Welcome to the 165th episode of the Tooth or Dare Podcast with Irene Iancu (@toothlife.irene) and this week's guest Dr. Andi-Jean Miro (@aestheticsbyandi). We return to celebrity dentist Dr. Andi this week to discuss some controversial practices in cosmetic dentistry. Is the rising popularity of over-the-counter dental procedures good or bad? How do we manage unrealistic expectations of patients coming from social media platforms where people have “perfect” teeth? Dr. Andi has seen it all, and wants anyone considering cosmetic dentistry to know what's possible and what's too good to be true. You won't want to miss this opportunity to educate yourself and pass on Andi's wisdom to your patients. Dr. Andi graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 2014 with a focus on Aesthetic Dentistry, followed by a highly regarded Clinical Residency in Brooklyn. For eight years, she refined her skills at working alongside Dr. Mike Apa at Apa Aesthetic in Manhattan on the Upper East Side. Dr. Andi discovered her passion for both practicing and teaching dentistry during this time. In 2019, during the pandemic, Dr. Andi founded STRIBE, an innovative dental education platform created by dentists for dentists, aiming to make top-quality dental education more accessible worldwide. Dr. Andi has a strong commitment to teaching and frequently travels to lecture on cosmetic dentistry. Today, we're sitting down with Dr. Chris Pescatore, a general dentist with over 30 years of experience. He has been a pioneer in digital dentistry since the early '90s and has seen it all when it comes to creating aesthetic restorations. As you listen to Dr. Pescatore's insights, we hope you gain invaluable advice to help guide you as you embark on your own dental career.

On this episode of the Raving Patients Podcast, Len sits down with Ben Tuinei to discuss how insurance participation may, or may not, impact your marketing strategy. According to our data, the vast majority of dentists in the U.S. participate with more than 3 PPO plans. Many dentists believe that insurance participation is a necessary part of practicing dentistry. He believes that if you are going to participate with insurance you must do so in a way that is on your terms. Negotiating fees and contracts is something that has been somewhat of a secret or a foreign concept in dentistry until 10 years ago when the concept of negotiating with insurance started to become more well known. Takeaways from this episode include: PPO Participation and new patients or active patients. Is there a correlation? Do you lose new patient opportunities by being out of network (non-participating) with insurance plans? While we are on the topic of PPO (insurance) participation, are insurance companies still negotiating fees? Mr. Tuinei began his dental career in 2007 while working for 10 location group practice in Phoenix Arizona managing all insurance related functions. During his first few months, he created systems and operating protocols and restructured a 12 person billing department that improved collections from a low 65% to 98%. At the same time, Mr. Tuinei learned how to effectively negotiate with 3rd party payors that gave a boost in annual insurance related revenue of nearly 1 million dollars for a team of only 10 general dentists. Mr. Tuinei's early experience in negotiating with 3rd party payors caught the attention of other large group practices and hundreds of solo dental practitioners in Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Colorado. Consequently, he unintentionally discovered an under-served section of the dental industry: 3rd party payor negotiating (aka insurance fee negotiating). Mr Tuinei opened Optimum Dental Solutions in September 2009 and rebranded to Veritas Dental Resources in 2015. To-date, Mr Tuinei has worked with over 6700 dentists influencing over 3 billion dollars of newly negotiated revenue for his clients. Mr Tuinei currently serves as the President of Veritas Dental Solutions and is a key advisor to various State Dental Associations, CPA firms, and coaching/consulting firms in dentistry. Mr. Tuinei is going on his 22nd year as a professional public speaker. He currently serves as the President of Veritas Dental Resources and sits on the Board of Directors for The Dental Business School, Business Ownership Mentoring of America, The Dental Leadership Academy, and a co-host on The Navigating Dental Insurance Podcast. Mr. Tuinei has been recognized by several state Dental Associations and various dental study clubs as “The Authority” on PPO strategies and PPO fee Negotiating. His articles are frequently published in the Dental Economics and Aesthetic Dentistry magazines.

Welcome back for episode 30 of the Noobie Dentist Podcast! It always exciting to reach a milestone episode and having published 30 episodes is something that I am certainly quite proud of. It’s nice to reflect on all the great guests that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to on the podcast and the hours of work are more than justified when I get messages from dentists and dental students from around the world who enjoy listening to the podcast. In this episode I interviewed Dr. Davey Alleman who is a young dentist based in the United States. He is currently a dentist in the military and practices biomimetic dentistry. Biomimetic dentistry is a hot topic and is an area of dentistry that I have personally been interested in and so this chat with Davey was an amazing way to learn more. This episode is by far one of my favourites in terms of the richness of the content; Davey did not hold back and really delivered unbelievable value during this interview. I am sure that you guys will learn a few things as well and I hope that it can impact your thought process and even clinical practice as much as it did for me. I strongly feel that biomimetic dentistry is the way of the future and something that we will look back on in 10-15 years and wonder why we used to cut teeth for retention. Can find Dr. Alleman on Instagram: @davey_alleman_dmd I have attached some links for download of a couple of recommended papers from Dr. Alleman on my website in the show notes for this episode: https://noobiedentist.com/podcast/ The course that Dr. Alleman highly recommends is: https://www.biomimeticdentistryce.com/ **Announcements** Noobie Dentist Study Club Australia is now live: https://www.facebook.com/groups/986018644911271/ Our first event called is “Introduction to Aesthetic Dentistry” with Dr. Varun Garg and Dr. Bharat Agrawal. Our latest guest, Dawn Wehking, loves the shit out of dentistry. Plain and simple. Check out Dawn's practice at www.DentistLafayette.com When you think of your dentist, you probably don't think about someone who loves to build and create. Dr. Dawn Wehking is a born builder. She loves to build relationships and she loves hands-on work that allows her to build something both structurally sound as well as beautiful. So then it might not surprise you that Dr. Wehking didn't grow up wanting to be a dentist. Initially she wanted to own a restaurant because she wanted to build a sense of community and foster relationships with her patrons. But she quickly realized running a local hotspot wouldn't satisfy her need for creativity and hands-on work. What she needed was a way to combine her structural and artistic flair with her passion for building relationships and a sense of community. That's when dentistry became her clear career choice. When you entrust your dental care to Dr. Wehking, you'll see she's creating and building something quite special at Complete Family and Aesthetic Dentistry. She's building a relationship with you so she understands you and your needs. She's building a solid team who provides you the best possible care. She's creating a practice that's a committed part of the Lafayette community. And she's creating beautiful, healthy smiles. Dr. Wehking also strongly believes in building her knowledge through Continuing Education (CE). She completes over 200 hours CE per year and throughout her career she's totaled over 1200 hours. Recently Dr. Wehking was awarded Fellow status with the Academy of General Dentistry. She finished the Spear Education curriculum, a place where great dentists go to learn how to be exceptional dentists. She now serves as visiting faculty at Spear Education. In addition, Dr. Wehking speaks on behalf of the American Dental Association at dental schools across the country, teaching dental students about life after dental school. While it might sound nerdy, Dr. Wehking's greatest hobby is dentistry. Even when she's away from the office, Dr Wehking is building. You see, Dr. Wehking is much more than just a dentist. She's a smile architect. (Wondering about the Tooth Fairy's house in the Complete Family and Aesthetic Dentistry office? Well, Dr. Wehking built that, too.)
