How to Find Ideal Clients With Paul Kennedy We all have clients. Sometimes we have great ones, and we call them our ideal clients. Other times we have some of the bottom-of-the-barrel, less-than-ideal clients. It might be a bit noisy or a bit squeaky, and frustratingly, the squeaky wheel gets the grease a lot of the time. We've got Paul Kennedy from PGV Consulting, and we'll talk about how to find ideal clients and remove the terrible ones. Get more tips on how to find ideal clients at dorksdelivered.com.au How Do You Identify An Ideal Client How do you identify a bad client? Start With Your Why Paul: I'd like to start with the “Why” and focus on what we have previously discussed about Simon Sinek. I love what Simon Sinek is about, and most of your listeners will be familiar with him. Paul: If you find out your “Why”, your purpose, why you're doing what you're doing, it could be a mixture of both business aspirations and personal ones. Particularly if you're self-employed, it's good to blend the two because your personal life and your business life have to live in harmony with each other. Paul: If you focus on your “Why”, it gives you your passion as to why you're really doing this. For instance, I'm an accountant by qualification. That doesn't necessarily mean that I actually really want to do accounting, especially a few years down the track. My “Why” was not to be an accountant, and that kind of led me to where I am. Paul: Working out your “Why” makes the other questions—your “What”, “How”, “Where”, and “When” so much easier. It's like picking up the correct piece of the jigsaw first. Once you've done that, the rest of it follows much more easily. Paul: Most of us meet and start off by asking, "What are you doing?" In my case, I'd perhaps start telling you about accounting, but it's not where I really want to spend my time and perhaps not where other people want to spend theirs. Nirvana: Ideal Clients Seek You Out Paul: I've got a few beliefs. One of them is Nirvana. It is when you get your business to the point where your ideal clients are actually seeking you out. Paul: Once you've reached Nirvana, it means you're in a very privileged position. If somebody is looking for somebody in your field and they know what you can do and what you've done for others, they will come to you and it won't be all about price. It will actually be because they want Josh Lewis to look after their business, their IT. You change the relationship, and it becomes one where they actually want you. It's not an argument or discussion over price. Have a Business Plan Paul: I am also a great believer in a business plan. I think it's very unwise to start a business unless you have a plan. It doesn't mean you have to be fixated on it, but it gives you some sort of general direction to where you want your business and career to go. Once you've started on that journey, that will lead you to who your ideal clients are and what makes them ideal. How Do You Identify a Bad Client? Who is Your Ideal Client? Paul: Identify the criteria and the things that make up your ideal client—the people who value, respect, and actually act on your advice. Paul: A non-ideal client would be someone who neither respects, values, nor acts on your advice. They might still be paying you, but from your perspective, it would be very frustrating to give them your best advice but they do not actually act on it. Think About Your Criteria Paul: I encourage people to think through what are the criteria of your ideal clients. It is actually quite helpful to spend a bit of time identifying the traits of non-ideal clients. Paul: I often encourage people to think of a situation they might have had where they won two clients, they're driving home, and they're pretty happy and excited. They're particularly excited about winning Client A. They're a bit lukewarm and cool about having Client B. Paul: I encourage people to think through what were the traits of Client A that got you excited, and what were the traits of Client B that made you feel a bit cool about it (I've won them, but I'm not sure this is going to go the way I hope it does)? The more you can drill down on that, the more it will help you identify the clients you want and those you don't want. Should You Keep a Non-Ideal Client? If you've just started in business, the expenses are being covered, and there's food on the table, is it okay to stick with bad clients if removing them will mean that you're no longer financially healthy? Paul: We obviously need to be and want to be financially healthy. It perhaps comes down to timing as to how long you might bite your tongue and continue working with somebody who's not an ideal client. How do you deal with a non-ideal client? Think About Increasing the Price Paul: All of us in business invariably have some clients that we perhaps don't want. You can have a very direct conversation and say, 'Look, perhaps I'm not the best person for you.' We could do it by increasing your price to be unattractive to people who are not ideal clients. That's something that we've learnt, so we changed around our business model from charging per hour to charging a flat rate per month. In 2009, we're charging $55 or $85 an hour. In 2010, we changed the business model around to per month. One of our clients didn't want to pay per month. I told them that with the number of hours they're doing with us, they're going to be saving money in three months on average. But they were not interested, so I went from $85 to $110 to $150 to $200 an hour before they agreed to go per month. We were making heaps less money, but they were fitting in with the model and how we wanted our business to work. And they were happier with that because then it was back to less than what they were originally paying, so it worked out for everyone. Paul: If you really don't believe that this is the sort of business you want to be working with a particular client, increasing your price so that you're unattractive is one way of doing it. Be Upfront Paul: It's not a bad idea to be even a bit more upfront and simply say, 'I don't think I'm the right person for you.' You were talking about different ways to terminate a contract with a client. We've done this before as well. We've noticed that the businesses that we're working with are getting bigger and bigger. One of them was going in a different direction and was more interested in running a home network for the 40 employees as opposed to a business network. We said that's not really what we do and we're more than happy to put you in contact with someone that works with businesses that have the same ethos. We found that was a professional way to break into that closing doors should situations change. Is there any way you shouldn't terminate a contract? Paul: I do it as pleasantly as possible. I think that we need to be honest, not everybody is going to work with everybody. Otherwise, you'd end up marrying everybody. Paul: You can't be everything to everybody. You shouldn't try to be. If you do, you'd probably come to grief and a bit unstuck. Be Innovative Paul: I have a client with whom I've done quite a bit of work over the years. My role was to identify people that I knew that represented his or his company's ideal client criteria and to introduce the two. They would host a high-quality event, and I would invite these people along and learn a bit about each other. One thing would lead to another and invariably business. Paul: In doing so, I was introducing my client to his prospective client, who loved what my client did, but because they were spread across Australia, it was just going to be prohibitive. Paul: After I've done my initial introduction, my client and the prospective client sat down and talked it through. The latter said that they love what my client does—bringing our senior management together for a day and a half once a month for 10 months—but the cost is much more than they are prepared to pay and bringing together the senior management from across Australia once a month is really overwhelming for us. Paul: This happened 5 years ago, so I was a bit surprised that my client hadn't thought of doing it by Zoom. Five years later, they are still doing business. The client is delighted. They've achieved it at a much lower rate, and they've managed to do it without disrupting their business every month when they bring a group of senior executives together. Paul: It's often not what you do. With my client, all they really changed was how they did it. I can't really take the credit, but my client said that I have changed the criteria of their ideal client. They see themselves delivering what they do—business coaching—to a much larger audience than what they previously have perceived. I'm a great believer in knowing who your ideal clients are, who you would like them to be, and who they could be. Look At the Good Side of Things Paul: I think with COVID-19 essentially everybody has recognised that we can do so much. What we were previously doing physically at one location we can actually do via Zoom. COVID-19 has actually accelerated much of the change that was going on. In business, being able to do things through Zoom is awesome. It's not about the lack of resources; it's more about being resourceful with what you've got. That's a big thing that we bring to businesses. People don't want to use the XYZ tool and aren't ready for that. Most of the time, when you push into a corner like what COVID-19 did for a lot of businesses, you find out that these tools aren't that bad. They're not the enemy, and they're going to help you out. They're going to take you off the road, and you're going to be significantly more utilised throughout the day. Some people drive. I have a friend that drives an hour and 40 minutes to work every morning, five days a week. It's ridiculous. When his business went into COVID lockdown, he found that he had more time for his family. He spent an extra 40 minutes with his family in the morning and an extra 40 minutes in the afternoon, and they were happy but he was still spending an extra 2 hours a day at work. It's definitely a blessing in disguise. Paul: Personally, I'm not particularly good around the technology side, but you obviously have taken to it like a duck to water. I think that's a wonderful gift. Paul: Technology is your friend, and I'm learning that myself and enjoying working with people who have that outlook and have that ability, which I very much respect. It should sit there like electricity is your friend. We don't need to know how it works. We don't need to know if it's AC or DC coming through on high voltage lines. It just matters that we need to flip the switch and it works, and that should be what all business owners want. Ensure Your Ideal Clients Know Who to Call (You) Paul: If you turn the switch on and it doesn't work, even though you might not know how it works, you at least know who to call. Henry Ford said that he doesn't have to know everything. He just has to know who to contact to make sure that he can achieve everything. Paul: That's very much what I'm about. I believe in the business plan and in knowing your ideal client and who they are. Make Your Ideal Clients Remember You Paul: What I do is I work with my client in identifying a number of activities. They could be one-on-one introductions, giving presentations, writing articles, whatever's right for my client so that we are constantly getting them in front of their ideal clients. Paul: I think some people go way over the top. They're excellent at what they do, but I think they significantly overcommunicate to the point where their target market is annoyed and say, 'If I get another email from Paul: Kennedy, I'll scream.' You don't want to do that. Paul: On the other hand, you don't want to go to the other extreme where your target market says, 'I've got an email from this guy Paul: Kennedy, and I don't think I even know him.' You've got to be just right. It'll be different for every business, but you have to make sure that when your ideal client has a need, you are the one they think of and they know how to contact you. Build a Business Development and Marketing Calendar Paul: Identify those five to eight activities and then build a marketing and business development calendar that bullet points down which activities you are going to do each month. They are all different because there is no single silver bullet. I don't believe you could do it all via LinkedIn or do it all via one-on-one introduction. You need to be doing a variety of activities that are getting you in front of these ideal clients and you need to do it consistently, not just once. Paul: Get yourself to the point where you've built your brand amongst your target markets or your ideal clients so that when the time is right for them, not when the time is right for you, they keep thinking, 'I need to go and talk to Josh at Dorks Delivered.' I agree. We call it the digital fridge magnet. When you look at the plumber or the nice pizza place around the corner, if you don't have that on the fridge and you forget, a lot of the time you end up going somewhere else. You want to be in front of them enough but you're not annoying them and pestering them. Paul: Absolutely. I've got an excellent database of people I know and who know me. Some of the people are so good at their social media, but personally, I think they do too much of it to the point where I have it set up so that it's automatically put into a subfolder in their name because I respect what they do, but I physically cannot consume everything that they're churning out. It could be one video a day and I just physically don't have that time. Paul: I think so much of that good content that they're sending out goes to waste. In my case, it goes automatically into the subfolders. Sometimes I get to look at it, most of the time not. These people are so good at what they do, but it's actually going to waste. Paul: On the other hand, you have the extreme of people who don't communicate at all. I think finding that right balance somewhere in the middle so that you're there enough, but not to the point where you are an annoyance, is the way to go. How Do You Avoid Losing a Prospective Client? Do you think you can get too close to an ideal client and break the relationship? Do you think you can do things that are too friendly and they think that's weird? What situations could get you too close? What are the Don'ts to make sure that you don't destroy a relationship with an ideal client? Remain Professional at All Times Paul: I do think you must at all times remain professional. You don't want to get to the point where the relationship has become casual and taken for granted. If there is an issue, either party might get reluctant to raise it because of the closeness so it festers away. Equally, if you do get too close or your relationship has become too entrenched with that one individual in the company, what happens if that person moves on and he's no longer there? Paul: It's a fine line. On one hand, you obviously want the relationship to be a healthy one, a productive one that works cooperatively for all parties. It's important to make sure that it always remains professional, but you don't take each other for granted and that you deliver what you say you are going to deliver. Don't get to the point where you're essentially living in each other's pockets. I think there is a dividing line and it's important to keep that. I know one time that I felt a bit uncomfortable. We don't work with this company anymore. We were quite close to them, and they would have parties and I'd bring along a keg of beer to celebrate. There was this one Christmas party in particular. I was there with a keg of beer and then a few hours went by, they shut the gates. I thought that's a bit weird, and then a few of the key decision-makers in the business started smoking a joint. They offered me to join them, but I'm not that guy. I said no judgement, but I obviously did. They felt comfortable enough to do that in front of me, but I did not feel comfortable being around that. Paul: I think that's an example of where getting too close can cause a bit of grief and can actually ruin the relationship. Planning, Growth, and Value Tell us about PGV Consulting and how that works with businesses that are listening and how they can leverage your services to be able to help them find ideal clients. Paul: I'm an accountant by qualification, but I don't do any accounting. I just wasn't very good. In the last 25 years, I've been really about business planning, business development, connections, and introductions. Paul: PGV stands for planning, growth, and value. Planning Paul: I like to begin with the business plan. Otherwise, it's a bit like going and trying to put a house on a roof before you've put the foundations down. I see the business plan as being the foundation, and it's important that you do that. As part of that process, you go through all the normal things like mission, vision, strengths, SWOT analysis and so on, but I really like to drill down on ideal clients and equally non-ideal clients. Growth Paul: If you've reached Nirvana, your ideal clients seek you out, sadly, non-ideal clients will also seek you out. When that happens, it's always good to know your competitors. Refer your non-ideal clients to them. Anything that can slow a competitor down is possibly a good thing. Paul: Work out what activities are going to engage you with those ideal clients on a consistent and ongoing basis so that they get to know you and particularly what you can do for them. Paul: People can engage my time by booking me for a certain number of hours per month where I work with them initially on the plan, if they don't have one, and then actually implementing the plan and particularly getting them in front of their ideal clients: people I know and who know me. Value Paul: I have a wonderful database that's very up to date and very comprehensive. I go through that when I'm working with a client in my database to see who I know that meets my client's ideal client criteria. And then we set about a series of activities, such as one-on-one introductions and presentations, so that one gets to learn the story of the other and see if they can do business together. I think that's very valuable to any business. I guess a lot of people out there claim to do similar things, but I think what's big and promising is you've got a client base where people can hit the ground running. You know these people, and being able to find the right person that fits your business means that it can be a few hours that you're spending with them and they might be coming out on the other side with maybe not a client, but at least an introduction to an ideal client. Paul: A person or an organisation might not necessarily be an ideal client themselves, but they may know your ideal client and be able to introduce you or where you work in partnership, alliances, etc. I'm also a great believer in that so long as it works for all the parties involved. You don't really want to be doing work with people who are frustrating, not ideal, can't pay your bill, don't actually act on your advice. Paul: Do anything you can do to avoid that so that you're always working in your circle of people who do actually value what you're about and actually act on it and are able and willing to pay for your services. 'How to Find the Ideal Clients' by Paul Kennedy Paul: I wrote an article some time ago called 'How to Find the Ideal Clients.' If it's of interest to any of your listeners, I'm very happy for them to have a copy. It was published in Spark Magazine about 4 years ago. [insert link to article] Paul: Also, with the new financial year, I think it's the perfect time to sit down and revisit your business plan if you have one or build one if you don't. Identify who your ideal clients are, work out what those actions and activities are going to be that you will progressively unfold over the next 12 to 18 months, and consistently deliver it and get your story in front of those people you want to have as your clients. I'm sure you'll find that your business grows the way you want it to. I love going back to the business plans that I've done in the past, and I can look through some of the stupid ideas I had and some of the amazing things that I've been able to accomplish to sort of put things into perspective. Sometimes we are too busy running the rat race to realise how far we've run. Recommended Book: Start With Why by Simon Sinek Paul: I think that really takes you back to where we began: Start with “Why”. As you go home every night, you're pretty excited and pleased about it because you've actually helped the sort of people you want to be doing business with. You can see the difference that you're bringing about in their business, and that's the motivation to get up the following day and go back and do it again. You took the words out of my mouth. I was about to ask about your favourite book, but I think you've answered that question perfectly. Start With Why [italicize] is definitely up there if it's not your favourite. Start with your “Why”. The big thing for me is to try to remove your business from it. That's what I did. Look at why you do what you do outside of the business. What is the driving motivators for you? What would you do for free? If you were retired, where would you stand and how would your day look? If your business fits into that, awesome. If it doesn't, make it fit into that. What is Freedom to You? What is business built freedom to you? What would you say is the vehicle of business and how does that bring freedom to you? Paul: It's spending your time doing what you want to do, enjoying it and seeing the rewards. That kind of almost defines your “Why” for each of us, doesn't it? It will be different for everybody, but business freedom is getting your business to the point where you want it to be and where your ideal clients are actually coming to you and that you can see that you've created that. Paul: I can see that you're getting your business to that point where the sort of people you want are approaching you. And at the end of each day, you've built your business so that it's delivering the outcome that you want. If you have any feedback or any questions, feel free to jump across iTunes. Leave us some love, give us some feedback. Paul will be in our Facebook group where you can ask different questions. Stay good and stay healthy.
Have you ever felt completely lost when it comes to the future whether in business or life? When I started in the home business industry, I was told to write down my WHY Why I was starting my business and to make sure I dug deep so I wrote down a WHY to make me cry. I did that but… My Why got me started in my business. It gave me a push. Yet… My business really didn't take off until I wrote down my VISION See my VISION pulls me towards my goals. Though I've never had a super detailed plan for my life, I've always had a vision of what I want it to look like. From that vision, I've tried to make my goals, values, and habits align in some way or another. Sometimes all you need is to visualize the lifestyle you dream of having, even if it seems outlandish or impossible. Having a life vision allows you to get more clarity around your future and what you want to get out of it – whether that's in the next month, year, or five years. http://marknelsononline.com/call (Set up a Free Call with me)

Hi hello & welcome to Behindleweyes The Podcast where we are transparently chatting about the messy parts of life in order to help those who are silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard. In today's episode, our first solo episode in a whole month, I just wanted to let you guys know what's going on in my personal life, a lot of exciting things happening, and wanted to give an update of what's happening on the pod for the month of May!May is postpartum awareness month and we have 4 special guests coming on to the pod to talk about their journies with motherhood, postpartum, etc. Giving moms an opportunity to share their story in a way to help those who could be silently struggling with similar things, feel seen & heard. So I hope you enjoy May's theme!30 has been really great to me! I can finally, officially tell you guys that I am being promoted. As you know, I was recently transferred to the North Shore of Massachusetts, after having been stationed, some days, over an hour away from where I live. I highly value the 11 years that I've spent with the company I'm with. So it was really discouraging the past couple years, feeling so burned out. Because normally I have a very strong work ethic. It's why I love the podcast hustle, and why I think I'm able to make it work while working full time, because I have the will to do so, to make it work.I got the call that I was getting the position and felt so incredibly proud of myself! Because I had worked really hard for the position! So moving forward, I'll be working in southern New Hampshire and I truly love it. It feels new, it feels challenging and I really love that stuff, I love being out of my comfort zone!Although this promotion is occupying a lot of my time lately, the podcast is still going strong. We've had some really amazing guests the past few weeks so make sure to check back on those!Another thing I talk a lot about in this episode, is 10 months without alcohol! Which is such a wild concept to me. I wasn't sure I'd actually get this far. 300 days is a long time! I'm super proud of myself because it hasn't been easy in the very least. There have been a few times where I've questioned my sobriety. My WHY has been so important for me to hold on to. The holidays were a really hard time for me and when the whether switched from winter to spring; wanting a cold beer or a patio drink or a spiked seltzer. Alcohol-free options really help me! I understand those who are in recovery may not be able to drink alcohol free products.I have successfully fought every urge that I've had to drink and it always goes back to that original why. I go a little bit deeper in this episode than I have in the past; I take pride in my sobriety. I'm very proud of the will I have to stick to something that feels right in my gut. When I stopped drinking, I had made the decision that I was never going to drink again.I was listening to a podcast recently where Trent Shelton was talking about making the decision to just be better. It all starts with us. No one else can make you do anything. It has to start with you. He used the analogy of burning that bridge behind you, leaving that old life behind. I don't have room in my life for alcohol so that was a bridge I made the decision to burn.I go into detail about the things that have helped me the most: surrounding myself with other people who also don't drink, changing environmental variables around me, in order to live into the higher version of myself I know I'm meant to live, and having conversations with those closest to me so they are able to understand WHY I'm alcohol-free.For all podcast inquiries, questions, comments, concerns & collaborations shoot an email to:lauren@behindleweyes.com or visit my website behindleweyes.comThanks for listening and we will catch you next WEDNESDAY with a brand new interview epi

Bethany Adkins is a former Pediatric Nurse turned stay-at-home mom who has been so passionate about reading and writing that she finally decided to pursue it full time. She encourages her audience at www.theadkinshighlightREAL.com, is the host of The Millennial Mission Podcast, she's writing her first book, and working on releasing her first online course. The core of her message is one simple thing: you have a purpose. Alongside her husband, Corey, they desire to help people step into their God-given purpose. They aim to break the stigmas of millennials and challenge them to rise up as an example for future generations. Bethany and I tackle the subject of faith and how to teach our kids about it. Regardless of who or what you believe in, faith plays a role in so much of our lives. I believe that we all have faith in something, and we all have personal values that we want to pass on to our kids. Coming from a very legalistic - like, a lot of rules - Christian background, I don’t want my kids to live under fear or to believe things just because that’s what I believe. It’s tough and challenging, but I really just want them to feel inspired to believe in something bigger and more powerful than themselves. No matter your religious background, I think we all have similar goals as parents. But how do we even start the conversation of faith with our kids? How do we teach them or be an example to them? Bethany and I have some thoughts. Be sure to check out Bethany’s “My Why” journal at bethanyadkins.com/mywhyjournal or you can find it in the show notes at supermompodcast.com

I am back! Join me as I make my way to the mic. After my 100th episode I took a break and when I let go of momentum, I had to do some soul searching. I needed to question why I needed to go to mic? This scary in-between time, in the midst of the pandemic and a country perhaps starting to heal, has the power to let us, as individuals, know what really matters. Let me take you with me!
Show Notes: What I did in December and whyI ran Marcothon, running every day in the month of December a minimum of 3.1 miles or 25 minutes whichever comes first. A personal challenge completely for yourselfIf you are already running consistently it’s not necessarily a difficult physical challenge. But it gets you outside every day in December, it gets you doing physical activity in DecemberMarcothon is one of my mental health-enhancing in the month of December. Personal Leadership Lesson Learned in Marcothon1) Consistent baby steps done daily add up to a lot over time: How you spend your time defines who you are. 2) There is no substitute for doing the work: You can’t outsource it. No one else can do the work for you. 3) You can accomplish more than you think: It takes time and experience to get to the bigger goals. You only get the experience by time and doing the work. 4) A strong body makes us perform better in all aspects of our lives. The better I take care of my body the better I do in all aspects of my life. We can’t discount the mind-body connection. 5) Minimum Goals! The smaller the goal the faster to get out and do the work. Make the hurdle small. Set the bar really low because then on the days you don’t want to do it you are still able to keep the promise to yourself. 6) Accountability matters: I posted in a Facebook group after every run and post it to the group. When you are supporting and cheering others on that matters. Encouraging others ends up being an encouragement to yourself. Be accountable to something greater than yourself. 7) Have a strong WHY! My why wasn’t just about running. It was more about getting myself outside in December moving my body every day and getting outside every day in the darkest month of the year. My WHY pushed me forward when it was hard to get outside8) Commitment, Perseverance: When you make a commitment to yourself and then go back on that commitment you degrade your confidence in yourself. You break trust in yourself. When you keep commitments to yourself you build confidence in yourself back up. You begin to learn that you can follow through on what you’ve told yourself you will do. Resistance always come up when it’s important9) Habit is the most powerful force in your life. Commitment, perseverance only takes you so far. Habit is what drives us. I don’t make New Years Resolutions, but I’m into creating healthy habits and habits that support my goals. 10) The Body is capable of more than we give it credit for. What limitations have you told yourself you have? Challenge the notion of what you think is possible. 11) Building The Most important hardest things into your calendar first. The longer you put off the hard things the harder they become. Eat the Frog First. Get the hardest thing done first thing in the morning. 12) See it through in your mind first: Commitment. When I made the commitment, see it through in your head first. Then take the action steps to get you there. Don’t’ be attached to the outcome. Don’t make a resolution, make a plan, get a coach. Break down the big dreams into small achievable baby steps.

My "Why" for Network Marketing A new outlook on Network Marketing and how successful people are open to new opportunities. They’re not closed-minded. They don’t dismiss anything. They don’t choose to do everything, of course. But they’re open to new ideas. If it will make them more money… Save them more time… Diversify their portfolio or add a new income stream… They’re open-minded. They come from a place of abundance. Whereas someone with closed-mind works in fear, doubt, skepticism and scarcity. Because of Network Marketing I am more open-minded to opportunities and possibilities. I have deeper connections, real conversations, and more meaning to life. This is a perfect fit to help me achieve time freedom, balanced energy and elevated finances. Now I am living the dream. Jumping outta bed each day, excited to get my day started. Choosing the right meals, and movement for a positive mindset so I can make the moments matter. I wish the same for you!

In today’s episode we will explore the leadership principle that is a non-negotiable in creating what you want in life. And that principle is PURPOSE. God has a plan for us, and it is revealed in our purpose. I know purpose has been talked about a lot through the years, and so simply put think of purpose as answering an important question and that question is “WHY”, sometimes you hear it as “MY WHY”, what’s your why for… you can fill in the blank, and then take it a step further and explore why something is important to you. Purpose guides you toward something, on the days that are tough, it will move you to do it anyway, despite how you feel. Think of purpose as a rudder on a boat, without it we would float around aimlessly, but with the rudder you move in the direction you are meant to go. The same is true with purpose, and we are here for a purpose. When we have events in our life that are unimaginable, purpose will help you find meaning, when we can’t understand the reason. Vote for me to be the next Ms. Health & Fitness 2020 at:https://mshealthandfitness.com/2020/tracy-2 When I was a teenager I always struggled with my weight. I stayed pretty active biking 22 miles on the weekends. When I was 17 I became pregnant, started gaining weight through my pregnancy. He was born by emergency c-section. At 18, baby #2 came along and then I got married at 18. Through each child I gained weight and had to have c-sections with all 4. Comfortable in my marriage, juggling working and raising children. I stopped focusing on myself and focused on my family. As years went on I got to be 355lbs by the age of 25 which was right after my 4th child was born. I became unhappy with myself and so knowing that I was done having children I started looking into ways to become active and to start losing weight. At this point it’s the weight I wanted to take off. In 2000 I lost my sister in law to breast cancer it was a tragic event for me as I was really close to her. She was 32yrs old and our youngest children were only 2. So I looked at my life and my kids and I knew something needed to be done. Their dad wasn’t very healthy and I needed to raise 4 children, knew that I needed to live for my kids. I joined a gym for the first time. I was scared and intimidated as gyms are not for fat people, or so I thought. We all start somewhere and I needed to start Now. I focused on myself to become healthier and happier for my family. In 2003 my marriage started to fall apart, alcoholism, lack of support in raising the kids and verbal/emotional abuse. I took on a 2nd job working for a fitness center and that’s where a lot of my focus and encouragement came from. Being in an industry where people help people. Overtime I heard stories from members that had gastric bypass and that they gained their weight back plus. That truly scared me. I spent 6-7 days in the gym, working 2 jobs, raising my children, later on going through a divorce and battling 4yr suicide attempts with my 3rd son. As a parent your children are the fore front of your life and making sure they know they are loved everyday. They are worth it and they have a great life. My health and fitness journey has been going 22yrs strong with a 203lbs all natural weight loss through physical activity & good nutrition. I am in the best physical shape of my life at 48. I am happy, have a positive outlook on life and I have adopted a motto to Inspire and Impact Lives in a Positive Way. I have more confidence in myself and a bigger purpose in life. My Why to live in life is to reach out to others through my story. You can do whatever you want to once you put your mind to it. June 2020 I saw a post for a competition for Ms. Health and Fitness 2020. I opened it up read it and said what the heck and entered it. Filled out the form and sent 3 pictures as requested. I got an email back almost immediately to fill out my profile and that the competition would start on July 20th, 2020. I have never competed in anything before and I said that I never would. This year I decided I needed to challenge myself and how better can I get my story out their to everyone. Each phase of voting narrowed the groups to Top 20, then a week later narrowed to the Top 15, a week later atop 10 and another week to the Top 5. I am proud to say that I made it to the Top 5 and am on my way to grasp the title of Ms. Health & Fitness 2020, being featured in Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine & a cash prize of 20k. My focus and Why do I want to win the title of Ms Health & Fitness 2020. To take my journey and to Empower & Impact people that go for your Dream. No Dream is to big. With your determination, dedication, passion, motivation, and perseverance YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT! My advice is to find your Why & Purpose and set your Mind on it. GO FOR IT!! Your Worth it. ABOUT DUSTINMEET THE CREATORHowever it isn’t about me, for it is what I can do…FOR YOU. This website was created in order to centralize the content I create, as well as give people a means to contact me directly. Whether you came here to learn about the Modular Degree or Polymath Exercise; You came here for a purpose. It is my hope that I can inspire you to take a polymathic approach to your life. Personally I have always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur and changemaker. The world has a multitude of areas that it needs leaders with a polymathic mentality, and I hope to fill one of those spots. I aim to give others a pathway to do the same! In my lifetime, “I will be a globally recognized Innovation Polymath. Driven to Innovate technology and ideology”.-Dustin Miller, PolyInnovator, or Innovation PolymathMy StoryGrowing up I always knew that I wanted to be a “businessman”, as I would say as a child. Even as I got older I would go as far to say that I would be a CEO! As the rise of technology changed my perspective my ideas grew wider. I knew that in order to achieve those childhood ambitions I would have to pursue my goals differently. In 2011 I started my first blog, and took my first foreray into real content creation, not just a graphics design hobby. I was relatively consisent, however the quality still lacked its wow factor (Also SEO). Back in 2017 (even a bit earlier) I had started a project called the “United Living Construct”. In my eyes I saw this as my magnum opus, and perhaps decades down the line it will be. The U.L.C. acted as a catalyst for growth, and I voracious (to this day) research knowledge on how to grow a brand. On top of that learning I tried applying that knowledge too, and eventually I thought a personal brand would be more suitable.A personal brand for those who are unaware is another way of saying an online reputation. It is the brand around myself, and what I create. PolyInnovator spawned off of the idea of a PolyULCian, someone of a multi-talented approach to innovation. Both names are just a modern version of a Polymath (think https://www.instagram.com/p/BxkqvAUltAO/ (Leonardo Da Vinci #myhero)).PolyInnovator | Polymath of InnovationI started working a year after I started blogging, and during my work years I always kept trying to do more. I started as a lifeguard, and worked my way into management and instructing. I found that teaching (anything) was something I am natural at doing. I love teaching, and I am quite skilled at it. This didactic lifestyle lead me to be the same way in the content I create as well.My WHY is that I want to create PolyInnovator as a company to change education, and Self-Development. By doing that I will be able to create a worthy platform to create many innovations, and probably most of all the U.L.C. itself as a https://www.seasteading.org/ (seastead). I hope by sharing this with you, that you can gain an understanding of why I truly care about your Self-Education!Finally leading up to today, as that same teaching mentality has been infused with PolyInnovator Academy. Aberrant Behavior - Episode 1: My WhyIn this very first episode, I talk about "My Why." What drives me? what inspires me? Why am I starting a podcast? Josh Forti, the founder and host of The Think Different Theory Podcast, and Below is Josh’s story written from Josh. I want to welcome you to my paradigm of thinking. Your life is about to change.YOUR LIFE IS ABOUT TO CHANGE.First off, before I tell you the how this revolutionary idea came to be, I should make you aware of something. It’s important.I think, act, and do things differently than most people. I am not “normal” in the way I think, and I have no desire to be.To me, normal is boring, uninspiring, and doesn’t really do anything fun or worthwhile.I own my flaws, learn from my failures, double down on my strengths, and celebrate my wins.No matter what, I always share what I learn – win, lose, or otherwise. My goal is to make the world better, and by sharing my story, I hope to do just that. Unlike most, I understand that what I do or don’t do doesn’t define me. How I react and respond does. From a young age, I knew I wanted more out of life – even when I didn’t know how, or really even what that meant. But I went and made it happen.Thinking differently in all areas of my life allowed me to pursue this, and through applying this simple concept I’ve been blessed to live a life that’s unlike the one most people will ever get to live.My goal while you’re listening to this podcast is to bring you into a new way of thinking, show you a perspective you may have never otherwise seen, and change the way you think, act, and learn.Because in my paradigm of thinking, anything is possible. All it takes is the right mindset, and the ability to ask the right questions. That comes from Thinking Different.“Cool, Josh! So you think differently, and you have a podcast that talks about it! But why? And how did it come about?”Great question. Let’s dive in.As I said, I have always wanted “more” out of life, even from a young age. At age 19 I started my first real company. A farming business. I grew up on a farm and I knew the space well.Within a year we had a little success. And then went bankrupt. My business partner’s wife divorced him and we had no proper paperwork in place for legal protection. I lost everything and was back to square one living with my parents.I then got a job working in insurance sales, selling group life and health insurance to businesses and corporations. Talk about an experience. I knew that I wasn’t where I wanted to be, but I knew I was headed in the right direction. I was out of farm life, and onto something.Door-to-door sales will show you just how rude people are. After knocking on over 500 doors one summer and only making ONE SALE, I knew something had to change.I started into the online marketing space in January of 2016.I quickly realized there was A LOT I didn’t know, but I began to realize that it was possible for anyone to succeed if you just knew how. It wasn’t a game of luck. I also observed that change could happen very quickly when you focused. There was just one problem. There wasn’t ANYONE that prepared me for the mental journey I was about to embark on.Instagram made entrepreneurship look pretty sexy, and like it would be smooth sailing. I quickly found out it wasn’t.Starting my own company and going through massive amounts of failure (and success) was the most mentally challenging thing I have ever done in my life… and almost NO ONE was talking about it.I started studying really successful people. During my time traveling and networking, I have been fortunate enough to meet some very financially successful and influential people. Naturally, I had questions.I began to ask them what the key to success was.Not a single one of them said, “Run better ads” or “Have a better product”. That wasn’t the key.The key to all of their success across the board? They ALL said mindset. Asking the right questions. A willingness to put in the work.So why was no one talking about this? Why was no one sharing the mental struggles? There were times when I was so seriously depressed – even AFTER having success – and when I looked around, social media told me that everyone else was killing it and just fine.I felt very alone. Then one day I was watching a video by Sam Ovens. He was talking about “finding the source” of something.I asked myself a simple question – why am I unhappy? What is causing that unhappiness?I traced it back to the source and eliminated what I believed to be the core source of stress and unhappiness in my life.My life changed so drastically, I knew I was onto something.I realized that by applying the theory of thinking differently about everything, I could create whatever life I wanted and I could accomplish anything I wanted. Thus began “The Think Different Theory”.I have a very strong “why” behind what I do.My WHY is to inspire people to break free and find their purpose, know truth, and define their own destiny, so they fall in love with life and make the world a better place.I believe that we as a society don’t talk about what actually matters, we talk about what sells. And I am here to change that.I am not trying to sell you a course, pitch you a product, or be your life coach.I am here to ask important questions and talk about things that matter.Mindset. Personal responsibility. The ups and downs of life. This podcast is my way of sharing my journey of life with the world – what I learn, experience, and discover – in an attempt to change it for the better.I firmly believe that thinking different can change anyone’s life. Why?Because if a farm boy from Indiana, who didn’t have texting until he was 18 or have dial up internet until 20, can change his life, anyone can.Thinking different helped me find purpose, fulfillment, and happiness. It helped me create a life that I could only dream of, and live in a reality where I define my own destiny. It gave me the ability to do more, be more, and see the world differently. This podcast is for those that want more, dream bigger, live in a world without limits. This is for the bold. The courageous. The truth seekers. The misfits. The world changers. The misunderstood. And the ones who refuse to give up.Welcome to The Think Different Theory. Thanks for listening. As always – hustle, hustle, God bless. Don’t be afraid to #ThinkDifferent, because those of use that do are the ones that will change the world. Even if that world is just our own.I love you all, and I will see you on the podcast.Take it easy fam!Peace.JOSH FORTIhttps://thinkdifferenttheory.com/
Gossip is the antithesis of unity… I can't tell you that I know each and everything that's happening in the office. But my team knows my stand on gossip. What is your Why and how did you find it? Our purpose statement is different from our mission and vision. Our Why statement is we exist because the world is underserved by digital marketing companies. There are some out there that are not good, not outright, and even go as far as scamming companies. There is a huge gap that is yet to be filled by digital marketing companies. We exist because of that gap. We want to serve the world, in the best way we can, through digital marketing. My Why is directly related to my identity. I am a child of God and we have a mission. That is to go out and make disciples of all nations. It's not easy to influence millennials. We're not all Christians in SEO Hacker. We hire any and all kinds of people with different beliefs. It's just that one of the things that I want very much to happen is for them to get to know the Lord. That will always be my Why. How I will be able to do that is dependent on where God has called me. Right now, God has called me to be a businessman, an entrepreneur, and a voice in the Philippine startup market. People will not listen to you if you're not good at what you're called to be doing. You'll just be another person with an opinion. People will criticize you. Society will tell you to become successful. But when you are successful in a way, people are going to criticize you. What I realized is that you should just go the path that you're called to and don't pay any mind to the critics. There have been so many times when I heard voices from critics all around. If I let it get to me, then I wouldn't be here today. You have to realize that you've been fighting a worthy fight. There is a reason why you exist. It's your choice to allow what they say to get into your heart or not. Unity is an important thing. How do you plan to keep everyone unified while still maintaining professionalism in the workplace? First, we have to educate them on the five enemies of unity. The first enemy is gossip. It is the antithesis of unity. With it, you can never have unity in your team. It breaks down trust. Without trust, you cannot have unity. I can't tell you that I know each and everything that's happening in the office. But my team knows my stand on gossip. It's an everyday fight. You have to make an effort to keep these things at bay because if you let your guard down, these things will really wreak havoc within your team. The second thing I really don't like is unresolved conflict. If there are people between teams that don't see eye-to-eye, have bitterness in their hearts. They might even go as far as to sabotage each other's output. When that happens, both you, your clients, and your shareholders will suffer. This can lead to letting go of people just because you're not making enough revenue. When you know something is happening between two members of your team, get them in a room and act as a mediator in their alignment. I don't require my people to become friends, even outside of work. What I require is that they respect one another. The third enemy of gossip is sanctioned incompetence. If you tolerate incompetence in your team, they will follow suit with it—creating more mediocre output. They will hate you for it because you're protecting a donkey, while you let your stallions suffer, or worse, leave. You'll lose loyalty and your unity will breakdown. This episode goes into my motivation behind doing the podcast and why change is an unavoidable component of success. The sad and unfortunate truth is that their are just some people who aren't going to change no matter what you do BUT there is a set of people who don't realize that they can change and has all the tools necessary to put the change in motion. And these are the people that I'm motivated to motivate to continue in L-U-C-K (listen here if you missed that one) and to continue to remind you that you do have ALL the tools that you need to be the best version of yourself that you want to be and that the world deserves.Don't forget to check out the website hereBe sure to checkout QuickBooks and get 50% off your subscription by clicking on the link. Also be sure to checkout www.richardhawks2.com for all of your voiceover and podcast production needs.Follow me Twitter and Instagram @richardhawks2
#empathyforgrief - Break the Silent Struggle With Grief Podcast
My Why and Your Why Welcome to Mother's Backyard Buzz, a podcast #9 where we break the silent struggle around grief by unpacking my book: My Backyard Garden - A Memoir of How Love Conquers Grief. I am the author and your host, Debra Hester. We've completed the intro of the book. The original plan was to have a guest speaker on the podcast at the end of each chapter. But I changed my mind and decided to talk about my "why", as we end the Introduction Chapter. And of course, when I thought about my "why", I thought about asking you to think about your "why". In the future, I plan to have a guest speaker address the topics we've covered, listeners' questions or responses as appropriate. So you still have time to send in your questions or comments to my email at mdhester@mothersbackyard.com. More Than the Why Chapter in My Book #empathyforgrief's first eight podcast episodes have only covered the Introduction Chapter of the book so far. I don't want to rush and hope you're O.K. with the pace too. I decided to share a little more about myself and my "why". I will start the guest speakers when we get to the end of Chapter 1 and continue through to the end of the book. So remember, we will continue to break the silent struggle with grief. Chapter by chapter with #empathyforgrief podcasts, we will move deeper into what I included and didn't include in my book that speaks to this journey we all take - called grief. How do I share my "why" with you became a sort of a dilemma for me? It's a dilemma because I don't like to talk about myself. I actually considered doing this in an interview. From my observation, in both professional and private setting, some people seem to be able to talk about themselves and what they're doing with ease and acceptance. Personally, I've always found it challenging. In Corporate America, the people who were able to speak up with ease seemed to get promotions and the attention of their superiors. I learned to understand it as self-advocacy. I'm not sure if I'm good at it after all these years or not. But I do appreciate self-advocacy and see value in it even thought I was raised in a culture that taught me to work hard and let my work speak for me. So since this is the end of the Introduction Chapter of my book, I thought it might be a place for me to share with you a bit more of what I'm about and the platform that I feel is my purpose in life: #empathyforgrief. Don't worry, I'm not going to share a recap of my educational or professional bio. If you're interested, You can get that on my website at www.mothersbackyard.com or on my book cover. I'm hoping to share a little of my "why" and how #empathyforgrief came to be. Why Ask Why on the Grief Journey Depending on where you are on your grief journey, you may be asking yourself, "why me"?, "why now?". "is anything useful going to come out of how I'm feeling?" These were a few of the questions that crossed my mind a lot. These questions along with others that were probably less about a healthy curiosity and more of a complaint and self-pity. But we're going to focus on when you get to a position of being curious in a healthy way. Some of us are there sometimes and some of us may feel that we'll never get to feeling a healthy curiosity about our feelings of grief. I encourage all, including myself, to hang in there. Only you will know when to do this; but, I encourage you to start asking yourself and the Creator, "what positive thing am I suppose to do with what I'm experiencing?" It may be to write a book or a poem, to plant a garden, building a bench, or paint a wall. Believe me there is something. And it will come to you what your "thing" is. For me, it's a project, a platform that I'm compelled to create. It's my "why". Sometimes tears come to my eyes when I think of it and sometimes joy. But I feel deep in my hear, it's what I was supposed to do right now. So I'll refer to it as a positive project as I talk about it more. Whether your positive project is big or small, whether it takes an hour to complete and you look at it for ever. Or it may take a year or it may be ongoing. I encourage you to meditate on: "what is this thing that is to come out of my grief." Your thing will come to your heart, your spirit and your mind. And I believe you will create it in the physical world, and the world will be a better place because of what you created. Coming back to my "why". My first hope is that you read the Introduction Chapter of my book. It's in a different writing style, but this section lets you know how I felt overall and why I included things in the book at that time. Chapter 1 starts with the memoir style of writing that tells the story of how I began my grief journey that made me realize my purpose in life as a part of my mothers's end of life story. "Why" Changed Things You see, who I am now was not a plan that I started with. I was grieving the death of my mother, and I started out being obedient to something my mother told me on her death bed. Then it became a commitment to finish a book that would be for my family and for future generations. But along the way, I realized my grief might be able to help others. I meditated daily on my emotions while I completed my book project about my mother and me. I would walk every morning, and a flood of ideas came to me. Do this, do that, then say this and say that. Ideas were coming so quickly that I had to keep my phone next to my bed to dictate notes. As time passed, I finally realized that this was the problem in the world, I was born to contribute to and help solve for myself and others. I realized that every job I ever held and every skill I ever learned was helping me right now with this. From my first father's death to my uncle's death to writing obituaries at a funeral home to writing educational training materials, to broadcast journalism to corporate leadership and professional development. My past seemed to come together like a puzzle piece. O.K. I'll admin there are still some pieces missing. However, what looked like an unplanned yet relatively successful career transitioned into a very focused mission and vision for my life. This awareness helped me become a grief advocate and create a platform, mission and podcast around #empathforgrief as a social entrepreneur. All this came to me after I had written and published the book: My Backyard Garden, A Memoir of How Love Conquers Grief. So you see, something is waiting to be born and created out of your grief too. Trauma I've been reading this book on trauma. My inability to feel comfortable talking, especially about myself, may have been part of my upbringing and being traumatized as a child. When my first father was killed, I spent many years being soft-spoken. I loved to see other people enjoy themselves. Still, I didn't care to talk much to anyone but my closest friends and immediate family. I was a great listener because I really wanted the other person to do all the talking. From the outside, I put on a spectacular performance. I remember people use to say: "That child looks so unconcerned." That unconcerned child turned into a reserved, very insecure, vulnerable, fearful and naive young adult. My saving grace was my ability to perform with fear in my heart. Physically, it manifested itself in overeating and digestive disorders. Another saving grace was that I was a healthy eater, it was all about portions out of control and I did like to dance. Why #empathyforgrief The last thing I want to share is why I am so passionate about #empathyforgrief and how it came to be my hashtag for breaking the silence with grief. I feel we as human beings do feel empathy for people who have lost a loved one. We have just settled with the label sympathy. What's in a word, you might say? Everything! This word is especially important for people who have not felt the death of a loved one like we have. They believe sympathy is enough. The term "sympathy" is socially acceptable, what more could we ask for when someone dies they may think. They may think we're all going to die. And, indeed, we are all going to die someday. But until you experience the loss of that special loved one, it's hard to understand why sympathy isn't enough. Maybe it's enough for the deceased, but it is not enough for the loved ones who are left behind. We need your empathy now and for some unknown time in the future. We need your understanding during our transition into a world without our loved one. No matter how sudden or advanced notice we had about their death, we wake up one day and feel as if someone has been ripped from our lives. Big-time focus on the feeling of cutting, ripping here. Imagine someone being ripped away from a person, and you may begin to understand #empathyforgrief. Thrive In 2020 Now, as you listen to my podcasts and read my book, I hope you will feel a bit more familiar with me. Hopefully, you can uncover some things that will help you and others that I may not have realized. In each podcast, I will ask you to try something or apply what I've discussed in your life. I want us to do something positive when we feel able. I want us to move with and through grief, just as I did with my fears. I want to encourage you to do beyond the SSOGS (Secret Society of Grief Surviors) and to thrive in our world that has changed since the loss of our loved one. What I love most is that we are on this journey together. I felt so alone at first. Now, I realize that grief is a universal and shared emotion. I am not alone on this journey or the odd person out. It is a part of being human. Nothing to be ashamed of and a feeling that you don't need to hide. I hope you don't think it make me happy in the sense that misery loves company. Let me explain why it makes me happy. My hopes are if we can break the silent struggle with grief; then, maybe we will break the silence and shame about other traumatic experiences so people can heal. This way, we create a culture where we all can grow through life's traumatic experiences. So many people compare their traumatic experiences. They think that wow, her mother dying is not as traumatic as my friend dying. Studies show that we can't compare. Denying your emotions around grief based on comparison to others may not prove to help you move forward with your pain. That's why my platform and mission is around #empathyforgrief. I want us all never to forget to show empathy towards yourself as well as others. Plans are underway for me to continue my podcasts through podcast providers and on radio broadcast programs. I also have an in-person MOVE Mapping Workshop for organizations and groups. The workshop experience is designed to make people aware of how the grief journey changes lives and become clear about what to two now and how to do it. My workshop experience is designed for individuals, grief support groups, public and private organizations, especially supervisors and managers. It's a life skill that many aren't confident in how to handle successfully. So you see, that's the #empathyforgrief plans right now, so I hope you'd participate by sharing my information with others who need it. That's my only ask! Next Episode If you found the podcast helpful, please subscribe to me on iHeart, iTunes or from your favorite podcast provider. Find out more about my mission at www.mothersbackyard.com. Join me next week when we continue with Chapter 1 - A Change of Planes in my book, My Backyard Garden, A Memoir of How Love Conquers Grief, and the buzz will be about "Early Mornings." Peace & Blessings

Here we are, a new year, with new resolutions. Did you know that Research shows about 60 percent of us make New Year's resolutions but only about 8 percent are successful in achieving them. That’s horrible results. I’ve been there too many times. I set a goal, and about 3 weeks into it, I’ve failed. Because I failed to keep my promise to myself, then I feel like a failure. It’s not a healthy way to start the new year. I’m not a goal coach, and goals are important! They’re the roadmap to how to get to where you want to be. If you love goal setting, you have to listen to next week’s episode with the ultimate goal coach, Jacki Carr of GoalSPEAK. She will help you get motivated, lay out a clear plan and stay motivated and excited to reach and achieve your biggest goals. Maybe it’s the hippie empath in me, but I’ve found that tuning into my feelings, rather than resolutions, speak more to my heart, help lead me to my goals and tether me to how I want to live my life every day. We’re coming into a new decade. A very powerful decade. 2020 baby! It’s time to really come home to yourself and step into the person you want to be. This is not another year to set goals and break your promise to yourself. This is a time to set your intention of how you want to feel, live that feeling each day and let that feeling be your GPS guiding you to your goals and dreams. Usually we set a goal not because of the end result, but because of how it makes us feel. Focusing on intention and feeling rather than a just getting to the goal usually is stronger and successful because it’s deeply ingrained in your motivation. For example, the goal of losing weight to get into your skinny jeans is not as powerful if you don’t tap into the feeling behind the goal. I had been wanting to give up caffeine for years. I tried and always failed about a week into it. Being healthy wasn’t a big motivator for me. The WHY wasn’t strong enough. But after going through a miscarriage, a partial molar pregnancy and a cancer scare with two D&Cs and a recovery time of 11 months, the moment we found out we were cleared to start trying again for a baby was the day I quit caffeine cold turkey. How did I go from 2 cups of coffee a day to nada? My WHY was strong. I wanted to have a baby! The feeling of being healthy so that I could get pregnant was a huge motivator to help me reach one of my biggest goals of becoming a mother. When you can get really clear on your WHY, the intention, the feeling behind your goal, then you can faithfully take steps to get there and know that that goal is in alignment with really where you want to be. And the right steps will present themselves when you’re in alignment with your True Self - not the goals that sounds good on paper, but the goals or next actions that really light you up and fuel your spirit. You know that saying “our thoughts drive our behavior?” Well I believe our feelings drive our behavior. Let me explain. Our feelings are tied to our beliefs. Marie Forleo says our beliefs are something we hold true, even if they’re not. Beliefs are very powerful! Feelings are the undercurrent of our beliefs. Then our beliefs drive our thoughts which drive our actions. It all starts with a feeling. Sometimes it can be hard to change a belief about ourselves, because we’ve spent decades reinforcing it with our thoughts. Begin to change your beliefs and patterns by focusing on a feeling – the why. So the question is, How do you want to feel this upcoming year? Today, I’ll guide you through 5 questions to tap into how you want to feel and let this intention of feeling this way through 2020 be your guide to how you can live this feeling every day. I invite you to get quiet and join me in on a guided meditation/ and journaling exercise. Grab a pen and your favorite journal and let’s get started. {Guided meditation + place hand on heart} Here are 5 steps to come home to yourself and how you want to feel this year. The first 3 steps are borrowed from my favorite coach, Marie Forleo from her decade in review challenge. There is a link in the show notes to her 2 videos. Typically, I review the past year and set goals for the upcoming year. The last steps are from my signature program Soul School launching in April, providing you tools and techniques to help ground you back to your Soul and who you are meant to be. It’s about diving in deep, doing the work and coming home to yourself and how you want to feel every day. It’s about looking about your beliefs, how they hold you back and restructuring your beliefs so you become your biggest advocate and best friend. Change your beliefs. Change your life. Today is not about setting goals. It’s about getting clear of how you want to feel and creating a vow and promise to yourself with ways to get there – every day. There’s a powerful quote, “People overestimate what can be done in one year, and underestimate what can be done in ten.” Looking back on the past decade: 1. What are you most proud of and why? 2. What are your biggest lessons? The challenging times are where you learn the biggest TRUTHS about yourself. I bet when you write down your lessons, you will have so many empowering nuggets of wisdom and advice to yourself. You are wiser than you give yourself credit! 3. What are you willing to release? goals or projects you’ve had on your To Do list for far too long resentments and emotional baggage habits or beliefs that don’t serve you 4. How do you want to feel? Create your 1-3 Soul Feelings Brainstorm: this is how we feel when we are deeply connected to ourselves. This is not how you think you should feel. get quiet from your mind and tune into your heart. How do YOU want to feel? this is totally just for you and will only make sense to you. You may have felt glimpses of this feeling or this may be an aspirational feeling you desire to feel or maybe you see another person who embodies this feeling. If you can imagine it or see this feeling in others, then it exists in you too. Take a big pause, breathe deeply, and place your hands on your heart: how do I want to feel? you may even say: I want to feel the opposite of what I’m feeling right now. write down as many feelings as possible. How does your heart want to feel? How do you want to feel? Pick 1-3 Soul Feelings and create your VOW: I want to feel: 1, 2, 3… 5. Brainstorm you SOUL ANCHORS: What do you need to do to stay connected to those feelings? So, now that you know how you want to feel and a bunch of ways to get you there, each day ask yourself, what do I need now to be in alignment with how I want to feel? Get quiet and tune into your heart and let your Soul speak and lead the way to the activities and thoughts that support you. It’s this sacred practice of coming home to yourself every day that will bridge the gap of how you currently feel and get you to how you want to feel. These small daily wins help you feel good and feeling good keeps you motivated and hopeful. When you are full, inspired and believe in yourself, you are more likely to be in alignment with achieving your biggest and loftiest goals. Goals that are based from a deep feeling are grounded in your truth. Having a strong why is what gets you to accomplish your biggest dreams. Feeling a certain way leads you to change patterns and believe in yourself. Rather than focus on an outcome, be present to how you want to feel each day. When you feel good, it’s easier to keep promises to yourself. Your Feelings create change that is lasting. Living your soul feelings will help you create pockets of daily moments you can come home to yourself, and weaving these little moments each day lead to a fulfilled and joyful life. There are so many great ways to start your new year: Goal Setting, Vision Boards, Year in Review, visualizations etc. I hope you find this way of declaring your Soul Feelings and attuning to them each day, just one path to connecting to your Truth: that you are enough and you matter. You have gifts to share with this world, my friend. So, together, this year is your year. Let’s unearth your gifts, shed limited beliefs and help you step into how you want to feel. When you feel good, alive, empowered, loved, enough you can conquer anything! I am so honored to be your friend and guide you to believe and love yourself, know you are deserving and help step into the person you want to be.

Corey Sigvaldason www.HOPPerformanceInstitute.com HOP® Nation Podcast Keynotes and training workshops The Gamechanger Equation™ HOP® M-MBA 1. Give me your favorite quote and explain why and how it helps you. a) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV b) “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Maya Angelou 2. Give me a moment where when looking back you let slip away and it impacted your life at some level. Nothing coming to mind but know I have missed my wife and children while traveling around the world for business as I would rather have them with me. We have created the freedom to do that now. 3. Have you ever had a time where you knew there was more for you to do in life or accomplish, but were in a position or job or career that didn't quite line up with that, how did you maximize that moment? Yes. I left the organization and position and spent a few months working on moving towards what the purpose and the calling in my life is. Doors opened up and life was much happier at that point forward. I recently made a similar decision to shut down the accredited private college I owned to pursue my passion and calling with my HOP work solely. 4. Do you have a story of a time that when maximizing the moment was important or meaningful to you? June 2008 in north India. Meeting the poorest children there while sponsoring some medical clinics in the shanty towns. I HAVE A PICTURE I KEPT OF THEM SMILING AND WAVING TO ME and realizing they were happy despite their terrible life circumstance – in that moment we shared together. I told the director of the mission group that was amazing and when he told me that the sad thing is 95% of those children won’t see their 13 th birthday…I broke into tears in front of 7 other men I met just 20 minutes before. I knew then I had to do something to change that situation and make the world better for children, like them, and their families. My WHY is to change the world through education and entrepreneurship. That comes from that experience. 5. How would you define a maximizing moment? Being present for others and making their life better while feeling fulfilled and happy myself. 6. If you could share 3 immediate action steps to take for a person to maximize a defining moment in their life what would that be? Be Happy and Grateful Dream Big! Serve greatly and focus on ROI (return on impact) 7. Do you have any parting words, comments or instruction for the audience you want to share? Love and serve more Adopt a “What If” philosophy for your life Focus on energy and priority management, not time management. Ask better questions Rather than aspiring to be a king, be a king maker – that is where the most opportunity for ROI (Return on Impact) lies and few play Focus on the Drivers and Superchargers of Performance (This is my PhD research and what has become the foundation of the HOP Model I am known for) 8. What made you decide to become an entrepreneur? Why do you show up to work every single day? What makes it all worth it? During the Holiday Grind getting through the days where you wanna be somewhere else besides the studio can be one of the most difficult disciplines of a business owner. The days where you'd rather stay in bed, or hike a trail instead of full-filling an order and having to make that umpteenth wrap and rake spoon or implosion pendant. When your drive is depleted sometimes the best thing you CAN do is take a day off and get a recharge. As much as those days ARE a necessity what if you're on a deadline and you have no choice BUT to go into the studio, then what do you do? In a previous episode of TWGRM I asked the question "Why are you a glass artist?". This is an important question and I asked it because the answer will inevitably be the fuel to get you through those days where the studio just isn't a place that you want to be...if you haven't listened to it yet to back and listen before going any further (Episode 156:Why, What, and How-3 questions to ask yourself regarding your desire to be a Glass Artist)...it'll get you up to speed. Knowing your WHY, Your vision for what fuels the fire, is the passion for the medium of glass which will help you get through the days where you'd rather be anywhere but the studio. Trust me. There's plenty of days I've wanted to call out of work due to that worn out feeling of burnout and redundancy. Especially when my job is not only as a production artist but also communicating with hundreds of random guests though out the course of a day which can really take a toll on my energy levels. On Those days that I don't wanna go to work or when I simply am ready to go home when I'm already there, I think about my WHY. My WHY is the guests who have stopped in to see what I'm doing. The guest who's initial interest in what I'm doing all started because they see a bright flame from a distance which draws them into our shop. Once I engage them and a conversation begins their initial curiosity turns into a deep interest of a new art form that they might be experiencing for the first time. That WHY is what keeps me going even when mentally and emotionally I am not at my best. So make sure you know your Why and write it down. Write it BIG AND BOLD and place it somewhere, maybe in several places, where you can see it and have that reminder for Why it is what you do and hopefully you'll be able to capture the focus and energy needed to get you through that shift. If you can't find the motivation then maybe you need the day off but don't take it off completely. Take advantage of the day and re-evaluate your WHY so next time you have a clear understanding and possibly a new found motivating factor to get you through those days where you feel you have nothing left to give. It's crucial as a Business Owner and Artist to find time away from the studio to recharge but it's also just as important to be able to conquer the days where you have zero motivation and still get into the shop and kick butt. These breakthrough days develop markers in our brain that we can look back upon from even further motivation when the WHY just isn't cutting it.... ask questions, develop good habits and make self discipline a part of your daily routine.... And this has been your WyzGuy Radio Minute Happy Melting and Have a Wyz Day Jason Michael
My WHY is what keeps me going and focus. My WHY is bigger than myself.
What Veterans Day Means to Me My Experience I joined the US Air Force in the summer of 1991 and shipped out on February of 1992. This was right at the end of Operation Desert Storm and during Desert Shield. I had been married for a year and a half and had a seven-month old daughter when I went to Basic Training. My “Why” of joining was three-fold, to further my professional life, get away from family pressures, and do something I believed in. It was an exciting time. A proud time. And a sad time. I was excited about new opportunities and the unknown. My friends and family were proud of what I was doing. Some were sad and hurt. I was somewhat conscious of all that, but the excitement of embarking on something new overrode everything else. Unexpected Turn Professionally, I thought I wanted to be a software developer. I knew that was where the industry was going and there was this wild intangible about creating something out of absolutely nothing which fascinated me. However, my ASVAB scores were not good enough and I had to settle for being a Communications Computer Operator, a 491x1 at the time. It's been reclassified a few times since then. It was a bit humbling for me and definitely disappointing, but I knew it was a foot in the door and figured I could work my way up. And I did. This is where preparation met opportunity. Fork in the Road All this led into the opportunity I've been waiting for, in the fall of 1993, the Air Force had a huge project to consolidate all of their mainframes into the Regional Processing Centers (RPCs) and since I had shown exemplary performance and initiative, they gave me the option to either become a Systems Administrator or a Database Administrator. My career was in full blast as an IT professional and wasn't even aware of it. I just wanted to learn as much as possible and do the best job I could do. Overall, joining the military was the best professional decision I had ever made in my life. I am extremely proud of what I did and would still be serving today if I could. Lessons Learned Sacrificing for others will always pay you back ten fold. Despite my sacrifices (which were very few compared to our fighting men and women in the other services), the military had given me a set of skills that directly translated to the public sector and most of all, the pride of serving my country. Nothing can nor will ever take away that pride. Serving your country means to do the things your country asks of you without expecting anything in return. That's true about serving at any level or anything. Be proud of serving, continue to server whether or not you're in the military. "Leaving the Battlefield" story is by Chaplain Major Carlos C. In this episode I'm going to get on my soap box for a bit and talk about your WHY. When life shows up is your WHY big enough and strong enough to carry you through the storm? I know many years ago when I first learned about the power behind having a strong WHY in my life. Why I get up and do what I do. My WHY was always around my daughter and how she drowned. What I wanted to do about it. With that being said it still wasn't BIG enough or STRONG enough to carry me through. I had always developed my WHY to speak to others. It was always about an outcome I wanted in my life. Wishing that people would feel what I was feeling to follow our mission. This never happens. They will not feel what you feel. They will feel sorry but not get on board with what your about. I believe that this is the wrong way to look at your WHY. Your WHY should be personal to you, it is from the inside out. It doesn't really speak to anyone but you. It is who you are, what you want to become. I find what works best is to work it backwards. You know the outcome that you want to get, or the transformation that you wish to take place. Your WHY ls many layers deeper than what you really think. In order to find it you may be required to go deep into feelings that you have buried deep down inside for a long time. Fo example my goal is to reduce drowning by 50% by the year 2028 that is a reduction of 2,000 lives saved here in the U.S. and over 180,000 lives saved worldwide every year. But in order to accomplish that goal I have to understand what drives me. That is what is in my head and heart. First off for many years the world told me I wasn't Good Enough, I wasn't Worthy, or even Smart Enough, so I believed all that and blamed my life and all the crap on my daughters drowning. The war I wage is with myself to prove to me that I'm not all those things that the world said I was. The other part is that when my life is over. I do not want anything unfinished. When I stand there with my daughter, she says Daddy you did a great job. And then my GOD looks and says Job Well Done Faithful Servant. I left it all on the field or should I say in this world I can't take it with me. It is my Legacy. Listen in this episode where I talk about what Legacy means to me . This is what makes me get up in the morning at 4 am and walk to put in 5 miles before the rest of the world gets their day started. Only a few people can understand this, what's in me, the driving force. But most wish they could do that or find that inside of themselves. I just made the decision to change my life, to create this lifestyle that will bring about change. To have that push me to change the world and reach millions upon millions of people with our message to make the impact in other people lives. In the end reaching and exceeding our goal. By focusing on my WHY this attracts what I want in my life and not to mention the people in my life to make our goal a reality. I can't do it alone. In Part 2 of my interview with Elaine Rau of Ladyboss Blogger, we’re going behind the scenes to find out: How Elaine uses interns to do market research and create her blog content at the same time. How Elaine takes a collaborative approach to bringing on interns and her best advice for finding the right match. How Elaine’s unpaid internship that she did purely as a creative outlet gave her valuable experience for Ladyboss Blogger What tactic got Elaine the most traction of all the things she’s tried. Elaine’s philosophy on how to choose the right course to learn a new skill. Why Elaine and I are all about Pinterest right now. How Elaine is using Pinterest to test ideas. Why most bloggers are only making an average of $3.50 a day, and why a blog strategy can change that. How to get seen and noticed and get more traffic! Tell us all about your business. What do you do? How long have you been doing it? Who is your ideal client? Is it a side hustle or is it your full-time gig now? I created a blog and platform, LadyBossBlogger.com, for current and aspiring female entrepreneurs to get the resources they need to start and succeed in business. My ideal client are ladies who want to start an online business, but unsure how, and they want step-by-step directions on achieving their goals in the most linear way. I work full-time on LadyBossBlogger. Why did you start your business? What was the catalyst? What sparked you to put your time and energy into a side hustle? What’s your WHY? I was kind of thrown into it due to my circumstances. My fiancé called me from overseas to tell me that his brother had just been murdered… so I asked my boss if I could go to the funeral and he said NO because it would affect sales. So, I quit and moved to Honduras to be with family, however, the transition was a lot harder than I had anticipated. I didn’t speak Spanish so the only person I could talk to was my fiancé so it started to get really lonely. Plus that didn’t help with trying to find a job because all my sales industry skills were dependent upon being able to communicate! Additionally, Honduras is a developing country and the rate of unemployment is 80% there so it was next to impossible to get a job anyways. Because of this, I knew I had to reinvent myself and develop a new skill, so I started blogging to learn about who I wanted to become – a LADY BOSS BLOGGER. I didn’t start it originally to make money, I just needed to give myself a reason to wake up in the morning, but since I was spending so much time on it, I knew I had to start making money from it somehow if I were to survive, so I started selling paid advertising spots on my blog and that is how it all started. My “WHY” is my desire to elevate women in business so that other women can see that it’s possible for them as well. The more women are properly portrayed in the media, the more we will rise up in leadership and know our worth. Media plays a HUGE part in self worth and confidence and I truly believe that if you want to change the world, you start with changing media. Has your business always looked like it does today? Did you start out doing one thing and then evolve into something else? Or does it look pretty much the same? It’s changed gradually over time as I have listened to my audience and learned what they want from me. I blogged a lot about entrepreneurship at first, but as my blog grew and reached 150K followers in under two years, people started asking me how to start a successful blog. I never wanted to blog about blogging, but that is what people wanted from me, so I created a course to answer all their questions in one place! What were some of the fears and doubts you had going into starting your business and how have you overcome them?I wanted to quit a week in. I wasn’t making any money, I was super stressed out, and I honestly just had hit rock bottom in my confidence and really didn’t believe I could do anything of substance that would make me feel fulfilled. But instead of quitting I decided to see if there was some way that I could make just $5 with it and that is exactly what I did. That $5 was all the confidence I needed to run with it. Tell us about making the leap from Side Hustle to Self-Employed? How did you make the decision? What was your money goal? (This doesn’t have to be an exact number, it could be like “twice my salary” or whatever) It was never about money, it was about freedom. I left my extremely well-paying job that I had worked years to obtain because they made me choose between my career and family. However, even though I was making a ton of money, I was also spending just as much and when I moved down to Honduras I was close to broke! So I used my last $12.18 to purchase my blog domain. It was sink or swim and I chose to learn how to do the butterfly stroke. What were the first 6 months of self-employment like for you?Extremely hard. I didn’t have the funds to outsource or to get a mentor so I had to do everything myself. I basically used my blog as a means for me to get knowledge from others for free by interviewing them! And in so doing, I accidentally created a resource for other people as well who liked to learn via interview. Additionally, I hired interns from day one to do my “outsource” work for me. The reason I was able to get interns early on is because delegation is a strength of mine. The platform I created wasn’t about myself, it was all about highlighting other women and in so doing, I unintentionally created a platform for myself. What are you most proud of when it comes to your business? How much I have learned. I feel like a different person, I am more confident, more curious, and am a better person in general. I was making 80K in my previous job and didn’t donate a PENNY, now my entire business is wrapped about donations and giving back to the community, specifically the charity called The Micah Project. If you could go back in time and change one thing about how you started your side hustle, what would you change?I think everything is supposed to happen the way it’s supposed to happen. Of course, I wish I knew more back then and wish I had started creating courses earlier or started my email list, but honestly it’s a learning experience. Sometimes you can learn something and not implement it until a few months later when you’re actually ready. I wouldn’t change anything because that’s not how I function – I look forward not backwards. How do you manage your time? What does your daily and weekly schedule look like?Every morning at 9am I talk to my interns and delegate out tasks. The tasks vary according to what the projects I have going on at the time, so some weeks it’s heavy on design, other weeks it’s heavy on writing. Once I delegate those tasks, I have rough goals of what I personally want to accomplish, like work on my course or schedule out 1 month worth of content on the blog. The only deadlines I have are that I post one new blog post every single day at 6PM CST and one new post on each of my Instagram accounts – personal and professional. Let’s talk tech. Did you build your own website and set up all of your own tech? What was that experience like? If you could go back in time, what would you do differently? I built everything myself. It was super hard, every time I thought I had something down, another technical error popped back up and back to Google I went to learn how to solve it. If you have the funds, definitely invest in someone to do it for you so you can focus on creating business, but if you don’t, well you don’t have any other option! What have you spent under $100 on recently that has made the most impact in your business. A Pinterest course which I got on sale for about $100 that helped me learn how to use Pinterest properly to boost my traffic. What have you spent OVER $100 that has made the most impact in your business? I created my online course using Teachable, it’s just $39 a month but I got their Black Friday Deal for the entire year for around $200. I also became their affiliate and have made a ton of money from promoting them. They are a great company to work with and are always running promotions, contests and handing out freebies. What online courses have you taken? Which ones have had the most impact and the greatest return on investment for your business? This affiliate marketing course. That course helped me learn the basics to affiliate marketing and that is when I started understanding the concepts behind how to create PASSIVE INCOME. I’ve now set up a few more income streams with my affiliate marketing training. If you participate in coaching or a mastermind, what is the most notable transformation you’ve gotten from that experience. Taking online courses are my form of masterminds. I prefer to do it myself but with a little guidance. What one podcast would you recommend to someone just getting started? How about a couple years in?Darren Rause’s ProBlogger podcast! I find his podcast to be extremely applicable and useful, every blogger should be listening to it! What one book would you recommend to someone who is side hustling with the goal of becoming self-employed? 5 Day Weekend. This book transformed my way of thinking. My favorite quote from the book is, “If you don’t find a way to make money in your sleep, you will work until you die.” What belief about yourself did you have to change to get where you are today?I truly believed that I had no skills when I first started. I was both passionless and purposeless, a terrible combination! But honestly, believing that it was up to me to change my circumstances helped me pull through and get out of the rut I was in. What advice would you give someone who is struggling to grow their side hustle?Stay committed. The key to becoming successful is simply staying CONSISTENT. Find one thing you love then hone it, perfect it, and master it. Where can our listeners find out more about you online? Jonny & Yusef from PropaneFitness.com are back again. This time we asked for questions from listeners at home, and oh boy did we get some interesting ones... We talk honestly about our relationships with each other, open up regarding our own mental health battles, and elucidate what is probably the best short-form life advice we can give you. Plus we work out what is the biggest animal we can single handedly cling film to a lamppost. Listen through until the end to find out what episodes and topics we have coming up and hear me begin to articulate "My Why". Also... This probably ranks as my favourite episode to record so far. The questions are so wide ranging and either interesting or ridiculous; both of which are fantastic to answer. It's a credit to the community who tune into these podcasts, so thank you. In episode 5, I talk to you about my WHY. It’s a complex, multilayered why of wanting to show up for my children so that they grow up to be adults who have mindfulness, can process their emotions and have all of the tools they need to CHOOSE the life they want to live and then LIVE it. The only way I can teach my children this is to lead by example. To process my own emotions, have accountability for them, to fuel my body the right way, to move, to meditate, to do the work I WANT to do and not the work that is expected of my (by family or society), to fill my day with the things that bring me to my core desired feelings. My challenge for you this week is to find out what your why is. If you want change in your life, WHY? I started this year off great. I was losing weight, as time went on, I began to YoYo. So while I'm still down 5 lbs from the beginning of the year I wasn't making much progress. Over the memorial day weekend I dusted off my favorite to do list tool todoist.com and it was a mess. I cleared out all the old stuff, and I got focused. So I had to decide what would be my number one focus. I had a few. I'm working on a new version of a book I originally wrote in 2012 call More Podcast Money. I might do a revamp of the School of Podcasting's website (even though I did one five months ago, but there is a new bright and shiny tool for websites ---oooohhh. I am working on turning a diary form 1995 into a podcast called the History of the Band Six Shooter. Then I noticed something. None of my priorities included the phrase "Lose weight," or "Eat less, exercise more." THAT is what I was not losing weight. It wasn't a priority. That was on Monday. On Tuesday the 29th, I got a call from a friend of mine letting me know that a group of my peers has chosen me to be inducted into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of fame. The ceremony is in two months. The minute I got off the phone I said to myself. YOU WILL GET UP AND GO TO THE GYM. The interesting thing was, this was not a question, this was not a possibility, this was a fact. Sure enough, Wednesday rolled around and at 6:45 AM I was in my shorts on the way to the gym. I was doing High-Intensity Interval Training on a treadmill sweating my butt off. So what changed? My Why. Look, I know that if I don't exercise and eat bad food I will gain weight. I increase my chances of cancer, stroke, diabetes, and include any other horrible diseases you want here. For some reason, those don't motivate me. Don't get me wrong. They SHOULD, but if I'm gonna be honest they don't. Maybe I'm a fool and think that I'll be lucky and dodge those bullets. This like ignoring that you are putting water in a bucket and eventually it's going to get full. You see eventually it will get full. So for now, my appetite is gone, my motivation is off the charts and I'm hyper-focused. The ceremony is July 24th. What happens after July 24th? Well, hmmmm. My goal is I will develop healthy habits and just keep on doing what I'm doing. There is that negative voice in my head that says, "Sure, go ahead and do your little exercise stuff, do your healthy eating, whatever, I'll be back." For now, I'm going to ignore that voice and politely go tell him to piss off. That voice is always there, always will be there, and the more I learn to ignore it the better I will be. So if you're why isn't inspiring you to do the right things that lead to weight loss, find a new why. I'm here to tell you the right "why" can make a world of difference. Isabel Hundt is the author of The Power of Faith-Driven Success: A Journey Toward Living Your Dream by 30 and certified vision and Transformation Coach and International Speaker. She’s a world visionary and an ambassador of Global Presence Leadership. She travels all over to share her enlightening message of tuning in to our true selves by understanding the connection between our heart and our brain. She is also teaching how to use our emotions as a powerful guide for success in all areas of our lives instead of experiencing emotions as a distraction. She’s a proud Christ follower, wife and a mother to son Jonah. Isabel enjoys kick boxing and body combat. Question Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey How do you feel about customer experience in your own life, the things you’ve experience and what role do you think that plays in you being able to help people transform into their best selves? What are some everyday solutions that you believe can help improve customer experience? How do you feel about leadership in a business? What role do you think leadership plays in the whole customer experience process and the emotions around that as well? As a Visionary, as a Coach, what are some important considerations that you would recommend they take into account moving into the online space in order to be successful? How do you stay motivated every day? What is the one online resource, website, tool or app that you absolutely cannot live without in your business? What are some of the books that have had the biggest impact on you? If you were sitting across the table from another business owner and they said to you that they feel they have great products and services but they lack the constantly motivated human capital, what’s the one piece of advice would you give them to have a successful business? What is one thing in your life right now that you are really excited about – something that you are working on to develop yourself or people? Where can our listeners find your information online? What is one quote or saying that you live by or that inspires you in times of adversity? Highlights Isabel Hundt shared that she that when she was young, she had a lot of out of body experiences, at some point she had a head trauma and when she had the head trauma, she was out of her body and she could watch herself and there are other times where she felt like she could leave her body which was weird and she always reacted weird to other people that were in pain. For example, she laughed when they were hurting and she know why, she would say, “oh my god, it’s so embarrassing, I shouldn’t be laughing, it’s not funny, they are hurting” and looking back she knows it was a coping mechanism for her to not take on their stuff but when she was 12 years old, she had a vision that she would be moving the United States of America, she is originally from Germany where she grew up and her family is there. She had the vision and that she would be speaking in front of a lot of people and she didn’t quite know how it was going to happen because she didn’t have any connections and she also got into psychology and sociology around the same time, she grew up in the so call DDR, East Germany and they grew up Christian and so her dad wasn’t allowed study because he participated in church activities so when the walls came down he was finally able to get his Degree and that was when she was about 12 years old and that time she studied with him which was fun and when she was 18 years old, she went to the USA for an exchange year which was interesting because she really sucked speaking the language, she didn’t know what, “you’re welcome” meant. She then had to go back and she didn’t feel at home anymore, something didn’t feel right, it was just off and her dad would always say, “one day we’re going to do something together, we’re going to work together” and of course when you’re 19 years old you’re like, “heck no, I’m independent now.” She studied economics and failed, they kicked her out after 2 years and she started to have really bad depressions and she didn’t care if there was a car coming or not, she was just done with the world, everything was noisy and loud. When they kicked her out of university, she had to figure out what she wanted to do next and she finally admitted that she probably should go into the social science field because that’s what she was always been interested in, so she did that and started over and somehow she got into a really bad relationship with an American guy but that’s how she really came over so she is kind of grateful to him but that ended too after she finished her studying and she still came over and worked as a nanny. In that process she got to know her now husband and because he didn’t want to get married right away, she almost got deported and that was interesting. She had to go to Canada which was quite the experience and all that up and down and she didn’t what she wanted to do, she never felt like she really trusted her intuition and that’s when through a friend of a friend she started to get into the coaching world and she participated in a training, “This was exactly what I need to do because I need to understand who I am. I don’t feel German, I don’t feel American, who am I?” and within that journey of becoming a certified coach, she also realize that she is an empath which means that she experience the world more intense, she can see through people, she sees color around people, it’s a lot of stuff that she takes in and never knew how to trust that intuition or to work with it and throughout the journey she got to where she is today. Isabel Hundt stated that she used to do a presentation at Ball State University about customer service and they would look at like she’s crazy because nobody really understands that the customer service starts with you and they believe that customer service is the foundation to success in whatever you offer in your business, customer service is nothing different than creating relationships and being open to the experience with the other person. The problem that she sees often with customer service is that we don’t not have that self awareness, that often we don’t understand is what we focus on we create more of, what is going on inside of us is being reflected on the outside, that’s what’s happening around us. For example, if somebody comes into work and already has a crappy day and you have someone call you and they need help or support, you would react differently to them than if you had a happy or great day and even though the other person’s reaction wasn’t any different, you just experience it differently so if we have that awareness of what’s going on. For example, you can simply acknowledge, “oh shut, I have a crappy day today, I don’t know what’s going on, I feel frustrated, I feel angry, I’m not sure why” but if we just simply acknowledge it, you don’t have to go through the whole process of analyzing but just acknowledge it, we are able to take that apart from what we experience in relationship type of setting and we can say, “okay, I hear them differently, it’s nothing personal what they’re saying, I don’t have to react to it, I can set my stuff aside to be available to them” and that’s why she thinks self awareness is the foundation to great customer service, yet customer service is the foundation to successful life and business. Isabel stated that emotions aren’t just emotions; they are what we make them, who would determine that anger has a certain chemical reaction in your body, we define it and we can acknowledge, “oh, that’s what’s going on, it’s okay, I am okay, I just don’t have to act on it react to it by pushing it on someone else” Isabel shared that for one, it depends on the setting but if you have a small business and it’s just you, definitely having a ritual every day, if it’s in the morning or before whenever you start working and for her, it’s usually around lunch time because she has a 3 year old when he’s finally asleep. Before she really start getting into work or connecting with people, she sits down and either meditate in her case and sometimes just a reflection yourself is really important just to understand, “okay, what’s going on today, what do I have to work through today that could get in the way for me to create successful connections with people that I really want to be of service to?” that’s the one thing that she really stretch with everyone. When she teach that at universities, the staff always looks at her like, “yeah, can we have a little more business like instead of all the psychology behind it” they don’t really want to take that responsibility, so it’s a little tough. If you can be compassionate with yourself and understanding and acknowledging it, you are more likely to show more compassion to those who you serve, if they have a bad day, you’re not jumping on board, you can just say, “hey, do you having a bad day? I’m sorry if you do, it’s okay and I still see you” so feeling seen creates the connection, the connection again is the foundation of a successful business. So the most important if you remember anything from this conversation, self reflection is the first thing someone should do to have a successful business. Isabel agreed that leaders have their own emotions and depending on your mode, your energy can manifest into the physical space and that can have a positive or negative impact on the staff and then eventually spill over to the customers. She stated that she used to work in corporate America for a year and she didn’t like it because she was the Administrative Assistant and was responsible for all those people and sometimes she would sit there and listen to people talk to customers and would say to herself, “do you actually want to work with that customer or you don’t? Because right now it sounds like you don’t” and even with each other. She thinks that customer service starts with the group itself, if there is tension within the people that work for you, those tensions come across with the customer, so for everyone that is a leader who is leading a group of people needs to stretch on team building and team building is the focus on self that’s why really successful companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook as well as Amazon, they all have life coaches, so their employees, most of them have at least one session a month or they have free access to a life coach and there is more of team building going on as their foundation than the actual growth of the business. If your team feels valued and seen, automatically your business will grow too because they do whatever it takes to grow this business because that means they feel a part of a big team, a mission, something that’s really important and that as a leader of a company if you have employees, for one you need to do the work yourself, that’s something she has realized, they usually send their employees to her workshops and expect that they will change the environment they are working in but they don’t want to do the work and that’s what hurts most companies. Isabel stated that most of her clients are online. She said that for one, it is more convenient with a child at home that young but it allows her to work with people from all over the world, from France, Sweden, and India and all over the USA and she found and it depends on where you live. She stated that where she lives people are very conservative so it takes a lot to break through that wall and outside of it people are more open to what she’s talking about and what she teach and coach on. She does work mostly online but when she speaks, then she is travelling. Isabel stated that if you want to take everything online, the most important for her is authenticity, if suddenly you come across online differently than in your physical store, that will distract from your brand and people get confuse and when people get confuse, they will not buy from you. Authenticity, really understanding what you want to bring across online, what you want people to understand about who you are and your business that you can also implement or that you have already implemented in your brick and mortar business. Especially if you have a store and you want to take it online she really believes in help from people that have a lot of knowledge like Web Designers, they understand how to use different colors that really reflect your personality and your work because callers also have frequency as well as emotions where they create emotions or support certain emotions so people have to be aware of what they use even there online, what do you want to bring across, how you want people to feel when they look at what you represent. That goes back to personal development, Who are you? What is your message? What do you want to bring across? How do you want to serve people? What do you want other people to take away from it? And you can’t really answer those questions unless you are really aware of who you are and your purpose. Isabel share that sometimes we take My Why a little bit too easy, it’s not just, “my WHY is to support my family financially” it needs to serve for the greater good. She stated that her WHY is to create a deeper connection inner culturally to understand that even though your background is different or the way you grew up or the traditions are different, it doesn’t make you any different as a human being. Her big Why is to bring people together to really connect on such a deep level that we can understand that without each other we can’t do anything and even if we live a thousand miles away from each other, we still impact each other in the way we think, in the way we operate, it has a ripple effect, that’s her greater purpose, that’s greater vision that she has so if you start with the WHY and only say, “my WHY is supporting my family” that’s not enough, that keeps it too limited and you don’t think outside the box. Isabel stated that what keeps her motivated is one, her Why, the essence of what she do what she do, she can’t just let it go, there’s too much at stake to not to do her work and she would be responsible. She always remind herself that if she doesn’t do the work that she is call to do, she is responsible for the people she could have impacted or that she could have supported and served if she had stuck with it, so the moderation is to keep that vision in mind, “Who am I impacting and what are the consequences if I succeed?” that is her biggest motivation and music helps her too. Music changes your vibration energy which the frequency of your body either increases or decreases depending on what you listen to and when she feels really demotivated, she listens to inspiring music and it feels like she is able to conquer everything, she is a leader and once she gets to that she feels she can move forward and stay motivated. Isabel stated that she was thinking about that question and she couldn’t quite find an answer, she was looking though everything that she is using but what she could not live without is her Virtual Assistant or her Web Designer the two people, she knows that they are not a tool or something that she uses online but those are the two things that if she didn’t have them her business would not be where it’s at or where she wanted it to go. She stated that they take such a load off her shoulders, it’s incredible. She stated that if you have an online business she would recommend that you get a Virtual Assistant and have a Web Designer always on your side. If something happens, within 2 minutes they can check, “okay, I got it” without you having to try and figure it out or make it even worst. Isabel stated that the other online resources that are really helpful like Buffer or Hootsuite are important if you want to save time and one thing that she learnt is focus on a few social platforms, don’t try to get into everything and get on board with everything new. Focus on 2 or 3 things that you are comfortable with and do whatever it takes to get your name out on those social platforms. Isabel shared that the book she read over the last year that really impacted the way she thinks and the way she experience things is The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings Are Trying to Tell You by Karla McLaren, it’s more written for empathy so if you’re not really an empathy and don’t want to get too deep into it, don’t read it but if you’re really interested in it then it will definitely help in coping with a lot of things and understanding a lot of things. Isabel stated that the advice that she would give is the advice that she gives herself everyday and that is trust. If you are in alignment, if what you do, what you send out is in alignment with what you have on your heart, that dream that really fires you up every single day, you need to trust. You can’t go out and follow everyone strategy and try to make everything work and sign up for every program that you can find just to make something happen, you need to trust and with every decision you make, ask yourself, “is that in alignment with who I am?, does this really work for me? And is it in alignment with my greater purpose?” If it’s not trust that you don’t need it at this time or ever but really trust. Trust, reflect and listen from within, those are the small advice points that she always give that she always give to herself as well. Isabel stated that the one thing that she is really excited about is doing sessions that are called Releasing Trapped Emotions because those are really important for us to be able to move forward otherwise we will always ending up where we started. Those are the 2 things that she is really excited about but she is also excited about working on a Ted Talk and that’s something she is doing right now and she got a lot of support from people who have done it before, who have the connections so she is super excited and nervous. In the near future she wants to create a more specific course about emotions and how to identify them and work through them with getting all wrapped up in it and that’s something she going to be working on in the spring and those are the few things she is working on right now. Isabel shared listeners can find her at – www.isabelhundt.com Isabel Hundt Facebook Isabel Hundt Istagram Isabel Hundt LinkedIn Isabel Hundt Twitter Isabel Hundt YouTube Isabel shared that she usually reverts to Matthew 17:20 and usually people say that you can’t bring the Bible into your business but for her it’s faith and science. It says, “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” And especially when we know the science part about it that we are able to just with the way we think, that we really can move mountains in that sense, just knowing that keeps her going. We are here, we are destined for something greater and we as a human world society, we have a responsibility to do better than what we’ve done so far. The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.-Tommy Lasorda Click Below to Listen to Today's Show If you think it's impossible or possible, you are right. Tommy Lasorda was a great Manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lasorda was a blueblood in baseball. That's because he bled Dodger Blue. He was a great team motivator. This quote is truth in my book and on my podcast. Are you thinking, "There's no possible way I could lose 40 Pounds in 16 Weeks. Just because Tony did that, doesn't mean I can." Or are you thinking. "Wow! I could lose 40 Pounds in 16 Weeks. I have the time to do what he said he did. I want to lose the weight so I can live a life of wellness and fulfillment. I can do this." Well, You're Right! Both statements are true. Both are fact. Tommy Lasorda explains the truth to both of those statements. The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination. a person's determination; how bad do they want it; what's their motivation; What's Their Why? A person's determination is created by their motivation. It is governed by, ruled by the reason. How bad you want it is powered by your WHY. We've talked about The What and The How. Today I want to get into and get to your Why! The Why is the 3rd Key to Goal Setting Success. You could argue that it's really the first key of the 3 Keys. Without knowing and understanding Your Why you may not be able to know the difference between the impossible and the possible. So what is The Why? The Why is just what it says. It is the real reason for your motivation. We talk about being motivated to achieve our goals, motivated to succeed. Whether you follow the original 5 Stage version of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs or the extended 7 Stage version, there are basic needs that motivate people, you and me. Each person is different. What affects me or motivates me is not what motivates you. My needs are different than yours. I also believe that our motivations and needs can be different for each goal or dream that we have. It is important to understand what motivates us want to achieve each of the goals we set if we want to achieve them. The key to being successful in goal setting is understanding what YOUR WHY is. Why do you want to achieve this particular goal at this time. How do you know what your Why is? Your WHY will probably be something you weren't thinking about initially once you start this Whysercize. My primary goal this year is is to #WorkOnWellness. We have to understand what wellness is. Wellness is not just being a certain weight. Wellness is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. We should have a mixed balance in all of these areas and we will be well. The first part of this #WorkOnWellness goal is to get down to 185 pounds. Why do you want to get down to 185 pounds? I want to be healthier. What does being healthier mean to you? Being healthier to me means to not have Type 2 Diabetes, to not have to take 3-4 types of medicine to control my blood sugar, not have to take high blood pressure medicine, to not have to take cholesterol medicine. I hate having to give myself insulin shots and worry about taking medicines with me whenever I travel. Why do you not like to take all of that medicine? It's inconvenient to sort, to store it, to remember to take it. If it will help save your life why is that a problem? I hate having to pay $300-400 per month for medicines that I shouldn't have to take in the first place. If I took better care of myself and lost down to my goal weight, which is 185 pounds, I would lower my blood sugars and not have to take all of those medicines. I would save myself 3-400 dollars a month that I could use on other things. So your main reason for wanting to lose weight to your goal weight is to get off of the medication and save $400 a month? Yes, and to live longer and be able to enjoy life. And actually, living a longer, more enjoyable life is a benefit of reaching your #WorkOnWellness goal. . . . but not the main reason. For me, yes. That's part of the vision, part of My Why, but I see it more of a benefit received when I reach that goal, not the why itself. My Why is to wasting money on medicine I shouldn't have to take if I took better care of myself. OK, That's my "Whysercise" to get to the real why FOR ME. Yea, I want to live a longer life. I want to be able to do things with my grandkids, if I ever have any. But, for me, my why, the reason I want to lose my weight is so I can keep the money I work hard for and be able to spend it on fun, exciting, memorable things. Wait, you say! You don't have to pay for those medicines. You could just stop taking them and not have pay for them. You know you're right. And I did that for years. Remember, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 1997. It's almost 20 years later. I went through a period of of denial and not doing what I needed to do. I ended up reaching a weight of 296 pounds. When you go to the doctor because your knees are hurting and he tells you, "Thin people don't have this problem" or they asks you, "Which foot do you think I will have to amputate first?" or "You should start learning braille now, so when you do go blind you will be able to read." And I asked him, "Can I just keep doing it 'til I need glasses?" Wait, sorry that's a different topic the doctor and I were talking about when I was younger, FLASHBACK Anyway, the point is, I don't want to lose a foot, go blind or die. So, as I get older . . . and wiser, I realize that if I want to be able to buy my dream car or go to Bora Bora, I am going to need that extra money. Hopefully you get my point. What's Your Why? Today's Quote is from Mahatma Gandhi Click Below to Listen to Today's Show It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold or silver.~~ Mahatma Gandhi I think Gandhi had something here. Health is wealth. Are you more concerned with building your wealth than taking care of your health? I know that was a problem for me early on in my career. As I've gotten older, I have learned that my health is more important than I realized. This is a common problem with entrepreneurs and other career minded people. When I was working toward my goal of building my career, I often spent more time working and traveling than I did on my health. Goals are important and I believe in striving to be the best. However, that doesn't mean we should abandon our own health in those pursuits. One of my goals for the last few years has been to lose weight. As I was building my career I neglected myself. Always worrying about the next dollar, the next client, the next project. Working on creating a business, whether my own or someone else's I sacrificed my health to improve the health of the businesses. Do you do that? Are you working on your business and spending all your time working on and in the business. Do you go home exhausted and get limited amounts of sleep? Do you eat at your desk? Do you spend your days in meetings, or working on projects, then head back to the hotel and eat a pizza in your room and then go to bed? I did that for years. I would go out to dinner late after working 12 - 15 hour days and eat a great, tasty meal, have a couple drinks or beers with dinner and then go back to my hotel room and go to bed. I am now, like many entrepreneurs and consultants, paying the price. When I say paying the price, I literally mean paying it. One of the biggest problems with not taking care of yourself and eating properly is the possibility of disease. Diseases like Type 2 Diabetes is a common result for this type of lifestyle. Type 2 Diabetes will cost you financially, as well and physically. You can die from Type 2 Diabetes. You can lose your sight, your feet and other body parts because you didn't take care of yourself. That's bad in itself and scary. What's also scary is the financial cost. When I started writing down my WHY for wanting to lose weight in my current goal this year. Yes, living a longer, healthier life is one of my WHY's. But, the biggest WHY for me in this instance is that I want to stop spending over $200 per month on the medicine I have to take to keep my Type 2 Diabetes under control. There is so much more I could do with that money than paying for meds to keep me alive. Are you a Type 2 Diabetic because of your career? Well, let's be honest. It's not the careers fault. It's my fault. It's your fault. I / You made the decision to eat what we did. We made the decision to not take a walk or run before going into the office or after work. We chose to live the lifestyle we lived. Now, I am paying for it, literally. My WHY for my goal is to stop paying for it. I am building the habits necessary to make a lifestyle change to become healthier than I have ever been. I am building the habits to live a longer life. Understand that Gandhi is right - "Health is the real wealth not pieces of gold or silver." It will certainly pay you to pay attention to your health. Hello Goal Getter Nation, This is Tony Woodall, your host for Goal Getting Podcast. Today we're going to be talking about Defining Your Why Why Baby Why? And what we're talking about with that is, "why do you do what you do? Or, "why are you trying to get the goals you set?" One of the most difficult things, I think, to get the goals you set, is to determine what your why is, to Define Your Why. I found it easier to write it down as I'm thinking about it along with My What, which is what I want to achieve and My How, the action steps I have to do to accomplish it So I created a worksheet to help me create My What, My How and My Why and you can download a copy of the worksheet later at GoalGettingPodcast.com/action And, I've been to motivational speaking seminars for many years. I've gone to more than I can think of, or as my grandparents use to say, More than I can shake a stick at. You know I used to go to see a lot of motivational speakers since I was in my early 20's. When I first heard about products from Amway, I became an Amway distributor many, many, many years ago. One of the things that got me started is I wanted to be successful. I wanted to make a lot of money. I wanted to be wealthy. I wanted to enjoy life. And I wanted to be motivated so I started going to the motivational seminars to learn more about the business and things. I got involved along with Amway and later in life several other multi-level marketing or direct marketing organizations and I don't have anything bad to say about them. So I am not talking negative or positive about that particular experience because I did learn a lot business, about life, about sales and marketing working in those organizations. But I also got my start listening and studying motivational speakers. And I love motivational speakers. I still listen to motivational speakers today. You know I’ve listened to some of the best. I went to several Tony Robbins seminars; I've got and read all of his books and several taped programs of his. Mark Victor Hanson, I listened to him before he did the Chicken Soup for the Soul series that he's involved in. I've listened to many, many motivational speakers. I did the sound for one, Mike... and I can't remember his name now. He helped me when I spoke to him one morning at breakfast and we were talking about being motivated and being successful and you know, we talked about some family relationships I had with my birth father, and they weren't good relationships. He was talking about how we had to forgive those who had wronged us. We don't have to necessarily be around them or like them, but we do have to forgive them. That was the key. It has nothing to do with motivation, but it does motivate you because being angry with people doesn't get you motivated. When we're talking about goals, one of the things I did going to motivational seminars, one of the things that you see frequently, is they ask you and they start bringing up all of these different things that motivate people and ask what motivates you. Is it new cars? Maybe it's that Rolls Royce, or that Bentley or the Maybach. In my day, back when I was going through this as a youngster, it was the Cadillac that was the thing. It was the Cadillac El Dorado was my favorite car that I wanted back then. That was the thing you strived for was to have a big, fancy car, whether the Cadillac, Rolls Royce or Bentley, a Ferrari or BMW, a sports car or something like that. Was that what motivated you? A new car. Or maybe it was a new home or a mansion. I remember talking about getting this big home with white columns on it. I am from the south and we always invisioned having the columns on the outside of our homes. One of the things you wanted a home on a golf course or a beach house, a mountain retreat or second home for vacations on the beach or whatever. So alot of times you are motived or try to get motivated for success or to make a lot of money or whatever. Money Motivated is the big thing alot of people talk about. I am personally money motivated. I like to do things to earn money. But, money isn't really the money that's motivating you and me. I got thinking about that later on in life. We think about money and what are the things that motivate you. In today's episode it's kind of about motivation. So I want you to think while we are talking here. What motivates you. What gets' you excited to get out of bed and to do the things like that. What motivates you? Because we start looking at these things as we start looking at new cars, new homes, vactaions, I love to cruise. I have been on many cruises with different cruise lines. I love to travel. I haven't traveled as much as I would have like to. I've been mostly in the Caribbean. My goal is to travel on the Pacific side. Out in the Pacific, go to Hawaii, Tahiti, Singapore, maybe some other places in Asia. I still want to visit Japan. As a martial artist my martial arts instructor and sensei, the gransmaster is in Japan. He's been to the states several times and I've taken seminars with him and learned, but i never got an opportunity to go to Japan and train with him there at the schools there. That's still one of my goals. So Travel is a motivation. Finally maybe you've got a goal or the motivation is money. Again, Financial is a big motivator for a lot of people. You've got kids and want to put them through college or put yourself through college, or pay for your college you got. Most millinials today have so much college debt. Student loans and things like that. I am paying for my daughter's student loans. I'm paying for my daughter's student loans, or more so my student loans for my daughter, Not her's as she has her own student loans which are more than mine, actually, which is really sad when you think about it. Maybe you want to do something for putting yourself, your children, or your Grandchildren, though college at some point in time. Maybe you just want to increase your income or get a job. Those are some motivational things for dealing with Financial or money. Maybe your motivation is health. To Lose Weight, get in better shape, to be able to run a marathon or an ultra-marathon. I found out about ultra-marathon and I didn't realize there was a such thing as an Ultra-Marathon until recently when one of my coworkers was talking about his wife and he, who do ultra-marathons on the weekend. I didn't realize they were called ultra-marathons until after. He talked about how she goes out to run 100 mile runs on the weekend. It's like a 36 hour of runnning they do. Man that is amazing that someone can run that far. You have to be able to be motivated to do that, in my opinion. What we want to talk about today is not these type of motivation or the things that excite you or motivate you or want to have. These are goals, I believe, they aren't really motivations. They are goals you can have, but when you think about goals and setting and achieving goals, one of the key elements I used to forget about and never rally thought about it, Why do I want that. Another motivational speaker, and I apologize I can't remember which one it was that I had heard and was talking to one day and listening to one of their talks and they said, You really have to know your Why! And I didn't understand that when I first heard that. I thought, Why, Why Why do I do this and that's really one of the biggest things you have to think about when you want to set a goal and learning the Goal Getting, Don't Just Set'em Get'em Program that I teach on this podcast, Goal Getting Podcast or at seminars, or webinars that I do is talking about knowing your Why. I used to just talk about in my presentations that I did for Goal Getting, even before I learned about the Why part, was that you had to understand your motivations. Really, when you think about motivation there are two types of motivation I learned about. 1) People are motivated by what called "Away Motivation" They are really trying to get away from something, and that is what motivates them. So, the fear of going into bankruptcy is something that motivates a lot of people. They don't want to lose everything; they don't want to go to the poor house. That is one thing that motivates a lot of people, moving away from something bad. They don't want to get sick and die. They don't want to have a heart attack. They don't want to have an accident in their car, so they drive safely. Those are Away Motivations that people have. I used to teach and ask, “what are you trying to get away from”. 2) The other way people are motivated is "Towards Motivation". We try to get things to come towards us - like joy, happiness, a feeling of excitement, an adrenaline rush. Whatever it is that we want to get that feeling or excitement Towards us. We have the Toward Motivation and then we have the Away Motivation. That's what I originally thought about as the motivating factors for setting goals. Until I heard that one motivational speaker talk, and I apologize I can't remember who it was I was listening to. But, what they really talked about was, and this is what I teach now is, You have to know your Why. Why do you do what you’re doing to be successful, or what is the reason why you do your goals. Why is very important and you have to start looking at it. I have been studying Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma type programs and one of the things they teach you in the six sigma process is to ask WHY. There is a minimum of 5-7 whys that you have to drill down to. It's kind of like a 3-4 year old. When my daughters were young, I dreaded the 3-4 year old stage because they asked about 4000 questions a day, it seemed, one every minute, and typically my daughters would always ask Why, Why, Why. I never always knew the answer, so I eventually always said, "because I said So." I did actually use that on my daughters a couple times and that was really wrong when they wanted to know why and especially as they got older and I had to tell them they couldn't do something. They always asked Why. But that's a different kind of why. As a child, your curiosity is very strong so you always wondering, sometimes as a matter of habit after a while. You have children as they are growing up 2-3-4 years old that start asking why about everything, You say do this, they go why, do this, why, because you need to do it this way and they go why...everybody is questioning authority and questioning the reason for whatever you are telling them to do at that age. That's because they are learning. And when you're working with your goals and you’re working with motivation and things like that you really have to understand what your Why is. Why do I want to do this, for example: Why do you want to lose weight? I've wanted to lose weight for quite a long time and mainly you have to think about asking why you want to lose weight. Well, I want to lose weight because I'm tired of being fat. I actually had my youngest daughter came up to me one day when I was sitting on the couch. She was probably about 3 - 4 years old if that old. She came up and asked, "Daddy, Why are you fat?" It hurt like crazy, but she didn't mean anything about it, she was just wondering and someone had been talking about fat people and may have even been talking about me. But, I was overweight, incredibly overweight at time and she goes, why are you overweight? I didn't have a good answer for her, other than the fact I liked to eat and I didn't eat properly. When I started trying to lose weight, I didn't think about my why for that. I started thinking about, well, I just don't like being overweight, I look ugly, I look fat, that was kind of my motivation at the time. I didn't want to be fat; I just wanted to be thin as people are supposed to be. As I got older, I got medical because of being overweight. I became a type 2 diabetic. Now, as I start losing weight, and I am on a weight loss program. I lost a bunch of weight. When I hit that scale one morning and realized looking at the scale and it read it say 296 pounds, I well, I almost crapped my pants, to be honest with you. I just could not believe it. I had been travelling a lot and eating out a lot and eating terrible foods and usually eating very little during the day, and then a big dinner or an whole, entire Domino’s Pizza or something in the hotel room right before going to bed, which is a horrible thing to do. That lead to obesity and it also led to the Type II Diabetes. Now when you get into that particular health situation, it costs money because you are spending money on all of these different drugs, because you not only end up with the diabetes medicine, you end up with high blood pressure and several other things you can get .. . High Cholesterol levels so you get on all of these different medicines and dad gum it, that's expensive. When I started my weight loss programs now as I got older I started thinking about what I need to do. What is my why? Why do I want to lose weight? It's not just to look good. I'm married, I have two beautiful daughters. I'm not trying to impress the ladies, or anyone else. I got over that long ago. But as I start thinking about my Why now, my Why is because I want to be healthy. I'd like to live longer. I'm getting up in age. My parents didn't live as long as I would like them to have lived. My Grandparents also had health issues and passed away too early. I started looking at this with my children, who I love dearly, and want at some point in my life to have grandchildren and be able to play and love and run around and have fun with them and spoil the crap out of them and take them to Walt Disney World and take them to amusement parks and things like that and have fun with them. Play ball with them if it's a boy or a girl play ball with them, run with them. Just have a good time. To do that, I have to be healthy. I have to live long enough to be able to do that because I don't know if my daughters are going to do it any time soon, have children so I can have grandchildren. So, in that respect, I have to live a long time to get where I can enjoy those bundles of joy. Right now, if I don't take care of myself I'm not going to be able to do that. The other is asking me, why that matters. I want to stop paying a heck of a lot of money for drugs. I want to save the 200-300 dollars per month I am spending on medicine. So if I just look at the why's for just losing weight, I realize that my ultimate why is for me is to not have to pay that money I am paying the doctor and to live longer and healthier. I want to be able to do a lot of things as I get older. I don't want to be restrained to a wheelchair or sit on the couch and things like that. I started thinking about your why and I started having my daughters and started raising my kids, I realized a lot of my why at that time became my daughters, my children. I wanted to succeed, to make more money, I wanted to have a better career so I could provide them with the things I never had. When you are thinking about your goals, I want you to start thinking about Why! Why do I want it. You need to keep asking yourself - If you say, I want to be successful or make a lot of money, our double your income, WHY do you want to double your income. I'm working with a client now who wants to double her income. We're talking about business and how she can do that, the different ways to do it. Let's focus on what your why is. Why do you want to double your income? Yes, you want to make more money, you want to be able to spend your money and do different things, but Why? We got to talking and she said she wanted to be able to do this, or provide for women, to be a motivational person to other women of certain ages. And I asked why do you want to do that? She said, I want to be able to do it, so I can make a little more money and provide for my son. I want to help him go to college. So, as we start going into the why, we keep asking, why do you want to do that? Why is that important to you? As you start asking yourself those questions, you start really defining, what is the real reason you are doing what you are doing. The reason I say that's really critical and the thing I found when I was talking to that motivational speaker that set me straight on this motivation as know your why because when you get frustrated, or get down, get extremely tired because things aren't going your way, instead of saying Screw It! You start thinking, why am I doing this, that WHY is stuck in your brain, within your heart, you understand why you're doing this particular goal and what it's going to take, you are going to continue to do it. You’re going to continue to start fighting to be the success and to get the goal that you set. You are going to make that final decision to continue because you know why you’re doing that. It's really important to understand your Why. It's not just because you want a new car. It's not just because you want to travel, It's not just because you want to have a big house. Bigger than the Jones' or whatever, or it could be, but it depends on what your why is. Everybody is different. What is your why? Maybe your why is because you want to be better than the Jones' or have more than your neighbors. It's really your why and that's what is important. Knowing your why is very, very important. Not just in motivation but in life. So, you want to, when you are setting your goals, when you write down your goals you know what you want, specifically, you are very specific, you're being realistic, you set that deadline, you got your action plan. You working on the actions you have to take and you are taking actions. You're measuring it. You're tracking your progress as you go along. You're seeing that you're doing that. Every day you start thinking. Not only do I have the What and the How and now I have the Why. I know why I am doing what I am doing. It keeps you motivated. It keeps you wanting to go forward. It keeps you on that track and on that path to achieve your goals. As long as you know and understand what your why is, it will make traveling on that path to success and achieving your goal much easier. Make sure you sit down, you think about what is your why. Know you why and if you know your why, you'll be successful. Michael Hyatt has a goal setting program he teaches and I was listening to his talk at the end of last year. His wife, Gloria, has a quote that she says, that he shared with us: "When People Lose Their Why, They Lose Their Way." -Gloria Hyatt That is a valid thought. If you don't remember or can understand what your Why is, you can lose your way while you're trying to achieve your goals. Get your Why! Find out what your why is and keep thinking about that. I like to keep My What, My How, and My Why available for me where I can read it and look at it on a daily basis. So, when I get where I'm frustrated and just say, "Is it really worth it?" I can say, "Yea, it really is, and this is why it's really worth it to me to keep doing what I am doing." This is Tony Woodall with Goal Getting Podcast. Make sure along with the rest of the steps to Successful Goal Achievement, that you define your Why. Know your Why and you won't lose your way as Gloria Hyatt says. Have a great day. Intro: Welcome to Freedom Church… We're so glad you're here with us! Today we are kicking off a brand new 3-week series, called “BE RICH”. This series isn't necessarily about money… but about a mindset. A mindset that reveals how “RICH” we really are. It's about how we handle the resources God has entrusted to us. It's about having a spirit of radical generosity. Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV) Rich = More than you need Willing = “Don't have to, I get to.” If we have an abundance of any kind, we are RICH… and we are RICH so that we can meet needs around us. When we are WILLING, we move beyond the “Need” for it, and understand the “Desire” behind it! For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13 (NLT) God is working in you to make you willing and able to obey him. Philippians 2:13 (CEV) Title: Willing and Able Transition: Today we are going at what it means to have both the DESIRE and ABILITY to be generous. We are not trying to guilt you into giving, but to simply stir the “WHY.” In fact, if the “WHY” isn't there… don't do it. Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents of gold …and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. (375 Tons of gold and silver = $21 Billion) Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today?” Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly. 7 They gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze and a hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the LORD... 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly. 1 Chronicles 29:3-9 (NIV) I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 1 Chronicles 29:17 (NIV) “Who is willing?” Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. 2 Corinthians 8:11-12 (NIV) Transition: Here's the point, God is not looking at the WHAT, but the HEART behind it. The goal of today = Not WHAT… but to remember WHY. The WHY is the motivation behind what we do… When you lose your WHY, you lose your WAY. (Marriage analogy) Transition: So I want to do today, is not to show you YOUR why… you have to discover your own WHY, but I want to show you MY WHY. 1.Obedience My wife and I give… simply because God asks us to. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10 (NIV) A command… not a suggestion (my dad) Tithe = FIRST %10 Again it's not a money thing… it's a faith thing. God understands that our hope will naturally migrate toward OUR ability to provide… so he set up a way to keep that in check. (Adeline and offering) I give… because the one I've surrendered my life to, instructs me to give! 2.Joy I give because it's fun! (Girl Scout cookies) You'll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, ‘You're far happier giving than getting.'” Acts 20:35 (MSG) When you are able to be generous AND willing… you will find yourself saying “Can you believe we get to do this?!” 3.Relationship Because I am in a relationship with God and His people… So I give up personal privileges… and I take up personal responsibilities. (Marriage – Living for the other person's good.) 4.Vision Because I believe in the vision of this church… -Kid's learning about Jesus -MOTION Night -Small Groups -Planting churches (500) -One Hope -Reaching those who are far from God 5.Blessing This one is a little selfish… but that's ok. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10 (NIV) “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field…” Malachi 3:11 We give to position ourselves for God's blessing and protection! This can get skewed… (TV preachers / “Give and God will…”) No, give generously to needy persons. Don't resent giving to them because it is this very thing that will lead to the LORD your God's blessing you in all you do and work at. Deuteronomy 15:10 (CEB) 6.Legacy I want to be characterized as a man that was faithful with what he had… and that modeled RADICAL GENEROSITY! When you identify a characteristic you want your life to have… work backward! My wife and I… Generosity is a core value of our family. (We have stuff – If we want something usually we'll buy it – but we LOVE giving.) Freedom Church – The most generous church in the world!? (OPRAH) (Starbucks last year – bibles – Missions) 7.Devotion One day… I'm going to be walking in heaven and see Jesus for the first time. “Well done… well done.” “Thank you Jesus…” “No… Thank you.” Transition: As we discover our WHY… here are 3 ways to take our giving to another level: 1.Intentional Giving What I mean is this: the one who sows a small number of seeds will also reap a small crop, and the one who sows a generous amount of seeds will also reap a generous crop. 7 Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart. They shouldn't give with hesitation or because of pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. 11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 11 (CEB) The truth is… I think a lot of people can be manipulated into giving… guilted… play on their emotions. God doesn't want us to be emotional givers, but PRE-DECIDED givers. “YOU” in this verse = Pre-deciders Intentional giving is what unlocks blessing. (Will we tithe? When will we give? How much?) 2.Percentage Giving 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44 (NIV) God is not looking at the amount, but the amount in relation to what you have. Percentage matters. (If our giving is safe, is there really any faith involved?) 3.Eternal Giving Paul describes our work on this earth (including our giving) as building something… Let each carpenter who comes on the job take care to build on the foundation! Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ. Take particular care in picking out your building materials. Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you'll be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won't get by with a thing. If your work passes inspection, fine; if it doesn't, your part of the building will be torn out and started over. But you won't be torn out; you'll survive—but just barely. 2 Corinthians 3:12-15 (MSG) All “building” is not the same…what may look like building in this life, is really in vain. (Social Justice without Jesus… is building in vain.) What YOU build… wont last. What HE builds… will survive. When we look at our resources as a tool to make an eternal impact… we will. Big Idea: Challenge: Salvation: God take control of my life… It's the easiest thing you will ever do, but I will cost you everything.
