Daryl-Ann Denner, Co-Founder and CEO of nuuds, turned a personal frustration—why is the perfect T-shirt so hard to find?—into a nine-figure clothing brand that sold 50,000 units in its first seven minutes. What started as a blog and Instagram account turned into a company built on real body fittings, transparency, and loyalty from a super-engaged community. In this episode, Daryl-Ann shares how she navigated postpartum anxiety while building a business, why she bets on herself instead of outside investors, and how a failed distribution partnership almost derailed nuuds' early momentum. Key Takeaways and Topics How blogging in her 20s laid the foundation for launching NUUDS Leaving pre-med behind and embracing unexpected pivots Postpartum anxiety, therapy, and medication—and how it impacted her leadership Why she believes confidence is a “trained muscle” The decision to bootstrap nuuds and risk everything on the first production run Launch day chaos: near-website failure, selling out in seven minutes, and the emotional aftermath The failure of a flashy distribution partnership and what it taught her about integrity Why she rejects “perfect fit models” and builds clothing around real women's insecurities The role of community trust and transparency in scaling to nine figures Her mantra, “do it afraid,” and what it means in practice The Failure Factor Podcast was brought to you by Off The Field Coaching. In this episode of the Practice Brave podcast, I catch up with my longtime friend and fellow athlete mom, Michaela North. Michaela is one of the OGs in the CrossFit space—an individual competitor, a CrossFit Games team champion, and now the founder of Hungry Fitness, where she leads a team of coaches supporting women through all stages of life with nutrition and training. We reflect on more than a decade of pregnancies, postpartums, and athletic pursuits, sharing how much (and how little) has changed in the resources available to moms in sport. Together, we talk about the importance of adaptability, the myth of “all or nothing” in motherhood and fitness, and how these lessons set us up for long-term health, performance, and fulfillment. This conversation is both nostalgic and forward-looking—celebrating how far we've come while recognizing the work that's still needed to support women in every stage of motherhood and athleticism. In this episode, Coach Cynthia explains these hidden risks and how moms can protect their heart health, reclaim energy, and create a calmer, healthier home.

What to Listen For: Why breastfeeding alone won't guarantee weight loss (and what to focus on instead) The impact of hormone shifts and metabolism changes postpartum What nutrient deficiencies and blood sugar crashes have to do with your weight How sleep deprivation and stress can slow down or stall your results Why some moms even gain weight while breastfeeding and what to do about it Brooke's personal story of 3 very different postpartum weight journeys How to spot hidden root causes like thyroid issues, gut imbalances, and PCOS Why undereating might be making things worse for your energy, mood, and supply Simple things you can do today to support your health (without burnout!) When we think about preparing for a new baby, most of the attention goes to labor and delivery, but what about what happens after the birth? Too often, parents are sent home with a newborn and very little support for their physical recovery, mental health, and emotional well-being. And when things feel overwhelming, scary, or not how they expected, they wonder if something is wrong with them. But what I want new mothers to know is: Nothing is wrong with you. However, something is missing from the way we prepare families for postpartum, and it's time we talked about it. In this episode of Chick Chat, I sat down with Nancy Di Nuzzo, Founder of Anamav Postnatal Care, to talk about the reality of postpartum recovery, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), and what it truly looks like to feel supported during one of life's most intense transitions. Who Is Nancy Di Nuzzo? Nancy Di Nuzzo is a Postpartum Doula, New Parent Educator, Perinatal Mental Health Specialist, and CPA. Yes, you read that right! She went from working in finance to becoming a fierce advocate for families after living through her own traumatic postpartum experience. Now a mother of two, Nancy is the founder of Anamav Postnatal Care, a practice dedicated to supporting families with doula care, lactation support, therapy, sleep coaching, and more, both virtually and in-home. She brings not only her professional expertise, but also deep empathy and lived experience to every conversation. Her mission? To help close the huge gap in postpartum care and make sure no parent feels like they have to “just get through it” on their own. What We Talked About This episode is an essential listen for any new parent, whether you're expecting your first baby or already in the thick of postpartum life. Nancy breaks down what many people wish they had known before giving birth, and shares practical tools for building a more supported, emotionally safe experience. Postpartum doesn't have to be something you just survive. With the right planning, the right tools, and the right support, it can be a season of healing, bonding, and growth. But it starts with knowing you deserve support — not just your baby. Nancy's insight is such a powerful reminder that your mental health matters. Your story matters. And how you feel in this season matters. If you're a new or expecting parent, I hope this conversation helps you feel seen, validated, and encouraged to build a postpartum experience rooted in real care. What does default parenting mean? Default parenting may be a new term but it's a very old concept. The default parent is the one who handles every aspect of family life- doctor appointments, play dates, school shopping, meal planning, discipline, and problem-solving. Maybe you wonder why your kids walk past their dad to ask you for something or why you feel like you are the only person who ever replaces the toilet paper. Being the default parent can feel overwhelming and even lonely. What You'll Learn How pregnancy, medical monitoring, and rapid body changes can activate perfectionism, control seeking, and body dissatisfaction The effects of weight stigma in prenatal and postpartum care, and what weight-inclusive providers do differently Why severe nausea and food aversions can persist after birth, and how to support flexible, adequate nourishment Breastfeeding, pumping, and formula choices through a nonjudgmental, mental health first lens Sensory overload in pregnancy and the fourth trimester, including smell sensitivity and tactile overwhelm Athletes, performance culture, and disordered eating patterns that can resurface in the perinatal period How to protect recovery when social media pushes “bounce back” messages Building a trusted, affirming care team that honors intersectionality and neurodiversity Key Takeaways Your body will change during pregnancy and after birth, and that reality deserves compassion, not comparison. Weight-inclusive prenatal and postpartum care improves outcomes by removing shame and centering consent. Feeding decisions work best when they support the caregiver's mental health and the baby's needs, not a rigid ideal. Sensory supports reduce distress. Use smell blockers, quieter environments, comfortable fabrics, and predictable routines. Curate your feeds. Unfollow “get your body back” influencers and follow licensed, values-aligned clinicians. Recovery helps you show up for your baby and for yourself. Nourishment and rest are part of caring for your family. What happens when you see behind the curtain of labor and delivery? In this episode, I speak with Rylee, a young mother who chose to freebirth her first child after working inside the hospital system. From the vantage point of the “business of birth,” Rylee began to question everything she thought she knew about pregnancy. That unraveling brought her face-to-face with the deep dissonance between what she was told was “right” and what her body knew was true.Carrying that knowing into her own pregnancy, she made the radical choice to step away from the system entirely. Rylee shares what it was like to work as a self-described “fearmongering phlebotomist,” to quit, and then to bring her baby earthside in her own power. Her story is one of unlearning, reclaiming, and discovering the strength that emerges when a woman finally trusts herself. What You'll Hear:Why Rylee walked away from working in a hospitalWhat it feels like to stand up to doctors and refuse routine proceduresThe hidden link between hospital “convenience” and high C-section ratesWhy even trusted OBs and familiar clinics can still feel wrongHow she found her rhythm and delivered her baby in a birth pool at homeThe joy of her birth: laughing while pushing, with her mother and husband as witnessesTimestamps:[00:00] Introduction[09:03] Starting to question the hospital method and learning about freebirth[15:45] Climbing out of the system and trusting her instincts[19:57] Defying the doctors and reclaiming her sovereignty[28:15] Realizing that the hospital is a business[36:37] Choosing who she wanted at her freebirth[38:14] The psychedelic moment before labor began[45:40] Moving into the second day of labour, feeling tired, and calling her Mom[48:47] Exhausted, in a trance, and roaring through the portal of labor[51:32] Finding her rhythm and bringing her baby earth side in the pool[58:19] Getting out of the pool, the first cuddles, and delivering the placentaIf you want to connect more with Rylee, follow her on Instagram.Watch Rylee's birth video here.Find more from Emilee on Instagram, YouTube and the Free Birth Society website.Disclaimer: Free Birth Society, LLC of North Carolina shares personal and educational stories and experiences related to freebirth and holistic care. Send us a textIn this episode, I sit down with Laura Fuentes-Aparicio, a physiotherapist who helps women with their pelvic health. She is the Director of the Master's Program in Specialized Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and teaches at the University of Valencia. Laura's mission is simple: to raise awareness, share knowledge, and find the best ways to help women feel and live better. We also dig into her recent research on abdominal and lumbar muscle recovery after pregnancy. Using ultrasound, her team compared women who had never given birth with those six months postpartum. They found the oblique muscles were thinner in postpartum women, but overall contractile function of the core remained intact—an important distinction for clinicians making decisions about exercise progressions and postpartum rehabWhether you're a clinician, a student, or just curious, this episode gives you a closer look at the challenges women face and how science, exercise, and better care can make a difference. We talk about:-The challenges of doing research-How abdominal thickness can change in women-Why exercise during pregnancy matters-Diastasis recti (ab separation)-Different approaches to treatment for pelvic healthTime Stamps1:00 Introduction2:10 conducting research in Spain8:05 working with subject matter experts11:47 discussing the 2024 Journal paper16:50 recommendations in Spain20:00 recluse abdominus exercises25:20 when women see a physio in Spain31:59 expanding on research40:01 using more modalities44:55 favorite part of researchCONNECT WITH CARRIEIG: https://www.instagram.com/carriepagliano/Website: https://carriepagliano.comCONNECT WITH LAURA:IG: https://www.instagram.com/laurafisiosuelopelvico/Email: laura.fuentes@uv.esThe Active Mom Podcast is A Real Moms' Guide to pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause & beyond for active moms & the professionals who help them in their journey. In this solo episode, I share from the heart about the messy middle ground of pregnancy and postpartum athleticism. After more than 12 years of working with female athletes, I've seen the pendulum swing between two extremes: overly conservative, fear-based recommendations and the “full send, no modifications needed” approach. Neither tells the whole story. I dive into why nuance matters when it comes to training during pregnancy and postpartum, and how athlete psychology, core and pelvic health, and long-term performance goals all need to be part of the conversation. I also reflect on my own experiences with birth trauma, recovery, and what it means to adapt as an athlete across different life seasons. If you're pregnant, postpartum, a coach, or simply curious about supporting female athletes, this episode is a reminder that athleticism doesn't end when motherhood begins. Instead, it evolves — and learning how to adapt is what preserves performance, identity, and longevity in sport and life.

Okay, friends—today is a super special episode because I have my husband Josh on the podcast with me! We're telling the full story of how baby Chip came into the world…and let me tell you, it was not what we expected. From thinking I'd just walk into the hospital and get the epidural (lol) to watching a Bin Laden documentary while laboring (double lol), things escalated fast and got real intense. We talk about everything—the painful wait for the epidural, my back labor, Josh going full Enneagram 8 on the nurses, and the sweetest moment when we paused to pray and God showed up big. This episode is raw, funny, and deeply personal. So grateful to share this one with you! In This Episode [06:00] Labor Begins... During a War Documentary? We realize I'm in early labor, and yes—we're watching an Osama Bin Laden documentary instead of listening to Oceans. [09:00] The Hospital Experience: Confusion, Back Labor & No EpiduralThey didn't believe I was in labor (spoiler: I was). Then we waited over two hours for an epidural while I was in major pain. [14:00] Josh Goes Full Enneagram 8 & I Hit My LimitJosh has a throwdown with the nurses while I contemplate accepting fentanyl (!!!). We stop to pray—and God really met us. [18:00] Redemption in the Chaos + Chip is Here The anesthesiologist finally shows up. I go from 7cm to pushing, but the wireless monitor throws us off. Once I trust my gut, Chip is born in five minutes. [26:00] Processing the Birth + What We'd Do Differently We reflect on how hospital staff impacted our experience and what we'd change if there's a baby #3.[30:30] Meet Chip: How We Picked His Name Chip James Durham, y'all! We unpack the story behind the name—including the spicy alternatives like Chip Danger and Chip Legend. [33:30] Life With Two Kids: The Beautiful Chaos What it's been like going from one to two, how we're adjusting, and why we're soaking in every smile from baby Chip. In today's episode, Julie Francom talks with Diana, who shares her Cesarean and two very different VBAC stories. Diana's journey began with a Cesarean birth including a velamentous cord insertion and a long, difficult recovery complicated by painful breastfeeding abscesses. For her second baby, she planned a home birth VBAC and euphorically welcomed her baby at home—only to need a hospital transfer for repair of a third-degree “starfish” tear. With her third, Diana prepared for another home birth and experienced her dream waterbirth VBAC with no tearing at all. While Diana's third birth was physically healing, she faced unexpected emotional struggles afterward. She opens up about her experience with postpartum anxiety and depression, reminding us that healing is not only physical, but mental and emotional too. This episode brings important awareness to postpartum mental health and the resources available for support. Julie and Diana discuss the importance of community, professional help, and breaking the silence around postpartum mood disorders. If you had an unexpectedly tough recovery after your VBAC, know that you are not alone!
