It’s been roughly twenty years since London-based Tunng crept onto the scene with their genre-defying and timeless “pagan folktronica” debut album — This Is… Tunng: Mothers Daughters and other Tales. To celebrate, the band will release their eighth studio album Love You All Over Again on Jan. 24, 2025 via Full Time Hobby. It’s a record brimming with crunchy textures, nods to renaissance folk, and (maybe) a dash of Simon & Garfunkel. Enjoy this first foray into the LP — “Didn’t Know Why.”

Acclaimed electronic musician, producer, and composer Philippe Cohen Solal and Mike Lindsay, the Mercury Prize-winning co-founder, composer, and producer of UK acid folk band Tunng, have united for a remarkable new album inspired by the life and work of visionary American writer/artist Henry Darger. This accidental discovery of the "American Vincent Van Gough" Henry Darger had a vision for the love and protection of children, that has remained almost unknown, but through his art and poetry will be seen as an inspiration for centuries. The tribute album is music created to the poems of Darger, and visuals from his paintings. Darger's work is as deep, and powerfull as a Homerian Epic poem, just as long, and full of as much beauty, philosophy, and stories. This interview is central around the mind and inspiration of a "Mad Genius" unknown artist, who had inscribed on his potters field headstone "Protector of Children". Never has there been another work around that topic in music. I am releasing this today April 12th Henry Darger's brithday. Prepare to be moved. youtube instagram twitter facebook

Erstaunlicherweise ist die Musik nicht nur düster. Es gibt zarte Streicherparts und elektronische Leichtfüssigkeit. Speech spoke to Becky very honestly and openly about her own experiences of grief in the wake of the very recent death of her brother Delroy. The Dead Club Podcast is an 8 part podcast series that brings to life British band, Tunng’s ground-breaking collaborative musical project, Dead Club: a meditation on loss and a riotous trip through life in all its goodness, oddness and wonder. We have interviewed people who have studied death, written about it, and documented it, but also those whose lives have touched it and have been close to it as well those for whom death is all in a day’s work. In this podcast series we’ll hear their voices. We’ll hear from Philosopher AC Grayling, author, Max Porter, illusionist, Derren Brown, musician Speech Debelle, author and palliative care Physician Kathryn Mannix, philosopher and writer Alain De Botton, poetry editor of the New Yorker, Kevin Young and Professor of Forensic Anthropology, Dame Sue Black.

Mic & Mixer still not reunited with a computer processor, so episode 71 is another music only episode. Also, no room made for the latest offerings from The Unthanks; Kathryn Williams; Royal Blood; Hidden Orchestra; Luca de Alberto & Penguin Café, all of which have merit, especially to my ears the Hidden Orchestra jazzy ambiance to bird sounds. Only one track in this episode is not a 2017 release from the last few weeks – and that's a rerelease of Bullion's 2007 work based on the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album. Of the albums selected to play a track here – my favourite album is the Sufjan Stevens collaboration. All are rather good with an “excellent” grading given by me to the Pumarosa; Anathema & Cigarettes After Sex albums. The episode ends with a track from the album of Dorothy Trogdon poems adapted for song by Diagrams, better known as the lead singer of Tunng, Sam Genders – I think this album deceptively good. BTW - The Unthanks album is of similar make-up in that it gives an airing to Nick Drakes mother, Molly's poems and songs. The episode image is of me in (19)71 - all hair and no substance! The tracks selected are listed below. Enjoy. Peter Tracks: 01. My Gruesome Loving Friend 4:03 Pumarosa The Witch Alternative 02. Race to the Bottom 3:42 Ha Ha Tonka Heart-Shaped Mountain Rock 03. When only six survivors remained, out of ammunition, a bayonet charge was conducted in which three of the six were killed. The remaining three wounded men were brought before the Mexican general, who allowed them to return to France as an honour guard for the body of Capitaine Danjou. The captain had a wooden hand which was stolen during the battle; it was later returned to the Foreign Legion and is now kept in a case in the Foreign Legion museum at Aubagne, and paraded annually on Camerone Day. For the last four years the festival has grown in size, bringing together a diverse selection of artists all influenced in some way by folk and roots music, from the percussive and hypnotic electronics of Steve Reid and Keiran Hebden to the sublime folk / blues explorations of folk-revival legends Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, with countless acoustic singer-songwriters. www.youarehear.co.ukhttp://www.myspace.com/youarehearFor this show, we have chosen to present highlights from the live sets of Nalle, Juana Molina and Tunng.Glasgow's Nalle comprise former members of the extended folk-improv-drone-jazz outfit Scatter, continuing and focussing many of the collective's preoccupations: drawing on traditional folksong, psychedelic minimalism, in a spirit of playful experimentation and structural freedom. The voice of Hanne, at once soothing and astringent, meshes with shruti box drones, wooden and straw percussion, viola, bouzouki, oud and other instruments yet more exotic to create a beautifully haunting and uncanny atmosphere.www.nalle.co.ukwww.pickled-egg.co.uk/nalleJuana Molina, an extraordinary singer-songwriter from Buenos Aires, whose graceful and hypnotic music, flows from her acoustic guitar, askew live electronics and her mesmerising voice. Formerly a celebrated TV comic in her native Argentina, she has released several albums since 1996, three of which have been released on Domino Records in the UK, the most recent being 'Son' from which much of her Green Man set was taken.www.juanamolina.comwww.myspace.com/juanamolinaTunng play a mesmerising mix of folk-influenced acoustic music and busy electronica, overlaying electronic crackles, vocal harmonies, bewitching mantras and synthetic rhythms. Their two albums on Static Caravan and their prolific touring schedule have gathered them a substantial following.www.tunng.co.ukwww.myspace.com/thisistunngEnter your email address:Delivered by FeedBurnerPodcast of the week Time Out London!! The gorgeous Chris Wood champions traditional new English and 'world' folk - please try to see him live if you can and pick up Albion. He is wonderful. Also the Smoke Fairies are doing the festival circuit in a big way this year so do try to catch them. Ah. Here comes the rain. 1. Brevity this day my loyal readers. A busted keyboard and little to prattle on about means that original text is at a premium and I shan't bother with the niceties. So welcome to 2008 and enjoy two hours of some selected tracks. Like a very special after school special I hope that we can all learn a very important lesson from what just happened. And so, drugs are bad (or at least expensive), you don't need friends like that, and, of course, time is precious. Oh so precious - I wouldn't read this verbiage I spew grab the tracks and go do something for christ's sake.Lets get started.1) Sargasso Trio - Heels on FireJust about perfect. And this is the stand out track of the ol' cast. buy2) The Field - Fall From A Height (Remix)Tied and Tickled Trio - Aelita 1The much ballyhooed Swedes in rough mix with the post jazz of the trio.3) B.C. Camplight - Soy Tonto!A masterful piece of eclecticity by a man I can really identify with.buy4) Lisa Portelli - A Mon MeubleI don't know French but I know what I like.5 ) Chromeo - Fancy FootworkThe best electro-pop funk educated 2 step duo since the 80's. 6) Vampire Weekend - Oxford CommaAnd their back for a second track. Less Paul Simon more lerft field.7) The Magnetic Fields - Three-WayThe opening track on their new album is this stellar piece of heavy drenched erotic propulsuion. buy8) Enon - Mirror on You  (site not epileptic safe) Need more noise and this time with lyrics? Another opening track.buy9) The Shermans - DumbheadLet's bring it down with this jangle pop series of insults.10) David Vandervelde - Nothin’ NoAnd let's bring in the fuzz with some psychedelic retrospective on the pressing interests of love.11) The Whitsundays - Sorry JamesLet us know put that to the task of age.12) Dr. Dog - Ain’t It StrangeTo close this set let's get a bit of Beatles-esque revival. Oh that is nice - a balm on the frazzled soul it is. 13) Tunng - BulletsIs it a narrative, a survivalist trope on the dangers of forgetting and trying? A rumination on loss and life? A spectacular folksie sing along? yes14) Steve Dawson - Fun Machine OneGet up and jig now. An open plain and ample night clothe this track and bring the guitar a quality of lyrical fire. 15) Miss Li - I’m Sorry, He’s Mine"And it started like love should. I tole him from my best friend." Doesn't get any straighter than that.16) Patrick and Eugene - Postcard From SummerisleOh that is nice piece of weird right there. Electronica can't do no wrong.17) Midnight Juggernauts - Dragonette's I Get Around (Remix) A solid bass bin kick is elemental to any good groove. The vocal samples with additional reworking takes the head bop and hand dance into pure pop infection territory.18) DJ Logic feat. Miri Ben-AriA very ambient track of Logic working with the instrumental hip hop violinist Ben-Ari. 19) Mandragora - La Cumparsita (Tango Christ Superstar)A re-working (orgaicmash-up, jazz riff, etc) of the Cumparsita with Jesus Christ Superstar's bassline. Encore!20) Hungry Marching Band - Gde Si BreThis lively outfit just did a show that I missed. My greatest regret of the year so far. Coincidentally how cool is the album name: "Portable Soundtracks for Temporary Utopias"? 21) Lou Reed - Perfect DayMr. Reed just keeps getting better and by the gods of if this track hasn't aged half as well as the rest than the geometrical growth of goodness shall soon outstrip the entire catalog of crooning whelps of the present day. Saccharine pop bullshit and all.22) Kerkko Koskinen - Sparkling ArsenicA whirlwind orchestral set of the ex-Ultra Bra-ist with the Umo Jazz Orchestra. Sounds like Yoko Kanno with a spy movie OST.23) Mariee Sioux - Wizard Flurry HomeHaunting and hurt - chills all around. But the warm instrumentation and rhythmic lyricism saves it from being a melancholic dirge or sap fest all to common in these tropes.24) Mekons - Dickie, Chalky and Nobbyoh I needed this.25) George Bush - ImagineDon't forget to register to vote people.26) Grails - Silk rdAnd this PDX track to give me a little room to breath before I go claustrophobic shit for brains insane on the closed in breathing that I feel when I think of the next 366 days.27) Emir Kusturica & No Smoking Orchestra - Who killed the D.J.Alas the song is too solid for the fog of memory to be contained in only by the original release and has spawned from the first the denizens of strange continents interjoined by oddity and inspiration.28) MC5 - Kick out the JamsJust what I needed to get the old blood sloshing around these old collapsed and bruised tubes to half aspirated ventricles and world weary capillaries. Join me now for the head long rush into what is bound to be a spectacular year.image from:Dick TracyBacking tracks:Band Of Horses - Is there a ghostBe Mine (Ocelot Mthrfckrs Remix)Pratique - Death for Blushing Roguemini mix nineDigitalism  - Idealism Xiu Xiu - I Do What I Want When I WantBlur - Country House
