Hi friends! Today's topic was inspired by a conversation with a client who's been struggling with body image. She's been setting the intention to feel neutral about her body each day, but those intrusive thoughts keep showing up. And that got me thinking—how often do we try to control how we feel and the get frustrated when that doesn't work? Here's the thing: we can't control our feelings, just like we can't control where we lose weight or how fast we build muscle. But what we can control are our actions—the small, daily things that lead to change over time. I share some strategies my client and I came up with that can help shift the focus from those uncontrollable feelings to actions so you can actually make a difference. In this episode, we'll cover:Why trying to control your feelings might be setting you up for failureThe power of focusing on actions instead of outcomesPractical tips for improving body image without obsessing over weightHow small daily habits can lead to big changes in how you feelThis episode is all about shifting your mindset from obsessing over outcomes to embracing the power of what you can control. Before the Yummy Mummy Experience (YMX), my client Sierra was like so many of us moms: a very busy woman who just wanted the physical energy to succeed in her career and still be able to play with her kids at the end of the day. But instead, she was too tired for almost anything.Sierra had never really had issues with her weight until she became a mom. 4 kids later, and it was harder and harder to lose weight after every pregnancy. As a pediatrician, Sierra had a full practice of patients which left her trying to energize herself with the snacks and sweet treats that were always around. But her low energy just could not fuel her life. She felt terrible. Not only had she worked so hard to become a physician, but she had always wanted to be a mom, and now she was literally just TOO tired to spend any real time with her kids. She knew something had to change.Sierra did one of my Instagram weight loss challenges and lost 8 pounds in just one month. When she saw those results, she knew she wanted to really commit to YMX and lose weight for the last time. New Yummy Mummy Experience client, Carolyn, joined me to get coached about struggling with food cravings, changing her thought patterns, and setting goals with soul.YES, you're going to get so much out of this episode today to help you on your journey!Carolyn is enjoying retirement between the two locales she calls home – California and Idaho – and is DONE struggling with her weight at this phase in her life. She's ready to lose weight for the last time, and that's exactly what she's going to get in YMX. Today's episode is a sneak peek of the work we do in YMX when a Yum Mum faces an obstacle to their weight loss progress, and we dive in to solve it. In Carolyn's case, she was carrying around a specific thought that was creating a feeling of inadequacy:“I don't lose weight easily.”Seems harmless enough on the surface, right? It might even seem like a fact. But the reality is it's a sentence in Carolyn's brain creating the feeling that she's incapable of weight loss. And what does Carolyn (or any of us) want to do when she feels incapable? Give up. We broke down exactly how our thoughts create our actions which then create our RESULTS. To get the results we want, we talked about using thoughts that DO serve us instead of ones that DON'T – no criticism or toxic positivity needed. It's time for a kind weight loss mindset. Listen in and you'll hear more about: Learning from the past versus making it mean we failedThe motivational triad and how that affects our brain when losing weightHow to use the concept of ‘net positive' when making food choicesThe power of baby steps instead of black-or-white thinking AND, if you didn't sign up in time for the January Yummy Mummy Experience, NO WORRIES. A critical part of a pharmacist's job is ensuring the proper dose of a medication is provided to patients. They can do this by checking the dose with the patient's weight, especially with pediatric patients. If the dose is incorrect, it can cause adverse effects of an overdose or not work effectively because it is under-dosed. In this week's conversation, Jake Galdo talks with Kelsey Holder, a Clinical Pharmacist at SEMO Rx Pharmacies and PGY-1 Resident with the University of Missouri - Kansas City about the importance of collecting pediatric weight to ensure better patient care. In this episode we cover:The multi-factorial, neuro-behavioral, and psychological effects of obesityHow you and your loved ones can overcome the battle associated with weightHow you can recreate your story How you can reinvent yourself even in midlifeHow to turn your personal pain into purposeEmail:goldwynfoggie@comcast.netPhone: 872-702-4254Brand/Organization Name:Illinois Wellness and Weight Loss CentersWebsite:https://ilweightloss.comFacebook:https://facebook.com/illinoiswellnessInstagram:@ilweightlossTwitter:@ilweightloss Dr. Goldwyn Foggie and Carla Bonner are two sisters who have left their primary careers to build a wellness practice. Dr. Foggie's passion stemmed from her desire to help people avoid chronic disease and obesity-related illness after the loss of loved ones. Carla's passion came from suffering from her personal struggle with obesity. Their ministry is assisting others in overcoming battles associated with weight (which is a multi-factorial, neuro-behavioral, and psychological disease).Dr. Foggie is a native Chicagoan, a graduate of Northwestern University as well as the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She practiced Obstetrics/Gynecology for over 20 years. Her parents suffered from obesity and struggled with kidney failure, amputations, cancer, and heart disease. Watching both of her parents live with these health challenges sparked her commitment to better nutrition and fitness and it made her want to help her patients as well. In 2016 she launched the Illinois Wellness and Weight Loss Centers (IWWLC). Dr. Foggie helped her sister, Carla, shed over 100 pounds. After seeing the results of her commitment to herself, Carla left her career of 30 years as a chemical lab technician to join Dr. Foggie as a Certified Health Coach/Consultant and together they are dedicated to transforming lives. Carla then began her ministry, Journey to Wholeness which promotes lifestyle changes by educating and instilling healthy food habits that decrease the risk and impact of obesity. Episode #17. Cravings & Emotional Eating with Nancy Bruce - In today's episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Nancy Bruce on the topic of emotional eating, cravings and weight loss. She struggled with yo-yo weight loss cycles and the emotional toll that comes with it. When her son was diagnosed with Autism, in her early 30's, she began researching and training in alternative care and treatment strategies. Once she began to feed her family real food, she saw and felt immediate improvements in the well-being of her entire family. She also began to explore the underlying emotional triggers that had led her to struggle with weight and health issues for so many years. She finally shed excess weight that had troubled her for decades when she uncovered and released her subconscious weight loss blockers. It was not about the food, and it was not about lack of self-control. With decades of experience, as well as her training as a certified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner, Emotional Weight Loss Coach, and Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Nancy has developed an approach based on “healing” and empowering her clients, allowing them to feel confident and to love themselves. From that base, Nancy assists her clients in building new habits and thought patterns for a lifelong healthy lifestyle. Here is where you can find her:Website - www.lavenderlaneptw.caFacebook - www.facebook.com/lavenderlaneptwInstagram - www.instagram.com/lavender_lane_ptwBook a free "Discovery Session" - https://lavenderlane.janeapp.com/#/staff_member/14/treatment/234Say Hi on Social:Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/naturally.joyous/Pinterest – https://www.pinterest.ca/naturallyjoyouswellness/Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/pg/naturallyjoyous.wellness/Follow me on YouTube - https://youtube.com/c/naturallyjoyous See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In theory there is nothing wrong with losing a little bit of weight. But if you are using this as an excuse to start later, you can ask yourself why. Why not choose today? Choose to take good care of yourself today. Choose health instead of the urge to lose weight. “Your thoughts shape your vision. You see what you choose to see.” Maybe a bit of a controversial subject, but a necessary one. I feel like I hear a lot of women giving up on their health during lockdown. Eating and drinking everything, promising themselves to start again after lockdown. To go on a next diet and lose the lockdown weight. Besides the fact that diets don't work, I am encouraging you to ask yourself why you have a need to lose the weight. I feel like the only real reason to lose weight is for health reasons. But then, if you want to be healthy, why not choose today? Don't you and your body deserve the healthiest you today? Especially in lockdown? Of course, I am all for giving yourself some space, gratitude and grace in these hard times. But I also think the best way to do so is to take care of yourself the best way you know how. So give this episode a listen and see what new perspective gain. What you will learn listening to how to lift yourself up after emotional eating: Journal prompts to think differently around losing weightHow to shift your mindset on getting healthy after lockdownTips on stop making excusesWhere the need to lose the weight comes fromPracticing gratefulnessFree yourself from putting labels on yourselfA great exercise to choose again today Your takeaway & share the show Thank you for listening to my podcast. I had a powerful coaching session with a client last week. At the start of the session, she asked me: what's the difference between losing weight though diet mentality vs the way you teach us? Priya* (not her real name) was feeling deflated. After having some great results in the first few months of our work together and losing over a stone, she found her weight fluctuating up and down recently while she tried to get a handle on a lot of social and family events with food there. She wanted to 'get back on track' but didn't want to do a crash diet or restrict herself again. The thought of restricting again made her feel resistant and she couldn't understand why she felt so different in comparison to the start of her journey when it felt so much easier. To answer her question, we took a look at her options. In this episode, we discuss what we found through her coaching session and the power of stepping into a new identity: the future version of yourself that no longer struggles with weight. After this coaching session, Priya dropped another 6lbs (3kg) and says she feels 'back on track'. In this episode you'll hear:What it's like to lose weight with diet mentality (most of us are very familiar, and resistant to this for a good reason!)How you can get clear on your future self: the version of yourself who has figured this out and no longer struggles with her weightHow to live into that version of yourself every day as a way to lose weight permanentlyI'll share some powerful coaching questions that will help you get clarity on the future version you'd love to live intoI'd love to hear your thoughts! It is now well established that there are numerous health risks associated with being overweight. From increased blood pressure and type 2 diabetes to sleep apnea and osteoarthritis. Global estimates suggest that over 2 billion adults are overweight, with an estimated 650 million suffering from obesity. This number has tripled since 1976 and most of the world’s population now live in countries where obesity and overweight kills more than underweight. Despite the known health implications, the rising number of people who are overweight, and obese, demonstrates that people are not taking a proactive, preventative approach to their health. Oftentimes it is when people are faced with health challenges that they finally act. In this episode we discuss the impact that excess weight has on back health and why losing weight quickly could be having a negative impact on the back pain experienced by some. We highlight how some weightlifters can take advantage of their weight to support the low back during exercise whilst establishing the long-term benefits of weight loss in supporting low back health. Finally, we discuss the nutritional implications of health dietary choices on overall health and on back health so that you can start to make some changes that will support your recovery. Some of the things you’ll discover… Why weight loss could be a red flag that should be investigated to rule out sinister causes of back painHow weightlifters can take advantage of their weight to help support their lower backs during heavy liftingWhy weight loss may cause be the cause of increased back pain for some peopleWhy you need to set a foundation for exercise through good movement and core stability, not dive straight into exercise classes just to lose weightHow muscle mass in the lower back can be replaced by fat in those that have been sedentary for long periods of timeWhy nutritional choices can lead to chronic, low-grade inflammation which reduces the effectiveness of the immune system to support injury or illnessWhy consuming enough protein should be an important consideration during your rehabilitation HighlightsLosing weight quickly could be detrimental to the back health of some people. Whilst in some cases this is the result of reduced stability in the short term, most often it is the result of making the wrong choices regarding the exercise they undertake. Far too often people want to see quick results and so dive straight into aerobic classes, body pump classes, or other high intensity workouts without having established healthy movement patterns, or core strength, first. As a result, they don’t have the back stability to support their bodies during these new fitness endeavors and they compound the underlying injury. Frustratingly this can lead many to give up which is a disappointing outcome. In those people carrying excess weight, losing a few pounds will undoubtedly have a positive impact on back health if the exercise choices are the right ones. Choosing the right exercises and committing to them over the long term will result in improvements. In conjunction with a healthier diet this will allow effective, and sustainable, results. For more episodes of the Back Pain Solutions podcast visit: www.smartstrong.co.uk Don’t forget to subscribe so you can receive updates on new episodes and direct links to additional content. I've been reflecting on my weight loss journey recently and became aware of a few really common and persistent limiting beliefs about losing weight that just didn't serve me. Over more than 3 decades I yo-yo dieted and I couldn't understand why other people could be successful with diets but I couldn't. Over time I figured there must have been something wrong with me: a thyroid problem, another medical condition or maybe there was some truth in belief that weight gain is inevitable with age as your hormones change. When I started losing weight again and it actually started working I was shocked and it really rocked my world in terms of the beliefs I had created that felt so true. After 1 successful 6 week programme I lost 5-6kg (10-12lbs) and suddenly I realised what I had been thinking wasn't true. I could lose weight - I had the proof.I've realised over time that I had 3 persistent and insidious limiting beliefs that challenged me all through my weight loss journey (and still do sometimes!)- "I can't lose weight" - "Weight loss is hard" - "I won't be able to keep it off even if I do get to my goal weight"Now that I'm a weight loss coach these are also the 3 beliefs I see most commonly with my clients. The think-feel-act cycle teaches us that our actions and behaviours come from our emotions and thoughts. If we are thinking and believing these thoughts, we are failing ahead of time. We can't take continued successful action if we don't really believe its' going to work, and it's going to be hard, and we won't maintain our goal weight anyway. This week on the podcast we are focussing on:What I learned about beliefs from my 30+ years of yo yo dietingHow our limiting beliefs about weight loss make us fail before we have even startedThe 3 most common beliefs I've seen in my coaching practice around weight loss: I can't lose weight, weight loss is hard and I won't maintain my weight loss even if I do lose weight3 new thoughts to practice to create new beliefs: weight loss can be easy, weight loss can be fun, I can easily maintain my natural body weightHow to create new beliefs through journalling: ask yourself how it could be easy for you? how could it be fun? how could you learn to maintain your natural body weight?I'd love to hear your thoughts, leave a comment under the podcast episode on my website! https://keridwilliams.com/13-three-beliefs-to-fuel-weight-loss/
