These days we can see in numerous ways that there is great division across America. This was evident during last evening's State of the Union address by President Donald Trump. In fact, when asked if American citizens should be prioritized over illegal aliens, Democrats refused to stand in agreement. What the secular media won't tell you is that underlying this division is a great spiritual division. As Isaiah 5:20 puts it: "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" We see this in America today where moral corruption has become rampant due to the inversion of what were once cherished values. The only way out is to turn back to God and righteousness on his terms because it's such righteousness that exalts a nation. Sin, however, is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34). So join Jim as he reviews the President's speech, highlighting numerous points from policy decisions to national awards, as you'll hear via various audio clips.

The truth is, we are more flawed than we want to admit—but more loved than we ever imagined. Jesus didn’t come for people who had it all together. He came for people weighed down by shame. On the cross, Jesus took not just our sins, but our disgrace. He was mocked, rejected, and exposed so that we could be covered with forgiveness. When God looks at those who trust in Jesus, he doesn’t see shame. He sees his beloved children. So when the voices rise—when shame tries to tell you who you are—listen instead to the God who asks, “Who told you that?” Then hear what he tells you instead: You are forgiven. You are loved. You are mine. Prayer: Father, I confess that I listen to voices of shame instead of your truth. Forgive me for believing lies about myself and about you. All this week we're looking at how to help our kids see and run from the idol of materialism. We need to teach them that the accumulation of things will never satisfy their deepest yearnings and desires. They need to know that they have been created by God for a relationship with God. Sin has broken that relationship, leaving us all spiritually empty and hungering for redemption and restoration. The Book of Ecclesiastes tells us that we have eternity in our hearts, which means that our yearnings can only be answered and filled by God. Only God can fill the hole in our souls. God cares deeply about our attitudes towards money and wealth. Did you know that more is said in the New Testament about money and wealth than about heaven and hell combined? Five times more is said about money than about prayer. And sixteen of Christ's thirty-eight parables deal with money. All of us need to realize that the love of money and and things can consume us, keeping us from living to God's honor and glory.

[00:30] The Golden Age of Sin (55 minutes) President Donald Trump will deliver his State of the Union address tonight, which will likely be a self-congratulatory speech celebrating a new age of American peace and prosperity. But what is the real state of our union? Our nation is living in the golden age of sin while the rest of the world pursues the golden age of militarization.

But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:8-9 Where Are You? God knew exactly where Adam and Eve were. He knew they were hiding. He knew why they were afraid. So why ask the question? Because this wasn’t a question of location. It was a question of relationship. After sin entered the world, the first human instinct wasn’t confession—it was hiding. Shame does that. Guilt convinces us that if God really knew us, he wouldn’t want us. So, we hide behind excuses, distractions, or even religion. We stay busy. We avoid quiet moments. We tell ourselves we’ll deal with God later. But God doesn’t wait for sinners to come looking for him. He comes looking for them. “Where are you?” isn’t an angry shout. It’s a grieving invitation. God is saying, “Why are you hiding from the one who loves you?” Sin separates us from God, not because God stops loving us, but because fear replaces trust. That separation is something we can’t fix on our own. We can’t hide well enough, behave well enough, or promise to do better enough to restore what’s broken. That’s why God steps into our hiding place himself. In Jesus, God enters a world full of shame, fear, and brokenness. Jesus takes our guilt onto himself at the cross. He dies exposed, so we don’t have to hide anymore. He rises so that fear doesn’t get the final word. Christianity isn’t about working your way back to God. It’s about realizing God already came to you. If you’ve ever felt distant from God—because of regret, doubt, or failure—this question is for you: “Where are you?” Not to condemn you. But to bring you home. Prayer: God, I admit that I often hide from you when I’m afraid or ashamed. Thank you for seeking me instead of abandoning me. Maltrata a mi mamá y dice que nosotros, como hijos, no servimos. »Nosotros hemos pagado deudas contraídas por mi padre, y siempre le hemos ayudado.... Durante nuestra niñez, nos maltrató.... ¿Está mal si, cuando él maltrata a mi mamá, le decimos que lo que hace está mal? ... ¿Qué nos dice la Biblia respecto a honrar a los padres?» Este es el consejo que le dio mi esposa: «Estimado amigo: »¡Cuánto sentimos la manera como su padre los ha estado maltratando a usted, a su mamá y a sus hermanos, tanto ahora como cuando usted era niño! Todos ustedes han sido víctimas de su padre a pesar de haberlo tratado bien a él y de haberse esforzado por honrarlo. »Siempre es difícil saber cómo proceder cuando hay más de una enseñanza bíblica que pudiera aplicarse a determinada situación. Usted quiere saber lo que dice la Biblia acerca de honrar a nuestros padres. Uno de los Diez Mandamientos que Dios le dio a Moisés nos ordena que honremos a padre y madre,1 pero el honrar a su padre no quiere decir que usted tiene que estar de acuerdo con sus palabras o sus acciones, o que usted debe permitir que él los maltrate a usted y a su mamá. Por supuesto, él no lo va a aceptar ni lo va a admitir, pero no deje que eso impida que usted le diga la verdad con amor. »Sin embargo, si su padre está maltratando a su mamá, entonces lo correcto también es que usted la proteja a ella físicamente de ese maltrato. Recuerde que el amor nunca protege el pecado; protege más bien a las personas. Así que usted debe proteger a su mamá con amor, aunque su padre no esté de acuerdo y esté enojado con todos ustedes. Y las teclas sirven para masajear los pies. En Estados Unidos, donde todo lo que se hace encuentra un comprador, se hicieron pantuflas con formas de ratones sucios, patas de elefante, conejos dientudos y hasta de peces a los que solo les falta moverse. Ah, también hay modelos con césped sintético para sentir que pisas sobre él con los pies descalzos.¿Quieres algo más extraño? En Inglaterra hay sandalias con linternas led en la punta, para que nadie tropiece en la oscuridad cuando se levanta somnoliento a la madrugada (¡estas me gustan!).¿Y qué me dices de las sandalias-trapeadoras? ¡Eso mismo! Tienen tela debajo, para que los dueños también aprovechen a limpiar y lustrar. el piso mientras caminan. ¿Qué tal eso?Sin duda, ninguna de estas fueron las que usó Moisés cuando pastoreaba sus ovejas y se encontró con una zarza que ardía sin consumirse. Allí escuchó una voz extraña que le pidió que se quitara el calzado. ¿Por qué? Sus pies estaban pisando suelo sagrado.La reverencia es algo que Dios nos pide. La vida monótona de Moisés dio un giro completo desde ese día, y la tuya puede ser fantástica si escuchas la voz del Señor. Respetar a Jesús obedeciendo sus peticiones divinas solo te hará una persona cada vez mejor. La presencia de Cristo exige una atención muy seria de nuestra parte, porque nadie puede burlarse de Dios. ¡Jamás! Moisés se quitó sus sandalias y liberó al pueblo de Israel de Egipto. Trata al Señor con reverencia y prepárate para algo grandioso. ¡Y sin pantuflas con forma de ratones, eh!

(Ezequiel 14:3).En el libro Dioses falsos, Timothy Keller define a un ídolo como "algo que para nosotros es más importante que Dios; algo que absorbe más que Dios nuestro corazón y nuestra imaginación; algo que buscamos para que nos dé lo que solo Dios puede dar".En el pasado, los dioses tenían rostro y nombre. Estaba Afrodita, la diosa de la belleza; Ares, el dios de la guerra; Artemisa, la diosa de la fertilidad y la prosperidad; Hefesto, el dios del arte. Hoy, los dioses son los mismos, pero toman formas más sofisticadas y sutiles. Algunas personas son capaces de perder la salud debido a la obsesión por un cuerpo perfecto. Otras sacrifican el tiempo con la familia en la búsqueda desenfrenada de más dinero.Dios le dijo al profeta Ezequiel que los ídolos se producen en el propio corazón humano. Al comentar sobre esta realidad, Calvino dijo que nuestro corazón es una "fábrica de ídolos". Esta es una trágica realidad. En lugar de dedicar a Dios nuestro amor supremo, solemos levantar nuestros tótems y santuarios imaginarios, y de este modo creamos ilusiones para nosotros mismos. En otras palabras, la idolatría es un autosabotaje. Poder, estatus, dinero, fama, familiares e incluso la religión forman parte de este panteón vacío y hueco, incapaz de satisfacer nuestra necesidad de Dios.Los ídolos funcionan como un virus en el sistema operativo del alma, porque desconfiguran nuestras prioridades. Son dictadores exigentes que controlan el enfoque de la adoración y absorben para sí mismos el amor, las energías y el tiempo de sus devotos. Seducen e hipnotizan. Pueden ser incluso cosas buenas, como un hijo o un cónyuge, por ejemplo. Sin embargo, sabemos que nada en este mundo es capaz de llenar el vacío infinito del alma, salvo el eterno Dios.En el Nuevo Testamento, la palabra griega traducida como "ídolo" significa primordialmente "fantasma", "semejanza", "imaginación". ¿Has sustituido a Dios por algunas de estas ilusiones? Tal vez sea un equipo, un artista o incluso una ideología. Hoy, te sugiero que abandones esos ídolos y pongas a Dios en el lugar que le corresponde. Pasa tu mejor tiempo con él. Si Dios es lo primero en tu corazón, serás feliz.

Muerto por los enemigos en la batalla, Urías no le imputaría la culpa, Betsabé estaría libre para ser su mujer, las sospechas contra él desaparecerían y mantendría su honor real. Así, el justo e íntegro David se entregó al maligno y, como agente de Satanás, manchó su alma con el pecado, deshonró a Dios, a su familia y al reino.Desde el principio, Satanás incita a los hijos de Dios a dar el primer paso. Pablo habla dos veces del “misterio”. ¿A qué se refiere? En otro lugar, Pablo se refiere al “misterio de Dios”, que es el propósito eterno de Cielo, “que desde el principio Dios destinó para nuestra gloria” (1 Cor. 2:7) y fue revelado o puesto de manifiesto mediante el Plan de Salvación. Pedro habla de esto como algo que los profetas anticiparon, que “los ángeles ansían contemplar” (1 Ped. 1:10-12), que fue concebido “antes de la creación del mundo” (vers. 20) y que estuvo “oculto desde los tiempos eternos” (Rom. 16:25). Sin embargo, este misterio ha sido revelado en virtud de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Cristo (2 Cor. 3:14). ¿Cómo iluminan las siguientes referencias al misterio de Dios diversos aspectos del Plan de Salvación? Efesios 1:7–10 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Efesios 3:3–6 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finalmente, “todo lo que está en el cielo y lo que está en la tierra” se unirá en Cristo. Este fue el tema central de la oración de Jesús en Juan 17. La manera exacta en esto sucedería era un misterio que ha sido revelado por medio del evangelio. El asombroso amor de Dios por nosotros, que lo llevó a dar a Jesús, el invaluable tesoro del Cielo, para nuestra salvación, será nuestro tema de estudio durante toda la eternidad. Pero sabemos esto: Cristo “por todos murió, para que los que viven ya no vivan para sí, sino para Aquel que murió y resucitó por ellos” (2 Cor. 5:15). En consecuencia, todos los que creen en Cristo, ya sea que provengan del judaísmo o del paganismo, participan por igual de las promesas de Dios por medio del evangelio y han sido reunidos en un solo cuerpo: la iglesia. La expresión “Cristo en ustedes” (Col. 1:27) se refiere a la presencia de Jesús en el corazón en virtud de la fe (Efe. 3:17; comparar con Gál. 2:20). Esta unión espiritual con Cristo permite a los creyentes, incluso ahora, sentarse “en el cielo con Cristo Jesús” (Efe. 2:6) y disfrutar de “las poderosas maravillas del siglo venidero” (Heb. 6:5). La presencia de Cristo en nuestra vida hace posible que él nos una con el Cielo desde ahora. El evangelio que obra en el corazón de los creyentes “nos hizo aptos para participar de la herencia de los santos en luz” (Col. 1:12). 

Hablar de las reformas que se necesitan para fortalecer el financiamiento a las campañas electorales en democracia, es un tema poco atractivo… Hasta que se destapa un manejo inadecuado, irregular o abiertamente ilegal y se produce un escándalo que, inevitablemente, termina por denostar a la democracia misma. Sin ir más lejos, el informe preliminar de la OEA tras la reciente elección, alertó a Costa Rica sobre el peligro de la infiltración del crimen organizado en el esquema de financiamiento nacional. Además, nos recordó las reformas pendientes en cuanto a la dependencia del financiamiento privado en los torneos, así como la falta de límites a las contribuciones, entre otras modificaciones necesarias. Conversamos al respecto con Alejandro Robles, especialista en la materia.

Hasta hace muy poco, hablábamos con asombro de galaxias situadas a 500 o 600 millones de años después del Big Bang. Alguna excepción, a 350 millones de años luz del origen del Universo, parecía ser el límite infranqueable. Sin embargo, un equipo internacional de astrónomos acaba de confirmar el hallazgo de la galaxia más lejana jamás observada. Su nombre técnico es MoM-z14. Se trata de una galaxia que ya estaba allí, brillante y perfectamente formada, apenas 280 millones de años después del Big Bang. Es decir, en un Universo tan joven que, según las teorías vigentes, no habría tenido tiempo aún para que se formara algo así. En otras palabras, MoM-z14 es demasiado brillante, demasiado grande y químicamente demasiado compleja para estar allí. Los investigadores han teorizado que en ese universo temprano, denso y violento, se formaron Estrellas Supermasivas. Bestias cósmicas, que podrían tener entre 1.000 y 10.000 veces la masa de nuestro Sol, que vivirían muy poco tiempo, quemando su combustible a una velocidad frenética, y que por tanto serían capaces de "cocinar" cantidades ingentes de nitrógeno en un tiempo récord. Lo curioso es que en nuestra propia Vía Láctea, tenemos los cúmulos globulares, que son grupos de estrellas muy antiguas. Algunas de esas estrellas tienen, curiosamente, niveles de nitrógeno muy altos que nunca hemos sabido explicar bien. El estudio sugiere que ahora estamos viendo el mismo proceso, pero en directo.

"Si quieres ir al desierto, compra un Land Rover. Si quieres volver, compra un Toyota". Esta frase, que durante décadas ha circulado entre mecánicos, militares y exploradores en los rincones más inhóspitos de África y Australia, no es solo un chiste de barra de bar. Es la síntesis de una realidad que la marca británica ha intentado camuflar bajo capas de cuero premium, madera de nogal y una imagen de prestigio ligada a la Familia Real británica. Bienvenidos a una nueva entrega de nuestra serie “lo que las marcas no quieren que sepas”. Hoy vamos a desgranar los "trapos sucios" de Land Rover, una marca que parece haber perfeccionado el arte del "Síndrome de Estocolmo": te maltrata, te vacía la cuenta corriente, te deja tirado en la cuneta... pero la limpias, la miras y te vuelves a enamorar. 1. El Defender y la "Ergonomía del Potro de Tortura" Empecemos por el icono, el Defender clásico. Diseñado originalmente en 1948 para que un granjero pudiera llevar una oveja en el asiento del copiloto, su ergonomía ha permanecido casi inalterada durante casi 70 años. El problema no es solo que el volante esté descentrado respecto al asiento; es que el espacio para el conductor es inexistente. El asiento está tan pegado a la puerta que, si no conduces con la ventanilla bajada y el codo fuera, tu brazo izquierdo quedará atrapado contra tu propio costillar. 2. La Maldición de Lucas: "El Príncipe de las Tinieblas" Para entender los clásicos de la marca, hay que conocer a su proveedor eléctrico: Joseph Lucas. Durante décadas, el sistema eléctrico de estos coches fue el hazmerreír de la industria. Existe un chiste recurrente que pregunta: "¿Por qué los ingleses beben la cerveza caliente? Porque Lucas fabrica sus neveras". 3. El Range Rover P38 y el "Cerebro Mojado" En 1994, Land Rover intentó dar un salto tecnológico con la segunda generación del Range Rover, el P38. Fue un desastre de proporciones bíblicas. Fue su primer coche gestionado totalmente por electrónica, pero con tecnología inmadura. 4. El Freelander 1: El motor "Sándwich" y la IRD A finales de los 90, el Freelander fue un éxito de ventas, pero bajo el capó escondía el motor 1.8 gasolina Serie K. Este motor estaba construido por capas apretadas con pernos larguísimos que atravesaban todo el bloque. El problema es que los pernos se estiraban con el calor y las guías de la culata eran de plástico. 5. Los "Tres Amigos" del Discovery 2 Si tienes un Discovery 2, conoces a los "Tres Amigos". No son tus compañeros de rutas, sino tres luces amarillas (TC, HDC y ABS) que se encienden simultáneamente en el cuadro de mandos. Cuando esto ocurre, todas las ayudas electrónicas desaparecen. 6. La Caja de Cristal del Range Rover L322 En la era BMW, el Range Rover L322 era el epítome del lujo. Sin embargo, equipaba una caja de cambios de General Motors diseñada para coches mucho más ligeros. Land Rover cometió el error de afirmar que el aceite de la caja era “de por vida” (sealed for life). Como nada es eterno, hacia los 130.000 km la caja solía colapsar, desintegrando los discos de embrague o haciendo explotar el convertidor de par. Una factura de 4.000 euros esperaba siempre a la vuelta de la esquina. 7. La Ruleta Rusa del Cigüeñal (TDV6 y SDV6) Bajo el mandato de Ford, los Discovery 3 y 4 montaron los motores V6 diésel desarrollados con Peugeot/Citroën. Estos motores esconden un defecto oscuro y letal: debido a un fallo en los casquillos de bancada y la lubricación, el cigüeñal sufre fatiga de metal y se parte físicamente en dos. No hay aviso previo, no hay luz de aceite. 8. El Infierno del "Body Off" Para colmo, Land Rover diseñó sus coches modernos (Discovery 3/4 y Range Sport) de forma que el vano motor está tan apretado que casi cualquier reparación "sencilla" requiere separar la carrocería del chasis. ¿Quieres cambiar los turbos o la bomba de aceite? Paso 1: Levantar la cabina entera. 9. Los motores Ingenium y la Cadena "Tímida" En la actualidad, bajo Tata Motors, los problemas no han desaparecido. Los motores Ingenium diésel de 2.0 litros tienen la cadena de distribución en la parte trasera, pegada a la caja de cambios. Si la cadena se estira (un fallo común), hay que sacar el motor entero para cambiarla. Además, sufren de dilución de aceite: el gasoil extra inyectado para limpiar el filtro de partículas termina en el cárter, degradando el aceite y provocando la rotura prematura de turbos y casquillos. Conclusión ¿Odio a Land Rover? En absoluto. Me encantan. Un Land Rover tiene algo que un Toyota o un Mitsubishi jamás tendrán: carisma. Cuando funcionan, son los mejores coches del mundo. Pero no son para todo el mundo. Son coches para quienes entienden que la excelencia y el lujo británico requieren un sacrificio constante.

Luis Landero, contador de historias, cede la palabra a siete personajes, atrapados en un hotel rural durante el temporal de nieve que dejó aislado a media España. Sin posibilidad de conexión con el exterior, sin televisión o móviles, pero con las necesidades básicas cubiertas, contar historias parece la única manera de matar el aburrimiento durante la sobremesa. Solo dos de ellos se conocen de antemano. El narrador omnisciente que introduce la obra pronto desaparece y cede el protagonismo a los personajes. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1 Did God Really Say? The question sounds innocent enough. Almost helpful. “Did God really say…?” It doesn’t sound like rebellion. It sounds like curiosity. Like someone double-checking the fine print. That’s how temptation often works. Rather than kicking the door down. It knocks politely. The serpent doesn’t start by denying God. He starts by reframing God. He takes something God said clearly and bends it just enough to make God seem unreasonable. Restrictive. Suspicious. Suddenly, the problem isn’t disobedience—it’s whether God can be trusted at all. That question still works today. “Did God really say that… about sex? About money? About forgiveness?” “Would a loving God really care?” “Isn’t that a little outdated?” The doubt sounds modern and thoughtful. But underneath it is the same old lie: God might not be as good as he says he is. And if we're honest, we’ve listened. We’ve assumed we know better. We’ve trusted our instincts more than God’s Word. And the result hasn’t been freedom. It’s been guilt, broken relationships, and a quiet sense that something isn’t right. That’s what sin does. It promises more and delivers less. What’s striking is what God does next. He doesn’t disappear. He doesn’t give up on humanity because they doubted him. Instead, he keeps speaking. He keeps acting. He keeps moving toward the people who just moved away from him. The entire Bible is God answering the serpent’s question. And the clearest answer is Jesus. Jesus shows us what God is really like. He doesn’t withhold good—he gives himself. He doesn’t manipulate—he sacrifices. At the cross, God proves once and for all that he is not holding out on us. He's giving everything to rescue us. So, when you hear that question—Did God really say? —listen closely to God’s answer. The answer is, ‘Yes.’ He really does say, “You can trust me.” Prayer: Lord God, I confess how easily I doubt your Word and goodness. Forgive me for trusting myself more than you.
