The first wave of bands have been announced for 2025, and it's a tsunami worth diving into.Karnivool, Melvins, Rolo Tomassi, Kylesa, Between the Buried and Me playing Colors, The Fall of Troy playing Doppelgänger and not just one, but two We Lost The Sea sets, including "the greatest post rock album ever"... Departure Songs.Plenty to get swept away by but first, what's the issue with international bank transfers, music award bashes and agents selling you a dummy! Curly fucking Wurly, indeed. We go again, every Thursday morning.
English punk/metal hybrid Rolo Tomassi have arrived in Australia for their smash and run of shows as part of sleepmakeswaves' Love Of Cartography Tour, which also features Japanese math rock outfit Lite who make their debut Australian performances.Rolo Tomassi return after an absence of eight years, with the pandemic repeatedly putting paid to the band's efforts to make it back sooner. With the first show of the tour completed in Perth last night, HEAVY thought it pertinent to spend some time with keys player/vocalist James Spence to get a feel for what to expect and their relationship with sleepmakeswaves."So we were supposed to tour with them in 2020, and that didn't happen because of the global pandemic," he explained. "I think since then, there's been a willingness to make something happen again. I met them earlier this year at a festival in Europe and got to hang out, and we got on immediately. You could tell they would be nice people to spend time with and a good band to play shows with. There's definitely something in our sounds that compliment each other, and it fits together in a cohesive way without being the same thing."Listen/watch the full interview for more, including what it's like having a sibling in the same band and about what has changed sonically and technologically for Rolo Tomassi since they were in Australia last.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThe Callous Daoboys, a punk/mathcore band hailing from Georgia, USA, have emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the underground music scene. With their blistering sound, unapologetic lyrics, and chaotic stage presence, the band has carved a unique niche for themselves, pushing the boundaries of punk and leaving a lasting impact on anyone who witnesses their live performances. One of the defining characteristics of The Callous Daoboys' music is its raw, unfiltered energy. Their songs are a whirlwind of aggression, featuring dissonant guitar riffs, thunderous drumming, and Sturges' ferocious vocal delivery. Each track is a frenetic journey, filled with unpredictable tempo changes, jagged time signatures, and explosive breakdowns that keep listeners on the edge of their seats.Lyrically, The Callous Daoboys tackle a wide range of social and political themes with an unapologetic and confrontational approach. Their lyrics explore topics such as systemic injustice, mental health struggles, societal apathy, and the complexities of human relationships. By addressing these issues head-on, the band encourages listeners to question the status quo and embrace their own agency in effecting change. While their recorded music is a force to be reckoned with, The Callous Daoboys truly shine in their live performances. Their shows are a whirlwind of chaos and catharsis, with the band members throwing themselves across the stage, feeding off the energy of the crowd, and creating an intense and immersive experience. The visceral connection they establish with their audience is a testament to their dedication to their craft and their unwavering commitment to delivering an unforgettable performance. The band's relentless work ethic and DIY approach have also played a significant role in their rise to prominence. They have tirelessly toured across the United States, building a dedicated fan base and spreading their electrifying sound to new ears. Their commitment to connecting with their audience extends beyond the stage, as they actively engage with their fans through social media, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. In 2019, The Callous Daoboys released their debut album, "Die On Mars," a chaotic and ambitious body of work that solidified their place in the punk/mathcore scene. The album received critical acclaim for its innovative songwriting, technical prowess, and unrelenting intensity. Tracks like "Blackberry DeLorean" and "Blacklisted in D.C." showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend abrasive aggression with moments of melodic respite, creating a dynamic and captivating listening experience. The Callous Daoboys are a testament to the enduring spirit of punk rock, pushing the boundaries of the genre and injecting it with a fresh sense of urgency. With their relentless energy, uncompromising sound, and unapologetic approach to their art, they continue to inspire and invigorate both new and seasoned fans of punk and mathcore. As they continue to evolve and expand their musical horizons, The Callous Daoboys are poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of aggressive music for years to come.Converge, Norma Jean, Botch, The Chariot, Every Time I Die, Ion Dissonance, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Deadguy, Car Bomb, Rolo Tomassi, Psyopus, Gaza, Cult Leader, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Frontierer, Daughters, The Locust, Heavy Heavy Low Low, Knut, The Armed, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Sectioned, Pageninetynine, Melt-Banana, Blood Brothers, SikTh, Cave In, War from a Harlots Mouth, Shai Hulud, Me and Him Call It Us, Horse the Band, Architects, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Vein, Loma Prieta, Botchla, Fear Before the March of FThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

It's that time again, Riot Act is here, your weekly look at the world of music, and it's been an incredibly eventful one don't you know! On this week's show Steve and Remfry have been to the movies (sort of) they both watched the brand new Foo Fighters film Studio 666 where the alt rock megastars take on some demonic force in their recording studio. It is a mad enough idea, but is it any good you ask?! Well, we'll be more than prepared to tell you, whilst also having a quick trawl through the archives of other similar films starring bands, from Eminem to The Spice Girls, Michael Jackson turning into a spaceship to Kiss meeting the Phantom of the park, we look at the bizarre history of band movies. We also discuss the latest album releases from Tears For Fears, Sylvaine and Beachheads, review a varied set of gigs from the Rolo Tomassi, Pupil Slicer and Heriot triple header, Nordic Giants ambitiously cinematic show and Dave's triumphant O2 spectacular and talk about new music… sort of, from those greedy buggers Tool! In this week's main episode we have multiple guests for the first time, as we dive into the new Black Country New Road album Ants from Up There, and the new Rolo Tomassi album Where Myth Becomes Memory. Our BCNR discussion proves to be one of our most divisive and in-depth to date, as we interrogate the massive hype circle surrounding this album, how to negotiate approaching a record with this level of intense acclaim, and how it relates to the sound and content of the album itself… Subscribe to the channel and watch the video version on YouTube.
An enormous month for expansive albums demands a big episode, as our February reviews hit huge records from Venom Prison, Zeal & Ardor, Korn, Cult of Luna, Rolo Tomassi, Gregor Barnett, Tuskar, and Immolation, and tries to turn over every bit of rock beef these weeks have thrown at us.
Where Myth Becomes Memory. On this episode we are joined by James Spence from the band Rolo Tomassi. Rolo Tomassi are an English band from Sheffield. Their name is taken from a dialogue in the film L.A. Confidential. The band is known for their strong DIY ethic and chaotic style and performances. They are currently signed to MNRK Heavy. Please support the Mark and Me Podcast via Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/Markandme or you can buy me a coffee here: https://ko-fi.com/markandme or you can even treat yourself to a sticker over at my store here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MarkandMeStore
Hell Bent For Metal asks whether being a metalhead is a barrier to queer dating life, and the hosts discuss their experiences of this. They ask if the metal look, metal culture, and not being part of the more stereotypical gay scene, are additional sources of difficulty to queer romantic life. They also invite audience input and will follow this up, so that other parts of the LGBTQ+ community can offer their experiences in a future show.Plus it's a bumper visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar, with Səni Uzaq Kainatlarda Axtarıram by Violet Cold, Where Myth Becomes Memory by Rolo Tomassi, and Born Of Obsidian by Kurokuma all going into the jukebox.
It's the first of what we can safely assume is going to be a large number of absolutely stacked review round-ups for 2022! Merl and Steve get stuck into new Korn album Requiem and discuss why sometimes less is more (and why, all these years later, no one does Korn like Korn); we also heap praise on what is surely the best metal album of 2022 so far in Venom Prison's masterful new opus, Erebos; we rate the new Rolo Tomassi record, Where Myth Becomes Memory (HINT: it's also really good); and Steve gives us a hot tip for a new band ticking all the right boxes.Plus, we review Turnstile's epic show in London from earlier in the week and ask the big question: could they be the band to go further than anyone in the history of hardcore has managed?Order our Korn issue at bit.ly/buyhammer
We're back with another Riot Act Reviews, the show where Steve and Remfry give their expert opinion on one of the more notable releases in the music world. Today we're speaking about one of the most unique and singular artists that Britain has ever produced; Rolo Tomassi and their 6th studio album Where Myth Becomes Memory. As the follow up to 2018's critically adored Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It album, there is a hell of a lot of expectation on WMBM, but if you've been following us since the beginning, then you'll not be shocked to hear that we think they've skillfully sidestepped any accusations of delivering a disappointment. This is very much a continuation of the previous album, but with an extra lacing of hopefulness and positivity, bringing an end to an exceptional trilogy of records for the band. So, as ever, you can be guaranteed some sublimely brutal riffs, some euphorically soaring and shimmering clean passages and all manner of rhythmically inspiring and bewildering grooves, plus a few new tricks pulled from the Rolo Tomassi bag. We conclude with Remfry talking to James and Chris from the band about how the record came together. Two Yorkshiremen. One amazing, and increasingly eclectic punk-cum-noise-cum-post-hardcore-cum-shoegaze-cum-prog-metal band. On this episode I'm talking to James Spence from the great, Sheffield born outfit Rolo Tomassi, whose new studio album – their sixth – Where Myth Becomes Memory - is released this Friday, on February 4th. It's a quite remarkable record, and so our chat digs into the making of said record, the band's ever evolving sound, that time I travelled through Holland and into Germany with them and Trash Talk… and football obviously. Hope you enjoy the conversation! The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Joey and Venny are very pleased to be joined by UK post-math legends Rolo Tomassi. James Spence and Chris Cayford join us for a short but very sweet interview show which includes a broad range of discussion from Arsenal to touring Russia, as well as celebrating new album Where Myth Becomes Memory
Together with Sean Ulbs of the Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Rolo Tomassi over Zoom video! ROLO TOMASSI will release their huge, expansive and ambitious, brand new album 'Where Myth Becomes Memory' on February 4th, 2022 through MNRK. The band returned in August with the single 'Cloaked', their first new music since 2018's hugely acclaimed 'Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It'.ROLO TOMASSI have spent 17 years leading the pack rather than following and 'Where Myth Becomes Memory', sees them lead with more poise and determination than ever before. The new album serves as the final part in an unintended trilogy that began with 2015's 'Grievances' and continued with 2018's 'Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It', the most critically acclaimed album of the band's career to date. Every ROLO TOMASSI album shows signs of growth, but 'Where Myth Becomes Memory' serves as a culmination of a period of creativity that has exalted ROLO TOMASSI to their loftiest status so far as a band, with a singular vision where the most savage, unhinged sonics can co-exist harmoniously with epic cinematic elegance and grace.MORE ON ROLO TOMASSI: Formed in 2005 this quintet's early material blended hardcore with kitschy synths and nonsensical song structures. However, the group shaved off its more oddball qualities in favor of shoegaze and dream-pop on subsequent releases. This sound is beautifully demonstrated with Dillinger-style freak-outs that transition to lush soundscapes at a moment's notice. Anchored by the Spence siblings' complementary singing voices, the group perfectly blur the barrier between tranquility and destruction. They have worked with US super producer Diplo and performed on Channel 4 TV live with Biffy Clyro (watch that HERE), they have played the SXSW Festival, released an album through IPECAC after catching the ear of Mike Patton and their last album is on around 7 million streams on Spotify alone. This most recent album from 2018 'Time Will Die And love Will Bury It' was released to a flurry of praise an acclaim, landing it as the 2nd highest review score for the year on Metacritic (gaining a 92/100). Following previous tours and shows with the likes of Faith No More, Biffy Clyro, Dillinger Escape Plan, Architects, The Bronx and Gojira in 2019 (as main support), the band have established themselves as a live tour-de-force, now a headline prospect not only in their home territory of the UK and the EU, but also Australia, Japan, Russia and the USA. There is no band on Earth quite like ROLO TOMASSI We want to hear from you! Então é Natal, e o que você fez além de chorar em posição fetal, encher a cara de mé ou coca e se dar mimos comestíveis (pois você merece, mesmo sem merecer porcaria nenhuma)? On this week's show, we explore the idea of image and how it has evolved to encompass not just an aesthetic look but carefully crafted lore and mythos that listeners can delve into and explore outside of a band's music. Is image a vital component to becoming a hugely successful band in the 21st century? Is it a coincidence that bands with a striking aesthetic - Ghost, Sleep Token, Creeper, even Code Orange - have gained significant traction in a relatively short period of time? How and why is image relevant to an auditory medium? We also draft in Metal Hammer editor Merlin Alderslade to get his perspective and what significance a band's image might (or might not) have on editorial decisions made in the magazine. On top of that, we discuss the Adele shuffle kerfuffle, the grammys' lack of self-awareness and the new album from Cynic as well as live reviews of Rolo Tomassi, Mogwai and Sleep Token.
Having won two Knight Of Illumination Awards for his work with Nick Mulvey and Anna Calvi, it is an honor to have on this week's show Lighting and Production Designer Tom Campbell. Tom sat down with Stephen to talk through his fascinating career, which currently spans more than 15 years and begins on a journey of inspiration seeing Muse live at a young age and then learning his craft doing Theatre shows at the Bristol Hippodrome. This led quickly to the world of music and production touring, beginning with bands such as Devil Sold His Soul and Rolo Tomassi, which allowed Tom to perfect his craft and bring his visual genius to huge stages for the likes of Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes, Crossfaith, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine, and 30 Seconds To Mars. Tom has proved he can work across multiple genres of music and has also worked with the likes of Zane Lowe, Sports Team, Katy B, John Grant, Yungblud and The Black Queen. We are proud to be partnering this season with the team over at Signature Brew who have been brewing music-inspired beers and supporting live music since 2011. Their award-winning core beers include the Studio Lager, which is a staple in bars and venues around the country and has been known to have been found in iconic recording studios such as Metropolis and Strongroom in East London. This week we’re hunting down Rolo Tomassi, major man-crushing on Guy Pearce (again) and giving ourselves nicknames all while discussing the 1997 cult classic ‘L.A. Confidential’. L.A. Confidential is a 1997 American neo-noir crime film directed, produced and co-written by Curtis Hanson. The screenplay by Hanson and Brian Helgeland is based on James Ellroy's 1990 novel of the same name, the third book in his L.A. Quartet series. The film tells the story of a group of LAPD officers in 1953, and the intersection of police corruption and Hollywood celebrity. The title refers to the 1950s scandal magazine Confidential, portrayed in the film as Hush-Hush. We Watched A Thing is supported by Dendy Cinemas Canberra. It's almost here! Polaris are set to debut their second album The Death Of Me NEXT WEEK and to get you all kinds of ready for the masterpiece, this week we've got drummer/songwriter Daniel Furnari co-hosting the podcast to chat all about it. It's no secret the band have absolutely exploded over the past couple of years, scoring rave reviews from fans and critics alike, receiving an ARIA Nomination for their debut album The Mortal Coil and taking international audiences by storm every time they visit... But despite all of their success, the band still see themselves a long way away from where most of us place them and Dan discusses their rise to fame, their progression as musicians and how no matter what direction their music journey takes them, they'll always be trying new things to find their place in the heavy music world. One of the humblest blokes you'll ever come across so dive right into the world of Polaris before you get left behind. Podcast host Browny also takes a look at Enter Shikari's newly announced album Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible and their first single from it 'The Dreamers Hotel' as well as the beginning of the end of Dream On Dreamer who announced they'll be calling it quits after 11 years of making music together. We discuss successes, mistakes, highs, lows and dive head-first into a lengthy diversionary diatribe about music streaming wherein Alex single-handedly devises an idea to save the music industry at large. Merry (belated) Xmas everyone!! It may not seem like the winter holidays around here, what with the lack of Christmasy-type tunes. But we're still in the giving spirit as this week we present not one but two kick ass interviews. Good Fight recording artists Cryptodira are currently killing it on the road in support of their label debut "The Devil's Despair". We sat down and spoke with the whole squad discussing touring Europe, working with Good Fight, and the band's musical recommendations. Direct support came from Boston hometowners Chuggernaut. An awesome band we had to speak with as well for an "Extended Indie Spotlight". In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss meeting and photographing Dave Ellefson (!!) and dissect a recent survey about imbibing at concerts. Musically, we crank the latest releases from our guests, plus new tunes from Outer Heaven, Rolo Tomassi, and Inoculated Life! Horns!! This Episode is sponsored by Trve Kvlt Coffee.
We recap music from 2018's first quarter, including Migos, MGMT, Car Seat Headrest, Mount Eerie, U.S. Girls, Rolo Tomassi, JPEGMAFIA, Portal, A.A.L., and more.

"Like all regular Holy Roar Podcast listeners I was gutted when Maz began his hiatus when he hit episode 50. So I got proactive and sent the Holy Roar team over a pilot of my own to see if I could follow in his footsteps and be the new host. They were game and now hopefully you lot will be game too. Over the next few months I’ll be interviewing a stack of bands and music industry types; it’ll be ace, nonstop ace I tell ya. In this pilot you can hear a young James Spence from Rolo Tomassi talk about the Hysterics album, also, I will let you in on some secrets of how not to be a journalist and also give you a rundown of my picks for Download Festival 2018." - Paul

What happens when you get to chat to one of the nicest, most appreciative members of the heavy music industry? You get Episode 23 of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall with Cancer Bats frontman Liam Cormier co-hosting. Maybe it's the Canadian in him or maybe it's because he's just a down-to-earth guy like the rest of us who not only appreciates good music, but plays in one of the best upcoming hardcore acts to ever grace this planet. The boys are about to head down to Australia to support Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes but we grabbed the "bat-man" to chat about the current state of the music industry and get his thoughts on all the controversy that seems to be in the spotlight at the moment. He also talks about the band's love for cover songs and if there's any new music on the way for eager fans who need another fix. Podcast host Browny also plays BRAND NEW music for Story of The Year, Machine Head, Cursed Earth and Melbourne's very own Earth Caller who release their latest album Crystal Death next month. Plus there's plenty of throwbacks from Deez Nuts, Emmure, Rolo Tomassi, Every Time I Die, letlive. and heaps more. #WoSUATW #Podcast #CancerBats #LiamCormier #HeavyMetal #Hardcore #Punk #Emmure #RoloTomassi #StoryOfTheYear #SOTY #Architects #EarthCaller #letive #MachineHead #DeezNuts #Silverstein #EveryTimeIDie #ETID #WallOfSoundAU

As angsty teens breaking out of a village near Sheffield in England, Rolo Tomassi always knew they'd have to stand out among the pack. 12 years on, they're adults with four albums under their belts and a handful of world tours completed. That rage has been maintained, however; and they still put on one of the best live shows in all of post-hardcore. The band were in Australia for the fourth time this past October for a headlining tour, and the band's founding members - siblings Eva and James Spence - cosied up in the stairwell next to Rad Bar in Wollongong to talk about their early days, their DIY ethics and what's kept them going all this time.
