He joins David Duncan, co-author with Clayton Christensen on Competing Against Luck and author of The Secret Lives of Customers, to discuss how the team at LinkedIn has drawn on Jobs Theory to unlock innovation through a better understanding of the functional, social, and emotional Jobs had by its members and customers. In using the Jobs To Be Done framework, LinkedIn has been able to take steps towards the implementation of a common language across its many teams, has made more intentional choices around which Jobs they're solving for and why, and has found increased success in both articulating LinkedIn's value to its customers and in capturing opportunities for growth and innovation. Listen to learn more about the pilot studies that were undertaken; some of the Jobs that were uncovered in asking, “Why do people post on LinkedIn?”; how the team got buy-in from employees and incorporated Jobs into the company's culture; and the challenges and opportunities that presented themselves along the way.

Premiere.

What is UX, user experience and what kind of user experiences does it include? Would unboxing also be part of UX? What aspects of UX design can enable seamless experiences across devices? Does personalization enhance user experience? How do Spotify, Thread do it well ? What are the key future trends to watch out for in UX? Damian answers the above questions and many more as he talks about User Experience Design and helping businesses focus on users first and how they can design better interactions using new technology. Damian is an expert in UX research, product design, & psychology. Damian Rees is the UX Director for Europe at Ipsos (a global research company ) responsible for educating and empowering teams to deliver top quality UX research and design work to clients globally. Please connect with Jasravee on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasravee/ Email Jasravee at jasravee@theadiva.com Damian believes that UX is about making an experience easy, useful, and in some circumstances enjoyable for user. The thing that sets UX apart is the structured user-centred design process at the heart. Where users are the focus right from the start and any assumptions are validated and design ideas are tested iteratively. So when something launches, we already know users want it, need it, and can use it.A good user experience is about making it simple, fast, accessible, easy to understand, credible. He talks about his personal experience where he took his 7 year old to McDonalds and he ordered a happy meal for himself and his brother with no help from me. He just watched and felt it was such a great example of UX. If a 7 year old can walk up to something, interact, and complete a purchase then the experience has been designed well. The core differences between Customer Experience (CX) and UX is that CX is about the overall customer relationship – across multiple touch points. UX tends to be more about focusing on individual touch points at a time and designing the interactions between the customer and the business. Kagonya Awori proposes a lens for game design that is based on indigenous African ways of knowing. Based on a study with elders in Kenya and diaspora youth in Australia, this talk proposes a lens that can motivate the design of games that can better mediate learning for African communities. The People-Place-Praxis lens is based on the view that knowledge is developed, shared and stored over time through situated face-to-face interactions with people and indigenous epicentres. The P-P-P lens views People as knowledge, Place as knowledge and Praxis as knowledge. This triad view of knowledge asserts that immersive learning involves supporting social, situated and physical interactions among members, and in close association with indigenous epicentres. DR. Laura's research has been published in CHI, Intelligent Virtual Agents, AAAI, and featured in The Wall Street Journal and MIT Technology Review. In today's episode we talk to Laura about career transitions, ethics in technology development and the value of applied social science. Laura shares her path of becoming a UX researcher. Many of the turns that we take during our professional career, says Laura, are leaps of faith. Having discovered her interest in human-computer interaction when the field itself was only in the process of becoming means that she often had to believe to have the needed expertise and create her own professional goals. We ask Laura how did she come to make her choices, what does she consider to be the conditions for a cohesive cross-functional team to be successful and what to take into consideration when transitioning to industry from a more theoretical work place? At last we ask Laura about her view of the future in the field of machine learning and what should we be prepared for. Laura Vardoulakis  - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/laura-vardoulakis-0182442a/

This creates a big barrier, and, I believe, a tremendous opportunity inside of the marketplace.  So what we do is we take the tools that you use; we integrate them into a work flow so that, ultimately, you enter in your project details, that is, who it is that you want to talk to, when you want to talk to them, whether it’s a focus group, in-person, or virtual or IDI’s or ethnos; and we connect you to those right people in the times that you want to have those conversations or connections – Push-Button Qualitative Insights, HubUx.  If you have any questions, reach out to me directly. Anyone who is interested in getting into the field If you want a bit of clarification of what UX, UI and Product Designers do People who want to upskill Let's start by… Explaining what a UX researcher does? UX stands for User Experience Research methods, quantitative research Validating what the users want and the problems are Applying traditional methodologies to the digital design process Has to be about the customer and the problem if there is one What do customers actually want and what they need? Overlaps with UX design, they can work together Depending on the size of the company, team and budget, will suggest the amount or level of research they do Explaining what a UX designer does? Focus on the experience of the user and customer for the digital product Find out if the product is enjoyable to use Do they align with the business needs? Information architecture, what information needs to be in the product User personas, user testing, iterating, wireframes, no visual design in a UX design role We sort out the journey, it’s like the cogs of a clock - does it function, is it enjoyable to watch? Agile environment, constantly changing - if something is not working, you have to take it back and move it forward with the user in mind Do more testing, change the UX - it is not a linear process Check back to www.becomerecruitment.com/podcast to keep up to date with all the latest news and podcasts.

Movie Production Issues Lack of studio support. Poor audience test results. VERY small number of screens. Somehow, a cult hit after release. Why Do People Love This Movie? Has internet cult hit status. Why? Appealing to elitism and cynicism? Fart jokes? Love it or hate it. Christopher Has a Problem With This Movie It feels mean, basically. Also the extrapolations it makes are unreasonable as far as I’m concerned. Dumbing Down Society Network covered similar ground in the 1970s. Whose Fault is this Situation? The yuppies for not reproducing more? The “dumb” people? The system? Corporatism, selfishness, etc? Human Evolution Defining terms because people use them in the wrong way too often. How humanity actually evolves. Dysgenics. Why the movie is wrong. Bad Things “Crab mentality.” Self absorption. Laziness. Selfishness. Willful ignorance. Materialism. Most user experience research takes place sitting behind a computer. And yet these days, most networked experiences are happening on mobile devices. Some common user experience research methods work well in a mobile environment - others don’t. In this talk, Juliette Melton will guide you through how to use some great existing research methods in a mobile context, how to incorporate some new (and fun!) methods into your arsenal, and propose next generation tools and services to make mobile user experience research even better. Juliette has ten years of experience building, managing, and researching digital environments and is a human factors researcher based at IDEO in San Francisco. She’s deeply interested in the intersections between digital culture, learning, and communication. Her work has spanned a broad range of industries including social media, casual gaming, education administration, electronic publishing, corporate banking, computer hardware, and public health. Community education - through workshops, lectures, and writing - is an important part of her work. Remote user experience methods, agile project management, and research program planning are frequent topics. Juliette holds an MEd from the Technology, Innovation, and Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she focused on developing models for innovative networked learning applications. She also has a BA in Comparative Literature from Haverford College.
