On Saturday, Megan broke a 15-year-old course record at Quad Dipsea! This episode shares everything about the journey in a “no secrets” style. The record was set by Caren Spore in 2010, back when Megan was playing field hockey and her biggest runs were wind-sprints. Years later, when Megan was in medical school in the Bay Area, the Quad became a bucket list event. But it never happened—a 28 mile race with 9000 feet of vertical gain and approximately three billion steps was just too much at that stage of her life. Then came the heart issues and 2 kids. This weekend, she got back on the brutal, stair-filled trails and WENT PRIMAL. We break it all down, featuring listener questions and hot takes on training, strength work, nutrition, heart rate, stairs, and so much more! Thank you all for being here for the wild ride. Send us a textIn this final episode of the year, I'm talking about something I see all the time in my work — but something women rarely feel able to admit out loud: that the desperate longing for a baby doesn't always match how they feel once they are actually here. After more than two decades supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and those early vulnerable weeks, I've heard this story in so many different forms. Today, I'm sharing the experience of a mum I met at a recent coffee morning — Emma — who gave me permission to talk about her journey.Emma had two miscarriages before this pregnancy. She spent months just trying to get to the birth, believing that once her baby was safely here, everything would fall into place. But her birth ended up being long, heavily managed, and exhausting, leaving her feeling out of control. She also struggled with the after-effects of the pain relief she received. And when she finally held her baby, she didn't feel the rush of emotion she'd imagined. Her question to me — quiet, honest, and full of guilt — forms the heart of this episode.Together, we unpack why so many women feel this way, why these feelings don't mean anything is wrong, and how the emotional transition into motherhood is far more complex than most people prepare you for.If you love the podcast and would like to support it, then please use the link to 'buy me a coffee' - https://bmc.link/sallyannberesfordIf you would like to buy a copy of either of the books that accompany this podcast please go to your online bookseller or visit Amazon:-Labour of Love - The Ultimate Guide to Being a Birth Partner - click here:-https://bit.ly/LabourofloveThe Art of Giving Birth - Five Key Physiological Principles - https://amzn.to/3EGh9dfPregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth' - Black and White version https://amzn.to/3CvJXmOPregnancy Journal for 'The Art of Giving Birth'- Colour version https://amzn.to/3GknbPFYou can find all my classes and courses on my website - www.sallyannberesford.co.uk Follow me on Instagram @theultimatebirthpartner Book a 1-2-1 session with Sallyann - https://linktr.ee/SallyannBeresford Please remember that the information shared with you in this episode is solely based on my own personal experiences as a doula and the private opinions of my guests, based on their own experiences. Can I breathe? From a mom to a mom
Today I am talking with two-time Olympian and Saucony athlete Molly Huddle, who just ran the Every Woman's Marathon six months postpartum with her second baby. Molly used the race as a long training run and shares what it felt like to approach the marathon in a more relaxed, flexible way than she has in the past while still respecting how hard 26.2 miles feels at any pace. We get into how life looks right now with two young daughters, how she and her husband are tag-teaming work and parenting, and what it has been like to train and race while breastfeeding. Molly explains why she chose this marathon as a fundraising opportunity for For All Mothers+, how she approached the effort on the day, and what she learned about her current fitness and recovery. Molly also talks about where she is with professional running at age 41, her hope to qualify for another Olympic Marathon Trials, and what it means to her to compete in a “part-time” or “semi-retired” way while she leans into coaching, writing, and parenting. We talk about identity shifts in motherhood, the invisible work that goes into raising kids, and how to stay engaged with the sport even when the goals and timelines look different than they did in your twenties. Finally, Molly shares more about the new pregnancy and postpartum running book she is co-writing, the research she is excited about, and her thoughts on aging, body image, and what it really means to let running “light you up,” whatever season of life you are in. Topics Discussed: Molly's decision to run the Every Woman's Marathon six months postpartum Using a marathon as a long training run instead of an all-out effort Balancing breastfeeding, travel, and race-day logistics with a baby and a toddler Fundraising and partnering with For All Mothers+ at the race How the Every Woman's Marathon creates an unintimidating, women-centered race experience Postpartum training, injury history, and choosing a more cautious path back Shifting identity from full-time pro runner to part-time competitor, coach, and writer Motherhood, invisible labor, and how priorities around work and running change Body image, aging, and pressure around appearance and performance The new pregnancy and postpartum running book and current women's health research Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. BLACK FRIDAY IS HERE: GRAB MY ESSENTIAL BIRTH FOR ONLY $197!!“I love my baby… AND I'm struggling.” If you've ever thought that and immediately felt guilt, shame, or fear that something was wrong—you are not alone. In this deeply moving and much-needed episode, I sit down with Dr. Margo Lowy, author of the powerful new book Maternal Ambivalence, to talk about the full emotional reality of motherhood—starting in pregnancy. This conversation is profoundly healing. It normalizes the feelings so many mothers carry silently: the love, the overwhelm, the resentment, the doubt, and the deep devotion that all exist at the same time.If you've ever felt overwhelmed, conflicted, judged, isolated, or like you're “not doing motherhood right,” this episode is 100% for you. It may be one of the most important conversations I've shared this year for pregnant moms and mothers everywhere. Here's what we cover:2:43 – Meet Dr. Margo Lowy & why the emotional truth of motherhood begins in pregnancy—not at birth. 6:35 – What maternal ambivalence really means (and why loving your baby while feeling resentment is completely normal). 14:43 – “Will I get through this?” What to do when motherhood feels overwhelming—and how the right support changes everything. 20:25 – The pressure to be a “perfect mom,” the lie of social media, and why real motherhood was never meant to be lived in isolation. 33:31 – Inside her book Maternal Ambivalence and how understanding your full range of emotions can release shame at every stage. 42:21 – Letting go of the “inner camera” that constantly judges your mothering—and learning to flow with compassion instead.Motherhood was never meant to be neat, quiet, or flawless. It's messy, interrupted, overwhelming, sacred, and deeply loving—all at once. If you're pregnant, newly postpartum, or years into motherhood and still questioning yourself, this episode will leave you with a deep breath of relief, maybe a tear or two, and a renewed ability to trust yourself as a mother. ✨ Don't forget to FOLLOW the show so you never miss an episode that makes pregnancy & birth feel easier! Send us a textWelcome to the November Q&A! Today, we start with a topic that always stirs strong feelings—birth partners. From the gestures that truly helped to the ones that fell short, we chat about your experiences of your partner's support, presence, connection or not.Next, we respond to an emotional call for help from a sleep-deprived and emotionally exhausted mother whose husband threatens to call the cops on her for how she handled an overwhelming moment with her toddler. Today's episode includes a special guest appearance from Nancy Wainer, world-renowned midwife and the woman who coined the term VBAC. Nancy answers a listener's question about an anterior placenta in a planned VBAC and explains what her decades of experience tell us about how placentas behave in utero. We also discuss endometrial polyps and whether a biopsy could affect future fertility, how to handle conversations about home birth within a hospital work environment, and how to choose a midwife when you have numerous options and like them all. In Quickies, we cover making baby-wearing more comfortable, the myth that labor “starts” at one centimeter, chiropractic versus pelvic floor PT in pregnancy, relieving newborn gas, timing big changes during teething, postpartum nutrition, and even whether to skip airport scanners while pregnant. We end with each of us pondering which baby names we'd choose today and our favorite ways to spend a slow morning at home.VBAC: How to Plan for Success#257 | Labor & Delivery Nurses' Roundtable: How Their Hands are Tied to Doctors' Orders#273 | Special Q&A Featuring Nancy Wainer on VBAC and More********** Needed

Send us a textThe holidays ask a lot from anyone, and even more from someone navigating pregnancy or early postpartum. Between loud rooms, strong smells, and a conveyor belt of opinions about your body and your baby, your nervous system can hit overload fast. We dive into why this happens, how to spot it sooner, and the exact words you can use to step away without guilt or drama. You'll hear our favorite “golden ticket” exit lines that protect your peace while sounding perfectly reasonable to family and friends. For pregnancy, phrases like I'm exhausted, I need to lie down for a bit or These smells are overwhelming, I'm going to get some fresh air let you reset before stress spikes. For postpartum, baby-centered lines such as Baby needs to feed somewhere quiet or It's getting too stimulating for the baby create space for both of you to breathe. We also share boundary scripts for classic comments like Are you sure you should eat that? and You look ready to pop, using neutral redirects, the expert card, humor that disarms, and firm shutdowns for repeat offenders. We close with clean, kind ways to leave early—We're heading home, I'm at my limit today, My body's telling me it needs rest—so you can honor your limits without overexplaining. The goal isn't to win debates; it's to protect your energy, reduce overstimulation, and keep your mental health front and center during a season that can quickly become too much. If you're ready to choose calm over chaos and practice self-trust in real time, this one's for you.If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs permission to leave early, and leave a quick review telling us which script you'll try first. In this episode, we dive into a topic that doesn't get nearly enough airtime — postpartum depletion. We chat about how common it really is (spoiler: way more than most people realise!) and why prepping for that phase is just as important as prepping for birth itself. We get into the physical, emotional, and nutritional sides of recovery, and share some practical ways new mums can nourish themselves and actually ask for help — because doing it all alone is so last season. We also talk about the power of good preconception care, having a solid nutrition game plan, and letting go of the pressure to be perfect. At the end of the day, it's all about giving yourself grace and putting your well-being first during this wild, beautiful, transformative time.FIND NAT BELOW:Website - https://nataliekdouglas.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/natalie.k.douglasBook a Free Assessment Call - https://NatalieKDouglas.as.me/?appointmentType=50255874EndoNourish - Endometriosis and Adenomyosis Guide - https://nataliekdouglas.com/endonourish-holistic-endometriosis-adenomyoisis-care-guide/SacredSeeds - Preconception Care Guidehttps://nataliekdouglas.com/preconception-care-guide/PCOS Wellness Guidehttps://nataliekdouglas.com/pcos-holistic-guide/Thyroid Rescue - Self guided programhttps://nataliekdouglas.com/thyroid-rescue/Coming Off The Pill/IUD Holistic Guidehttps://nataliekdouglas.com/coming-off-the-pill-mini-course/PMS/PMDD Natural Solutons Masterclass https://nataliekdouglas.com/pms-pmdd-natural-solutions-masterclass/Restore and Nourish Gut Reset - https://nataliekdouglas.com/restore-nourish-gut-reset/Perimenopause Masterclass -https://nataliekdouglas.com/perimenopause-masterclass-holistic-toolkit/Become a one-to-one clienthttps://nataliekdouglas.com/1-1-naturopathic-nutrition-consultations/FIND AMIE BELOW:Book a Free Discovery Call: https://p.bttr.to/3yBdmu3 Book Yourself In: https://l.bttr.to/ZDxWOWebsite - https://whatthenaturopathsaid.com Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thatnaturopathJoin the mailing list - https://elysium-clinic-of-natural-medicine.ck.page/69663ce14a

In this episode of The Hypnobirthing Podcast, I'm joined by Hanna, co-founder of Life Postpartum, a holistic recovery platform created to support women through the often-overlooked postpartum period. After experiencing her own challenges and feelings of uncertainty after birth, Hanna was inspired to build an accessible and affordable space where new mums can find the care and guidance they need. We chat about why postpartum recovery deserves just as much focus as birth preparation, and explore the physical, emotional, and nutritional sides of healing after birth. Hanna shares how Life Postpartum connects women with trusted experts and resources, and we talk about the importance of self-care, support, and community during the fourth trimester. Click here to send me a quick message :) So much of life these days seems to be polarized. As if the world is black and white, right and wrong. And this is no different in the birth world. As social media reach has taken hold, I've been watching the rise of polarity especially in the "free birth" community. Honestly, I had friends freebirthing before Instagram existed, but I also trained in homebirth midwifery for 5 years. So my frame has always been pretty nuanced. I've witnessed empowered hands-off births at home, more hands-on home birth midwifery styles, birth center births with nurse midwives, empowered hospital births and even the cascade of interventions happen in hospitals. Over the years of my midwifery training and birth work (this was 10-15 years ago), I became curious about more hands-off styles in home settings. My favorite births I witnessed were the ones where the midwives left (I was a doula) and/or sat in the corner knitting or reading for hours. And this is exactly the kind of story Leah shares in this week's episode. Except even more surprising in some ways. Her birth was truly self-directed, and the midwives seemed to be holding the container of safety, offering options and reminders and cervical checks when she asked for them, but always deferring back to her direction. There is so much in this story that I hope plants seeds of possibility of nuance in the spectrum of what's possible in birth. And she also shares about the practice of postpartum yoni steaming, and how that was a key to her personal pelvic floor healing after her severe tear which required surgery. So you'll hear about that, too!Resources:Sign up for the waitlist for Natural Contraception the Herbal Way program!Free Track Your Cycle Naturally (FAM) guideToday's shownotes: Get links to Leah's steaming + birthwork offeringsEpisode 25: Immediate postpartum care the herbal way w Liz PhilbrickHarvard study -- reduced inflammation through kinder self-talkcouldn't find the study but found these:Mindfulness + positive health outcomes - Harvard professor Ellen Langer + Harvard HealthEmodiversity + Biomarkers of InflammationIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom. ✅ Humanizing healthcare is more than a trend—it's a necessity in a world dominated by AI, Google, and overwhelmed medical systems. In this episode, Dr. Amy Loden Tiffany, MD shares how she helps women reconnect with real care in an era of digital overload, physician burnout, and distrust in the system. Are you searching for a healthcare experience that prioritizes you, not the algorithm? Many women feel unheard by traditional medicine. Dr. Amy, a physician and TEDx speaker, explains how her concierge telemedicine clinic offers more than prescriptions—it offers clarity, connection, and transformation. If you've ever turned to Google or ChatGPT for answers, felt lost after a medical visit, or wondered why your symptoms are dismissed as “in your head,” this conversation will speak directly to you.
