Save your seat here: phineaswrighthouse.com/the-shop/p/summer-solstice-white-party-2027In this episode, Wendy sits down with Kim Costa, a real estate professional and author who believes your home is far more than a financial transaction—it's a reflection of your soul. After years in real estate and a background in residential construction and design, Kim has developed a framework for making conscious housing decisions aligned with who you actually are. She's written a book featuring the Wheelhouse Assessment, a tool that helps people understand the 8 areas of their life and what their home needs to support. They explore:Why your home is a spiritual alignment tool, not just a practical one, and what happens when it's out of alignmentHow to use the Wheelhouse Assessment and Maslow's hierarchy to distinguish between real needs and aesthetic wantsWhy knowing yourself is the foundation for choosing a home that actually serves youKim's philosophy is simple: life transitions, whether forced upon us or chosen, are opportunities to recalibrate and ask the hard questions. Your home can either support that process or resist it. The work isn't just about finding the right house. It's about understanding who you're becoming and whether your living space can hold that version of you. That's conscious choosing.Connect with Kim:Website: lifestylefoundations.comInstagram: instagram.com/kim.e.costaLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/kimecostaHer Podcast, Live in Your Wheelhouse: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/live-in-your-wheel-house/id1853930729Get her book, Live in Your Wheelhouse: amazon.com/Live-Your-Wheel-House-Empowering/dp/B0GKTB5Z7C?tag=syty-20Referenced in this Episode:Books by Gay Hendricks: The Genius Zone: The Breakthrough Process to End Negative Thinking and Live in True Creativity: amazon.com/Genius-Zone-Breakthrough-Negative-Creativity/dp/1250246547?tag=syty-20The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level: amazon.com/Big-Leap-Conquer-Hidden-Level/dp/0061735361?tag=syty-20Wendy's HGTV Appearance: New House New Life, Season 1 Episode 3: amazon.com/New-House-Life-Season/dp/B091HZQ912________________________________________________________________________________________Connect with Wendy:LinkedinInstagram: @wendy.harropFacebook: Phineas Wright HouseWebsite: Phineas Wright House PWH Farm StaysPWH Curated Experience and TravelInterested in being a guest on the show? Send us Fan MailWhat do you do when the business, career, or life plan you built your identity on suddenly disappears? In this episode of Spartan Leadership, Josh Kosnick sits down with Dr. Christine Whelan, the “purpose professor,” to talk about why purpose is a verb—something you do every day with your gifts and values—rather than a job title or a single life calling. They unpack what happens when everything falls apart: Josh's story of losing his business five years ago, empty nest transitions, career changes, and the quiet identity crises that come when a chapter ends. Dr. Whelan explains how to separate your purpose from your role, why transitions make purpose feel more urgent, and how to design a life where you spend more time on the things you're gifted at and actually enjoy. You'll hear a research‑backed definition of purpose, a fresh take on happiness as a byproduct (not the goal), and a practical framework for living with pro‑social purpose—using your gifts, in keeping with your values, to positively impact other people in the community. If you've ever asked “What now?” after a loss, layoff, or big life change, this conversation is for you.In this episode:• Why “purpose is a verb,” not a one‑time discovery or slogan• How to think about purpose when your business, role, or season ends• Designing work you love using a simple “T‑chart” exercise• Purpose in parenting and raising kids who live their values• Pro‑social purpose, “eco‑you” vs “ego‑you,” and why community mattersConnect with Dr. Christine Whelan: - Website: https://christinewhelan.com- Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cbwhelan/Connect with Josh Kosnick:- LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/joshkosnick- Instagram: https://instagram.com/joshkosnick- Website: https://joshkosnick.com #PurposeIsAVerb #ChristineWhelan #SpartanLeadership #PurposeAfterLoss #LifeTransitions #FindYourPurpose #ChristianLeadership #BusinessLeadership #PersonalGrowth #Podcast Support the showCONNECT WITH ME HERE:FacebookInstagramLinkedInTwitterTikTokYouTubeSUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST HERE:Apple PodcastsSpotifyYouTube

I want to alert you, so you don’t miss out on expert analysis and insider perspectives from my guests who provide tips that can help you uplift the community, improve your financial planning, motivation, or advice on how to be a successful entrepreneur. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Al Smith. Interview Purpose The purpose of this interview is to explore life transitions, resilience, and financial discipline through the lens of elite performance, using Al Smith’s journey from NFL All‑Pro to executive, entrepreneur, and community leader as a blueprint. The conversation highlights how preparation, education, mindset, and adaptability are essential when dreams evolve or abruptly change. This interview also serves to connect the experiences of professional athletes with those of small business owners and entrepreneurs, emphasizing that success in both arenas requires discipline, accountability, and long‑term thinking. Major Themes & Key Takeaways 1. Education as a Safety Net and Strategy Al Smith made the deliberate decision to finish his college degree before fully committing to the NFL, recognizing that professional sports offered no guarantees. This choice gave him leverage, confidence, and security—both mentally and financially—throughout his career. Key takeaway: Always secure something tangible before going “all in” on an uncertain opportunity. 2. Turning Fear into Fuel Smith openly discusses fear—fear of being cut, fear of competition, fear of uncertainty—and how he learned to convert fear into motivation rather than paralysis. He treated each season as if it were his last, approaching preparation with urgency and focus. Key takeaway: Fear is inevitable; how you respond to it determines longevity and success. 3. Competition Is Not the Enemy Competition played a central role in Smith’s development. Rather than avoiding it, he embraced it, understanding that growth requires discomfort. He credits adversity, pressure, and coaching challenges with sharpening his performance and character. Key takeaway: Competition strengthens discipline and reveals accountability. 4. Financial Literacy and Lifestyle Discipline Smith addresses the common financial pitfalls faced by professional athletes, many of which also apply to entrepreneurs: Lifestyle inflation Supporting others without boundaries Delegating financial decisions without understanding them Trying to maintain an image instead of sustainability Smith’s financial stability was aided by mentors, personal involvement in decisions, and a mindset focused on not owing—not just earning. Key takeaway: Financial success is not about income—it’s about control, habits, and awareness. 5. Mentorship and Environment Matter Smith emphasizes the value of surrounding himself with successful, disciplined people both on and off the field. Mentorship influenced how he thought about money, effort, competition, and leadership. Key takeaway: Proximity shapes thinking; environment influences outcomes. 6. Preparing for Life After the Dream Even while succeeding in the NFL, Smith planned for the transition ahead. This forward thinking led to opportunities in the front office, business, and leadership. He viewed this transition as a chance to open doors for others and to understand the business side of sports. Key takeaway: The end of one dream can be the beginning of a larger purpose. 7. Athletes and Entrepreneurs Face the Same Reality Smith draws a direct parallel between: Athletes competing yearly with no guarantees Entrepreneurs running businesses without security or routine Both require maximum effort, preparation beyond the clock, and resilience. Key takeaway: There is no 40‑hour workweek when you are building something of your own. Notable Quotes “I turned my fear into fire.” “There are no guarantees—every year is a one‑year deal.” “I treated every season like it was my last.” “You don’t want to owe. You want to own.” “Don’t be scared of competition.” “The gain outweighs the strain.” “Prepare so that if it ends tomorrow, you’re still standing.” Overall Message Al Smith’s interview is a powerful lesson in discipline, foresight, and adaptability. It reframes success as something built through preparation before opportunity arrives and sustained by humility, mentorship, and intentional decision‑making. His story reinforces that dreams evolve—but character, work ethic, and financial awareness determine whether those transitions become setbacks or stepping stones. #SHMS #BEST #STRAWSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

2. In this episode, I'm joined by Ryan McGuigan, whose life, from the outside, looked like a success. He had built a thriving business from scratch, was engaged to be married, enjoyed financial stability, and seemed to be living the life many men aspire to. But beneath the surface, something felt wrong. As the physical demands of his work took their toll and cracks began to appear in his relationship, Ryan found himself facing a reality he hadn't expected. Within a short space of time, his engagement ended, he moved into a shared house just months before turning 40, and the identity he had spent years building began to unravel. In this honest and thought-provoking conversation, Ryan shares the shame, anxiety and loss of identity that followed, how he struggled with the gap between how his life looked and how it actually felt, and the surprising discovery that helped him rebuild his confidence and sense of purpose. We explore what happens when the roles, relationships and achievements we rely on for our self-worth disappear and why many men find themselves questioning everything in midlife. In this episode we discuss:Why success on paper doesn't always lead to fulfilmentThe hidden impact of identity loss after relationship breakdownHow shame and fear can keep men stuckWhy many men struggle when life doesn't go to planThe difference between external success and internal self-worthHow guided meditation helped Ryan reconnect with what really matteredWhat he learned about purpose, confidence and starting againWhy it is never too late to redesign your lifeIf you want to find out more about Ryan and listen to a free 30-minute meditation, visit his website: https://ryanpaulmcguigan.com/.

Our family has gone through our fair share of big changes, which you'll hear all about in this episode, so this is something that I've spent a lot of time thinking about. Especially as a parent of a differently wired kid, I know that there are some extra challenges that might come up when their routines, environment, life circumstances, or supports change, and our kids are also more likely to be resistant to changes (even if they are beneficial). So today I'll be sharing the strategies I've personally found helpful while going through big transitions with Asher. In this episode, I talk about key things such as why being honest when communicating with your kid is so important to help them understand and process change, how being vulnerable can be a way to show support, how to validate our kids' feelings about the changes or transitions, and how to identify their concerns so you can make plans to address them in advance. I also share about what adjustment disorder is and the kind of extra support you might need during transitions. What You'll Learn in this Episode The benefits and growth that can come from navigating big changes as a family Why honesty is so important when communicating with your child about big changes What to share versus what not to share with your child about the transitions you go through How to validate the big emotions and thoughts that big transitions can bring up in your child The importance of doing your own work as a parent to be able to support our kids during transitions What adjustment disorder is and the extra support you might need to help your child through one How being vulnerable with your kids can be really supportive for them Identifying the concerns that our kids have and coming up with plans to address them in advance Creating new routines to create security for our kids during big transitions Learn more about your ad choices. How can we approach aging with more joy, empathy, and meaningful connection? We often talk about lifespan, or how long we live, but Kerry Burnight believes the more important question is how fully we live along the way.Burnight is a gerontologist, former professor of geriatric medicine, and author of Joyspan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life's Second Half. Drawing from decades of experience working with older adults, she discusses why adopting a “growth aging mindset” can change the way we think about getting older, and why autonomy matters just as much as safety in conversations with aging loved ones. As she puts it, “it's not just the big moments, it's the little moments, too.”In this Quick Thinks episode of Think Fast Talk Smart, Burnight and host Matt Abrahams explore the role of listening, storytelling, and empathy in effective communication across generations. Through memorable examples and actionable advice, Burnight offers a compassionate framework for talking about — and thinking about — aging differently.Episode Reference Links:Dr. Kerry BurnightKerry's Book: JoyspanEp.176 From Stereotypes to Synergy: Communicating Across Generations Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:53) - Aging Mindsets (05:21) - Give of the Day (08:49) - Difficult Aging Conversations (19:21) - Explaining Complex Ideas (20:50) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. How do you hold on… while also learning to let go? In this episode, I sit down with author and military spouse Lindsay Swoboda to talk about the ongoing reality of navigating change throughout military life. From early marriage and career pivots to overseas moves, motherhood, and eventually military retirement, Lindsay shares what it's been like to continually reinvent herself while holding on to the parts of herself that matter most. In this conversation, we talk about: The cycle of reinvention as a military spouse Letting go of expectations while still holding onto purpose The emotional tension of grief and gratitude that exists at the same time What surrender really looks like in seasons you didn't choose Why comparison makes transition seasons even harder How to move at your own pace—even when life feels uncertain Lindsay also shares the story behind her book, Holding On and Letting Go: A Life in Motion, and how writing became a way to process the often contradictory experience of military life. Military life doesn't just ask you to let go once. It asks you to do it again and again, while still holding onto who you are becoming. A full life isn't about the quantity of time, but the quality. Our lifespan might describe how long we live, but it doesn't say anything about how well we live. For that, Kerry Burnight says, we need a different measure: joyspan.Burnight is a gerontologist, former professor of geriatric medicine, and author of Joyspan: The Art and Science of Thriving in Life's Second Half. In her decades working with older adults, she noticed a gap: “I would have a lot of people who lived long lives and were in pretty darn good physical health. They were miserable.” That observation led her to dig into the research on well-being — and to find what it takes to enjoy a long life, not just endure one.In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Burnight joins host Matt Abrahams to explore her joyspan framework, explaining how growth, connection, adapting, and giving contribute to a full life. From changing the conversation around aging to communicating more effectively across generations, Burnight offers practical wisdom for living better at any age.Episode Reference Links:Dr. Kerry BurnightKerry's Book: JoyspanEp.176 From Stereotypes to Synergy: Communicating Across Generations Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (03:21) - Defining Joyspan (05:28) - The Joyspan Matrix (11:04) - Learning to Adjust (11:58) - The Power of Stories (15:39) - Internalized Ageism (18:41) - The Final Three Questions (26:00) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. Eight hotels. Twenty-one days in New York. Sick throat. Camera cutting out. No sublet locked in.And Norense is still recording — because that's what confidence in God looks like when it stops being a concept and starts being a lifestyle. This episode is a raw, unfiltered thought dump from a hotel room in Manhattan — a real-time reminder that confidence isn't built in the comfortable moments. It's forged in the uncertain ones. Norense unpacks what it means to stay bold in who you are when everything around you is shifting, and why the moment you stop giving God thanks is the moment your confidence starts to collapse.Drawing from Romans 1, Norense reveals the dangerous connection between ingratitude and a darkened mind — and why praise isn't optional. It's protective. In this episode:Why confidence is something you hold onto — not something you throw away when obstacles comeThe Romans 1 warning: what happens to your mind when you stop giving God thanks and gloryHow nitpicking yourself into the ground is actually lowering the standard God set for how you should see yourselfWhy you're not defined by every thought that comes into your head — and what to do with the ones that try to take you downThe difference between thinking too highly of yourself and thinking too lowly — and why both are dangerousWhy trying seasons don't break you — they reveal capacity you didn't know you hadA personal inventory: sexual assault, suicidal ideation, losing loved ones, losing in sport — and why none of it disqualifies youKey Truth: "I don't know where I'm going, but I know who's with me."Key Verse: Romans 1:21 — Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. If this episode hit you:Rate the Mind Bully Podcast — it helps more homes and hearts hear this message.

Welcome to this week's episode of "People in Transition". I'm your host, Bob Gerst, and today I'm joined by Gregg Lunceford, PhD, CFP®, a seasoned wealth advisor and thought leader who is redefining how we think about retirement. As a Managing Director at Mesirow and an academic researcher focused on 21st-century retirement transitions, Gregg brings a rare combination of real-world experience and deep intellectual insight to this conversation. With more than two decades of advising individuals approaching and entering retirement, his work goes far beyond finances - exploring identity, purpose, and what it truly means to thrive in life's “third age.” Gregg is also the author of "Exit from Work", where he challenges conventional thinking and opens the door to a more intentional, fulfilling vision of retirement. In this engaging and thought-provoking discussion, Gregg and I explore several important yet often overlooked aspects of retirement. We dig into why so many people struggle to feel excited about retirement - touching on the loss of structure, daily accomplishment, and social connection that work provides - and what can be done to address those challenges. Gregg introduces the idea of building a “coaching identity” and explains how it can provide continuity and purpose during this transition. We also discuss how retirement doesn't have to be a binary, all-or-nothing decision; it can be a gradual shift, working fewer days over time. Along the way, we examine the untapped sense of empowerment that retirement can offer, the importance of replacing “kinship with friendship,” and how evolving life stages - from youth to middle age to the “third age” - shape our satisfaction and happiness. This is a conversation that challenges assumptions and opens up new possibilities for anyone thinking about what comes next. Gregg offers practical insights and a refreshing perspective on how to approach retirement not as an ending, but as a beginning filled with opportunity. If you're preparing for this transition - or even just starting to think about it - this episode will give you plenty to consider.
