This week in Vegas history: June 4, 2020, Nevada casinos reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown. After more than two months closed, casinos across Las Vegas began reopening, including properties on the Strip, downtown, and around the valley. The D and Golden Gate reopened at 12:01 a.m., while other properties followed later that day. NEWS: Fertitta Entertainment is buying Caesars Entertainment in a deal valued at $17.6 billion, including about $11.9 billion in assumed debt. The deal would take Caesars private. Shareholders would receive $31 per share, which Reuters describes as nearly a 50% premium to Caesars' stock price before the deal was first reported in February. Tilman Fertitta's company already owns Golden Nugget casinos, the Houston Rockets, and a large restaurant/hospitality portfolio, including brands like Rainforest Café and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Caesars has been under pressure from softer Las Vegas visitation and growing competition in online betting, where rivals like FanDuel and DraftKings are stronger. Caesars' current leadership is expected to stay, including CEO Tom Reeg and CFO Bret Yunker. The deal includes a “go-shop” period through July 11, meaning Caesars can still consider competing offers. If completed, the acquisition would give Fertitta a much larger casino footprint: Caesars controls more than 50 casinos across North America, including Caesars Palace, Harrah's, and Eldorado, plus retail and online sports betting. The article notes the deal could face regulatory scrutiny because of the size and scope of the combined gaming/hospitality business. Vital Vegas reports that a private grand opening party for the newly rebranded Vanderpump Hotel will be held on June 11. The Heart Attack Grill closed abruptly on May 18. The property posted a passive aggressive rant on their door, stating that the closure was due to casinos pricing out average Americans. EDC goes to two weekends next year The plan was billed as a way to reduce crowds by spreading them out over two weekends, lol The first of those weekends, “EDC Dusk,” will roll out from May 14-16. The second, “EDC Dawn,” is set for May 21-23, while the full “Dusk Till Dawn Experience” will party from May 13-24. Johnny Kats is reporting that a new magic-based show “Now You See Me Live” will be moving into the David Copperfield theater at MGM Grand. Soul Belly BBQ, has opened a new location in the Miracle Mile shops. New Mirage bar at MGM Grand pool. A user on reddit posted photos of signs at the MGM Grand pool area, directing patrons to a new “Mirage Bar,” complete with the former strip property's iconic palm trees logo. A look at the pool complex map on the MGM Grand website confirms the change. The site was formerly called the “Splash Bar” and is located between the “Splash Pool” and “Reserve Pool.” MGM Resorts has retained the rights to the Mirage name after selling the Mirage resort site to Hard Rock International. Tailgate Social, Mandalay Bay's answer to Stadium Swim at Circa downtown, officially opened on May 16. Snoop Dogg performed at the opening The 50,000-square-foot venue features more than 125 feet of LED screens, three heated pools, 25 luxury cabanas, and two premium bungalows The Clark County commission will be voting to extend the annual Las Vegas Grand Prix, potentially through 2037. Nellie's Southern Kitchen Closing: The Jonas family restaurant near MGM Grand closed after May 25 service, reducing Southern comfort food options on the Strip. Drink Las Vegas, a culinary and cocktail festival, will run from Sept. 24 through 27 at four MGM Resorts properties: Aria, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan, Park MGM. “Drink Las Vegas” will incorporate an opening party, panels and seminars, food and cocktail tastings, lunches, dinners and other experiences at more than 30 venues inside the properties. The event recently announced the chefs, restaurateurs, mixologists, sommeliers and other hospitality professionals who are participating. Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is reporting its strongest casino performance since reopening in 2021. The property has adjusted its focus to Las Vegas residents first-quarter 2026 data showed slot revenue up nearly 30 percent, coin-in up 10 percent, and table games revenue up 88 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Tony: Vital Vegas reports the Luxor is getting a new atrium light show. No word on when the show will debut. The Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche in round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs This is the third time the team has become the Western Conference champions in their 9-year history Though the Eastern Conference champions are still undecided at the time of recording, it's likely that the Golden Knights will face the Carolina Hurricanes in their bid for another Stanley Cup win. Oceans 11 returning to theaters Ocean's Eleven is returning to theaters nationwide on June 21 and June 24, 2026, for a special 25th-anniversary re-release as part of Fathom Entertainment's Big Screen Classics series.

Sebastiáo Salgado's GOLD is a book about obsession: "What is it about a dull yellow metal that drives men to abandon their homes, sell their belongings, and cross a continent in order to risk life, limb and sanity for a dream?" Serra Pelada-Bald Mountain, in Brazil's Pará State, was an open-air mine for 10 years, but the relevance of this collection is timeless. GOLD is a major document of modern history and an extraordinary photographic portfolio. Its publication also marked a period of international recognition for Salgado, and offered black and white photography, a renaissance of sorts. This story is also a parable which can offer us a timeless mirror image through which to analyze humanity's fast profit and maximum effort formulas of exploitation. El Dorado definitely seems to be a legend that humanity refuses to outgrow; and the price of such schemes just keeps becoming steeper.

Interview with Philippe Cloutier, President & CEO of Cartier Resources Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/cartier-resources-inc-tsxvecr-continuous-focused-drilling-resource-update-ahead-9429Recording date: 21st April 2026Cartier Resources Inc. occupies a rare piece of real estate in the global gold mining landscape. The Quebec-based junior explorer holds the only remaining significant exploration position on a 50-kilometre stretch of the Cadillac Fault in Abitibi — Canada's most prolific gold-producing structure — flanked on all sides by producing mines owned by majors including Agnico Eagle, Eldorado, and IAMGold. With a market capitalisation of approximately $120 million and $7 million in cash, the company has quietly consolidated 15 kilometres of strike length along the fault, defining 3.2 million ounces of gold across four distinct mineralisation types. That variety of deposit styles is central to CEO Philippe Cloutier's investment thesis: this isn't a single-zone story, but a camp-scale system with multiple potential deposits that together could determine the optimal layout for a future mining operation. The most immediate challenge facing Cartier is the disconnect between its current public economic assessment and reality. Its 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment modelled a standalone mill at $1,750 per ounce gold — well below today's prices — producing capital cost figures that look punishing by current standards. An updated scoping study is in progress, expected to incorporate recent shallow high-grade discoveries, metallurgical results, and scenarios involving toll milling through neighbouring producers with excess capacity. No release date has been confirmed.Agnico Eagle's major shareholding and the recent board appointment of industry veteran Glenn Mullan signal institutional confidence in the asset. The company is 50% through its current drill program, having already met all initial objectives, with new discoveries prompting a revised approach to the remaining work.Near-term catalysts include updated economics at current gold prices, continued drill results, a planned OTC QB listing to reach U.S. retail investors, and growing M&A interest as senior producers seek permitted, development-ready projects.View Cartier Resources' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/cartier-resources-incSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

English statesman, author, soldier, explorer, and a favorite courtier of England's Tudor Queen Elizabeth the First, Sir Walter Raleigh (1552-1618) was one of the most notable figures of the Elizabethan era. He played a leading part in English colonization of North America and helped defend England against the Spanish Armada. He was the younger half-brother of North American explorer Sir Humphrey Gilbert and a cousin of adventurer Sir Richard Grenville. In 1594, Raleigh heard of a "City of Gold" in the New World and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to find it, publishing an account of his experiences in a book that contributed to the legend of "El Dorado".

A rare audio interview with Dame Katy (transcript below) in which she bares ALLWe're backstage at DKD's one womxn show, in the Barnsley British Region for injured and infirm trans womxn veteransJulie – it's you! They said there was a lady wanting to see me.(Shouts to security) I say Doreen - this ain't no lady - its Julie! Tell her carer we'll be 5 minutes max!Dame Katy, I am beside myself with excitement, here I am in the venue, with a few of my lezzer friends, Talking about how brilliant it is the hour 1970s fashion choices now appear to be briefly trendy again, and I realise it's you on the bill! I was told it was a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute. You were lucky to get past Doreen, Julie. I've just taken her on. She used to work for Chappell Roan but sadly she was a bit too heavy handed. I blame the parents, Doreen wasn't to know that kiddie had brittle bone disease - a head lock never did me no harm!I'd offer you a drink Julie but it looks like you've had enough! It's so good to see you & always in that trusty cardi. What I've always said about you Julie is that you don't give in to trends. Everyone's jabbing away with the Ozempic and here's you looking like you've spent a fortnight on an all inclusive in Benidorm. You're not in the family way are you? I told you to steer clear of Pisshead Pat!So I'm guessing you're wanting another exclusive? Book sales flagging? I was sorry to hear about your last effort. The vicar said it was a book he couldn't wait to put down! Oh by the way I saw your ex husband the other week, that James Dreyfus, he was outside Bargain Booze scratching around the bins trying to bum a fag. He said he'd do owt for £20 so I've got him coming to do the gutters next week.Julie:Thank you Dame Katy, can I just say how fabulous you look and what an amazing show! ‘Puppetry of the Shenis'. Who knew your meat and two veg could be so ambidextrous!DKD:Its attracting rave reviews Julie! There was a queue around the block on press night. You couldn't move for celebrities - I was literally beating off a well known boy band desperate to see a glimpse of my opening. It all started one night when I was watching Channel 4 and this lady, (sporting one of Cher's old wigs and a cheap blouse), was playing the keyboard with her micro penis - the crowd were lapping it up! Well I thought to myself, I've got a least 5 inches on her and if that's what passes for entertainment these days then sign me up!Fast forward a few months and here we are! It's a 2 part show Julie, first half I do impressions with my shenis - Donald Trump, Noel Edmonds, Bob Marley - my ‘No Woman No Cry' leaves folk speechless. Then second half I do expressionist dance to the Greatest Hits of Eurovision - I saw your little eyes light up when I whipped off my skirt during ‘Making Your Mind Up' and you got to see my ‘Ding A Dong'. There's a lot of talk of me transferring to Broadway - mind you, its' me whose doing all the talking!Julie:What about politics Dame Katy. You were strongly rumoured to be standing in the next election.DKD:Standing? Is that a cheap dig? Anyway, it's just a rumour Julie. Granted, I am one of the most impotent voices in queer politics right now but I saw how them Brighton gays treated poor Eddie Izzard. Apparently they saw her as just a joke candidate with a pink beret and a pair of plastic tits. Can you imagine if I won? Working in the House of Parliament? I could end up having a heated three way with Nigel Farage & Zack Polanski (Again!). I haven't got the time anyway Julie, I'm helping out an old friend whose fallen on bad times. You remember that ex P.A turned struggling author pal of mine?Julie:JK Rowling?DKD:She who must not be named! Yes, well she's only been telling folk her little wizarding hustle is being turned into a TV series. You've got to laugh! It'll be like ‘Eldorado' all over again. She's a complete fantasist! But I said I'd help her out with the scripts so I've added a new character into the mix to get the green haired they/them brigade back on side. It's a new Hogwarts Teacher who takes the Gender Queer Studies classes. She's trans, she's a doctor, a Pride of Britain award winner and an ex model. As the series progresses, she takes centre stage with her magical powers - she can literally turn men into women just by saying it! Can you believe that? I know it's a bit far fetched - it makes Stranger Things look like a documentary, but I reckon it will be a big hit with the LGBTQOMDU2+ community who enjoy living in a world of make believe. Some say TV has got too woke and we shouldn't keep on forcing this queer manifesto down people's throats, but I'm not complaining!Julie:I don't know where you find the time Dame Katy. Million selling books, charity endeavours, script writing, cabaret shows... is there no start to your talents?DKDI surprise myself Julie! And you won't believe this - the Royal Mail's been in touch wanting to commemorate me on a stamp! My head literally being licked by thousands! Then there's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here - but do I really want to be dropped into overgrown Australian bush? I bet you wouldn't say no Julie! I'll give it some thought; the money's good but its them challenges that put me off - dark confined spaces, putting dodgy stuff in my mouth - I'm getting flashbacks to the toilets in Heaven 1997! Plus I wouldn't want to risk them putting Boy George back on the show; his luxury item would be a radiator and I'd spend the next 3 week handcuffed to it like some trans Terry Waite!JulieDid you hear the news about your arch nemesis, Lynsay Watson?DKDHear the news? I nearly laughed my bollocks off seeing her being bundled into the back of that Police van, Julie. Absolute state of it. I thought they were nicking Meatloaf at first! Worzel Gummidge's hair was in better nick than that! I've seen some photo filters do some heavy lifting but that's just taking the piss - proof positive that the camera does lie and you can polish a turd! To think she used to be a copper; I bet her helmet was always filthy! But I don't hold a grudge Julie. Someone with skin that looks like the surface of Mars should be pitied really. Plus I'm not a vengeful woman (god strike down anyone one says I am), I've even bought a special chair for her, just needs a few hundred volts putting through it.**knock at the door**I don't get a minute to myself. If that's Fat Tony wanting to borrow 20 grand again they'll be hell to pay. I've got to be up early as they've invited me back on Woman's Hour to discuss the sticky subject of female sperm - apparently folk are resistant to talk about it as it always leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.Watch how you go Julie, there's a man in a beat up old Fiat 500 in the car park, I reckon he sleeps in it. Looks like the lovechild of Jimmy Saville with bad hair plugs, ranting and foaming at the mouth. Tells anyone that listens that he used to read the news on TV - I said ‘yeah, and I shagged Trevor McDonald!'.....Doreen if you could see Julie out, AFTER she's put my purse back! Episode 164 features Brian “Herbie” Herbertson, head brewer at Lucky Luke Brewing (Santa Clarita, Palmdale, Lancaster). Mike and Herbie dig into his path from homebrewing and touring with bands to commercial brewing, winning awards, and pivoting through COVID to grow Lucky Luke's three locations. The conversation covers brewing philosophy and techniques (yeast management, tank scheduling), favorite hops and styles (Simcoe, Eldorado, HBC 630, Dulcita; lagers, West Coast IPAs, hazies), balancing creativity with consistency, and industry trends like lower‑ABV session lagers. They also discuss community-focused initiatives — local music, food trucks, fundraisers, disc golf collaborations — and brewery identity (tap handle tools, song‑inspired beer names). Highlights include stories from memorable brew days and events, Herbie's favorite beers and guilty pleasures, his Mount Rushmore of influential breweries, and why craft brewers should engage their neighborhoods to build sustainable brands. Expect a friendly, wide‑ranging chat about beer, music, pizza, and life in the brew house.
