Growing grapes in a cold climate presents unique challenges that are often more about dealing with winter injury than the growing season itself. According to Dr. Kevin Ker from Brock University's Cool Climate Enology and Viticulture Institute, the temperatures outside the growing season are what set cold climate viticulture apart. Ensuring vines live for 25 years rather than just five to seven years involves strategies and practices specifically for harsh winter conditions. This episode is part one of our conversation with Dr. Ker. Listen in to learn about managing cold climate vineyards and cold damaged vines. In this episode, you will hear: How to establish a vineyard in cold climates and what the core principles of establishing a vineyard are Strategies for managing cold climate vineyards Impact of winter temperatures, growing degree days, and frost-free days on grape growing How to approach fertilization and nutrient management for cold climate vineyards Various pruning techniques and how they differ from warmer weather climates Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. If you're feeling: - Unloved, alone, invisible, like no one could care less about you, or will ever care less about you - You get triggered really easily by things like your friend's announcing their engagement, seeing your ex in a new relationship, comments your family makes about you still being single - Or it feels like what you're experiencing in your love life is only ever getting worse; like there are fewer and fewer decent men to date, if there are any at all, the dates you go on never seem to go anywhere and it's all feeling really hopeless Then what you're going to learn inside this episode as the power to change that all. You're going to learn: - What this first step in creating deep and transformational self-love is and what makes it so FREAIN' important - What you can expect to happen when you implement this step and it becomes your new way of being - And what exactly this means that you need to do PLUS I'll also be walking you through part of an insanely powerful practice that is going to give you some insanely powerful insights… I won't say much more because I don't want to ruin the fun!! Are you ready to use fear as an expander in your life? Most of us lean into fear as a contractor, having fear be the thing that holds us back from doing what we actually want to do. In this episode, Erin reframes how you can use fear to actually support you. This episode dives into the different ways fear shows up in your world, why it shows up, and if it will always be there or not. We talk about nervous system regulation and how fear shows up in the physical body. We also take it a bit further and go into how you can calm yourself at the moment when you're feeling fear and how to reprogram fear in your everyday life. We're all afraid of something. Some of the things we're afraid of we're aware of and some of the things we aren't. When we choose to work with our fears, we get to move towards our desires not only more consciously but with more intention and love. Through the lens of Human Design, fear is witnessed through the spleen. The spleen is a center with seven gates; these gates tell us our fear design. Erin dives into the seven gates or portals and all the ways they can show up in your chart and yourself. This episode is great for the woman on the edge of her seat who knows what she wants but is too afraid to lift her butt off the edge. I know this feeling and it's one I've taught myself to befriend (and continue to) and I would love to support you on that journey as well. Dillon Jones (@dillonthebiologist) is quickly becoming one of my favorite people. He's energetic, fun, and bursting with creative ideas for making conservation better, especially through technology. We talk about everything from using ziplines to survey turtles, decentralizing traditionally bureaucratic ways of doing science, using ecotourism and travel to benefit conservation, science misinformation and handling haters and trolls, the connection with geotagging and white supremacy (jk- there is none), and a whole host of other innovative topics. I'm not sure how he does it all – there's so much packed in here and I hope you glean something fresh and revolutionary from it! It's a long one for sure but most podcast apps give you the option to speed it up, so listen to the whole thing, mmk? It's worth it, trust me. :)And at the very end I talk about my idea for a field biology reality show, so: Nat Geo, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, if you're listening, hit me up. So much of what we make starts with materials we extract from the Earth. Some of these materials make up only a tiny proportion of our planet, but fortunately for us, they are concentrated in certain places, which makes it possible to extract them in economically viable quantities. So how exactly do these materials become concentrated? Lawrence Robb is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences at Oxford University. By analyzing the relationship between mineral deposits, principally in Africa and Asia, and our latest understanding of plate tectonics and mountain-building, he has unraveled the processes that formed some of our most important mineral deposits. We've all been there—the barrage of questions fired at you, the requests that go beyond what's reasonable, the phone calls every now and then on project updates. One of the biggest problems we all face at the start and middle of a project is dealing with our client's expectations. We just can't seem to put their worries and queries to rest. However, since they are making the biggest investment in their lives, it's unavoidable for them to want to hear feedback now and again. So what can you do to manage those expectations? Overcoming the communication barrier between client and tradie and understanding that they don't speak the same language that you do are key to handling your clients. And that's what we're here to discuss with Russ Stevens, Co-Founder of the Association of Professional Builders. With the internet changing people's ideas about entrepreneurship over the years, millions saw opportunities in starting their own business—most notably in the small business sector. How many of them pulled through? And in between the height of their business and the brink of closing down, do they ever get to measure the ‘shoulda-woulda-couldas' towards becoming better businessmen? Starting a business is one thing. Managing it is another. But management doesn't mean you look after every part of the business yourself. We have process-organising and systemisation for that. Most business owners know that not systemising is costly but just haven't given it the importance it so deserved. So what's the true cost of the failure or point-blank refusal to systemise? That's what we'll talk about in our first episode of the SYSTEMology - Create Time, Reduce Errors And Scale Your Profits series, with our guest, the author himself, David Jenyns. Any business who wants to deliver their services in a better way understands the need for them to have systems and processes in place. Most of the time we retain our clients and build long-term relationships when they see how efficient we are in giving them the service we promised. This holds true even in the solar power industry. In this week's podcast episode, we continue our conversation with Gareth Felton of GreenElec. Our topic is focused on the customer journey and the processes involved in setting up solar power in a commercial setting. Gareth also shares why it's important to build relationships with clients and how everyone in the industry would benefit from increasing the standards across the board. Further to this, Gareth visioned a company where customers can experience a centralised process of having their electrical, communications, home automation, solar energy, battery storage and home automation needs met. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength growing into a team of 13 staff who have achieved many of the goals Gareth has set for the company, including winning an award from the Master Electricians of Australia for Residential Project of the Year in 2014, 2017 and 2019. George Floyd's tragic death while in police custody has sparked outrage all over the country. Incidents like this shows the ongoing problem with racism and how it wreaks havoc in our lives especially in the black community. There is a need to speak up and to have conversations regarding racism and to start asking ourselves ‘What can I do to see change?'. This podcast episode is from one of my Facebook live sessions where I talk with women in The Menopause Movement community about racism and it's a really difficult conversation to have. Maybe some will ask, what does this problem have to do with menopausal women? Well, I'd say, a lot. I believe that we, menopausal women, have influence, we have a voice that we can use to educate and draw healthy conversations about this issue especially with the people that surround us like our children and grandchildren, co-workers, friends, etc. Our silence doesn't help at all. Domestic violence is real and reports saying that there is a decrease in cases is far from true. Why? Because victims are actually struggling in silence. Many women are trapped in a situation that they can't get out of easily. This shouldn't be just a fight of one, this should be our fight. What's important now is for us to not turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to what's happening but be sensitive and ready to take action when the situation calls for it. In this week's episode, Miki Sturges shares very important insights regarding the reality of domestic violence and how a lot of women are suffering especially during this pandemic. As a woman who experienced abuse herself, Miki talks about the signs of abuse, using codes to ask for help, how to plan an escape now, and the importance of rewiring your brain to get out of the victim mentality. If it's freedom you want or you want to help someone being abused, this is the episode for you. Living in a masculine-dominant society means that there's little focus on women's sexual pleasure. Emphasis is placed on how women can please men. As women, our well-being is tied to our sexual health. To take away pleasure is similar to cutting women off from their own lives. But when a woman is sexually empowered, she gets closer to becoming who she actually is. In the second installment of our sexual health series, we welcome back the Pleasure Witch, Julia Lally, who's here to talk about the ancient Taoist sexual wellness tool, the jade egg. We go over the bad rap associated with it and its use for strengthening the pelvic floor. Julia also talks about the power of sexual healing, the vagina as a consciousness, and castration. In the end, we find out the benefits of sexual opening. It's time to reclaim your sexual power. If you're curious how the jade egg can help you achieve greater pleasure, tune in to this episode now. If you are serious about protecting your business then the safeguarding of intellectual property, your brand, is one of the things you can start looking into (if you haven't) to protect it from any legal risks in the future. In this episode with Helen Kay, The Contracts Lawyer, we have an interesting and informative conversation regarding keeping one's intellectual property safe specifically by registering a trademark. Different people react to a crisis in different ways. Some look at the opportunities, while others become anxious and think it might be the end of the world. In times like these, we may find that people act differently from who they are at normal times. No one is perfect. But there are positive and negative sides to each person, and one way to figure out how a person will react is to look at their Enneagram. In this episode, we have back Enneagram expert Stephanie Davis. She and I talk about how different enneagram types are affected by this global reset. She tells us about the different harmonic triads and each enneagram types reaction to stress. If you're curious how people are responding to this crisis and how it relates to their Enneagram type, then jump in to this episode now. We often deal with trauma from our past by moving on. We move on without doing the work to deal with our issues, our pain. In this episode, Jill Romig talks about the journey she took to heal herself from her past to become the best version of herself. She also shares how positive affirmations can help you reach the success you desire. It is never too late. How is God glorified in the physical weakness of Christ?Amanda McCullers joins our series host, Natalee, to discuss the third topic of Advent: The Announcement. Christmas is not Jesus' birthday. Advent is not about anticipating the coming of a sweet new baby in a manger. Advent is a celebration of the coming of the eternal, infinite, God of the universe who fulfills His promise to redeem all of creation by coming Himself in human flesh as an infant. This series follows an outline that Paul Tripp created in his Advent Devotional: "Come Let Us Adore Him" to help us gain a better understanding and perspective of the Advent season.RESOURCES:Come, Let Us Adore Him: A Daily Advent Devotional - Paul David TrippGHCC Suggested Reading
