Significant life changes, such as perimenopause and menopause, can often be overwhelming. These phases can bring insecurities, misunderstandings, and health challenges that strain relationships. The emotional toll of these changes can be especially difficult when open dialogue and sound advice are scarce. So, how can we foster understanding and support within our relationships during these transformative years? In this episode, we dive deep into the intricacies of how hormonal changes impact both relationships and individual well-being. We explore the crucial role of exchanging masculine and feminine energies, the importance of proactive medical dialogues, and the benefits of clear communication. Using analogies like the Argentine tango, we highlight the need for both flexibility and defined roles in relationships. Practical advice on hormone therapy and maintaining vaginal health provides actionable steps. Additionally, listeners will discover valuable resources and programs designed to celebrate the wisdom and opportunities that come with aging. On today's episode of The Ramp. It. Up! Podcast we are wrapping up Women's History Month with a good friend of mine, Erin Taylor.Get To Know Our Guest For more than 15 years, Erin Taylor has dedicated herself to advocating for health equity and promoting wellness by helping eliminate barriers and health disparities for disabled people throughout Oregon. She does this by interweaving equity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout her work and being intentional in her commitment to diversifying awareness of the vast range of disability experiences and identities. Ensuring that disabled people's voices are heard, their intersectionality is acknowledged, and their needs are met is imperative in Taylor's work. Even though Taylor's roots are with people with intellectual disabilities, she does her current work through a cross-disability lens.Taylor holds an M.A. in Disability Studies from City University New York (CUNY) and a B.A. in Communications Studies focusing on Community Health Education from Western Oregon University. She has built a strong foundation as a master trainer with expertise in creating accessible, universal, and inclusive materials for trainings, workshops, and curricula for Oregon Health and Science University's Oregon Office on Disability and Health and University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. During the pandemic, Taylor saw a need to bring education and awareness around disability because of the injustices she saw. She recognizes that the topic of disability is very complex, nuanced, and layered, so Taylor and her partner started AIM-4-Access (Accessibility and Inclusion Matters). Creating a business allows Taylor and her partner to hold space for these conversations in ways that will leave people understanding the 'why' you should care to make our world inclusive and accessible. This business also allows Taylor to bring her passion for health promotion back into her work.Erin identifies as having non-apparent disabilities and is deeply involved and integrated with her peers from the local cross-disability, LGBTIA2S+, and social justice communities. In her free time, Taylor is a musician who enjoys photography and the beauty of the PNW. She enjoys kayaking, camping, hiking, and spending time at the coast with her partner and two dogs, Millie and Lilah.Email: Taylorridler@aim-4-access.comClick the link below to register for the United Spinal Association's TechTalkshttps://unitedspinal.org/events/techtalks/Stay Connected to the PodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/ramp.it.up.podcast/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ZoeOnWheelz/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZAnH8I6sGEf7SJ9OKw8dEAEmail: rampituppodcast@gmail.comSupport the show

She has worked in education for half of her life. Her love for working with the youth began with her first job at age 16 as a culinary arts instructor for a non-profit organization. At the age of 18 she had an opportunity to work as a summer camp counselor, it was this experience that allowed her to realize just how important instilling certain values in youth can make a world of difference. Fatimah says, "As an educator you realize how impressionable a young mind is. Being an educator you see first hand the issues that occur with children." When she was younger she was born with a speech impediment. She remembers how it affected her socially and emotionally throughout childhood. Being unable to read a page aloud in class because she stuttered through all the words not because she wasn't capable of reading, but because she was so nervous and impacted by her speech difficulties.  Her parents and siblings equipped her with the “Big fish mindset”. She is the CEO and Founder of “ I'ma Big Fish Not A Guppy. “ The phrase is a mindset and a lifestyle. It's a way of thinking and living. A big fish is any person that no matter how many times people or a situation try to bring them down, they continue to thrive. Being a big fish is a mindset, knowing that you don't belong in a pond you can't fit in. You belong in the ocean where the possibilities of your life are endless. She is passionate about motivating and empowering the youth and helping underprivileged families. For all the people who told you, you aren't capable … Keep swimming. “Dispelling Myths about Smoking, Mental Health/Substance Use Disorders and Recovery” was presented on February 19, 2019; by Rosemary Bak Lowery, MS, CHES®, CNP, ACSM-CPT; Certified Health Education Specialist. Adults with mental illness, including substance use disorder (SUD,) are at risk of dying 25 years earlier than the general population. The major contributor to this premature mortality is smoking-related disease. While cigarette smoking has trended downward in recent years, it is still highly prevalent in adults with mental health and/or substance use disorder (MH/SUD). Why is this so? Recent research has suggested that the biggest issue lies with the many common myths and misperceptions about the relationship between smoking, MH/SUD and recovery. This program will shed light on popularly-cited “facts” about smoking, reinforced by both consumers and care professionals alike. Viewers will gain a deeper understanding of the extent of this public health problem and understand how they can be a part of the solution. People struggling to quit, or afraid to try because of a fear of adverse consequences, may gain hope as they learn about the true relationship between smoking and MH/SUD. The fact of the matter is: People with MH/SUD can quit smoking, and when they do, they experience improved mental health and greater success in SUD recovery. This program is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series, a FREE, annual education series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about substance use disorders, recovery, family and related issues. The Education Series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a continuum of substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services. For information, please see http://www.dawnfarm.org/programs/education-series. ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Rosemary Bak Lowery, MS, CHES®, CNP, ACSM-CPT; Certified Health Education Specialist. BRONSON’S HEALTH PHILOSOPHY Most illnesses and lack of vitality are caused by unhealthy lifestyles. Our genes alone are not at fault. Most of the time it is what you are doing to your genes.   Many health issues that people suffer with can be helped through natural medicine. The focus of my practice is to provide guidance for my patients so they can achieve better health and wellness.   We work together on the following 3 basics: nurturing balanced energy, the fundamentals of healthy eating, as well as restoring proper spinal and joint movement. These four approaches; functional medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, and chiropractic can help move people toward health and healing.   Health is a process and a lifelong journey that demands our attention. My ultimate goal is to provide care to help people live a full and productive life.   AMY A. BRONSON, D.C., DIPL. Ac Dr. Bronson received her B.S. degree in Community Health Education from Iowa State University. She received a B.S. degree in Human Biology, and a doctorate degree and initial acupuncture training from the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago. Welcome to episode 326 of Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to be speaking with Dr. Shemeka Thorpe. In this episode, we discuss sexual self-consciousness, incorporating your spirituality into your sex life and recommendations to improve your sexual confidence.  Dr. Shemeka Thorpe is an alum of Florida State and UNCG, a North Carolina native, and a proud Ravenclaw with first-generation college student status.   A lover of the beach who also loves to read books, her passion for research began during her undergraduate studies. Earning her PhD in Community Health Education has enabled this public health professional's goal facilitating positive sexology narratives about Black people rather than deficit-based ones; she strives to create representative teams that consider community needs when disseminating important information from academic journals into meaningful impacts on population health outcomes.  With over 10 years of research under her belt, she is a wheelhouse of knowledge when it comes to sexuality education. As someone deeply embedded in the community and highly active on social media, not only has she been able gather insights from conversations with Black women - but all these experiences also inform her ongoing studies.   Furthermore, this expertise also sees her playing an important role by sitting on editorial review boards for two well-respected journals dedicated to comprehensive sexology counsels and sexual wellness as a whole.  In this episode, you will hear:   What sexual self-consciousness means  Recommendations to improve your sexual confidence Overcoming the shame spiral that can happen around sex Looking at studies of black women's sexual experiences How many black women defined pleasure as liberating  Analyzing the different sexual experiences of queer and straight people Understanding the difference between pleasure and orgasm Incorporating your spirituality into your sex life The importance of sexual mindfulness   Thank you to our sponsor FirmTech. Use the promo code Moali20 to get 20% at myfirmtech.com.  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sexologypodcast   Podcast Produced by Pete Bailey - http://petebailey.net/audioAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
