THE DEATH OF CLODIUS AND THE REPUBLIC'S END Colleague Douglas Boin. Boin recounts the violent death of Clodius by rival gangs, marking a turning point toward the Republic's collapse. He views Clodia's subsequent disappearance from history as a symbol of the loss of women's influence and civic rights, framing her story as a cautionary tale about political violence. NUMBER 16

Lee Strobel is an American Christian author, apologist, speaker, and former investigative journalist who transitioned from an atheist investigative journalist into a leading Christian apologist and author, blending rigorous investigative methods with his faith journey to influence millions worldwide. Born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Strobel earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a Master of Studies in Law degree from Yale Law School; growing up in a nominally Christian but non-practicing household, he became a committed atheist who viewed Christianity as irrational until 1979, when his wife Leslie's conversion prompted a nearly two-year personal investigation into the historical evidence for Jesus. On November 8, 1981, at age 29, Strobel became a Christian, an experience he describes as “falling in love with Jesus” while interviewing scholars and examining ancient manuscripts. A 14-year veteran of The Chicago Tribune where he served as award-winning legal editor, Strobel earned Illinois' highest honors for investigative reporting and public service journalism from United Press International before pivoting full-time to Christian apologetics. He is a New York Times bestselling author of over 40 books and curricula—including the seminal The Case for Christ (1998), which has sold over 5 million copies—with total sales exceeding 18 million copies translated into 40 languages. His “Case for…” series, along with titles like The Case for Faith, The Case for Miracles, and The Case for Heaven, applies courtroom-style evidence to core doctrines. Strobel, currently serves as Founding Director of the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics at Colorado Christian University. He is described by The Washington Post as “one of the evangelical community's most popular apologists,” he has received multiple Gold Medallion Awards and the 2023 Pillar Award for History from the Museum of the Bible. Married to Leslie since 1973, Strobel is father to daughter Alison (novelist and homeschooling expert) and son Kyle (professor of spiritual theology at Biola University's Talbot School of Theology), and he continues to equip believers worldwide with intellectual tools to defend and share their faith effectively. To celebrate Melvyn Bragg's 27 years presenting In Our Time, five well-known fans of the programme have chosen their favourite episodes. Author and columnist Caitlin Moran has picked the episode on the English medieval mystic Margery Kempe and recorded an introduction to it. Margery Kempe (1373-1438) produced an account of her extraordinary life in a book she dictated, "The Book of Margery Kempe." She went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, to Rome and Santiago de Compostela, purchasing indulgences on her way, met with the anchoress Julian of Norwich and is honoured by the Church of England each 9th November. She sometimes doubted the authenticity of her mystical conversations with God, as did the authorities who saw her devotional sobbing, wailing and convulsions as a sign of insanity and dissoluteness. Her Book was lost for centuries, before emerging in a private library in 1934.This In Our Time episode was first broadcast in June 2016. The image (above), of an unknown woman, comes from a pew at Margery Kempe's parish church, St Margaret's, Kings Lynn and dates from c1375.WithMiri Rubin Professor of Medieval and Early Modern History at Queen Mary, University of LondonKatherine Lewis Senior Lecturer in History at the University of HuddersfieldAndAnthony Bale Professor of Medieval Studies at Birkbeck University of LondonProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:John H. Missing Sodder Children /// Part 1 /// 892Part 1 of 2 www.TrueCrimeGarage.comIn Fayetteville, West Virginia there once stood two billboards. Billboards announcing a mystery and asking for help. These billboards were up for decades, seeking answers. Passing motorists could easily see either as they wizzed by in their automobiles. This is the information from one of them. At the top was a simple announcement - “After thirty years it is not too late to investigate” Below this text, the billboard featured pictures of each of the five missing Sodder children - Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty. The text below the pictures read… On Christmas Eve 1945 our home was set afire and five of our children ages 5 through 14 kidnapped. The officials blamed defective wiring although lights were still burning after the fire started. The official report stated that the children died in the fire. However no bones were found in the residue and there was no smell of burning flesh during or after the fire. What was the motive of the law officers involved? What did they have to gain by making us suffer all of these years of injustice? Why did they force us to accept those lies? The New Yorker turned a hundred this year. And marking the occasion is a new documentary film on Netflix titled: “The New Yorker at 100”. But with some 5000 print issues, and ten decades worth of reporting, illustrating, and editing… where does one even begin? That's a question staff writer Jelani Cobb brought to the film's director, Marshall Curry, and executive producer, Judd Apatow, on an edition of The New Yorker Radio Hour that we're sharing this week. Fighter Pilot Survival: Kegan Gill's Battle Beyond the Battlefield In this extraordinary episode, Marcus and Melanie meet with retired U.S. Navy Fighter Pilot Kegan Gill, whose story is nothing short of miraculous. Kegan survived a catastrophic ejection from his aircraft during a training mission over the Atlantic Ocean, where he ejected directly into the sound barrier. The injuries he sustained in that moment were severe enough to kill most people – his limbs torn apart and a traumatic brain injury among them. But Kegan's ordeal was only beginning. Plunged into the icy waters of the Atlantic with his parachute still attached, his wetsuit torn, and his arms unable to move, Kegan was forced to endure a two-hour battle with hypothermia as rescue teams raced to find him. Miraculously, his hypothermic state prevented fatal blood loss. Following this harrowing experience, Kegan faced months of grueling recovery, eventually achieving a perfect Physical Fitness Test score and returning to flight duty. However, Kegan's journey didn't end with physical recovery. He began experiencing severe psychotic episodes due to his brain injury, leading to a stint in a VA Mental Health Facility. Pharmaceutical treatments only worsened his symptoms, and he endured dehumanizing treatment from caregivers who misunderstood his unique needs. Now, Kegan is finding renewed hope through alternative treatments for brain health. Through the Warrior Angels Foundation, he has discovered the power of nutraceutical and hormonal interventions, offering a glimmer of healing. Beyond his personal health battles, Kegan is a dedicated father and husband, working tirelessly to support his young family. Join us as Kegan opens up about his incredible journey of survival, resilience, and healing. His story is as inspiring as it is shocking – a testament to human strength and the will to overcome even the darkest of circumstances. Tune in to hear a story of grit, determination, and the relentless pursuit of healing against all odds. In This Episode You Will Hear: • When I was about 10 years old, my family had a friend that had a Cessna, and he took me up on this lawnmower with wings, and we went buzzing around, and it felt like a freakin' rocket ship. I absolutely loved being above the earth, and I felt so free. (6:36) • In May of 2012, I graduated as a winged aviator, and I got those wings pinned on my chest. (23:40) • [Marcus] It's an absolute transition into a different human being the minute those wings touch your chest. (24:02) • [In flight school] you showed up there, and you had your wings, and you thought you made it. They made it very clear you have not made anything yet. (26:40) • It just so happened on this day there was a 16 foot, 3,500 pound Great White Shark named Mary Lee directly under my airspace, and my buddy pointed out, “Hey man, Today would be a terrible day to eject,” and an hour after having that conversation, I found myself out on what turned into a pretty freaking wild experience. (36:23) • [Melanie] Q: Is it common to eject?” [Keegan] A: It happens more than you hear about in the news. We lose a few naval fighter jets every year to mishaps. (37:16) • When you show up at flight school, they say “Look to your left and look to your right. One of you is gonna have a serious mishap or be dead choosing this job. Are you sure you wanna be here?” (37:49) • You think you're invincible, and you don't really think anything of it. (38:04) • Keegan tells the detailed story of that fateful day. (Starting at 41:21) • When I punched out, I got the initial blast from the ejection seat, and then immediately impacted the sound barrier with my body. At that speed, the human body is not aerodynamic. (50:58) • The aircraft impacted the water so fast, it just vaporized. (52:50) • They ended up wheeling me in, and treated me for severe hyperthermia. They took my core body temperature. I was at 87 degrees. [Marcus] “That should've killed you.” (60:13) • One of the more senior guys takes me into his office and he goes: “Congratulations, Lieutenant Gill. If you can figure out how to get your body working again, we'll get you back in a Super Hornet. (68:14) • My brain was just not working the way it was supposed to from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). (75:04) • I had a deep sense of betrayal from all that thought I had served. To see the treatment, it seemed like everything I was fighting for was a joke. (89:53) • I've had a number of psychedelic-assisted therapies that have been really helpful. (95:54) • Ibogaine has been studied pretty thoroughly at this point. It's showing that it triggers neuro-regeneration. The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has brought joy and sparkle to Midtown Manhattan since the early 1930s. The annual festivities may seem steady and timeless but this holiday icon actually has a surprisingly dramatic history. Millions tune in each year to watch the tree lighting in a music-filled ceremony on NBC, and tens of thousands more will crowd around the tree's massive branches during the holiday season, adjusting their phones for that perfect holiday selfie. But the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is more than just decor. The tree has reflected the mood of the United States itself — through good times and bad. The first tree at this site in 1931 became a symbol of hope during the Great Depression. With the dedication of the first official Christmas tree two years later, the lighting ceremony was considered a stroke of marketing genius for the grand new “city within a city” funded by JD Rockefeller Jr. The tree has also been an enduring television star — from the early years in the 1950s with Howdy Doody to its upgrade to prime time in the 1990s. Join Greg Young for this festive holiday history featuring kaleidoscopic lighting displays, painted branches, whirling snowflakes, reindeer and a very tiny owl. ** This episode originally aired in December 2021. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! Built in 1765 by British officer Roger Morris, the Morris-Jumel Mansion was never meant to be anything more than a quiet summer retreat. But more than 250 years later, that plan has clearly failed. Today, the mansion stands as Manhattan's oldest surviving house—and one of its most haunted. Over the centuries, the home has hosted some of the most powerful figures in American history, including George Washington and Aaron Burr. It's also been the backdrop for scandalous love affairs, whispered conspiracies, possible murders, and Revolutionary War intrigue. With that much emotional intensity packed into one place, it's no surprise that many believe some residents never truly left. Vincent Carbone has spent years exploring the strange activity inside the Morris-Jumel Mansion. From shadow figures and unexplained footsteps to spirits believed to be tied to former occupants, Vincent breaks down why this historic home continues to attract both historians and ghost hunters alike. Is the mansion haunted by those who loved, fought, and died within its walls—or by something far darker that feeds on centuries of unrest? This is Part Two of our conversation. #MorrisJumelMansion #TheGraveTalks #HauntedManhattan #ParanormalHistory #HauntedAmerica #TrueGhostStories #HistoricHauntings #RevolutionaryWarGhosts #HauntedNYC #RealParanormal Love real ghost stories? In this episode of History's Mysteries, we're diving into one of the bloodiest and most debated events in early modern Europe: the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre. Thousands of French Protestants were brutally murdered in August 1572, after what was supposed to be a royal wedding that symbolized peace. Historians have argued for centuries about who was responsible — and today, we're asking the big question: Did Catherine de Medici order it? This episode blends historical analysis, feminist storytelling, and intuitive tarot reading to look at Catherine de Medici not as a caricature, but as a complex political operator navigating power, survival, and legacy in a brutal era. Send me a DM here (it doesn't let me respond), OR email me: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comThis is the 23rd episode feature of the CKLN Mind Control Radio Series that will be airing on all my channels. These lectures, interviews, and presentations are some of the most important documentations on mind control that you will find. This series is extremely difficult to find online and has stood the test of time since 1997 when it aired on CKLN Radio. I will be airing this series over the next couple months for 'Movie Night'. If you listen to this entire series, it'll tremendously help your understanding of MK ULTRA and trauma-based mind control. You will hear from renowned experts, advocates, educators, therapists, survivors, whistleblowers, and researchers who helped pave the way for where we are today. Much of the information you have heard in this series has been suppressed over the years, and some of it may be slightly outdated due to being ahead of it's time. Please pay attention and treat this like going to class - it's a series unlike anything you'll ever hear and I'm grateful to be able to bring this series back to life! Enjoy (and take copious notes!).-----------------------------------------------------------------------Don Gillmor - History of Government & Military in Modern Day Mind ControlThis is actually our last show in our radio series on mind control which has been running almost a year now on this time slot. Today we are going to be finishing off the series with a discussion on government and military mind control. Last week we had a panel on the ritual abuse aspects of mind control, and this week we are focusing on the history of government in developing mind control. I am joined in the studio by Don Gillmor who is the author of "I Swear By Apollo" one of the original books to come out about Dr. Ewen Cameron and the experiments that were done at McGill University in Montreal. We are going to be taking phone calls for this show and you can direct comments or questions to Don or myself. We are going to introduce what we are going to talk about. -----------------------------------------------------------------------Wayne Morris and the International Connection Radio Show are proud to deliver the entire nine-month series in this rare exclusive format. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.” John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Luke 24:40-43 – When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence. 1 Timothy 1:1 – Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope. Titus 2:11-13 – For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
【 What We Talked About】 How can a tiny garden—barely a third of a city block—spark political battles in New York, make headlines in the New York Times, and rally celebrities like Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to its defense? In November 2025, just days after Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race but before he could take office, outgoing Mayor Eric Adams signed an executive order permanently designating Elizabeth Street Garden as parkland—a move widely seen as a "political poison pill." The fate of this garden reflects a core tension in urban governance, not just in New York but across America: Should we build more housing, or protect existing communities? And who gets to decide the future of a neighborhood? In this episode, we're joined by Yuxiang Luo, an urban planner based in New York, to explore ten years of controversy surrounding a single community garden—and the invisible power struggles that shape New York City politics. Yuxiang has previously appeared on two episodes about New York: "Why Is Housing in New York So Expensive?" and "Why Is the New York Subway So Run-Down?", both available on our sister podcast Mo Electives (选修课). We encourage you to check them out and follow that show. This Week on the UKC Hunting Ops Podcast... The holidays are a time for slowing down, spending time with family, and reflecting on where we've been. Over the next few weeks, the UKC Hunting Ops Podcast is doing just that by revisiting some favorite episodes from our early days. This week, Allen is sharing one of his personal picks and taking us all the way back to Episode 3 - a reminder of where it all began. In this early episode, Allen and UKC Vice President Todd Kellam are joined by Todd Morgan, one of the original UKC Beagle Program Managers. It's a conversation from the early days of the podcast, filled with perspective, experience, and the voices of those who helped shape the program in its formative years. Listening back offers a chance to reflect on the roots of UKC's hunting programs and the people who were there at the beginning. It's a simple look back at an earlier chapter - and a reminder of how far we've come since then. We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane. In this episode, I walk through the truth about Islamic teaching, the cross, the Crusades, and the growing hostility toward Christianity in today's world. This isn't a political message. It isn't anger. It isn't an attack on people. It is a clear and honest look at history, doctrine, culture, and the unmatched hope found only... Christian scholar Dr. Tim Larsen joins the show to explain the real origins of the Christmas traditions we hold dear today—from Santa Claus and reindeer to ornaments and the December 25th date itself. He debunks the persistent myth that Christmas is a pagan holiday, explores how centuries of tradition shaped modern celebrations, and helps separate historical fact from popular fiction. And yes—we settle the age-old question: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Dr. Timothy Larsen is a Professor of History at Wheaton College in Illinois and the president of the American Society of Church History. His scholarly expertise is the Victorian era, the period that has done so much to shape our Christmas celebrations today, and he is an expert on Christmas. He is the author or editor of over twenty books, including Twelve Classic Christmas Stories: A Feast of Yuletide Tales and The Oxford Handbook of Christmas.
University of Michigan law professor David Moran never planned to spend his career freeing the wrongfully convicted. But after handling several appeal cases that exposed deep flaws in the system, he realized how widespread the problem really was. In 2009, he co-founded the Michigan Innocence Clinic, which has since helped free more than 45 people. Moran joins Lindsay to discuss how the West Memphis Three case reflects the patterns he's seen across wrongful convictions, why prosecutors sometimes pursue cases built on faulty evidence, and whether the justice system is finally learning from its mistakes.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! The greatest energy source for civilization before the steam engine was wind. It powered the global economy in the Age of Sail. Wind-powered sail ships made global shipping fast and cheap by harnessing free, reliable ocean winds to propel large cargo loads over vast distances without needing fuel or frequent stops. It also powered windmills, the factories of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Windmills allowed for abundant bread by milling flour by turning heavy grindstones with wind-driven sails. They also powered trip hammers to forge iron and steel by lifting and dropping massive weights. We can credit them as well for pumped water, sawed timber, and processed oils, spices, and paper. Wind is one of most elemental yet overlooked forces shaping our world today, and it is at the center of the human story. Many times it changed history – such as “Protestant Wind” saving England from the Spanish Armada, kamikaze winds halting the Mongol invasions of Japan, and easterlies carrying Chernobyl’s fallout. Wind also powers massive turbines today, but there was a forgotten moment in the 1880s when we could’ve chosen wind power over fossil fuels. It even creates certain types of civilizations. Some historians believe the cleverest and most civilized people lived in places where weather was varied and posed constant challenges. Today’s guest is Simon Winchester, author of “The Breath of the Gods: The History and Future of the Wind.” We look at how wind—life‐giving and destructive, chaotic and harnessable — has shaped civilization from antiquity to today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
How did a podcast about the rosary beat out Joe Rogan? What actually is the rosary, and why can all Christians grow spiritually from praying with it? It's probably fair to say at this point that Wolverhampton Wanderers are as dead as a dodo. Two points from 17 games and staring relegation right down the barrel. #MorrisJumelMansion #TheGraveTalks #HauntedManhattan #ParanormalHistory #HauntedAmerica #TrueGhostStories #HistoricHauntings #RevolutionaryWarGhosts #HauntedNYC #RealParanormal Love real ghost stories?
