both videos, Dhar Mann exists as an aspirational God-like figure representing both God and Santa Claus. Only by contacting Dhar Mann, and through the goodness of his own heart, are these orphans relieved of their evil caretakers. By frequently critiquing misuse of government resources while establishing himself as the source of grace and charity, Dhar Mann seems to imply a kind of YouTuber autocracy where the dignity to live comes from one Mann alone. This bizarre quasi-religious undertone, where there is no God but Dhar Mann, makes him fascinating for our podcast about religious megalomania. Sam is desperate for a little cool down so he brings us the holidays in July with the 2021 Hallmark movie The Santa Stakeout. Tanya is a newly minted detective having recently moved to a suburb of Denver. She's facing the ghastly prospect of spending Christmas alone, but fortunately there has been a series of art heists that coincided with Christmas parties around town. Unfortunately, Tanya is put on the case with the person she hates most, Detective Anderson, and they're going to have to share a house while staking out the prime suspect: A Santa actor known only as Mr. Christmas. Somehow, Tanya turns this into an excuse to create a winter wonderland in stakeout house, while both she and Anderson completely ignore or, at best, botch the case. Seriously, these two are such lousy detective that Tanya can't find a Christmas present at a holiday market, and Anderson loses track of the suspect because he's too busy baking gingerbread men. Things get worse when they immediately and unilaterally turn their stakeout into an undercover operation to infiltrate the most dangerous organization in the country: The Christmas Committee. Will our two terrible cops crack the case? More importantly from Hallmark's perspective, will they go from enemies to lovers? We don't think you need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that out.

His daughter Cassie shows up with her husband James and son Terence and they all start to decorate the tree. Little Terence pulls out a Santa ornament. Grandpa insists there's one more ornament in there that goes with Santa. Sure enough, there is one more ornament of some random dude. Terence is like who is this? Grandpa Nicolas is like well have I got a story for you. Before Santa was Santa, he was Saint Nicolas, a Christian Bishop and Patron Saint of Children who would travel around, giving presents to children. One day he is arrested by the Spanish government who suspect he is actually a spy and their concerns only grow when they discover that he carries around a book called The Book of Life that has a ton of names in it and stuff about each of those people. Gotta be honest...sounds like a spy. While in jail, he meets a guy named Peter who is shocked when this old dude knows his name and knows that he wants to travel the world. When Pete finds out that he's St. Nicolas, they spend the night talking, and Pete decides to bust St. Nick out. They become partners and years later they decide to head to the New World. Before they leave they are approached by a dude who wants them to find someone named Elizabeth Van Olden to give her an engagement ring and a promise to join her as soon as he can. Santa and Pete are shocked to find out that the New World is not the perfect paradise they had heard about. People are too busy to celebrate Christmas and there's hostility between the settlers and the Native Americans. There's no open lodging for the famous Santa and Pete, so they're forced to sleep in a barn for the night where they find a little girl named Marlene. She tells them that she lost her parents while they were building a cabin in the woods. Santa promises that they'll find her parents and Pete is like whoa that's a big promise. Santa and Pete meet with the governor to ask for help finding Marlene's parents. He tells them that the Native Americans took them and he's planning an attack. So that's not great. On Christmas Eve, they travel by carriage and reindeer to go visit the Dangola family, including Janet who Pete thinks is FINEEEEE. On the way back, they are stopped by the Native Americans. They say they've been waiting for the man with the white beard to fulfill the prophecy. Santa requests they return Marlene's parents and they give Santa a bright red coat. Santa and Pete begin delivering presents and find that the village boot boy has made Nick some black leather boots. Arriving at the governor's house they realize there are no traditional wooden clogs to put gifts in and end up going down the chimney and leaving gifts in stockings instead. Plus, pacifiers after age 2 (yes or no?), and the true or false round: is the second kid actually rules-free? Was parenting easier before Instagram? Do parents secretly love when plans get canceled?
