En 2017, War for the Planet of the Apes offrait une très bonne conclusion à la trilogie.

Last night was the third straight game in which the Mets got fewer than five innings of work from their starting pitcher, with Tylor Megill exiting the mound in Atlanta having recorded just 14 outs. That was the same number as David Peterson on Monday night, and two more than Carlos Carrasco managed on Sunday in St. Louis.Carrasco has had 10 starts of fewer than five innings this season, matching his total of a year ago, and becoming the first Mets starter to have multiple seasons of such futility. The record is 11 starts where no amount of offense would have qualified the pitcher for the win, set unsurprisingly in 1962, by Jay Hook — who did complete 13 of his 34 starts that year, too. Glendon Rusch completed one of his 33 starts in 2001, and also got bounced early 11 times to match Hook.Along with Carrasco, the Mets have had Al Jackson in 1963 and Jack Fisher in 1965 reach double figures in this sorry category. So, never more than one pitcher in a season, although they've been close: Jackson had nine in 1962, as did Galen Cisco in ‘65. Gary Gentry and Nolan Ryan each had nine in 1971, as did the trio of Mark Bomback, Ray Burris, and John Pacella in 1980. Peterson is one away from making it another sour trifecta. It was the 1980 Mets who set the team record for this with 58 games in which a pitcher failed to get through five innings. Last year, they got to 40. It's not September yet, and they're at 38, with Carrasco one away from tying the team record, Megill now at eight, and Peterson with seven. The remaining 13 of those starts: three apiece by Joey Lucchesi, Max Scherzer, and Kodai Senga, two by Denyi Reyes, and one each by José Butto and Justin Verlander. This is a public episode. Mark Bomback had never made anyone cry with previous films. He is best known for action-packed movies like The War of Planet of the Apes and Total Recall. But after reading the best-selling book The Art of Racing in the Rain by author Garth Stein, Bomback did two things: adopted his yellow lab Jagger and wrote a tear-jerking-screenplay. A golden retriever, Enzo (voice by Kevin Costner) believes that after dogs die, they are reincarnated as a human. This philosophy drives Enzo to learn everything he can from his racecar driving human played by Milo Ventimiglia. Enzo helps his family navigate moments of joy and great sorrow, paying close attention in the hopes that next time, he can be one of them. Join host James Jacobson for a moving and funny conversation with Mark Bomback about love, dogs, and Enzo's philosophy. About Mark Bomback In 1994 Mark Bomback got his first job: as an assistant for Eagles' guitarist Glenn Frey. He held that job for a year before going on to become a screenwriter. His first credited screenplay was The Night Caller (1998). He has since gone on to co-write the scripts for numerous blockbuster films, including Live Free or Die Hard (2007), The Wolverine (2013) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). He's also done uncredited rewrites on several other high-profile films, such as Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), Logan (2017) and The Mummy (2017.) His most recent project is the crime drama miniseries Defending Jacob produced by Apple TV+, and the American war drama film White Bird: A Wonder Story (2022). Here's an unexpected perk Mark Bomback got for writing The Art of Racing in the Rain: he got to make people cry. The prolific screenwriter is more accustomed to writing big action movies, where trains blow up and buildings fall. But after his script about a dog narrating his last canine incarnation was released, he saw people crying on planes as they watched it on in-flight entertainment. The movie, which stars Kevin Costner as Enzo, and Milo Ventimiglia as his human, was released right in a weird time for the movie business. We had just stopped going to the theaters and started streaming films instead. Now that The Art of Racing in the Rain is on Disney+, more folks are seeing it and it's sparking a real conversation. Mark Bomback’s screenwriting education came from reading hundreds of screenplays. While working in the mailroom, he volunteered to read and provide coverage on submitted scripts, which taught him how to write, but also how not to write. These days, he’s known for Live Free or Die Hard, Unstoppable, Total Recall, The Wolverine, The Art of Racing in the Rain, the recent Planet of the Apes prequels, and Apple’s new series, Defending Jacob, starring Chris Evans. The 8-episode story behind Defending Jacob started with a 13-page treatment based on the novel. The story is a character-driven thriller about an assistant DA who’s world is shattered when his son is charged with murder. In this interview, Bomback discusses how writers can self-educate, how he uses something called the “silent partner,” why writing is a craft not an art, why writers need to occasionally just write the bad version of the scene, and how to improve bulletproof drafts. Although likely best known as Lady Mary Crawley, Michelle Dockery seems to reinvent herself in compelling role after compelling role, proving there’s little she can’t do. The English stage-to-screen star has learned how to harness nerves in auditions, avoid over-preparing for a role, and channel vulnerability into her characters. “You walk on every day feeling vulnerable,” she says. “We’re all just holding hands and jumping in and seeing what happens.” Trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in her hometown of London, Michelle turned her breakout role in the National Theatre’s production of “His Dark Materials” into a steady career of on-camera work in the U.K. and U.S., earning three SAG Award wins and four Emmy nominations. From Lady Mary in Julian Fellowes’ hit series “Downton Abbey” and its 2019 feature film, to “Anna Karenina,” “Good Behavior,” “Godless,” “The Gentlemen,” and now Mark Bomback’s “Defending Jacob” from AppleTV+, it seems there’s little she can’t do. An exciting #BTLRadioShow this week as we welcome back writer/director LISE RAVEN to talk about her wonderful film SNAELAND, plus our prerecorded exclusive interview with creator/writer/showrunner MARK BOMBACK talking about the riveting mini-series on Apple TV – DEFENDING JACOB. First up is our prerecorded exclusive interview with MARK BOMBACK, the creator and writer of the acclaimed hit mini-series, DEFENDING JACOB! Now before you take a listen, be warned – SPOILERS! Mark and I discuss all aspects of the show, including spoilers for those who haven't yet seen it, and because of that we purposely decided together to hold this interview until after the series finale aired this past weekend. Listen as we talk about everything from adapting William Landay's novel and some key changes to the story to Mark tackling a series versus a feature film to casting (and potential Emmy noms for Jaeden Martell and Cherry Jones) to the wearing of a very wide-brimmed production hat to deviating from the novel with some truly surprising results. This is an absolute "Must See"! Catch it now on Apple TV at https://apple.co/_DefendingJacob. And then a big welcome back to LISE RAVEN and SNAELAND. Lise joined us last August as SNAELAND was just coming onto the festival circuit and we knew then it was going to be making a big splash. Making the rounds since then, SNAELAND is currently screening in the Brooklyn Film Festival which is being done virtually – and it's FREE! You can watch SNAELAND and 147 other terrific films 24/7 just by logging into the festival site! Take a listen as Lise talks about how this virtual film festival concept is working for her as a creator and filmmaker, plus, of great interest to filmmakers will be Lise's thoughts on the viability and feasibility of making a film with sanitation and social distancing during life in the time of Covid. Interesting is that for indie filmmakers with smaller crews, Lise thinks any new protocols put into place for production will be not that difficult to implement and execute. Of course, important to Lise is the filmmaking carbon footprint and we talk again about SNAELAND being shot in Iceland and done purposefully in order to minimize its carbon footprint, but also how minimizing the carbon footprint plays into potential new production protocols for social distancing and sanitizing. But particularly timely and topical is our discussion on the issue of journalism and an individual's right to tell their own story. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

To that end, we talk MINORITY REPORT, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, MUDBOUND, and THE LOBSTER - with a special mention of high school movies. We continue refining our tools surrounding antagonists/sources of conflict: obstacles, pressure, enablers, pushers, pullers, education and thwarting. We especially focus on how the pressures of the system/world/society force characters to either submit to the system, overthrow it or escape it; and how framing all of your characters’ journeys in relation to the rules of the world they inhabit can lead to a thematically strong story. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. One of the most iconic franchises of all time, The Planet of the Apes, received a second reboot in 2011 to what turned out to be a surprise success. Expecting a smaller box office than a nominal Hollywood tentpole film, the film burst to being a blockbuster and one of the top films of that year. Now the third installment entitled War of the Planet of the Apes has arrived to critical praise. Years after the events of the prior two films, Caesar’s community has settled into a somewhat peaceful existence. With prior foes no more, everything seems okay. Yet, a new group of humans from the Northwest has begun to hunt down the intelligent apes. With a stealth attack that leaves his oldest son and wife dead, Caesar makes a decision to go after the threat. The struggle he now has will be to seek justice or vengeance. Andy Serkis takes on the role of Caesar for a third time. With a budget much smaller than the prior installment, this Matt Reeves directed and Mark Bomback written film seems to be a half step behind. Yet it has been received critically as the best of the bunch. Dark Discussions Podcast takes a look at this latest in the franchise. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
