Sony Interactive Entertainment, the company behind the iconic PlayStation brand, today announced it is to open an office in Dublin, with plans to hire 100 employees to staff the new operation. The establishment of this office is supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland. After serving for nearly 18 months as the Department of Defense's first-ever customer experience officer in the Office of the CIO, Savan Kong earlier this month parted ways with the Pentagon. Previously a member of the Defense Digital Service during his first tour of duty with the DOD, Kong helped build the department's CXO office from scratch, fostering a culture that prioritizes the needs of service members, civilians, and mission partners and striving to streamline governance processes, improve transparency, and ensure that IT solutions meet operational needs. Kong joins the Daily Scoop for a conversation to share the progress his office ushered in to improve customer experience for DOD's personnel, where things are headed under this administration and how AI will impact the CX space. FedRAMP is getting another overhaul, one that will involve far more automation and a greater role for the private sector, the program's chief announced Monday. Through FedRAMP 20x, the General Services Administration-based team focused on the program aims to simplify the authorization process and reduce the amount of time needed to approve a service from months to weeks, Director Pete Waterman said during an Alliance for Digital Innovation event. The private sector will also have increased responsibility over monitoring of their systems, he noted. In a critical change, agency sponsorship will — eventually — no longer be necessary to win authorization. As a first step, FedRAMP has launched four community working groups, which give the public a chance to share feedback, and focus on creating “innovative solutions” to formalize the program's standards. But in the meantime, Waterman said existing baselines will remain in place and there are no immediate changes to the program. Details are starting to trickle in about how the Trump administration and its new DOGE will look to use tech modernization as a driver of efficiency in the federal government. But there's still uncertainty about how the new administration will address some key topics, like AI, cybersecurity, the tech workforce and more. Last month, the Alliance for Digital Innovation issued a set of tech priority recommendations for the Trump White House and sent an open letter to the DOGE, offering guidance on how to best approach the federal tech landscape. Ross Nodurft, the executive director of that coalition and former head of the Office of Management and Budget's cybersecurity team, joins me to discuss what those suggested priorities are, how Congress could play a role and how the DOGE, regardless of politics, could shine a welcome spotlight on improving the state of federal technology. Also: Just hours after the Trump administration took office Monday, the president signed a flurry of executive orders, many of which are likely to have significant impact on federal technology operations. Most notably, Donald Trump signed orders to claw back Joe Biden's executive order on artificial intelligence and called for a return to office for federal employees. Trump's repeal of the AI EO didn't come with any policy replacing the Biden administration's, which established a roadmap for the federal government to address the growing technology while managing risks. Meanwhile, Trump's new order for a return to in-person work called for agency leaders to “take all necessary steps to terminate remote work arrangements and require employees to return to work in-person at their respective duty stations on a full-time basis.” Trump also issued an order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Fresh from the floor of CES 2025, I grabbed about 10 minutes each with two brilliant minds in technology and innovation who shared fascinating insights about where we're headed in this AI-driven world for a fast but powerful bonus episode. Andrew Klein, who leads creative technology and innovation at PMCI (Publicis Media Content and Innovation Team), dove straight into how generative AI is becoming increasingly woven into our daily lives. His most striking observation? "I think we're going to have more conversations with AI, potentially, than we would with people. Especially when you think about digital communication." What do academics have to offer that practitioners do not already have? They have the data academics want. They can analyse it by themselves, sometimes better than academics. They are also not reading our articles. So why would academics bother engaging with them? Why should we even bridge that perceived or existing gap between theory and practice? Because academics need to dip their toes into practice, and they need to mingle with industry to stay relevant. So says Jonny Holmström, director and co-founder of the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation.
