This week, Jake and Bob conclude their series on confession with Fr. John Horn and explore the root system behind two deadly sins: sloth (acedia) and lust. Through personal examples, they uncover the deeper attitudes, fears, and wounds that drive these struggles and keep us from intimacy with God. They also discuss how self- reliance, discouragement, and isolation can distort our desires and lead us away from the freedom God offers us through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.    Key Points: Virtue grows when our desires are reordered toward God through love rather than fear. Sloth, or acedia, is often misunderstood as just laziness. It can also manifest as overactivity, restlessness, and self-reliance. Discouragement is frequently rooted in the belief that we must transform ourselves without God's help. The remedy for acedia begins with surrendering control and accepting poverty of spirit. Lust reflects a deeper attempt to satisfy desires apart from God. Shame, hopelessness, and a lack of purpose often lie beneath struggles with lust. Confession becomes more fruitful when we bring our underlying attitudes and beliefs rather than only our behaviors. The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores communion with God, ourselves, the Church, and others. Hansel Zapiain, con más de 16 años de experiencia en estrategia y logística y actual Head of External Fulfillment Growth en Amazon México, explica cómo este sistema permite escalar operaciones de forma más simple y eficiente. Easy Ship nace como una alternativa para vendedores que quieren aprovechar la red logística de Amazon sin enviar su inventario a los centros de fulfillment. El modelo es directo: el vendedor mantiene sus productos donde quiera, y cuando se genera una venta, se encarga de empaquetar y etiquetar el pedido, mientras Amazon gestiona la recolección y la entrega al cliente final. Según Hansel, "Easy Ship le permite a un vendedor aprovechar toda la cadena de suministro y toda la red logística de Amazon, sin necesidad de tener que enviar su inventario a ningún centro logístico". Este enfoque reduce barreras operativas y permite a más vendedores acceder a entregas rápidas sin grandes inversiones iniciales. He knew his death was coming. He had fought the good fight. He had finished the race. He had kept the faith. So, what final instruction did he give to Timothy? “Preach the word.” Paul did not tell him to preach what people wanted to hear. He did not tell him to follow the mood of the crowd. In fact, Paul warned that the time would come when people would not put up with sound doctrine. They would gather teachers who told them what their itching ears wanted to hear. That warning still matters. God’s Word is not always popular. Sometimes it corrects us. Sometimes it rebukes us. Sometimes it exposes sins we would rather excuse. But the same Word that wounds our pride also heals our souls. It shows us our sin, and then it shows us our Savior. That is why Paul says to preach it “with great patience and careful instruction.” God’s Word is not a weapon for winning arguments. It is the voice of Christ calling sinners to repentance, forgiveness, faith, and life. You may not be a pastor like Timothy. But you still need this Word. You need it when your heart wants comfortable lies instead of saving truth. You need it when the world calls evil good and good evil. You need it when you are tired, tempted, afraid, or ashamed. Si es así, prepárate para cambiar tu forma de ver la mecánica. En este vídeo analizamos a fondo el "híbrido en serie", un sistema que funciona completamente al revés de lo que estamos acostumbrados y que, para muchos expertos, es la mejor opción de movilidad actual. El concepto: Un híbrido diseñado "al revés" Cuando pensamos en un híbrido, solemos imaginar el sistema clásico (en paralelo o combinado). En él, un motor térmico de ciclo Atkinson trabaja de forma conjunta con un motor eléctrico mediante un complejo engranaje planetario. El híbrido en serie toma un camino radicalmente distinto: aquí el motor de combustión no tiene ninguna conexión mecánica con las ruedas. Cero. Many people carry a distorted picture of God, and that picture quietly shapes how they live, pray, and trust. Jesus told the story of the Prodigal Son to cut through every misconception and show us exactly what God is like. Through a father who runs to meet his returning son, we see that God's love is constant, unshakable, and never fails, whether we are at our best or our worst. Sin always costs more than we expect, hurts more people than we anticipate, and lasts longer than we planned. Coming back to God is not complicated, but it is honest. It requires turning back toward Him, confessing sin, humbling ourselves, and trusting His response. The story also reminds us that distance from God is not always physical. Sometimes the farthest hearts are the ones that never left the building. The real older brother in this story is Jesus Himself, who left heaven, lived a sinless life, and gave everything so that anyone who has wandered can find their way home. You wave your arms. You shout. You call. You do everything you can to stop him. But instead of listening, he laughs at you. Then he tells others you are crazy. You would not keep warning him because you like being ignored. You would continue to warn him because you love him. The prophet Jeremiah knew what it was like to have people ignore his warning. God had given him a message for his people. Danger was coming. Their sin was not harmless. Their idolatry, unbelief, and refusal to listen to the Lord were leading them toward destruction. God sent Jeremiah to turn them from sin and turn them back to him. But they would not listen. They mocked Jeremiah. They hated his message. They beat him and put him in stocks. Jeremiah was exhausted and heartbroken. His grief was not just because people mistreated him. His grief came from love. He could see the danger clearly, but the people he loved were blind to it. At one point, Jeremiah wanted to stop speaking. But he could not. God's Word was like a fire in his bones. In Jeremiah’s suffering, we hear an echo of someone greater. Jesus came as the perfect Prophet, the very Word of God in human flesh. He warned sinners. He exposed hypocrisy. He called people to repentance. He wept over Jerusalem because they did not recognize the time of God’s coming. And they rejected him, too. They mocked him. They beat him. They nailed him to a cross. But Jesus did more than warn us about judgment. He stepped under the judgment our sins deserved. He died for our stubbornness, blindness, unbelief, and sin. Then he rose to give us forgiveness, life, and certain deliverance. God does not give up on sinners. Through his Word calls us to turn from sin and turn to him. He drives us to Christ, where mercy is full and free. He held on to Jeremiah. He holds on to you. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for warning me in love and saving me by grace. El Banco de España ha elevado a 750.000 el número de viviendas que faltan en nuestro país y ha advertido de que la situación empeorará. Summary Dr. Michael Easley continues his study through Ephesians by examining Paul's command to "walk away" from the old life. While believers are called to walk worthy of their calling in Christ, they are also called to leave behind the mindset and lifestyle that once defined them. Paul reminds the Ephesian believers—and every Christian—that life apart from Christ is marked by darkened understanding, spiritual ignorance, hardened hearts, and an increasing callousness toward sin. Rather than simply modifying behavior, the Christian life requires a transformed mind through the power of the Holy Spirit. No amount of willpower can produce lasting spiritual change. Only God's Spirit, working through His Word, can renew believers from the inside out. Easley explains that sin is always deceptive, promising satisfaction while leaving people trapped in an endless cycle of craving more. Whether through lust, greed, addiction, or selfish ambition, sin never delivers what it promises. The good news is that believers are no longer defined by who they once were. Because of Christ, they have learned a new way of living. Paul urges Christians to lay aside the old self, renew the spirit of their minds, and put on the new self created in God's righteousness and holiness. Remembering where we've come from should never produce shame, but gratitude that Christ has completely transformed our identity. Christians are called not only to walk worthy of Christ but also to walk away from the sinful life they once lived. Spiritual transformation begins with a renewed mindset, not merely improved behavior. A hardened and calloused heart slowly loses sensitivity to God's truth and conviction. Sin always promises satisfaction but creates an insatiable appetite that only leads to deeper bondage. The Holy Spirit—not human determination—is the source of lasting spiritual change. How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye.” Matthew 7:3–5It is easy to judge another. A certain satisfaction comes from it; otherwise, one would not engage in such an action. In fact, every sin we commit brings with it a certain degree of satisfaction. Of course, the satisfaction is purely emotional, passing, disordered, and ultimately very destructive to our souls. A judgmental heart presumes the worst about another's words or actions. The Catechism of the Catholic Church warns against rash judgment as an offense against truth (CCC 2477). We commit this sin when we assume, without sufficient evidence, the moral fault of another. This often manifests as gossip, detraction, or slander. While gossip may sometimes involve truth, it becomes sinful when it harms another's reputation without a just cause. Detraction needlessly exposes another's real faults, while slander distorts the truth and spreads falsehood. Each of these acts flows from a heart that finds disordered satisfaction in condemning rather than in mercy.Every time we judge another unfairly—whether through interior criticism or public condemnation—we fall into this sin. To remedy this, we must examine our motivations. Sin is deceptive, especially to the one who commits it. The sin of judging another is particularly insidious because it often feels justified, even appearing as a moral obligation. This was the sin of the scribes and Pharisees. They judged others, interpreting the Law of Moses through their rigid traditions rather than true righteousness. Their self-righteousness convinced them they were acting in God's name. But they were blinded by pride, which not only harmed others but also endangered their souls. A judgmental heart is difficult to overcome. Doing so requires shedding disordered feelings and hurts and turning to the light of God's Wisdom. This will hurt because we must admit our sin. When another's words or actions offend us, it is even harder to face our own sin first. Jesus makes it clear, however, that unless we first remove the “wooden beam” in our own eye, we cannot remove the “splinter” in another's. The only way to remove the wooden beam in our own eye is to grow in the virtue of mercy. We must love every sinner—especially those who have harmed us—to such a degree that every passion of our soul is transformed by mercy. With our minds, we must perceive and embrace God's truth about mercy, and with our wills, we must choose it. Only when we do so over and over again—forming a habit, or virtue—will our passions align with mercy. The good news—for us and for those we tend to judge—is that when the virtue of mercy permeates not only our minds and wills but also our feelings and passions, we begin to discover freedom from the disordered satisfaction that trapped us in our judgmental hearts. From there, enlightened by God's wisdom and grace, we will be able to lovingly, compassionately, and sincerely help others see the error of their ways—not by judging and condemning them, but by loving them and guiding them toward the same freedom in Christ. Reflect today on any sinful habits you struggle with, especially a judgmental heart. Do you ever feel justified in your judgment of others? Is there a degree of disordered satisfaction you gain from that sin? Humble yourself before God's mercy if these questions challenge you, and don't be afraid to acknowledge the wooden beam in your eye. Beg for freedom from a judgmental spirit and embrace the far greater gift of mercy. Though challenging, such an exercise is ultimately freeing and will enable you to assist those who need God's mercy the most. Most merciful God, I come before You and humbly acknowledge my struggle with a judgmental heart. When I am hurt or offended, I am tempted to lash out, condemn, and presume the worst of others. But You, O Lord, see all things with perfect wisdom and mercy. Please free me from this sin, purify my heart, and transform me into an instrument of Your love and compassion. May I judge no one apart from Your Truth and Justice, and may I always extend the mercy that I myself long to receive. The 10 Commandments E13 — We've arrived at the 10th and final commandment, which feels very different from all the ones that came before it: “Do not desire … anything that belongs to your neighbor.” While most translations use the word “covet,” we simply find khamad, which is the general Hebrew word for desire. All the other commandments involve observable actions, but desire is entirely internal. So why does God warn us about desiring things that belong to our neighbor?
