In order to tell a story, we need all aspects of the story. And that includes the difficult and tricky parts, the villains, the hurt. This conversation is real. It's raw. It's incredibly vulnerable. I'm joined by Victoria Omeregie and Jon Vellante in this first roundtable episode. I can't think of two better actors for this conversation. I had the pleasure of working with them for Fairview at Speakeasy Stage in Boston. I hope you'll join us as we discuss what it takes both on stage—but, more importantly, what it takes off-stage from the human being performing these really tough roles. (Spoiler alert: you will hear us share details about Fairview!)In this episode, you will:Discover how establishing boundaries and protocols facilitates safety and connection for everyone.Uncover the value of talking across hard things and coming out feeling like family.Learn how an EDI consultant can positively impact the people and the play.Full Show Notes Here!Connect with Victoria:WebsiteFat Ham at the Alliance Theater in AtlantaConnect with Jon:WebsiteInstagramCONNECT with Kira:@kiratroilo @artandsoulconsulting @inclusivestagesWebsiteBecome a PatronRegister for the first 'Inclusive Stages' cohort certification programJoin our mailing list - scroll to the bottom of the pageThanks for joining me on this episode of Inclusive Stages! Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! We're back to our regularly scheduled programming with two haunted locations and a kooky case of psychokinesis. First up Kala talks about the Alliance Theater in Alliance, NE, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who died during a performance. Then she talks about the Mill Ruins Park in Minneapolis, MN. This site of the Great Mill Disaster may be a park now, but it seems like the ghosts don't want us to forget this is the place where they met their end. And Brittany tells us all about the Rosenheim Poltergeist. Have you ever hated a job? Have you ever hated a job so much that it manifested itself as ghostly activity? No? Best make sure you're going for a job you want or you may end up like the people in Brittany's story this week.

Daviorr Snipes started at the Stratford Festival four months ago as its first Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). Before arriving in Stratford, Daviorr served as Director of EDI at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta. In his present position his focus is on devising and implementing strategies to make the theater experience more attractive to racialized communities which in the past have not felt welcomed. We spoke about the need to extend this feeling of being treated as equals at the theater to everywhere in the city of Stratford. Daviarr shared many memories of his upbringing in Macon, Georgia and how at the age of 16, in an English class, even though he had never seen a play, he suddenly had this irresistible desire to act in the play they were reading, which was Macbeth, instead of simply reading it. His love, he told me, was about the joy he received from telling stories, and having a communication with the audience where he got to talk about the most difficult, personal and joyful aspects of life with complete strangers every night and hopefully have the chance to show them a different way to see the world and the people in it through these stories. Keith Arthur Bolden talks the importance of telling Black stories, working on "Lovecraft Country", his starring role in "Terror Lake Drive", and shares that time he really thought he lost the role!About Keith: Born and raised in Los Angeles and surrounded by all of the action of the entertainment industry, Keith wouldn't discover his passion of acting and the theater until college. Despite going to college with the goal of pursuing a career in civil service, Keith joined an African-American acting troupe, quickly discovered his passion for performing and hasn't looked back since. In recent years, Keith has built an impressive roster of high-profile credits, including “Lovecraft Country,” “Underground,” Cobra Kai,” "Black Lightning,” “Jungle Cruise,” “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” and “Chicago PD.” Next up, Keith stars in the ALLBLK original series “Terror Lake Drive,” coming to the AMC streaming platform in June. The show follows a suburb of Atlanta that is rocked by a string of disappearing women set against the backdrop of the Covid pandemic. Keith plays ‘Detective Reynolds,' a hardnosed detective searching for the truth which eventually leads him to uncover a world of sex trafficking.A resident of Atlanta since 2013, Keith is an associate professor of Theater and Performances at Spelman College. He teaches acting classes and facilitates a fellowship program between the University and the infamous Alliance Theater. In his work at the college, he also directs one show a year and in 2021, at the Tony Award Winning Alliance Theatre, he directed a play that dealt with Black Lives Matter and the harrassment/killings of unarmed black by police officers. Keith is also on several advisory boards at the Alliance Theatre, a role in which he works closely with his wife, who is also the associate artistic director. In his illustrious career, his favorite roles are those in which he gets to work with the same people again. Having starred in “Underground,” with creator Misha Green, she later brought Keith back for “Lovecraft Country.” He has also loved his many experiences in “Cobra Kai” and “Black Lightning,” both roles he returned to for multiple seasons. When not acting, Keith makes sure to carve out time for self care and believes in the importance of therapy. He loves taking the time to drive with the windows down and the music playing. Keith lives in Atlanta with his fellow actress/director and wife Tinashe and children.Follow the show on social media! Bethany Anne Lind is an acclaimed actress who makes her home here in Georgia. I had the pleasure of teaching her to stutter for the award-winning play Carapace- at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta. In addition to an extensive live theater portfolio, she has had roles in Ozark, The Walking Dead, The Stranger Things. Streaming now is her movie Blood on Her Name. We discuss how stuttering is portrayed in theater and movies. After decades of tolerance for belittling people who stutter and making stuttering a punchline, we are now seeing a shift in the narrative about stuttering. It is my opinion that the acting and film industry has a responsibility to respect people who stutter. The ADA protects people who stutter against discrimination. The King's Speech and Carapace are two triumphs for people who stutter. Documentaries When I Stutter and My Beautiful Stutter are newer additions to a catalog of better portrayal of stuttering and the impact it has on people. After listening to Bethany Anne Lind, begin enjoying her talent on your television and watch for her in local theater.

In this weeks episode we chat with activist and actor Eileen Grubba. Eileen Grubba's memorable, edgy characters in shows like Sons of Anarchy (2008), NBC's Game of Silence (2016), and HBO's Hung (2009) have gained her a reputation for courageous character work. She is a lifetime member of the world renowned Actors Studio where she is known as a "force" on stage, and often compared to theatre greats Geraldine Page and Kim Stanley. Eileen was born in Anchorage, Alaska into a family of eight children. She grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she trained at the Alliance Theater, sang in a choir, performed in musicals, and worked in commercials and Independent films. She next moved to New York City where she trained at HB Studios, sang cabaret, and worked in TV and Film before moving to Los Angeles. In LA she works mostly in television and constantly trains at The Actors Studio under the tutelage of Martin Landau, Allan Miller, Barbara Bain, Lou Antonio, Mark Rydell, Catlin Adams. Her past films and Television series, include: NBC's Game of Silence (2016), Criminal Minds (2005), Bones (2005), Sons of Anarchy (2008), Hung (2009), Enlightened (2011) CSI: Miami (2002), The Mentalist (2008) Cold Case (2003), Nip/Tuck (2003), The Closer (2005), Monk (2002), and more. On stage, she has tackled challenging roles in plays by Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, David Mamet and on many new plays with emerging playwrights. She was the lead in multiple musicals including "Cinderella", "The Little Shop of Horrors" and "Dracula". Perhaps what is most unique about Eileen is her extreme life experience and what she does with it. Her adventures are much like the stories only seen on the silver screen. She has overcome numerous, unimaginable challenges and has the scars to prove it. Her indomitable spirit is a constant inspiration to others. A fighter all her life, she refuses to give up her quest to make her mark on the Entertainment Industry. She is an advocate for children with disabilities, families with genetic cancers, and fights for the inclusion of performers with disabilities in film and television. Eileen Grubba is also a writer, director, producer, and has an extensive resume in casting, working for network shows and feature films. She has been hired to write screenplays with strong women characters, and has produced several films and a pilot. Memorials are here to remind us, to motivate us, to inspire us. This month we explore and remember the leadership, courage and creativity that molded art, music, and educational arenas in Atlanta, and places far beyond. What we find is that memorials are community building, not necessarily isolated to one static place. Today we will tell two stories that have shaped the physical and cultural contours of Atlanta -- the Orly plane crash of 1962 alongside the musical life and premature death of Blind Willie McTell. Our guests are (1) JOE BANKOFF - President and CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center (2) PEARL CLEAGE - a poet and playwright as well artist in residence at the Alliance Theatre (3) and DAVID FULMER - an author and musical historian.
