Every Christian wrestles with temptation, but the Bible outlines a clear plan for victory.By submitting to God, fleeing from sin, and choosing holiness daily, we can live in freedom and strength. In this episode, Pastor Jeff and Tiffany explore why we face temptation and how believers can overcome it. They unpack practical steps from Scripture to stay steadfast in faith and restore fellowship with God when we fall short. What We Discussed[00:00] Introduction: Spiritual Victory and TemptationPastor Jeff and Tiffany continue their series on practical theology, turning to the topic of temptation and how believers can live in victory through Christ.[01:18] The Story of José RiveraPastor Jeff shares a humorous story originally told by Ravi Zacharias that illustrates how easily temptation can win when we give in to selfish desires.[04:30] What Is Temptation?Temptation is the invitation to act against God's will. It can come from the sin nature within us, from Satan, or from the world around us.[05:19] Step 1: Decide Not to YieldVictory begins with a firm choice to resist. James 4:7 reminds us to “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”[06:33] Step 2: Submit to God ImmediatelyThe first move in any moment of temptation is to surrender control to God. Submission gives Him command of our hearts and strength to resist.[07:21] Step 3: Resist in God's StrengthWe cannot fight temptation in our own power. We must rely on God's strength and, when possible, remove ourselves from the situation, just as Joseph fled from Potiphar's wife in Genesis 39.[08:16] Step 4: Do the Holy AlternativeInstead of focusing only on what to avoid, believers are called to do the holy alternative, to obey God and walk in His will.[10:16] Step 5: Avoid What Tempts YouPaul's words in 2 Corinthians 6:17 call believers to “come out from among them and be separate.” Avoid people, places, and influences that stir temptation.[13:00] Step 6: Deal with Sin ImmediatelyWhen we fall, we must confess and repent quickly. Sin breaks fellowship with God, but confession restores intimacy and peace.[14:04] What Happens When Fellowship BreaksSin doesn't destroy salvation, but it creates a barrier in our relationship with God. Like conflict in a family, the bond remains, but the closeness is lost until forgiveness is sought.[16:00] Restoring Fellowship through RepentanceRepentance is turning 180 degrees back toward God. 1 John 1:9 assures us that when we confess, He is faithful to forgive and cleanse us. Even after failure, repentance brings victory.[17:37] The Real VictoryNo victory over temptation is permanent in this life, but every defeat can become victory when it leads us back to repentance and renewal in Christ.“Defeat can become victory when repentance leads us back to God.” – Pastor Jeff CranstonWe love your feedback! In No More Goodbyes, Alexis A. Goring tenderly reflects on the deep sorrow of loss and the eternal hope believers have in Jesus Christ. Drawing from Matthew 5:4, this devotional reminds us that while goodbyes are painful, they are never final for those who belong to Christ. One day, in Heaven, there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more goodbyes—only joy in God’s presence and reunion with loved ones who have gone before us. Through Scripture and song, Alexis invites readers to rest in the comforting truth that death does not have the final word—Jesus does. Highlights Earthly goodbyes are temporary; eternal reunion awaits in Heaven. Sin and death entered the world through Adam and Eve, but salvation through Christ restores eternal life. Jesus’ sacrifice gives believers unshakable hope beyond loss and sorrow. Heaven promises perfect peace—no pain, no separation, no final farewells. Worship songs like “Goodbye for Now” and “No More Pain” beautifully express the hope of Heaven and the comfort of Christ. In this liberating episode, Jennifer explores one of A Course in Miracles' most radical teachings from Chapter 19: that there is no sin, only mistakes that call for correction rather than punishment. She shares her personal journey from being attracted to punishment and making others (and herself) feel guilty to recognizing that punishment is actually guilt's protection mechanism that keeps the illusion of sin alive. Drawing from the section "The Unreality of Sin," Jennifer explains how the ego brings sin to fear demanding punishment, when actually love is what's being called for, and how she transformed her life by shifting from labeling things as "sins" to seeing them as "tactical errors" deserving compassion and correction - a shift that dissolved her own unconscious guilt and freed her from self-destructive patterns including alcohol abuse. To learn more about A Course in Miracles please visit Powerofloveministry.net. Sin is like an infection. If it's not dealt with, it will only continue to grow and consume. Once we let sin in, its natural tendency is to spread. What starts as a small compromise leads to another larger one. Jesus breaks social norms and customs to seek out The Woman at the Well. Through this encounter, we discover the tender heart of God for people on the fringe of society.  Today's Bible verse is John 4:14 from the King James Version.Download the Pray.com app for more Christian content including, Daily Prayers, Inspirational Testimonies, and Bedtime Bible Stories.Pray.com is the digital destination for faith.

JAILHOUSE LETTERS – Voices from inside the cult!As a looming crisis engulfs the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, Cheryl's inbox fills with long and detailed emails from current PBCC members, desperate to escape, but trapped by the prison bars of fear, family and finance. Most of these heartbreaking messages are confidential, but a few brave souls have given us permission to read out their accounts – giving us a deeply disturbing picture of what life is REALLY like inside the cult. Before we dive into the letters, we have a round-table discussion about the dramatic events of the past few days, and perform a public autopsy of Lloyd Grimshaw's preposterous podcast with the heroic Hales boys. Using a few choice quotes from the Ministry of Bruce D Hales we expose the profound contradictions between what the Hales-spawn say– and what Daddy ministered. Worldly friends, boats, fishing, sports, Rupert Murdoch AKA the Man of Sin were all condemned by Daddy in the strongest language. Now Gareth, Dean, Greg and Charles are singing like birds, cheerfully endorsing and confessing to sins for which anyone else would have been thrown overboard. This week, Jake and Bob begin a two part series on desire and how it relates to sin. They discuss how sin arises from a desire for good and how our woundedness shapes these patterns of sin. Rather than suppressing our desires, Jake and Bob reflect on the goodness of desire and the importance of rightly ordering it through prayer. Through personal stories and movie references, they end by walking you through practical ways to identify the holy desires beneath your struggles.   Key Points: Behind every disordered desire is a holy desire, an unmet need, an unhealed wound, and a hidden pattern of sin. Sin arises from a desire for the good Every time we experiencing longing, we are experiencing a desire for God To stop patterns of sin, we must first recognize the underlying desire Self reliance is the false belief that the satisfaction of our deepest desires is completely up to us. Desire is an essential element of the Christian life.  God desires our wholehearted devotion and places desire on our hearts so we seek and love Him Movies, music, and stories can reveal and awaken our deepest desires. They show us what moves our hearts and what we deeply long for.   Resources: Unwanted: How Our Sexual Brokenness Reveals Our Way to Healing by Jay Stringer One Desire by Hillsong Worship   Chapters: 00:00:00 Introduction 00:03:23 Sin Arises from a Desire for Good 00:11:32 Self-Reliance, Deadly Wounds, and the Anatomy of a Wound 00:16:52 We Cannot Escape Our Desire for God 00:20:29 The Integration of Virtue and Desire 00:22:56 The Battle of Desire 00:32:14 Awakening or Killing Right Desire 00:36:13 Can Movies Reactivate Desire?   Connect with Restore the Glory:  Instagram: @restoretheglorypodcast  Twitter: @RestoreGloryPod Facebook: Restore the Glory Podcast   Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! Martyn Lloyd-Jones Sermon Podcast

Romans 8:12-13 — The Christian is called to deal with sin in a radical way. The language the apostle Paul uses is “to mortify flesh.” But what exactly does this mean? How does the Christian kill sin? In this sermon on Romans 8:12–13 titled “Sin and the Body,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones examines the passage and looks deeper into the doctrine of sanctification. Specifically, he gives attention to the practical expression of sanctification. He gives both negative ways to mortify sin and positive expressions. What must be remembered, he says, is that the Christian is not powerless against sin. Many false views of the doctrine of sanctification teach this. However, the biblical teaching is that the believer has the Holy Spirit indwelling them. They cannot rely on joyless legalism. Instead, they gaze their attention on the glorification that awaits them. While the Christians practically shun darkness, lust, and enticement, they also expose and denounce immediately any evil that comes out. More importantly, they remember that they are God's chosen means of representing Him to the world. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones gives a pastorally-sensitive message on sanctification and holiness.

    Martyn Lloyd-Jones Sermon Podcast

Romans 8:12-13 — There are many aberrant teachings on the doctrine of sanctification. Some like to say the believer is completely hopeless with regards to sin but is this true? Must the Christian only focus on “abiding” in Christ? Does the regenerate person have no power to act against sin? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones vehemently denies such claims. In his sermon on Romans 8:12–13 titled “Sin and the Christian,” he says the Christian is indeed not hopeless. Instead, the believer is called to realize the truth about their union with Christ. Furthermore, they must not deny the doctrine of regeneration through an insufficient doctrine of sanctification. The Holy Spirit has made them alive and the Spirit of God dwells in them. This gives the Christian power in this life for godly growth. As they walk through this life they should expect maturity. The Christian is far from hopeless in their fight against sin. They have all that they need in Christ and by the Spirit. Dr. Lloyd-Jones admonishes Christians to wake up from their lethargy and realize what God has done to them in Christ. Let them march to Zion, shining forth in good works and glorifying their Father who is in heaven.

Timothy Keller Sermons Podcast by Gospel in Life

In the Middle Ages, theologians said there are different forms of gluttony—that you can eat and drink excessively, sumptuously, daintily, or impulsively. Technically, gluttony means to eat and drink immoderately. But gluttony also tells us something about each of us. Gluttony is taking something good and then cramming it in until we're sick of it. Our desires are disordered so that good and necessary things become cravings. Sin, in other words, makes us all addicted to something. We all crave something, and we do it in such a way that it is very, very bad for us. Let's look at three things this Scripture teaches us about craving: 1) the depth of our craving, 2) the structure of our craving, and 3) the healing. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on March 5, 1995. Series: The Seven Deadly Sins. Scripture: Joshua 7:19-26, Hosea 2:13-15.
