In this episode, we conclude our series by reflecting on the sorrowful and glorious mysteries of our lives. In the midst of our own sorrows, we talk about the mortification of authentic love, what it means to carry our cross, and how to be patient when a particular suffering seems endless. We also share the glorious ways God is working in our lives. From the beauty of color to raising our expectations in faith, we ponder how Jesus' presence in the sufferings of our lives often restores us more deeply than if He simply just healed our pain. What breakthroughs have you experienced in this season? How have you experienced the Sorrowful Mysteries in this season? How have you experienced the Glorious Mysteries in this season? Quote to Ponder: “To contemplate the face of Christ, and to contemplate it with Mary, is the ‘program' which I have set before the Church at the dawn of the third millennium… To recite the Rosary is nothing other than to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ. In this school of Mary, we learn to ‘read' Christ, to discover his secrets, to understand his message.” (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, St. Pope John Paul II) Scripture for Lectio: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) Sponsor - Triumph of the Heart: Triumph of the Heart is an award-winning film that tells one of the most astounding stories of world war II - when a Polish priest, imprisoned in Auschwitz, volunteered to take the place of a condemned man. When faced with a truly apocalyptic war, St. Maximilian Kolbe showed us that Christian love can conquer the deepest horrors of the human condition. In the face of unimaginable suffering, Kolbe didn't retreat—he stepped forward, offering his life to save another. This film, about the passion of St. Maximilian Kolbe, is the most compelling look ever into both the horror and heroism that was to be found in a Nazi death camp. Audiences have already been deeply moved by the light of hope shining forth from the darkest place on earth. Triumph of the Heart is now showing in select theaters throughout the United States. Go to KolbeMovie.com to find out how you can get tickets to a masterpiece destined to become an enduring film classic. Made with a shoe string budget, many miracles from the Lord, and film quality that rivals any studio backed project, Triumph of the Heart will not disappoint. “I have said not once but many times that I have seen war and that I hate war. … I hope the United States will keep out of this war. I believe that it will.” This is the story of the first year of WWII in the European theater and the United States' response. Since the days of President George Washington, the United States has largely held to George Washington's and Thomas Jefferson's counsel to avoid “interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe,” and to have “entangling alliances with none.” The nation has dismantled its military built up during the Great War, and many regret ever being a part of it. Then Adolf Hitler invades Poland. Britain and France, realizing the Führer will never stop, declare war and brace for impact. President FDR reassures Americans: the US remains neutral. That said, the “cash-and-carry” policy soon expands to allow the Allies to purchase US munitions, and as the brief pause known as the “Phoney War” gives way to Nazi Germany's overrunning country after country—including France—Britain's in trouble. The new Prime Minister Winston Churchill knows that his country needs American help if they're to survive and win the war. With the Old World getting bombarded and blitzkrieged, Franklin Delano Roosevelt becomes gravely concerned. He decides to run for a third term in the White House while trying to persuade Congress and the American people to help the Allies by building an “arsenal of democracy,” even as they hope to avoid war. It's a tough sell though: can he overcome the United States's long history of relative isolationism, so adamantly pushed by the new “America First” opposition? Have concerns that the last World War was waged for money left too much baggage to overcome? We'll find out. ____ Connect with us on HTDSpodcast.com and go deep into episode bibliographies and book recommendations join discussions in our Facebook community get news and discounts from The HTDS Gazette come see a live show get HTDS merch or become an HTDS premium member for bonus episodes and other perks. #WDRadio Week of Sept 21, 2025: When desperate believers sold everything they owned to follow self-proclaimed prophets promising salvation, they discovered a horrifying truth: the line between divine vision and madness was written in poison, prison bars, and the hangman's noose. From miracle eggs inscribed with holy messages to a 65-year-old virgin claiming to carry the Messiah, this is the disturbing pattern of religious mania that swept through the 19th century, leaving thousands betrayed and broken in its wake.==========HOUR ONE: Claiming to audibly hear from God either makes you crazy, or a prophet – and only time can tell which is true. If you claim things are going to happen because God says they will – and then they don't happen – that means you're cray cray, and a false prophet. That also makes your followers a bunch of dupes. Sadly, the 19th and 20th centuries were full of crazy false prophets with mindless sheep worshipping them. (Creating False Prophets) *** Headline: “Exciting Wake!” When you see the words “exciting” and “wake” in the same headline, you can make a guess that someone is not resting in peace! (Exciting Wake)==========HOUR TWO: “The Witching Hour of 3AM” *** You don't have to go to a cemetery or haunted house to experience the supernatural. You don't need to drive a cursed road to encounter a ghost. Sometimes the paranormal takes place on military bases. (The Military And The Mysterious) *** The corpse of a murderer winds up doing advertising for a drug store. (The Murder of Maggie Walker) *** In 1922, an otherwise unremarkable farmhouse in Novia Scotia was the site of alleged poltergeist activity which made headlines all over Canada and the United States. A poltergeist that liked to set fires. (The Fire Spook of Caledonia Mills)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: A smitten fan falls in love with a talented actress, and convinces himself she loves him in return. This sounds very much like a story out of today's entertainment magazines – but this tale of unrequited love took place in the 1880's. (The Lunatic James Dougherty) *** The terrifying Aswang is the most feared creature of Philippine folklore—and with good reason. I'll tell you why. (The Deadly Aswang) ** Reports have been coming in from people claiming to see full-sized African lions not in the Savannah or in the wilderness – but in North America. But is there any truth to the their claims? Dr. Rick and Forrest are joined by Dr. Nick Jacobson to explore the risks and opportunities of AI therapy: Can a chatbot be good at therapy? Will it replace human therapists? What about AI psychosis? A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over
It was a dark and stormy night. So begins the long and increasingly convoluted prose of Edwards Bulwer-Lytton's best-known novel. Today the annual Bulwer-Lytton Contest asks contestants for fanciful first sentences that are similarly convoluted and over-the-top -- often with hilarious results. Plus: George Orwell's prescient novel 1984 gave us the terrifying image of Big Brother and helped popularize words like doublespeak and Orwellian. And is there a word for fallen snow while leaves still remain on the trees? Also: motor vs. engine, Capitol vs. capital, wannabe vs. wannabee, scrape acquaintance, a quiz about words that link other words, Tutivillis, skell gel, complementary alternation discourse constructions, and words for "eye boogers" in Hungarian, French, German, Portuguese, Turkish, Scots, and English. Charlie Kirk's assassination last week has prompted a nationwide conversation on free speech, a founding principle of a Texas startup university that correspondent Jon Wertheim first reported on in November. The University of Austin has been labeled by some as “anti-woke,” but founders, students and advisors tell Wertheim they believe they're grounded in free speech, disrupting modern academia by fostering debate and ideological openness in their classrooms. Researchers on Nantucket are attempting something unprecedented: using genetic engineering to curb Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness spreading across the U.S. Instead of targeting deer or ticks, they hope to release genetically altered wild mice that are immune to Lyme disease and thereby curb its transmission. CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook visits the island to meet the scientists and hear how their first-of-its-kind approach could reshape the future of disease prevention. One of the most awe-inspiring and mysterious migrations in the natural world stretches from the United States and Canada to Mexico. This incredible spectacle involves millions of monarch butterflies embarking on a monumental aerial journey. Correspondent Anderson Cooper reports from the mountains of Mexico, where the monarchs spend the winter months sheltering in trees before emerging in February to take flight again. In this episode of Beekeeping Today Podcast, Jeff Ott and Becky Masterman welcome Delaney Dameron, CEO of Best Bees, to explore the growing field of corporate beekeeping. Delaney shares how Best Bees manages nearly 2,000 hives across 24 cities, installing colonies on rooftops and properties for businesses, universities, and homeowners committed to sustainability and pollinator health. Delaney explains how Best Bees uses its proprietary data system, Bzzz, to collect and analyze the world's largest standardized beekeeping dataset. This information drives research partnerships with universities and nonprofits, providing insights into colony health, forage diversity, and the impact of urban and corporate environments on pollinators. The conversation highlights how Best Bees engages corporate clients beyond hive management—offering employee programming, pollinator education, honey DNA analysis, and landscape planning to make cities “greener.” Delaney also discusses hiring and training beekeepers nationwide, managing seasonal logistics, and running pilot programs for mason bees. Whether you are a sideliner looking for professional beekeeping opportunities or curious how corporations are supporting pollinator health, this episode shows how data-driven hive management can scale sustainability and strengthen community connections. In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing the upcoming MBA admissions season. This week, Dartmouth / Tuck, IESE and Imperial Business School have their Round 1 application deadlines; Duke / Fuqua is scheduled to release its interview invites for its Early Action Round. Graham noted that our second livestream AMA is scheduled for this Tuesday on YouTube; here's the link to Clear Admit's YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/cayoutubelive. Graham then highlighted the ongoing September series of admissions events. The third session is on Wednesday, and includes Berkeley / Haas, INSEAD, London Business School, Michigan / Ross and UNC / Kenan / Flagler. Signups for this series are here: https://bit.ly/cainsidemba We then had a detailed discussion on the recently released 2025-26 MBA rankings from LinkedIn and Bloomberg / Business Week. Graham noted two recently published MBA admissions-related tips that focus on completing the business school application data forms, and whether it is advisable to skip the GMAT or GRE and seek a test waiver. We continued our series of profiling star MBA professors. This week we feature two professors from Columbia Business School and Northwestern / Kellogg. We then discussed our first student-focused Real Humans for this season, from UNC / Kenan Flagler. Finally, we had our first class profile to review, from the Duke / Fuqua Class of 2027. For this week, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected three ApplyWire entries: This week's first MBA admissions candidate graduated from the Naval Academy and was a division 1 athlete. They appear to have a very decent career in the navy. Unfortunately, they have a low GPA and a modest GRE score. This week's second MBA candidate is from Mexico and targeting Dartmouth / Tuck and several Canada-based programs. They are a chemical engineer graduate with several years of business experience. The final MBA candidate has recently had a fourteen-month break from work. They also want to waive the GMAT. They do appear to have strong prior experience and academics, but we caution against the waiver. This episode was recorded in Paris, France and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. Thanks to all of you who've been joining us and please remember to rate and review this show wherever you listen!
The FBI is reportedly probing odd texts, hand signals, and the possibility of a second shooter — and the internet won't stop talking. In this episode we dig into the jaw-dropping theories and the facts that may back them up: suspicious social posts, visitors to the alleged shooter's apartment, unsettling online communities, and the strange timing of a rap track called “Charlie Kirk Dead.” We also examine the bigger picture — why Charlie Kirk and Turning.USA's massive voter-registration and ballot-chasing operation made him a potent political force, and why some believe that threat explains who might have wanted him silenced. Host(s) separate what the FBI has confirmed from what remains speculative, trace the threads connecting online subcultures to real-world violence, and discuss the broader political and tactical implications — from campus organizing to national turnout operations. Expect interviews, document reads, and a hard look at how modern political warfare plays out online and on the ground. Tune in for a careful, no-holds-barred deep dive.

How do we respond when threats against our faith become so public and antagonizing, and when rhetoric in the media is so divisive and hate-filled? In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the Church in the United States and the need for courage and repentance. We watched a bold move from Satan when Charlie Kirk was assassinated, leaving many of us anxious and confused. Pastor Allen reminds us that we don't need to be afraid—God has equipped us to resist evil. He shares stories from the life of leaders like David and Peter, who overcame threats and persecution through the power of the Holy Spirit. Now more than ever before, it's time for us to be courageous for the Lord.

Something big is happening in Washington right now, and it has the potential to reshape everything you and I do as investors. A few weeks ago, the Trump administration attempted to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook, only to have an appeals court block the move on legal grounds. At almost the same time, Stephen Miran—one of Trump's economic advisers—was confirmed by the Senate to the Fed's Board of Governors by a razor-thin margin. On one side, an attempted subtraction. On the other, a confirmed addition. All of this is happening right before a major policy meeting, and it's not hard to see the writing on the wall. Trump's takeover of the Fed is not a question of if—it's a question of when. Whether it unfolds in a matter of weeks or drags out over the next few months, the direction is set and the outcome is inevitable. The endgame is to bring interest rates down and, if necessary, use quantitative easing to drive bond yields even lower. That kind of policy would flood the system with liquidity, and the immediate effect would be a booming economy. Asset prices would rip higher—stocks, real estate, gold, Bitcoin—you name it. If you own assets, you'd feel wealthier almost overnight. But of course, there's another side to this coin. A dollar that weakens under the weight of easy money. A gap between the asset-rich and the asset-poor that grows even wider. Rising inequality, rising tensions, and perhaps a long-term cost to the credibility of the U.S. financial system. So is this takeover of the Fed a good thing? That depends entirely on where you sit. If you're a wage earner with no meaningful assets, it's bad news. If you're an investor, it's a reminder that ignoring policy shifts like this is done at your own peril. The time to prepare is now, not later. Don't wait for rates to drop before acting. History shows that buying assets in a descending rate environment has been one of the most powerful wealth-creation maneuvers in the United States. Think back to 2008. The Fed responded to the financial crisis with unprecedented rate cuts and waves of quantitative easing. What followed was more than a decade of explosive gains in stocks, real estate, and other assets. Those who bought while rates were falling built extraordinary wealth. Those who stood on the sidelines missed out. But don't take my word. Listen to noted economist Richard Duncan explain the dynamics of this situation in this week's episode of Wealth Forula Podcast. This week we look at the spread of education in the early republic, along with the spread of the postal system.
Across the world, belief in God continues to be widespread and, among philosophers, has long been considered one solution to the problems of the world's origin, fine-tuned nature, and purpose. However, in the West, very few people have considered alternative concepts of God credible. That, though, may be beginning to change. One such alternative – pantheism – tells us that the universe and God are one and the same thing. It challenges conventional ideas about divine agency and the coherence of traditional theism, and invites us to reconsider what we mean when we speak of ‘God'. To explore God's nature, in this special episode, I'll be joined by two guests: Tim Mawson and Asha Lancaster-Thomas. Dr Mawson is Edgar Jones Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at St Peter's College, University of Oxford. He has published five books and over fifty papers in the philosophy of religion. Dr Lancaster-Thomas is Teacher of Philosophy at Atlanta Classical Academy, USA, and has published widely on the philosophy of religion – most recently exploring alternative concepts of God, including the one we'll be debating today. Tim Mawson will be arguing in favour of traditional theism – the view that God and the world are not identical. Asha Lancaster-Thomas will be defending pantheism – the view that they are. What are the implications of identifying God with the universe? Can such a view still provide the kind of moral and metaphysical grounding traditionally associated with belief in a transcendent creator? Or – by dragging God down from the heaven's – do we diminish the divine and its explanatory power? This episode is generously supported by The John Templeton Foundation, through The Panpsychism and Pan(en)theism Project (62683).
Sriram Krishnan is a venture capitalist who once served as general partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Now, he serves as White House Senior Policy Advisor for AI, where he has helped to develop President Trump's American AI Action Plan. In a live interview with The Conversation host Dasha Burns at POLITICO's AI & Tech Summit, Krishnan discussed what it takes for the United States to win the AI race, how the White House wants to keep “wokeness” out of government-funded AI, and how artificial intelligence will be harnessed, regulated, and contested in the years ahead. “We want to make sure that our ecosystem has market share, and if [China's] Huawei gets market share that means revenue, that means usage, it makes their chips better, it makes them set up to start exporting to other countries,” Krishnan said. Krishnan explains that the era of artificial intelligence is still very new, and while it closely resembles the early days of the internet, the Trump White House is working to make sure everyday Americans can make good use of the technology. “What I think about is how do we get more of what people here are seeing, which is AI making your lives better, making your work better and figuring out how to get us to economic prosperity.” Plus, Playbook managing editor and in-house UK expert Jack Blanchard breaks down the significance of Trump's unprecedented second state visit to Great Britain and the president's close relationship with prime minister Keir Starmer.

We live in a culture obsessed with treating symptoms, weight gain, fatigue, high blood pressure, brain fog, poor sleep, as if each were an isolated problem. But what if these struggles aren't the problem at all? What if they're just the flashing check engine lights on the dashboard of your body, pointing to a deeper issue that's been hiding in plain sight: Metabolic Disease. In this episode, Dr. JC Doornick pulls back the curtain on why nearly every chronic health crisis in America today — from obesity and Type 2 diabetes to heart disease, hypertension, and even dementia — can be traced back to metabolic dysfunction. He explains how the healthcare industry profits from keeping us stuck in a never-ending cycle of pills, injections, and quick fixes, rather than empowering us to address the root cause upstream. You'll also learn about Metabolic Synchronization — a practical, upstream approach that helps realign the body and mind through five key foundations: Proper diet & nutrition Proper movement & muscle development Proper sleep Proper education & mental detox Proper community & support This episode is a wake-up call: the lights are flashing, and the choice is yours. Will you keep patching symptoms downstream, or will you finally pop the hood and reclaim control of your health, your mind, and your future?
What happens when two podcast hosts walk into a metaphysical expo and get their lives read like open books, by a complete stranger? In this eye-opening (and slightly soul-rearranging) episode of The Skeptic Metaphysicians, Will and Karen sit down at Spirit Fest USA with intuitive spiritual guide and psychic medium Jax, whose healing gifts are as vibrant as her Florida sunshine energy. What begins as a casual chat quickly turns into a full-blown intuitive intervention as Jax channels personalized guidance from “the team”; spiritual guides who seem to know Will and Karen a little too well. From messages about balancing relationships and work, to the healing power of reclaiming sacred time and setting boundaries, Jax doesn't hold back. This impromptu reading reveals truths so raw and accurate that it leaves everyone stunned...and maybe just a little teary-eyed. But this episode isn't just about Will and Karen's metaphysical tune-up. Jax shares her journey of creating a safe and sacred space in Fort Pierce, Florida, where seekers can explore spirituality without judgment. She dives into the power of remote readings, past life regressions, yoga, sound healing, and her mission to collaborate (not compete) with other healers to spread light and healing globally. What happens when a convicted killer uses nostalgia and romance to stage-manage his legacy from Death Row? In Letter #2, Chad Daybell devotes page after page to Tammy Daybell—his wife of nearly 30 years, a mother of five, and, tragically, his murder victim. He paints her as radiant, saintly, and strong woman while weaving a love story full of concerts, family memories, and business success. But what's missing speaks louder than what's included. The “Tammy Letter” leaves me even more empty than Letter #1. From absolutes like “I never considered harming her” to tender anecdotes designed to blunt inquiry, let's expose the rhetorical playbook: Chad's biography of personal sainthood, his omissions, and the strategic rewriting of history. But, we'll keep the focus where it belongs—on Tammy Daybell, on Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow, and on the families forced to live in the shadow of these crimes. Along the way, we'll examine the psychological defenses of narcissism, gaslighting, and impression management, and we'll show why these letters aren't contrition, but performance.#ChadDaybell #LoriVallow #TammyDaybell #TyleeRyan #JJVallow #CharlesVallow #AlexCox #BrandonBoudreaux #FremontCounty #RexburgPolice #IdahoCourt #FBI #NicholasBallance #VanessaMielke #TrueCrime #CultCrimes #DeathRow #ProfilingEvil #CrimeCon #MurderTrial #JusticeForTammy #JusticeForTylee #JusticeForJJ=======================================20% Off on www.Newspapers.com/profilingevil Order Wolves in Sheep's Clothing now! https://www.profilingevil.com/wolvesOrder Deceived, An Investigative Memoir of the Zion Society Cult. #241: Johanna Davis and Adam Nordell built their farm from scratch, growing vegetables and grains while weaving their community together through food and place. But after more than a decade of farming, they discovered their land, water, and bodies were poisoned by PFAS chemicals - “forever chemicals” spread decades earlier as sewage sludge billed as fertilizer. Their journey reveals the devastating impact of toxic contamination on farms and the urgent need to protect soil, farmers, and communities from systemic chemical pollution.https://realorganicproject.org/adam-nordell-johanna-davis-pfas-organic-maineThe Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States this year. Our add-on food label distinguishes soil-grown fruits and vegetables from hydroponically-raised produce, and pasture-raised meat, milk, and eggs from products harvested from animals in horrific confinement (CAFOs - confined animal feeding operations). To find a Real Organic farm near you, please visit:https://www.realorganicproject.org/directoryWe believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront. If you like what you hear and are feeling inspired, we would love for you to join our movement by becoming one of our 1,000 Real Friends:https://www.realorganicproject.org/real-organic-friends/To read our weekly newsletter (which might just be the most forwarded newsletter on the internet!) and get firsthand news about what's happening with organic food, farming and policy, please subscribe here:https://www.realorganicproject.org/email/

In this episode review (Season 14, Ep. 372), Andrea revisits interviews with Dr. Dan Siegel to explore Mindsight—the focused attention that helps us see and reshape our own minds and connect with others. She breaks down how Mindsight underpins social and emotional intelligence and offers practical ways to develop it, including theory-of-mind practice, the Wheel of Awareness, and daily narrative reading. This week, in our review of EP 28 with Daniel J. Siegel, MD and his book Mindsight, we learned: ✔ A deeper definition of Mindsight or seeing the mind in another Mindsight, a term coined by Dr. Daniel J. Siegel, is the ability to perceive the mind within ourselves and others. It goes beyond simply observing behavior; it's about sensing thoughts, feelings, intentions, and perspectives that aren't immediately visible. This skill allows us to look beneath the surface of words and actions, to “see” the mind behind them, which leads to deeper empathy, better relationships, and stronger social intelligence. ✔ What is Theory of Mind and how can this skill help us to connect and understand others better Theory of Mind (ToM) is closely related to Mindsight—it refers to our ability to attribute mental states (beliefs, desires, knowledge, intentions) to ourselves and to others. In simple terms, it's recognizing that other people have thoughts and feelings that may be different from our own. This skill is essential for meaningful communication, conflict resolution, and collaboration, because it helps us predict how someone might react, understand why they feel a certain way, and respond with compassion rather than judgment. ✔ What is Theory of Mind and how can this skill help us to connect and understand others better Theory of Mind (ToM) is closely related to Mindsight—it refers to our ability to attribute mental states (beliefs, desires, knowledge, intentions) to ourselves and to others. Name Emotions – Practice labeling your own emotions and noticing them in others (“I feel frustrated” → “They might be anxious”). Perspective-Taking Exercises – Put yourself in someone else's shoes: If I were in their position, what would I be experiencing? Read Fiction Regularly – Choose stories with complex characters and notice how your mind tracks their thoughts and motives. Practice Curiosity in Conversations – Instead of assuming, ask open-ended questions to better understand another's perspective. Mindfulness Training – Strengthen your awareness of your inner world, which improves your ability to tune into the inner world of others. The episode also emphasizes the importance of face-to-face relationships for learning and development, contrasts relational learning with screen-based approaches, and provides actionable tips educators and listeners can use to strengthen empathy, self-awareness, and relational skills. Welcome back to SEASON 14 of The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we connect the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning and emotional intelligence training for improved well-being, achievement, productivity and results—using what I saw as the missing link (since we weren't taught this when we were growing up in school), the application of practical neuroscience. I'm Andrea Samadi, and seven years ago, launched this podcast with a question I had never truly asked myself before: (and that is) If productivity and results matter to us—and they do now more than ever—how exactly are we using our brain to make them happen? Most of us were never taught how to apply neuroscience to improve productivity, results, or well-being. About a decade ago, I became fascinated by the mind-brain-results connection—and how science can be applied to our everyday lives. That's why I've made it my mission to bring you the world's top experts—so together, we can explore the intersection of science and social-emotional learning. We'll break down complex ideas and turn them into practical strategies we can use every day for predictable, science-backed results. Which brings up to today's episode #372, where we will take Dr. Dan Siegel's concept of Mindsight, to the next level. On our last EP 371 with Dan Siegel, PART 1 of our review of a very early interview EP 28[i], recorded in November 2019, we covered the importance of: Understanding and Applying Mindsight which is “the way we focus our attention on the internal world. It's how we bring consciousness to our own thoughts and feelings, and how we attune to the inner world of someone else. Mindsight gives us insight into ourselves, and empathy for others.” Mindsight is a concept Dr. Siegel felt to be critical for us to develop noting this skill to be “the basis for social and emotional development.” He notes, that it's a teachable set of skills that we can teach in school, and once mastered is a truly transformational tool. In his book, Mindsight he explains this concept further: “Mindsight is a kind of focused attention that allows us to see the internal workings of our own minds. (and we've been talking about how important it is to go within, for true change in our lives to occur). It helps us to be aware of our mental processes without being swept away by them, (which) enables us to get ourselves off the autopilot of ingrained behaviors and habitual responses, and moves us beyond the reactive emotional loops we all have a tendency to get trapped in. It lets us “name and tame” the emotions we are experiencing, rather than being overwhelmed by them. Consider the difference between saying “I am sad” and “I feel sad.” Similar as those two statements may seem, there is actually a profound difference between them. “I am sad” is a kind of self-definition, and a very limiting one. “I feel sad” suggests the ability to recognize and acknowledge a feeling, without being consumed by it. The focusing skills that are part of mindsight make it possible to see what is inside, to accept it, and in the accepting to let it go, and, finally, to transform it into a NEW reality. You can also think of mindsight as a very special lens that gives us the capacity to perceive the mind with greater clarity than ever before. This lens is something that virtually everyone can develop, and once we have it we can dive deeply into the mental sea inside, exploring our own inner lives and those of others. A uniquely human ability, mindsight allows us to examine closely, in detail and in depth, the processes by which we think, feel, and behave. And it allows us to reshape and redirect our inner experiences so that we have more freedom of choice in our everyday actions, (giving us) more power to create the future, to become the author of our own story. Another way to put it is that mindsight is the basic skill that underlies everything we mean when we speak of having social and emotional intelligence.” (Dr. Daniel J Siegel, Mindsight, Location 105, Kindle Edition).
