The problem with the device we keep in our pocket is, it just wants to get engaged in some random thing, and it calls you to do that. So if you, for instance, have a specific reason to go on, then do that. And if there are specific things you can mine out of that huge pile of randomness that say, "This is something I'm working on," for instance, maybe there are some things about how to be articulate. Pick all those things and put them in a separate file somewhere else. So then, when that habit, that urge, comes up, like, "I have to look at things," it's "Okay, only look at this," because you already decided this is what you're going to look at. This is what I'm cultivating something because there's a specific skill I'm trying to develop. Go here. Don't just go to the random site. When you get used to that, then your mind becomes more and more disciplined. If you don't have some parameter and it just goes at the whim of your mind, then your mind becomes more and more flabby. And then when you try to chant, it's just randomness. There's no sense of control of the mind, or what Krishna describes as vyavasāyātmikā-buddhi—the fixed intelligence. So that, that's my suggestion. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

On July 14, 2015, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft made its historic flyby of Pluto, transforming our understanding of this distant world. Ten years later, we’re celebrating that iconic moment and the mission that made it possible. We begin with Alan Stern, principal investigator of the New Horizons mission, who reflects on the mission’s origins, its most surprising discoveries, and what comes next as New Horizons continues its journey through the Kuiper Belt. Then we check in with Adeene Denton, NASA postdoctoral program fellow at the Southwest Research Institute, who just returned from the “Progress in Understanding the Pluto System: 10 Years After Flyby” conference held at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Adeene shares highlights from the event, which brought together scientists to explore new results from New Horizons, JWST, Hubble, and ground-based observatories on Pluto, Charon, and the broader Kuiper Belt. Finally, Planetary Society Director of Government Relations Jack Kiraly joins us with a major update on the ongoing fight to protect NASA science from devastating budget cuts. And don’t miss What’s Up with our Chief Scientist, Bruce Betts. We’re talking Arrokoth, the most distant Kuiper Belt object New Horizons visited after Pluto. What drives us to seek revenge, and why does it feel so satisfying yet leave us worse off? Guy Kawasaki sits down with James Kimmel Jr., a lawyer turned behavioral science researcher who presents a radical reinterpretation of revenge in our society. Kimmel argues that much of what we call justice-seeking is actually a dopamine-driven revenge cycle that perpetuates violence and suffering rather than solving problems.Drawing from his personal experiences as a youth and examples from history's most notorious leaders, Kimmel explores the neuroscience behind revenge addiction and introduces revolutionary concepts like the "non-justice system" - a method for breaking free from compulsive revenge-seeking behavior. His latest book, The Science of Revenge, combines legal expertise with cutting-edge brain research to reveal why forgiveness, not retaliation, is the key to healing and moving forward.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode, Matt and Luigi sit down with serial entrepreneur Russell “Sean” Languedoc, founder of Outforce.ai. Sean pulls back the curtain on why most outsourced tech projects tank, how agency bait-and-switch happens, and why understanding cultural nuance is just as important as coding expertise. Here's what you'll hear: ✅ Why most outsourced engineering projects fail ✅ The dirty secret behind agency bait-and-switch tactics ✅ How Outforce.ai built a database of 79,000+ agencies to find the right fit fast ✅ Cultural breakdowns: Why “right away” means different things around the world ✅ Sean's entrepreneurial pivots from oil fields to ad tech to global outsourcing ✅ The power of due diligence (and how Outforce makes it foolproof) ✅ GTM Fund's role in scaling SaaS companies with real revenue leaders Who is Sean? “So I'm in Chicago, I've quit my job, I've almost run out of money. You know, you're young, you don't care. And I met Robert, who's now my co-founder. He had mixed a CD of mine a couple of years before through friends of friends. So we meet up, have a beer, and then he's like, ‘Oh, you know, I'm spending all this money on IT every month,' because he was a sound engineer. And he's like, ‘But we've got this thing called the internet, right? I thought, ‘I've got 1 MB internet in my studio, why can't I use that? It's free.' And I was like, ‘Yeah, let's do it.' And because I, you know, had been doing software development and the internet, it just made sense. The two of us really bonded, and I went home to New Zealand and he stayed in Chicago, and we built Source-Connect.” – Rebekah Wilson This episode's guest is the co-founder, technical director, and CEO of Source Elements, and has worked for over twenty years with customers and industry partners like Avid and Dolby. Since the release of their pioneering remote audio app Source-Connect in 2005, she's advocated for the benefits of remote collaboration in all sorts of areas, including sound engineering, voice acting, music performance and production, film and cinema production, and education.Originally trained as a composer, she's now a software developer and expert in the fields of music technology and networking, and, as a New Zealand native, she understands very well how important it is to stay connected no matter where we are. Her name is Rebekah Wilson, and you'll want to hear what she has to say about how Source Connect is making our creative lives easier, what it's like being a woman in a male-dominated field, and where she sees this technology going in the future. (0:00:01) - Musical Journey to Tech InnovationWe start off with Rebekah's early memories of her father playing the guitar, and how it helped spark her love of music. “I must have been four or five,” she tells us, “and I can see the house that we were living in at the time. So, yeah, around their age and um, just those lovely, warm feelings.” She shares her experience growing up in New Zealand and how quickly things changed as the internet began to connect the world. “I went out and told everybody,” she explains, recalling the day she learned about Princess Diana's passing on a web forum. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God.' And they're like, ‘How do you know? The internet? What, that's crazy!' And so it was like one of those first moments of finding out that you can connect to the rest of the world with this medium.”(0:11:06) - Navigating Gender Dynamics in TechRebekah shares her journey from orchestral composer to tech entrepreneur in the ‘90s, and just how much things have changed for women since those early days. “I went in for the job interview and, uh, they, they show me where the programmers work,” she explains. “It's a dark room in the middle of the building with no...

Is economic growth just about money, trade, and GDP? Or is something deeper at play? In this episode, economist W. Brian Arthur and physicist Cesar Hidalgo join Nick and Goldy to reveal the real drivers of rising prosperity: human knowledge, know‑how, and innovation. They challenge the old assumptions of growth and argue that innovation isn't a byproduct of a strong economy—it's a cause of economic growth. Once we understand that, it changes how we think about investing in people and shaping the economy. Part of our Back‑to‑Basics summer series. Essential listening for anyone who believes that growth should empower people, not enrich the status quo. This episode originally aired January 15, 2019. W. Brian Arthur is an economist and complexity theorist, renowned for his work on technology and innovation. A longtime researcher at the Santa Fe Institute and former Stanford professor, he's the author of The Nature of Technology, in which he argues that economic growth stems from evolving combinations of existing technologies. Cesar Hidalgo is a physicist, professor at the Toulouse School of Economics, and Director at the Center for Collective Learning at Corvinus University of Budapest. He's also the author of Why Information Grows, where he explores how knowledge and know-how shape economies, arguing that real prosperity comes from embedding insights in people and collaborative networks. Summary: In this thought-provoking follow-up conversation, Dr. Michael Easley welcomes back Brett McCracken, senior editor at The Gospel Coalition and co-editor of Scrolling Ourselves to Death. Together, they explore the cognitive and spiritual costs of living in a hyper-digital world—highlighting a recent MIT study showing a 47% drop in neural connectivity among heavy AI users. Brett echoes these concerns, drawing parallels between the atrophy of our cognitive muscles and the slow erosion of deep thinking and spiritual formation.  The two unpack the historical role of technology, likening today's AI revolution to the disruptive power of the printing press, urging Christians to approach emerging tools with discernment, not blind adoption. They delve into the "information-action ratio," a term coined by Neil Postman, explaining how modern digital overload floods us with global crises we cannot act on—fostering anxiety and detachment from our local communities. Brett emphasizes the need to reconnect to embodied, local ministry and to resist the curated echo chambers of social media. For both pastors and congregants, the call is clear: return to real relationships, physical Bibles, and rooted discipleship. This episode is a timely challenge to think deeply, live locally, and be formed more by truth than by trends. Takeaways: MIT found a 47% drop in neural connectivity in AI users—proving our brains are thinking less. Technology is not neutral; it forms us and often distorts how we read, think, and relate. The "information-action ratio" explains why we're more anxious than ever—we're informed but powerless to act. Christians must focus on embodied, local ministry rather than digital distractions and global noise. The church should reclaim sacred spaces—encouraging physical Bibles and device-free worship. Social media forms us into echo chambers, but the church should form us into Christlikeness through challenge and community. In this special summer episode of the Remarkable Retail podcast, recorded live at the CommerceNext Growth Show in New York, we welcome Jeannie Yoo, CEO of Draper James, for a wide-ranging conversation on the brand's growth trajectory, the power of celebrity in retail, and the rise of human-centric retail experiences.Jeannie brings two decades of fashion retail experience to the table, from her early days at Michael Kors and Coach to leading the luxury house Adam Lippes. Now nine months into her role at Draper James, Yoo is steering the Southern-rooted lifestyle brand—founded by Reese Witherspoon—through its next stage of growth, marked by its 10th anniversary "decade tour" and a sharpened focus on customer connection.Yoo discusses how Draper James defies the "digitally native" label, thriving through retail stores, with licensing and pop-ups that foster personal, local, and sensory experiences. While the brand's celebrity origin story is foundational, Yoo emphasizes how its growth is now powered by inclusive pricing, joyful storytelling, and a culture of Southern hospitality. Reese Witherspoon remains involved, but the brand is scaling under Yoo's operational leadership and with the backing of Consortium Brand Partners.Central to the conversation is Yoo's take on "human-centric retailing"—a strategy rooted in community engagement, elevated in-store experiences, and product innovation informed by customer passions for gardening, books, and food. She describes how Draper James curates joy through both product and experience, emphasizing quality over quantity in an era of fashion abundance. Technology, particularly AI, plays a role, but not the leading one. The focus, she notes, is on enabling smarter, more efficient work—not replacing human intuition or creativity.Looking ahead, Yoo sees North American expansion—especially retail and licensing—as the brand's most significant opportunity before tackling global markets. She also reflects on her leadership style, which has been forged in both large organizations and niche luxury brands, allowing her to scale thoughtfully without losing the emotional resonance that makes Draper James special. In this episode of Music Evolves, host Sean Martin sits down with luthier and artist Cindy Hulej of Cindy Guitars to explore how reclaimed wood from historic New York buildings is transformed into custom electric guitars—each one uniquely shaped by memory, material, and imagination.Craft as InnovationCindy's process at Carmine Street Guitars isn't just about building instruments—it's about listening to what the material has to say. The beams salvaged from landmarks like the Chelsea Hotel and John Lennon's former home aren't just structural—they carry decades of vibration, weather, and presence. That physical history directly shapes how these guitars sound, feel, and resonate—offering a kind of analog innovation rooted in human touch and intention.Cindy describes how she and her husband Johnny repurpose old beams, often salvaged from 1800s-era buildings, and transform them into guitars that are not only playable but deeply resonant—physically and emotionally. The aged wood, shaped by centuries of seasonal change, yields a tone that's warm and chimey, with a resonance modern lumber can't match. “You're working with material that's already lived a hundred lives,” she explains. “You just have to unlock the next one.”Creativity Beyond ConventionEach guitar is made by hand, down to the smallest detail. From collaborating with boutique pickup winders to mixing finishes from shellac flakes, Cindy builds instruments that are both sonic and visual statements. No two are alike—because the creative process isn't about repeating perfection, it's about shaping something personal and alive. Whether players come with a precise vision or just a feeling, Cindy helps translate that into tone and form.Reimagining the Past to Shape the FutureThis isn't just about guitars. It's about the convergence of history, artistry, community, and sound. This episode challenges the idea that innovation must come from new tech or flashy trends. Sometimes, the most meaningful advances come from rethinking old materials and techniques.Cindy's guitars are a form of living history—reminding us that sound isn't just produced, it's inherited, interpreted, and carried forward. And, Cindy's path from bartending to building some of the most soulful instruments in New York is a reminder that craft isn't just skill—it's commitment to meaning.About Rick Kelly and Carmine Street GuitarsCarmine Street Guitars, located in New York City's Greenwich Village, is a hand-built electric guitar workshop led by legendary luthier Rick Kelly. Known for using reclaimed old-growth wood from historic buildings across the city, Rick has built instruments for renowned musicians such as Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, and many others. His approach blends time-honored techniques with a reverence for the city's past, crafting guitars that are as storied as the musicians who play them. At the heart of the shop's ethos is a commitment to individuality, craftsmanship, and sonic integrity—values continued today through Cindy Guitars and the growing creative community within the space.SponsorsAre you interested in sponsoring this show or placing an ad in the podcast?Sponsorship
