In this episode of The Retreat Leaders Podcast, Shannon sits down with Kim DeMoss - Retreat Ranch's Executive Assistant, Yoga Teacher Training host, and long-time retreat collaborator - to talk about what it's really like to experience retreats from both sides: hosting and supporting. From her early days hosting retreats with Shannon to now managing the logistics behind the scenes, Kim shares candid insights on burnout, boundaries, work-life balance, and how she found her groove in the retreat industry. They also dive into the digital evolution of the industry - how AI and online visibility are reshaping the way leaders must market their retreats - and why self-awareness is key to finding your place in this ever-changing landscape. Whether you're leading retreats, supporting them, or figuring out which role fits best, this episode will give you real-world perspective, practical advice, and a reminder that your version of success doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Key Takeaways Retreat leadership has many layers — and not everyone is meant to be front and center. Supporting retreats can be just as fulfilling as leading them (and sometimes less stressful). Work-life balance matters — especially for women juggling careers, families, and personal growth. The retreat industry is evolving fast with AI and digital marketing — adapt or find your unique niche. Attracting the right participants is key to creating aligned, transformational retreat experiences. Streamlining your focus can lead to more fulfillment and sustainable success. So often in our daily interactions—at work, at home, and even with strangers—we slip into automatic judgment without even noticing it. In this episode of The Inner Edge, Janet invites you to pause before reacting and explore one of the most quietly transformative leadership practices available to all of us: choosing curiosity instead of judgment.Drawing from her bicultural upbringing in Greece and the United States, Janet shares how being immersed in multiple cultural worlds from a young age shaped her understanding that there is never just one “right” way to see things. Through warm storytelling and reflective insight, she explores how our socialization, backgrounds, and lived experiences shape the lenses we carry—and how embracing multiple truths can expand our leadership, deepen our relationships, and open pathways for connection in an increasingly divided world. In this episode:✅ Why our brains are wired for snap judgments and how to interrupt them✅ The power of pausing before labeling someone as difficult or wrong✅ How curiosity reduces conflict and strengthens trust in teams✅ How disagreements can become opportunities to learn✅ Why honoring multiple truths expands both personal growth and leadership✅ A simple challenge to shift one relationship from judgment to curiosityAbout Janet Ioli:Janet Ioli is a globally recognized executive advisor, coach, and leadership expert with over 25 years of experience developing leaders in Fortune 100 companies and global organizations. She created The Inner Edge—a framework, a movement, and a message that flips leadership from mere success performance to presence; from ego to soul. In this episode of Retire in Texas, Darryl Lyons and PAX Financial Advisor Greyson Hanna take listeners through the emotional, practical, and behavioral realities that business owners face when preparing to transition out of their companies. Drawing on years of advising entrepreneurs - and personal experience from a family of business owners - Darryl explains why selling a business is far more than a financial transaction. They break the conversation into the six phases of PAX Financial Group's business transition process: Phase Zero: Understanding the Owner and Spouse, including personal history, sacrifices, communication styles, and behavioral tools like the Enneagram to uncover motivations and priorities. Phase One: Business Discovery & Exit Readiness Assessment, where owners begin evaluating industry dynamics, operational gaps, and qualitative questions that often seem simple - but prove surprisingly difficult to answer. Phase Two: Valuation Preparation, helping owners gather the information needed for an equity estimate that provides a directional view of their company's worth rather than relying on guesswork. Phase Three: Honest Conversations & Risk Review, inviting both spouses into discussions about fears, expectations, long-term goals, and the emotional impact of stepping away from the business. Phase Four: Strategy & Buyer Fit, covering potential internal and external buyers, tax considerations, tradeoffs, and the importance of allowing enough runway - often years, not weeks - to position the business properly. Phase Five: The "Wheel of Life" Transition, where owners begin planning purpose, meaning, and fulfillment beyond the sale, ensuring they enter retirement with clarity, stability, and a vision for how they want to spend their time. If you know a business owner preparing for their next chapter, feel free to share this episode with them! This episode provides general educational information only and is not intended to provide specific investment, tax, or legal advice.

Cherry and Jackie Cummings Koski stress that honest, ongoing conversations about money, before and during life transitions, are non-negotiable. Building shared financial goals, scheduling regular money meetings, and understanding differences in financial background ("money genealogy") help partners maintain unity and autonomy. "If you agree that the household is the mission, you can better understand each other's paths," emphasizes Preston D. Cherry. 2. Preparing for a Career Pivot Means More Than the Numbers Mariko Gordon explains that major changes like launching a business demand both runway and emotional readiness. She highlights the importance of clarity around your cash flow, having a contingency plan, and not feeling like a failure if you need to pause or pivot, "sometimes you don't have to commit financial scorched earth devastation." Jacqueline "JaQ" Campbell adds that curating a personal board of directors and mentors is just as critical as financial systems. 3. Multi-Generational Support Requires Boundaries and Education For those "sandwiched" between supporting children and aging parents, Jacqueline "JaQ" Campbell and Jackie Cummings Koski agree that prioritizing your own retirement and empowering others through financial literacy are keys to sustainable support. Rather than being an ATM, strive to be your parents' and children's CFO: educate, plan, and let loved ones learn through their own financial decisions. 4. Navigating Solo Transitions: Give Yourself Grace Loss and divorce are as much emotional events as financial ones. Jackie Cummings Koski and Jacqueline "JaQ" Campbell underline the necessity of seeking support, taking time to process grief, and acting strategically, updating financial documents, gathering your advisory team, and setting new goals. Preston D. Cherry shares, "Allow yourself the space to heal… you don't need permission to take it for yourself." Call-to-Action Pick one transition, current or upcoming, and write down the single next financial action that would bring you more stability. This week, take that first step, whether it's organizing documents, reviewing beneficiaries, or scheduling a money conversation. Progress starts with one action! Evidently she has 32,800 high-definition photos and over 2000 videos on her computer—"which may be why it's running a little slow.” (Nic uses the voice.)Nic meets a guy who carries human tissue to the airport every day. When Nic asked, the guy said the heads go in smaller boxes—now he can't sleep.Shifting gears means the struggle we all experience when going through life transitions. Kids go through transition every six months or so. Parenting has its own transitions when the kids go from child to teenager.Nic brings up how some parents don't shift gears—they fight their kids' battles. He shares the example of how a mom called an employer after her 21-year-old son got fired.Transitions are hard. Nic and Tarina will be empty nesters soon, so they are preparing for how they will shift gears. They are having lots of honest conversations together and asking, “What does empty nesting look like?”In the construction world, there are journeymen who become a foreman, but they never step up and actually lead. Pastor Dustin explained that gratitude is far more than a feeling or a seasonal practice—it's a way of life that has the power to reshape how we see everything. When we fix our attention on what God has given us, complaining becomes harder and our hearts begin to shift. The 25 Days of Gratitude Challenge was designed not as a short-term exercise, but as a catalyst for lasting transformation. Changing our patterns is difficult, but it's essential if we want to live in the fullness God intends.Just as understanding flight changes the way we see airplanes, encountering Christ changes the way we see our entire lives. Paul experienced this firsthand. Once a Pharisee who valued status and outward achievement, his meeting with Jesus completely reframed his perspective. Writing to a culture obsessed with honor and appearance, Paul reminded the church in Corinth—and us—that Christ came in humility and suffering, not worldly glory. Before Christ, we tend to see our time, talents, and treasures as ours alone. But in Christ, everything becomes a gift to steward. Our time is entrusted to us, our abilities are on loan from God, and our resources become tools for His kingdom. Stories from people in our own church, like Roger and Jason, show how talents and resources can be used to serve others and give glory to God.This matters because we are called to be Christ's ambassadors—people who carry His message to a world longing for hope. We don't save anyone; only Christ does. But we are invited to stand in the gap, pointing others back to Him. Generosity, then, isn't simply an obligation. It's a privilege and a sign of spiritual maturity. For believers, the invitation is to open our hands and grow in generosity and sanctification. And for those who don't yet know Christ, the call is to stop searching for peace and belonging apart from Him, and find it in the One who became sin for us so that we might be made right with God.[00:00] - Welcome[00:24] - The Challenge of Gratitude[01:23] - Changing Patterns and Life Transitions[02:22] - Questions About Flight and Learning[03:58] - Discovering How Things Really Work[05:42] - Paul's Transformation and the Gospel[07:17] - How to Read and Understand Scripture[09:00] - Paul's Background and Hypocrisy[11:04] - Corinth: Wealth, Honor, and Culture[12:20] - False Teachers and True Apostleship[13:44] - The Way Things Were: Old Perspective[16:24] - The Way Things Are Now: New Life[18:54] - Stories of Stewardship in the Church[22:36] - Treasures and Generosity[23:25] - Why the Change Matters[24:00] - Ambassadors of Reconciliation[27:06] - The Bobsled Analogy: God's Equipping[32:39] - Challenges for Believers[35:56] - Invitation to Non-Believers[39:29] - Prayer, Response, and Generosity Opportunity[40:47] - Closing and Sending Forth
Why community is the most powerful tool for transformation.Community isn't just a feel-good buzzword. According to Gina Bianchini, it's a catalyst for personal and collective transformation.Bianchini is the CEO and founder of community-building platform, Mighty Networks, and author of the book Purpose: Design a Community and Change Your Life. "Community is when people come together, and every single member has something to give and something to receive," she explains. In contrast to the one-directional dynamic of a speaker and their audience or a creator and their following, Bianchini argues that the power of community lies in two-way exchanges, where each member benefits the group and benefits from it. "Community is the single most effective way to get results and transformation you just can't get on your own," she says.In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Bianchini joins host Matt Abrahams to discuss how to unlock the potential of purposeful communities. She shares strategies for finding your tribe during times of transition, the "people magic” created when we facilitate deep connections, and how creating community enables us to create the world and lives we imagine. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Gina BianchiniGina's Book: PurposeEp.174 Fix Meetings: Transform Gatherings Into Meaningful Moments Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:17) - Defining Community vs. Audience (04:05) - Community as a Catalyst for Transformation (06:41) - Finding the Right Community (10:29) - The Future Story Framework (13:22) - People Magic & Facilitation (19:07) - The Final Three Questions (24:59) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. As we explore this vital subject, I emphasize the uniqueness of each individual's journey through hormonal shifts, whether during perimenopause, menopause, or even monthly cycles. Recognizing the natural ebb and flow of hormonal changes, I reassure listeners that they are not "broken" or "losing it"—rather, their bodies are in a transformative phase, prompting a deeper understanding and connection to self.I lay the foundation by discussing the physiological impacts of fluctuating hormone levels and outline how these changes can manifest as various emotional and physical sensations. The transition can trigger new feelings of anxiety, identity crises, and insights into how one's life roles have evolved. It's essential to approach these transitions with curiosity, as understanding the interplay between hormones, stress, and emotional well-being can empower women during this compelling time.Commencing with an intimate exploration of the effects of estrogen and progesterone, I highlight how these hormones influence mood and anxiety levels. Listeners are encouraged to recognize that increased anxiety during these transitions is not a sign of weakness but rather a normal physiological response. I present practical strategies for self-care, including breathing techniques and grounding exercises, to help ease anxiety and cultivate a nurturing relationship with oneself. By advocating for slow exhale breathing, comforting mantras, and gentle physical practices, I offer tools that can aid women in navigating this sensitive phase with grace.#Perimenopause, #Menopause, #MidlifeAnxiety, #HormonalAnxiety, #WomensHealth, #TheChangeOfLife, #AnxietyRelief, #MidlifeTransition, #Recalibration, #IdentityShift, #Estrogen, #Progesterone, #NervousSystem, #StressManagement, #PrioritizeSleep, #SelfCare, #SetBoundaries, #GABA, #SlowExhale, #YouAreNotBroken, #GinaRyan, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #ChristianeNorthrup, #FemininePower, #NotLosingIt, #AnxietySupport, #MentalWellness, #StressRelief, #MindBodyConnection, #LifeTransitions, #SelfCompassion, #NervousSystemRegulation, #EmotionalHealth, #HealthJourney, #PersonalGrowth, #SelfHelp, #InnerPeace, #Midlife, #HormoneHealth, #WellbeingJourney, #DeepBreathing, #GroundingTechniques, #MentalClarity, #Recalibration, #ItsOkayToStruggle, #FindingYourCenter, #PodcastForAnxiety, #AuthenticSelf, #ChangingRhythms #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this week's episode of Before You Cut Bangs, Laura and Claire get brutally honest about what happens when life hits you with more plot twists than a sad country music song.Laura opens up about walking through a season where everything changed at once — a move, personal upheaval, emotional whiplash — while Claire deals with her own chaos (think: her hardwood floors literally being ripped out).Together, they unpack the real question: Why do we show up as totally different versions of ourselves when we're in crisis versus when life is calm? From stress responses to survival mode to the weird ways chaos makes us react, this episode is part therapy, part comedic relief, and part permission slip for anyone who feels like they're “handling it” but also maybe… not handling it.As we move into the holiday season — a time when chaos tends to multiply — Laura and Claire talk about: • What actually makes a day feel chaotic • Why small things hit so much harder when you're already at capacity • How to give yourself grace when you're not the “chill version” of yourself • The little anchors that help you come back to center • Why going through hard seasons doesn't make you dramatic — it makes you humanIf you're going through a lot right now, this one will make you feel a little less alone and a lot more normal. Grab your headphones, pour something warm, and let's laugh our way through the mess.____________________________________________________________________________________________In this episode we cover: • The difference between me in crisis and me when I'm chill • Why chaos makes everything feel bigger, heavier, and more dramatic • Laura's “my life is a country music song” season • Claire's own home-renovation nightmare • What actually defines chaos (spoiler: it's rarely the big thing) • Why you get snappy, defensive, avoidant, or shut down when you're overwhelmed • How fast life can change — and how to stay grounded when it does • What to expect as the holidays approach and emotional load increases • Small, practical ways to return to yourself in the middle of a storm

Carlii Lyon has spent more than two decades helping extraordinary people shape their stories, from supermodels and global entrepreneurs to bestselling authors and spiritual leaders. As a publicist, she built reputations that captured the world’s attention, but over time her work shifted from curating others’ narratives to reclaiming her own. Her book Courage to Be – Small Steps for a Big Life is part memoir, part manifesto, exploring the quiet but profound acts of courage that redefine our lives. Through honest storytelling, Carlii invites readers to embrace visibility, imperfection and the liberation that comes with speaking our truth. This conversation is both professional and deeply personal. Carlii and I have known each other for nearly twenty years, through motherhood, reinvention and the ever-evolving landscape of womanhood. She introduced me to Dr John Demartini and Miranda Kerr when her career as a powerhouse publicist was in full swing. I met her as a junior publicist, full of promise and drive, and we have travelled together, breastfed our babies side by side, and held each other through heartbreak and triumph. In this episode we talk about authenticity, confidence, storytelling and self-discovery—the courage to evolve, to be seen and to stand fully in your truth. On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Kyra Faison Gardner—certified transformational life & retirement coach, author of Who Do You Think You Are?, and founder of Prospect & Refuge Life—about “threshold alchemy”: using life transitions (midlife shifts, retirement, loss, reinvention) to create purpose. Kyra unpacks practical rituals (silence at sunrise, gratitude journaling, mindful community) and a direct message: you don't need permission to change direction. This episode is built for listeners seeking midlife reinvention, post-career identity, spiritual grounding, and daily practices that stick. About the Guest: Kyra Faison Gardner is a transformational life & retirement coach and author of Who Do You Think You Are? After more than 20 years as a founder/CEO—and rebuilding after a devastating house fire—she now helps people in their second and third acts redesign life with intention through Prospect & Refuge Life. Key Takeaways: Threshold alchemy defined: transform uncertain life stages into meaningful new chapters by reframing identity beyond roles and titles. Identity ≠ job: you are not your career, marital status, or parental role; reinvention starts when you expand who you believe you are. Rituals over routines: morning silence, sunrise, brief meditation, and gratitude journaling stabilize mood and sharpen purpose. Body-markers for intention: simple anchors (remove shoes, anoint hands/feet, light a candle) signal your nervous system it's time to focus. Community matters: find cohorts or circles that see your current self and support who you're becoming. Permission slip: you already have permission to be happy, change your mind, and pursue long-delayed curiosities. Spiritual flexibility: you don't need the “right” label for the sacred; name it how it resonates and keep going. Micro-choices win: small, repeatable acts (feed the birds, a poem, one page of writing) accumulate into identity change. From trauma to truth: healing isn't linear; honest writing and coaching help you share without losing peace. Aging as expansion: retirement and midlife aren't endings—they're invitations to create, learn, and serve. In this powerful solo episode, Janet Ioli dives into the often-ignored foundation of true leadership—character—and why it's time we bring it back into focus.Through honest reflection and real-world observation, Janet explores how our collective erosion of respect, honesty, and decency has created a crisis of leadership. She challenges us to look inward and asks a question every leader should sit with: Who are we becoming? This conversation is an invitation to pause, recalibrate, and recommit to leading with integrity—not just in titles or organizations, but in how we show up as human beings. In this episode:✅ Why character has quietly disappeared from leadership conversations✅ The difference between charisma and true integrity✅ How modern culture rewards “winning” over doing what's right✅ Why arrogance and disrespect are disguised as righteousness✅ The role of fear, ego, and power in our leadership choices✅ How to recenter character as an expectation in leadership✅ Simple, everyday ways to demonstrate character in action✅ Why leading with decency, humility, and honesty is the ultimate edgeAbout Janet Ioli:Janet Ioli is a globally recognized executive advisor, coach, and leadership expert with over 25 years of experience developing leaders in Fortune 100 companies and global organizations. She created The Inner Edge—a framework, a movement, and a message that flips leadership from mere success performance to presence; from ego to soul. A tender question sits at the center of this conversation: what happens when we trust the heart more than the plan? We follow that thread through three original readings from Revelations of the Sky and into the lived terrain of starting over, moving from Alaska to Kauai, and rebuilding identity with fewer titles and more truth. Along the way, we challenge the myth of a single calling, exploring purpose as plural—something we practice in small daily choices, not just in big career moves—and invite permission to experiment with language, work, and self-expression.We talk openly about grief as a beginning rather than an end point: the catalyst that widened the path to spirituality, intuition, and creative risk. If you identify as sensitive or empathic, you'll hear a reframe you might need today: feeling deeply is not a flaw to fix but a strength to master. That intensity can hurt, but it also heals—it's the same openness that lets joy register in bright color and makes meaning easier to find in ordinary moments. From that place, wisdom becomes less theoretical and more embodied, tempered by trial, mistake, and the quiet kind of courage that accrues over time. The final movement is a call to be seen. Not as a performance, but as an act of alignment—peeling back old skins, integrating professional expertise with spiritual gifts, and allowing your voice to carry the life you've actually lived. Trust here isn't a leap into nothing; it's a series of grounded steps toward what feels alive. If you've been waiting for permission to shine, consider this your gentle green light. Listen, reflect, and then tell us: where is your heart asking you to go next? If this conversation resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more seekers can find their way here.Tune in next week for a new episode to support and empower your light--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. What if the real work of women in leadership isn't about playing the part, but rewriting the entire script? In this solo episode, Janet explores the deep inner tension that women leaders experience as they navigate cultural expectations of femininity and leadership strength. Through her own story of being cast as Aphrodite instead of Athena in a childhood play, Janet uncovers how these archetypes still shape women's experiences at work today.Drawing from her decades of research and personal reflection, she invites us to question the archetypes we've inherited, and to imagine new models of authentic, integrated leadership. In this episode:✅ Why traditional leadership roles weren't designed with women in mind✅ How cultural archetypes still shape how women lead and are perceived✅ The inner tension between being “feminine” and being “strong”✅ The story of Aphrodite and Athena—and what it reveals about modern leadership✅ Why awareness of “role tension” is the first step toward authentic integration✅ How cultural scripts—not personal inadequacy—fuel self-doubt✅ The call for new leadership archetypes that blend wisdom and compassion✅ What it means to create your own authentic model of leadershipAbout Janet Ioli:Janet Ioli is a globally recognized executive advisor, coach, and leadership expert with over 25 years of experience developing leaders in Fortune 100 companies and global organizations. She created The Inner Edge—a framework, a movement, and a message that flips leadership from mere success performance to presence; from ego to soul.
