Jesus' parable shows that the kingdom of God exists within a world still filled with evil. The wheat (believers) and weeds (unbelievers) look similar for a time, but God knows the difference and will sort them at the final harvest. Until then, Christians must coexist wisely—aware of Satan's designs, grounded in Scripture, committed to God's mission, discerning about false faith, honest about their own spiritual condition, and practicing Christlike love even toward the unlovable. The kingdom is present but not yet complete, quietly growing as God works in human hearts. Ultimately, God—not us—will bring perfect justice and separation.

BEFORE MAN WAS CREATED, Satan had already rebelled and taken countless angels with him. How many angels and how long before, we don't know. Tragically, the insurrection spread from heaven to earth. At Satan's enticement, the first man and woman defied their Maker, bringing destruction and death upon this new race which God had created in His image.This mutiny had not caught God by surprise but was proceeding exactly as He had foreknown. He was still on the throne of the universe. How could man rebel against God's absolute authority? Clearly, God had sovereignly given man the ability to submit to Him willingly in love. The ability to say yes, however, was meaningless without the equal ability to say no. Thus, the door God opened to loving submission could be slammed shut in willful revolt—as Adam and Eve had done.Some Christians suggest that God willed for Adam and Eve to break His commandment not to eat of the tree of knowledge. Yet sin of any kind is contrary to God's will. He must therefore have allowed sin to enter this world in order to further His ultimate purpose for mankind, all of whom He loves with an infinite love—the only kind of love that God, who is love, bestows.

Parsha ‘Ekev’ (Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25) not only continues Moses’ ‘Farewell Address’ but some of the themes which permeate the Torah of YHVH: the repeated admonition to “hear and obey,” and KEEP His “commandments, judgments, and statutes,” and how that is inseparable from “love Him,” with all our “heart and soul.” But the other element that is just as vital, but far more overlooked, is the prohibition against “idolatry.” Trouble is, most of the ‘whore church’ no longer has a clue what that means. Not that He isn’t clear. So that, by the plain course of the words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against all storms and floods, like the wise builder, [Matt 7:24-25].[18] "The gates of hell": That is, the powers of darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents. For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress, the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry, heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail over the church of Christ.[19] "Loose upon earth": The loosing the bands of temporal punishments due to sins, is called an indulgence; the power of which is here granted.The Church venerates on this day in the basilica of St Peter "ad vincula" on Mount Esquiline at Rome, the chains with which the prince of the apostles was fettered.

Watch the Devotion Based on Ephesians 1:4-6 You Are Chosen  At the time of this recording, I first learned the names of the four US Soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country: Sgt. Michael Swinton, Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, Pfc. Isabella Gonzales.   Combat, war, death, physical wounds, the unseen wounds of trauma and moral injury—these are all evidence of the presence of the devil at work in our world, and the influence of sin on the hearts of sinful people who want to kill and destroy.   During times like this, you wonder, and you ask God questions, “How am I to trust you when there is no guarantee that I will make it home from deployment in one piece or alive at all? How am I to trust you when I have prayed to come home, and we continue to be extended indefinitely? How am I to trust you when my loved one or friend is downrange and life is falling apart around me?”      When you wonder if God cares for you, when you question his love for you, when you believe Satan's lie that God is not capable to provide or protect you. . .then ask, “What does God say in times like this?”   Listen to these truths from the Apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves” (Ephesians 1:4-6).     Before God created the world, he decided in his heart that he would choose you to be saved. In time he made that election and calling certain at your baptism. Baptized in water and the Word, he adopted you into his family. You are his son or daughter, for now and for eternity. He did all of this in Christ, that is, because of what Jesus Christ has done for you. He was blameless and holy for you. He shed his blood for you. He loved you. And so, God chose you in Christ.  War and combat, injury of mind and soul, grief and sorrow, not even death can change this truth: You are chosen in Christ. Therefore, you are his son. You are his daughter. You are the object of his love, in life and in death.     Prayer: Father, your thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are your ways our ways. In your wisdom you have allowed the terrors of war to strike the families of these four Soldiers who died in service to our country. Do not let their sacrifice be in vain. Comfort those who grieve with the sure promise of the resurrection from the dead. Send your holy angels to protect our war fighters while they are training and actively engaged in combat. What was Jesus doing between His death and resurrection? It is one of the most overlooked questions in Christianity, yet Scripture gives us a clear and powerful answer. First Peter 3:18-22 walks through three things Christ accomplished during those days: His work on the cross, His activity in the grave, and His triumph in the resurrection. On the cross, Christ died once as our substitute. His sacrifice was not repeated or incomplete. He took our guilt upon Himself so that His righteousness could be credited to us, and He did it to bring us back to God. This is the heart of penal substitutionary atonement, and it is the foundation of the Christian faith. Between His death and resurrection, Christ descended and proclaimed victory to the fallen spiritual beings imprisoned since the days of Noah. This was not a second chance at salvation for anyone. It was a declaration of conquest. He also led the Old Covenant saints out of their place of waiting and into the presence of God, fulfilling what Ephesians 4:8 describes as leading a host of captives. In the resurrection, every angel, authority, and power was placed under His feet. The cross was meant by Satan to destroy Christ. Instead, it destroyed the power of the enemy. Hebrews 2:14-15 makes clear that through His death, Christ defeated the one who holds the power of death and freed all who were enslaved by the fear of it. Peter also connects all of this to baptism, the public oath of loyalty to the risen King. The early church understood baptism as an act of spiritual warfare, a bold declaration that Christ has won and that you are on His side.
