This Mommywood recut might be one of the most honest conversations we've had.Actor and EmotionAL Support podcast host Alessandra Torresani and I actually met while walking our babies in the neighborhood — and quickly realized we were in the exact same stage of new motherhood. In this episode we talk about:• postpartum recovery and mental health• birth stories and expectations vs reality• auditioning during pregnancy and weeks after giving birth• self tapes with a baby at home• pressure on women in the entertainment industry to “time” a family• why finding other moms is essential• learning to let go of perfectionFunny, vulnerable, and reassuring, this conversation is for anyone trying to balance a creative career and motherhood — or just trying to survive the newborn phase.

Roxanne welcomes Sadie to share her first birth and postpartum experience. Sadie prepared for an unmedicated birth through extensive education (birth courses, daily podcasts/YouTube), movement/pelvic biomechanics work, breathing/hypnobirthing, and practicing counterpressure with her husband- inspiring her to later train as a doula! She chose a low-intervention hospital option in Utah called “Simply Birth,” which includes tubs and doesn't admit until 5 cm. Sadie describes her birth in great detail, as well as postpartum recovery with a second-degree perineal tear and a minor periurethral tear. Postpartum, the hardest parts were tear healing (first two weeks), fear around bathroom trips, and breastfeeding challenges (shallow latch, supply dip after 4 weeks, stress about low weight percentile, some pumping/supplementing with donated milk). Her key advice: don't let others' opinions derail your birth goals, and use education to build confidence and reduce fear.00:00 Podcast Welcome00:53 Meet Sadie01:06 Pregnancy Prep Research03:54 Choosing Birth Setting06:36 Confidence Through Education08:41 Labor Story Begins09:40 Membrane Sweep And Prep11:18 Early Labor At Home18:18 Heading To Hospital19:02 Simply Birth Admission20:27 Supportive Nurse And Tub23:30 Water Break Decision28:11 Transition Intensity30:49 Ready To Push33:42 Pushing And Nausea34:32 Nurse Support Pushing35:44 Positions And Coaching39:20 Fast Crowning Delivery42:26 Cord Placenta And Tears45:32 Stitches And Golden Hour54:33 Postpartum Breastfeeding Challenges58:19 Healing Diastasis And Care Gaps01:03:21 Next Birth Plans Advice01:04:44 Final Takeaways Thanks

Gold medals and car seats can share the same backseat. We reflect on a Winter Games filled with mothers who didn't just compete—they redefined what pregnancy and postpartum training can look like at the highest level. From Alana Myers-Taylor and Kaillie Humphries medaling in their 40s to athletes navigating IVF and still delivering peak performances, we explore how these stories shift public perception, shape clinical guidance, and give active moms permission to chase strength without apology. We walk through why elite examples matter for everyday training—not because you should copy their programs, but because their visibility attracts research and funding that replace rigid rules with nuanced, evidence-informed care. You'll hear how tools like the FIFA postpartum decision aid move us beyond arbitrary timelines and into personalized return-to-sport plans anchored in body readiness, symptom response, and context. We unpack relative intensity, show how a 20-hour week can responsibly scale to 15 for an Olympian, and translate that thinking to the recreational lifter who just wants to squat, run, and feel like herself again. We also get tactical: clear screening questions to bring to your provider, practical ways to progress without flaring symptoms, and a simple bracing cue—“hug your baby”—that connects breath, core, and confidence. Along the way, we honor the village behind these athletes and every parent balancing loading pins and lunchboxes. If you're an active mom or coach seeking a roadmap that respects healing and ambition, this conversation brings clarity, encouragement, and tools you can use today. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who lifts, and leave a quick review to help more moms find confident, evidence-based training.___________________________________________________________________________Don't miss out on any of the TEA coming out of the Barbell Mamas by subscribing to our newsletter You can also follow us on Instagram and YouTube for all the up-to-date information you need about pelvic health and female athletes. Missing who she was before. Loving this stage and grieving her old life at the same time.I also share a self-care shift I call the “Parallel You” check-in; a small daily way to stay connected to your identity beyond survival mode motherhood. This episode is about sleep deprivation, mum guilt, postpartum emotions, and remembering that this season is just a small percentage of your life.If you feel like you're barely keeping your head above water right now, you're not failing. Gina (perinatal fitness trainer and birth doula) and Roxanne (certified nurse midwife) share the story of Roxanne's fourth “bonus baby,” Harvey, and the end of her pregnancy leading into a planned home birth. Roxanne describes weeks of waiting, prodromal labor, and trying to start labor on her due date (January 7) before Gina left for a pre-planned Disney Marathon trip; a cervical check showed she was 1 cm and “super thick,” and labor stalled. After midnight while Gina is away, Roxanne has a gush of fluid, then contractions quickly become consistent and stronger. She calls her midwife, her mom, and backup support, and uses comfort tools like a TENS unit, shower, a Pixie heating pad, and acupressure balls. She labors in the birth tub using different positions; the midwife tries calling Gina, but she doesn't answer. Roxanne's water breaks and Harvey is born quickly in the tub, with brief pushing and no long second stage.Postpartum, Roxanne reports no tearing, no hemorrhage, less bleeding than prior births, and an easier recovery; Harvey weighs 7 lb 13 oz. Check out our favorite products mentioned here:https://www.hopeandplum.co/MamasteFit20https://www.amazon.com/shop/mamastefit/list/3RPPT8UNHV3O7?ref_=aipsflisthttps://amzn.to/3OLZcRgWww.drinklmnt.com/mamastehttps://pixiecup.shop?aff=12: MAMASTEFIT (15% off plus free shipping)Baby TENS: http://babycaretens.com?afmc=10MAMASTEFITTENS (use 10MAMASTEFIT): https://tensforlabor.com/?ref=2Lovesteadycode: mamastefit for 10% offhttps://rstr.co/lovesteady/3500Acupressure balls: https://amzn.to/4apZIgk00:00 Welcome to MamasteFit + Harvey's Birth Story Teaser00:26 Meet the Hosts & What This Podcast Covers01:23 ‘Bonus Baby' Harvey: Mindset in the Final Weeks02:58 Social Media Updates, Opinions, and Staying Sane at 40 Weeks04:44 Babywearing Break: Ring Sling Favorites (Hope & Plum, Sakura Bloom)05:28 Physical Symptoms, Home Birth Prep & The Leaky Birth Pool Saga07:33 Prodromal Labor Starts: TENS Unit, Birth Prep Circuit, and Waiting Game09:16 Gina's Disney Trip Pressure: Trying to Kickstart Labor on Due Date16:09 Contractions Fizzle + Membrane Sweep Reality Check (1 cm, Thick Cervix)22:13 Disney Marathon Weekend Updates + ChatGPT Due-Date Predictions26:25 The Night It Turns Real: ‘Did I Pee or Did My Water Break?'29:58 Early Labor Escalates: Missed Texts, Calling the Midwife, Waking the House36:02 Support Arrives: Mom's Massage, Vocalizing, and Calling the Birth Team39:14 Early Labor Comfort Measures: Food, Shower & TENS39:48 Heating Pad Fiasco: Figuring Out the Pixie Cup Heater41:50 Joan Wakes Up: Sweet Toddler Support During Contractions42:47 Midwife Arrives & Birth Space Setup (Tub, Candles, Bracelet)45:33 Into the Birth Tub: Mermaid Pose & Finding the Rhythm48:44 Things Get Real: Pressure, Calling Gina & Water Breaks54:35 Pushing in the Pool: Fast Crowning and Harvey Is Born58:41 First Moments: Kids Meet Baby + Placenta & Post-Birth Care01:02:45 Gina Missed It: Disney Detour, Postpartum Support & Family Reactions01:09:09 Wrap-Up + Favorite Pregnancy & Labor Products (Affiliate Links)————Get Your Copy of Training for Two on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3VOTdwH

Postpartum Complications in Dogs: Dr. Marty's Whelping Survival Guide Whelping doesn't always end with a tidy pile of healthy puppies and a relaxed, glowing mama dog. Host Laura Reeves is joined by our favorite best friend in veterinary medicine, Dr. Marty Greer, to walk through the most common (and most dangerous) postpartum complications breeders face — from retained puppies and metritis to mastitis, eclampsia, and even the terrifying “SIPS” bleeding that shows up weeks later. If you've ever had a bitch crash after delivery… or you're hoping you never will… this is the episode that helps you stay calm, prepared and ready to act fast. The conversation begins with one of the biggest preventable tragedies: retained puppies. Dr. Greer emphasizes the importance of a properly timed puppy-count x-ray (day 55–60) and shares practical tips for improving accuracy, including using digital x-ray equipment, taking two views, and ensuring the bitch has an empty stomach and colon before imaging. Her bottom line is simple: know your count — and don't go to bed if you're missing a puppy. From there, Marty and Laura tackle early postpartum red flags, including aggression toward puppies, which can be linked to low calcium. They discuss proactive tools like calcium gel during labor (not before), pheromone support collars, and the surprisingly effective trick of saving placental fluids after a C-section to help “switch on” maternal behavior once puppies get home. Next up: poor milk production, dehydration, and what to do when a bitch simply won't lactate. Dr. Greer shares her go-to strategies — from metoclopramide and OxyMama to boosting fluid intake with creative options like starter mousse mixed into water. And yes… even bratwurst makes an appearance as a lactation hack that longtime breeders swear by. The episode also dives into the “big three” postpartum medical complications: metritis, mastitis, and eclampsia. Dr. Greer explains what to watch for, why fever is never something to ignore, and why antibiotics should always be vet-directed — not pulled from leftover bottles in the cabinet. Finally, Marty demystifies normal postpartum discharge (lochia) versus SIPS (sub-involution of placental sites), a dramatic but usually benign bleeding episode that can happen around eight weeks after delivery. If you...

Many expecting mothers skip past information about postpartum mood changes, assuming it won't apply to them. Especially when they're anticipating one of life's happiest moments and have no history of depression. But baby blues and postpartum depression are common complications of birth that deserve attention during pregnancy, not after symptoms appear. The statistics are striking: baby blues affect 50-80% of new mothers, while one in seven experiences postpartum depression. Research also shows postpartum depression rates have been climbing over recent decades, making this information more relevant than ever. This episode covers how to identify symptoms of baby blues versus postpartum depression, where and how to get help, and evidence-based strategies you can use to protect your mental health during the postpartum period. Whether you have a history of depression or not, understanding these conditions empowers you to recognize warning signs early and take action when it matters most. Send a textI know I was supposed to put a fresh episode out this week but, as I explain in the intro, it's been a bugger of a week as my belved Yorkie suddenly took a turn for the worse and uunfortunately didn't make it.So, in short, I didnt feel like doing a fresh episode and will do one again next weekFrom Christmas 2024!!I had a wonderful email from someone in Mexico asking me the, seemingly straightforward, "When will I know my diastasis is healed?" so in this episode I spend 30 minutes answering that very question. The issue with this question is that diastasis recti has a specific definition (one that isn't wide enough, in my opinion) and therefore quite often women get told that their diastasis is "healed" when it actually really isn't.And you can also have the situation where the diastasis (the gap) isn't actually much of an issue anymore but, technically, you still have it.So today I'm clearing it all up, whether you're an athlete or not. Whether you're into hill walking or a pro-tennis player..all will be clear :)  As always; HPNB only has 5 billing cycles. So this means that you not only get 3 months FREE access, no obligation! BUT, if you decide you want to do the rest of the program, after only 5 months of paying $10/£8 a month you now get FREE LIFE TIME ACCESS! That's $50 max spend, in case you were wondering. Today's episode is a special one. I got to sit down in person with Tristin Colley, formerly known as Tristin Van Ord, for a conversation that felt personal, honest, and really meaningful. Tristin is a professional marathoner, a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier, and currently pregnant with her first child, a baby girl due this April. She made her marathon debut in 2019 running 2:40 and has steadily worked her way down to a 2:25 personal best, a testament to her patience, belief, and long-term commitment to the sport. In this episode, Tristin and I talk about the many transitions she is navigating right now. From stepping away from the ZAP Endurance program following its recent closure, to moving with her husband Andrew to Raleigh, to entering motherhood while still holding big goals as a professional runner. She shares what this waiting season has looked like, emotionally and practically, as she explores sponsorship opportunities and imagines her return to racing post-baby. We also talk about the USATF Foundation Maternity Grant, which Tristin was awarded, and what it means to feel supported during pregnancy while continuing to identify as a professional athlete with unfinished business. One of the most fun parts of this episode is that Tristin received surprise messages of encouragement from Sara Vaughn, Kara Goucher, and Stephanie Bruce. These moments add so much heart to the conversation and reflect the deep support within the women's running community. I'm cheering so hard for Tristin, and truly believe that any brand would be lucky to have her on their team. Topics We Cover Tristin's progression from a 2:40 marathon debut to a 2:25 personal best Training adjustments and mindset shifts during pregnancy Navigating uncertainty after the closure of ZAP Endurance What it means to stay committed to elite running while becoming a parent The USATF Foundation Maternity Grant and why it matters Postpartum racing goals and long-term belief in development The emotional side of waiting seasons in professional sport Community support and encouragement from fellow elite runners Recording in person and how that changes the conversation Media & Mentions Support our Sponsors: Geist Half Race Series Go to geisthalf.com and use the code “Another26” for $10 off any race distances. As BMIs and weights increase across the US population, there have been increased calls for universal screening for existing DM at entrance to prenatal care, if under 20 weeks. Others, including the ACOG, prefer to screen early those with additional risk factors (like prior GDM HX, prior macrosomia, BMI >30, PCOS, first degree relative with diabetes, or age >40). In July 2024, the ACOG released its publication, “Screening for Gestational and Pregestational Diabetes in Pregnancy and Postpartum”. In this guidance, it states, “At this time, there are insufficient data to support the best screening modality for pregestational diabetes in pregnancy, but consideration can be made to use the same diagnostic criteria as for the nonpregnant population (A1c value 6.5 or higher, or fasting plasma glucose value 126 mg/dL or higher, or 2-hour plasma glucose value 200 mg/dL or higher during a 75-g OGTT, or random plasma glucose value 200 mg/dL or higher in patients with classic hyperglycemia symptoms)”. However, a new proposed protocol has been published in AJOG for early screening for DM in pregnancy. This also describes the differences in diagnosis and care for Standard GDM diagnosed at 24-28 weeks, vs a diagnosis of pregestational DM diagnosis made prior to 20-weeks vs “early” GDM also diagnosed under 20 weeks of gestation. Taylor said it best — “I was the chosen one, I was the eldest daughter.” And every eldest daughter everywhere felt that in her bones. In this episode, Sarah and Whitney dive into what it really means to grow up as the responsible one — the fixer, the peacekeeper, the emotional glue — and how those patterns quietly follow us into adulthood and motherhood. From perfectionism and control to guilt when we finally rest, we're unpacking it all. You'll laugh, nod, and maybe cry a little as we talk about how to stop carrying everything and start letting yourself be cared for, too. Because you don't have to earn your worth by holding it all together.
