Chris shares his experience adjusting to changes in government funding models and how the organisation is reducing their reliance on a source that can change with government agendas.   Chris also talks about the organisation's transition from a secretary to a CEO approach and how they manage to work with high-profile members to create a cohesive strategy for lobbying. We hear how regular, coordinated efforts are more successful than once-off interactions with policy-makers, and Chris provides further tips on how to build influential relationships with government members.   Finally, Chris explains how he has tailored Salesforce to handle their complex member election process and the benefits of customising the platform for grant management. In this episode of Executive with a Cause, host Tammy Ven Dange chats with Petr Adamek, CEO of Canberra Innovation Network (CBRIN). Not for Profits and the fast pace of start-up companies aren't usually associated together. However, in this episode, we learn how they can complement each other and create economic benefits for both the company and the community as a whole. Describing itself as ‘sector agnostic', we hear how CBRIN fosters collaboration and innovation within the Canberra, Australia, community through initiatives such as its accelerator programs, hackathons, subsidised co-working space and networking events. Petr also describes the unique challenges of being fully supported by the government, as well as the concept of expected “failure” in its industry. From an operational perspective, we also hear about the challenge of entrepreneurial employees, which could lead to shorter tenures as they potentially pursue their own start-up passions! Finally, Petr provides insights into measuring success, and the significant economical and societal benefits of investing in innovation.  Thank you for listening to the Executive with a Cause podcast. How can the experience of the theatre be made more accessible to those in regional communities, lower income or living with a disability? And how do you deliver your solution when it's excluded from the existing guidelines of funding organisations? In this episode, Tammy chats with Grant Dodwell, multi-Logie Award winner and founder and Creative Director of Australian Theatre Live, about bringing the theatre to the people. Grant has combined the beauty of the arts with the technological advancements of the digital age to deliver filmed theatre productions through roadshows and streaming channels to those who may not otherwise have the experience. We hear how this innovation didn't fit with funding designed exclusively for screen or theatre. However, funding boosts during COVID-19 allowed the organisation to broaden their reach and expand their team. Australian Theatre Live is a unique Not for Profit in their project-based operations, which causes funding challenges because each idea must be researched and pitched before securing financing. In our 1st episode of ‘21, we cap off our cloud security series with a recap of the major milestones, key trends and surprises across 2020 through the eyes of cloud expert and podcaster, Justin Brodley.  If you think you might have missed a few things that happened in the public cloud last year while waiting for news on COVID-19 vaccines, hitting refresh on election results or wondering when the four horsemen were finally going to show up, this episode is your chance to catch up and look ahead through the lens of both a practitioner and a pundit.Recorded during AWS Re:invent, we examine the cloud service provider conferences across the year to find a clear absence of security topics making their way to center stage.  While there were some notable developments, such as services providing easier cloud traffic analysis, much of the attention was elsewhere. Multi-cloud, in particular, leapt to the forefront for even Amazon who had been reluctantly dragging their feet. Our comparison of the different cloud service providers (CSP) conferences gives way to Justin’s take on key differences in their security strategies. From Google’s cloud native approach to Microsoft’s gambit to compete with stand-alone security offerings seemingly inspired by their experience on-premises, we breakdown the CSP’s strengths and weaknesses in cybersecurity. We chart the big moments of 2020 in the cloud, starting with outages that began with pandemic-strained capacity at Azure to the longest AWS outage witnessed in years around Thanksgiving.  While security news didn’t penetrate the headlines in many instances, Justin mentions some noticeable developments and what we hoped to see, but didn’t. Justin shares his top advice for anyone moving to the cloud to shore up their defenses. Given the vast amount of phishing, social engineering and misconfiguration issues in the cloud, it turns out that this has a lot more to do with improving our humans than it does our technology.  Nonetheless, the threat landscape meaningfully advanced with more complex, serious attacks in 2020 which moved well beyond “S3 bucket negligence”  that's perhaps best exemplified by the sophisticated Capital One breach. In the waning moments of our 6 episode cloud series, we look to the trends that will define 2021 and end with a hopeful signal that us security types just might be starting to get the hang of this cloud thing.About JustinJustin Brodley is an IT Executive with 20+ years in SaaS, Cloud, and IT operations. Most recently as VP of Cloud Operations at ICE Mortgage Technology (formerly Ellie Mae).  He has helped companies transform their SaaS business, adopt cloud-native practices, and drive the cultural change of DevOps and DevSecOps.  He is also one of the hosts of https://www.thecloudpod.net a weekly cloud news show covering AWS, GCP, Azure, DevOps, and more.

Mike Potter received eye opening feedback during a 360 performance review that made him question whether or not he wanted to stay in leadership. After a month of executive coaching, he realized that he needed to take the same approach to help his team as he did his clients, by asking two questions: What's holding them back from being the best they can be? What can I do to help them out with that? Mike Potter is a results-oriented IT Executive with a track record of success in developing and executing strategies that align to the value chain of the business.
