(Murder On The Set of Jaws) *** Of the many mysterious and ominous places on earth, many bodies of water are said to be cursed, haunted, or both. For whatever reason these lakes have drawn about them tales of misfortune, terror, and death, and they continue to elude rational answers. I'll share some of the strangest. (Cursed Lakes) *** At the dawn of the 20th Century Ambrose Bierce was one of the most famous writers in America. And then he mysteriously vanished. (The Disappearance of Ambrose Bierce) *** Charles Willey experienced hundreds of fires on his property in the summer of 1948 – but how did they start? Add a bit of alcohol and you just may have a powder keg ready to explode. (Rum, Jealously, and Murder) *** Over the course of just two years, Christopher Duntsch operated on 38 patients in the Dallas area, leaving 31 paralyzed or seriously injured and two of them dead. It's no wonder he was given the morbid nickname of “Dr. Death”. (Doctor Death) *** A child's game of hide-and-seek turns to terror. (The House At The Front) *** In the Outback of Queensland, Australia, ghostly orbs of light have been frightening people for centuries. What do we know about the mystery of the orbs and what are some of the theories about what they could be? (The Min Min Orbs) *** Are extraterrestrials secretly watching over us and saving us from our own destruction? Australia has been blessed with some of the greatest songwriters of all time. On their Mount Rushmore has to be Robert Forster and Grant McLennan of the Go-Betweens. What started out as spikey post-punk, eventually morphed into some of the most lush and perfect pop music ever made. If you don't believe me, listen to 1988's immaculate 16 Lovers Lane for proof. Not feeling they'd gained a big enough audience, the guys parted ways for a while until reforming in 2000 and keeping it going until Grant's death in 2006. Robert's solo work is also excellent and he's releasing a great new album, Strawberries, this week. We discuss how he writes such amazing story songs, his influences, the uniqoe story behind the new album and a ton more. He's one of the best there's ever been and we're lucky to have him.  www.robertforster.net www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod

David Skarica discusses his book "Mega Returns: Profit from Maximum Pessimism," highlighting key themes such as the end of asset price inflation driven by excessive debt and government spending. The conversation begins with an exploration of how COVID-19 and the 2008 financial crisis fueled a period of unprecedented debt, leading to inflated asset prices across sectors. Skarica emphasized the dangers of governments overspending during COVID, particularly in the U.S., where interest payments now surpass defense budgets. A concerning sign of fiscal strain. He warned that rising debt levels globally, especially in Japan and emerging markets like Canada and Australia, could trigger a debt crisis, potentially leading to hyperinflation. Investment strategies were a focal point, with Skarica advocating for precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and palladium as hedges against inflation. He also suggests specific ETFs for corporate bonds and options trading as actionable strategies. Additionally, he highlighs opportunities in emerging markets, particularly India's growth potential and Argentina as a turnaround play. Green energy and technology are discussed with cautious optimism. While skeptical of some trends, Skarica identifies opportunities in green energy companies and rare earth metals. He remains cautious about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, noting their volatility but acknowledging their role as a hedge against dollar devaluation. Finally, Skarica underscores the importance of monitoring bond markets for signs of economic stress, particularly rising yields, which could indicate broader financial instability. His insights provide a comprehensive view of current market dynamics and actionable strategies for investors navigating a complex financial landscape. At the age of 16, he read the small booklet “The Plague of the Black Debt”, by James Dale Davidson, which was given to him by his uncle. David was always a sports stat nut, loving football, hockey and baseball stats, which lead to David becoming intrigued with economics and markets. David is such an avid Football and Las Vegas Raiders fan — his principal in grammar school was Bernie Custis, who was the late Raiders owner Al Davis' roommate at Syracuse University, and the first ever African American quarterback in college and pro football history — that he also runs his own football vlog, Raiders Greats, which discusses great Raiders player of the past. He also is a soccer fan who supports Leeds Utd., as his father was born in Leeds, England. In 1996, at the age of 18, David became the youngest person on record (that he knows of anyhow) to obtain the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) license to trade investment securities. In the late 1990s, David felt that the market was becoming another epic bubble similar to the bubble of the 1920s, so he decided at the tender age of 20 to write his first book, Stock Market Panic!, which was published in 1998. Over the next decade, gold soared from $250 an ounce to nearly $1900, while the S&P 500 lost value. In the same year that this book was published, he decided to start his newsletter, Addicted to Profits. The newsletter's name was a spin on Robert Palmer's famed song Addicted ...

From escaping the grind of corporate London to designing a freedom-first lifestyle, Michelle shares how remote roles can radically transform our mental health, relationships, and definition of success. This conversation is a wake-up call for anyone stuck in the 9-5 burnout loop, offering real-world advice to start designing a work life aligned with personal values—not outdated policies. About the Guest:Michelle Coulson is the founder and CEO of Remote Rebellion, a career platform helping professionals find remote work that prioritizes well-being, flexibility, and freedom. The United Nations humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher has told the BBC that 14,000 babies in Gaza could die within the next two days unless aid can reach them. He said baby food brought into the territory by five trucks on Monday was "a drop in the ocean". Israel has blocked all aid from entering Gaza for the past 11 weeks, saying it was putting pressure on Hamas, which it accuses of stealing aid. The UN says permission has now been given for a further 100 aid trucks to enter Gaza on Tuesday. Medical workers in Gaza say Israeli airstrikes overnight killed at least 60 people. The attacks came just hours after Britain, Canada and France condemned the military operation as "wholly disproportionate". Also in the programme: The United Kingdom and the European Union are placing more sanctions on Russia. Will that have any effect on Moscow to end the war in Ukraine? And, one ultra-marathoner tells us what he's feeling after running across Australia.(Photo: Palestinians wait to receive food cooked by a charity kitchen, in Jabalia, in the northern Gaza Strip, May 19, 2025. Central to the discussion is ‘Sway' an AI-powered platform developed by Simon and his team to foster rigorous, evidence-based dialogue among students on controversial topics. Sway intelligently pairs students with opposing views and acts as a “guide on the side,” scaffolding reasoning, encouraging intellectual humility, and ensuring that exchanges remain constructive and charitable. Simon shares the empirical findings from thousands of Sway-mediated dialogues, where measurable increases in students' openness, comfort, and analytical reasoning have been observed—even on divisive subjects like gender, immigration, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. In This Episode:

Turns out, the mountains where Eric disappeared are known for keeping their secrets. Uinta Triangle tells the story of the desperate search for Eric. Host Dave Cawley follows in Eric’s footsteps, and joins Eric’s wife in her worldwide hunt for answers. It’s a “lost in the woods” story, but much more. Day geckos and certain plants share a long evolutionary history, with day geckos feasting on nectar and in return pollinating plants. A study from back in the mid 2000s proved this neatly, and we delve into it this episode. After that, we have a snake eating somebody's underwear, and a very novel new method for controlling invasive cane toads in Australia. Harriet Frost is a force of energy, endurance, and entrepreneurial grit.  From completing the notorious Arc of Attrition 100-mile ultra twice, to directing multiple trail races, to co-founding a menstrual cup company focused on sustainable period care for athletes — Harriet is redefining what it means to pursue hard things, in business and on the trail. In this episode, Harriet shares her journey from growing up in Cornwall to discovering a love of endurance sport later in life — despite hating running at first. With no formal coaching, she's built her own training strategy based on experience, discipline, and gut instinct — and it's taken her to the finish lines of some of the UK's most brutal ultra events. We also dive into the founding of Sea+Flo, a period care company created by women, for women, aiming to empower people to better understand and manage their menstrual health during sport. Harriet speaks candidly about the mental strength required to train alone, run in the dark, and manage periods while racing, as well as her mission to bring more female voices to the forefront of adventure and endurance media. This is a conversation about grit, vulnerability, and showing up — again and again — even when the path ahead is long, muddy, and uncertain.  New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast drop every Tuesday at 7 AM (UK time)! Make sure to subscribe so you never miss the inspiring journeys and incredible stories of tough women pushing boundaries.  Do you want to support the Tough Girl Mission to increase the amount of female role models in the media in the world of adventure and physical challenges? Support via Patreon! Thousands of children from South Korea have been adopted by Australian families over decades. In many cases, these children were raised to believe they were orphans – and their adoptive families believed they were doing something loving and selfless by giving them a home. But a much more sinister truth has been laid bare: South Korea’s own Truth and Reconciliation Commission exposed how many of those adoptions were built on falsified orphan records, and traced trafficking and forged documents back to the agencies involved. Today, associate editor for The Saturday Paper, Martin McKenzie-Murray, on the trafficking of fake orphans, and whether Australia is finally ready to confront its role in the trade. In October 1997, a chilling crime unfolded in Canberra, Australia. Anu Singh, a law student at the Australian National University, drugged her boyfriend Joe Cinque's coffee with Rohypnol at a dinner party. Over the next 36 hours, she injected him with heroin multiple times. Despite his deteriorating condition, she delayed seeking help, and when paramedics arrived, it was too late. Following this case the law changed in the Australian capital territory ending the option of homicide trials being heard by a judge only. Sources: Poisonous Liaisons:S1, E13 Toxic Affairs https://www.nowtolove.com.au/news/local-news/anu-singh-speaks-out-about-killing-joe-cinque-37386/https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/canberra-breakfast/joe-cinque-death-at-downer-20th-anniversary/9087140https://fawesome.tv/tv-shows/10468007/s03-e05-anu-singh-crimes-that-shook-australia&utm_source=social_share&utm_medium=website_fawesometv_copylink&utm_content=video_screenhttps://time.com/archive/6647083/everything-but-the-truth/Send us a textEmail Residue: residuepodcast@gmail.comFind RESIDUE online:Instagram: @residuepodcastTik Tok: @residuepodcast Facebook: Residue:A True Crime Podcast Credits: RESIDUE is Hosted/Produced/Researched/Edited by Chrissy Champagne THEME SONG: "Dance Of Death" by Purple Planet Music collection written and performed by Chris Martyn and Geoff Harvey.
