00:00:00 – Power Outages & Alex Jones Madness The show kicks off with banter about coffee, power outages, and how this is "the one" episode to watch. Alex Jones clips are then featured—ranging from chaotic rants, bizarre Thomas Jefferson misquotes, and wild conspiratorial tangents about Santa costumes and secret grand juries. 00:10:00 – Red-Eyed Aliens & Sleep-Deprived Man The hosts tease a future segment about red-eyed alien abductions involving a Muslim-Christian couple in Australia. They also speculate on the Flatwoods Monster's glowing red eyes and mention the finale of The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch. Then, a story is discussed about a UK man who claims to have been unable to sleep for two years, detailing his horrifying physical and mental deterioration. 00:20:00 – Comets, Conspiracies & Star Trek Parallels The conversation continues about the sleepless man before shifting to a baffling space object called 3I-ATLAS. It's discussed as possibly being a probe or alien craft, with a supposed leaked NASA memo suggesting it's under intelligent control. The team humorously compares it to Star Trek plots involving alien communication. 00:30:00 – Bigfoot Corpse at the State Fair A man named “Snake” claims to have found and displayed a Bigfoot corpse at the New York State Fair. The hosts express skepticism, noting the suspicious nature of the body and lack of video evidence. Local news coverage is played, showing the man's enthusiastic claims about battling Bigfoots and showcasing the corpse to fairgoers. 00:40:00 – Critique of the Bigfoot Body & State Fair Highlights Further discussion of the suspect Bigfoot corpse ensues. It's described as looking like a glued-together arts and crafts project. The hosts then shift to reviewing the New York State Fair offerings—deep-fried food, rooster crowing contests, and odd musical acts. A humorous critique of tribute bands and bizarre fair events follows. 00:50:00 – Skull with a Stalagmite & Mayo Firestarter The show shifts to a 300,000-year-old skull found in Greece with a stalagmite growing through it, puzzling scientists. Then, a man in Spain is arrested for setting a café on fire after being denied mayonnaise. The team jokes about male rage, potential mayo clinics, and cultural condiment preferences. 01:00:00 – Stablecoins, Chinese Students & AI Mayhem Discussion jumps to financial headlines, including stablecoins potentially draining bank deposits and Donald Trump proposing to allow 600,000 Chinese students into U.S. colleges. The team jokes about “China” using an old Trump clip. News is also covered about a Saudi-built Islamic AI chatbot and a hacker who used AI to conduct a massive cyberattack. 01:10:00 – AI-Powered Cybercrime & Tacos The cyberattack details are expanded, noting how a hacker used AI to write ransomware demands and find exploitable data. Then, attention turns to a taco-eating contest in San Antonio offering a $10,000 prize. The sign-up has already closed, disappointing the hosts. Joe is humorously nominated to compete. 01:20:00 – Taco Contest Fallout & Zuckerberg's Bunkers Further complaints about the closed taco contest continue. The show then dives into Mark Zuckerberg's massive compound in Palo Alto, where he handed out noise-canceling headphones to neighbors due to constant construction. The hosts mock the billionaire's efforts to maintain privacy while disrupting the neighborhood with “hydro floors” and private schools. 01:30:00 – Zuckerberg's Noise Diplomacy The crew wraps up their critiques of Zuckerberg's sprawling estate, suggesting his gestures like wine and doughnuts to neighbors are tone-deaf. There's some light commentary on his bizarre bunker expansions and the absurdity of Silicon Valley billionaires. 01:40:00 – Orgy Dome Controversy at Burning Man The team discusses a controversy involving someone being kicked out of the “Orgy Dome” at Burning Man for witnessing something disturbing. They mock the corporatization of Burning Man, suggesting brands like Little Caesars or Taco Cabana might soon sponsor the orgy tent. An Instagram photo of the dome's condition is referenced, and there's satire about how far the festival has strayed from its roots. 01:50:00 – Pumpkin Spice Chaos & White Elephant Nightmares A bizarre story unfolds about someone ordering 25 pounds of pumpkin spice online, leading to jokes about spice jungles and white elephant gifts. The team riffs on absurd workplace gift exchanges, packages with suspicious wrapping, and household pumpkin spice overloads—flavored water, scented air, and even garden tools. The hosts end on this autumnal madness with a final round of laughs. I know you all think the Tour de France is the best Grandy of the year, but you're wrong. For me, it's all about the Vuelta.  The Vuelta a España is the grand tour I started the most in my career, racing 7 Vueltas over the years. It was my first grand tour way back in 2012, and I have really fond memories of racing in Spain. The atmosphere, the culture, the relaxed vibe at the end of the season; I had some hard moments at the Vuelta, for sure, but on the whole it was always a great race for me. I am a massive fan. Speaking of massive fans, it's time to check in with the Race Radio boys, Harry & Stu. They've recovered after their trip to the Tour, and they're back with their old mate Cillian Kelly in tow, bringing you all the stats you could ever possibly need. Here's what the bald bonced bandit Harry has to say about this month's ep: ‘With La Vuelta underway, we thought we'd invite our good friend Cillian Kelly on the show this week. Cillian is TNT's official statman, providing the race commentators with all manner of fascinating facts and curiosities to read out at the grand tours. He shares a few of his Vuelta-related gems with us – including revealing one Merckx-related fact that shocks us to our core – before we go on to discuss strange sprints, how we ‘consume' cycling, and baking bread on the Muur.' I loved hearing the boys yarn with Cillian. If you like what you heard, you can check out their other pod ‘DNF' where Harry, Stu, and Dr Kelly break down some of the wildest statistical gems in the sport. I also spoke to Cillian back in July for a special episode of Life In The Peloton all about the financial stability of pro cycling so if you missed that, get back across and give that a listen, too. Guys, I hope you enjoy this month's episode and the Vuelta! It's maybe the one race I really miss - mainly because I could usually get away with a few pequeña cervezas in the evening. Catch up soon! Urban Planning in Nazi Germany: Attack, Triumph, Terror in the European Context, 1933–1945 (DOM, 2025) is edited by Uwe Altrock, Harald Bodenschatz, Victoria Grau, Jannik Noeske, Christiane Post, and Max Welch Guerra. The book includes contributions from Christian von Oppen, Piero Sassi, and Jannik Noeske.  Two co-editors, Victoria Grau and Max Welch Guerra, join the New Books Network to discuss this work. In this book, urban planning under the Nazi dictatorship is for the first time examined not only as something that evolved during the different periods of Nazi rule but also in the context of other European dictatorships of the time. The period between 1933 and 1945 saw important changes in the focus of Nazi urban planning. These affected the cast of principal actors, the content of the regime's propaganda, cities and areas affected, programs and practices, and winners and losers. The result of this survey is a multi-layered picture that goes beyond the usual presentation of well-known power-projecting buildings to consider a range of other important aspects including housing construction, urban renewal, internal colonization, buildings for rearmament, large-scale infrastructure, industrial areas, educational institutions, and camps. This volume marks the conclusion of a series of academic publications about urban planning and dictatorship – in the Soviet Union, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Urban Planning in Nazi Germany: Attack, Triumph, Terror in the European Context, 1933-1945 is the English language edition of Stadtbau im Nationalsozialismus: Angriff, Triumph, Terror im europäischen Kontext, 1933–1945. Photography is a journey, and sometimes that journey intersects with another, and that's what today's episode is all about. For those who don't know, the Camino de Santiago or Way of St. James is a network of pilgrim ways all leading to the Shrine of the Apostle James at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. And a couple of months ago, it was completed by a friend of the podcast, James McFarlane. James and Alex sit down to talk about the journey, the photography, and how it changed him. It's something a little different for the podcast, but something that needed to be done. Andy began her artistic journey as a flamenco dancer, studying in Australia and Spain before performing worldwide. She talks about her family's musical roots, the challenges of injuries, and meeting her husband—a classically trained pianist and former ballet dancer—during a rehearsal for "Carmen." Now based in Las Vegas, Andy shares how she draws inspiration from Chick Corea, crafts songs through collaboration, and recorded her new album across several cities over the course of a year. From the unpredictability of live performance to the quiet focus of meditation before a show, Andy brings passion, discipline, and artistry to every stage she steps on. At the end of the 15th century, Spain had almost completed the Reconquista and the removal of the Caliphate in the Iberian Peninsula, ending centuries of Islamic rule. One of the first things they did was usher in an attempt to unify and purify the country as a Catholic one, rather than a multi-religious one.  After receiving permission from the Pope, the Spanish monarchy persecuted hundreds of thousands of people for the crime of not being Catholic. For a few years in the middle of the nineteenth century, Mexico was ruled by an Austrian and defended by a French army. This often neglected story is more than just historical trivia - it's a way of understanding 19th century imperial politics, and global insurgencies today. In Habsburgs on the Rio Grande: The Rise and Fall of the Second Mexican Empire (Harvard UP, 2024), University of Washington professor Raymond Jonas explains the genesis, course, and end of this strange twist in the historical record. Jonas argues that, even deep into the nineteenth century, a successful American republic posed an existential threat to European monarchies, so much so that in the early 1860s a combined force of Spain, France, and Britain sent soldiers to North America to impose a monarchy on an unwilling population. The Second Empire under Emperor Maximilian I was short lived, however, and his rule never extended much past the capital city. Yet as Jonas argues, the fact that Mexican anti-monarchist partisans could fight the might of Europe and oust the monarchy has lessons to teach today about autocracy and resistance in the early twenty first century. In one of his final official acts before he died, Pope Francis put Antoni Gaudí, Spain's most famous architect, onto the path to sainthood. Gaudí's masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, is a towering basilica, strangely designed and bursting with colour. It stands in the heart of Barcelona and its walls recount the entire story of the Catholic religion. After 140 years, having survived wars, arson attacks and dictatorship, it is still under construction. As Gaudí worked on it throughout his life, he became obsessive and it intensified his devotion. By the end of his life he was living like a monk. The BBC's Max Horberry has been to Barcelona to see Gaudí's work and speak to the people who have been working to finish the Sagrada Familia and campaigning for Gaudí's sainthood. He finds out more about the path to sainthood and how architecture, nature and religion intertwine in Gaudí's life. This episode of The Documentary, comes to you from Heart and Soul, exploring personal approaches to spirituality from around the world.

Tyre established a trading colony called Tarshish (thought to be in modern-day Spain) which boasted impressive ships. Assyria attempted to take Tyre a number of times, but it was Nebuchadnezzar who first infiltrated the island city, followed by Alexander the Great who destroyed it. Why Cultural Intelligence Beats Language Skills in International Sales (Ask Jeb)

Here's a question that'll flip your understanding of cultural intelligence in sales upside down: How do you win over a room full of skeptical Spanish teenagers when you're the obvious American outsider who barely speaks their language? That's exactly what Spencer Birmingham from Arkansas faced when he called into Ask Jeb. Fresh out of college with a marketing degree and an internship at International Paper under his belt, Spencer was heading to Spain for eight months as a language teaching assistant. His challenge? Figure out how to connect with Spanish students and "sell" them on American culture and the English language. What started as a simple question about gaining cultural perspective turned into a must-listen discussion of the universal principles of influence—principles that work whether you're closing deals in boardrooms or winning over teenagers in Spanish classrooms. The Universal Language of Human Connection Spencer had already absorbed one of the key lessons from Sales EQ—the brown paper bag of bread story about understanding what matters to your prospect. But he was struggling to see how those principles would translate across cultural and language barriers. Here's the breakthrough: The five core decisions people make before they buy into you—Do I like you? Do you listen to me? Do you make me feel important? Do you get me? Do I trust and believe you?—are universal. They transcend language, culture, and geography. Whether you're selling software to executives in Atlanta or teaching English to teenagers in Madrid, every human being makes these same emotional decisions before they'll open their hearts and minds to your message. The Listening Advantage That Trumps Language Barriers Most teachers (and salespeople) make the same fatal mistake: They walk in talking. They assume their job is to deliver information, share knowledge, and demonstrate expertise. Wrong approach. The secret weapon that works in every culture? Start by listening. Instead of walking into that Spanish classroom and immediately launching into English lessons, what if Spencer started by asking questions: "Tell me something about yourself that not many people know. What are your biggest challenges with English? Why do you want to learn this language?" This approach leverages what we know about human psychology in complex sales: When you listen first, you accomplish three critical things simultaneously. First, you demonstrate likability through genuine interest. Second, you prove you're actually listening—the foundation of all trust. Third, you make people feel important, which is the most insatiable human need. Speaking Their Language (Even When You Don't) Here's where it gets fascinating. Spencer worried about the language barrier, but that's actually his biggest opportunity. The language that matters most isn't Spanish or English—it's the language of being a teenager in Spain. It's the language of their challenges, their dreams, their world. When Spencer takes what they share about themselves and incorporates it into his lessons, suddenly he's not the outsider trying to force American culture on them. He becomes the person who gets them. "Remember when you told me about your soccer tournament? Let's practice describing that experience in English." Suddenly, English isn't a foreign concept—it's a tool for expressing what matters to them. This mirrors exactly what happens in complex sales. The most successful salespeople don't speak the language of their product features—they speak the language of their prospect's business challenges, industry pressures, and personal goals. The Power of Making People Feel Heard There's a reason why building trust through active listening is foundational to every sales methodology: It's the fastest way to move from outsider to trusted advisor. Spanish teenagers, like buyers everywhere, are drowning in noise. Everyone's talking at them—parents, teachers, social media.
