If you've ever talked yourself out of something you really wanted, told yourself it wasn't the right time, or felt guilty for even wanting it, this episode is going to feel like a long exhale. Therapist Niro Feliciano is back for Part 2, and we go deep into what it actually costs women when they stop investing in themselves, why women over 40 are sitting on the best years of their lives, and the simple mental shift that makes it possible to finally say yes to yourself without the guilt spiral. We also talk about social media, self‑promotion, and the real reason most women won't put themselves out there. Hint: it's not what you think. Niro brings clinical insight. I bring the Disney World story and a strong opinion about cringe. What You'll Learn in This Episode: What it costs a family long-term when the mother is the only one who doesn't invest in herself Why trying new things is directly connected to cognitive health, brain development, and joy How humility and confidence can coexist (the C.S. Lewis definition that will change how you think about showing up) The real fear behind social media self-promotion and how to do a cost-benefit analysis on it Why "climbing Cringe Mountain" might be the most important thing you do for your calling this year What perimenopause actually does for your ability to stop people-pleasing Why your 40s and 50s are not the beginning of the end Timestamps: (00:52) - What it costs a family when mom is the only one not being invested in (01:11) - The modeling problem: what your kids are learning by watching you (02:00) - Maintaining your identity beyond being a mother and partner (02:41) - Why trying new things matters more than we think (04:04) - The brain science behind learning new things (and Niro's hatchet throwing story) (06:18) - Why Alli takes clients to Disney World twice a year (08:15) - The Mother's Day vs. Father's Day double standard nobody talks about (08:57) - What to say to the woman who has no real reason not to invest in herself (09:43) - The permission exercise: what would you say to a woman you love? Leveling Up: Creating Everything From Nothing with Natalie Jill
Tired of choking down pills and wondering if any of it is showing up? Transdermal could be the answer. The Patch Method bypasses our digestion and liver completely. Super easy, just slap it on. Code NATALIEJILL for 20% off at http://thepatchmethod.com PLUS… DM "NatalieJill" to @the.patchmethod on Instagram and the first 50 people will receive a free patch kit of their choice plus four free samples. What if the drawer full of supplements you have been faithfully taking every morning is actually making your liver work harder without making you feel any better? If you have ever walked out of a functional medicine or naturopathic appointment with a list of twelve supplements, spent hundreds of dollars filling that order, and then showed up to your next appointment still deficient in the very things you were supplementing, you are not alone. And according to Lindsey Burwell, founder of The Patch Method, you are also not the problem. Lindsey was one of my most talked-about guests ever, and she is back for part two because your questions did not stop after our first conversation. Today we go even deeper into why swallowing supplements is often a losing game for midlife women, and what transdermal delivery actually does differently at a physiological level. We cover the science of first-pass metabolism and why your liver, already under enormous strain from modern life, is simply not prioritizing breaking down your vitamin C. We talk about what "pill fatigue" really is and why it is only getting louder. And we get into the specific patches Lindsey has developed, including the detox patch, the cortisol fix, the menopause patch, and the one I have been waiting to try: the GHKCU copper peptide glow patch, which has serious research behind it for skin regeneration, hair growth, and cellular repair. I also finally get Lindsey to walk me through why the injectable version of that copper peptide causes that intense, all-day throbbing sensation, and why the transdermal version sidesteps that entirely. Spoiler: it comes back to dose. If you have MTHFR or a slow COMT and have had bad reactions to methylated B vitamins, Lindsey explains exactly why the patch form does not cause that same stimulant response. We also dig into who should and should not be using these patches, how to stack them, and why you do not have to give up the supplements that are already working for you. This is one of those episodes that makes you want to go audit your entire supplement cabinet. WE GO DEEP ON: Why your liver may be working 3,000x harder than it used to Why supplements are dosed at 10,000% of your daily need What actually happens to a pill before it reaches your bloodstream Why MTHFR carriers react badly to B vitamins in pill form, not patches The detox patch protocol for clearing excess estrogen on HRT Why the GHKCU injectable causes all-day throbbing, and the patch doesn't What 90 days of copper peptide use can do for hair and skin The adaptogen blend behind some of the best sleep scores Lindsey has seen Whether you can stack multiple patches at once Who should never use these patches Catch the full episode on YOUTUBE HERE: https://bit.ly/MidlifeConversationsYouTube Learn More About Lindsey Burwell Instagram ➜ http://www.instagram.com/the.patchmethod Website ➜ http://thepatchmethod.com use code NATALIEJILL to save Free Gifts for being a listener of Midlife Conversations! The 42 Journeys of Life – Part 4: Middle AgeThe Quiet Question of Midlife: Is This All You Are Meant to Be?How do you reach the Promised Land? Each of us carries dreams, aspirations, goals, and a vision of the life we hope to build. We all seek success, fulfillment, happiness, and purpose. But what is the path that leads us there? Is there a map for navigating life's twists and turns? The Torah's answer is yes. Before the Jewish people entered the Promised Land, they traveled through the wilderness, passing through forty-two distinct journeys. These journeys were not merely historical events; they are the blueprint for every human life. Each of us must travel our own wilderness, facing challenges and setbacks, triumphs and breakthroughs, moments of uncertainty and moments of inspiration. In this fourth installment of our seven-part series, The 42 Journeys of Life, we arrive at the pivotal stage of Middle Age—the season when many begin to hear the quiet but persistent question:"Is this all I am meant to be?"Having traversed the first twenty journeys—the formative years of childhood, the excitement of growth, and the early challenges and struggles that shape our character—we now enter a new chapter. A chapter of reflection, reassessment, and deeper self-discovery.Every stage of life brings its own lessons and opportunities. The key is to recognize where you are on the journey, understand the unique challenges of that stage, and learn how to navigate them with wisdom and purpose.Join Rabbi Simon Jacobson as we explore the next phase of the wilderness journey and discover how every step, every challenge, and every transition is part of a greater path—leading us toward our own Promised Land: the fulfillment of our mission and the actualization of our deepest potential.
You know her. Hell, you might be her. You've got a husband, a group chat, 800 Facebook friends, and somehow you can't remember the last time someone asked about your actual life instead of your Instagram grid. This week I'm talking about my third persona, Faye — the one who looks the least lonely and might be the loneliest of all. I get into the stats (loneliness is worse for you than obesity, yes really), why your 50s quietly wreck your social life, and the play-by-play of how I made a friend at a restaurant without exchanging a single phone number. In this episode: Why Faye is the sneakiest persona of the four The loneliness stats nobody wants to look at What changes in your 50s and 60s that nobody warns you about My real-time "Faye in the wild" story from a restaurant (rocks glass included) Why making friends as an adult feels exactly like bad dating The one tiny move that actually rebuilds connection Overview of all personalities https://kimbarnesjefferson.com/do-you-identify-as-busywhy-you-wear-busy-like-a-badge-and-what-its-actually-costing-you/ Take the quiz: which persona are you — Brenda, Tammy, Faye, or Iris? https://kimbarnesjefferson.lpages.co/fflpersonaquiz_podcast
Gray hair is having a moment, and it's not what you think. Chalene Johnson is breaking down the hair trend that's saving women time, money, and countless hours in a salon chair. Plus, why midlife women are absolutely dominating the influencer space right now, and what Bethenny Frankel's jaw-dropping income confession says about the future of brand deals. Then there's the Beckham family drama that's got everyone talking, but not for the reason you'd expect. Brooklyn Beckham's very public distancing from his parents is shining a light on a trend that's quietly playing out in therapy offices and family group chats everywhere. Going low contact is a term you're about to hear a lot more of, and Chalene shares exactly where she stands on it. Recorded from Paros, Greece, this episode also includes a quick update on what Chalene and Bret have been up to, a travel confession involving an unfortunate amount of cheese and bread, and a new watercolor hobby that somehow turned into a $300 art haul. You're eating "pretty well." You're moving your body. So why does it feel like your muscle is disappearing and your effort isn't paying off the way it used to? In this episode, I sit down with Liz Plosser, former editor-in-chief of Women's Health and a woman who has spent her entire career reporting on health and fitness, to talk about what changes in midlife and why the old rules stop working. Then we go deep on amino acids, what they actually are, why your body becomes less efficient at using them as estrogen declines, and why an essential amino acid supplement might be one of the smartest, simplest things you can add to your routine. We also break down the real difference between amino acids and creatine, why BCAAs may not be worth your money, and how to build a stack that actually fits a real life, not a biohacker's spreadsheet. If you've ever felt like your body stopped responding to the things that used to work, this episode will explain why, and more importantly, what to do about it. In This Episode, We Cover: How perimenopause changed Liz's approach to fitness after decades as a cardio-focused marathoner Why muscle loss accelerates in midlife and what that means for your metabolism, strength, and aging The injury that led Liz to fall in love with strength training and chase a 280-pound deadlift PR Why it's okay to want to look strong, lean, and confident, not just "healthy" What essential amino acids are and why your body can't use protein without all nine Why women become less efficient at absorbing amino acids from food as estrogen declines The difference between amino acids and creatine, and why you likely need both Why branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) may not be worth the hype or the money New research on creatine and brain health, including higher doses on high-demand days How to build a simple, realistic daily protein and supplement routine, especially if you're on a GLP-1 Who This Episode Is For This episode is for the woman who feels like her body just isn't responding the way it used to, no matter how "right" she's doing things. It's for women in perimenopause and menopause who are confused about protein, curious about amino acids and creatine, or tired of conflicting advice from every corner of the internet. It's also for anyone on a GLP-1 medication who needs a realistic way to protect muscle while eating less. Midlife is not a time for hiding behind the polished, people-pleasing version of yourself. It’s time for your unique voice to be heard. If you’ve spent decades shrinking to fit, staying quiet to keep the peace, or letting everyone else define what “good enough” looks like, this episode is your permission slip to stop. This week I’m diving into the V in the L.O.V.E. Method — Value Your Uniqueness — and what it really means to claim the identity that belongs to you in this season of life. I share a personal story about underpricing my own work that taught me more about worthiness than any coaching program ever did. I’ll walk you through practical ways to uncover the gifts you’ve been taking for granted, and I close with a live light language transmission to help release what’s been keeping your true voice quiet. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a clearer picture of who you are, what you bring, and how to let that be the foundation of your next chapter. In this episode, you'll discover: Why so many women learn to hide their light long before midlife — and how that pattern quietly follows you into your 50s and 60s The real cost of not valuing your own talents, told through a four-year story about underpricing my copywriting services A simple but powerful exercise for uncovering the gifts you've been taking for granted How journaling, testimonials, and honest feedback from people who know you can reveal your unique value A live light language transmission to help release old blocks around worthiness Resources & links mentioned: Download your free L.O.V.E. Have you ever wondered if you missed God's plan for your life? Maybe you're in midlife and looking back at opportunities you didn't pursue, dreams you set aside, or mistakes you wish you could undo. Perhaps you're asking yourself, "Is it too late for me?" In this encouraging episode, Pam shares a powerful reminder: God's purpose for your life does not come with an expiration date. Whether you're 45, 55, 65, or beyond, God is still at work. He is still calling, growing, and using women who are willing to say "yes" to Him. Join Pam as she explores biblical examples of men and women who stepped into God's plan later in life, why your past does not disqualify you, and how your greatest season of influence may still be ahead. If you've been feeling stuck, overlooked, or uncertain about your next step, this episode will inspire you to stop focusing on the clock and start focusing on the One who called you. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why God's calling doesn't expire in midlife The lie many Christian women believe about age and purpose How Moses, Abraham, Sarah, and Caleb demonstrate God's perfect timing Why your past mistakes don't disqualify you from making an impact How God uses your experiences, challenges, and victories to influence others Practical encouragement to take your next faithful step Why your greatest influence may still be ahead of you Key Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 3:11 Joshua 14:10-12 Jeremiah 29:11 Romans 8:28 Key Takeaway: If God still has breath in your lungs, He still has purpose for your life. Hannah's work uses doubly labelled water data, considered the gold standard for measuring total daily energy expenditure in real-world conditions. This allows researchers to understand what people actually burn across the day, beyond estimates from fitness trackers, calorie equations, or short-term lab measures.Mikki and Hannah discuss the idea that metabolism is “stable” from 20 to 60, whether menopause uniquely affects energy expenditure, why body fat can increase even when scale weight stays the same, and why preserving fat-free mass becomes increasingly important with age. This is a nuanced, evidence-based conversation for anyone interested in metabolism, midlife body composition changes, and what ageing really means for energy needs.https://www.pbrc.edu/research-and-faculty/faculty/cabre-hannah.aspxHannah E. Still tired in midlife… even when you're trying to eat healthy? In this episode of the Hello Hormones series on Fit & Fueled by Faith, I'm sharing what I personally eat in midlife to support energy, hormones, strength, and overall wellness. Because what worked in our 20s and 30s often stops working in midlife and many women are left feeling exhausted, frustrated, and confused about what their body actually needs now. In this episode, we talk about: • Why nutrition changes in midlife • The importance of protein for women over 40 • Balancing blood sugar and energy • My pescatarian, Mediterranean-inspired approach • Simple ways to nourish your body without restriction This isn't about perfection. It's about learning to support your body with wisdom and grace.
For our very first guest on the The Live Like a Girl podcast, I sat down with the woman who taught generations of us how to take back our financial power: Suze Orman. Here's why I had to start here. I spend my life helping women with hormones, weight loss, menopause, and underneath almost all of it sits one thing – cortisol. And when you scratch beneath the “cortisol surface,” so often what you find is money stress. So I brought in the icon herself to talk about what's really keeping women sick and stuck, and what to do about it.We get into self-worth and net worth, why women hand over their financial power, the spender-to-saver shift, divorce and the sandwich generation, the truth about your home and your car, what AI is about to do to all of us, and the money moves that matter most in 2026. Suze also shares her origin story – from waitress to financial icon and I know it will light a fire in you. This one is a masterclass. So bring a notebook and get ready. If you're wanting the deeper dive on exactly how to invest now, we're giving you a special offer of Suze's Masterclass: suzeorman.com/drmindyFor more resources related to today's episode, visit the podcast episode page: https://www.drmindypelz.com/ep345/ More on Suze Orman:Website: suzeorman.comInstagram: @therealsuzeormanYouTube: @suzeormanFacebook: Suze OrmanLinkedIn: Suze OrmanConnect with Dr. Mindy:Join Reset AcademyWatch the episodes on YouTubeFollow Dr. Mindy on InstagramSubscribe to Dr. Mindy's newsletter for tools and research on fasting, hormones, and metabolic healthDisclaimer: This podcast is intended for educational and informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Have you ever looked around at your family, friends, and the people you love most and wondered, Why do I still feel lonely? If you're in midlife, you may be surprised by how often this feeling shows up—even when nothing seems wrong. In this episode, I share some of my own experiences with loneliness during this season of life, including the transition of my daughter leaving for the Navy, changing family dynamics, evolving friendships, and the quiet emotional shifts that often happen in midlife. We talk about why loneliness isn't always about being alone, how grief and transition often fuel these feelings, and how God can use these moments to reveal deeper needs, bring healing, and guide us into new seasons of connection. OVERVIEW: If you are a woman in your late 30s, 40s, or 50s and you feel like every workout has to leave you exhausted to “count,” this episode is for you. For years, women have been taught that harder is better, more sweat, more intensity, more calories burned, and more HII. In midlife, your body often needs a smarter strategy, not more punishment. In this episode, I am breaking down Zone 2 cardio and why it can be such a helpful tool for women over 35. Zone 2 is a lower to moderate intensity form of cardio that supports cardiovascular health, metabolic health, recovery, fat oxidation, and longevity. This does not mean Zone 2 replaces strength training or that HIIT is bad. It simply means Zone 2 can be a valuable part of a well-designed plan, especially for women who are already juggling stress, busy schedules, hormone shifts, poor sleep, and demanding workouts. Inside this episode, we cover: What Zone 2 cardio is and how it should feel Why Zone 2 matters for women in midlife How it supports metabolism, recovery, and longevity Why more intensity is not always better after 35 How to know if you are training in Zone 2 How often to include it in your weekly routine Common mistakes women make with cardio The biggest takeaway is that you do not need to destroy your body to get results. You need the right strategy. Zone 2 cardio is one of those boring basics that can make a big difference when used consistently and in the right context. It pairs beautifully with strength training, daily movement, protein-focused nutrition, sleep, and recovery. If your current approach has been random workouts, too much intensity, or constantly chasing calories burned, this episode will help you rethink how you are using cardio in this phase of life. Dr. Beckett welcomes Graig Miller (Mid-Life Cards) and his dad, Michael, discussing why they collect, the appeal of old “artifacts” cards, and the imagined journey of items like an 1888 N76 Thomas Edison. They contrast collecting “lanes,” with Michael focused and Graig boundary-pushing, and explain why value matters less to them because they built collections with “hobby money” through buying, grading, selling, and trading. Greg shares what his daughters learn from the hobby about preservation and respect for tangible items amid disposable culture. They discuss Pokémon's boom, relevance risks for all collectibles, and handling criticism by staying accessible and focusing on constructive feedback. They close with parenting advice emphasizing fairness, consistency, trust, and being present. 00:36 Collecting as Artifacts 02:19 Finding Your Lane 03:31 Hobby Money Strategies 05:11 Kids and Life Lessons 07:57 Pokemon Boom Debate 10:33 Handling Criticism 15:02 Fatherhood Advice
Available NOW - listen to the free introductions of my NEW courses - Re: Identity and Re: Purpose - both are available now on the Kajabi app/website.Listen now Re: Identity click hereListen now Re: Purpose click hereThank you so much for being here!!I saw a post that said how people often make the mistake of expecting our friends to fill all of our friend needs, when really, the happiest people recognize that our friends each represent a piece of our identity. Recently, I was lucky enough to have all three of my closest friends together. It made me realize how different friends often represent different parts of our identity and life journey. While childhood, college, and early parenthood naturally create opportunities for connection through proximity and shared experiences, midlife friendships require much more intention. As children grow up, careers evolve, and life becomes busier, many of the structures that once made friendship effortless begin to disappear. The episode examines the difference between quantity and quality in relationships, challenges the pressure created by social media's portrayal of friendship, and reminds listeners that there is no single "right" way to build community. Whether you have one close friend, a large friend group, or are still searching for deeper connections, meaningful relationships are built through vulnerability, consistency, and a willingness to reach out.Ultimately, this is a conversation about being seen, supported, and remembered. It is a reminder that the people who walk beside us through life's transitions become keepers of our stories and help us stay connected to who we are, even as we continue to grow and change. If you're doing all the right things and still feel tired, wired at night, and stuck with weight that won't budge around your middle, this episode is for you. Most women think cortisol is just about stress. And friend, that is not the whole story. You can be managing your schedule, saying no when you need to, keeping your life under control, and your cortisol can still be running high all day long without you ever feeling stressed. I lived in that exact state for years and had no idea. I just thought the exhaustion, the belly weight, the brain fog, and the three a.m. wake-ups were my normal. They weren't. That was cortisol, and nobody warned me it was happening. In this episode, I'm walking you through what cortisol actually is, why it's not the villain it gets made out to be, and the five things that are really keeping it elevated. Most of them have nothing to do with feeling stressed. We'll talk about why chronic dieting quietly traps you in a loop that makes everything worse, what perimenopause does to your built-in calming hormone, and the real priority order for bringing your cortisol back down so your body can finally let go of what it's been holding onto.Whether you've been dieting for years, you're navigating perimenopause, or you're just tired of trying harder and getting nowhere, you deserve the whole picture. Your body is not broken. It's communicating.
What is still possible in midlife? Many of us reach our forties, fifties and sixties assuming that the major chapters of our lives have already been written. Careers are established, habits are set, and the opportunity for significant change may feel increasingly limited.Jeffrey Weiss challenges that assumption. At the age of 48, he ran his first 10-kilometre race. In the years that followed, he completed Ironman Arizona twice, finished a 72-mile ultramarathon, and embarked on a successful new chapter in his professional life that culminated in a multi-billion-dollar startup exit.In this conversation, we explore the power of healthspan, the value of audacious goals, how fitness can transform both body and mindset, and why it's never too late to embrace a new challenge.Jeffrey is the author of Racing Against Time: On Ironman, Ultramarathons, and the Quest for Transformation in Mid-Life.EnergyBits algae snacksA microscopic form of life that could help us age better. Dr. Beckett welcomes Graig Miller (Mid-Life Sports Cards) and his father Michael. They discuss Graig's new book, Midlife Card Çollecting Stories, and the growth of his YouTube channel and podcast into a network. Michael describes Graig as naturally shy and reflects on how they both approach teaching and coaching, emphasizing meaningful communication over performance. They compare collecting styles: Michael's narrow focus on rebuilding and grading his childhood 1959–1960 Topps sets and gradually moving earlier, versus Greg's eclectic interests including 100+ year-old cards and vintage golf cards. Michael explains returning to the hobby through taking his kids to 1980s card shows and later reconnecting with Graig after losing his wife. They highlight the special value of a reclaimed childhood card with Michael's name, the actual card from his childhood, and discuss collecting driven by passion, personal goals, and community rather than competition or card value. 00:43 Graig's Hobby Journey 02:51 Teaching and Coaching Style 05:54 Collecting Focus Differences 10:08 Reclaiming a Childhood Card 12:07 Hobby as Side Gig 15:40 Golf and Healthy Competition
According to Dr. Vonda Wright, almost everything we believe about aging and muscle loss is wrong. The research that told you to expect decline was built on populations where 70 percent of participants barely moved. Which means the trajectory most of us are bracing for is not biology. It is behavior. You do not have to be a statistic.Dr. Vonda Wright is an orthopedic surgeon, researcher, and the founder of PRIMA, the Performance and Research Initiative for Masters Athletes at the University of Pittsburgh. She has spent her career studying what happens to the body when people stay active, not what happens when they don't. Her book, Unbreakable: A Woman's Guide to Aging with Power, distills what that research actually shows about muscle, bone, hormones, and aging in midlife. What you will explore in this conversation:The three MRI images that upended what we thought we knew about aging muscle, a visual comparison between a sedentary 74-year-old, an active 70-year-old, and a 40-year-old, that has become widely shared because of what it shows about what is actually possible.Menalescence, Dr. Wright's term for the hormonal, physiological, psychological, and social upheaval of perimenopause and menopause, and why naming it the way we named adolescence changes how women advocate for themselves in the doctor's office. The musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause, a connection between estrogen loss and total-body joint pain that has been documented in medical literature since 1925, is still not taught in most medical schools. The critical decade from 35 to 45, why this window is the highest-leverage moment for building the physical body you will have for the rest of your life, and exactly what to do if you are past it.Why lifting heavy is not optional for women in midlife, and what four reps, four sets actually does for strength and power that lighter lifting cannot. How much protein you actually need, why the math most people do is probably too low, and the leucine argument for animal protein. If you have been told that your MRI findings, your arthritis, your bulging disc, or your bone density numbers mean you cannot or should not lift, this conversation is for you.You can find Vonda at: Website | Instagram | Episode TranscriptNext week, I am sitting down with Sari Botton to talk about why the life you keep putting off might be the most honest thing about you — and what it actually takes to stop waiting for permission to live it. Researchers found people who ate these 9 foods consistently had brains that aged 7.5 years slower. Not a supplement stack, not a protocol, not a hack. A pattern of real food that keeps showing up across decades and across the world. It's called the MIND diet, and it's what we're breaking down in this episode. We explore the scoring system behind the MIND diet with a registered dietician who came to brain health through her own mother's Alzheimer's diagnosis, and who has spent 20 years helping real women in real kitchens make these changes stick. In this episode, you'll learn: What the MIND diet actually is: a hybrid of the Mediterranean and DASH diets built at Rush University to target brain health specifically, and why the acronym uses the word "delay," not "reversal" The 10 brain-healthy foods and 5 foods to limit, and why the scoring system rewards you for progress, not perfection: full adherence lowered Alzheimer's risk by 53%, and even moderate adherence cut it by 35% Why leafy greens are the single most consistent finding in the field and the one change worth making first How berries, beans, nuts, olive oil, and omega-3s each contribute to the pattern, and why frozen and canned versions count just as much as fresh The problem with the term "ultra-processed food": why yogurt, tofu, and soy milk get mislabeled, and how a dietician actually talks to clients about it Why the protein conversation has gotten louder than the evidence: what 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram actually looks like, and why 150 grams a day is not a universal target Why wine was quietly dropped from the MIND diet recommendations and what the current evidence says about alcohol and brain health Midlife as a metabolic inflection point: why perimenopause and menopause change the equation for cardiovascular and brain health, and why it is not too late to start The 2024 Lancet Commission report adding LDL cholesterol as a modifiable risk factor for dementia, and when diet alone is not enough to manage it A week-one assignment: one leafy green every day for seven days, then build from there Barbie Boules is a registered dietician with more than 20 years of experience in women's health and brain health nutrition. Midlife gets a bad reputation. We're often told it's a crisis, something to survive or push through. But what if it's actually an invitation to rebuild? In this episode, I share the unglamorous but powerful foundations that are helping me navigate midlife with more clarity, resilience, and peace. I open up about the daily habits and practices that have become non-negotiables in my life—from meditation and movement to nourishing my body, setting healthy boundaries, and doing the deeper internal healing work. None of these tools are flashy, but together they've helped me create a stronger foundation that supports the life I truly want. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about what's next, I hope this conversation reminds you that you don't need to blow up your life to create change. Sometimes the most meaningful transformation comes from strengthening the basics. In this episode, you'll learn: Why I see midlife as a construction zone, not a crisis How meditation has transformed the way I respond to life The role movement plays in emotional and physical well-being Why boundaries are essential for creating a healthier life How gratitude and joy help create lasting change If you're ready to build a stronger foundation for the next chapter of your life, I'd love to hear from you. Kathy Mela spent 45 years in the NICU before becoming The Grief Navigator. Her take on grief will probably surprise you. Because she's not just talking about loss through death. She's talking about the grief of an empty nest, a career that ends, an identity you outgrow, a version of yourself you quietly left behind. In this conversation, Kathy breaks down why so many of us are walking around with unnamed grief and what it actually looks like to move through it. We get into the difference between sorrow and grief, why anger and disconnection are often grief in disguise, and a framework for navigating any life transition with more self-compassion and less self-judgment.

Coffee First Thing, Fasted Workouts, and Why Your Morning Routine Is Wrecking Your Hormones in Midlife Morning fatigue isn't just about bad sleep — the first hour of your day shapes your hormone balance, metabolism, brain fog, and energy. Have you ever done everything "right" — fasted workout, coffee on an empty stomach, fasting until noon — and still felt more exhausted and anxious than ever? In this solo episode, I break down why those wellness habits are cortisol-wrecking chaos for a midlife woman. They were built for a twenty-five-year-old man's body, not yours. I'll walk you through six science-backed things to do before 9 AM that actually match your physiology, plus a twenty-minute version for busy mornings. Key Points The one simple swap that changes how women feel more than almost anything I recommend — and why order matters more than the habit. Why that "I can't function without coffee" feeling isn't an addiction — it's a hormonal clue most women miss. The reason your thyroid labs keep coming back "normal" while you still have every symptom of an underactive thyroid. How one client lost weight and got her energy back with six small morning swaps. We connect the dots between cortisol, the HPA axis, blood sugar, thyroid function, and metabolism — so you can finally understand why the "healthy" things you're doing might be working against you. Stop wasting time (and money) on products that don't work. My Trusted Brands Guide is the exact list I share with my private clients — the skincare, supplements, food, and wellness tools that have been tested and proven to deliver results. No fluff. No guesswork. Just the brands you can finally feel good about using. ✨ Plus, I scored exclusive discounts from some of these companies just for my community.

Started strong, then quietly stopped and judged yourself for it? You’re not alone. In this episode, I confess my status as a midlife self-saboteur when it comes to food and my business – and the fear of success hiding underneath it all. Plus, you’ll hear about five simple tools I’m employing to help myself and other self-saboteurs get off the hamster wheel, one day at a time. If you’ve ever set a goal with the best of intentions, made real progress, and then watched yourself quietly slide back into old patterns, this episode is for you. We’ll talk about why self-sabotage after 50 often isn’t a willpower problem at all. Sometimes it’s fear of failure. Or fear of success. Together, we’ll move through the emotions that come with this kind of honesty: frustration, shame, relief, and ultimately hope. I’ll walk you through the tools I’m using right now to interrupt the cycle and close with a light language transmission to help release whatever might be keeping you stuck. Wherever you are in your own cycle of starting and stopping, I hope this conversation reminds you of something important: you’ve done this before, and you can do it again. In this episode, you'll discover: Why self-sabotage often shows up as a fear of success, not a fear of failure — and what to do when you notice it A simple 5-minute pause practice (I use the Triple Flame app) to interrupt emotional eating or procrastination before it takes over How to use curious, non-judgmental journaling to uncover what’s really driving a behavior you want to change A mirror affirmation practice to remind yourself: you’ve succeeded before, and you can succeed again Why “one day at a time” might be the simplest and most powerful tool for breaking any cycle — in your health, your business, or your life Resources & links mentioned: Triple Flame app (created by the team behind The Gene Keys) — used for guided 3/5/10-minute pause practices Soulful Women’s Network — free Facebook community: bit.ly/soulnetwork Related podcast episode – Midlife Habits that Stick: Start Small, Stay Consistent Design Your Life, Your Way – next steps: Book a 1:1 Light Language session: bit.ly/LLEpodcast30 If this episode spoke to you, leave us a review. This week, Carla and Dex are back with one of those conversations that somehow starts with body changes in your 40s, detours through parenting philosophies, and lands in some of the biggest questions women ask themselves in midlife: What happens when you stop trying? The episode opens with a candid catch-up on life lately empty nesting, dating, career pivots, raising neurodivergent children, fitness goals, and figuring out who you are when the roles you've always identified with start to shift. As both women navigate very different seasons of motherhood, they reflect on what it means to build a life that feels full beyond work, relationships, and parenting. They also dive into the growing backlash against "gentle parenting" and explore the difference between parenting with empathy and parenting without boundaries. Carla and Dex unpack how their own childhood experiences shaped the way they parent today, what they've had to unlearn, and why self-awareness may be one of the most important parenting tools we have. The conversation takes a heavier turn as they discuss the tragic Carmelo Anthony case and the devastating consequences that can come from a single moment of conflict. Through the lens of motherhood, they explore accountability, self-defense, emotional regulation, and the difficult realities of raising children in today's world. Later, things lighten up with a hilarious womanhood segment featuring dating hot takes, relationship boundaries, attraction red flags, and a few questions that reveal just how different and how similar their views on love, intimacy, and relationships really are. But the heart of this episode centers around a listener letter from a woman who admits she's emotionally checked out of her marriage and feels relieved about it. Together, Carla and Dex explore the difference between burnout, resentment, emotional numbness, and knowing when a relationship may have reached a crossroads. They discuss therapy, communication, perimenopause, and the importance of being honest with yourself before making life-changing decisions. Because sometimes the question isn't: "Should I leave?" Sometimes the question is: "When did I stop showing up?" In This Episode: The unexpected realities of your 40s Empty nesting and rediscovering yourself Gentle parenting vs. permissive parenting Breaking generational parenting patterns The Carmelo Anthony case and accountability Dating standards that change with age Relationship red flags we once thought were attractive Why emotional numbness can be a warning sign Marriage burnout vs. relationship disconnection Perimenopause and its impact on relationships Learning to communicate before resentment becomes permanent CONNECT WITH US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: CARLA WILMARIS | DEX
If you've been eating less, exercising more, and still experiencing unwanted body changes, this episode is for you. Natalie Jill, a Licensed Master Sports Nutritionist and functional fitness trainer, joins Dr. Stephanie for a peer-to-peer conversation between two women in the fitness industry who have seen the same broken patterns and concluded that the plan most women follow is not suitable for them. Natalie's journey from rock bottom to 13 magazine covers in her 40s and 50s was not due to a better diet plan, but rather a complete overhaul of her False Assumed Truths (F.A.T.). She discusses the mechanics behind why chronic cardio is counterproductive in midlife, the accelerating bone loss caused by ellipticals, the falsehood of three sets of twelve, and the necessity of changing beliefs before any protocol can work. Why do so many people reach midlife feeling disconnected from themselves? In this powerful and deeply human conversation, Brian Dixon — known professionally as Dixon — shares his journey from quiet misalignment and emotional drift to reclaiming purpose, courage, and authenticity later in life.Dixon, is an adventurer, author, speaker, and founder of The Someday NOW Project, a human re-engagement movement dedicated to helping people reconnect with purpose, energy, and the parts of themselves they may have lost to burnout, routine, and misalignment. After a life-threatening pulmonary embolism following a mountain bike accident, Dixon realized the life he was living no longer aligned with who he truly was. At 52 years old, he trained for two years before launching a paraglider solo off Lookout Mountain in Colorado, a moment that became symbolic of reclaiming his voice, identity, and future.Today, Dixon helps individuals, leaders, and organizations recognize the signs of disengagement and reconnect with meaningful action, ownership, and authentic living. He is the author of Hold My Beer: I'm Going Back in the Game.Together, we explore:why so many men silently struggle in midlifethe emotional cost of always playing the provider or superhero rolewhat Dixon calls the “Man-Zombie Epidemic”the importance of challenge, adventure, and authentic livingand how reconnecting with yourself can completely change your lifeThis episode is deeply honest, inspiring, and relevant for anyone who has ever felt disconnected from themselves or stuck living a life that no longer fits.Find Dixon Here:gowithdixon.com/facebook.com/DixonColoradoRealtorlinkedin.com/in/briandixonstoryteller/youtube.com/@LiveWhereYouPlayTVBook:Hold My Beer: I'm Going Back In The Game - https://gowithdixon.com/#container16Find Marisa online:Website: https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmarisaleenaismith/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drmarisaleenaismith/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/marisa.lee.12YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@avoiceandbeyond3519/videosResources:MLN Coaching Program: https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/mentoring/Schedule a Free Clarity Call: https://calendly.com/info-56015/discovery Gratitude Journal: https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/product/in-gratitude-my-daily-self-journal/Download your eBook: Thriving in a Creative Industry: https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/product/ebook-thriving-in-a-creative-industry-dr-marisa-lee-naismith/Like this episode?
