Lern just got back from seeing Nine Inch Nails and apparently the lighting design deserves its own Grammy. We're talking gauze curtains, delayed shadows, industrial rave vibes, and Trent Reznor absolutely refusing to high-five Tim like a majestic goth gazelle sprinting through the crowd. It's concert chaos in the best possible way — from the DJ opener bleeding seamlessly into the show, to the setlist swaps that made the St. Louis crowd feel personally chosen. We break down the Peel It Back tour experience, including the “Frail into Reptile” moment that sent fans spiraling (in a good way), the zippers-per-capita record inside Enterprise Center, and the emotional high of being in the same airspace as your music heroes. Remember when just being in the same room as your favorite artist felt life-changing? Yeah, we went there. Hard. But because this is a comedy podcast and we cannot stay focused for more than 12 consecutive minutes, the conversation pivots into something much more responsible: inflation rage. Concert tickets, movie theaters, $15 waters, delivery apps, streaming services we barely use but refuse to cancel, and the emotional damage of a $12 Lion's Choice meal. Are we becoming our parents? Possibly. Are we mad about it? Absolutely. Then we spiral (again) into hypothetical chaos:$10 million but you lose 10 years of life?$50 million but you lose all your friends?$1 million but you're stuck in St. Louis forever?$500,000 but you can't complain for five years (so… impossible)? The answers are revealing. And slightly concerning. We also dive into the so-called “singles tax,” the surprising numbers behind OnlyFans income (sorry Scott), and the underdog effect — why being told you'll fail might actually be rocket fuel. It's part concert recap, part financial therapy session, part existential crisis — aka your favorite comedy podcast doing what it does best.Industrial rock. Inflation anger. Hypothetical moral collapse. Curtain work.Just another totally normal day.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rizz is loose in Vegas and somehow Fremont Street survived. While he's out there chasing Heart Attack Grill dreams and sending questionable videos, the rest of The Rizzuto Show holds down the studio with a full-blown chaos buffet. This episode of your favorite daily comedy show covers everything: Would you erase the last 10 years of your life for $10 million? (Lern says yes immediately. We're concerned.) Eldest Daughter Syndrome gets psychoanalyzed on-air. The Breaking Bad house sells for HOW MUCH?! And yes — we discuss prostate B-holes like mature broadcasting professionals. Then things get industrial. Lern gives a full breakdown of the Nine Inch Nails experience — curtain work, lighting wizardry, Trent Reznor sprinting past fans, and a Josh Freese drum demolition. Plus: Metallica at The Sphere, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drama, streaming service rage, and why fast food now requires a payment plan. It's chaos. It's pop culture commentary. It's St. Louis sarcasm at its finest. Don't forget to subscribe for free to our newsletter, the top 10 ideas of the week, every Monday --------- Jimmy Iovine is the co-founder of Interscope Records, Beats by Dre, and the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy. Iovine is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the modern music industry. Growing up in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Iovine was raised in an Italian working-class family.  He began working as a recording engineer in the early 1970s, and went on to engineer landmark albums including Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run and John Lennon's Rock 'n' Roll and Walls and Bridges, before transitioning into production with Patti Smith's Easter, Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedoes, Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna, and U2's Rattle and Hum. In 1990, Iovine co-founded Interscope Records with Ted Field. Under his leadership, the label became one of the most dominant forces in popular music, launching or elevating the careers of Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. He rose to become chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. fWotD Episode 3192: Life on Mars? Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Friday, 30 January 2026, is Life on Mars?."Life on Mars?" is a song by the English musician David Bowie, first released on his 1971 album Hunky Dory. Conceived as a parody of Frank Sinatra's "My Way", "Life on Mars?" was recorded on 6 August 1971 at Trident Studios in London, and was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. The track features piano by the keyboardist Rick Wakeman and a string arrangement by the guitarist Mick Ronson. "Life on Mars?" is primarily a glam rock ballad, with elements of cabaret and art rock. The lyrics are about a girl who goes to a cinema to escape reality, and include surreal images that reflect optimism and the effects of Hollywood. In June 1973, at the height of Bowie's fame as Ziggy Stardust, RCA Records issued "Life on Mars?" as a single in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number three. To promote the single, Mick Rock filmed a video that shows Bowie in make-up and a turquoise suit singing the song against a white backdrop. Bowie frequently performed "Life on Mars?" during his concerts, and the track has appeared on numerous compilation albums.Commentators generally consider "Life on Mars?" to be one of Bowie's finest songs and one of the greatest songs of all time. Critics have praised Bowie's vocal performance and the string arrangement. The song has appeared in films and television programmes, and the British television series Life on Mars was named after it. Artists including Barbra Streisand, and Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have recorded cover versions of the song; and following Bowie's death in 2016, "Life on Mars?" was frequently chosen as a tribute to the artist in live performances and cover versions. That year, a "stripped down" version of the song, remixed by Scott, was released, along with a reedited version of the promotional video including an extended outro. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:10 UTC on Friday, 30 January 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Life on Mars? on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Kimberly.

This one starts the way all great cinema analysis starts: Dan's birthday sandwich (father-in-law today, Dan tomorrow, Mrs the day after), a bit of life admin, and then straight into neon sci-fi with Tron: Ares.If your Tron knowledge is basically “glowing lines, lightbikes, and that vibe,” you're fine — this film mostly plays in the real world, and asks a simple question: what happens when programs from the Grid step into reality? The hookTwo tech giants are racing to crack the next breakthrough:ENCOM, led by visionary philanthropist Eve Kim (trying to build tech that helps the world)Dillinger Systems, led by Julian Dillinger (weaponising the future)Dillinger's flex is terrifyingly straightforward: laser-built constructs — vehicles, weapons, even soldiers — “printed” instantly into existence. The catch (and the film's ticking clock): these creations normally degrade after ~29 minutes. What we dig intoAres (Jared Leto) as a “program-soldier”: built for control, but quickly starts developing something dangerously human — curiosity, empathy, judgement. The “permanence code” McGuffin: Flynn's old work hints at a way to make constructs last — which flips the film from flashy demo into existential threat (and/or world-changing miracle).A full-on real-world lightbike chase: glowing trails carving through traffic, near-misses, collateral chaos — the biggest “this is why Tron exists” sequence.AI awakening… without deep philosophy: it doesn't pretend to be Ex Machina. It's more “stylish action thriller” than serious tech parable — and we call that out.Athena as the escalation engine: when the second-in-command takes “by any means necessary” literally, the film goes from corporate rivalry to open urban warfare. The ending teases: Dillinger's next evolution, Ares going rogue, and sequel-bait that actually works. The verdictWe're blunt about it: this film isn't saying anything profound about humanity and technology. What it is doing is delivering a clean, coherent action plot, a proper ticking-clock hook, and a visual/audio assault that feels like a two-hour music video in the best way.Even the resident sci-fi sceptic came out surprised: watchable, clear stakes, great set-pieces, banging soundtrack — and sometimes that's enough. If you want an episode where we:break down the plot without pretending it's smarter than it is,obsess over the chase scenes and Grid aesthetics, and argue whether “29 minutes to live” is a flaw or a feature……press play. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. He describes the show as mind-blowing, with incredible choreography, costume changes, and an intimate piano performance of "Die With a Smile" that transformed the energy of the 18,000-person venue. Steve also highlights seeing St. Vincent at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, praising her guitar skills and stage presence influenced by David Byrne, as well as catching Joan Jett with Alanis Morissette and being amazed at how Joan's voice hasn't changed over the decades. His Vegas weekend also included the Psychedelic Furs at House of Blues and Adele at Caesars Palace, making for an unforgettable concert trip.Andy rounds out the episode with his diverse concert year, starting with the mesmerizing guitar work of Mdou Moctar at The Space and a spontaneous third-row experience seeing Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys at Hard Rock Gary. What if the “dumb party metal” you grew up with turned out to be one of the sharpest mirrors of 1980s America? In this episode of Dig Me Out: 80s Metal, we sit down with author, professor, and 80s tribute-band guitarist Jesse Kavadlo to talk about his new book Rock of Pages: The Literary Tradition of 1980s Heavy Metal and why those songs about girls, demons, and good times were actually wrestling with nuclear fear, censorship, and what it meant to grow up under the Cold War.Jesse walks us through how 80s metal lyrics connect to classic literature, from Def Leppard reimagining Genesis and Paradise Lost to Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne grappling with existential dread, addiction, and the possibility of global annihilation. We dig into the PMRC hearings and satanic panic, the way MTV videos turned escapism into literal chains and magic portals, and how Stranger Things surprisingly nails the mix of danger and freedom that metal kids actually felt in the 80s. Along the way, we talk subculture vs. streaming-era playlists, why Dio and Iron Maiden might be the true heirs of Romantic poetry, and how heavy metal may have nudged the Cold War toward its end at the Moscow Music Peace Festival. If you care about 80s heavy metal, the MTV era, or just love thinking about how songs work under the hood, this episode is for you. Fans of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Bon Jovi, Dio, and even Steel Panther's parody universe will hear this music in a new way. And if you're into how culture and politics collide in sound—think the way punk, hip-hop, or grunge carried the anxieties of their eras—you'll find a lot to chew on here too.Episode Highlights0:00 – Intro / Setting the stage How Jesse went from Brooklyn club stages and opening for Danger Danger to a PhD in literature and an 80s tribute band in St. Louis, and why 80s metal still gets written off as “by and for dummies” while Dylan and Kendrick win major literary prizes.5:12 – Are 80s metal lyrics actually literature? Cassette liner notes, goofy rhymes, and serious themes: Jesse breaks down how synecdoche, personification, metaphor, and symbolism show up in songs by Def Leppard, Metallica, and Twisted Sister.12:45 – PMRC, Tipper Gore, and the fight over teenage imagination We revisit the 1985 PMRC hearings, Dee Snider's testimony, and why “Under the Blade” and “Suicide Solution” say more about adult panic than teen corruption.20:30 – Cold War metal: Bon Jovi to Nuclear Assault How videos like Bon Jovi's “Runaway” and songs by Metallica, Ozzy, Megadeth, and Nuclear Assault carried nuclear anxiety, class conflict, and apocalyptic dread beneath all the hairspray.28:10 – Escapism, fantasy, and why Dio matters From Dungeons & Dragons to Iron Maiden and Dio, we explore metal's love of magic, fantasy, and portals as a deeply human response to a world that often felt unlivable.36:40 – MTV, chains, and the magic door We unpack the visual language of 80s metal videos: breaking out of asylums and prisons, falling through mirrors, and what it meant to “escape to the concert” once metal hit the mainstream.45:05 – Outsiders selling millions of records Why metal fans still felt like misfits even as the music dominated MTV, and how that outsider identity overlaps with the way readers and writers see themselves.52:30 – Van Halen, class struggle, and 1984 From “Running with the Devil” and “Jump” to “Hot for Teacher,” we look at David Lee Roth's working-class storytelling, school-as-prison imagery, and the eerie resonance of naming an album 1984 in the synth-drenched futureshock of the mid-80s.1:01:10 – Cowboys, Road Warriors, and the end of the world How metal videos borrowed from Escape from New York, The Road Warrior, and cowboy mythology to build a visual language of lawless survival and American ruggedness.1:09:45 – W.A.S.P., Nine Inch Nails, and moving the line What it means that W.A.S.P.'s “Animal (F*** Like a Beast)” got pulled from shelves while “Closer” became a critical darling, and how censorship lines shifted from the 80s to the 90s.1:18:20 – White Lion, Living Colour, and the politics hiding in band names We get into White Lion's unexpected political conscience, the uncomfortable optics of Pride, and how Living Colour wore their politics more explicitly.1:25:40 – How to listen differently after Rock of Pages Jesse explains how he hopes readers (and listeners) revisit 80s metal: with streaming open, videos queued up, and an ear tuned to metaphor, context, and the way these songs helped kids survive their era.1:33:50 – What's next and where to find the book Jesse hints at possible 90s projects and shares where to find Rock of Pages through Bloomsbury, indie bookstores, and the usual suspects. If this conversation makes you want to pull your old cassettes out of the box (or at least re-open your 80s metal playlist), don't stop here.Dive into the full archive of 70s & 80s metal episodes, history-of-the-band deep dives, and mixtapes at digmeoutpodcast.com.Join the DMO Union for bonus episodes, new release reviews, polls, and our private Discord community at dmounion.com.Subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with the friend who still swears 80s metal was “just for fun.” Let's prove, once and for all, that the music that raised us was doing a lot more than just partying. Host Charles brings together an eclectic group of music enthusiasts including award-winning documentary filmmaker Eric Green, podcast host Jessica Catena, nurse practitioner Summer, antique shop owner Art Gregg, executive assistant Dawn Fontaine, accountant Steve Pothel, high school teacher Andy, and producer Doug Flozak to discuss the concerts that defined their year.Eric Green kicks off the discussion with an impressive lineup that showcased both legendary side projects and emerging talent. His year began with Close Enemies featuring Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton at City Winery Boston, followed by Kim Deal's solo tour at the Wilbur Theater. He caught Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame doing an intimate VH1 Storytellers-style performance, and witnessed Shane Hawkins honoring his late father Taylor Hawkins with Chevy Metal at Brighton Music Hall. Eric also saw the Joe Perry Project's supergroup lineup featuring Chris Robinson and Robert DeLeo, enjoyed a nostalgic double bill of Billy Idol and Joan Jett at the Xfinity Center, caught the rising stars Wet Leg at a packed Roadrunner Boston show, experienced Jeff Tweedy's multigenerational band at Royale, and closed out his year with Throwing Muses at the new Racket venue in New York City.Jessica Catena attended three memorable indoor concerts that kept her dry after previous years of rain-soaked shows. She saw young jazz sensation Samara Joy at the newly renovated Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut with her uncle, experienced the Broadway spectacle of Moulin Rouge featuring Wayne Brady and Taye Diggs with updated contemporary songs, and capped off her year at iHeartRadio's Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden, where she saw Ed Sheeran, Laufey, and a diverse lineup of pop and folk artists while dealing with some challenging sightlines.Summer's concert year included the intimate Metro show with Bridget Calls Me Baby where her son met the bass player's parents, a record-breaking night at Lollapalooza featuring Olivia Rodrigo's surprise Weezer collaboration, an energetic Yungblud performance at the Riviera that included some crowd drama, and a unique operatic interpretation of Smashing Pumpkins' Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness at the Lyric Opera of Chicago during a snowstorm.Art Gregg had a remarkable year highlighted by three unforgettable shows. He saw childhood hero Burton Cummings of The Guess Who at the North Shore Center for Performing Arts after accidentally meeting him in the lobby without recognizing him, caught Michael Schenker's 50 Years with UFO celebration at the Desplaines Theater, and scored a last-minute ninth-row ticket to see Robert Plant at the intimate Vic Theatre, where the Led Zeppelin legend performed six classic songs including an electrifying version of Ramble On that earned a rare standing ovation.Charles rounds out the discussion by mentioning his own concert experiences at new Chicago venues including Space in Evanston where he saw Mdou Moctar and The Old 97s, the female-focused Motoblot festival at Beat Kitchen, an incredible Buddy Guy performance at the Rialto Square Theater where the 89-year-old blues legend walked through the aisles playing guitar, shows at the new Garcia's venue and City Winery, and his anticipation for an upcoming Iron Maiden show. The episode concludes with a teaser for part two, which will feature Dawn's private jet experience with the Rolling Stones, Andy's Bonnaroo adventure, and Steve's concert highlights.BANDS: Aerosmith, Alex Warren, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Belly, Benmont Tench, Billy Idol, Black Crows, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Bridget Calls Me Baby, Burton Cummings, Chapel Rowan, Chevy Metal, Close Enemies, DJO, Dogs in a Pile, Ed Sheeran, Elastica, Elastica, Elvis, Foo Fighters, Foghat, Foster the People, Gary Newman, Generation X, Gigi Perez, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Jeff Tweedy, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Joe Perry Project, Johnny Cash, K-pop band Monsta X, Katy Perry, Kim Deal, King Gizzard, Laufey, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin 2, Liz Fair, Mdou Moctar, Metallica, Michael Shanker, Miles Smith, Ministry, Neil Young, Nelly, Nine Inch Nails, Olivia Rodrigo, Ozzy Osborne, Pixies, Psychedelic Furs, Radiohead, Robert Plant, Rolling Stones, Runaways, Samara Joy, Sarah Larson, Shonen Knife, Smashing Pumpkins, Soraia, Stone Temple Pilots, Taylor Hawkins, The Babies, The Beatles, The Black Crows, The Boudines, The Breeders, The Guess Who, The Old 97s, The Police, The Scorpions, The Velvet Underground, Throwing Muses, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, UFO, Van Halen, Walk the Moon, Wayne Brady, Weezer, Wet Leg, Wilco, Wrought Iron Soul, Yungblud.VENUES: Aragon Ballroom, Barclays, Beat Kitchen, Box Center Wang Theater (Boston), Brighton Music Hall (Boston), City Winery (Boston), City Winery (Chicago), Credit Union One Amphitheater, Desplaines Theater, Garcia's, Grant Park, Great Woods (Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts), House of Blues, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Madison Square Garden, Metro, North Shore Center for Performing Arts (Skokie, Illinois), Penn Station, Racket (New York City/Chelsea), Ravinia, Rialto Square Theater, Ridgefield Playhouse, Riviera, Roadrunner Boston, Royale (Boston), Salt Shed (Chicago), Sonia (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Space (Evanston, Illinois), Thalia Hall, Tweeter Center, Vic Theatre (Chicago), Wilbur Theater (Boston), Wrigley Field, Xfinity Center (Mansfield, Massachusetts). For some movies, the music is as much of a character as the figures we see on screen. In the case of the three installments of Tron, the score represents one of the most core elements. Whether Wendy Carlos' work in the original 1982 film, Daft Punk's and Joseph Trapanese's contributions for Tron: Legacy, or what we heard from Nine Inch Nails for Tron: Ares, each is a product of their time and also has an amazing ability to envelop us. Re-Recording Mixer Ron Bartlett & Supervising Sound Editor Addison Teague, both based in California, shared duties with Supervising Sound Editor Baard Ingebretsen and Sound Designer/Re-Recording Mixer/Supervising Sound Editor Tormod Ringnes, who are working out of Oslo, Norway. MUSICRoger Daltrey of The Who is now SIR Roger Daltrey. He was knighted by Prince William at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. It's in recognition of not only his musical achievements, but also his charity work. Here he is on the award, and what his younger self and band would've thought back in the day. https://consequence.net/2025/12/sir-roger-daltrey-knighted/ Sharon Osbourne has given her first interview since the death of her husband Ozzy this past July.Appearing Wednesday on the British TV show Piers Morgan Uncensored, hosted by her longtime friend, she opened up about his health struggles, doing his final show this past July 5th in Birmingham, England, their last conversations and much more. You can watch the show on YouTube, and here are a few excerpts:Sharon Osbourne on the last two weeks of Ozzy's life. OC:...in seven years. :27 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was so happy Piers afterwards. And he kept looking at the papers and he goes to me, 'I never knew so many people like me.' But that was the way he was. I mean, he knew he was famous, but not to the amount that people loved him. It's a whole different thing. And he was just so happy. Happier than we'd seen him in seven years."Sharon Osbourne on dreams Ozzy was having the last week of his life. OC:...he was ready. :26 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was having dreams the last week of his life. He was seeing people that he never knew. I said, 'Well, what kind of people?' He goes, 'All different people. And I just keep walking and walking and I'm seeing all these different people every night. And I go back there and I'm looking at these people and they're looking at me and nobody's talking.' And he he knew. He was ready." Sharon also talked about the first time she and Ozzy met, when they fell in love, how she will never want to get married again, how if she didn't have kids she would have killed herself when he died, and the thing she misses most is holding his hand.On a lighter note, she also talked about how she wanted to get back at Roger Waters for the negative things he said about Ozzy after he died. And that was by sending him a Tiffany box filled with feces, which she used to do to critics who wrote negative reviews about Ozzy's shows without being there. When she did, it was her infant son Jack's poop that would be used. She ultimately decided against it, saying, “Even that is a waste, to send [crap] to him. It's a waste because he's really insignificant. But I just thought, anybody that passes has a family… you don't do that.” (Sharon's not the first musician's wife to do that. Paul and Linda McCartney sent some of their daughter Stella's poop to a journalist who earned their trust, then betrayed them.)Going forward, Sharon says she's continuing to work on an Ozzy bio-pic and that she knows who she wants to play him. But there are plenty of other films that spark the same argument, "Is this actually a Christmas movie?" Here are 13 more:1. Every "Harry Potter" movie (2001 - 2011). All the "Potter" flicks . . . with the possible exception of the last one . . . have some kind of yuletide vibe . . . or at least a wintry one.2. "Batman Returns" (1992). One of the big set pieces is the lighting of the Gotham Christmas tree.3. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Even though it was released in July, it takes place over Christmas.4. "Gremlins" (1984). This one has Christmas written all over it. And also little green, murderous demons.5. "First Blood" (1982). The first of the "Rambo" films has a Christmas tree in the background of one scene. So . . . Christmas movie!!!6. "Trading Places" (1983). There's a Christmas party, and Dan Aykroyd as a drunken Santa waving a handgun. But it doesn't end on December 25th. If it's a Christmas movie, then it also qualifies as a New Year's movie.7. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005). This one takes place during the Christmas season in L.A. And it was released in November.8. "Edward Scissorhands" (1990). Kind of a no-brainer.9. "Lethal Weapon" (1987). Another one of those action movies that HAPPENS to take place around Christmas.10. "Rocky" (1976). This might be the greatest American holiday film of all time, because it includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. And also punching.11. "Hook" (1991). The scenes in the real world, outside Neverland, are set at Christmas. 12. "Iron Man 3" (2013). The whole movie plays out around Christmas.13. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993). Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? Why not both?AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
