In this engaging episode of 10x Your Team with Cam & Otis, Holden Lindblom shares his unique journey from military service as a Forward Observer to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Holden discusses the valuable lessons learned in the military, such as leadership, adaptability, and the ability to manage chaos, and how these skills have translated into his civilian career. The conversation delves into the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life, the importance of maintaining structure, and the role of innovation in business. Whether you're a veteran navigating your next steps or a leader seeking to enhance your team's performance, this episode offers insightful perspectives and practical advice.More About Holden:Holden's journey began with four years of dedicated service in the US Army as a Forward Observer, where he served alongside units such as the 173rd Airborne and 101st Air Assault. Following his honorable separation in 2015, Holden enrolled at Stanford University. During his tenure at Stanford, Holden's entrepreneurial spirit flourished. He co-founded a startup within the prestigious ZX Venture's incubator and later founded Picomart. Picomart became a venture capital-backed startup that revolutionized the accessibility of fresh, locally sourced produce through a cutting-edge smart-fridge kiosk, catering to apartment tenants around the clock. As an Entrepreneur in Residence at Context Ventures, a $30M early-stage venture fund, Holden explored and evaluated startup opportunities, supported portfolio companies, and contributed to the investment committee. This role led to the successful launch of VetraFi, a fintech platform addressing the unique financial needs of military service members and their families.#10xYourTeam #HoldenLindblom #10xYourTeam #MilitaryToEntrepreneur #Leadership #Adaptability #InnovationInBusiness #VeteranSuccess #Entrepreneurship #TransitioningVeterans #StructureAndInnovation #TeamPerformance #HoldenLindblom #Picomart #VetraFi #StanfordEntrepreneurChapters:Introduction and Holden's BackgroundChoosing a Military CareerTime: 00:00 - 05:00Description: Opening remarks and introduction of Holden Lindblom, discussing his military background and transition to entrepreneurship.Lessons from the MilitaryTime: 05:01 - 15:00Description: Holden shares his decision to join the military and the experiences that shaped his career as a Forward Observer.Transitioning to Civilian LifeTime: 15:01 - 25:00Description: Discussion on the leadership and adaptability skills gained in the military and their application in civilian life.Applying Structure to ChaosTime: 25:01 - 35:00Description: Insights into the challenges and opportunities of transitioning from military to civilian roles.Innovation and EntrepreneurshipTime: 35:01 - 45:00Description: Exploring how military discipline and structure can be leveraged in business environments.Closing Thoughts and Key TakeawaysTime: 45:01 - 55:00Description: Holden discusses the role of innovation in his entrepreneurial journey and the importance of adaptability.Time: 55:01 - EndDescription: Final reflections on the discussion and key takeaways for listeners to apply in their own leadership and business strategies.Holden LindblomLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/holdenlindblom/Website: https://www.vetrafi.com/
Danny O'Neel was born and raised in Northern California. Signing up for the Army on 9/11 as a Forward Observer at 19, the US Army sent Though the first tour was mostly uneventful, the second trip to Sadr City was a deadly year. Nine of Danny's brothers lost their lives that year. Sadly, 15 members of his unit have taken their own lives in the aftermath, including his company commander. Danny & his wife, Faun started Warfighter Overwatch to help those in crisis. Danny now works as a peer mentor, helping his fellow Veterans come home from the battlefield, and as a motivational speaker. His mission to continue serving is not just inspirational, it'll motivate you to get in the fight!
Gary joined the Royal Regiment of Artillery (RA) in the British Army twice, once in 1999 and again in 2004. He served for 12 years in total, reaching the rank of Bombardier (Bdr). In this episode Gary talks about his journey in joining the British Army, and why he left and then rejoined a few years later. He shares his time completing many courses, which prepared him for operational tours of Iraq and 2 deployments to Afghanistan. These tours saw him be part of a Close Protection Team, a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), and be a Forward Observer.During Gary's 2nd operational tour to Afghanistan, he was part of a mission, which sadly lost a life of a team member. During this event, Gary consciously risked his life, on three separate occasions, and it was a miracle he himself was not killed. For his actions on this day, he was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC), second only to the Victoria Cross (VC). After this tour, he suffered a shoulder and leg injury, which meant his career was cut short. However, he set new goals with recurve archery (a sport he's excelled in from a young age), and took on the challenge of being part of the inaugural Invictus Games in London 2014, where he won Team Gold and Individual Silver.Watch Episode on YouTubePart 1 & Part 2TikTok:tiktok.com/@militaryveteranspodcastInstagram:instagram.com/militaryveteranspodcastX:twitter.com/MilVetPodcastLinkedIn:linkedin.com/company/military-veterans-podcastMerchandise:milvetpodcast.com/merchSend us a textMessage at the beginning of the recording is from your host Gav, giving you information on how you can support the show through Patreon.Supporting monthly would help the show record future episodes and help with the upkeep of the show. £5 a month will give you access to bonus recordings, where Gav and the guest chat about things that don't make it into the main recording. I can't wait to see what we cook up. https://www.youtube.com/@LifeDoneFree Weekly Shopping Report from Joe First stop was Dollar Tree. Stock in the frozen food coolers has notably increased; they're probably at least half full, with a decent variety. The drink aisle and coolers also were a lot more full, with good variety. There were more vitamins in the health area too. Home Depot was next. Sonia stayed in the car, so I just ran in and out. A 2x4x8 remains at $3.35. I also picked up a long Diablo reciprocating saw blade for use on some saplings in the yard. Aldi was third. I thought the shelves looked more stuffed than usual; there was plenty of product. We found everything we wanted. Eggs have come down, perhaps to $2.7x? We also found heavy cream, and there were multiple boxes of it. We got a case of their canned cat food, leaving at least two more. Weigel's was last. My usual station is running on a backup pump, and the flow rate is so low that I aborted a fillup on Thursday evening after just five gallons. The other station is running just fine. The price is the same, with a gallon of untainted regular still $3.999. Frugality Tip Home repairs can be overwhelming. Some times you need to "hire a guy". You have to be ok with knowing your limits. I know I can't (yet) do framing and stucco, but I can paint. I saved us $300 by buying a gallon of stucco waterproofing and a gallon of paint. It will take me longer than if I paid a guy, but any time I can shave a few bucks off a project I will. P.S. I watched the stuccoing process, and feel pretty confident that I can do a small project or repair next time. Make it a great week ~Margo Operation Independence Ram for sale versus processing - an update Processing workshop launches in one week Main topic of the Show: Crisis Communications What is crisis communications Why did I think of it? (Dentist) What should you do if you find yourself in a tense situation? (Photoshopped head on a campaign photo, Al Gore) Acknowledge that providing facts as soon as possible is key and communicate that you are gathering facts so that you can explain the situation Do NOT make up answers to anything. Not ever. Not even if you think you know Clarify who is qualified to speak on this matter (Is it you, someone in your organization or family, etc). Ensure everyone KNOWS who to send inquiries to Release the facts to the media, on your communications platforms etc. (Media statement vs press release) Never repeat the accusation - we do not need out of context audio clips of you saying you did something that you did not say Handle interview requests as you usually should, by first researching the media outlet before agreeing to an interview Schedule down time Rely on the facts in every communication and get good at being called a liar, a poopy head, etc Set a communications schedule moving through the crisis and STICK to it Why should this matter to a homesteader? (Pig picture) What about the people who lie all the time? They don't rely on facts Pre-writing crisis content Security Make it a great week! GUYS! Patriot Radio | Mike Shelby, CEO The Forward Observer ireadepoch.com - use promo code PATRIOTRADIO for HUGE savings with the Epoch Times, some of the BEST true news. From Mike Shelby, I'm a former soldier, Intelligence NCO, and contractor. I left the Intelligence Community in 2012 over concerns of where the country was headed. I founded Forward Observer in 2016 as a way to track radical, revolutionary, and extremist groups involved in “Low Intensity Conflict” in the United States. Low Intensity Conflict is the model for the current unrest that will result in greater disruption and violence, likely lasting well into the decade. It exists below conventional war, but above routine, peaceful competition. It's the “gray area” between war and peace. We've undoubtedly entered a new period of conflict and instability. Luckily, intelligence reduces uncertainty about the future. Our readers understand the value of intelligence, and they rely on our analysis to keep them informed about the future. I hope you will too. – Mike Shelby Follow Matt on Social Media: Gab: https://gab.com/MattShea Gettr: https://gettr.com/user/mattshea Rumble: https://rumble.com/user/MattShea Clouthub: https://app.clouthub.com/#/users/u/MattShea/posts Broadcast across ACN (American Christian Network) Tuesday & Thursday 4-5 p.m. LIVE Tuesday & Thursday 9-10 p.m. (Replay) Saturday 6-7 p.m. (Replay) 106.5 FM Spokane/Coeur d'Alene (KSPO) 106.1 FM Moses Lake/Soap Lake/ Ephrata (KTBI) 101.3 FM Tri-Cities/Walla/Walla/NE Oregon (KGDN) 97.7 FM Spokane/Coeur d'Alen (KFIO) 96.1 FM Yakima/Lower Valley (KYAK) 93.9 FM Central Washington (KTAC) 1050 AM Spokane/Coeur d'Alene/Pullman/North Idaho/Palouse (KFIO) 810 AM Wenatchee/Moses Lake (KTBI) 930 AM Yakima/Ellensburg (KYAK) LBS (Liberty Broadcasting System) Saturday 3-5 p.m. (Replay) Sunday 12-1 p.m. (Replay) 630 AM Spokane/Couer d'Alene (KTW) 96.5 FM Spokane/Coeur d'Alene (KTW) Podcast: https://mattshea.podbean.com Streaming live on the internet: https://www.acn.cc/ACN%20Listening%20Page.htm
Success necessitates a lot of personality traits. To savor the sweet taste of success, you must have talent, hard work, devotion, commitment, and focus. But if one essential trait takes precedence over the others, I'd say the ability to persevere. The quality of perseverance that all the best and most successful people throughout history have possessed stands out above all others. The road to success is long and twisting and paved with difficulties. Anyone with a different point of view is stupid, naive, and doomed to failure. There are many struggles in life that will make you think of giving up sometimes, but Joe shares how perseverance leads you to success and a better person. In the Brotherhood of Fatherhood episode, Scott Rammage is joined by Joe Wankelman, who served 17 years in the army as a Forward Observer and Apache Helicopter Pilot in Command/Maintenance Test Pilot. They talk about Joe's military experiences, marriage life, and how he became a better version of himself after his challenges.Joe did four tours in Iraq (04-05, 08-09, 2011) and Afghanistan (2014). He also had some fantastic moments in his life and some unbelievably challenging ones. But, from these challenges, he has gained a gift greater than I could have imagined. It's the ability to preserve, and this became his watchword. He is also open to talking about his triumphs of flying a 40 million helicopter, being the first company-grade pilot to fly the E Model Apache helicopter in combat. The Cognitive Crucible is a forum that presents different perspectives and emerging thought leadership related to the information environment. The opinions expressed by guests are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of or endorsement by the Information Professionals Association. During this episode, LtCol Brian Schweers discusses the US Marine Corps' All Domain Effects Team (ADET) concept, which is considered to still be in the prototype phase. After describing the historical mission of the Marine Corps' Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), Brian unpacks the ADET rationale and composition. ADETs are task-organized forces that integrate information capabilities with lethal fires to achieve effects in the forward operating environment across the competition continuum in support of joint, allied, and coalition forces. These teams are intended to provide a scalable, mobile, and lethal force capable of operating across air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains simultaneously. The first ADET employed in support of joint operations was in September of 2021, during Joint Warrior in Durness, Scotland. 2d ANGLICO and II MIG continue to refine the ADET concept in support of the Commandant's Stand-in-Force Concept. Brian's research opportunity or question to the IPA Community: How do we know that we're achieving effects? How do we measure effects in the cognitive realm and tie it to decision making? This week, SOFREP Radio Host Steve Balestrieri sits down with Sam Culper, CEO of Forward Observer. Forward Observer is an Intelligence services company specializing in threat intelligence, trend analysis, conflict monitoring, and applied intelligence training. Culper started Forward Observer in 2012 when he transitioned out of the military intelligence community. He began looking at unrest in the United States and started to see indicators of low-intensity conflict — from both the left and the right — and began to track those indicators much like a military intelligence cell would. Culper and his team at Forward Observer use evidenced-based reasoning and structured analytic techniques to think clearly about the future of American conflict. They work to challenge status quo thinking about instability, collapse, systems disruption, and conflict through weekly analysis and intelligence reporting. They have a proven track record of offering high level, accurate insights and perspectives. Listen in this week to increase your situational understanding, make better decisions, and reduce your uncertainty about the future. Don't forget to check out Forward Observer, here. Mark Woodland – Founder & CEO of @MyXplor In this episode Mark shares his journey from the army through to selling his childcare business and eventually starting MyXplor. Before Mark joined the army he was far from the average child, passing through 13 schools in total. Starting out as a Forward Observer and working his way up to a psychological examiner in the army, Mark has had some incredible experiences. While Mark was away working in the army his mum decided to leave her long term career as a teacher and start her own childcare centre. Her passion for teaching was so strong however teaching in a school and running a child care business weren’t quite as aligned as she had hoped. After some calls with Mark, she convinced him to leave the army and to assist her in running her child care centre. Upon his return, Mark soon realised that the childcare industry was highly regulated with strict processes and heavy administrative burden which he hadn’t quite foreshadowed. There was so much admin involved that it almost became a full time job just signing parents in and out of the centre. He thought there had to be a better way. It was here that MyXplor was born. Mark set out to build a technology solution for his own centres and upon opening up a 200 spot centre with his technology, he saw the true power and potential for MyXplor. One of the first problems to solve in childcare centres was the way parents signed children in. The technology has only grown and evolved from here. After the success in his own centre and the eventual sale of that centre, Mark talks about the revolution MyXplor has led in the implementation of technology in child care centres. Mark has a growing team in Melbourne (over 70) and a team of 5 in the UK with a strong culture. Mark has led MyXplor in two major capital raises both led by AirTree Ventures. Mark credits AirTree for helping his growth over the years. An inspiring entrepreneur, a dear friend and client of our firm, we loved chatting with Mark and know you too will love his story.
In Episode 35, we have intel expert Sam Culper of Forward Observer who talks about intelligence for preppers. It’s not James Bond stuff; it’s much more practical than that. His book is SHTF Intelligence and is a must-read. In the After Show for Patreon supporters, he talks about the coming civil war (or, actually, low-intensity conflict).

In this first episode of 2019 I talk with Garrett Cooper, CEO and lead guide of Feral Human Expeditions. Prior to becoming an expeditionary leader, Garrett has had several other incredible adventures. One of which was serving in the US Army as a Forward Observer. This led him to deploy to Iraq for 15 months while assigned to the 1-87 scout/sniper platoon with the 10th Mountain Division. Following his deployment, Garrett set out on another incredible adventure. While back at his home state of Oregon, he hopped on his motorcycle and made his way south. He then spent seven months riding through Central and South America, eventually making it to Tierra del Fuego. Now he travels to jungles around the world to lead expeditions and teach wilderness medicine. With one of his expeditions being when he and a partner paddled 600 miles through Cambodia and Vietnam to teach CPR in villages along the way. He also has done several expeditions in the Amazon and got to meet with people of the Matis tribe. In this episode Garret tells us more about his adventures! Including the highlights and challenges that he faced while riding his motorcycle through Latin America. As well as some of the interesting rituals that he took part in while with the Matis tribe. One of which involved him being poisoned! We also discuss some of the life lessons that he's learned from his adventures as well. This was definitely a fun conversation and a fantastic episode to kick off 2019 with, and I hope you all like it! The Principles of War - Lessons from Military History on Strategy, Tactics and Leadership.
Artillery doctrine was updated after some of the lessons from the Boer War. What was the role of the artillery at the beginning of the war? How was artillery integrated into the infantry plan? What was the preferred method of employment, indirect or direct, and why? How was artillery organised? What was the role of the CRA (Commander Royal Artillery) and what resources did he have? What fire support was available at ANZAC and how was it controlled? How were adjustments made? In 1915, radio was already in use - particularly with providing co-ordination with the Naval Gun Fire Support. At 06:00 how many Turkish troops opposed the landing? How long did the troops on the beach wait for Turkish reinforcements to arrive? (!) The first battery to land was the 26th (Jacob's) Battery. at 10:30 on the 25th. How did it perform? The Field Artillery didn't get into action on the 25th because Bridges feared that they would be captured. How was the process for calling for fire refined to speed up the response from the guns and how did the role of artillery change as the campaign progressed? Some of the issues faced at ANZAC included the guns themselves not being able to fire at high trajectory, the lack of field positions, with many on lower ground and the difficulty in observing fire with the observers being on the lower ground, and communications between the Forward Observer and gun line. The range was often under 100 meters between the lines of trenches. Enemy counter battery fire, machine gun fire and sniper fire also hampered the provision of offensive support. Greg Boudah in his words... I’m literally a red-headed stepchild from a mixed up family headed up by an jerk stepdad and a mother who was more of an anchor than a propeller. As a Navy brat, I lived all across the country and attended entirely too many schools. Two weeks after graduating high school in ‘93 I was standing on the yellow footprints of MCRD San Diego. Shortly thereafter assigned to 3rd Light Armored Battalion, then Marine Security Guard Battalion and finally Alpha 1/14 doing Forward Observer work. In 2003 the Artillery Battery I was with was with deployed to Iraq for OIF 1. I was promoted to SSgt in country and later separated from the Corps honorably. I truly had a wonderful time in the USMC and made lifelong friends. During my service, I met my Irish wife, earned a Bachelors degree and caught an unrelenting travel bug. I started working in the jewelry field after active duty and found it to be very interesting. I worked for 3 companies, learned from the best (and worst) before I started my own. I tell a story that I believe is an allegory to the times in which we are living. The story illustrates that there are three types of people in the world. Those that completely ignore the potential for future difficulties, be they economic, war, grid down, or natural disaster, those that acknowledge it but do nothing, and those that acknowledge it, educate themselves and do what they can to prepare. The term conspiracy theorist was first coined during the investigation of the event in order to quiet anyone who challenged the original story. Years of deep investigation have shown many inconsistencies, but have also revealed some scary facts. For example, how many people are aware that former president George H.W. Bush was actually present and temporarily detained during the event? One could say his political career certainly sky rocketed after these events. What about the fact that JFK’s brain has been missing for years? We’ll be discussing this Friday and we hope you’ll chime in with your thoughts. http://preppingacademy.com LIVE Every Friday Night 9pm EST on http://prepperbroadcasting.com/ Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/preppingacademy)
Joshua Brooks, medically retired from the United States Army as First Sergeant Brooks joins the A Desire to Inspire with Manny Patrick show to discuss life at war and then, life after. A proud father of five; Trystan, Madison, Daniella, Christian, and Joshua Junior, josh now makes his home in the beautiful jungle of Costa Rica. In February 2000, he left for basic training. Then he joined the United States Army as a 13F, Forward Observer. He talks about his job going anywhere on the front line, where infantry goes or beyond into or behind enemy lines and call for air support or artillery. Josh quickly made the rank of E-8, First Sergeant, in just ten years. This means he was selected by the Department of Army, part of Congress, two times for excellent service and dedication to duty. As he tells me, normally, soldiers don’t make this rank until closer to twenty years. To make this rank in just ten years put Josh in the very top one percent of performers. On top of this, Josh deployed for a total of over three years to combat. Iraq 2002-2003, 2006-2007, and 2009-2010. He served in units such as the 1-23 Tomahawk Stryker Brigade, 1stSpecial Forces, and the Henry Lind Leadership Academy. His awards and decorations include;1 Bronze Star Medal, 1 Meritorious Service Medal, 5 Army Commendation Medals, 6 Army Achievement Medals, 1 Air Force Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Accommodation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, 4 Non-commissioned Officer Development Medal, Combat Action Badge, The Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Long Range Reconnaissance Identifier Badge,Marksmanship Qualification Badge Expert with Carbine. Josh talks about how proud he is of the time served in the Military and very grateful to have served amongst the humble heroes who made his time in the service so enjoyable. Then Josh talks about what he learned and experienced during this time and how it will forever be a part of what motivates him to continue to grow and be a better man. The brotherhood within the Army, of those whom you deploy to war with, is unexplainable and unforgettable, he says. Josh has found the deepest fulfillment in the success and happiness of his children. Growing up without a father has motivated him to be the best father within his personal abilities. Although, he don’t currently live with some of his children, he puts forth his greatest efforts to maintain a strong relationship with them and to be the foundation they need in their lives. He talks about how he also learned through time away, that it is never the quantity of time you spend with someone but it is the consistency of how you spend time, and the quality of time, you spend with them that will forever touch their hearts and minds. Nothing makes Josh smile the same as seeing the smiles of all five children. A proud father of them all for their will to succeed, excellent grades in school, and most of all their loving and respectful personalities. To the next step in the journey. In This Episode You Will Learn About: -Why Josh joined the military - What life was like on the war grounds - What was going on in his brain during war - What bothered Josh upon his return home from war - How Josh dealed with life post war - What has affected Josh the most from being at war - How many people were lost under Josh's leadership - What you are not trained for at war - Why Josh decides to live in the jungles of Costa Rica - What different types of therapy there are in the military - Why Josh felt stuck after life at war AND MUCH MORE!!

Lead Like a Marine welcomes Mr Steve Hoeft. Steve once told me a way that I can easily remember how to correctly pronounce his name... it's just like sliding into home plate... "SAFE". Easy to remember. Steve served in the United States Marine Corps from 1997 to 2001 and achieved the rank of SSgt. Steve serves as the regional member coordinator for Trust Vets. Steve is a consultant, trainer and coach to companies large and small on the areas of sales and leadership. You are going to love this interview! He shares some sage wisdom for service members looking to transition as well as for those who may have already made the transition into the civilian marketplace.
