Vamos a verlo.

James is currently the Head of Talent Identification & Athlete Development at Elite Sport UAE and a Visiting Fellow at Northumbria University. James brings a unique blend of skills and experience as an accredited S&C coach, physical education teacher, sport scientist and researcher. His current research is focused on the effect of growth and maturation on performance in youth track and field. Previously he worked at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar as the Head of Talent Identification and Development, a senior strength and conditioning coach and performance support lead for Track and Field during his time there. In 2020, he was awarded the ASCA Senior Research Award on behalf of the Aspire Academy research team and James was also awarded the UKSCA's S&C Coach of the Year Award for Youth Sport in 2017 for his work in the school setting. QUOTES “When I used to speak to the athletics coaches about maturation, I'd say, yeah, he's an early maturer and they were like, so what? How much difference does that make?” “The mean maximum velocity for the approaching peak height velocity (PHV) group is 7.1m/s and the max velocity for the post-PHV group is 8.5m/s… So, in those situations, when you put them on the track, you can imagine how that extrapolates out over 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 meters” “So 87-88% of predicted adult height is typically the takeoff point for the growth spurt and we start to see a big increase in growth with the peak of growth being typically between 91-92% of predicted adult height.” “The best approach is to keep as many athletes as possible in your (TID) programs for as long as possible” “If we're applying these correction procedures to athletes, we're still talking about early maturing athletes that are running 7.5s for 60. They're still not world beaters at this point. They all still need support, but it's not to say we should exclude the early maturer either. We need to keep the people in the pipeline, keep giving them what they need in terms of strength and conditioning, and great coaching.” “Actually, being an early maturer for girls can be a disadvantage because of the fat mass gains that occur post-PHV versus a girl who is pre-PHV who's still relatively lean, not carrying fat. And in my experience, most of the girls will jump their highest CMJs pre-PHV and then it all flat lines” “There's certain sports where if you haven't accumulated training by a certain age, then, you know, the really skill -based sports, it's probably going to be harder to get there to an elite level” SHOWNOTES 1) James' background in both strength & conditioning and PE teaching and his journey to talent identification in elite sport in the Middle East 2) Why interpreting performance through a lens of maturation is important and how to track physical performance metrics around peak height velocity (PHV) 3) The continuum of maturation in young athletes from pre-pubertal to post-PHV 4) Different methods of predicting adult height in youth athletes and their respective strengths and weaknesses 5) Optimizing talent ID programs to enhance retention and the psychosocial aspects of these programs 6) Correcting track & field performance based on maturation to get closer to be able to compare youth athletes of the same age but different maturation levels 7) Potential differences between boys' and girls' physical performance measures around PHV 8) Strategies for working with sports coaches in the TID space to allow for maturation-based evaluation and adjustments for open skill sports 9) Managing training around PHV to help reduce injury risk and the typical pattern of growth and injury site location in youth athletes PEOPLE MENTIONED Ed Archer Alex Natera Amanda Johnson Marco Cardinale Phil Kearney Craig Pickering Shaun Abbott Stephen Cobley Tom Maher Matt Jordan Mike Young Jeremy Sheppard Dan Baker Boo Schexnayder

I can't help but enjoy the rich irony.   NIWA, the Crown owned weather research institute, has had a big spend up on its vehicle fleet. Four big, grunty Chevy Silverados to be exact - 2024 models, apparently judging by the regos, retailing to you and to me for around $ 172K.   Although I have no doubt that NIWA managed to squeeze that down a bit —I hope they did, I hope they negotiated— the utes were bought despite the fact that the government is currently trying to reduce the emissions from all the vehicles it owns.   Agencies must purchase battery EV's, or if they're not suitable, a plug-in hybrid. If neither of those are suitable, the agency's chief executive has the ability to sign off on a different vehicle. Mainly an ICE vehicle.   NIWA is a Crown-owned enterprise, so it isn't bound by these rules, but according to the protocol, it must have regard for the rules. NIWA's chief executive John Morgan signed off on the purchases being necessary given the weight of the boats the cars will be towing.   “We investigated all the options in the market,” he said. “There was no viable alternative to the Silverado's given the weight of the boats they'll be towing. We test drove a wide range of trucks, large and mid-sized Utes in a variety of real-world driving conditions to determine what was going to be the most suitable and safest for our staff. There are no Bev or PHV options available that can perform the role required.”   No, and I think that's the point.  I would have no problem with this at all if it weren't for the virtue signalling. It's not just virtue signalling, but real-life implications for real-life businesses.  Remember when we were talking about the greenhouse auditing that the banks are requiring of their customers? Several New Zealand banks have pledged to ensure their investment and lending portfolios are aligned to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Banks are ‘helping' (which is a loaded word) business customers reach for net zero with lower interest rates for hitting sustainability targets and by helping firms with transition plans. So what that means, and what businesses told us was happening, was that when they apply for a loan or when every year they must reply to their bank.   What are you doing to offset your emissions within your business? How are you reducing your impact on the environment? You have to show your commitment or risk financial penalties. You get threatened with higher interest rates on loans or no loans at all. Farmers know all about that.  If you're not performing, Fonterra won't pick up your milk. If you are not committed to reducing your greenhouse gas emissions as much as you possibly can, there are real world financial penalties.    We had the owner of a transport firm ringing when we were discussing this. He wanted a loan to buy a new truck. Whoever was on the end of the phone is committed to changing the world, obviously, but probably hasn't driven a truck before, said, well, have you looked at an electric truck? And he said yes, I have. I'm not a Neanderthal. (Of course, he didn't say that I'm exaggerating). But he said, you know. Yes, I have looked at alternatives, but there is nothing on the market at the moment that is going to be able to do the job I need.   Well, you better start looking further afield because there's going to be higher interest rates if you are committed to ICE engines in the future. You know, if you want a loan, hmmm, there may well be higher interest rates in the in the next couple of years.   So there are real world implications for people who have no alternative.  Blind ideology and desire do not create vehicles fit for purpose. Just wanting them to work doesn't make them so.   So, there's NIWA with its noble mission statement on its website: “The challenges of reducing our national greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to a changing climate are hugely important and affect all New Zealanders.”  What they mean is except us, because we need big grunty ships to tow our boats! And they do. And setting aside the emissions from a big grunty Chev, what about the cost when the public service is being squeezed so hard, the pips are squeaking?   A Chevy Silverado goes for $172K, a Ford Ranger goes for $90K and I've seen plenty of Ford Rangers pulling big boats heading north over summer. Can a Ford Ranger not tow NIWA's boats? It's just the disconnect between the real world and ideology.   If NIWA have test driven all these different utes and said these are the vehicles we need to do the job, fine. But at the same time, they said these are the vehicles we need to do the job because there are no alternatives. But then private business should be able to say that too and not be quizzed by their banks, and not have to do a greenhouse audit when the alternative doesn't exist yet.   DOC's the same. Remember that lovely conservation worker who left. They were choppering in coal to the camper's huts. You could not use the wood that had fallen over in a storm for the heaters and the cookers within the huts, you had to chopper in bloody coal.    When ideology collides with the real world, it makes for a hell of a splat.  NIWA and DOC and the like, banging on about climate change, and rightly so, but they're not walking the talk because they can't. The technology they need doesn't exist yet, and they need to realise, and the government needs to realise, and the ideologs need to realise, and the Green Party needs to realise, that it's the same for the poor grunts who are trying to run their businesses, and pay their taxes that pay for these bloody utes.   Sure, encourage people to transition into environmentally friendly alternatives when there are alternatives. But don't you dare punish people when they simply do not have a choice.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

COLORADO EV INCENTIVES "Excel Energy's new roster of electric vehicle rebates are winning praise from environmental groups, with Colorado's dominant utility expanding incentives to include used vehicles, speeding up the all-important charging network and working with landlords to install apartment chargers." "Xcel will credit $50 a year on your bill if you agree to do most of your charging during off-peak times they have set aside. They say this allows them to plan demands on the power grid, and also allows you to use more renewable energy in the evening, instead of peak power that may be drawing on coal-fired power plants. If you need to charge at home outside your chosen time, you can override the system." “Used was a big win for us,” said Xcel electric vehicle program director Alisa Sobczak, who was showcasing Xcel's new incentives at a vehicle and charging station showcase set up for last weekend's Denver Auto Show.  “For instance, in the Denver Metro area, a family of four with household income under $85,000 qualifies,” for the rebates, Sobczak said. “We tried to make as many people eligible as possible, because we want everybody to have the opportunity to drive electric. So we've got $5,500 off a new EV purchase or lease, and $3,000 off of used." "The Xcel-offered rebates for new or used EV purchases and leases are income-qualified on a sliding scale, to target the greatest amount of help to those with the least resources for a big purchase. The price tag for the car can't go over $50,000, eliminating many models of Tesla or the high-end pickup trucks arriving this year." https://coloradosun.com/2021/09/21/new-xcel-electric-vehicle-charging-rebates CONSUMER REPORTS HATE TESLA'S YOKE "Testers at Consumer Reports recently got their hands on the Tesla Model S steering yoke, and first impressions aren't good. The publication, which purchases all of its test vehicles, recently received a new Model S equipped with the yoke which, in addition to its unusual shape, replaces conventional controls for the turn signals, windshield wipers, and horn with touch-sensitive buttons." writes Green Car Reports: "Over the course of a week, ten Consumer Reports testers reported numerous issues with the yolk. It slipped out of drivers' hands, doesn't allow for hand-over-hand shuffling when maneuvering in tight spaces, and drivers had trouble figuring out which button to press to activate the turn signals." Jake Fisher, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center: "Swerving to avoid road debris or a stopped vehicle may be more difficult. I am concerned if I would be able to control the vehicle well in an emergency situation." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1133605_tesla-model-s-steering-yoke-is-a-pain-and-possible-safety-concern-says-consumer-reports 2022 BMW I3: ELECTRIC 3 SERIES SPIED "The 2022 BMW i3 has been caught by an amateur photographer in China. Images have been posted to website Sohu showing the first fully-electric 3 Series, with the new BMW expected to slot in below the i4 – but believed to instead share a similar powertrain to the iX3 SUV." says Whichcar.com.au: "Rumours suggest the new model will offer an entry-level variant initially – possibly called the i3 eDrive30 – with a single electric motor sending 210kW and 400Nm to the rear wheels. it's more likely the i3 shares the larger 84kWh battery pack with its i4 sibling, meaning the sedan should easily reach 600km of driving range on a single charge" https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/2022-bmw-i3-electric-3-series-spied ELECTRAMECCANICA TO BEGIN CUSTOMER DELIVERIES "ElectraMeccanica Vehicles will begin customer deliveries of its single-occupant, three-wheeled, electric vehicle, the SOLO.  The company will officially begin delivering keys to customers at a special launch event scheduled for 4 October in Los Angeles with a select group of early reservation holders along with the company's first fleet owners." reports Green Car Congress: "The SOLO is a purpose-built, three-wheeled, all-electric solution for the urban environment. Engineered for a single occupant.  The SOLO features front and rear crumple zones, side impact protection, roll bar, torque-limiting control, as well as power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and a Bluetooth entertainment system. It blends a modern look with safety features at an accessible price point of $18,500." https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/09/electrameccanica-to-begin-customer-deliveries-of-three-wheeled-solo-ev.html DRIIVZ AND HUBJECT FOCUS ON PLUG & CHARGE Driivz, the leading end-to-end EV charging and smart energy management software platform, today announced a cooperation with Hubject, the world's largest eRoaming provider, to deliver a seamless Plug & Charge EV experience based on ISO 15118. This is one step closer to the all-electric SUV hitting the roads in Australia. With SUVs representing the largest vehicle category for new car sales, the Model Y is expected to easily outsell the sedan equivalent (Model 3) that has proven to be Australia's favourite EV." says TechAU: "By way of battery capacity, the data is provided in Ah for each models. To get to the size of the pack we need to multiply this by the voltage." In a Thursday filing, customers' attorneys wrote, “Tesla informed counsel for Plaintiffs that Tesla had recently launched a program for customers who signed Solar Roof contracts before the April 2021 price changes to return those customers to their original pricing (if they were subject to a price increase in April 2021).”" writes CNBC.com: "Filings in three separate lawsuits alleged that Tesla solar customers had already signed contracts with Elon Musk's electric vehicle and renewable energy venture, and even prepared to have solar photovoltaics installed at their homes, when they were surprised by sudden price hikes that required additional payments to move ahead with their installations. The price hikes were not trivial. For example, plaintiff Matthew Amans' solar roof price shot up from around $72,000 per his original contract to around $146,000," https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/17/tesla-to-reverse-solar-price-hike-for-some-customers-legal-filing.html LARGE TAXI COMPANY GOES ELECTRIC "Today, we're announcing that our passenger car fleet will become fully electric by 2023, two years ahead of any other large PHV operator in London, and an investment of £160 million We begin that journey with a partnership with Volkswagen and the roll out of their ID.4s" say Addison Lee on a blog post: "– This will eventually mean 20 000 zero emissions journeys each day in London. In fact, our journey towards becoming fully electric has already started – following our purchase of leading black taxi platform ComCab earlier this year, we already have over 650 zero-emission taxis on our fleet. As well as helping the capital's environment, we know our new electric fleet and fund will be popular with drivers and business customers. In a recent survey 86% of drivers said they would be keen to shift to an electric vehicle this year and 82% of drivers considered improving the environment as the most significant benefit of shifting to EV.

Show #651   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 24th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   GM ELECTRIC TRUCK DUE FALL 2021 "In an address to the Barclays 2019 Global Automotive Conference Thursday, GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed that the company’s battery-electric truck will arrive in fall 2021. " says Green Car Reports: "The announcement confirms a timeline that first emerged in a Reuters report last month, citing multiple sources familiar with the plans. Barra also noted that it will be a very capable truck, and that the company will share a lot more about the truck “in the not too distant future.” Some of the same “EV building blocks” will be used, explained Barra, from its electric vehicles in China up to its full-size U.S.-market electric trucks an advantage to its strategy in focusing on a modularized “skateboard” global architecture for EVs and their batteries."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1126167_gm-electric-truck-due-fall-2021-aiming-for-traditional-and-lifestyle-buyers   BYD INTRODUCES NEW E3 ELECTRIC SEDAN IN CHINA "The e3 sedan is another new all-electric entry-level model introduced in China by BYD this year. In fact, it's highly related to the e2 hatchback (available from September)." says InsideEVs: "So far this year, BYD expanded its lineup by six new plug-ins: Tang BEV, BYD Song MAX PHEV, e1, S2 (an entry-level version of Yuan), e2 and e3.The e3 comes with two battery options (35.2 kWh and 47.3 kWh) and a single electric motor version (70 kW), which is all the same as in the case of e2. NEDC range of up to 405 km (252 miles) in top version totally fits within stricter requirements for incentives (although those were halved in June)."   https://insideevs.com/news/383587/byd-introduced-e3-model-china/   DAF UNVEILS 3-AXLE ELECTRIC GARBAGE DISPOSAL TRUCK "The Dutch manufacturer DAF now also offers its CF Electric electric truck as a three-axle truck with a gross vehicle weight of 28 tonnes. The first examples will be tested this year as refuse trucks by the Dutch waste disposal companies HVC and ROVA." acccording to electrive: "The drive has an output of 210 kW and a maximum torque of 2,000 Nm. The gross energy content of the battery is given as 170 kWh. DAF has not given an exact range, but it should be sufficient for the usual distances of a refuse collection vehicle. Since garbage trucks usually return to the depot every couple of hours, the Dutch company has attached more importance to the vehicle’s fast-charging capability: It should be possible to charge the electric truck to 80 per cent in 30 minutes – which, with an assumed net capacity of 150 kWh, still corresponds to an (average) charging capacity of 240 kW."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/11/22/daf-unveils-3-axle-electric-garbage-disposal-truck/   NEW ANALYSIS SUGGESTS UBER ADDING SIGNIFICANTLY TO POLLUTION AND TRAFFIC IN EUROPEAN CITIES "Uber is adding more polluting car trips to already-clogged European cities such as London and Paris, new analysis by European NGOs suggests—contributing to air pollution and climate change and exploding the company’s sustainability claims." as reported by Green Car Congress: "Data compiled by Euromonitor for European research and campaign group Transport & Environment (T&E) shows a surge in the number of Uber drivers (officially registered as private hire vehicles - PHV) in the past few years. In France, which liberalized the taxi market in 2015, the number of reported PHV drivers doubled in three years (from more than 15,000 in 2016 to 30,000 in 2019). The number of Uber drivers in London almost doubled in three years (from 25,000 in 2016 to 45,000 in 2018), accounting for roughly half the total PHV licence number. The analysis estimates that in London and Paris alone, the emissions of Uber taxi services could be as high as 515 kilotonnes of CO2—more than one half a megatonne. This is equivalent to adding the CO2 emissions of an extra 250,000 privately owned cars to the road."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/11/20191123-uber.html   PORSCHE TAYCAN TO USE 100 KW ABB CHADEMO CHARGERS IN JAPAN "Porsche Japan is hosting a dedicated launch event (from November 20 to December 7) for the Taycan in Shibuya, Tokyo, which will enter the Japanese market in 2020." reports InsideEVs today: "Part of the event is a demonstration of ABB's high-power fast chargers for the Taycan, which turns out to be a CHAdeMO unit with power output "exceeding 100kW". ABB was selected to provide CHAdeMO chargers for Porsche in the Japanese market this Spring, as there is no CCS Combo in Japan. The plan for the future is to develop CHAdeMO chargers with power output above 150 kW, which is still significantly less than in Europe and North America, using CCS - already demonstrated at up to 270 kW (with potential to go up to 350 kW). As there are no technological barriers to go right from the start to 150+ kW, we guess that ABB/Porsche is simply waiting for the commercialization of the higher power CHAdeMO connector."   https://insideevs.com/news/384041/porsche-taycan-chademo-chargers-japan/     QUESTION OF THE WEEK   Tom Raftery That’s easy, I’d get Jeremy Clarkson to advertise it by saying initially “If this car is any good I’ll eat my hat”. The cut to Jeremy driving the car on a track whooping and screaming as he puts it through its paces (getting a 0-100kmh in X secs, etc.). Finally cut to Jeremy sitting down to a plate with a hat and some ketchup on it! Fade to black.   RAJEEV If I had to market EVs, I think I would focus on the sheer joy of driving one, with the instant torque and great acceleration and perfect balance and low center of gravity. Perhaps VW could bring back some of their “Farfegnugen” commercials some of us older listeners remember. I would also focus on the markedly reduced cost of ownership in terms of maintenance and fuel costs.   JOHN FRUHWIRTH I would simply push the experiences/ advantages of owning EVs. Things like: Home Charging Instant torque Advanced tech Quiet ride Energy efficiency (e.g. 80%) Simplicity of drive train (only about 20 moving parts). I would leave out any references to the superiority of EVs over ICE vehicles.   KARL CRAMER I'd take advantage of product placements and have an all EV entry in the Fast & Furious movie franchise.   CHARLIE FOX One easy thought is to take those stupid Toyota commercials with the cobwebs on the electric chargers and invert it. Make the gas station the zombie apocalypse and the EV driver blowing by... and of course the driver needs to be Simon Pegg.   “Dan from Canada“. To market EVs, I would suggest using humour and/or irreverent celebrity interviews to break through the monotony of other car advertising. This idea is inspired by the recent free publicity: New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, drives a Hyundai Ioniq EV. She picks up US political comedian Stephen Colbert from the airport - hilarity ensues, though she outclasses him by a mile :-)   No, I didn’t make that up - see the YouTube video: https://youtu.be/DUPo62ouU84   brian rhodefer If a manufacturer were serious about transitioning to electrically-driven vehicles, they might consider incentivizing their dealerships to provide EVs as "loaner" cars for their repair departments, and possibly also encouraging driver education programs to use them as student vehicles.   RENE SCHNEIDER This would be my take of the question of the week, combined with Teslas unveiling yesterday. Why you buy a truck? Because you want to have the feeling to be safer than in a regular car. And which car would more express this feeling than an outside steel - bulletproof car for 39k US$?     QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   "The controversial, and botched, Cybertruck launch is now the most-Googled search term in the companies history. But did it help or hinder the wider movement to EVs?”   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 251 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #608   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 12th October 2019. ELECTRIFY CANADA PLANNING 20 NEW 350-KW CHARGING STATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY "Volkswagen built Electrify America, its U.S. multi-brand-compatible network of EV charging stations, as part of a settlement with authorities there over its Dieselgate scandal. But now the automaker has voluntarily expanded that effort with a Canadian arm to give electric vehicle owners that same level of charging access." writes driving.ca: "Electrify Canada announced early October that it plans to open 20 350-kW-capable charging stations at Canadian Tire locations in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. Pricing is based on 75-kW-, 125-kW- and 350-kW-per-minute power levels. There is a $1 session fee per charge-up, but an Electrify Canada Pass+ is only $4 per month, which waives the session fee and knocks the cost down by roughly 20 cents per minute."   https://driving.ca/volkswagen/auto-news/news/electrify-canada-planning-20-new-350-kw-charging-stations-across-the-country   ALL-ELECTRIC RENAULT ZOE RS TO REPLACE CLIO RS? "With the standard Clio already upon us, you might be wondering when we’ll first see the next Renault Clio RS. As our sister title Auto Express discovered, it seems we won’t see one at all, but the French marque does have something else sporty up its sleeve" reports Evo Magazine: "Renault’s executive vice-president of product planning, Ali Kasai, told Auto Express that a new Clio RS is simply not viable, but that a performance-orientated, all-electric Zoe is the most likely model to sit in its place. Kasai said: ‘We need to be in line with the current trends; we have to invent the future sporty cars.’ The standard Zoe is powered by a 52kWh battery and a front-mounted 132bhp motor, and is good for a claimed range of 245 miles. A performance variant would naturally claim less range given the same battery size, especially if Renault punted for a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up, something we’re yet to see in a compact EV."   ARE EV SALES BEING HELD UP? From dinside.no: "Last week, we wrote that Kia in Spain has been revealed to refuse dealers to sell electric cars for the rest of 2019, with a strong call to sell gasoline and diesel-powered SUVs before replacing the calendar on January 1. Like the Norwegian importer , Kia also denied in Sweden that this was the case in our neighboring country. Now, however, the Swedish electric car website Recharge has revealed that Kia Sweden was not completely truthful. They also sent a similar letter to their dealers, should we believe the site. In the letter, Kia writes, among other things, that they "hope to have a fantastic start to the electrified year 2020", writes Recharge."   Bertel O. Steen is a freelance importer: "We have no comment on the case in Sweden and Spain. But we do not have similar orders here in Norway, and we deliver the cars we get, explains Mette S. Sauge." In Norway, according to Kia Bil Norge, about 5700 are still on the reservation lists for the two electric cars for Kia. The lists distribute the numbers as follows:   Kia e-Niro: about 4,400 people Kia e-Soul: about 1,300 people   https://www.dinside.no/motor/avslort-i-sverige-ogsa/71686226   LEXUS EV CONCEPT TEASED AHEAD OF TOKYO MOTOR SHOW DEBUT "Toyota’s luxury division says the new zero-emissions showcar is a window into the company’s electric and autonomous future, so not only will the vehicle lack a combustion engine, but it also might not have a steering wheel." reports Motor1: "Originally announced back in July, the unnamed electric concept will allegedly feature a newly developed infotainment system with dual screens and is going to use a revamped version of the spindle grille. Chances are the EV rides on the new e-TNGA platform that Lexus’ parent company Toyota is developing, with the ultimate goal to have 10 electric cars from both brands on sale by the middle of the next decade."   https://www.motor1.com/news/375558/lexus-ev-concept-teaser/   FREE PARKING FOR EV OWNERS IN CINCINNATI "Cincinnati, Ohio, has come up with a creative incentive for those who own electric vehicles: Free Parking. For those who have played Monopoly — well, the way I always played it — landing on the free parking square meant you got to cash in. Electric vehicle (EV) owners in Cincinnati will be able to cash in on savings thanks to the city’s Electric Car Incentive Program. Note that hybrid owners will not benefit from this incentive since the program is geared toward fully electric vehicles." writes Johnna for Clean Technica: "The free parking spots include all city parking meters and one city-owned garage located downtown. The parking in the garage is on a first-come, first-served basis and does not include overnight privileges. This also includes free parking at every and any parking meter within the Cincinnati city limits. Parking at these meters means drivers must still follow parking rules, though, and if the meter says you have an hour, then the driver needs to leave when that time is up."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/09/free-parking-for-ev-owners-in-cincinnati/   PAY-PER-MILE ‘ROAD TAX’ BACK ON THE AGENDA "The government’s Transport Committee has confirmed it wishes to start a debate around road pricing – more specifically the idea of a pay-as-you-go style system, that could fill a potential £40 billion black hole in its Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) income." says Leasing.com: "As the rise of the electric car accelerates over the coming years, the government will lose more and more money; EVs with list prices of less than £40,000 don’t pay any road tax at all, which will result in a sharp drop in tax income for the government. One way around this is to adjust the VED system with road pricing. Early next year, the Transport Committee will investigate whether national road pricing should be a part of that future, but wants the public – drivers and non-drivers alike – to begin the discussion now."   https://leasing.com/car-leasing-news/pay-per-mile-road-pricing-review-2020/   TOYOTA RAV4 PLUG-IN REVEALED AHEAD OF LA AUTO SHOW "Toyota teased on Thursday what will become the most powerful RAV4 yet – the 2021 RAV4 plug-in. Bringing with it a new color, Supersonic Red, the teaser image of the RAV4 plug-in highlights the new PHV’s surprising performance capabilities." according to Electric Cars Report: "Toyota will debut the Toyota RAV4-plugin during the Los Angeles Auto Show media days, on November 20, 2019 at the Toyota booth in South Hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center."   https://electriccarsreport.com/2019/10/toyota-rav4-plug-in-revealed-ahead-of-la-auto-show/   2020 TOYOTA HYBRIDS AND EVS GET 10-YEAR, 150,000-MILE BATTERY WARRANTY "Toyota announced today that it will extend the battery warranty for its hybrid and electric vehicles to 10 years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first), an increase from the current eight years or 100,000 miles. The change will affect 2020 hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fuel-cell vehicles sold by Toyota and can transfer from the original owner to subsequent owners." says Car And Driver: "There are eight eligible cars in the lineup: the Camry, Corolla, Prius, RAV4, Avalon, and Highlander hybrids, plus the Prius Prime plug-in and the Mirai fuel-cell vehicle. Toyota says the longer warranty term is designed to help overcome the hesitation that some buyers feel toward purchasing a hybrid or electric vehicle.Nissan has said that they expect Leaf batteries to last 10 to 12 years longer than customers will want to own the cars. Tesla is reportedly developing a battery technology that can last for a million miles."   https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a29428255/2020-toyota-hybrid-electric-car-batteries-warranty/   PLANS TO REDEVELOP FORMER A1 SERVICE STATION "Plans to redevelop a former service station on the A1 in Peterborough with electric car charging points and a café have been submitted to the city council." says the local newspaper Peterborough Today: "Solar Charging Ltd wants to revamp the former Abbotts Wood Service Station which lies near the southbound carriageway in Thornhaugh, near Wittering. Under its plans 20 electric car charging points would be installed, as well as a “service building” which would include a café. The electricity would come from a nearby solar farm - a process the company said would be “the first of its kind” within the region and would “seek to reflect the aspirations of Peterborough City Council’s Environment Capital agenda”."   https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/plans-to-redevelop-former-a1-service-station-with-electric-car-charging-points-submitted-to-peterborough-council-1-9102744   LUNAZ DESIGN IS ELECTRIFYING CLASSIC CARS FOR A ZERO-CARBON FUTURE "Lunaz Design is converting high-end classic motor vehicles to electric propulsion utilising a team of engineers gathered from F1, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, VW and McLaren and zero emissions and recycling at the heart of its product philosophy." says Renewable Energy Magazine: "The aim is to make the most beautiful and celebrated cars in history ready for an electrified, zero-carbon future.   A 1961 eight-seat Rolls-Royce Phantom V, 1953 Jaguar XK120 and 1956 Rolls-Royce Cloud are currently being prepared for market introduction. The Jaguar XK120 is fitted with an 80-kWH electric battery pack whilst the Rolls-Royce Phantom V is specified with a 120-kWH power unit. Each classic by Lunaz represents an entirely custom restoration. Its cars are analysed to the millimetre to ensure Lunaz’s engineers develop the most appropriate powertrain solution for the character of the car and the intended driving dynamics. All classics by Lunaz are engineered with fast charging capability, regenerative braking systems and the sensitive integration of modern conveniences like traction control and cruise control."   https://www.renewableenergymagazine.com/electric_hybrid_vehicles/lunaz-design-is-electrifying-classic-cars-for-20191010     Moneyball @DKurac "Skywell delivers 1st batch of Shenzhen's largest #EV dump truck order so far as it delivers 300 of 1 K trucks to 2 co's in the city. Last year, Shenzhen started subsidizing #EV dump truck purchases with ¥800 K. The city wants to have all new dump trucks as EVs by 2021."   TESLA MODEL 3 TAKES OVER THE UK WITH A RECORD QUARTER "Tesla had another record month and quarter of deliveries in the UK, thanks to Model 3, which is quickly becoming a best-selling car in the market. The ramp-up has been slow over the first few months, but Tesla delivered more than 2,000 Model 3 vehicles in August, and it was enough for the Model 3 to become the third best-selling car in the UK in August (via the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)." writes Fred for Electrek: "Now the registration data is out for September, and Tesla delivered even more vehicles: 3,459 units, including 2,864 Model 3 vehicles.
