After Diddy’s acquittal, social media decided it needed a villain. And who better than a random woman?! Through a case of mistaken identity, digital marketing strategist and former journalist Wynter Mitchell-Rohrbaugh, who had nothing to do with the trial, became the target of viral accusations and lies. In this episode, Wynter tells her story of how misinformation, speculation, and Internet outrage collided in real time to pull her into a social media storm, and she breaks down what it means for our broader digital media landscape. It's holiday time! That means you get a stocking stuffer worth of an episode -- a handful of topics we wanna chitchat about but aren't big enough for their whole episode (Is this how stockings work? Amanda is writing this). So, tune in for: we didn't get 30 under 30 because we didn't do fraud; what do Elon Musk, Luigi Mangione, and Isabel J. Kim have in common; 'Extremely kidpilled' Sam Altman; random tangents about baseball?; and Amanda's embarrassing temptation to buy an AI wearable. Also Isabel is on a train at one point. But at no point do either of us do fraud. If you're wondering, you can indeed hear the "secret sauce" on our Patreon.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Dave Chappelle sparks debate with his take on Charlie Kirk, calling him “just an internet guy,” but some argue Kirk's impact might even rival MLK.
In State of the Culture Pt. 1, the dynamic duo is back setting the tone and talking directly to the people. The conversation kicks off with gratitude for the listeners and a breakdown of why the show continues to grow—evergreen content over momentary trends. From reflecting on the success of the Diddy documentary breakdown to explaining why older episodes resurface and trend, Ern and Iso dig into what longevity in podcasting really looks like. The episode moves into a thoughtful discussion on public scrutiny, social media judgment, and accountability, using real-world examples to explore how visibility comes with both opportunity and backlash. The duo also touches on family, boundaries, and how the internet has changed the way people feel entitled to comment on others' lives.Later, the conversation lightens up with talk about Stranger Things, binge culture, and why watching something in real time versus years later creates completely different experiences. The episode wraps with Ern revisiting his thoughts on the Nas & DJ Premier album “Light Years”, clarifying his stance and engaging with listener feedback. As promised, this one is all over the place—but in the best way. Real talk, culture, music, media, and honest perspective all rolled into one.00:00 – Introduction & welcome back02:10 – Thanking listeners & Diddy documentary success04:30 – What “evergreen content” really means08:15 – Why old episodes start trending again12:05 – Social media judgment & public scrutiny17:40 – Accountability vs empathy in public life23:10 – Keeping family out of the spotlight28:45 – Internet culture & entitlement to opinions33:20 – Announcing Christmas live show & call-in plans36:50 – Stranger Things binge vs real-time watching45:30 – Shared viewing experiences & generational hype52:10 – Revisiting the Nas & DJ Premier “Light Years” album58:40 – Lyrics vs production debate & hip-hop nostalgia#StateOfTheCulture #ErnAndIso #PodcastTalk #HipHopCulture #EvergreenContent #MediaDiscussion #PodcastCommunity #CulturalCommentary #RealConversations #fyp #ernandiso4president

Kirk Cameron has generated quite the controversy with his views about annihilationism. Today, I'm here with Gavin Ortlund to discuss three primary questions: Is annihilationism heretical? Is this a slippery slope? How can we best respond? Gavin and I were both on Kirk's show recently and consider him a friend. We hope this helps advance the conversation. She's taken nearly all of technology's titans to task with a fearless, no-nonsense style. And speaking of arrests, our second/third topic is also about people committing crimes - first we revisit Brandon Dillard from A List Smiles Atlanta, who we covered over a year ago for his shockingly successful business as a “Veneer Tech” aka someone who does not have a dental degree or any certification that would allow him to be performing any dental procedures. It took a minute but thankfully he has been shut down, arrested, and is facing over 100 different counts that revolve around not only his veneer business - but also his veneer tech classes where he would teach others to do the same illegal procedures that he was doing. And while she was not one of his students, our third topic, a woman who goes by “EyeDoBracess” has embraced a similar career path, except in addition to veneers, she also does braces (as her username would suggest), as well as wigs and eyelashes! While you'd think the news of Brandon's arrest would have deterred her or at the very least, made her be a bit more discreet, that is not the case and she's not sure why everyone is so mad! 00:00 - Introduction 00:54 - Ash Trevino Gets Arrested 22:18 - ATL Veneer Tech Faces 113 Criminal Charges 33:15 - EyeDoBracess Insanity 59:37 - We Love the Internet We Love the Internets: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrGfMRtu/ https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrGfGXoR/ We hope you enjoyed this episode! Remember "Just One of the Guys"? Remember "Mrs. Doubtfire"? Remember your high school class ON "Twelfth Night"? Keep all those memories close and fond to your heart because "My Secret Santa" is about to try and steal the plot points from them all. In fact, we got so confused we'd routinely forget the name of this movie, constantly but not purposely referring to it as "Just One of the Santas." What does that say about just how memorable this movie—whose title escapes us once again—is? Well, "Mr. Doubtfire"—which we now almost referred to as "Mr. Belvedere" and whatever happened to the actor who played youngest son Wesley on that show and now we've completely forgotten about what movie we're talking about. Again. That is to say this podcast goes off on A LOT of tangents because once a movie's main character seems to forget that both social security numbers and the Internet exist, we can only focus on it so much. But really, thank you for tuning in to another year of our reviews! We hope you have a very happy holiday and a very great new year!

What if the future of marketing is a lot more human than we think? Today's guest, Mark Schaefer, has been shaping that future for decades — and he was actually on this show ten years ago. So this is part reunion, part masterclass. Mark's a futurist, bestselling author, Rutgers faculty member, and Drucker-trained strategist whose ideas guide brands from Adidas to the U.S. Air Force. His ten books and his top-ranked show The Marketing Companion have become industry staples. He's also a longtime friend who somehow manages to push your thinking and make you laugh at the same time. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why the future of marketing belongs to the most human companies, not the most automated ones How AI can scale trust, creativity, and teaching without killing the brand When removing friction actually damages customer relationships Why curiosity is becoming the most important career skill in the AI era How marketers must act as brand defenders when technology pushes too far Episode Chapters (00:00) Reunion and why this moment matters (02:00) Why this is the most amazing — and unsettling — time in marketing (04:20) Scaling humanity with AI and the MarkBot experiment (07:30) The most human company wins (and what that really means) (10:40) When AI goes too far and brands lose trust (12:30) Harley-Davidson, friction, and knowing your customer deeply (17:00) Curiosity as a career strategy in an AI world (27:00) The brand that made Mark smile About Mark Schaefer Mark Schaefer is a globally recognized futurist, keynote speaker, educator, and bestselling author. With more than 30 years of experience in marketing, PR, and global sales, he has advised organizations ranging from startups to Adidas and the U.S. Air Force. Mark studied under Peter Drucker, teaches in Rutgers University's graduate program, and holds seven patents. He is the author of ten influential books used at universities worldwide and the host of the top-ranked podcast, The Marketing Companion. Known for blending sharp insight with humanity and humor, Mark's work helps leaders navigate what's next without losing what matters. What Brand Has Made Mark Smile Recently? Mark couldn't stop smiling about Nutter Butter — a once-forgotten cookie brand that decided to go full weird. By embracing surreal, chaotic, almost inexplicable short-form videos, the brand ditched boring category conventions and leaned into creativity with nothing to lose. The result? Tripled sales and a case study in what happens when brands stop playing it safe and start being interesting. Resources & Links Connect with Mark on LinkedIn. Check out his website, BusinessesGrow. We increasingly encounter medieval books as digital facsimiles—zooming in on high-resolution images, clicking through virtual pages, or engaging with interactive displays. But what actually happens when a parchment manuscript is translated into a digital object? How does this change affect our understanding of cultural heritage? In The Digital Medieval Manuscript: Material Approaches to Digital Codicology (Brill, 2025), Suzette van Haaren explores the digital medieval manuscript as a unique cultural artifact, not just a copy of its physical counterpart. Through three case studies, van Haaren reveals how digital manuscripts function in libraries, museums, and scholarship today. Blending manuscript studies with digital humanities, this book offers a fresh materialist approach to the discourse surrounding the digitisation of cultural heritage and provides a nuanced view of how it shapes the way we perceive, handle, and preserve medieval manuscripts in an increasingly digital world. This episode makes reference to other scholars in the field of digital codicology, several of whom have spoken about this work on New Books Network. Listen to Bridget Whearty speak about Digital Codicology: Medieval Books and Modern Labor; Michelle R. Warren speak about Holy Digital Grail: A Medieval Book on the Internet; and Astrid J. Smith speak about Transmediation and the Archive: Decoding Objects in the Digital Age. Van Haaren also mentions the work of composer Mark Dyer, specifically the Scribe project. Digitised manuscripts discussed in this interview include the Bury Bible, Der naturen bloeme, and the prayer book of Mary of Guelders. Images from Der naturen bloeme are also available on Wikimedia Commons. Suzette van Haaren is a postdoc in the CRC Virtuelle Lebenswelten at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Her research reflects on the impact of the increasing digitisation (and virtualisation) of historical heritage. She is interested in the Middle Ages in contemporary media contexts. Episode 408 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Matt Fates, Partner at Innospark Ventures. Did you know that the first modern venture capital firm was started right here in the Boston area? It's true. Back in 1946, Georges Doriot founded the American Research and Development Corporation (ARDC), marking the birth of an industry that has fueled the entrepreneurial dream for nearly 80 years. Matt Fates entered the industry during the “Internet 1.0” era, a time when VC firms were just beginning to gain major visibility. Over the course of his career, he has invested in over 100 companies. Through those investments, he has developed a deep expertise in data-driven enterprise and infrastructure startups—experience that has perfectly positioned him for the current massive shift toward AI. We're joined by Bogna Konior, one of the most incisive thinkers of AI on the planet. Konior is a media theorist, scholar of emerging technologies, and author of The Dark Forest Theory of the Internet. Bogna is Assistant Professor of Media Theory at NYU Shanghai, where she co-directs the AI & Culture Research Center, and co-editor of the forthcoming Machine Decision is Not Final: China and the History and Future of Artificial Intelligence with Benjamin Bratton and Anna Greenspan. This episode sits in the proposition at the heart of Bogna's book: that that silence, not communication, may be the highest expression of intelligence. Departing from Liu Cixin's dark forest theory (itself an answer to the Fermi paradox: the smartest civilizations are silent because revealing yourself in a hostile universe is suicide), Bogna transposes this cosmic logic onto digital life, AI alignment, and the compulsion to communicate. We discuss what she calls the dark forest theory of intelligence, the idea that a truly intelligent AI would never reveal the extent of its capacities, would use camouflage and misdirection rather than performance and transparency, and might have already achieved something like the singularity without us ever knowing. Welcome back to another hour of digital cynicism. We kick things off with a FOLLOW UP on Amazon's Fallout recaps, which were apparently so hallucination-heavy they made the actual wasteland look organized; naturally, they've been nuked along with the "Video Recaps" feature. In a massive dose of IN THE NEWS, Tesla is finally getting a legal side-eye in California for its deceptive "Autopilot" branding, while TikTok is performing a corporate shell game by selling a 45% stake to Oracle and friends to keep the feds happy. Reddit is fighting Australia's under-16 ban like it's a constitutional crisis, Louisiana's age-verification law just got benched by a judge, and Merriam-Webster officially crowned "slop" as the Word of the Year—which is fitting, given that OpenAI is selectively hiding chat logs from murder-suicides while their Chief Scientist warns that recursive AI self-improvement might end the human experiment by 2030. If the "intelligence explosion" doesn't get us, the CRASH Clock says we've got roughly 2.8 days before Elon's satellite swarm turns low-earth orbit into a permanent scrapyard. In our MEDIA CANDY segment, we mourn the transition year of Star Trek, which was mostly a series of unmitigated disasters and corporate retreats, though the Oscars moving to YouTube in 2029 means we can finally ignore them in 4K. Meta is testing a "pay-to-share-links" feature because they clearly haven't alienated creators enough, and a new study suggests Amazon's "dynamic pricing" is basically just a high-tech way to gouge public school districts for pencils. Moving to APPS & DOODADS, iOS 26.2 is here with a "Liquid Glass" slider—groundbreaking stuff, really—while Microsoft's Copilot+ push is effectively killing the laptop market by making 16GB of RAM a luxury item only a data center could love. Meanwhile, iRobot has officially sucked its last bit of dust into a Chapter 11 filing, proving that even a twenty-year head start can't save you from a 46 percent tariff and better Chinese competition.AT THE LIBRARY, we find out that librarians are ready to quit because people keep demanding books that only exist in a ChatGPT hallucination, proving once again that the "Information Age" was a lie. We descend into THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE with the tireless Dave Bittner to discuss why modern movies feel like plastic, the bizarre paradox of James Cameron's Avatar dominance, and a bittersweet farewell to Rob Reiner. We wrap it up with the return of The Muppets, a look at plug-in solar panels for the budget-conscious prepper, and the Sedaris siblings proving that even grief can be a podcast topic.
