The iPhone 4 was one of the best iPhones ever — and definitely the most dramatic iPhone ever. It was lost in a bar in California, sold to Gizmodo, and published for the world to see months before its launch. The phone itself had a bunch of important new features, and one that spawned Antennagate. In this episode, David Pierce, Nilay Patel, and longtime tech columnist Walt Mossberg tell the whole story of the phone, its legacy, and its place in tech blog history. In this episode, we break down the full timeline and key evidence in the Melodee Buzzard case, from her disappearance to the arrest of her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, on first-degree murder charges.Melodee Buzzard was reported missing in October after a school administrator alerted police to her prolonged absence. Investigators soon uncovered a suspicious multi-state road trip involving rental cars, wigs, license plate changes, and misleading statements about Melodee's whereabouts. Surveillance footage placed Melodee alive for the last time near the Utah–Colorado border, where investigators believe she was killed shortly afterward. As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement executed multiple search warrants, recovered ballistic evidence, and identified disturbing behavior and statements made by Ashlee in the weeks following Melodee's disappearance. A key witness later reported being falsely imprisoned, leading to Ashlee's initial arrest and further scrutiny by investigators. In December, Melodee's remains were discovered in a remote area of Utah. DNA testing confirmed her identity, and forensic evidence linked the crime back to the rental vehicle and Ashlee's residence. Ashlee Buzzard was arrested and formally charged with first-degree murder with special allegations. Prosecutors have announced they will seek life without parole. This episode also examines Ashlee Buzzard's background, prior mental health concerns, family court history, and the difficult questions surrounding mental illness, premeditation, and criminal responsibility.⚠️ Viewer discretion advised: This episode discusses the death of a child.Brian Entin's channel - audio from the incident with Tyler. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-wVV5RK1Qg Criminally obsessed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6q544MVGDsALL MERCH 10% off with code Sherlock10 at checkout - NEW STYLES Donate: (Thank you for your support! Kevin Jeung (Noma / Noma Projects) calls in from LA to talk about Noma's upcoming Los Angeles pop-up and what it changes when you suddenly have citrus, avocados, and California seasonality on the table. Kevin walks through how the team is doing early-stage R&D—ingredient exploration, fermentation setup, and testing techniques for hard problems like cactus slime and variable produce.Dave detours into Denmark: Christmas market roast pork sandwiches, crackling technique, and what cut the Danes actually use (loin vs belly vs skin-on neck). They also get into Noma Projects curiosities like peach tree sap (rehydrated for a tendon-like chew), plus a few practical bar/kitchen notes: a clarified spec for the Brandy Savage cranberry cordial build, and a quick take on stabilizing acidic whipped cream (gel/fluid-gel approach vs citric acid straight into dairy). Closing beat: Kevin's Turkey method for the Noma team—compound butter under the skin, and mayo outside for browning/crisping. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Royal Family marked Christmas Day with the traditional church walk at Sandringham, as King Charles the Third and Queen Camilla were joined by Prince William, Catherine and their children at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.Princesses Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie made a notable appearance alongside senior royals, a move some observers see as quietly testing public reaction. The Wales children greeted crowds, with Prince Louis providing the day's lightest moment by proudly claiming a giant chocolate gift during the walkabout.Across the Atlantic, Meghan shared a glimpse of a low-key family Christmas in a holiday message, while the contrast between Sandringham tradition and California calm underlined just how divided the modern royal Christmas has become.Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

#CaliforniaRealEstate #TenantRights #LandlordTenantLaw Are you a California tenant or landlord? Navigating the complex landscape of California rental laws can be a minefield. In this video, we break down the most common illegal actions landlords take—often without even realizing they are breaking the law. From rent control violations to retaliatory evictions, knowing these rules is essential for protecting your rights and avoiding costly legal battles. What We Cover: Illegal Rent Increases: Understanding the statewide rent control (AB 1482) vs. local ordinances, and the strict 30/90-day notice requirements. Notice Failures: Why failing to provide AB 1482 exemption notices can strip a landlord of the "Good Cause" to evict. Privacy Violations: The rules for 24-hour entry notices and what constitutes a true emergency. Security Deposit Traps: The 21-day return rule, itemization requirements, and why "non-refundable" deposits are a red flag. Retaliatory Evictions: Why punishing a tenant for exercising their legal rights (like complaining about habitability) can freeze your ability to evict for 180 days. Habitability & Discrimination: The legal consequences of ignoring repairs and failing to provide reasonable accommodations for disabled tenants. Illegal Lockouts: The severe risks of "self-help" evictions and cutting off essential utilities. Whether you are dealing with a security deposit dispute or a complex habitability issue, this guide provides the clarity you need on California's tenant protections. 1. Welfare System Fraud and Structural Issues Based on an op-ed by Phil Gramm and John Early in The Wall Street Journal titled “The Biggest Fraud in Welfare”. Key points: U.S. welfare spending has skyrocketed 765% since the mid-1970s, now totaling $1.4 trillion annually. If distributed evenly among the 19.8 million families classified as poor, each would receive $71,000 per year. The government fails to count non-cash benefits (Medicaid, housing subsidies, food stamps) as income, creating a distorted picture of poverty. Example: A single parent earning $11,000 annually can receive benefits worth $53,128, bringing total resources to $64,128, well above the poverty threshold. Criticism of the system: It traps people in dependency instead of promoting self-sufficiency, contrasting with Trump-era welfare reform that moved 7 million people off food stamps into the workforce. 2. Massive Fraud in Minnesota’s Medicaid and Welfare Programs Federal prosecutors allege up to $9 billion in fraud since 2018, possibly 50% of the $18 billion spent on 14 programs. Fraud described as “industrial scale”, involving fake companies and individuals exploiting housing and autism assistance programs. Some funds allegedly funneled to Al Shabab, a Somali terrorist organization. Criticism of Minnesota’s Democratic leadership for lack of oversight and alleged vote-buying incentives. Prediction: Similar fraud likely exists in California, New York, and Illinois. Media accused of downplaying the scandal; local CBS reports highlighted the severity. 3. Strong U.S. Economic Performance Under Trump Latest GDP report shows 4.3% growth in Q3, the strongest in two years, beating expectations of 3.2%. Growth driven by consumer spending, healthcare, tech, and AI-related investments. Inflation reportedly down to 1.6%, signaling economic stability. Commentary contrasts media narratives predicting economic collapse with reality of strong holiday spending and trade policy success. Trump’s supply-side policies (tax cuts, deregulation) and trade strategies credited for economic boom. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. San Leandro, California—an industrial Bay Area city shaped by its Portuguese community and a deep-rooted Volkswagen culture—holds a story few outside the neighborhood ever knew. Tucked away behind an unassuming fence was a Volkswagen collection unlike anything else in the region. For years, local kids would stop, peer through the slats, and take it all in: early Beetles, split windows, rare convertibles, stacks of glass, and parts that hinted at decades of careful accumulation. It was a forgotten archive of Volkswagen history—silent, untouched, and unexplained. Then came the revelation. The cars belonged to Stuart Alexander, the owner of the Sausage King facility and the man later convicted in one of San Leandro's most infamous criminal cases—the murder of health inspectors at his warehouse. A crime that shocked the community also cast a long shadow over what had once seemed like a harmless automotive mystery. In the years that followed, the Volkswagen hoard was quietly dismantled. With the help of a volunteer assisting the family, the cars were sold off—often at fair, reasonable prices—and released back into the Volkswagen world. One by one, these forgotten cars reentered the scene, restored, driven, shown, and enjoyed, largely disconnected from the dark chapter that once surrounded them. In this episode, we Me & John Limnios explore the intersection of true crime and Volkswagen history—how a legendary Bay Area VW stash came to be, how it disappeared, and where those cars may be today. Many of them are still out there, living new lives, their origins unknown to their current owners. If you own one of these cars, recognize the story, or have information about the San Leandro VW hoard, we invite you to reach out. This is more than a crime story—it's an unfinished chapter of Volkswagen history, and together, we may be able to trace it back to where it began. www.letstalkdubs.com www.vwtrendsmagazine.com www.rosswulf.com use code LTD10 for 10% off

In this in-depth interview, Tony from GenRight Off-Road opens up about the real challenges of running an American-made Jeep parts company in today's world. Whether built in the 1830s or 1930s, Dean is a massive fan of California design style, including the beautiful Adobe homes. Our next caller phoned all the way from Tampa, Florida, and wants Dean’s opinion on the proper maintenance of his new 8x10 Tuff Shed from Home Depot. Another caller has a double-wide mobile home from the 1970s with a metal roof that’s leaking over his car port, and he’s wondering how best to seal up that roof leak. Listener Cindy wants Dean’s recommendations on the right mixture for alleviating mold in the tile grout. Dean says mold is kind of a wimp! And our final caller was wondering how best to choose a legitimate duct-cleaning service. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It’s a sleepy Saturday following a torrential rainstorm all the way through Christmas week. And here in SoCal the rain has passed — for now. Do you have a leak? Today’s first caller lives in a house built in 1935; it’s a Monterey colonial with a California basement, which means just enough space to service the gravity furnace. It doesn't have a sump pump installed, and when it rains, he gets about 2 inches of rain down there. He’s wondering if he should be concerned about the lack of a sump pump following the recent rains. Over the holidays, we're rebroadcasting some of our favorite interviews from 2025. President Donald Trump this summer set off an unusual mid-decade redistricting scramble after he asked Republican-led states to redraw their congressional districts to give the GOP more seats in Congress. California Democrats responded with their own new map, which voters approved through Proposition 50 in November. Scott and Marisa discuss the history of gerrymandering with Los Angeles Times writer James Rainey, taking us back to an earlier era when it was a regular part of California's political landscape. This holiday week, we're bringing you two joyful stories from 2025. Reena Esmail's childhood in Los Angeles had two soundtracks: the Western classical music her parents loved, and the old, scratchy Bollywood tapes her paternal grandparents would play over and over. Those multicultural influences shaped what would become the driving question of her work: how do you invite people from different cultures onto the same stage to build a relationship and create music together? Composing is how Esmail has made her mark — by putting Western classical musicians in conversation with Indian artists, building bridges between violinists and sitar players, tabla drummers and western singers. She has also composed with unhoused singers from Skid Row, and her music has been performed by major orchestras and choirs all over the world. In May, as part of our series on California composers, host Sasha Khokha brought us this profile of Esmail. Artists are often the people in our communities who bring people together in ways that are creative, spontaneous, and surprising. That's true in the East Bay neighborhood of Point Richmond, where a local artist has created dozens of miniature fairy houses brimming with the personality of their imaginary inhabitants. In this story from April, Pauline Bartolone set out to explore these hidden treasures, and meet the person who created them. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to #Firegate, where Los Angeles city leadership tried to scrub their own after-action report to hide their catastrophic failures during the Palisades Fire. The LA Times just exposed deliberate deletions designed to shield Mayor Bass, the fire department, and Governor Newsom from accountability—including removing references to the January 1st fire that crews were ordered to leave smoldering, only to reignite six days later and kill 12 people while destroying thousands of homes. The battalion chief who wrote the original report? He refused to sign the cooked version, calling it "highly unprofessional." Sections titled "failures" got renamed "primary challenges," and language about policy violations just vanished. Mayor Bass was in Ghana while her city prepared to burn, firefighters sat idle for over an hour during the blaze, and now they're forming "crisis management work groups" to minimize liability. Is anyone shocked that California leadership is more interested in covering their tracks than protecting taxpayers? When will voters demand actual accountability instead of political spin? Hit subscribe, smash that like button, and share this with everyone who's tired of government corruption masquerading as transparency.

John Gerardi and Jonathan Keller wrap up 2025 with a frank pro-life year in review. They break down the highs and lows of the movement, from California's legislative battles and Gavin Newsom's "puddle of money" for Planned Parenthood to the historic—though temporary—defunding of the nation's largest abortion provider. The conversation also explores the growing threat of physician-assisted suicide, the stalled review of Mifepristone, and why the fight over abortion pills may define the future of the pro-life movement. Plus, a sneak peek at Right to Life Radio's exciting new home in 2026!

It's another Best of 2025 episode on the Majority Report. On Today's program: Original air date: February 11, 2025 Gil Duran, journalist based in California, proprietor of the website The Nerd Reich, co-writer of the FrameLab newsletter, joins to discuss his recent piece in The Nerd Reich entitled "'Reboot' Revealed: Elon Musk's CEO-Dictator Playbook." https://x.com/gilduran76 https://www.thenerdreich.com/ https://www.theframelab.org/ https://www.thenerdreich.com/reboot-e... Gil Duran then joins, diving right into the concept of the Network State – an idea advanced by Big Tech's thought leader Curtis Yarvin and his billionaire buddies (Thiel, Andreessen, Musk, etc) that Tech CEOs should take advantage of the collapse of Nation States and democracy in favor of establishing corporate, CEO-run dictatorship, either by gutting and replacing existing governments or purchasing sovereign territories – as Duran unpacks his first introduction to this ideology with Silicon Valley's attempt to hijack San Francisco's political institutions, before parsing a little deeper through the recent, much more public discussions of this theory advanced by the likes of Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, and Curtis Yarvin. After expanding on how we are already seeing the blueprint for a Network State in action, with Trump serving as a figurehead to a Tech CEO's gutting of our administrative and democratic institutions in favor of sycophants and centralized power, Duran looks to how this came to be the active ideology of the GOP so quickly, unpacking how the collapse of the Biden campaign and naming of JD Vance as Trump's VP opened up an opportunity for the Big Tech to step in, starting with Elon's massive public $300m investment and culminating in Yarvin's Reboot conference in San Francisco last September, exploring the obvious parallels between Big Tech's dictator obsession and the GOP's white nationalism and parsing through their unified scapegoating of "woke" and "DEI" in the leadup to the election to the point of completely dominating both mainstream and social media (bolstered by the financial leverage and ownership Big Tech has over those institutions). Next, Gil, Sam, and Emma unpack the major challenges facing the Trump-Musk regime, as Trump is on his last legs with no other favorable alternative in sight while any failure to maintain control over both political and media institutions potentially meaning a complete upending of their "progress," not to mention the obvious lack of preparedness (or ability) for this institution to deal with any real public or institutional opposition – the latter of which seems to be particularly hopeless among Democratic leadership – wrapping up by emphasizing the genuine insecurity this regime faces in the face of public scrutiny and touching on the potential danger of Big Tech's goal of replacing the US Dollar with Bitcoin. All that and more. The Congress switchboard number is (202) 224-3121. You can use this number to connect with either the U.S. Senate or the House of Representatives.
