I read this book with absolute passion. While it is a novel, it is truly an epic—the story of a family told through the greatest upheavals and disasters of the 20th century. Although it is set in Greece, we Ukrainians can deeply relate to this story: a narrative where global events shape your life far more than your own plans. It is a novel about national conflicts and population displacements, fascism and communism, World War II, violence from all sides. It explores the trap of "revolutionary struggle," the dilemmas of duty versus life, and self-sacrifice versus human happiness. As a result, many new, positive, and unique ideas and opportunities are coming up unexpectedly to propel us even further into this new and better experience, which is making us feel very excited and hopeful.But even though many new ideas and opportunities are coming up, we either aren't acting on these opportunities at all, aren't acting on them fully, or are acting on them but in unhelpful ways — specifically ways that are too controlling, perfectionistic, or critical.As a result, we are not able to move forward more fully into a new and better experience of life. That then makes us feel stuck, frustrated, confused, and upset.However, we don't stay in this confused place for long. At this full moon in Sagittarius, we may suddenly get some very significant realizations about why we are stuck and are not fully embracing these new ideas and opportunities in the proper way.What we realize is that the reason why we are stuck is because our mindset is still stuck in the past — in particular, in the long, hard, big, and complex journey it took to get to this point. Because of that long journey, we now believe that everything else must also be long, hard, big, and complicated.We are overlooking these new ideas and opportunities because they are small, simple, and easy (unlike what we have experienced in the past). We are struggling to change our mindset, now that our situation has changed.And not only that, but we also realize that a big reason why our mindset is stuck in the past is because our emotions are also stuck in the past! We also have some uncomfortable emotions about what has occurred in the past that we haven't fully healed from or processed.And not only that, but we also realize that these two things — our mindset and our emotions — and intimately connected. One leads to the other and vice versa. They cannot be separated.This realization is very helpful, allowing us to better understand our situation. However, it doesn't get us entirely unstuck after this point.That is because diagnosing a problem is very different from actually fixing it. On March 16, 2022, the Russian army committed one of the gravest war crimes of its invasion of Ukraine. It dropped air bombs on the Mariupol Drama Theatre, knowing that around a thousand civilians were sheltering inside, seeking refuge from Russian shelling. It did so despite the huge inscriptions reading “Children” — written in Russian on both sides of the theatre — clearly visible from the air as a warning to any potential bomber. In this episode, we analyse this crime with the help of a journalist who spent several years speaking with dozens of survivors.
