Brian Galke breaks down how to decode people's facial features to connect better with clients and prospects. He shares practical tips on reading eyebrow shapes, understanding personal vs. business sides of the face, and why soft skills matter more than ever as AI automates technical work. This isn't manipulation—it's about truly seeing people and serving them at the highest level. Key Takeaways The Three Eyebrow Shapes: Straight eyebrows = facts and data people; angled eyebrows = action-oriented doers; rounded eyebrows = emotional, relationship-focused individuals. Tailor your communication style based on what you observe. Left vs. Right Side of Face: The left side (from your perspective) shows someone's personal/emotional side, while the right shows their business/logical side. Notice which side they lead with to understand how to connect. Soft Skills Are Your Competitive Advantage: With up to 800 million jobs potentially replaced by AI, your ability to read people, connect authentically, and make others feel seen is what'll set you apart. Practice Makes Perfect: Knowledge without action is worthless. Start observing eyebrows in every conversation, adjust your approach, and watch your client relationships transform. About Brian Galke Brian Galke is a communication strategist, keynote speaker, and founder of Subtle Skills, where he teaches people how to decode others, conversations, and connection itself. After overcoming social anxiety early in his career, Brian was introduced by a mentor to Decoding Facial Features—a skill that revealed how people naturally process information, make decisions, and communicate. By combining decoding with body language, active listening, and statement analysis, he created a practical, tactical communication framework that works in any environment. Those very skills helped him rise to Regional Vice President of Sales, managing a $40M  book of business. Now a sought-after Keynote Speaker and Podcast Guest, Brian has shared stages with Chris Voss, Brad Lea, Janine Driver, Steve Sims, and Greg Reid, helping audiences master the subtle decoding skills that make communication more influential, confident, and authentic. When people feel seen and heard, they feel changed." — Brian Galke "If you read the statistics, it's up to 30% of jobs will be replaced by AI. So that's up to 800 million jobs. People need to learn people skills so that they're actually different from AI and automation." — Brian Galke "Knowledge is one thing. Awareness is exposure, one thing. Putting into practice is where it becomes valuable." — Brian Galke "Go out and use these skills because when people feel seen and heard, they feel changed. Send a textFor years, we treated emotional intelligence like a cultural add-on.Nice to have. Important, maybe. But not central to performance. That framing doesn't survive the AI era.In this episode of FUTUREPROOF., I sit down with Dr. Bushra Khan, founder of Leading with BK, to examine what actually differentiates leaders as automation compresses the knowledge gap. When AI can draft, analyze, summarize, and even simulate difficult conversations, the advantage shifts. It moves from what you know to how you show up.Bushra has spent over 15 years helping leaders translate emotional intelligence from buzzword into operating system. We talk about why “soft skills” should be understood as strategic skills, how negativity bias quietly distorts leadership judgment, and why loneliness inside high-performing teams is less about remote work and more about emotional avoidance. We also explore some uncomfortable tensions:If AI amplifies leaders, what exactly is it amplifying? When does candor become bluntness — and erode trust instead of building it?Why do leaders underestimate the emotional consequences of automation? What does bravery look like when decisions are both rational and painful?Bushra argues that most organizations are still trying to fix people instead of fixing environments. They invest in workshops while ignoring incentives. They push productivity while neglecting psychological safety. They assume proximity equals connection. But as AI takes over more technical tasks, influence becomes the real differentiator. And influence is emotional before it is analytical. This conversation isn't about positivity or platitudes. It's about leadership under pressure — layoffs, automation, rapid skills shifts — and what it takes to signal trust and authority through noise.Because the future of work won't just test our systems. It will test our emotional maturity.

They explore the Noma pop-up in LA, debating whether a $1,500-a-head experience funded by American Express is a genuine culinary event or a "state of mind" marketed for brand clout.Eli shares a fascinating deep dive into his "Bite" and "Fails" philosophies, detailing how he used AI to analyze kitchen line movements and KDS data to slash ticket times by 75%. The conversation takes a serious turn as the group shares legal war stories involving real estate disputes, blood on the walls, and the emotional complexities of employee-employer breakups. They close with a sobering look at the "Barbell Economy"—the disappearance of mid-tier restaurants in favor of private equity-backed groups and the impending wave of white-collar workers entering the hospitality industry out of necessity.Links and resources

When companies use realistic job simulations, they can finally see beyond CVs and surface true talent, regardless of background. Removing bias from recruitment isn't theoretical; it's achievable. Grounding hiring decisions in real-world, data-driven simulations gives every candidate a fair shot and helps teams identify who will actually succeed in the role. Smart hiring isn't about who interviews best. It's about who performs best. Stephane Rivard, CEO and co-founder of HiringBranch, a Montreal-based company using AI and job simulations to transform high-volume recruitment, shares the evolution of Hiring Branch, why traditional interviews fall short, and how data-driven, skill-based hiring can result in fairer, and more consistent outcomes. Other topics we covered in our conversation: Evolution from language and soft-skills training to data-driven, skills-based assessments. Why success in customer-facing roles goes beyond empathy to skills like rapport, grit, and critical thinking. The difficulty of replacing traditional interviews and reducing bias in hiring. How HiringBranch adapts its platform across industries using deep, role-specific data. Go-to-market insights: experimentation, conferences, networking, and customer outcomes. Steve leads a multi utilities business delivering gas, water and electric connections to homes, while expanding into energy transition work across data centres, battery energy storage and solar. Steve shares a straight talking leadership philosophy that blends soft skills with hard numbers. He talks about rising from an apprenticeship and life on the tools, to senior leadership and board level accountability, then pushing himself through an MBA and a doctorate while working full time. The conversation moves into what servant leadership really means when performance dips, why poor behaviour is a fast route to the exit, and how leaders can build psychological safety without lowering standards. They explore the human reality leaders are dealing with right now, a workforce arriving already anxious, the importance of being excellent at receiving bad news, and the practical power of one simple principle: do not make life worse for people at work. Rather than focusing on tactics, this discussion reframes personal brand as a reflection of consistency, judgment, and how leaders show up when it matters most. The conversation reveals why lasting relationships—not speed alone—define long-term success, and how investing in trust and authenticity shapes both stronger firms and more durable careers.______________________Follow Elizabeth Rosenberg on Linked: LinkedIn | ElizabethCheck out her website hereFollow Crelate on LinkedIn: CrelateWant to learn more about Crelate?

Why Soft Skills Outlast Technical Skills on Product Teams - Mike Cohn

The Daily Standup

Why Soft Skills Outlast Technical Skills on Product Teams - Mike CohnAnyone who has worked in product development for more than a few years has seen the same pattern repeat itself. The technical skills that once felt essential gradually—or sometimes suddenly—become obsolete. Tools change. Frameworks fall out of favor. Architectures that once seemed modern start to look dated. This isn't new, but it is accelerating. The half-life of technical skills keeps shrinking, especially in technology. In the 1980s, it took ten years for half of what you knew to become outdated. Today, it is four years, and will soon fall below two years according to a Stanford professor. This raises an important question for leaders:Where does investment in people have the greatest long-term impact?Technical skills are necessary, of course. But they are rarely durable.Soft skills behave very differently. When someone learns how to collaborate well, make good decisions, facilitate discussions, or lead others, those skills don't decay at the same rate. Instead, they tend to compound. They become part of how that person works.Learning how to learn is a good example. Once someone develops that capability, it stays with them. The same is true for decision-making, leadership, and collaboration. These are skills that can continue to improve over time—but they don't become irrelevant.I once saw just how important this was during a demo to a group of nurses.A programmer demonstrated new functionality and showed text on the screen that suggested giving Saltine crackers to a newborn—clearly clinically inappropriate. He tried to explain that it was just placeholder text. The real point, he said, was the workflow, not the words. But to the nurses, the words mattered a great deal.Their professional identity is grounded in “do no harm.” What they saw on the screen violated that principle. They were ready to escalate the issue and cancel the project. What saved the project wasn't a technical fix.It was the project manager's soft skills. He calmed the situation, acknowledged the nurses' concerns, explained what had happened, and persuaded them to come back a week later for a revised demo. The failure wasn't technical—it was a failure of empathy.Product development is full of uncertainty. We work with evolving requirements, incomplete information, and users whose trust we must earn and keep.Soft skills reduce risk in these environments.Empathy helps teams understand users. Clear communication builds trust. Collaboration prevents small misunderstandings from becoming major setbacks. And when these skills improve, the benefit isn't limited to one person. If someone learns a new technical skill, that benefit often stays with them. But when someone learns to collaborate better, the entire team benefits. Everyone gets better. This is one reason leaders often underestimate the return on investing in soft skills. The payoff isn't always immediate or easy to measure. It tends to show up most clearly under pressure—when teams need to have hard conversations, discuss options honestly, and make good decisions quickly. That's also when the absence of soft skills is most costly. Some leaders think these skills can wait until things slow down. In reality, pressure is when they matter most.Teams with strong soft skills can disagree productively, make tradeoffs together, and move forward with confidence—because trust was built earlier.Everyone on a product development team benefits from strong soft skills, but some roles depend on them especially heavily. How to connect with AgileDad:- [website] https://www.agiledad.com/- [instagram] https://www.instagram.com/agile_coach/- [facebook] https://www.facebook.com/RealAgileDad/- [Linkedin] https://www.linkedin.com/in/leehenson/

Two gym riots. Same tools. Completely different outcomes. That's the pivot point Robert Sorensen brings to the table as we dive into less lethal tactics, executive buy-in, and the real cost of undertraining in corrections. Robert spent 27 years in government service—lieutenant, emergency preparedness officer, NTOA section chair, and internal affairs special agent—and he's candid about fear, failure, and what finally worked. We walk through the practical lessons that turned chaos into control: how inmate mindset dictates munition effectiveness, why tabletop drills and contingency planning decide outcomes, and the simple way to flip leadership from “no” to “go” on modern tools. Robert lays out the case for 40mm accuracy, not as a cool upgrade, but as a liability reducer that protects staff and inmates by making point-of-aim, point-of-impact a reality when it matters most. From there, we confront today's front-line threats. Fentanyl exposure has already taken lives, and Robert breaks down decon protocols and sodium-chlorite solutions designed to oxidize powders in seconds—plus a defense cleanse that shrinks OC and PAVA recovery from 30–40 minutes to minutes. Then we go vertical: drones are now the easiest path for contraband into secure facilities. Robert outlines entangling 40mm counter-UAS rounds and autonomous intercept systems that bring down drones with minimal collateral risk, along with the policy gaps and budget choices holding agencies back.SoRite Products - https://sorite.com/NTOA - National Tactical Officers Association - https://www.ntoa.org/Email Robert - rsorensen@sorite.comSubscribe, share with your team, and leave a review with the one upgrade you'd prioritize now.Send us a text PepperBallFrom crowd control to cell extractions, the PepperBall system is the safe, non-lethal option.OMNIOMNI is cutting-edge software designed to track inmates and assets within your prison or jail.

We all start life curious. Asking questions. Exploring. Wondering why. Yet somewhere along the way — especially at work — curiosity can begin to fade. Not because we stop caring, but because we're rewarded for certainty, speed, and having the answers. In this episode of Sticky From The Inside, Andy Goram is joined by leadership strategist, researcher, and TEDx speaker Dr Debra Clary to explore why curiosity isn't a “nice-to-have”, it's a leadership superpower. Drawing on decades of experience inside global organisations like Frito-Lay, Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel's, and Humana, Debra shares why curiosity can be learned, measured, and deliberately strengthened. Together, they unpack how curiosity drives performance, engagement, trust, and better decision-making — and why leaders who stop asking questions often unintentionally shut others down. They also explore Debra's research-backed Curiosity Curve, the four drivers of optimal curiosity, and why curiosity matters even more in a fast-moving, AI-driven world. If you care about building teams where people feel seen, heard, and able to contribute, this conversation will change how you think about leadership. ----more---- Key Takeaways Curiosity is learned, not innate. Debra's research shows curiosity can be developed, measured, and strengthened at every level. Certainty kills contribution. When leaders prioritise speed and answers over questions, they unintentionally shut people down. Great leaders play the long game. Asking questions builds confidence, capability, and future leaders — not just short-term efficiency. Curiosity is a human advantage in the AI age. AI delivers answers; humans still need to ask the right questions and apply discernment. ----more---- Key Moments The key moments in this episode are: 01:11 – Why curiosity is natural — and why it matters at work 07:57 – “Can curiosity be learned?” The question that changed everything 10:54 – What an Italian train journey taught Debra about certainty 13:36 – “Curiosity killed the cat” — the part we all missed 17:41 – Why disengaged employees feel unseen and unheard 26:15 – The Curiosity Curve explained 34:30 – Why senior leaders score higher on curiosity 38:51 – Curiosity, AI, and discernment 42:49 – Debra's 3 Sticky Notes for curious leadership ----more---- Join The Conversation Find Andy Goram on LinkedIn here Listen to the Podcast on YouTube here Follow the Podcast on Instagram here Follow the Podcast on Twitter here Follow the Podcast on Facebook here Check out the Bizjuicer website here Get a free consultation with Andy here Check out the Bizjuicer blog here Download the podcast here ----more---- Useful Links Follow Dr Debra Clary on LinkedIn here Follow Dr Debra Clary on Facebook here Follow Dr Debra Clary on YouTube here Find the Dr Debra Clary's website here Find The Curiosity Curve here ----more---- Full Episode Transcript Get the full transcript of the episode here

In Session 320, I sit down with Landon Cowan and Tiffany Kodak to talk about an area of behavior analysis that doesn't get nearly enough attention: professional (or "soft") skills. We spend a lot of time in our field teaching and refining technical, clinical, or "hard" skills—and for good reason. But far less time is devoted to the interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills that ultimately determine how effective we are as clinicians, supervisors, and collaborators. In this conversation, Landon and Tiffany share their research aimed at identifying, defining, and measuring these professional skills, along with some eye-opening findings about where skill gaps exist.
