On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with the brilliant Dr. Caroline Leaf, a true pioneer in the science of the mind, brain, and body connection. Caroline's work has changed how we think about mental health, self-regulation, and transformation and today, she joins me to share insights from her latest book, Help in a Hurry. We dive right into what inspired this new book: those frantic moments when you feel like you're about to lose it, stuck in regret, overwhelmed, people-pleasing, or on the verge of snapping in the middle of a tough meeting. Caroline unpacks the real science behind why those first 60 seconds matter so much, and she gives practical—often life-changing—techniques you can use to take back control in the heat of the moment. Caroline walks me through her process for validation, mind shifting, and conscious breathing, sharing stories from her own life (yes, even the experts lose their cool sometimes!) and the research that led to this 63-second miracle. We talk burnout, pressurized living, the myth of waiting for a vacation to “restore” yourself, and how just a one-minute “thinker moment” can completely reset your brain and body. We get into the difference between the mind and the brain (Caroline makes this fascinating and easy to grasp!) and the importance of tuning into your soul and spirit to find genuine peace even quoting some powerful scripture along the way. Whether you're struggling in your relationships, facing chronic burnout, or just want to bring more mental strength and peace to your day-to-day, this conversation is filled with accessible strategies, inspiration, and hope. Caroline's wisdom will help you reclaim the next moment (and maybe the next 63 days), moving you from chaos and helplessness to clarity and empowerment. If you've ever felt like you need “help in a hurry,” or you want a 911 strategy for your thoughts and feelings, this episode is your go-to guide. About Dr. Caroline Leaf, Dr. Caroline Leaf is a communication pathologist, audiologist, clinical and research neuroscientist with a Masters and PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc Logopaedics, specializing in psychoneurobiology and metacognitive neuropsychology. Since the early 1980s she has researched the mind-brain connection, the nature of mental health, and the formation of memory. She was one of the first in her field to study how the brain can change (neuroplasticity) with directed mind input. Pre-Order Dr. Caroline's book, Help in a Hurry, out August 5th here! Unveiling Global Secrets: From Alien Timelines to Military Drafts In this captivating episode of "Right On Radio," listeners are taken on a multifaceted journey through the profound and the perplexing. The episode kicks off with a thoughtful reflection on Friday's significance, amusingly contrasting the typical work week's end with the ever-continuous toil of retail workers and podcasters. As the host transitions into deeper subject matter, listeners are presented with a solemn examination of the crucifixion, suggesting that although the narrative is well known, its gravity remains ever poignant. The show features an engaging "Word on Word" segment, pitting biblical scriptures against each other to elicit personal reflections from the audience. The host reads passages from Amos and Jeremiah, prompting a lively discussion around their meanings and relevance today. Beyond the scripture, the episode delves into the complexities of human social behavior, highlighting the aversion to shallow interactions and the dangers of groupthink. Listeners are treated to fascinating discussions, including commentary on aliens discussing the human concept of time and the absurdity of our obsession with it. Moreover, the episode explores serious global concerns, such as predictions of civil unrest in the U.S. and the ominous presence of intelligence forces manipulating societal currents. The host courageously navigates through topics of satanic ritual abuse, organized religious institutions, and the terrifying potential of programmed super soldiers. The discussions are further enriched with archival input from whistleblowers like Russ Dizdar and Bill Cooper, offering historical perspectives on today's issues. As the episode winds down, listeners are offered a humorous relief with a playful clip advocating for menopausal women to lead military efforts, suggesting they are more battle-ready than the next generation. Wrapping up with a call to cherish life in the moment, the episode encourages reflection and community engagement, leaving listeners both fascinated and entertained. This week marks 30 years since a blistering, oppressive heat wave boiled the Midwest, hitting the Chicago area the hardest. Temperatures reached a height of 106 degrees, and the heat index soared to the 120s. The heat – combined with a number of overwhelmed city agencies and a buckling power grid – would contribute to the deaths of 739 people. Reset looks back at the summer of 1995 and digs into whether Chicago is ready today for similar heat waves with NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg, author of the book “Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago.” For a full archive of Reset interviews, head over to wbez.org/reset.

Is a social media reset the right step for you to reconnect with yourself and God? The increasing dependency on social media has significantly impacted how we perceive success, identity, and connection. A social media reset can be a transformative journey to reconnect with yourself and God, enhance personal well-being, and rediscover the true essence of life and relationships. Understanding the Need for a Social Media Reset Social media is a double-edged sword, offering both the potential for positive impact and the risk of negative influence. Like money, it holds no intrinsic morality but can shape behaviors and mindsets based on how it's used. Today, we risk living more vividly in the artificial world of pixels than in our own, tangible realities. A social media reset encourages us to reassess the motivations behind our frequent scrolling and posting. Additionally, it allows us to examine the subtle impacts on our spiritual and mental well-being. The Spiritual Perspective When we shift our focus through a social media reset, we open the door to deep spiritual insights. However, this shift isn't merely about limiting screen time; it's about prioritizing time with God and nurturing our inner selves. The ever-present digital noise can drown out the gentle call of God, pulling us away from a life filled with purpose and peace. A social media reset sets the stage for us to reconnect with God. In addition, it reminds us that our value doesn't hinge on digital validation but on divine, unconditional love. Crafting a Life of Purpose Success in life and business doesn't depend on social media metrics. In pursuing a more authentic existence, we are reminded that our worth is fundamentally rooted in what God says about us. Our identity in Christ far surpasses any number of likes or followers. As part of a social media reset, we are invited to rediscover joy and focus on building real, meaningful connections with those around us. Read the full show notes and access all links. We continue our lease accounting podcast miniseries with an episode focused on embedded leases. Some arrangements to provide services or purchase inventory rely on the use of a specific asset to fulfill the contract. Even if the word “lease” doesn't appear, the rights conveyed to the customer may still meet the definition of a lease—shifting the transaction from simply purchasing services or goods to leasing an asset. We explain why identifying an embedded lease is critical and how it can significantly impact the accounting and financial reporting for both customers and suppliers. In this episode, we discuss:1:40 – An overview of embedded leases and common arrangements6:50 – Determining whether an arrangement contains a lease24:07 – Allocating contract consideration to lease and nonlease components34:19 – Available practical expedients39:01 – Accounting and reporting implicationsFor more information, see chapter 2 of our Leases guide and chapter 4 and 5 of our Revenue from contracts with customers guide. Is your house loud and chaotic? Does your brain spin daily? Does your patience feel paper-thin? If you said yes, then this episode is your exhale. Nobody talks about why moms get emotionally stuck in the chaos, but we need to normalize it. There is constant overstimulation: the noise, the needs, and the decisions to be made. We try to suppress it and hold it all together because everyone needs us to have it all together until we finally snap and explode. We need a break, but then we feel guilty for taking a break. We believe we just don't have time to reset. In this episode, we're talking small, doable resets that take 5 minutes or less — to help you come back to peace, even when everything else feels loud. This is for the busy, overwhelmed moms who need practical, bite-sized emotional resets they can use anytime — even in the middle of toddler tantrums or work-from-home chaos. Remember that shiny budget and those big goals you made in January when the year felt fresh and full of possibilities? If your business (or life) looks different now than it did months ago, you're not failing, you're simply running a real business in the real world. Things shift. You adapt. In this episode, Danielle Hayden, CEO and founder of Kickstart Accounting, Inc., walks you through one of her favorite CFO tools: reforecasting. It's not about starting over—it's about realigning your financial strategy with where you are right now. Key Takeaways: Reforecasting = Realignment, Not Failure: Your original budget was based on what you knew at the time. Updating it doesn't mean you failed—it means you're leading with clarity and making strategic decisions based on your current reality. Start with Solid Bookkeeping: Before you can reforecast, your financial foundation needs to be accurate. Without clean, up-to-date books, your forecast is a guess and isn't providing you with proper clarity. Use Actual Data + Updated Insights: Effective reforecasting combines what you know now, your business's year-to-date (YTD), with your revised budget to project the rest of the year. Reforecasting Should Be Routine: Use this tool anytime your business shifts, like if there's a change in revenue, a team adjustment, a new offer, or even a personal life change that impacts your work. Rewire Your Mindset: There's no shame in changing the plan. In fact, there's power in it. Adapting your financial strategy is a sign of leadership, not failure. Topics Discussed: (00:19 – 01:14) Why is Reforecasting Important in Financial Planning? (01:14 – 02:28) What is Reforecasting in Business? (03:32 – 06:12) When Should You Reforecast? (06:12 – 07:49) Real World Client Examples of Reforecasting (07:50 – 08:49) Rewiring Your Mindset Around Changing Your Plans (08:52 – 09:49) How to Reforecast Step-by-Step Your Reforecasting Action Plan: Review your year-to-date and quarterly financials Ask yourself: What's changed? What needs to shift or stay the same? Update your original budget with what you now know Download our free reforecasting template below! The story of how a neighborhood theater became a church struggling to install a new roof says a lot about how buildings evolve over time. Reset talks to architecture expert Dennis Rodkin. For a full archive of Reset interviews, head over to wbez.org/reset.
President Trump's massive tax and spending bill signed into law on July 4 enshrined his 2017 tax cuts and cut federal funding for clean energy, food assistance programs and Medicaid in part by shifting costs to states. This comes as local food pantries say they've been at capacity the past few years due to inflated grocery prices and increased demand as a result of the COVID pandemic. Reset hears how this could affect Chicagoans with SNAP recipient Cody Martin, Pilsen Food Pantry director Dr. Evelyn Figueroa and Greater Chicago Food Depository CEO and executive director Kate Maehr. This week's episode of the Seven Figure Consultant Podcast, originally broadcast in July 2023, is all about how to make the most of the opportunity we are presented with during the Summer months for a reset, before we jump into the Fall. It's a chance to reflect on the changes you are ready to make in your business – and the things you are ready to leave behind. I share my experience of letting go of money fears, embracing abundance, and building self-trust, and invite you to do the same! Summer can be a powerful time for business reset and personal growth, using this quieter season to gain clarity on your goals and desires, and to approach the coming months with intention. Quotes: “One of the things I love in these quieter seasons is the opportunity to reflect and really look back on the last 6 or 7 months since the holiday season and ask ourselves, what do I want to bring with me into the next season?” - Jessica Fearnley “We can't just give up a bad mindset habit. We need to replace it with something better. Switch out fear and choose abundance and self-trust instead. ‘I don't need to think about this, because if we end up in a worst case scenario, I will know what to do.'” - Jessica Fearnley “Never say to yourself that you can't have something. I ban my clients from using the word realistic. As women, we are way too quick to shrug our shoulders and accept less when we know we are looking for more. If you can't name your desires to yourself, how will you bring them into being? It starts with getting clarity within ourselves.” – Jessica Fearnley Useful Links Buy Too Much on Amazon Episode 153: How to Take a Vacation as a Seven Figure Consultant Get in touch with Jessica to discuss your consulting business Join the weekly newsletter for women consultants Leave a rating and review for the Seven Figure Consultant Podcast Connect with Jessica on LinkedIn Follow Jessica on Instagram
