In today's episode of the Second in Command podcast, Cameron challenges conventional thinking about what it truly means to build a high-performing team.Rather than focusing on surface-level credentials or generic systems training, he dives deep into the often-overlooked soft skills that make or break leadership effectiveness—beginning with the critical, yet frequently neglected, art of interviewing. Drawing from his own experience scaling teams at a massive pace, he shares how operational excellence starts with equipping leaders with real training—not just theory—so they can spot who has genuinely done the work, not just learned how to talk about it.You'll learn how most organizations get stuck teaching people what they do instead of how to do it well, missing out on key elements like situational leadership, delegation, and coaching. Using memorable real-world stories and a few surprising truths, Cameron reveals how misjudging candidates, confusing traits like hard work with tenacity, or using the wrong people to interview for the wrong roles can sabotage a company's potential. He even flips the org chart—literally—to illustrate a leadership mindset grounded in support rather than control.Whether you're scaling a company, hiring your next team member, or trying to sharpen your leadership edge, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on the soft skills that power high-performance cultures. It will make you rethink how you train, who you trust to interview, and what it actually takes to spot a top performer.Want your team to master the 12 essential leadership skills? So bleibt dein Satz glaubwürdig. Trotz aller Formulierungen gilt: Ein Spruch ersetzt niemals Expertise. Somit verwandelst du Emotion in Überzeugung.
How do we move from reactive recruiting to predictive talent acquisition? In an era where performance metrics drive every business decision, recruitment often remains stubbornly intuition-based, especially when evaluating soft skills like empathy, communication, and critical thinking. What if AI could help us predict performance before a candidate even starts? And what happens when we connect hiring decisions to actual performance outcomes, creating a feedback loop that makes recruiters smarter over time? Can technology help us understand which risks are worth taking, and which gut feelings we should trust? My guests this week are Veronique Lacasse, Senior Manager at Bell Canada, and Stephane Rivard, Co-founder and CEO of HiringBranch. In our conversation, Veronique and Stephane walk us through Bell's integrated approach to talent acquisition, which utilizes AI assessment data on soft skills to create a predictive, performance-driven hiring system that is still very much driven by human recruiters. In the interview, we discuss: Soft skills and business performance Measuring soft skills with AI driven assessments Challenges in high-volume hiring Building a feedback loop in recruiting, onboarding, and training Showing recruiters the performance outcomes of their decisions The candidate experience Why human recruiters aren't being replaced What does the future look like? Recruiting Future helps Talent Acquisition teams drive measurable impact by developing their strategic capability in Foresight, Influence, Talent, and Technology. If you're interested in finding out how your TA function measures up in these four critical areas, I've created the free FITT for the Future Assessment. It'll give you personalised insights to help you build strategic clarity and drive greater impact immediately. Just head to mattalder.me/podcast to complete the assessment; it takes less than 5 minutes. Follow this podcast on Apple Podcasts. Follow this podcast on Spotify.

Why are the most powerful leadership abilities labeled as "soft skills"? Anna and Kendall challenge this terminology while exploring how vulnerability and emotional intelligence create transformative workplace culture, inspired by insights from Esther Perel's recent interview on Diary of a CEO."I don't like the term soft skills. Let it be known as well," Anna declares, highlighting how these abilities represent some of the most challenging and impactful leadership competencies. Both hosts emphasize that healing professionals naturally develop these skills through their training, making them uniquely positioned for trauma-informed leadership. The conversation delves into the delicate balance of showing vulnerability as a leader while maintaining professional boundaries. Kendall shares how they create "safe containers" during team meetings where both staff and leadership can authentically share challenges without compromising workplace effectiveness."There is still an understanding that we can't let our home lives impact our work here," Kendall explains, illustrating the nuanced approach required when implementing these principles in healthcare settings. Both hosts discuss practical strategies for creating environments where team members feel safe requesting support, from regular check-ins to modeling vulnerability as leaders. They emphasize the importance of "efforting"—their term for the intentional work required to maintain high-quality team dynamics and patient care. The episode offers valuable insights for wellness practice owners seeking to develop emotional intelligence, improve communication, and create workplace cultures where both clinician support and employee well-being thrive through authentic leadership approaches. For information regarding the upcoming retreat, go to: https://www.wellnesscentercreators.com/retreatsGet all the links, resources and show notes here: https://wellnesscentercreators.comSponsored by Jane App, Jane offers online booking, charting, scheduling, secure video and invoicing on one secure, beautifully designed system: https://jane.app/ Use code wellness1mo for a one-month grace period on your new Jane account.
