By 2030, most adults, especially women, might be single for life. A study by Pew Research Center found that nearly 1 in 4 single adults may stay single for life. While that doesn't mean everyone is destined to be alone, it does reflect big cultural changes in dating, relationships, and partnership compared to 30 years ago. 280 Breaking Cycles We are hardwired to remember the stories that are far more painful and life altering, than the happier stories we lived. Perhaps it is our survival instincts or it is just easier to remember the bad, regardless it is important to sit back and truly think about how we frame our narratives using these experiences and decide for ourselves that this story is one we want to change. In todays episode, Sarah Elkins and Erin Weninger discuss the cycles both of them have lived as women, business owners, and parents, and the difficulty that came with acknowledging and changing the destructive patterns in our lives Highlights You can do what is best for you, you only need to find the courage to reach out. Everyone's narrative is different, but you need to know personally when that narrative is false and harmful to you. What lengths will you go to in order to defend your narrative? Is it really a narrative worth defending? Be adult enough to acknowledge when you fail, apologize, work towards being better, and take accountability. It's not the end of the world to admit when you are in the wrong. Quotes “I really needed that second falling out with my mom to have that feeling of; “Wow she really will go to extreme extents for self preservation at the expense of anybody else she might care about and love.”.” “It doesn't have to be an atom bomb to me just because I accept fault.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, You've already been asked a few questions. Think about how you're modeling the behavior you want to see in the people around you. If you're a parent, what are your relationship issues with your parents that may be contributing to relationship challenges with your children? Are you taking time to look at those patterns and maybe be honest with your kids about what you're experiencing as a parent. And last but not least, I would love to hear your thoughts on Erin's story, and how and why she should share it. If you believe that her words can be inspiring to others, I would love to hear from you. And, as always, thank you for listening. About Erin (I will be sharing) My life story, as I am a 41 year old woman who spent roughly 37 years of my life thinking my dad had sexually abused me and it wasn't until 1 year ago I had confirmation he hadn't. Be sure to check out Erin's LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram! About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. Be sure to check out the Storytelling For Professionals Course as well to make sure you nail that next interview!

In this episode of 'The Summer of Me', Kendra discusses the societal pressures and guilt women often feel about wanting more in life beyond motherhood. She emphasizes that wanting more—whether it be in terms of career, personal growth, or self-identity—is not only acceptable but necessary for a fulfilling life. Kendra shares her personal experiences and insights on balancing motherhood with ambition, the importance of setting boundaries, and the generational guilt that often holds women back. Ultimately, she encourages listeners to embrace their desires for more and to model this expansion for future generations. takeaways Wanting more is not a dirty word. Women often feel guilty for wanting more in life. Balancing motherhood and personal ambitions is possible. Self-identity should not be solely defined by motherhood. Generational guilt affects women's ambitions. Settling for less leads to resentment. Guilt keeps women small and exhausted. Wanting more does not mean being ungrateful. Role modeling expansion is crucial for children. Embrace your desire for more, even if it's inconvenient.

we dive into the chilling and mysterious history of Aqua Tofana—a deadly poison that quietly haunted 17th-century Italy. Said to be undetectable, tasteless, and odorless, this lethal concoction was reportedly created by Giulia Tofana and distributed to women desperate to escape abusive marriages in a time when divorce was not an option. We explore the woman behind the formula, the whispered network of apothecaries and midwives that helped it spread, and the cultural and social conditions that turned poison into power. Was Giulia Tofana a cold-blooded murderer or a misunderstood feminist icon? And how did Aqua Tofana go from secret weapon to legend? 378 Demonstrating Who You Are Through Story Through the art of storytelling people can get a glimpse into who we are in the way that is most meaningful to show. Through our stories and how we tell them we can show an entire room of people, or just that one significant person, who we are and what matters to us. Highlights Using story to show who you are as a person and what matters most to you. Creating an environment where everyone feels safe, welcome, and willing to share their stories. Reflection and the importance of examining our past actions. Quotes “Every professional benefits when they can share stories that demonstrate their skills, values, and character.” “In 90 minutes we created an environment of significant trust, support, and vulnerability.” Dear Listeners it is now your turn, What stories do you have that are integral to who you are as a person? What stories adequately show your character, value, and traits? Write these stories down, fine tune them, and share them in a way that continues to reflect your character. And, as always, thank you for listening. As I mentioned I am celebrating my five year book-versary, starting today Your Stories Don't Define You was published May 31, 2020. Starting this podcast was a wakeup call for me, I realized I was coaching my guests in sharing their pivotal moment stories, and they were finding great value in our time together, way beyond any promotional opportunity the podcast was offering. The book is designed to guide readers in collecting and sharing their stories with exercises and worksheets throughout. To celebrate my book-versary, I'm offering to sign and ship copies from Montana to you, and every purchase will include an offer for a 20 minute bullseye story mining session. In 20 minutes we will uncover at least one meaningful story for you to fine tune for you to use in your next interview, team meeting, speaking engagement, networking event, or maybe it's a date. I really appreciate your support over the years and this is my way of giving that back.

Hey lady! Have you ever considered where your beliefs come from and, more importantly, why you hold on to them so dearly? If you're not aware it is not a coincidence that you have certain thoughts programmed into you. In fact, there are studies that certain patterns of belief and trauma can be passed through the generations. Epigenetics, the study of how behaviors and your environment can affect genes, is an area where medical professionals are starting to experience breakthroughs. They're discovering that coupling this study with the study of neuroplasticity, the phenomenon of the brain reorganizing itself to form new neural pathways and adapting to new experiences, is a powerful path to healing.Enter Daria Burke. Daria is a powerhouse of a woman who's career has spanned from award-winning business leader to author. She joins Dr. Dom and Terri this week to discuss her new book, part memoir, part methodology Of My Own Making to share her journey through healing from a rough childhood and traumatic car accident to finding her unique voice and sharing it with others. Daria offers perspective on how using the wisdom from epigenetics and the tools that neuroplasticity offer as roadmap to a healing plan that is authentic to you. Tap in for the tools but also let Daria's story serve as inspiration that life is what you make it! Go ahead and get your beautiful life, sis!Quote of the Day:"We are not defined by our origin stories. Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman
Hey lady! It's strange times filled with a lot of uncertainty but one thing we know for sure is that we will get through all of this with strong community. This week Dr. Dom and Terri discuss some of the factors that got us to reckon with the fact that there is an uprising of people reporting feelings of loneliness and being alone. While those are natural feelings from time to time you can mitigate them long-term with a strong diverse community. We're not talking about people you can post on Instagram, although that can be a part of it, we're talking about the relationships that you intentionally cultivate that fit perfectly with your life. Are you a budding yogi and find it a central part of your self-care practice? There is someone out there with the same interest. Do you crave differing perspectives and rigorous debate about ideology? There's a community out there waiting for you to join them. The truth is while loneliness may be on the rise, there are people out there for you. And, as the world continues to reel from massive changes finding people that get you and care about you will be all the more necessary. Do yourself a favor a tune in to today's episode for practical tools on building your community. Some of these may stretch you or push you or feel edgy, but that is the work. It's putting your authentic self out there so that your people can find you. If you're ready to dig deeper you won't want to miss the opportunity to get Dr. Dom and Terri's precise questions to help you dream up and call in the relationships that will fulfill you. We're cultivating a space for us while building them in our real lives! We love you, sis! Seven Ways to Build or Deepen Community 1. Join something you genuinely love Real talk: The easiest way to find aligned people is to go where your joy lives. 2. Reconnect with someone from your past Real talk: Some of the most beautiful friendships are waiting for a simple “hey, I miss you.” 3. Try something new—even if it feels awkward Real talk: The most aligned people are often waiting just outside your comfort zone. 4. Start something small—but intentional Real talk: Community doesn't have to be a big production. Start where you are. 5. Be the person who reaches out first Real talk: Waiting on someone to invite you might mean missing out on the connection you need. 6. Build connection into your rhythm Real talk: If you want community, you have to make room for it. 7. Don't underestimate the power of one Real talk: You don't need a huge friend group. You need one aligned connection to start your community. Quote of the Day:"Community is much more than belonging to something. It's about doing something together that makes belonging matter."– Unknown One of our sponsors for this week is Feeld (like field, but with two E's). Tired of dates that feel like interviews? Same.
