Two orthopedic surgeons told a 69 year old patient there was no other option left for his knees. He tried something else first, and ten years later he's still walking four miles a day.Dr. Joy Kong is a triple board certified physician specializing in regenerative and anti-aging medicine, and the founder of Chara Health in Los Angeles. In this live audience Q&A, she explains why she uses non-expanded, umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells instead of autologous or bone marrow sources, how IV delivery interacts with the immune system through the spleen, and why exosome products claiming trillions of particles per dose are not biologically realistic. She walks through real patient outcomes, including a 69 year old who avoided bilateral knee replacement, a patient whose hemoglobin A1C improved after years of failed interventions, and a peripheral neuropathy patient who regained the ability to write after three treatment sessions. She also gets into the questions people ask most: how many sessions it actually takes to see results, what she's seen go wrong in over 40 treatments on herself, and how to spot inflated claims from clinics that don't test their products the way she does.If you've ever wondered whether a second opinion is worth chasing down, or what actually happens inside your body after a stem cell infusion, this one covers more ground than most.Dr. Joy talks about:00:00 Why some patients feel change in days05:19 The three pillars of stem cell therapy08:31 Why the FDA restricts stem cell language13:31 The five Ps of regenerative medicine14:23 Why umbilical cord cells beat your own20:54 Why expanded cells trigger FDA drug rules22:11 How delivery route decides where cells go26:53 The peptides in every stem cell protocol31:24 What peptides are and how many exist40:19 The ten-year knee replacement study57:33 The real risks of stem cell therapyAdditional ResourcesVisit My Clinic: Chara Health

Dr. Joy Kong is a UCLA-trained, triple board-certified physician, entrepreneur, author, and educator who has built a career around constantly reinventing herself. After immigrating to the United States following a rejected visa application, Joy went from studying journalism to biology, medical school, psychiatry, integrative medicine, and eventually regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy. Today, she is the founder of Cara Health and president of the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy, where she focuses on physician education, patient care, and building scalable healthcare businesses. On this episode we talk about: How Joy overcame a rejected U.S. visa and eventually made her way from China to America Why she has repeatedly reinvented her career, from journalism and biology to psychiatry, regenerative medicine, and entrepreneurship How following her energy and curiosity helped guide major decisions throughout her career Why Joy believes fearlessness is essential for reinventing yourself Her transition from practicing medicine to teaching other physicians and building a scalable healthcare business What drew her to regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy The challenges of maintaining quality and consistency as healthcare treatments scale Her vision for making advanced regenerative medicine more accessible through a national healthcare platform Top 3 Takeaways Don't let fear dictate your decisions. Joy believes that many major life changes become easier when you stop obsessing over the worst-case scenario and trust that you can figure things out along the way. Pay attention to your energy. Rather than following a predetermined career path, Joy repeatedly evaluated what energized and excited her, using that feeling to guide her next move. Look for ways to multiply your impact. After years of working directly with patients, Joy realized she could reach far more people by teaching other physicians and building systems that allow her knowledge and experience to scale. Notable Quotes "I just do what feels right at the moment." "The bottom line is fearlessness." "If I'm providing value, I'm doing something, I'm gonna live." "When you get to the age of 100 and 110 and still have that signal that's strong like we're at 20, we'll reach those older ages at an active state." — Dr. Tommy Rhee Here is a genuinely new idea, explained clearly by someone who has lived at the intersection of elite sport and cutting-edge medicine for decades. Dr. Tommy Rhee — chiropractor, former practitioner for UCLA Athletics and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — has developed a topical cream that delivers the active signals of stem cell therapy directly through the skin. No needles. No clinic visit. Just the molecules your body needs to tell its own tissue to wake up and repair itself. The science, as Dr. Rhee explains it, comes down to signalling. Stem cells don't become new tissue — they secrete tiny molecules that carry the message to regenerate. As we age, that signal weakens. What Dr. Rhee has done is capture the signal without the live cell, making a molecule small enough to penetrate all three layers of skin and reach the target tissue directly. Thirty days of use, morning and evening, he says, produces results comparable to an injection — at a fraction of the cost, and available without a clinic visit. Raymond and Dr. Rhee also look ahead to where this is going: plant-based versions of the same signalling technology that could bring the price down further and put the product directly in the hands of anyone who wants it. What Triggers Age-Related Belly Fat? New Stem Cell Findings and a Nutrition Perspective: Nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses research from City of Hope (published in Science) on why belly fat increases with age even without major weight gain, emphasizing the health risks of visceral fat as an endocrine organ linked to inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, and accelerated aging. The study suggests aging activates adipocyte progenitor cells (APCs) and produces an age-specific stem cell population called committed preadipocytes (CP-As) that generate new fat cells, with experiments showing older APCs create more fat cells even when transplanted into young mice. Single-cell RNA sequencing identified greater CP-A activity in middle-aged mice and similar cells in higher numbers in middle-aged human tissue. Researchers implicate the LIFR signaling pathway and propose future therapies to block these cells, while Leyla questions root causes and argues metabolic dysfunction—insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, high carbohydrate intake, and sedentary behavior—should be addressed nutritionally rather than via a pill.

Can stem cell therapy help repair damaged spinal discs instead of simply masking pain? Millions of people suffer from chronic low back pain and degenerative disc disease, yet today's standard treatments often focus on symptom management through pain medications, steroid injections, or invasive surgery. But what if regenerative medicine could change that? In this episode of Rx for Biotech, host Chris Leidli sits down with Lance Alstodt, CEO of BioRestorative Therapies, to explore how the company is developing next-generation regenerative medicine platforms designed to restore function—not just relieve symptoms. Lance discusses BioRestorative's lead clinical program, BRTX-100, an investigational autologous stem cell therapy currently in Phase 2 clinical development for chronic lumbar disc disease. The conversation explores how stem cells are expanded using the company's proprietary hypoxic manufacturing process before being injected directly into damaged spinal discs in an effort to promote tissue repair. The discussion also looks beyond spine health to BioRestorative's ThermoStem® platform, which is investigating the potential of brown adipose (brown fat) stem cells to improve metabolic health and complement GLP-1 weight-loss therapies. Finally, Lance explains how the company's expertise in stem cells and exosome biology is also being applied to next-generation skincare and regenerative aesthetics. In this episode you'll learn: • Why chronic low back pain remains one of healthcare's largest unmet needs • How regenerative medicine differs from traditional pain management • The science behind BRTX-100 and autologous stem cell therapy • Why BioRestorative uses proprietary hypoxic cell expansion • Current Phase 2 clinical trial progress and safety observations • The future of regenerative medicine for orthopedic diseases • How brown fat stem cells could complement GLP-1 therapies • What exosomes are—and why not all exosomes are created equal • The difference between FDA-regulated cell therapies and many commercial regenerative medicine clinics • BioRestorative's long-term vision for restoring function instead of simply managing symptoms Whether you're a patient living with chronic back pain, a healthcare professional, an investor, or simply interested in the future of regenerative medicine, this episode provides an inside look at one of the most exciting areas of biotechnology.

R&D and business development don't happen overnight; they are the result of small, consistent wins that build momentum, test hypotheses, and create confidence.Insight 2: The Needle is the Problem Traditional regenerative medicine relies on injectables, which create secondary injury sites, pose infection risks, and require downtime that professional athletes can't afford. Topical delivery solves these pain points by offering non-invasive, transdermal healing that can be applied seamlessly during a competitive season.Insight 3: It's About the Signal, Not the Cell Live stem cells themselves aren't the magic bullet—it's the information (extracellular vesicles or EVs) they secrete. Once Dr. Rhee understood that healing relies on signaling existing tissue to regenerate, he realized those smaller molecules could be effectively delivered via a transdermal cream.Insight 4: Plant-Based is the Future of Accessible Healing Human-tissue stem cells are expensive, highly regulated, and limited in supply, which has led to shady practices in the industry. By identifying plants that emit the exact same regenerative signals as human tissues, RheeGen is pivoting to an Over-The-Counter (OTC) model that aims to bring the cost of elite therapy under $100.Insight 5: Educational Content as a Business Strategy Dr. Rhee didn't wait until his product was fully mainstream to establish thought leadership. Writing a book and doing a TEDx talk allowed him to educate the market, establish trust, and replace repetitive 40-minute patient consultations with a scalable, accessible educational resource.Resources & Links MentionedCompany: RheeGen (Topical Regenerative Medicine)Book: The Future of Regenerative Medicine by Dr. Tommy RheeVideo: Dr. Tommy Rhee's TEDx Talk (Science fiction inspiring healthcare)About Dr. Tommy RheeDr. Tommy Rhee is a former US Navy aviator, the former team chiropractor for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the founder and CEO of RheeGen. If you're curious about a different way to think about aging, chronic disease, and what healing actually requires, this one is worth the full listen.Key Takeaways:0:00 Introduction1:15 From generations of Chinese medicine to a pathology PhD at Brown6:21 Why pathology treats symptoms instead of the root cause of cancer9:49 What disease really means before your labs ever catch it13:29 Western medicine digs the well after the fire has already started22:05 The six principles behind The Regeneration Effect35:22 Stem cells as firewood for your body's aging fire38:21 Cancer as the best gift: your garden full of weeds Schedule a Free 15-Min Cancer/Lyme Consultation at The Karlfeldt Center: 208-338-8902Resources:The Regeneration Effect: Sacred Wisdom for Staying Young (pre-order) - https://book.regenerationeffect.comFree e-book, Tending Your Body Like a Garden - https://gift.regenerationeffect.com Medical Disclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace professional medical advice. Dr. William Li is a Harvard-trained physician, co-founder of the Angiogenesis Foundation, and New York Times bestselling author whose work centers on one quietly radical premise: the power to stay healthy lives inside you. In this conversation, we explore the five hardwired defense systems the body runs continuously, angiogenesis, stem cells, the gut microbiome, immunity, and DNA protection, and what it looks like to actually support them through food, sleep, and daily choices. What We Dive Into:1. You are not just one organism. You carry 39 trillion bacteria inside you, many of which send signals up through the vagus nerve directly to the brain, shaping mood, social behavior, and stress levels.2. Your body was born with 70 million extra stem cells stored in bone marrow, ready to mobilize and repair damage whenever called. Sleep, food, and metabolic health directly influence how effectively they do their job.3. The environment is full of things we cannot fully control, microplastics, toxins, pollution. What we can control is whether our internal defense systems are strong enough to handle the load. Chronic stress degrades those systems faster than most environmental exposures.Know Thyself, but not by yourself. This week, Tee is joined by Mick Emandi, CEO of Regen MDs, and Dr. Greg Carder, Medical Director of Regen MDs, for a fascinating conversation about one of the most exciting frontiers in modern healthcare: regenerative medicine. Mick has spent more than three decades in healthcare and now leads a regenerative medicine practice dedicated to helping individuals suffering from chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, neurological conditions, cardiovascular disease, and other difficult-to-treat illnesses. Together with Dr. Greg, he explains how advances in molecular hydrogen therapy and next-generation stem cell technology are changing the way practitioners approach healing, recovery, and longevity. In this conversation, Mick and Dr. Greg break down the science behind regenerative medicine in an easy-to-understand way, explaining how it differs from conventional medicine by focusing on repairing the body rather than simply managing symptoms. They discuss why chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are at the root of many diseases, how molecular hydrogen supports mitochondrial function and cellular energy production, and why reducing inflammation is often the first step toward meaningful healing. The discussion also explores how functional medicine seeks to uncover the "why" behind illness and how restoring optimal cellular function can improve both healthspan and quality of life. The episode also takes a deep dive into a new generation of stem cell technology that utilizes regenerative signaling molecules derived from all six regions of the placenta without containing living stem cells or DNA. Mick and Dr. Greg explain how these biological signals help guide the body's own repair processes and discuss why they believe this approach represents a significant advancement over earlier stem cell therapies. They also share real-world examples involving chronic pain, Alzheimer's disease, sports injuries, and recovery, while discussing the growing role regenerative therapies may play in helping people recover from injury, maintain mobility, and age more successfully. If you're interested in longevity, functional medicine, cutting-edge health technologies, or natural approaches to improving quality of life, this episode offers an insightful look at where regenerative medicine may be headed. What if the key to improving how you age isn't simply treating symptoms—but restoring your body's natural ability to repair, regenerate, and recover? In this episode of The Coach Debbie Potts Show, I sit down with regenerative medicine expert Bill Quatman to explore the exciting science behind stem cell therapy, ozone therapy, immune resilience, and cellular healing. If you're an active adult, endurance athlete, or high performer over 40, you've probably noticed recovery takes longer, injuries linger, energy declines, and inflammation becomes more persistent. But why does this happen—and what can we do about it? Bill explains how regenerative therapies are designed to support the body's own healing processes by improving cellular communication, reducing chronic inflammation, enhancing oxygen delivery, and creating an environment where tissues can repair more efficiently. As always, we connect these concepts back to my philosophy of investigating the root causes of dysfunction rather than chasing symptoms. Healing isn't about one therapy—it's about creating the internal terrain that allows your body to thrive. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why regeneration becomes more difficult as we age How stem cells support tissue repair and recovery The science behind high-dose ozone therapy and oxygen signaling The relationship between inflammation, immune health, and longevity Why mitochondria and cellular communication matter for performance and healthy aging How regenerative medicine may complement nutrition, lifestyle, and functional health strategies Why building resilience is the foundation for long-term PeakSpan—not just lifespan Whether you're recovering from years of endurance training, navigating midlife changes, or simply want to optimize how you age, this episode offers an inspiring look into the future of personalized regenerative medicine.
