Dr Paul Taylor Pitt, or Paul, as he insists being called, despite the many letters behind his name is an incredible teacher. He balances a genuine  self-deprecation with grounded confidence and curiosity and a spirit of collective experimentation. It's pretty fucking awesome. No wonder he's a successful organizational development & somatic coach,  having been recognized with awards such as HR Most Influential Thinkers 2022 from HR Magazine OD Network's 2023 Global Award for Organizational Excellence and Impact. Awarded to Do OD, among a long list of awards throughout his career. But it wasn't until one fateful day at the gym that he really found his calling—somatics. And he's pursued a somatic/ embodied approach to his OD and personal coaching, and to say this has enriched his experience as well as his clients is an understatement.Add to that his LGBTQ advocacy—including authoring a gay Scottish folk story—a first, and with a happily ever after ending, along with his podcasting and organizational development and coaching at Metamorphosish and you start to get the picture of this renaissance of a man.In this conversation, we cover a lot. From defining exactly what embodied coaching is, how it differs from conventional conversational coaching, what its benefits are, how Paul was drawn to somatic coaching, and of course some conversation about the state of affairs with LGBTQI A+ community,  Scottish folklore and Barbie. So settle in, get cozy with a cup of tea—and feel like you are a part of this conversation, listening intently from a side chair. We should care about the way things are put together. And from concept to compete completion. Granite Digital, Ireland's leading full-service digital agency, today announces that it is the first Irish partner to win a global award at Umbraco's annual Codegarden conference which takes place in Denmark. The project by Granite Digital in partnership with Bump Digital was chosen from a selection of hundreds of global candidates to receive the ‘Best Custom Solution' award for its application of Umbraco, the world's leading hosting site, to create a cutting-edge, trusted and easy-to-use online marketplace which has transformed trading for the Irish farming community. Umbraco is the fastest-growing server application which allows businesses to easily create and manage their websites. It is the foundation for over 730,000 active websites across the globe – including web projects for global enterprises such as Amazon, Microsoft, McDonald's, Carlsberg Group and JP Morgan – making it one of the most popular Web Content Management systems (CMS). Granite partnered with Bump Digital to leverage Umbraco and pioneered the ‘Farmers Market' platform for the Irish Farmers Journal (IFJ) to meet the demand for an accessible and intuitive website where farmers can trade online. By using Umbraco's flexible and user-friendly open server, the IFJ has increased revenues and enhanced the user experience for both customers and traders. Integrated with 11 external services and customised features, the marketplace enables ecommerce capabilities and facilitates peer-to-peer payments, thus delivering an effortless checkout experience for users. Traders can also easily register and advertise their products – such as livestock, machinery, careers – in over 45 categories and with thousands of preconfigured categories to choose from. Furthermore, they can highlight or boost their advertisements, while keeping track of results with accurate real-time statistics. Granite Digital recently invested €100,000 in staff training, technology, and research and development to achieve its Umbraco Gold Partner status – the highest level of partnership available. This equips the Granite Digital team with all the required expertise and skills to implement high-performing websites on the Umbraco platform, such as the one implemented for the IFJ. Joe Lenehan, Digital Product Manager at Irish Farmers Journal, said: “Moving to Umbraco with Granite has led to a fundamental change in how we operate and manage our business. We're no longer reliant on developers any time we want to make quick changes to the site or app. Our sales team can manage the platform's content, customer accounts or subscriptions, and gain essential analytics insight directly through our Umbraco back-end system.” Robert Carpenter, COO, Granite Digital, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this prestigious global award which recognises the dedication and expertise of our entire team. At Granite Digital, we are on a mission to create and deliver digital solutions which transform businesses and innovate for industries. Seeing how the IFJ's platform enables farmers to trade with ease is something we take great pride in. “Having recently become an Umbraco Global Partner, our team can now provide more digital solutions to clients and efficiently deliver results through websites and integrated digital ecosystems. This recognition celebrates our commitment in providing businesses with the best toolset for digital transformation, and we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.” See more stories here. The department's 3,000 employees now have access to a central system that enables them to conceptualise the effect potential policy decisions will make on the environment or the economy, before they are implemented. They can also examine historical trends and analyse the success of previous schemes and initiatives. The Veterinary Service Animal Health Group within DAERA has completely transformed its disease investigation processes, swapping paper forms for digital technology. DAERA can now respond more quickly to animal welfare concerns and instigate the most appropriate measures to prevent the spread of disease. Paul McGurnaghan, Director of Digital Service, DAERA, said: “It is an honour to receive this high-profile global award which recognises the dedication and innovation of our team. The Information Hub has been transformational and enabled the department to bring together data coherently, which has advanced more informed and effective policy making decisions. Our Information Hub will continue to bring benefits not only for DAERA but for our local farm businesses, for our environment and indeed for our wider economy.” The solution has improved overall efficiency by removing manual, paper-based processes and eliminating the unnecessary duplication of data. Information Hub is at the heart of the department, enabling it to improve organisational excellence, reach business plan targets, helping to make DAERA an insight-driven organisation, placing data at the heart of all decision making. Jack Dangermond, Co-Founder and President of Esri Inc, selected the award. Jack Dangermond said: “I am delighted to present DAERA with this prestigious award, in recognition of its impactful use of geographic information in quickly addressing unprecedented and global challenges. The winning entrants demonstrate users from around the world are leveraging GIS capabilities to improve decision making to solve real-world problems.” See more stories here.

Balenciaga brand is facing major backlash after they released an advertisement featuring children holding teddy bears that were dressed in bondage. The Guardian has more on the story:   The luxury fashion house Balenciaga has apologized over adverts that showed children holding teddy bears in bondage gear and others featuring documents about child sexual abuse law as a prop.  The brand admitted “a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility” over the now withdrawn campaigns, which have prompted furious criticism online and a $25m (£21m) lawsuit against the team behind one of them.  The Business of Fashion website has rescinded its Global Award due to have been presented to the label's creative director, Demna, at its annual gala dinner on Thursday, describing the images as “wholly inconsistent with our values”. The site reported that its invitation to Balenciaga to attend and offer an explanation was declined.  Plus, Vince breaks down more of the latest news. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Guest of the appointment is a prominent figure in the Columbian architectural scenario, Giancarlo Mazzanti, who has dedicated part of his professional life to confer a new identity, a quality environment, and social welfare to poor, unprivileged areas of his country, demonstrating that architecture can offer effective opportunities for a social redemption. Graduated from the Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá, he completed his postgraduate studies in architectural history, theory, and industrial design at the University of Florence in Italy, founding shortly afterward his practice, El Equipo de Mazzanti, in the city of Bogotá.He realized very young the famous ‘Spain Library' in the city of Medellin, followed by a wide range of projects from schools, libraries, sports facilities, museums, masterplans and installations, that have gained wide national and international recognition.Awarded many times first prize and honorable mention in occasion of the most renowned Biennals, from the Venice Architecture Biennal to the Colombian, the Ibero-American and the Pan-american, he has won among other important recognitions, the Locus Foundation's Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, Paris, and has the honor to have his works included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, in New York, the Museum Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, CMOA, in Pittsburgh. He believes in an architecture as action and, as an authentic activator and mediator, proposes multi-program public spaces that stimulate and foster relationships and interactions. The conversation starts from that architecture of social value that has always seen him involved in the attempt to mend situations of severe inequality and marginalization, trying to understand how he had the chance to play a relevant role with his interventions in a difficult country like Columbia, for long time dominated by the violence of drug-wars and a diffuse, extreme poverty. We speak then about one of his first works, the simple but extremely iconic and brilliant gesture that characterizes the Spain Library, an architectural act considered by Mazzanti of real value, because not limited only to one function but embodying, as a hub of new opportunities, the potentiality to multiply public uses according to the needs of the poor neighborhood. The intriguing synergy between the topography of the terrain and the organization of his works is another fundamental part of an architecture that, above suggesting familiar presences, aspires to grow organically with the context. The famous Four Sport Scenarios, a fusion of poetry and great flexibility, a porous public building conceived to host the 2010 South American Games, with the uninterrupted sequence of undulating profiles of its roof bands, coated in several shades of green, plays on the idea of a large green canopy, perfectly integrated with the surrounding mountainous landscape. Working on the modularity system of the bands has helped to envisage and propose an adaptability that, in consideration of the rapidly changing society we are experiencing, fits, almost with the same qualities of a tree, to new situations. A building able to expand and develop over time also without the author. This operative strategy, finalised to deepen modules, aggregations of patterns, far from rigid functional programs, has been applied with prototype configurations to many elementary schools, as Timayui Kindergarten and 21, Atlantico Kindergarten, 21 different plots, in north of Colombia, in a region vulnerable to floods, responding to diverse topographical or programmatic requirements, with very limited budgets and timeframes. Two other exemplar proposals, the attractive tree-like canopy, made of translucent polycarbonate dodecahedron modules, of Forest Hope, a small but particular significant sign able to provoke a multi-generational response in a depressed periphery of Bogota, lacking of basic, public infrastructures, and Pies Descalzos School, a more ambitious realization, conceived as a modular sequence of intersected hexagons, with patios, trees and public spaces, dominating from the top of a hill an equally harsh reality of a community living in miserable conditions, have both opened a dialogue with people, gaining their trust and confidence in effective, possible changes in their unfortunate existences.According to an idea of architecture not as an object in itself but capable for using Mazzanti's words, to “trigger behaviors and new dynamics, encouraging people to act in ways they will never think to act”, the fundamental approach of the practice to every project is the involvement of the community, in processes of co-creation, giving an effective voice to their hopes and expectations. The experience has significantly imprinted one project in particular, Marinilla Educational Park that, ensuring an authentic, vibrant interactive, social scenario based on encounters and exchanges, preserves a cultural identity.Another important topic, how to encourage a de-contextualization of the traditional cold, aseptic environment of healthcare centres, arises from a proposal of more than 10 years ago, suggesting a green and liveable atmosphere for healing experience, a vision that has been later implemented for the refurbishment of the Fundación Santa Fe, a hospital in the centre of Bogotá,The conversation concludes by touching the concept of ‘play' and the relevant role it performs in all works as a contribution to a more human and creative architecture, far from rigid and controlled programmes of functional efficiency.

A very big welcome to Season 3 of The TeachPitch Podcast. I am hyper excited to be opening our latest season and cannot wait to hear your thoughts on all the awesome things we have in store for you for this series of episodes. We are kicking off and we are kicking off big because I have the great, great fortune to open Season 3 with some of the very best architects in this world. For our 51st Episode we are taking you to Tokyo, Japan where we had the tremendous honour to speak to the great Yui & Takaharu Tezuka.  Now I am genuinely not lying to you when I tell you that this couple has shaken the world of architecture and that because of them and their magnificent designs this world is a more beautiful place.  Tezuka Architects has won the Japanese Institute of Architects Prize (twice over), The Yoshioka Prize, The Architectural Institution of Japan Prize and the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture in 2017.  If you haven't already seen it, please, please check out the TED talk of Takaharu Tezuka about ‘The Best Kindergarten You Have Ever Seen' - 1.3 million people have watched his talk before you and for very good reasons.  I loved Yui and Takaharu because of their simplicity. I am very much inspired and in awe about their choice to find their architectural ideas in nature or as they say themselves - merely amplifying what is already there instead of trying to rework or undo what nature has given to us.  I also love the fact that they always wear the same colour of tshirts in the family - blue for Takaharu, red for Tezuka and I believe green and yellow for their son and daughter.  Anyways, I learnt loads of loads of this interview and hope you will as well. We have also included the video recording of this interview on our YouTube channel so do check that out as well, if you want to get an idea of what these wonderful people look like.  With that, please enjoy - ‘Yui and Takaharu Tezuka' - The Architects!  You can find more information about Yui and Takaharu through the website of Tezuka Architects: http://www.tezuka-arch.com

"Why Is Most Digital Marketing Total Horse Shit?" Marcus Hemsley is co-founder at The Fountain Partnership. Marcus and I met 14 years ago when I advised him to get some experience of life and business before becoming a coach. Thankfully he listened and spared the world another NLP coach and established a fantastic agency which to date is the only ever winner of Google's Global Award for Growing Businesses Online. Marcus and I discuss why so much money is squandered on bad digital marketing, and what causes businesses to keep throwing good money after bad. We explore why you need to think as your customer and put in the hard miles of research, planning, testing, speaking to and listening to customers to make your marketing timely, relevant and valuable enough to drive buyer desirable behaviour at each stage of the funnel. We question why vanity metrics are prioritised over outcomes for clients, and discuss how Digital Marketing can work exceptionally well for some businesses when they go back to the first principles of business growth. We also explore the interplay between marketing and sales, leadership and management culture, the power of collaboration and the critical importance of building your business around your customer's success and delivering their outcomes. Marcus is also a committed environmentalist and we discuss his initiative to encourage individuals and businesses to plant 1 million trees each. Researchers into entrepreneurship have a powerful incentive to identify new insights about how businesses grow and thrive. Happily for everyone involved in business and innovation, entrepreneurial research is thriving, blossoming, and flourishing. Professor Vishal Gupta's book, Great Minds In Entrepreneurship Research, surveys thirty or more years of research papers that were awarded what is colloquially known as the Nobel Prize in Entrepreneurship Research (formally known as the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research: GAER). The research field is deep, rich, dynamic and expanding. Research identifies and examines entrepreneurship in every business size and type as a fundamental economic activity. In its earliest days, entrepreneurship research focused a lot on small business but, today, business size and stage are not the constraints. The research identifies entrepreneurship in corporations, non-profits, and many more business sectors. Much of the research focus is on entrepreneurial contribution — to growth, to job creation, to innovation, to progress. Entrepreneurship is identified as the great economic contributor to betterment and well-being, measured via GDP growth in countries large and small, the creation of new and better jobs for people worldwide, new innovations and new business directions, and individual progress in general. As Mises stated, entrepreneurship is the driving force of the market system. New entry, properly understood, is one way to characterize entrepreneurship. The search for a single characteristic of entrepreneurship risks missing critical insights. However, one that garners broad support is “new entry” — entering new markets, entering existing markets with new value propositions, entering established product fields with new innovations, or entering into existing customer mindsets with new ideas. Economic productivity is another. A rich vein of entrepreneurship research has measured the efficiency that entrepreneurs bring to the use of resources — producing more with less. For example, research has measured innovation efficiency as the number of innovations per employee, and has found that smaller, more nimble firms are far more efficient on this metric than big corporations, even if the latter launch more new products in total (and generate more PR). The research has uncovered a new type of firm and business model, and new business ratios that result. NTBF is the acronym for New Technology Based Firms, those that innovate with new business models and new ways to facilitate service experience via dematerialized delivery. One of the results of these new models is new sets of business ratios — for example, revenue per employees which, with software based companies on the internet, can now reach never-before realized levels. This evolution has forced researchers to re-think some of their models. For example, the biologically-derived product life cycle (PLC) model of business maturity — birth, life and death — has to be revised because dematerialized companies can easily be re-born, even after near-death experiences. Think Apple — the founder died and, at one time, it was thought that the company might, but it was reborn. Research opens up entirely new ways to think about business. New research fields such as complex adaptive systems (or complex creative systems as Professor Todd Chiles prefers to call them) represent a new way to think about business — focusing less on individual firms and more on the value networks and service systems of which they are a part. New ways of evaluating business potential are also emerging from research. Professor Gupta discussed characteristics of firms such as knowledge absorption and absorptive capacity. Extending the Hayekian concept of distributed specialized knowledge, researchers have identified the ability to quickly absorb and apply new knowledge as a critical capacity of successful adaptive firms, and have shed light on many of the internal constraints this absorptive capacity. Research recognizes the role of entrepreneurial imagination and subjectivity, although it doesn't always get it right. Austrian economics highlights subjectivity and views entrepreneurial opportunity as a subjective phenomenon, based in the imagination of the entrepreneur. Not all entrepreneurship researchers have been able to become comfortable with this idea, continuing to see opportunity as objectively identifiable. Austrians seem to be in the ascendancy on this controversy. Importantly, entrepreneurship research is becoming interdisciplinary. Systems thinking requires an interdisciplinary approach. Researchers in sociology, psychology, finance and even anthropology are examining entrepreneurship via their own research lenses. This development can only help the advance of entrepreneurship across a broad front of society and culture, as well as economics. I had such an awesome conversation with Takaharu and Yui, and you can easily get a feel for the passion they have for what they do and trying to create the best environment possible for kids. They give us the 'why' behind many of the design elements of Fuji Kindergarten that I hadn't heard before, and I believe we can use many of those same principles in schools around the world, no matter the design. I hope you enjoy listening this episode as much as I did, and if we have earned it, please consider subscribing and giving us a 5 star review! Thank you!Bio:Takaharu and Yui Tezuka have extensive experience designing spaces for children, such as Fuji Kindergarten, which was named the best school in the world by OECD(Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and UNESCO. They recently received the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture from UNESCO. Takaharu`s TED Talk recorded 7th in the world for the number of views in 2015. While their activity is based on architectural design, they hold lectures all over the world, receiving offers from OECD. Their theory on children`s environment is published as the "Yellowbook" from Harvard University. She is a favorite presenter for the Athletic Business Show, Medical Fitness Association, International Council on Active Aging, JCC, Club Industry, YMCA, Illinois Park & Recreation Association, AYP, CanFitPro, IDEA, FitPro, Filex, IHRSA, Marriott Vacation Club, Gold’s Gym, WIFA, Nevada Recreation & Park Association as well as over a dozen international events throughout the world. Sara has left an indelible mark on the fitness industry as she continues to make her impact on fitness professionals worldwide. Stay In Touch With Sara SCW Website Sara's Website SCW Facebook Sara's Facebook Page SCW Instagram Show Notes We begin the show by reflecting back on how I remember first meeting Sara. Her event was the first fitness convention that ever I presented. I still remember the nerves that I felt, as I took to the stage for the first time. Sara’s memories go back a little further to the time when I was introduced to the Reebok Faculty as the new “face of Reebok.” Well, maybe you can imagine how that went down. Just like anything I needed to earn the trust (and respect) of the team and that was going to take a few years. Sara shares that inside her business she is always looking to hire people with stronger and different talents to her own. She believes that working this way elevates both her business and also her own path to success. Sara talks about how her father encouraged her from an early age to share her voice and have it heard by others and she goes on to talk about the importance of surrounding yourself with good people. People who will lift you up and see the best in you. She shares that while you can’t choose your family, you can choose your extended family and the people who will be there for you when things are going great and also there for you when you are in the struggles of life. During the more challenging times, if things are not going as planned Sara shares how her husband invited her to simply, “hit delete and move on.” Not always easy, but always worth it. Sara currently runs nine very successful conventions but we go back to a time where she had to cancel her first event due to a lack of attendance. She shares how she managed to get to the others side through the kindness of some vendors and presenters, and even in her darkest times, her husband would remind her of all that was still so good and positive in her life. We go back in time to the time when Sara first moved into the world of fitness. It began through the world of dance and she shares that it was only when she was dancing that she felt beautiful. She was also a runner at school and it was the combination of athletics and dance that brought the world of aerobics into her world. During her start as a fitness instructor, Sara attended the IDEA convention, which was and still is one of the most recognized fitness conventions in the United States. She loved every moment but realized that the cost was going to be prohibitive to attend every year. It was this thought that propelled her to create and develop her own fitness events. She began by renting space in a hotel, asking friends for help and Sara City Workouts was born. Sara shares her thought that not everyone needs to do fitness full time, and that teaching fitness part-time is a fantastic way to contribute to the industry. She then shares if you do want to try to move into fitness full time, to try different things and see which types of projects and people resonate with you and where you do your best work. Sara encourages us to take risks and to learn from our mistakes and the “seeming” failures that happen as we go for our dreams. She reminds us that what social media shows is only half of the story and for any success to happen we will have to have setbacks along the way. Sara believes the future of the wellness industry will be both in bricks and clicks, meaning both the online portals along with face to face connection. Sara believes that one of the best ways to get where you want to go is to simply show up, work hard and persevere. She invites us to choose carefully the people we choose to listen to and to schedule and plan our time carefully so that we can create our best future.

He speaks about entrepreneurhip in Sweden and that the welfare state provides a safety net for risk takers.  “This will encourage risk taking among those with access to funds”, he remarks. Adding that – in a Swedish context –  “to develop some ideas you need creativity and experience and much more, and existing companies may have that. So maybe it is not such a bad thing that when an idea has been developed the business is sold.”

Stating the importance of manual work and intuitive learning, she highlights the benefits of working with local communities in Bangladesh in projects such as the METI School, and the challenges of refining and elevating mud architecture through public outreach.
