The 2025 International Mars Society Convention convened at the University of Southern California this October for three days of passionate discussion about humanity’s future on the red planet. Speakers explored science, policy, technology, AI, synthetic biology, and the long-term path toward becoming a multi-planet species. In this episode, Mat Kaplan, senior communications adviser at The Planetary Society, shares his conversations with speakers and guests at the Convention. We hear from Robert Zubrin, founder of The Mars Society, who delivered a fiery call to protect NASA’s science programs in the face of unprecedented budget cuts. Humphrey “Hoppy” Price, Chief Engineer for NASA’s Robotic Mars Exploration Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, updates us on the future of Mars Sample Return and new mission architectures. Keynote speaker Dex Hunter-Torricke, a longtime communications leader for SpaceX, Meta, and other major tech organizations, reflects on AI’s promise and peril, and why Mars remains a beacon of hope for humanity’s future. Biologist and technologist Tiffany Vora, vice president for innovation partnerships at Explore Mars, and Erika DeBenedictis, biologist and founder of Pioneer Labs, reveal breakthroughs in synthetic biology and engineered microbes that could help future Martians survive. Steve Benner, chemist and founder of the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution (FfAME), revisits the Viking lander experiments and makes a provocative case that we may have found Martian life nearly 50 years ago. Architect Melodie Yashar, CEO of AENARA and a pioneer in 3D-printed habitat research, shares progress in additive construction on Earth and Mars. James Burk, executive director of The Mars Society, discusses advocacy, analog research stations, and the organization’s expanding international footprint. Finally, we meet Sasha, a 13-year-old presenter whose enthusiasm offers a bright glimpse of the next generation of explorers. We wrap up the show with What’s Up with Bruce Betts, chief scientist at The Planetary Society, with a discussion of perchlorates in the Martian soil. PREVIEW — Elizabeth Peek — Trump's Embrace of AI and Crypto Viewed as Essential Against China. Peek defends Donald Trump's strategic alignment with cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence technology sectors against partisan criticism characterizing this relationship as favoring billionaire elites over working-class economic interests. Peek argues that American technological leadership in AI is strategically critical to national security and economic competitiveness; ceding dominance in artificial intelligence development to China would allow Beijing to establish global technological standards and dictate the future architectural framework governing digital civilization. Peek contends that Americaninnovation leadership in transformative technologies represents essential rather than ancillary to working-class prosperity. 1870

Special Guest Curt Tueffert www.peaksalesstrategy.com   Welcome back to Podcast Profits Unleashed — the show dedicated to helping coaches turn podcasting into a powerful client attraction system, whether you're behind the mic or showcasing your expertise as a guest. Today, I'm joined by sales leader, keynote speaker, and author Curt Tueffert, whose mission is simple: help people close more deals with confidence. His book, Five Stones for Slaying Giants, is built on the idea that, just like David and Goliath, we're all facing “giants” in our business — fear of selling, unclear messaging, or believing no one wants what we offer. Curt shares how these “stones” — Passion, Excellence, Vision, Value, and Confidence — become tools we can actually use to eliminate the inner blocks that keep us stuck. What I love most about Curt's approach is that he doesn't try to turn coaches into stereotypical pushy salespeople. Instead, he helps them become curious problem-solvers whose goal is understanding — not convincing. Using assessments like DISC and Sales IQ, Curt helps individuals and teams pinpoint where their confidence and communication skills need strengthening, then builds progress through small, repeatable wins. One of the biggest insights from this episode? Today's buyers are already far down the decision path before they ever speak to us. Technology and AI are handling the early research and comparisons — which means that when a prospect finally shows up, what they need most is a human conversation. Curt shows us how to leverage AI as a support tool — for prep and research — while relying on our emotional intelligence, listening skills, and trust-building to guide the sale across the finish line.   Key Takeaways: I realized that our biggest sales giant is often our own self-doubt — not the market or the competition. Shifting from transactional sales to consultative conversations is the real difference-maker. Discovery is the one step AI can't replace — human curiosity creates trust. Asking open-ended, behavior-aligned questions unlocks motivation and momentum. Your personal uniqueness — your voice, your story, your insight — is what helps you stand out in crowded markets. And before we wrap up, I share an important tip on how your podcast guest appearances become your long-term SEO digital footprint. You're going to want to use that!

Have you heard the saying before: find what you love, get so good at it that no one can ignore you, and you will never truly work a day in your life? But what if that same passion could also fuel your productivity, your purpose, and your impact on the world? In this episode of the Productivity Smarts Podcast, Gerald J. Leonard sits down with Suzanne Smith, founder and CEO of Social Impact Architects, educator, speaker, and changemaker, for a conversation that blends purpose, productivity, and real-life resilience. Suzanne shares how finding your calling can turn work into something that feels effortless, and why helping others might be one of the most powerful productivity boosts available. They unpack her simple but powerful 4T Framework: Time, Talent, Treasure, and Testimony, showing how generosity doesn't drain your energy, it actually multiplies it. You'll hear how gratitude can literally rewire your brain, why "doom scrolling" is quietly exhausting your focus, and how shifting toward "hope scrolling" can change your emotional and mental state. Suzanne also shares smart strategies for energy management, creating healthy technology boundaries, and building a sustainable rhythm that protects against burnout. From building calm out of chaos to learning how to reset after tough days, this conversation is packed with wisdom you can use right away. If you have ever felt pulled between doing meaningful work and staying personally fulfilled, this episode will remind you that the two can absolutely fuel each other.  What We Discuss [00:00] Introduction to Suzanne Smith [06:01] Finding your calling and early influences [08:53] Purpose as the engine of performance [09:22] The helper's high and scientific research [10:43] 4T Framework: Time [12:42] 4T Framework: Talent [13:17] 4T Framework: Treasure [14:13] 4T Framework: Testimony [16:23] Gratitude and brain science [18:41] Hope scrolling vs doom scrolling [21:47] Technology diet and energy management [26:05] Diet, health, and productivity [32:41] The value of feedback and mentorship [42:30] The third place and community [45:46] Closing and where to find Suzanne   Notable Quotes [06:04] "I am a big believer in finding your calling, and I was lucky to find mine at a very early age."– Suzanne Smith [07:05] "I jokingly say to my students, I've never worked a day in my life because this is not a job. "One of the other important things about tech humanism to me is that the three-way relationship between business humans and tech is primarily about the relationship between business objectives and human outcomes and using technological capability to amplify that alignment, as opposed to using technology to amplify only the business objective side of that relationship. So really trying to think about how does a business meet the humans that it serves, and then how can technology be part of making that more effective and more successful so the business can succeed and the humans can have a better experience on the other side of that success." Kate O'Neill on Electric Ladies Podcast  Technology has infiltrated every aspect of our lives, yet do we really understand its relationship with humans? Everybody's talking about and wrestling with understanding artificial intelligence – AI – in their business, governments and lives, but not everyone understands the intersection between technology and the human experience. How can we maximize it? Listen to self-described "tech humanist" Kate O'Neill, CEO of KO Insights and an advisor on these issues, including to the United Nations AI Advisory Board, in this fascinating conversation with Electric Ladies Podcast host Joan Michelson at the 2025 Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. You'll hear about: ●        Why humans are at the core of everything: "You're never more than a degree away from people downstream of the decisions that you're making." ●        Questions matter: What are the questions boards and leaders should be asking instead of just collecting data and making decisions as if humans are not affected? ●        How can we leverage AI to address climate change? It's about a range of factors, both impact of the technology itself and how it can be leveraged to help humans. ●        Plus, insightful career advice:   "It's anybody's guess, on some level, what the next set of jobs that AI implementations will displace are going to be. But what I think we can feel fairly confident about for the time being is that soft skills, the soft skills that we've all been told are those we need to cultivate. Like context intelligence, emotional intelligence, good judgment, communication, those kinds of things are incredibly important no matter what. And the great thing about this for the question that you ask, is that women have been socialized to be stronger in those skills in general. So we already have an advantage when it comes to that." What if students saw themselves not just as learners, but as world builders, empowered to design, problem-solve, and imagine new possibilities through playful learning? In this episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education Podcast, hosts Dr. Cindy Burnett and Dr. Matthew Warwood dive into the dynamic potential of game-based learning and world-building with guests Stephen Slota and Trent Hergenrader. Together, they unpack how treating students as designers—rather than passive recipients of information—fosters creativity, critical thinking, and authentic engagement. Drawing from their experiences as educators and co-authors of The World Building Workshop, Stephen Slota and Trent Hergenrader share insights on leveraging narrative, choice, and playful contexts to deepen learning, regardless of technology access or subject area. The conversation explores the difference between true game-based learning and surface-level gamification, emphasizing the power of agency, narrative, and exploring “messy,” real-world problems. Listeners will gain practical insights on aligning classroom activities with learning goals, infusing creativity, and adopting a facilitator mindset. Whether you're game-curious or an experienced educator, this episode highlights how world building can transform classrooms—and help students make meaningful connections to their own lives.   Guest Bios Stephen Slota Stephen Slota is an educational technologist, learning theorist, and interactive storyteller. He has directed major projects for organizations like CVS Health, Pfizer, and Arizona State University, where he explores how game mechanics and narratives can enhance engagement, creativity, and learning. In this episode of The TechEd Podcast, host Matt Kirchner sits down with Irv Blumkin, Chairman of Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM), and Ryan Blumkin, Executive Vice President, to unpack nearly 90 years of retail innovation, from Mrs. B's pawn-shop beginnings to multi-acre campuses in Omaha, Kansas City, Dallas, and soon Austin. They explore what it's like to partner with Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway, build massive destination developments, and still obsess over every single SKU and customer interaction. From dynamic pricing and AI-enabled operations to a mind-blowing learning trip through China's retail and technology ecosystem, Irv and Ryan share how NFM is using data, automation, and emerging tech to deepen their moat, without ever losing sight of values, culture, and long-term thinking. They also talk careers in retail tech, why young “outside-the-box” thinkers matter, and the role of lifelong learning in leading through disruption. Listen to learn:Why Warren Buffett bought Nebraska Furniture Mart on a handshake, and what Irv has learned from decades of dinners and deal-making with himWhy strong values and culture matter more than ever in this tech-driven marketplaceHow NFM uses massive-store footprints, destination partners like Scheels, and even hotel/convention centers to turn shopping into an experienceHow dynamic pricing, digital shelf tags, and nightly web crawls of 70,000+ SKUs keep NFM competitive with Amazon, Costco, Wayfair, and othersWhat Irv and Ryan saw in China's tech companies and how those lessons are shaping NFM's future3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. Timeless values can scale into a $2 billion business. Mrs. B's simple principles (sell at a great price, tell the truth, and pay your bills) still anchor NFM's strategy, even as the company builds 1.8 million-square-foot campuses and expands into new markets like Austin. Irv connects those values directly to long-term growth, customer trust, and the family's partnership with Berkshire Hathaway. 2. Technology is now core infrastructure, not an add-on. NFM's nightly web crawling, digital price tags, and dynamic pricing systems automatically position them as the best value against online competitors, while complex distribution networks and emerging AI tools optimize inventory and logistics. Ryan frames this as building a “moat” with data, automation, and relentless operational excellence, not just more advertising. 3. Lifelong learning is mandatory for modern leadership. Irv has invested in executive education for decades, and both he and Ryan describe their China trip as “eye opening” in terms of speed, scrappiness, AI adoption, and asset-light business models. They're already translating those lessons into new e-commerce strategies, warehouse automation concepts, and AI-enabled process improvements back at NFM. Resources in this Episode:Learn more about Nebraska Furniture MartOther resources mentioned:Six Days in China: The Speed, Scale and Innovation Outpacing the U.S. - Podcast episode with Todd WanekMORE LINKS & RESOURCES ON THE EPISODE PAGE: https://techWe want to hear from you! Send us a text Anthony Freda is an accomplished educator, artist, and activist whose creative journey shaped by moral reckoning and bold shifts in perspective ultimately led him to Jesus and a renewed focus on Christian art. A tenured professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Freda has built a distinguished career as an award-winning illustrator, with work featured in major publications such as The New Yorker, Time, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. His art is showcased in a permanent exhibit at the 9/11 Memorial, and he has been honored by The Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, and American Illustration. Known for his provocative, politically charged imagery, Freda blends vintage American ephemera with modern commentary, using his work as a platform for cultural critique and creative activism. His StoryHe began his career in advertising, notably working on the infamous Joe Camel campaign. When the FTC ruled the campaign illegal for marketing cigarettes to children, Freda experienced a profound moral awakening that led him to leave advertising behind. He went on to work with prestigious publications such as The New York Times and The New Yorker, but it was his work on an OpEd piece for The New York Times promoting the Iraq War that sparked another ethical reckoning. Realizing he had gone from selling cigarettes to selling war, Freda transitioned once more, joining the early alternative media movement in the 2000s.Freda's work has often pushed boundaries, both politically and artistically. His art is part of the permanent collection of the 9/11 Museum and Memorial in New York, where his piece is one of the only works that questions the official narrative of the events of 9/11. His ten-year tenure with Infowars as an illustrator and writer further cemented his place in the world of controversial alternative news, and he has been vocal about his role in the space.Freda's work, especially his art, continues to stir debate. In 2024, an author in Germany faced legal consequences for simply posting one of his book covers on social media, and Freda himself has been extensively censored for his dissent against the official COVID-19 narrative. He has even been flagged as a potential domestic terrorist for his critical stance and controversial imagery. One of his most notable works is a covert illustration for The Wall Street Journal in 2025, where he secretly adorned Xi Jinping's tie with skull motifs as a subtle critique of global politics. In 2024, Freda worked as an illustrator and media consultant for RFK Jr.'s Super-Pac, AV24, further cementing his role in the political and media landscape. However, in recent years, Freda has pivoted his artistic focus towards Christian art. After decades of political commentary, he now sees the battle as spiritual and has committed to dedicating much of his creative work to Christ, producing original pieces as a devotion to his faith.Freda is also working on an ambitious project called Jesus Park, a sculptural earthen garden designed as a peaceful space for prayer and meditation. The project aims to provide a tranquil setting for spiritual reflection and devotion. To explore his ongoing projects, including his Christian art, visit his website: AnthonyFreda.com, https://www.instagram.com/anthonyfredaart/,The Thought Crimes of Anthony Freda - Book PreviewConnect with Angie Taylor on:IG: https://www.instagram.com/mrsangietaylor/?hl=enFB: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090424997350
