It's odd that one of our listeners' favorite frequent guests is an atheist: Jonathan Haidt. And yet, it's not really that unusual because Haidt, though not a believer, is perhaps the world's foremost thinker on issues Christians face every day: the digital war on our attention spans, how technology is making us anxious, how removing obstacles and pain-points from our children hurts them, and why we all seem to hate each other so much. This week, Dr. Moore welcomes back social psychologist Jonathan Haidt to ask him how things have changed in recent months in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and its impact on faith communities. Haidt—author of The Anxious Generation, The Coddling of the American Mind, and The Righteous Mind—shares his latest observations and updated insights since we last spoke. This is a fresh new conversation, building off of the previous ones. As the digital world shifts at breakneck speed, Haidt offers new analysis on what he's witnessing on the front lines: how smartphones and social media are reshaping our capacity for prayer and Bible reading, the escalating influence of TikTok and short-form video, and emerging concerns about AI in church settings. From practical questions about phone-free churches to broader concerns about protecting children in digital environments, this conversation bridges scientific insight with pastoral care. You'll hear Haidt's surprising predictions about AI's future, discover which social media platform he considers most harmful, and learn his single most important piece of advice for church leaders seeking to preserve human connection in our high-tech age. This is an essential dialogue for anyone concerned about reclaiming our ability to pay attention, think deeply, pray meaningfully, and build authentic community in an era of endless digital distraction. On last week's episode of Unsupervised Learning, Razib spoke with Alex Nowrestah, a vice president at the Cato Institute and a strong advocate for expanding legal immigration. This week, he turned to the other side of the debate with Jason Richwhine, a resident scholar at the Center for Immigration Studies and a vocal supporter of sharply reducing immigration. Richwine earned undergraduate degrees in mathematics and political science from American University, and later a Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard. Before joining CIS, he served as deputy director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and worked as a senior policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation. The conversation begins with an overview of the dramatic swings in U.S. immigration policy under Biden and Trump. Both note the surge of the foreign-born population in the early 2020s, with the unauthorized share now estimated at 15-16 million. Richwine faults Biden for lax border enforcement and the abuse of parole programs, and points to the comparative effectiveness of Trump's Remain in Mexico policy. He also presses the case for a moratorium, arguing that even legal immigration must be scaled back to sustainable levels. Razib and Richwine weigh the economic and cultural consequences of high-skilled immigration and close by considering whether meaningful reform is politically possible in the years ahead.

In January, the popular Chinese social media app TikTok went offline for its 170 million Americans. The outage marked a turning point in a long-running dispute over data privacy and national security, with US lawmakers concerned about the app's Chinese ownership. A law passed by Congress required ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, to sell its US operations or face a ban. Although ByteDance did not meet the deadline, the newly inaugurated President Trump postponed enforcement, introducing a timeline for a potential sale. That deadline has since been extended multiple times, with the current cutoff now set for 17 September. But with complex negotiations still underway and Beijing reluctant to approve any deal, Trump has signalled he may grant yet another extension leaving the app's fate in the US uncertain. This week on The Inquiry, we're asking: Is it time up for TikTok in the US?Contributors: Alan Rozenshtein, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Dr Joanne Gray, Senior Lecturer in Digital Cultures in the Discipline of Media and Communications at the University of Sydney Anupam Chander, Professor of Law and Technology at Georgetown University Isabella Wilkinson, Research Fellow in the Digital Society Initiative at Chatham House Presenter: David Baker Producer: Matt Toulson Researcher: Maeve Schaffer Editor: Louise Clarke Technical Producer: James Bradshaw Production Management Assistant: Liam Morrey
The policy environment in the US at the moment is challenging, but developers, utilities, and investors are still moving forward with decarbonisation goals and climate action; they're just talking about it and approaching it in a different way. As RE+ (North America's biggest clean energy event) kicks off, Sylvia Leyva Martinez talks to veteran climate journalist and cleantech investor Molly Wood, about the ways in which the industry is navigating the uncertainty. Molly talks about the outdated forecasts of 1–2% load growth which are being blown apart by real demand increases of up to 30% in some regions, driven by electrification, AI, and data centers. If you can't make it to the event this year, Interchange Recharged will bring you the key discussions and exclusive insights so you don't miss out. You'll hear why traditional load forecasts are being upended by surging demand from AI and data centers, and what that means for project planning and risk management. Despite policy headwinds, the money is still flowing, but in smarter ways: into scalable tech like batteries, grid modernization, and distributed solutions. Investors are refocusing on scalable, commercial-ready technologies like batteries, grid modernization, and distributed energy solutions. And as the narrative shifts from using terms like “net zero” to the more pragmatic “energy dominance,” the conversation explores how storytelling shapes strategy, and why hyperscalers like Google and Amazon may even build their own small modular reactors or power islands to secure the future of energy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

AI is everywhere in application security today — but instead of fixing the problem of false positives, it often makes the noise worse. In this first episode of AppSec Contradictions, Sean Martin explores why AI in application security is failing to deliver on its promises.False positives dominate AppSec programs, with analysts wasting time on irrelevant alerts, developers struggling with insecure AI-written code, and business leaders watching ROI erode. Industry experts like Forrester and Gartner warn that without strong governance, AI risks amplifying chaos instead of clarifying risk. This episode breaks down:• Why 70% of analyst time is wasted on false positives• How AI-generated code introduces new security risks• What “alert fatigue” means for developers, security teams, and business leaders• Why automating bad processes creates more noise, not less

In this thought-provoking episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey dive into the complexities of artificial intelligence and its impact on human relationships, work, and spirituality. They continue their discussion from the previous week, sharpening their focus on the socio-economic reasons behind AI's rapid growth and its ethical implications.Joe opens the conversation by exploring how AI is often implemented to replace high turnover roles rather than enhance employee productivity or improve workplace conditions. He raises concerns about using AI as a substitute for ethical treatment of employees, emphasizing that enhancing productivity should not come at the cost of human relationships and well-being. Automation, while beneficial for producing goods, should not be a means to avoid accountability for treating employees with dignity and respect.Father Boniface offers a spiritual perspective, reminding listeners that work's intrinsic value lies not in the outward results but in its ability to form character and virtue in individuals. He emphasizes the eternal significance of personal growth over material production, advocating for an economy that centers around people rather than profits. The episode explores the ancient wisdom that human dignity and relationships must remain paramount. With anecdotes from sales and real-world applications of AI, Joe and Father Boniface discuss how an ethical application of these technologies can serve humanity. They caution against reducing people to mere production agents, a theme resonant with historical reflections from Pope Leo XIII and Pope John Paul II, urging listeners to consider how automation should be integrated thoughtfully into both personal and professional spheres. In a world where AI can deliver B+ answers, they argue, the objective shouldn't be to automate love and human interaction. Instead, they propose fostering environments where development is experiences-based, incorporating AI as a tool rather than a replacement for personal engagement. Father Boniface shares his unique experiences of leveraging AI for personal intellectual growth while maintaining the primacy of human relationships and critical thinking. As the episode concludes, Father Boniface and Joe reinforce the notion that the economy should pivot around human growth and ethical practices—not monitory gain. Encouraging listeners to engage in thoughtful dialogue and explore AI's potential responsibly, they hope to inspire a culture that truly values love and human interaction above technological efficiency.Tags:AI Discussion, Automation, Human Relationships, Spiritual Growth, Ethical AI, Artificial Intelligence, Economic Impact, Work Ethics, Podcast Discussion, Father and Joe, Technology and Humanity, Moral Philosophy, AI Ethics, Labor and AI, Workplace Well-being, Team Dynamics, Human Dignity, Pope Francis, Pope John Paul II, Sales Ethics, Personal Growth, Spiritual Reflection, Podcast Episode, Father Boniface, Joe Rockey, Love and Production, Human-Centered Economy, Virtue Development, Intellectual Growth, AI Mistakes, Public Discourse, AI Advisory, Tech in Society, Socio-economic Debate, Moral Implications, AI Integration, Ethical Conversations, Understanding AI, Relationship Building, Modern Challenges, Hashtags:#ArtificialIntelligence #AIandEthics #HumanRelationships #AutomationImpact #SpiritualGrowth #WorkplaceEthics #PodcastDiscussion #FatherAndJoe #TechAndHumanity #MoralPhilosophy #AI #EconomicImpact #LaborAndAI #Teamwork #HumanDignity #PopeFrancis #PopeJohnPaulII #SalesEthics #PersonalGrowth #SpiritualReflection #PodcastEpisode #LoveAndProduction #HumanCentered #Economy #VirtueDevelopment #IntellectualGrowth #PublicDiscourse #AIAdvisory #TechSociety #SocioEconomicDebate #MoralImplications #AIIntegration #Conversations #UnderstandingAI #ModernChallenges #CommunityGrowth #EthicalAI

In this episode of Mark and Pete, we tackle three heavyweight stories shaking politics, business, and sport. First, Angela Rayner's resignation sparks chaos inside the Labour Party and raises serious questions about Sir Keir Starmer's leadership. Is Labour heading for unity or a full-blown civil war? Next, we turn to Elon Musk, who could become the world's first trillionaire thanks to Tesla's audacious targets and his relentless drive. What does this say about incentives, ambition, and the staggering concentration of wealth in our age? Finally, we reflect on the passing of Joe Bugner, the legendary British-Australian heavyweight boxer who fought Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, and became a symbol of grit, endurance, and immigrant success. From Westminster's power struggles to Silicon Valley's mega-money, and from the bruising world of boxing to questions of legacy, this episode blends wit, insight, and biblical reflection. Politics, money, and sport collide — but what really matters when the final bell rings? Send us a textStorytelling is the heartbeat of nonprofit fundraising - and now, AI is giving organizations new ways to capture and share those stories while still keeping a human touch at the center. In this episode of The Small Nonprofit Podcast, Maria Rio sits down with Gustavo Zylberberg, Co-founder and CEO of Vitalcy, an AI-powered alumni engagement platform helping nonprofits reconnect with their communities, strengthen relationships, and unlock new donor support. AI Storytelling in Nonprofits - The Highlights: Bandwidth is the biggest barrier Most nonprofits are not resisting AI - they are just stretched too thin to explore it. Lack of time and staff capacity is the real challenge. AI strengthens community ties When used well, AI can capture and amplify personal stories that reconnect alumni or past participants with a mission, turning memories into renewed engagement and donor support. Fear is normal, but not permanent Nonprofits may hesitate because AI feels overwhelming or too big. Starting small and experimenting is the best way to push past fear and discover practical value. Ethical storytelling still matters most AI can make processes faster, but human review and dignity safeguards are critical. Technology should enhance authenticity, not replace it. AI is an enabler, not a replacement Just like the internet transformed nonprofit work, AI is becoming part of daily operations. But the human relationships at the heart of fundraising will always remain.
