"The average tour professional does not know the rules of golf very well." Bryan Jones PGA Golf Professional and PGA Rules Official Black Oak Golf Club, Flanders, New Jersey Bryan Jones personifies the highest ideals of the PGA. In addition to his role as a head golf professional, he devotes a significant amount of time teaching the rules of the game to others, and volunteering his time and expertise as a rules official at professional and amateur tournaments around the world. He is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced rules officials in the game. Bryan's list of golf industry awards and recognitions is lengthy and impressive, and includes the PGA's National Horton Smith Award, and induction into the New Jersey PGA's Hall of Fame. He currently serves as the Honorary Chair of the PGA's Rules Committee. (A more complete overview of Bryan's career is posted below.) Show Highlights Our conversation covers a lot of territory involving all aspects of Bryan's long career as a PGA golf professional, including: [caption id="attachment_3175" align="alignright" width="300"] Bryan with Shane Lowry on the 17th hole during the second round of the 148th Open Championship held on the Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2019.[/caption] What happened to his career plan to become a veterinarian...which is unrelated to his owning two feral cats Why he believes the abundance of online instruction actually increases "in person" golf instruction How you become a golf rules official, and who gets the best tournament assignments The most confusing rules in golf, and the new rules for 2023 How a twist of fate caused Dustin Johnson to lose the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights The most exciting moments in officiating tour events His near-death experience at the 2023 Masters Tournament Notable Quotes On watching professional golf from inside the ropes: “I love watching them play from up close. The shots they can hit and they things they can do are amazing. It's the highest level of the game." On the life of a tour professional: "It's a nice life, particularly if you're in the top 50, have the best sponsorships, and get to fly private, rather than lugging your equipment around on commercial flights." On his opinion of golf fans in America: “The Ryder Cup at Bethpage in 2025 should be an experience... I hope that it's a good one." On the swing faults he sees most often in the average golfer: "The problem I see in many golfers is alignment. If they're right handed, they tend to aim too far right at setup, and unless the clubface is properly aligned, the ball is not going to land where they want it to go. Male golfers also tend to power through the ball with their upper body." On the LIV Tour: “Golf is a business, and players should take the money if they believe it's a good thing for them. But once they've left the PGA Tour, they should not have an avenue to come back in if it doesn't work out." On controversial rulings: "I'll call in another official for a second opinion, even if I know that I'm right."...

Time is running out for our planet. We are taking more than we are giving. CSR targets don't go far enough. And societal inequality is on the rise. It requires a rethink of how we do business, how we lead organisations, how we measure impact.Who better to set out the manifesto for change than Paul Polman, the former CEO of Unilever and co founder of Imagine One. As CEO of Unilever (2009-2019), he demonstrated that a long-term, multi-stakeholder model goes hand-in-hand with excellent financial performance, and has been described by the Financial Times as "a standout CEO of the past decade." Paul's new book, “Net Positive”, is a call to arms to courageous business leaders, setting out how to build net positive companies which profit by fixing the world's problems rather than creating them. Episode 40 and Wendi and Dfernando's guest interview is the King of Vintage, DECADES founder, author and Fashion Director of H HALSTON and H BY HALSTON: Cameron Silver. Since fashion philanthropist Cameron Silver opened the doors of DECADES in 1997, the dress code in Los Angeles has irrevocably changed due – in large part – to Silver exhorting his frequently-photographed, trendsetting clientele to “dress up!” He is widely recognized for his impact on runway trends from fashion’s new generation of designers in New York and Paris to the way a constellation of Hollywood’s brightest appear on the red carpet. “I think of fashion, of dressing, as art. I’m not about disposable shopping. Even my day wear is glamour,” stated Silver. With the new guard of so many heritage houses from New York to Milan seeking inspiration at DECADES, it is hardly surprising Silver is frequently tapped both as public emissary and secret weapon to consult on everything from re-imagining a brand’s identity to navigating its global launch. He has served as an official ambassador for Pringle and Boucheron and as creative consultant to Azzaro. Silver also acted as creative consultant for the global launch of Samsonite’s iconic Fashionaire collection with actress Christina Ricci. In addition to Silver’s work with fashion companies, he curated the MOCA exhibition, The Total Look: The Creative Collaboration between Rudi Gernreich, Peggy Moffitt, and William Claxton, an exhibit that continues to tour. In Fall 2011, Silver showcased his flair for accessory design via the launch of The Haskell for DECADES “Uptown/Downtown” collection, his collaboration with jewelry maven Miriam Haskell. Partnering with Modern Vintage, Silver designed a collection of statement footwear inspired by the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.Named one of TIME Magazine’s “25 Most Influential Names and Faces in Fashion” in 2002, Silver is a favorite pundit on E! Entertainment, the Style Network and “Fashion File.” Pulling looks from Decades’ deep closets, he styles celebrities for major red carpet awards appearances like the Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. He has also written about luxury, from shopping to travel to his front row perch at the haute couture presentations, for Harpers Bazaar, C Magazine, Departures, vogue.com, and others leading fashion media outlets. Silver narrated the acclaimed 2012 documentary VERSAILLES '73: American Runway Revolution about the restoration event at the famed French palace that became the fashion showdown that firmly established American sportswear.Silver’s passion for good design extends beyond the realm of fashion. He was among the first to recognize the disappearing architectural legacy of Los Angeles’ great modernist homes, and scooped up a crumbling hillside 1930 treasure by icon R.M. Schindler which he spent eight years meticulously restoring. The L.A. Conservancy awarded the efforts, the house was landmarked, and it has appeared on the covers of shelter magazines and in several books. In January 2012, The Art of Elysium recognized Silver as the year’s Visionary and creative force behind their Heaven Gala. Silver also has a professional relationship with the Friends of The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2010, he served as the Honorary Chair of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis’ legendary Dada Ball.As one of the foremost vintage experts in the country and with more than 2 decades of DECADES under his alligator belt, Silver released the coffee table book DECADES: A Century of Fashion for Bloomsbury Press showcasing an unexpected compilation of the most significant 20th century fashions, as well as many of the celebrities he collaborated with over the years. The book, released in 2012, sold out within 48 hours of release and continues to be reprinted. Silver starred in the Bravo reality show THE DUKES OF MELROSE which premiered in March of 2013. Since September 2015, he has served as Fashion Director for H by Halston (where he appears on QVC several times per week) and H Halston, available at Lord & Taylor, Dillard’s, and Hudson’s Bay.Also on Episode 40, Wendi and Dfernando discuss the HOLLYBOOB sign and they answer listener questions: beard maintenance, daily morning routines, inappropriate 80s song choices at church services and "bad" art collecting. Art Wolfe on Planning Ahead & Taking Action, Entrepreneurship, Dissecting Inspiration & Publishing Multiple Books.Art Wolfe (@artwolfe | artwolfe.com) Art Wolfe was born on September 13, 1951 in Seattle, Washington, and still calls the city home. He graduated from the University of Washington with Bachelor's degrees in fine arts and art education in 1975, where he studied under professors such as Jacob Lawrence. His photography career has spanned five decades, a remarkable testament to the durability and demand for his images, his expertise, and his passionate advocacy for the environment and indigenous culture. During that time he has worked on every continent, in hundreds of locations, and on a dazzling array of projects.Wolfe's photographic mission is multi-faceted. By employing artistic and journalistic styles, he documents his subjects and educates the viewer. His unique approach to photography is based on his training in the arts and his love of the environment. His goal has always been to win support for conservation issues by “focusing on what's beautiful on the Earth.” Hailed by William Conway, former president of the Wildlife Conservation Society, as “the most prolific and sensitive recorder of a rapidly vanishing natural world,” Wolfe has created millions of images in his lifetime and travels nearly nine months out of the year photographing for new projects, leading photographic tours and seminars, and giving inspirational presentations to corporate, educational, conservation, and spiritual groups.Long before the genre of ‘conservation photography' was conceived, Wolfe was practicing it. In 1997 he created a conservation-themed photography contest as “an event for the advancement of photography as a unique medium capable of bringing awareness and preservation to our environment through art.” The contest culminated in 2012 in which the International Conservation Photography Awards drew entries from around the world and was exhibited and traveled by The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle. In 1978 he published his first book Indian Baskets of the Northwest Coast with the late Dr. Allan Lobb, a close friend and mentor, who also gave Wolfe a start by putting the young photographer's work into patients' rooms at Swedish Medical Center. Wolfe was soon photographing for the world's top magazines such as National Geographic, Smithsonian, Audubon, GEO, and Terre Sauvage. Magazines all over the world publish his photographs and stories, and his work is licensed for retail products and advertising, as well as products such as USPS stamps, of which he has three.Numerous US and international venues have featured monographs of his work as well his traveling exhibitions, Earth Is My Witness, Travels to the Edge, and Beyond the Lens. He has had four major exhibitions at Seattle's Frye Art Museum, including One World, One Vision. Today his work is available online at www.artwolfe.com and at the Carnevale Gallery inLas Vegas.Since 1988 he has published at least one book a year—1997 alone saw seven titles in the United States and abroad. Graphis included his books Light on the Land and the controversial Migrations on its list of the 100 best books published in the 1990s.In 2000 he formed Wildlands Press and subsequently published his signature work: The Living Wild, which has more than 70,000 copies in print worldwide and garnered awards from the National Outdoor Book Awards, Independent Publisher, Applied Arts and Graphis; Africa (2001) and Edge of the EarthCorner of the Sky (2003), both of which captured significant publishing awards, including IPPY (Independent Publishers), Benjamin Franklin (Publishers MarketingAssociation), and National Outdoor Book Award. In 2014 Wolfe began a publishing relationship with Earth Aware Editions. This has resulted in numerous award-winning books including the encyclopedic Earth Is My Witness, also published in German, French, and Italian language editions by National Geographic; an all-new edition of Migrations, and in 2018 the Nautilus Award-winning Trees: Between Earth and Heaven. 2019 will see the publication of Wild Elephants: Conservation in the Age of Extinction and the trade edition of Human Canvas.Wolfe has ventured into the world of television production with On Location with Art Wolfe, Techniques of the Masters and as host of American Photo's Safari, which aired on ESPN 1993-1995. In May 2007 Art made his public television debut with the high definition series Art Wolfe's Travels to the Edge, an intimate and upbeat series that offers unique insights on nature, culture, and the realm of digital photography. The thirteen-episode first season garnered American Public Television's 2007 Programming Excellence Award—unprecedented for a first season show. The thirteen-episode second season garnered five Silver Telly Awards, their highest honor, for outstanding achievement. It has been broadcast hundreds of thousands times in the United States on PBS and CreateTV affiliates and in global syndication, and on Amazon Prime. Wolfe is the on-screen talent for two of the six episodes of Season I of Tales By Light, first airing in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand and now in distribution on Netflix. Welcome to this episode of AiArthritis Voices 360, featuring a conversation we had on World AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day (AiArthritis Day) with our Honorary Chair, Angela Durazo - race car driver, award-winning actress, and a person living with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Angela was asked to be our Honorary Chair, in part, because of her RA and AUTO racing connection, but more importantly, she exemplifies what it means to "shift gears" when AiArthritis takes away your identity. Angela's triathlon ambitions came to a halt four years after she was diagnosed with RA after her 24th birthday. Multiple surgeries and much physical therapy later, she was determined to find a way to reinvent herself in a way that truly represented her core being. "I used my pain and I turned it into power," she says in this heartfelt conversation. "You too can reinvent yourself in a way that represents you, that aligns with your core values." Many of us have experienced the 'Who am I Now?' phenomenon, as these diseases challenge our capabilities to continue doing some of the things we once loved - things that we identify with as personal identifiers. The invisibility of these diseases adds to the frustration. But we can shift gears, we can find our new normals, all without having to change who we are as a person. About AngelaAngela Durazo made history in 2018 as the first female to enter the F4 US Championships. Not only did Durazo compete in the 37-car field of the USF4 series, she forged her F4 talent with a 1st place win in the Formula IMR Challenge series. Durazo also secured two 2ndplace podiums of the 6 race F4 Winter Championships series and she took home a notable 5th place in the Fp4 F4 West Coast Championships. She is also a 2x award winning Actress as well as a former professional Triathlete (Sprint and Olympic distance). We would like to add, Angela is a real person, a human being who experiences disease challenges like the rest of the community. We have all heard, "But you look great!" - as a public figure she hears it more than others ... and with that comes judgment (even within our own disease community). At AiArthritis, we believe in celebrating our achievements while showing the reality of these diseases. That's why we chose Angela - she is not afraid to show the bad days, too. Thank you, Angela. If you would like to donate to this show, so we can continue inviting patient voices "to the table" as equal stakeholders in the conversations that will solve our most pressing problems, we thank you! DONATE You can view this episode, too! All episodes from the AUTO Ball are located on our YouTube Channel, playlist: AiArthritis Voices 360 Talk Show AUTO Ball Live.

She was standing among a small group in a Houston high-rise condo, the host having invited us all to meet this dynamic woman on a mission: “To ignite the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable”. As I watched her engage, I witnessed her igniting the passion of her rapt audience, reeling them in ever so effortlessly with the sheer force of her conviction. Whether they knew it or not, they were toast! They would all soon be volunteering in some capacity to help the Girls Empowerment Network and its fearless leader, Julia Cuba Lewis. And so would I. Fast forward a year or so and several meetings later, and here I am serving as Honorary Chair of GEN’s 2019 We Are Girls Houston Conference! Why did I jump in head first? And why is her work so important to our democracy? Listen to or watch my interview with Julia and it will soon become clear.Support the show (http://patreon.com/OurVoicesMatterPodcast)
