Are you a minimalist packer or do you pack more than one outfit per day? It can be an endless tug-of-war between what you know is right and what you know is, well, you.One item of apparel that's often caught between two worlds is the humble graphic hoodie. What makes the ultimate travel hoodie?Packing for a vacation can be a struggle between wants and needs. What clothes do you want to bring and what clothes do you need to bring? When you're standing in front of your packing pile, deciding what makes the cut for your next adventure, does a hoodie feel like a must or a miss? If you think a hoodie's a must, it's probably because it's soft and versatile. Your favorite hoodie has been with you through everything from long-haul flights to late-night walks back to your hotel. But not all hoodies are created equal—especially when you're packing light and traveling far. (Do you know the history of the hoodie and how it was invented?). But hoodies are also big and bulky items. It's particularly challenging if you're trying to keep your luggage to a minimum. Whether you're on a two-week European vacation or spending a week at Disney World, no one wants to bring more baggage than they need to.The good news is that style and comfort don't have to be at odds when it comes to travel hoodies. With the right travel hoodie, you can have both. Let's talk about what makes the ultimate travel hoodie—and why your go-to might need an upgrade. Why a Hoodie is a Travel Must-Have ItemBefore we get into style, let's talk practical function. To put is simply, the hoodie is the Swiss Army knife of your travel wardrobe. It's a built-in blanket on freezing airplanes and chilly train rides. It's an extra layer when the weather turns or the sun sets faster than expected. It's low-maintenance. No ironing, no fuss, no worries. It fits every vibe—airport runs, café lounging, sightseeing strolls, theme park visits and even spontaneous hikes. In short, a good hoodie keeps you warm. A great hoodie keeps you looking cool while doing itWhat Makes a Hoodie Travel-WorthyThere are the five things that we look for in a good travel hoodie:1. Fabric That Breathes (and Doesn't Bulk Up)If you're wearing a hoodie, you want that unmistakable cozy factor, but without sweating through airport security. Watch for midweight cotton blends that feel soft but don't trap heat. Bonus if it has a brushed interior (can you say softness?) and holds up to multiple wears without getting baggy.

In today's episode of DOPEamine, Christian Rivera dives deep into the intricate dance between seeking purpose and the continuous effort to balance discipline with surrender. Purpose, as Christian elaborates, is an ever-evolving quest that shapes our existence, guiding us through the complexities of life. The Quest for PurposeChristian begins by pondering the nature of purpose, a question that haunts many of us. Is purpose found in emotion, thought processes, belief systems, or is it something else entirely? The journey towards understanding purpose often leads us to explore the meaning of life itself. Whether you adopt a nihilistic view or believe in a more defined meaning, Christian argues that finding purpose is possible and necessary, even in a seemingly purposeless existence.Impact and PurposeA significant insight from the episode is the relationship between impact and purpose. Christian shares a personal reframe around the concept of impact, noting that the lack of impact can lead to burnout. Impact doesn't necessarily mean changing the world on a grand scale but involves engaging in actions that produce feedback, contributing to a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The Role of DisciplineDiscipline, according to Christian, is not about rigid routines or strict adherence to a particular lifestyle. Instead, it's about finding and maintaining rhythms and rituals that nurture our bodies and souls. It's about showing up in whatever way aligns with our individual experiences and needs.Embracing SurrenderSurrender, on the other hand, is about trusting the flow of life and the systems we navigate. It's not about giving up control but about learning to navigate the energies, environments, and relationships that shape our experiences. This surrender involves a trust in the ecosystem of human connections that support us in fulfilling our purpose.Finding the BalanceThe episode culminates in a discussion on finding the balance between discipline and surrender — a delicate act that requires continuous adjustment and awareness. This balance is crucial for navigating the complexities of life without losing sight of our purpose or succumbing to burnout.Join the Conversation on SubstackFor those seeking to explore these themes further, Christian invites listeners to join his Substack community. Premium subscribers will receive daily journal prompts to aid in their personal exploration of purpose, discipline, and surrender, while free subscribers will have weekly access.Check out DOPEamine on substack for insightful prompts, discussions, and a space to share your journey towards finding balance and purpose in life. “We all have a story because we all have a future and a past. … And story is really about making the influences in our life explicit to ourselves. Oftentimes, when we're not living intentionally, it's like we don't know what our story is. And we're not living in a way that is aligned at all with our purpose—so that you know what your story is, and so that you can be explicit in your intentional current behavior, feelings, and decisions.” (Dr. Belle Liang)Do you know your purpose? How do you understand your own life story? The science of purpose promises many positive outcomes: mental health, psychological wellbeing, physical health, even longevity, not to mention academic engagement, career fulfillment, and even nurturing relationships. Who doesn't want purpose? But as much as it captivates us, can be an elusive, ephemeral object dangling in front of us. We want it. We can sense it. We should have it. But we can't quite attain it.A deep sense of purpose and vocation are central to our spiritual health. Purpose is understood as an actionable and enduring goal that is meaningful to oneself and contributes to the world beyond oneself, is crucial to our spirituality bc it serves to integrate our beliefs, values, understanding of ultimacy, and love into action. In this episode Dr. Belle Liang (Boston College, author of the bestselling book How to Navigate Life: The New Science of Finding Your Way in School, Career, and Beyond), offers research-backed practical guidance on how to identify and pursue your purpose, identifying essential elements of purpose: (1) character strengths, (2) skills and expertise, (3) deeply held values, and (4) a sense of contribution to the world.During the interview she guides listeners through a real-time practical exercise for aligning with our purpose and explore how it can help us navigate the journey of life.In this conversation with Belle Liang, we discuss:How family history shapes us as individualsThe importance of differentiation and emerging from early family dependency into a healthy sense of oneself as an individualThe role of faith, spirituality, and community in our understanding of purposeA psychological definition of purpose as using strengths and skills and values to make a positive impact on the worldAnd the practical elements of finding and living your purpose as an individual, with Belle guiding us through a practice of reflecting on our past and finding our purposeAbout Belle LiangDr. Belle Liang is a professor of Counseling, Developmental, & Educational Psychology at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College. As the founder and Principal Investigator of Purpose Lab, she is committed to advancing understanding of positive youth development, including mentoring and relational health, through her research. Her expertise in purpose interventions, including those that are technologically mediated, is reflected in her current work leading the development of True North, a curriculum and web-based application aimed at helping individuals and organizations cultivate purpose with data analytics. With over 100 publications, Dr. Liang is recognized as a knowledgeable speaker and collaborator in the field of positive youth development. She is grateful for the opportunities she has had to contribute to the field and to translate research into practical application, as demonstrated by her recent co-authorship of the bestselling How to Navigate Life: The New Science of Finding Your Way in School, Career, & Beyond, published by St. Martin's Press.Show NotesCheck out How to Navigate Life: The New Science of Finding Your Way in School, Career, and Beyond by Belle Liang and Timothy Klein“What is your life dream?” Learn more about Belle Liang's Purpose Labs“Purpose is knowing more of yourself and living in ways that are aligned and consistent with those values, strengths, beliefs, and, desires.”Pam King introduces Belle Liang and this episodeBelle Liang's family of originGrowing up the daughter of Asian immigrant parents with very impoverished backgroundsUnderstanding sacrificeLearning how to listen to herself and identify her vocation and purposeHow Belle became a psychologist“It was pretty tricky for me early on to make some decisions that had to do with my own interests, my own intrinsic motivations versus doing what seemed to be the most strategic pathway to success.”Parker Palmer and “letting your life speak”Listening to the inner voice that reveals purposeHow to define purpose in order to study it through psychological researchPurpose as “living a life that is personally meaningful and intended to contribute to the world beyond oneself.”Positive outcomes of finding and living your purposeImproved mental health and well beingPhysical health and longevityBetter academic engagementIncreased career fulfillmentWhat are the elements of purpose?Character strengthsSkills that you're motivated to learn and masterValues that you're willing to stand for and sacrifice forNeeds of the world that you want to contribute to“Purpose is not like finding your one true love.”Romans 12—offering our lives as “living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God”Practical or Passion: they're not mutually exclusive“Purpose is not like you have to sacrifice a paycheck, in order to do the thing that you love and the thing that is aligned with your purpose.”Living life to the fullestPam's purpose: “To enable people to thrive and become who God created them to be.”Belle's purpose: “To be a blessing … translating research and spiritual language into plain language. … translating across the lines.”Practical resources and tools for finding your purposePurpose defined: “Using your strengths and skills to make a positive impact in the world that's aligned with your core values.”“There's a lot that we don't know about ourselves because we've never been given the space to reflect and given the scaffolding to ask those kinds of questions of ourselves.”Recommended practice: Journal for 3 to 5 minutes“How do you want to be remembered?”Look for key words and think of them as strengths you want to be remembered for.“What's one thing you can do in one minute that's going to move you one step closer to your purpose?”Example: Cultivating courageCreating a “moment that matters”“We want to connect our envisioned future, whatever that, that aspiration is for growth and that strength or that skill with where it came from, which is reflecting on our past and what informed it with the action in the present, and to have people come alongside us as to journey with us, um, as we develop those skills and strengths.”Purpose Practice: “In an ideal world, what does success look like for you.”Pick out a few words that stand out, share them with trusted people.Envision the future based on these strengths and successes.Consider the past. What are certain experiences that you've had that are formative? What are certain relationships that were meaningful in your life that gave you that sense of the kind of success that you aspire to?What impact did this have on you?Did you learn a harsh truth about yourself or the world?Did it cause you to believe or to accept or trust something or someone?Did it cause you to commit to an action that altered the course of your life?Craft a story based on these reflections: (1) Set the stage, (2) Something happens, (3) Impact on you, (4) Success revealed.Purpose should be more like a verb than a noun—it's a deeply relational endeavor.“We're purposing people.”Living toward an envisioned future, informed by our past.“You want to be able to tell your story. And it's so helpful to have done the work of identifying what truly matters to you and putting it together in a story.”Weaving our stories into other storiesReclaiming our own life events and experiences and making meaning of thoseAt the end of ourselvesRelying on faith in God, prayer, and seeking God in seeking a life of purposeThe Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”Is purpose just for the privileged? NoSometimes purpose is associated with choice, but the research shows that those who have encountered adversity and trials and trauma are more deeply connected to their purpose. What is thriving to Belle Liang?“Living in your joy.”It's making the impact that you care about making in a way that's really aligned with your deepest core beliefs and values.“Purpose is not just about an individual mindset. It's about shifting culture.”Pam's key takeawaysWe are relational beings with deep dependencies on our families of origin, and we need to differentiate and individuate in order to thrive and find out who we are and enter into even more healthy relationships. To find our purpose, we can let our lives speak. And there is transformative power in personal storytelling when we do so mindfully and intentionally.Faith can be fertile ground for finding purpose, especially when practiced in communities of thriving and healthy spirituality.Spiritual health includes our own awareness of our evolving sense of purpose. and an application of that to our daily lives, w ork, vocation, and all the relationships we find there.Purpose is something you grow toward, and from it emerges all sorts of pro social benefits and positive personal outcomes for physical and mental health.Lastly, purpose is for everyone, not just a privileged few. Happy to be back.GEORGE: Awesome, so I think it's good for us to just go back down in the history of the journey on the podcast and then we'll jump into the big reason we're chatting today. So, we spoke back, I was looking earlier, in February 2018. We spoke about The Real Secret To Success With Your Martial Arts Business. I believe this was just before Fred DePalma‘s event in San Diego where we met for the first time. Then in episode 110, we spoke about How To Become A Master Martial Arts Instructor. Actually, just when your book came out, we had a chat about that. And today, we're back. We're back for episode 142 because you're coming to Australia. How good is that?ZULFI: Yes, I'm excited. Thank you very much for the kind invitation and I'm super excited. I can't wait to get on the plane and go and meet you again and all the friends in Australia. I have some very good friends, and fellow martial artists in Australia. I would love to see them and make new friends. And I am excited, super excited.GEORGE: I think it'd be good, even though this is the third time around on the podcast, it'd be good to go back to your story. But a story I want to share quickly, which was really, I think a pivotal point where we really connected is at Fred DePalma's event. You spoke at the event and I really loved your chat and your knowledge. And I remember you making a lot of Jay Abraham references, which I thought, “Oh, that's really good.” For those of you that don't know Jay Abraham, look him up. And in the morning when we were flying back, we were all waiting down in the lobby at breakfast. We were all waiting for our trip back. And we just got into a conversation. And it was one of the most valuable conversations I've had in martial arts and martial arts business, and you just openly shared things that I can do...

Meaning & Purpose in Retirement, Ep #6In this episode of the One for the Money podcast, I share what you can do to ensure you have a fulfilling retirement. The process has less to do with money than you might think. In the tips, tricks, and strategies portion, I'll share the first of many tax strategies as we approach the individual tax filing deadline of Monday, April 18th, 2022. You'll learn the multitude of reasons you should seriously consider Roth IRAs for your children. Listen in to learn this and more! In this episode...Looking back to look forward [01:15] Replacing your work identity [04:48] Preventing loneliness [07:55] Preparing your kids for retirement [11:38] Meaning and purposeA successful early retirement is way more than pursuing the correct financial strategies. It's having a plan that enables you to do the things that matter most. In the inaugural episode of this podcast, I went over where happiness is ultimately derived. In this episode, I dive deeper into two of those areas: meaning and purpose. You may be baffled by the idea that retirement can feel a bit depressing for some people. For early retirees, it can feel more so. We forget that we get a lot of meaning and purpose from our careers. Finding that same level of meaning and purpose in retirement doesn't happen accidentally. It requires significant planning. When you look up the word retirement, you'll see images of people relaxing on a tropical beach or traveling the world. These images convey feelings of liberation, relaxation, happiness, and joy. But reality can be very different from what you see online. However, your retirement can be even more meaningful with the right type of planning. Finding deep meaning As I shared in the first episode, much of what makes us happy has nothing to do with money. True meaning doesn't have to be something grand like solving world hunger. It can be as simple as spending more meaningful time with your family or volunteering for your community. Ideally, we can find an activity that provides meaning, purpose, and true fulfillment. Another way retirees plan for success is by staying relevant and connected. As an early retiree, many of your friends and family will still work. Losing connections at the workplace can lead to increased feelings of loneliness. Because of that, it's crucial to become involved with organizations before you retire so you can look forward to spending time with people you already know. The exponent of timeIn the episodes leading up to the 2022 personal tax filing deadline, April 18th, I'm going to be going over strategies to not only prepare you for early retirement but to do so in ways that may reduce the taxes you pay in the process. While our focus is on early retirement planning, you may also want to consider helping your children get started on their early retirement planning as well. We always want to pay taxes when it's to our advantage. Obviously, that would mean paying when income tax rates are the lowest. As a child, that rate could be as low as zero. Therefore, contributing to a Roth IRA as a child can mean never having to pay taxes on the amount contributed during this period. As an investor, the single most powerful thing you can do is increase your time horizon. By having your kids set up a Roth IRA, you give them the gift of decades more time for their investments to benefit from compound interest. WELCOME BACK!!!Tune in as Ricky breaks down the importance of Self Discipline!Self-Discipline starts with learning the power of purposeA person who has purpose brings meaning to their life. For some people it becomes "a magnificent obsession."It has to be something that pulls us towards a brighter futureFirst we have to check and see what's influencing Our lives:Some are pulled back by their past Some are pulled aside by meaningless distractionsThe more powerful your purpose the stronger it pulls. It pulls us through all kinds of challenges and difficultiesWithout a strong purpose it's easy to get swallowed by a bad day or to be annihilated a poor month. You have to have something beyond Today, beyond tomorrow, this month and even next year. Otherwise, it's easy to give in to doubt and uncertainty. The more dynamic your purpose is the more it affects your life, your spirit, your heart, and soul. when we tap into our imagination it gets our minds working on how to achieve this purpose. If your mind, heart, and spirit works, there isn't anything you can't accomplish.Having a strong purpose leads to self confidence.Follow Ricky on IG & TikTok @rickyaitkenglobal for DAILY CONTENT!

Millennials are unsurprisingly challenging the traditional styles of leadership with completely different values and expectations from their leaders. As we learn from the sibling duo Akash and Nikita Mehta, communication, relationship-building and empowerment are some of the major key components influencing their leadership styles. Akash became the youngest ever global digital manager for Dior aged 25 and is a Forbes 30 Under 30 as well as a TEDx speaker. Nikita has a background in developing sustainable initiatives for LVMH, and spent many years in her family business of luxury perfumery, who excitingly were behind the fragrance for Formula 1.
