The Chicago White Sox evened their series versus the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday night. Dylan Cease pitched well, surrendering 2 runs in his 6 innings of work, but it was a big 7th inning for the Sox offense that earned them the win. The first 5 batters of the inning reached base, capped off by a huge 2-run double Romy Gonzalez. The bullpen did their job from there, and they will look to win the series tomorrow afternoon. Join Herb Lawrence, Vinnie Duber and Sean Anderson as they recap the win and talk about where Jake Burger could be played defensively when Eloy Jimenez returns. All of that coming up on the CHGO White Sox LIVE Postgame Podcast. Michael Kopech was electric again pitching 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 9. What does Kopech growing as a starter mean for the Chicago White Sox for 2023 and beyond? The White Sox offense opened up as well with Luis Robert Jr. on the bench, as he deals with a sore hip. Runs were driven in by Tim Anderson, Jake Burger, Romy Gonzalez, and Seby Zavala. After a tough April where the South Siders did not win a single series, the Sox have started May by winning 5 of their 7 series this month. Episode Notes On this episode of the ACB Advocacy Update, Clark and Swatha speak with Madeleine Reichman, an attorney at Disability Rights Advocates, on a recent federal court case and ruling regarding Chicago's failure to install accessible pedestrian signals (APSs) for its blind and low vision residents and visitors at its more than 2800 signalized intersections. The case involved both DRA and the American Council of the Blind of Metropolitan Chicago, a chapter of the Illinois Council of the Blind. We discuss how the case came about, what the decision ruling Chicago is in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act means for the city and other cities across the country, and what comes next for DRA and the city of Chicago. If you need legal assistance from Disability Rights Advocates, you may email info@dralegal.org or call (510) 665-8644. Find out more at https://acb-advocacy-update.pinecast.co

He has over 20 years of clinical experience providing healthcare for people with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities and is the author of “Clinical Pearls in IDD Healthcare” (https://amzn.to/3CbeCDp) and “The Curriculum in IDD Healthcare” (https://replacingrisk.com/store/). Dr. Escude assumed the role of President of IntellectAbility in 2018. We address the importance of educating healthcare providers. Specifically, what (and how) you can do as family members, loved ones, and supporters of those with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Craig explains physicians are not trained to work with patients who have IDD. He shares his personal experiences and highlights what needs to change. We touch on abuse and neglect. As parents we'll often have a feeling something is off - we shouldn't be quick to disregard it. Medication may be necessary, but shouldn't be the immediate go-to when something suddenly changes. What environmental factors could be affecting the individual? Craig gives us concrete examples of what to look for. Helping your child live "independently" doesn't mean you have to stop advocating for them. Craig highlights the importance of having a "Health Passport". On January 15, 2020, Virginia became the critical 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA—a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that reads: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” Virginia’s ratification raised important questions about the viability of an amendment that had been stymied for decades. What does the promise of the ERA hold in the continued battle for equality and freedom? What roles have women of color played to secure the ERA? In the wake of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, what is the modern platform for women’s equality? Helping us to sort out these questions (and more) are very special guests: Jennifer Carroll Foy, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates who is running for governor in the state of Virginia. She joined the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017 where she led Virginia’s effort to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, passed legislation to combat Virginia’s teacher shortage, and voted to expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians. She established the Virginia for Everyone PAC to help elect women, people of color and millennials to the Virginia General Assembly and was one of the first African American women to graduate from Virginia Military Institute. Ellie Smeal, the co-founder and president of the Feminist Majority and the Feminist Majority Foundation and former president of the National Organization for Women. She has led efforts for the economic, political and social equality and empowerment of women worldwide for over three decades. Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton, the 48th Lieutenant Governor of Illinois.
