OK, so we don't actually cover Dan Lanning's new contract in today's episode of The Traffic Report — we recorded Wednesday afternoon — but the big man signing a big $$$ deal is news enough that it's worth leading today's post. The terms? The fourth-year Ducks coach has reportedly agreed to an amended contract that will increase his salary to nearly $11 million per year through 2031. The contract will be up for approval on Friday during a UO board of trustees meeting. What does this mean? For a program that considers itself one of the top in the nation, it's now paying its top job like it. Lanning's new deal will make him the fourth-highest paid coach in college football, according to CBS Sports, increasing his current contract by $2 million annually. Here's the list of football coaches making more than $10 million a year: 1. Kirby Smart, Georgia $13.2 million 2. Ryan Day, Ohio State $12.5 million 3. Dabo Swinney, Clemson $11.5 million 4. Dan Lanning, Oregon $11 million 5. Steve Sarkisian, Texas $10.8 million 6. Kalen DeBoer, Alabama $10.25 million7. Lincoln Riley, USC $10.1 million8. Bill Belichick, UNC $10 million Pretty good company there. But after a 35-6 start to his career, with a 12-0 regular season and a Big Ten Championship in his third year as a head coach, it's hard to make the argument that Lanning isn't worth the money when compared to his peers. It's also interesting to start thinking of the longevity of Lanning. Chip Kelly coached four seasons at Oregon — same with Mark Helfrich and Mario Cristobal. Should Lanning make it to the end of this deal — there's the same $20 million buyout — the coach who came to Oregon as an outsider will have made it longer in Eugene than anyone not named Bellotti, Brooks or Casanova. OK, now to the podcast: This week Justin and I have a range of topics to dive into, from Oregon's home finale on Tuesday against Indiana to what might be the end of spring football to the best goosebump-moments stadiums can provide. Hey everyone, welcome back to another review! Today, I'll be reviewing the newly-released Amazon Christmas action-comedy: Red One, starring The Rock and Chris Evans. I was initially pretty excited for this one because I loved the pitch and I'm just someone who loves Christmas... but those trailers, woof. Since then, I've been a little cold towards this film and now having seen it, it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect it to be. That being said, listen on to find out why I think this movie will still be unfairly mocked once more people get to see it! Red One Directed by: Jake Kasdan Screenplay by: Chris Morgan Story by: Hiram Garcia Produced by: Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Chris Morgan Executive Producers: Ainsley Davies, Barry Waldman Music by: Henry Jackman Cinematography by: Dan Mindel Edited by: Steve Edwards, Mark Helfrich, Tara Timpone Casting by: Nicole Abellera, Katie Doyle, Jeanne McCarthy Production Design by: Bill Brzeski Costume Design by: Michael Crow, Laura Jean Shannon Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipka Synopsis: After Santa Claus (codename: Red One) is kidnapped, the North Pole's Head of Security must team up with the world's most infamous bounty hunter in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.
For the last decade, even as Oregon reached a national championship game under Mark Helfrich and won a Rose Bowl under Mario Cristobal, it's felt like the UO program had still been chasing the ghost of the Chip Kelly era. The coolness. The popularity. The branding. The dominance. But after Saturday's win against Ohio State, that era is finally beginning to feel like a long time ago.Justin Myers joined me on this week's Traffic Report to dive in on the thought. The I-5 Corridor is a reader-supported publication.

The last time Tyson and Aidan got together for an I-5 Corridor podcast, Mario Cristobal was Oregon's head coach, the Ducks were about to play for the Pac-12 championship and Twitter wasn't angling to put us out of business. So today, we had a bit of catching up to do, beginning with Aidan's thought's on the Dan Lanning hire. “It's a little late to want to go back to where Oregon's been.I thought firing Mark Helfrich was a mistake. I thought there was a lot of value in staff continuity and it was a big part of what made Oregon a really special place. But we're five years removed from that and three head coaches removed from that. I think that was what it was — a great era at Oregon and there was a lot of success, but at this point you want to hire the best guy you can get and Oregon feels like they got that in Dan Lanning.” You can listen in the player above, or find us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. If you're receiving this free podcast and would like to upgrade to a paid subscription that gives you access to all stories, you can do so by clicking the button below.Follow Aidan Schneider on Twitter. Jordan Travis lit up the night, running a triple-option offense which led the Florida State Seminoles to a 41-24 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. A shaky start from true freshman Tate Rodemaker included a bad interception return for a touchdown on an ill-advised throw, and three other poor drives. Rodemaker did not return for the fifth drive. Jordan Travis, the redshirt sophomore out of The Benjamin School, ran a triple option offense reminiscent of Chip Kelly’s Oregon Ducks. Seminoles fans are all too familiar, having seen Kelly’s protege Mark Helfrich and his charge Marcus Mariota run a similar offense in the Ducks’ 2014 Rose Bowl win over FSU. Tomahawk Nation writer and Four Verts co-host Jon Marchant gave his thoughts on the Seminoles’ first win under Mike Norvell in this instant reaction podcast. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/support

As the Bears come out of their bye week, Rich Campbell and Dan Wiederer look at the offense by going all the way back through the 2019 offseason and examine how the Bears assessed their offense and quarterback Mitch Trubisky's evolution. They look at what coach Matt Nagy, offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich and general manager Ryan Pace said about their vision for the offense and what their target is as they proceed from an underwhelming first five games. The discussion includes a look at Trubisky's accuracy, his command of the scheme and how the Bears plan to accelerate his development. They finish the show with a crown for Mrs. Wiederer, who is more athletic than the two of them put together.
Tarik Cohen, the Bears' All-Pro return specialist, joins the podcast, as Rich and Dan spotlight the offense during full-squad spring practices. They chat with Cohen (2:56 mark) about his Pro Bowl experience, the Bears’ retooled backfield and his work for New Era hats, which occasionally includes him trying to “copy coach (Matt) Nagy’s swag with the visor.” In That’s Just Stupid, Rich and Dan scratch their heads over Trey Burton’s offseason sports hernia surgery and wonder about his return (17:42). They dig into Mitch Trubisky’s progress (27:37) using insight from offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich and quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone. In Crown ‘Em, they assess they state of the elusive Khalil Mack and get an up-close look at his presence during practice (47:50). That discussion includes Dan playing proverbial ominous music about the avalanche of attention headed the Bears’ way in 2019 (49:16).

Michigan embarrassed Rutgers to the tune of 78-0. It’s a score you rarely seen in college football and even more scarce between conference opponents. Jim Harbaugh is trying to send a message to the rest of the college football world. Maybe it’s that his Wolverines are good or maybe it’s that is he partially crazy. Both are true, but beating a team 78-0 generally comes back to haunt a coach. The PAC 12 is officially a mess. The conference powers of the last few seasons and in their place has arose the Washington Huskies. The Huskies are looking good, smashing the Oregon Ducks. It now to the point at Oregon where they are officially done for this season and need to start making decisions about whether Mark Helfrich is the coach for the future. Stanford was supposed to walk away with the conference crown this season. That train has completely left the tracks. Washington State hammered David Shaw’s squad despite having one of the best players in the country. Shaw is still the right man for the job, but it appears there is a serious talent drain in Palo Alto. The Ohio State Buckeyes struggled against the Indiana Hoosiers. It is a team that has given Urban Meyer trouble during his Buckeye tenure. While never losing, the Buckeyes have had issues stopping the Indiana offense in the past. This game was different. It was the Hoosier defense that stepped up to slow the Ohio State offense. The offensive line needs to step up their consistency. JT Barrett was under too much pressure. The Wisconsin defensive front seven is the real deal. They come to play every game and while they may not have the elite athletes, they are tough, physical and play sound football. The little Watt on the edge doesn’t hurt either. For OSU to win it will come down to JT Barrett and the offensive line. SHUTDOWN FULLCAST BACK. This time we continue our preview series with a random selection of schools best described as...well, very, very random indeed. Topics and teams covered: --Charlie Weis STILL GETS PAID DOLLAZ BY NOTRE DAME. He last coached for them in 2009. You can laugh about this, because the goal is to pull off a Charlie Weis as hard as you can in life and get paid too much money to do things you demonstrably cannot do. --How Oregon football 2016 is still best described as "waiting to see if Mark Helfrich can really do his job, because the Ducks are so talented it's hard to tell whether they're about to implode or not". Also remember how they lost to Utah by 42 at home this year? And hired Brady Hoke to fix their defensive problems? --A leisurely stroll through Utah football's prospects, including an appreciation of how damn long Kyle Whittingham has been in Salt Lake City, and how often he's worked out there. (Every day, and never, ever skipping bicep day.) --Kansas is still playing football! And will probably lose eleven straight games this year. :( --Minnesota is also still playing football! Big, ponderous, ice-cream fat football we think will win like, five games or so. --The internet's most extensive and thorough Notre Dame preview!
Can a laugh out loud gross out comedy also count as a sweet, uplifting romcom? Possibly, but Good Luck Chuck (2007) is neither of these. Rated 5% on Rotten Tomatoes, Good Luck Chuck stars Dane Cook and Jessica Alba. Directed by Mark Helfrich and written by Josh Stolberg, this comedy is about a charming dentist who is worried about losing the woman he loves due to a childhood curse: Sleep with him once, and the next man you meet will be your true love. While this is the best movie we've seen yet, it still leaves plenty to be desired. We get lost in the weeds about what makes a romantic comedy good, and how Good Luck Chuck should be split into two separate films. And we answer listener mail! David Piper and Rusty Ryan are back to break down Oregon's loss to Arizona. Duck fans need to understand that Chip Kelly isn't walking through that door, and calls to fire Mark Helfrich are off-base. George Schroeder of USA Today joins CBR's Allen Kenney to discuss Chip Kelly's departure from Oregon for the Philadelphia Eagles and the future of the program under new coach Mark Helfrich.
