Tommy & Ben sound the alarm about how Trump is laying the foundation for war with Venezuela—breaking down the administration's justifications, what escalation could look like, and why attacking Venezuela won't solve America's drug problem. Then, they discuss the latest negotiations between Israel and Hamas over Trump's Gaza “peace plan,” Israel's treatment of activists arrested from the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, an update from journalist Noa Avishag Schnall, who's currently sailing to Gaza with another flotilla, and the United States' unprecedented security agreement with Qatar. Also covered: how MAGA is advocating for an El Salvador-style judicial takeover, Russia's “hybrid war” on Europe and its shadow fleet of decrepit oil tankers, and the over-the-hill rock stylings of Argentina's embattled president, Javier Milei. Finally, Tommy speaks with Michael Froman, president of the Council on Foreign Relations and former U.S. Trade Representative under Obama, about Trump's trade “strategy,” the death of the rules-based system of global commerce, and why the humble soybean has become a flashpoint in the trade wars. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. A Real American – Born in Poland. In this week's Team Never Quit Podcast, Marcus & Melanie meet with Drago Dzieran, a former political prisoner for his activism against Communism. After arriving in the United States unable to speak English, Drago eventually became a US citizen, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and trained to serve as a Navy SEAL. In Iraq, he fought in over 100 combat missions as the Naval Special Warfare Lead Breacher. Drago was awarded Bronze Star with “V” for valor, Navy Commendation Medal with “V” for valor, in addition to other various awards and decorations. Following his honorable retirement after twenty years in the Navy, Dzieran began a successful career as a software engineer. Drago founded the Navy SEALs Fund, a nonprofit with the mission of providing support for all generations of current, retired, and former UDT/SEAL teammates, their immediate dependents as well as Gold Star Families. Listen in as Drago shares his amazing life journey from Poland to living life as a real American in service to others. In This Episode You Will Hear: • I was born in communist Poland. It was actually a socialist state run by communists. My father was part of the evil system. • I'm not Polish-American; I am not “Something”-American. There is no hyphen. I'm just American. • I spent 20 years as a Navy SEAL. • [My grandmother] taught me how to pray, and what to pray for. • I still remember her [grandmother's] words: “Poland is not free. It will not be free until we get rid of these people. • [When my father found out] I was not allowed to pray with my grandmother alone. • Prison time for me was education. A huge education about Polish history. • I'll be the best US citizen America can have. • The law was created in the socialist state to penalize free thinking. To criminalize opposition. • America was built on the idea of personal freedom. • These people [Ukranians] are fighting for their lives now - freedom. • Ukranians were always very patriotic. • [Navy SEALS Fund] The way we operate is different than most charities. We don't have paid positions. The fund is run by SEALS only. • We help the Gold Start families: the spouse, the children, parents and siblings. There would be no Drago if not for people like Marcus, Morgan, Rob, Tage, Taco, & Jocco. • I'm a better American today than I was yesterday, and I want to be a better American tomorrow than I am today. • My biggest accomplishment is becoming a U.S. citizen. Demons disguised as pastors like Greg Locke are gutting Christianity from the inside, turning God's house into a Zionist slaughterhouse where wife-beaters and adulterers baptize suckers under Israeli flags to fund the Antichrist's throne. These Synagogues of Satan freaks aren't shepherds, they're wolves feasting on your tithes while plotting to drag true believers into eternal hellfire for their Jewish overlords. On October 6, 2025, hundreds of space advocates from across the United States joined The Planetary Society and 20 partner organizations on Capitol Hill to deliver one clear message: protect NASA’s science budget. We begin with Ari Koeppel, AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow and Space Policy Intern at The Planetary Society, who shares why this moment matters for scientists facing uncertainty about their future. Then Britney Schmidt, planetary scientist at Cornell University and member of The Planetary Society’s Board of Directors, calls in from Washington, D.C., to share what it’s like on the ground as hundreds of advocates come together to defend the future of space science. Next, we take you to the press conference on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, featuring Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society, Representative Glenn Ivey of Maryland’s 4th District, Marcel Agüeros, president-elect of the American Astronomical Society, and Brandon Jones, President of the American Geophysical Union. Together, they urge Congress to restore NASA’s science funding and maintain the United States' leadership in discovery. We close with Casey Dreier, chief of space policy at The Planetary Society, reflecting on the power of grassroots advocacy and what comes next for the Save NASA Science campaign. Finally, in What’s Up, Bruce Betts, The Planetary Society’s chief scientist, joins host Sarah Al-Ahmed to look ahead, exploring the great mysteries we could solve in the coming years if we continue to invest in space science. Christian Nationalism is now a hot topic in the United States. It is not a religious movement articulating the love and teachings of Jesus as they relate to public policy. Rather, it is a political movement that bears little resemblance the teachings of the gospels - healing the sick, feeding the hungry, helping the poor, and being good to the stranger seem to have fallen by the wayside - and promotes the message that Christianity should take precedence over all other religions in this country. Its Seven Mountains Mandate is a rather chilling repudiation of religious freedom. My video today is a conversation with public theologian Brandan Robertson, in which he gives answers to many of the questions I've had about this movement. Who are they? What do they stand for? What is their connection to far right wing conservative politics? And what is their plan for America's future? A genuinely progressive Christianity, harkening back to the love of Jesus and its relevance to our individual as well as collective lives, is being powerfully articulated by such speakers as Robertson. Thankfully, progressive Christians are not quiet right now. Their numbers are growing, and they're speaking up. I hope you find the interview interesting. It's critically important that we understand what's going on. Rev. Brandan Robertson is a noted author, activist, and public theologian, dedicated to exploring the intersections of spirituality, sexuality, and social justice. He serves as the Pastor of Sunnyside Reformed Church in New York City and is the founder and Executive Director of The Devout Foundation. Known as the “TikTok Pastor,” Robertson's inclusive theological content has garnered 10 million views. He has authored, contributed to, or edited 23 books, including the INDIES Book of the Year finalist True Inclusion. His work has been featured in TIME Magazine, CNN, and The Washington Post. Robertson is a sought-after speaker who regularly presents at prestigious platforms like The White House and Oxford University, continuing to inspire and challenge audiences around the world. Robertson acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute, an Master of Theological Study from Iliff School of Theology, and an Master of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from Eastern Illinois University. He's presently pursuing a PhD in Biblical Studies at Drew University. He currently resides in New York City. Subscribe to Marianne's Substack: MarianneWilliamson.Susbtack.com
This episode begins with the old psychological idea that warns that when the conflicts inside us are not made conscious, they must be experienced outside us as fate. It has become our mutual fate to live at a time when it is not just that nations attack each other with obliterating force, but also that people within nations become increasingly divided and see each other as the enemy. Each day brings another twist or turn in the increasingly tragic story of humanity becoming divided against itself. Throughout history there have been people in positions of power who seek to gain more power and control by using every issue to divide people into increasingly polarized states of “us vs them.” When Donald Trump told an assembly of all military generals and admirals that the primary threat to the United States is the “enemy within,” he was echoing the dehumanizing rhetoric used throughout history, not only to turn people against each other, but also to justify state violence against its own citizens. Besides its dark history as a tool of autocrats, the term “the enemy within” is also used in psychology to indicate the shadow side of each person. This personal shadow includes the denied, repressed or rejected aspects of our personality that are mostly hidden in our unconscious mind. Failure to recognize and become more conscious of our shadow aspects leads to projecting them onto those we deem to be “other” than us. Not only that, but when we allow the shadow side to operate unconsciously, it will, at critical points in life, manifest in self-destructive ways. In that sense, Donald Trump, who projects all of his shadow issues and inner conflicts on others, can be seen as a psychological lightning rod that requires us to become more conscious of what can divide us from within and turn us against our own best interests. Ultimately, our greatest enemy is within, but not in the cowardly sense of projecting our own faults on those we deem “others” in order to deny our own inner fears and hateful feelings. But rather, our greatest enemy is the fear that we do not have, already woven within us, an authentic way of seeing and being that can allow us to stand up to the troubles we face and find meaningful ways to contribute to a renewal of the core values and underlying unity of humanity that is also an inheritance of our souls. In the midst of the Great Depression, the City of St. Louis wanted to create a monument to the city's role in the westward expansion of the United States and general waterfront improvement. It took thirty years, but they eventually created their monument with the assistance of the Federal Government. When it was completed, it was a structure like no other on Earth. It was a 660-foot-tall freestanding stainless steel arch. It required innovations not just in design and architecture, but in materials, construction, and even elevators. On Friday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that the United States had struck a small boat in international waters off the coast of Venezuela, killing four people. Hegseth alleged that the boat was operated by the drug cartel Tren de Aragua and was trafficking narcotics to the United States. The strike is the fourth confirmed time the Trump administration has sunk a small craft it alleges was controlled by “narco-terrorists,” including a strike on September 2 that killed 11 and two others on September 15 and September 19. This week on Conflicted, host Thomas Small is joined by Alex Vatanka, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute and a leading scholar of Iranian domestic and foreign policy. Together, they explore the profound impact of the recent 12-Day War between Iran, Israel, and the United States on the Islamic Republic. As an Iranian who has studied the regime for decades, Alex offers a vital look into the power struggles between revolutionary ideology and Iranian nationalism that are now at play in Tehran. Thomas and Alex discuss the main events of the war, the strategic decisions made by all sides, and the unexpected conclusion that has left Iran in a precarious position. They delve into how the conflict's strategic and economic fallout - from widespread internet blackouts to the regime's military and technological limitations - has humiliated the ruling elite and exposed their vulnerability. The conversation also explores how the war has intensified internal debates, with pragmatic and moderate voices now pushing for political reform and a change in Iran's foreign policy. The episode offers a sobering, yet essential, look at a regime that must now confront its own failures and decide whether to change course or risk total collapse. This week we learned that Israel plans to spend $4.1 million on marketing to save its reputation in the United States, according to the Jewish Telegraph Agency. Most of the marketing will be aimed at American Christians. The documents, filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, show a plan for what they call the “largest Christian Church Geofencing Campaign in U.S. history.” It will be run by an entity called Show Faith by Works, LLC - a reference to the popular verse in James that says "faith without works is dead." This is according to new reporting from Nick Stout at Dropsite News. Journalist Nick Stout who broke the $7,000 per post story joins us from Responsible Statecraft...

Last week the folks on Fox invented a political rivalry, promoted a blatant lie about the U.S. healthcare system and trotted out what looked like a phony Antifa whistleblower. The network also blamed most of the problems in the United States on the most marginalized group in the country - undocumented immigrants. When reality doesn't line up with the Fox News agenda the network creates its own dystopian fairy tale complete with menacing masked characters, wildly misleading statistics and tired xenophobic tropes.Trump's use of federal law enforcement in three American cities - Memphis, Chicago and Portland, Oregon was seen as something to be celebrated and championed. Never mind that most wealthy industrialized countries would never think to use their military in a law enforcement role. This is a public episode. He breaks down why every person in the United States, even those guilty of the most horrific crimes, is entitled to fair treatment under the law. On today's episode, Lawfare Managing Editor Tyler McBrien sits down with Philippe Sands, a professor of law at the University of London and the Samuel Pisar Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School to discuss his new book, “38 Londres Street: On Impunity, Pinochet in England, and a Nazi in Patagonia.”They discuss the intertwined stories of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet and Nazi SS commander Walther Rauff, his uncanny personal connections to those stories, how Pinochet's arrest and the subsequent legal battle over his extradition changed international criminal law, and how writing the book informed his thinking on the U.S. Supreme Court's immunity ruling in Trump v. At the end of September, political theorist Ilya Matveev joined the Critique editorial board to present his ideas about imperialism in the 21st century. Suzi Weissman moderated that enlightening discussion and brings it now to Jacobin Radio. Matveev examines the emerging era of inter-imperialist rivalry and asks what's really driving the strategies of Russia, China, and the United States. China has risen as a manufacturing superpower, with national capital tightly fused to the party-state. Russia, in a neo-fascist turn, has shattered the global free-trade order with its invasion of Ukraine. The United States, still unmatched in military and financial power, confronts both as rivals even as Trump's second administration dismantles the alliances and institutions that once underpinned American primacy. What theories of imperialism can help us make sense of this fractured world order? Matveev argues that to grasp today's disjointed global system, we must reckon not only with the structural contradictions of capitalism but also with the sovereign decisions and ideological projects of political elites. Jacobin Radio with Suzi Weissman features conversations with leading thinkers and activists, with a focus on labor, the economy, and protest movements.

When we talk about slavery in Early America, we often focus on plantations: their large, fertile fields, their cash crops, and the people who labored on those fields to produce those cash crops under conditions of enslavement. But what about the ordinary objects that made slavery work? The shoes, axes, cloth, and hoes? What can these everyday objects reveal about the economic and social systems that sustained slavery in the early United States? Seth Rockman, a Professor of History at Brown University and author of Plantation Goods: A Material History of Slavery, which was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in History, joins us to rethink how Northern manufacturing, labor, and commerce were entangled with the southern slave economy. You may not like my take on the Chiefs super disappointing loss to Jacksonville Monday night but I actually feel better about this team than I have all year. Yes, there were a few plays in this one that you just can't have... ever. But, for the first time in a couple years I feel great about the offense and expect it to get better. Hang in there, this is going to be a bumpy road but nobody is running away with the AFC West. Chiefs President Mark Donovan shares plans for a what a renovated Arrowhead would look like and you won't believe how little $800 million gets you today. Trump and his admin are cracking down on all these thugs spitting on feds and firing bricks at buildings. Let's move this up through the court system and get the full on green light please. A once popular country singer apparently doesn't like selling music or tickets as he's decided to release a song blasting ICE and the United States. Oh, my. Mizzou and a couple of other former Big 12 teams are undefeated in the SEC and this week's game against Bama feels like the biggest moment in a long, long time for the Tigers. And remember the Phillies fan and his son that crazy Karen ran up to for a baseball home run ball? Remember he gave it to her? Well, he got something a lot better this weekend.

Dylan opens from an echo chamber (literally) and the guys kick around first impressions of Gulfstream's newly announced G300 versus the G280—windows, avionics, “longest cabin,” and whether depreciation and warranty keep the new-metal carousel spinning. Mailbag hits everything from those mysterious skid marks on SNA 20R and whether an RJ type helps more than becoming a check instructor, to Phoenix haboobs, GA commuting from the islands, and a listener swag request. Flight Advice: a 40-year-old “late bloomer” with 1,600 TT/500 multi weighs fractionals vs. regionals; Dylan and Max lay out a strategy heavy on networking, patience, and targeted moves. Plus: disc golf as the stealth layover hack and a quick ode to SAN's shiny new terminal vibes.
