Handshake Speakeasy seems to be everywhere these days, from starring in commercials for 1800 Tequila to being named the number one bar in the world. For anyone visiting Mexico City, missing the chance to have a drink at this acclaimed bar can inspire some serious FOMO.But its success was far from inevitable. It took years of starts, stops, and setbacks to finally get Handshake off the ground. Once it opened, however, the response was immediate. The bar offered something distinctly different from the cocktail destinations that had come before it in Mexico City, and its arrival helped further cement CDMX as one of the world's most exciting drinking destinations.Co-owners Eric and Rodrigo join Adam on this episode of The Buildout to tell the story of how Handshake Speakeasy came to be.Follow us: https://www.instagram.com/buildoutpodcastHandshake Speakeasy: https://www.instagram.com/handshake_barEric van Beek: https://www.instagram.com/ericvanbeek.carinoRodrigo Urraca: https://www.instagram.com/rurracaVinePair: https://www.instagram.com/vinepairHosted by VinePair Co-Founder: https://www.instagram.com/adamteeterProduced and edited by: https://www.instagram.com/dolldoctor Hosted on Acast. Tequila...The guys talk flock cameras. Ultimate frisbee injuries, electric fences and animals. We get into the weeds on weed and other drugs as well.https://linktr.ee/FromBehindTheBarcast
It's really the only way to cope with the trade deadline. Lots to cover in this super-sized episode, only partly fueled by very delicious (organic!) tequila. The big news was supposed to be Tarik Skubal, for which Patti doesn't fault the LAD, she faults everyone else. The gut punch was once and forever Adley to BOS, which sets up all sorts of interesting co-host dynamics for AL East games to come. But the rest of baseball continues – Nasim can't stop stealing bases and Kaz stole his first. Ivan has more bruises than you'd expect and Daylen needs a lecture on what “old-school' really means. Salvy is just the best. You can now use “ultimate grand slam” with confidence, and explain WRC+ to friends and family. Patti is ready to defend scooters as a component of multimodal transportation and not a “sport” to the Giants if necessary. Pottymouth welcomes the start of the inaugural WPBL season. Please read this piece on Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve – problematic but an excellent conversation starter. And one of your hosts finds the idea of push-up sushi in a ballpark pretty compelling. We say, “Chahge ya cah in Bah Hahbah,” “You can't just randomly stop paying me because I was out on a scooter at 2am,” and “Transphobic with a Barbie smile.” Fight the man, go see some live baseball, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com.

“You just do it by the old way. It's not difficult. It's not fast, but it's not difficult. If we make it fast, you have to correct a lot of things. When you give the real time for a distillation, you get all the flavors. Give it the time, the real time that it needs to make it.” That's Alvaro Fernandez, founder of El Acabo Raicilla and Asil Raicilla de la Sierra. We profile those brands — and talk about the Raicilla denomination of origin — in this episode of Agave Road Show! Agave Road Show is an advertorial podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand specific brands of agave spirits. Sometimes other Mexican spirits. Really, whatever they pay us to profile. This episode is hosted by Lou Bank with special guest Linda Sullivan of seynasecreto with tons of quotes from Alvaro Fernandez and Fausto Romero from Taberna Tres Gallos, makers of El Acabo Raicilla and Asil Raicilla de la Sierra! Tread Perilously's Summer Grab Bag concludes with the penultimate episode of Tequila and Bonetti: "Brooklyn and the Beast." When a local news van prevents Bonetti, Garcia, and Tequila from apprehending a group of fleeing jewel thieves, Bonetti arrests the reporter, an obvious Geraldo Rivera pastiche. When he pays fine and leaves the South Coast squad room, he claims Tequila bit him and looks into the reason Bonetti left New York. The pressure only mounts when a woman is killed next to the reporter during an apparent drive-by and the gun is traced back to Bonetti. Justin declares this episode to be the most racist Tequila and Bonetti episode of all. Old characters return, suggesting to Erik that this was meant to be the season finale. He also offers some notes on the recent version of The Odyssey. Tony Plana makes a surprise appearance as the would-be Geraldo Rivera. Michael Douglas returns once more to destroy his own life via horniness. Both Erik and Justin end up deep in the weeds with discussions about Castle Rock and more. Mariska Hargitay continues to be the most dignified actor in the ensemble. The pair's Bonetti impression turns into a certain stand-up comedian's self-caricature and Bonetti's Cadillac looks like it needs to be detailed.
Tequila and Champagne: Love Bombing Revisited — True Malice, Trauma Responses, or Pop-Psychology Misdiagnosis? Is fast-paced affection a dangerous red flag or just hyper-enthusiasm? This week on Tequila and Champagne, George and Shae Laraun revisit one of the most talked-about topics in modern relationship dynamics: Love Bombing. We're peeling back the layers of pop-psychology buzzwords to dissect the actual psychological and sociological root causes of intense early-stage relationships. From its historical origins in cult recruitment to modern dating dynamics, we look at whether love bombing is always driven by malicious control or if it's often an anxious attachment style overcompensating for a fear of abandonment. Plus, we break down how love bombing presents differently in men vs. women, how dopamine withdrawal affects victims after the "comedown," and how to tell if social media has ruined harmless gestures of affection. In this episode:

Sebastian breaks down his Father's Day weekend in Austin, highlighted by a questionable online knife-shopping purchase. Then, the guys debate a serious party faux pas: is it ever okay to have your own personal booze delivered to a party where you're just a guest? Plus, existential dread hits the show as they argue over how to answer heavy questions like "What keeps you up at night?" (Sebastian loves the vulnerability and Pete hates it). Finally, Pete complains about the overuse of the word "amazing," fears barefoot summer concert musicians, and questions the etiquette of asking a friend where the free tickets actually are. Love, Laughter & Absolute Mayhem In Mexico. What was supposed to be a romantic birthday and anniversary getaway to Cancun quickly turned into one unforgettable adventure! We take you behind the scenes of our week in paradise—from arriving during the infamous sargassum season (trust us... don't make our mistake!) to discovering that Mother Nature had other plans for our beach vacation. Thankfully, our incredible swim-up suite at BlueBay Esmeralda Resort saved the trip, and SnowWhite90210 immediately claimed it as her royal palace. Of course, no vacation with us would ever be normal. Between fearless iguanas, adorable baby raccoons, one very determined mama raccoon that seemed convinced SnowWhite90210 was dinner, and our endless debates over French fries versus French cuisine, you'll hear every hilarious moment exactly as it happened. We relive our spectacular candlelit dinner on the beach complete with tiki torches, crashing waves, rose petals, chocolate-covered strawberries, a surprise "Te Amo" bedroom setup... and why one of us completely ruined the romantic ending by falling asleep. We also share our favorite moments exploring Cancun, relaxing at an incredible jungle spa, discovering crystal-clear lagoons, watching traditional Mexican performances, dancing through an epic foam party, surviving a hilarious beer-drinking competition (that one of us actually won!), and why golf carts became our favorite form of VIP transportation. Then photographer Simone Sartori with Photo Factory Cancun Photography reunites with us for a stunning sunset magazine photo shoot that creates some of our favorite images we've ever taken together while celebrating another year of love. Just when we thought our adventure was over... everything changed. On our way home we discovered nearly 500,000 American Airlines miles had been stolen after hackers broke into our accounts, changed our email addresses, phone numbers and loyalty information while they continued redeeming points in real time as we desperately tried to stop them. We also talk about traveling internationally with SnowWhite90210, learning about Mexico's screw worm regulations, our favorite meals, the incredible people we met, and why this vacation reminded us that sometimes the biggest travel disasters create the funniest lifelong memories. Plus, we announce our upcoming Armenian Coffee Reading tour dates, share where you can meet us in person, introduce new podcast guests coming soon, and remind everyone why SnowBubu continues stealing hearts everywhere we go. Before science was invented, things were confusing. And, to be fair, for several decades into the birth of science, it was still confusing. Don't believe us? Check out Scientific American magazines from the late 1800s — especially this one article about scientists tasting Mezcal and Tequila for the first time. Agave Road Trip is a critically acclaimed, award-winning podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico. This episode is hosted by Lou Bank with special guest Linda Sullivan of seynasecreto. Episode Notes Read Scientific American, No. 1096,January 2, 1897, for the source of the epic quote in this episode: Not only does the maguey plant give the sap for the drink pulque, but its roots , distilled, yield much more powerful intoxicants, mescal and tequila. And the heart of another variety of the same plant is cut out, roasted and put through a process of distillation to make still another drink. Mescal is described as tasting like a mixture of gasoline, gin and electricity, Tequila is even worse, and is said to incite murder, riot and revolution. A very small quantity of tequila is a drink. Experts advise it to be taken with a grain of salt, literally — the salt to be placed on the tongue first. Several Michigan editors who lately visited the sister republic wandered into a "cantina" in the city of Puebla one evening and called for a drink apiece of the tequila. Each took a taste, felt his hair stand erect, his toes curl up and his skin wrinkle all over his body and was wise enough to leave the glass unfinished. Not one of them wished that time that Providence had endowed him with greater capacity. Shout outs this episode to Jeppson's Malort, Vienna Beef hot dogs, Cocktail MD Ryan Aycock, and Metsal inventor, Enrique Martinez!

Before You Build Your Brand, Build Your Self-Worth | Kristen Olson On The Expert Authority Coach podcast, Christine Blosdale interviews Kristen Olson, founder of KO Alliance and host of the Turmeric and Tequila podcast. Olson shares her journey from being a longtime athlete and D1 lacrosse player to starting a lacrosse business in Colorado, building sponsorships like Clif Bar, and formalizing her work connecting athletes and brands through strategic partnerships. She explains launching her podcast after seeing inauthenticity in health and wellness marketing and wanting to tell the truth. The conversation centers on women's self-worth and confidence in business, how environments and relationships can erode it, and why developing self-awareness and boundaries is critical - especially for young people navigating addictive, comparison-driven social media. Okay, for real, this episode is only vaguely about Raicilla. It's a bit more about profound justifications — that's a reference to a quote from my guest co-host, Shawn Miller of PKGD Group. He brings that quote up as we're talking about the white paper PKGD released a few weeks ago. That white paper is what this episode is really about. But who would listen to an episode titled, “The one about Shawn's white paper”? Agave Road Trip is a critically acclaimed, award-winning podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico. This episode is hosted by Lou Bank with special guest Shawn Miller of PKGD Group. Episode Notes Read “Built Right and Brought Right,” the white paper published by PKGD Group! I sat down with Josh (@joshwhu) — a football presenter from London who's been living his best life in Dallas for the FIFA World Cup — and we get into EVERYTHING. Tequila shots before recording, why he thinks American right-on-red turns are insane, culture shock stories, and a full celebrity guessing game where he had NO idea who half of America's icons are.I'm literally not OK.This one is chaotic, hilarious, and full of vibes.Trust me — you're going to want to send this to your group chat.Subscribe, leave a review, and comment your favorite British slang you learned from this episode

Tom Rinks got his start in the commission-only "shark tank" of midwestern furniture sales. That's where he learned what makes customers buy. Decades later, those instincts helped him grow a joke of a side hustle into a $400 million success. In 2009, he created the iconic branding for an obscure sun tan lotion, drawing on a mish-mash of surf culture, Scandinavian furniture, and Japanese streetwear. Sun Bum became a huge success, but even before that, Tom helped boost a wildly diverse range of brands: a line of tequila, a series of Christian videos, and the ubiquitous “Yo quiero Taco Bell” campaign. All were successful, though it took a prolonged legal battle for Tom to get paid for the Taco Bell chihuahua. In this episode, Tom reveals how he learned to manipulate consumer psychology, survive the brutal warfare of a stolen idea, and engineer a brand explosion on his own terms. WHAT YOU'LL LEARNChihuahuas and Apes: How the Right Mascot can Transform a Brand What it takes to survive a five-year legal battle against a corporate titan. The "Elvis Principle:” How combining unexpected design elements can create an unforgettable package The "Trojan Horse" Strategy: Why forcing retailers to buy a massive display creates the illusion of a brand overnight.TIMESTAMPS08:15 - What selling furniture taught Tom about customer psychology 10:00 - How the Slogan “Surf Michigan” got him into the T-shirt Business 25:07 - Psycho Chihuahua, Taco Bell, and the Branding Deal that Wasn't 33:49 - Inside the grueling battle over a chihuahua mascot. “I was the guy suing Taco Bell.” 39:35 - A dramatic legal verdict, and Tom's branding business takes off with fancy Tequila 49:47 - The sun screen opportunity: “I saw a gigantic hole that you could drive through.” 55:03 - How Tom and his partner came up with their “badass ape” logo 1:07:36 - Opening (fake) Sun Bum headquarters in Cocoa Beach, Fla 1:10:31- Early store displays and making the brand seem bigger than it was 1:14:56 - A $400M sale to SC Johnson, and Tom starts a new companyThis episode was researched by Katherine Sypher and Susannah Broun and produced by Casey Herman, with music by Ramtin Arablouei, and edited by Neva Grant.
