Chic is not typically a word associated with fish. But it is fitting for Fishwife. A modern, super-premium brand of tinned seafood, Fishwife is the brainchild of entrepreneurs Becca Millstein and Caroline Goldfarb. Launched in December 2020, the Los Angeles-based company markets ethically sourced canned tuna, salmon, trout and anchovies from fisheries and aquaculture farms in the United States and Europe. Known for its bright and quirky label designs, Fishwife built a thriving DTC business early on and gradually introduced distribution to select brick-and-mortar retailers across the U.S. Earlier this year, Whole Foods began selling Fishwife products at stores in its Southern Pacific region and will add them to its Northern California locations this summer.  In this episode, Millstein spoke about the “light bulb” moment and planning process that led to the development of Fishwife, the impact of its striking label design on trial and word of mouth marketing, her perspective on scaling a niche concept and how she navigated and learned from a potentially devastating sourcing crisis. Show notes: 0:43: Interview: Becca Millstein, Co-Founder/CEO, Fishwife - Millstein met with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif at Expo West 2023 where the entrepreneur spoke about Fishwife's emergence as a “pandemic baby,” parallels between her previous career in the music industry and that of consumer products and why it was important to identify the brand's target consumer early on. She also explained how Fishwife's branding and label designs generated significant interest among consumer and trade media and foundation for DTC success, the day that Millstein worried that her business was in peril and how she planned to avoid a similar one in the future and how she assesses partnerships with other consumer brands. Candace Nelson, a serial entrepreneur, founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, and author of Sweet Success, got laid off during the dot-com bubble, leading her to reevaluate her career path. Growing up baking, Candace decided to fill her unemployed free time by attending pastry school. This experience unlocked her passion, making her realize that she needed to pursue a career that brought fulfillment and joy. She took a considerable risk and poured her life savings into creating the world's first cupcake bakery. As the original trailblazer transforming the cupcake from a commodity to a luxury experience, Candace was a pioneer. She also came up with the idea of the cupcake ATM, which allows customers to purchase cupcakes 24/7, a solution to her problem of not being able to get her hands on a cupcake late at night while having a pregnancy craving. But as you'll learn from this episode and her new book, you can't just rely on your one big idea. Innovation doesn't sleep, and competitors are just one step behind you. Candace has now expanded into pizza with a brand called Pizzana. Her book, Sweet Success, is a comprehensive guide to entrepreneurship, not a sugarcoated version--she shares the mishaps, mistakes, and hard-earned lessons she learned. In this episode, Candace speaks about the importance of perseverance and resilience and reminds listeners and aspiring entrepreneurs that before a 'yes,' there will be many more 'no's.' She also shares her approach to decision-making, which includes using her gut, heart, and mind, and emphasizes the importance of being intentional in everything. As we face an economic downturn, many people worldwide are forced to reevaluate their careers and what direction they want to go in life. Candace's story and Sweet Success are the perfect inspiration and toolkit for anyone who wants to build a brand.

When Candace Nelson and her husband Charles co-founded the Sprinkles cupcake company, their friends and family thought it was a terrible idea. “We were essentially two out-of-work investment bankers looking to bet it all on cupcakes at the height of a low-carb craze,” Candace said to host Kerry Diamond. Candace, who today is a much sought-after dessert and start-up expert, has compiled the two subjects into a business book titled Sweet Success: A Simple Recipe To Turn Your Passion Into Profit.Candace joins us to share the challenges faced in getting Sprinkles up and running, the lessons she learned along the way, and some of the wisdom found in Sweet Success.Thank you to Käserei Champignon, the maker of Cambozola cheese for supporting this episode. Subscribe to our newsletter and check out past episodes and transcripts here. News: The food event that is coming to Disney California Adventure next month finally has an official name: “A Touch of Disney.” Since there won’t be entertainment or attractions for this event, calling it a Festival was not in the cards. The name is similar to the name that Knott’s used this year, “Taste of Knott’s.” – https://www.micechat.com/282214-disneyland-update-openings-closings-and-glimmers-of-hope/ Last week, Disney had their quarterly earnings call with investors. Not much Disneyland news, except that Disney plans to decrease their budget for Parks, Experiences, and Products and funnel that money into Direct to Consumer, which is TV, movies, and streaming. Bob Chapek also talked about how the pandemic allowed them to rethink their passholder program and how limited attendance could be going forward. Finally, he didn’t expect masks and social distancing at the parks to continue in 2022. – https://www.micechat.com/282214-disneyland-update-openings-closings-and-glimmers-of-hope/ One of the limited capacity issues that they face is overall attendance with reopening Disneyland during the pandemic. One of the possible strategies would be to offer “day-parting” tickets. Day Parting tickets allow Disney to split one day into two parts, each with different tickets needed to attend. Disneyland could then sell, say 15,000 tickets for the first part of the day, remaining within capacity limits, then sell another 15,000 for the second part of the day, bringing capacity up to 30,000 guests a day. – https://www.micechat.com/282214-disneyland-update-openings-closings-and-glimmers-of-hope/ Star Wars Trading Post will be opening to the public this week after some early access days for Legacy Passholders. This location will be more flexible with the timeline for Star Wars than Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. Merchandise from all eras of the universe will be on sale. The exterior is still themed to be a Resistance base, but also fits in with other iconic locations. Inside the location, Grogu’s pram will be on display. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/02/11/how-disney-imagineering-turned-the-rainforest-cafe-into-a-star-wars-rebel-base-in-downtown-disney/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/02/11/disneys-new-star-wars-store-will-have-details-from-the-mandaloridan/ La Brea Bakery has reopened in Downtown Disney! The beginning of the article is very moving. It reads “At sunset on Dec. 5 last year — Walt Disney’s 119th birthday — security officer Ernie “Gunny” Napper lowered the flag in Disneyland’s Town Square, and walked it over to a private apartment above the firehouse where Disney spent many of his days and nights staring out the window at the excited crowds rushing into his newly opened fantasy kingdom. The retired Marine Corp. gunnery sergeant and a few other security officers, custodial and maintenance staff still working at the empty park began singing “Happy Birthday” to the man who gave children from all over the world the best day of their lives. And, as he has five nights a week for the last 29 years, Gunny lingered a bit under Disney’s window with a lamp in it that never gets turned off, to tell his boss how the day went, and how sad it is in the happiest place on earth without those children. “I talk to him a lot, I do,” Gunny says. “I see Mr. Disney in my mind clear as day standing at that window at sunset and watching the security officers bring the flag down and fold it.” – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/02/11/reverent-disneyland-flag-ceremony-endures-thanks-to-gunny-and-some-day-the-kids-will-return/ Discussion Topic: Michael on 3rd Shift Custodial

I live in Torrance with my wife Molly and two children, Miles and Hattie. My wife and I have been married for 12 years. Although we settled down after the children were born, we spent a good part of the previous 8 years moving all over the country. Neither of us are native Californians, but are glad that our children are. Both of our children have development delays, and this has affected our hearts and lives immensely. My son, 7, was determined to be on the Autism spectrum when he was in Kindergarten, and since the diagnosis and treatment, we have seen a brand new kid emerge. As my wife likes to say, he does everything big, be it playing, feeling, or relaxing! My daughter is 5 and her diagnosis is a little more complex, but she is our little miracle. We are blessed with the Launch school in Torrance, which provides services to special needs children prior to Kindergarten. She is a firecracker! I am a year away from completing my Masters of Science in Leadership and Management (MSLM) through a partnership with the University of La Verne and my employer. I have begun research on EdD. programs, and may pursue my doctorate after I finish my MSLM. Other than that, I like to sing along to the radio, eat vanilla GU on long runs, and I wish corduroy pants would just come back in style! When and why did you start running? Perhaps that sense of adventure, of moving around a lot, has manifested itself in my love of running, which came to me later in life, in my, GASP, late 20’s/early 30’s. In 2012, I joined the LA Road Runners for the first time, and it has been a regular part of my life ever since. I even ran with a Mark-coached team one year! (Go Super 5). What’s the running accomplishment of which you are proudest? The Dallas Running Club Half Marathon, 2009. Life happens, right? We had a month of personal setbacks, loss of family members, and a pet that unexpectedly got sick. I had not trained for almost a month, but decided to do the race anyway. I PR’d that race, and have not gotten close to that time since. What are your current running goals? My current plan is to continue to log miles this summer, and start training for the LA Marathon in the fall with LARR. I am hoping to have a different role this fall with the team, fingers crossed! I am also planning to reach 1,000 total miles this year. Favorite running quote? “Do marathon runners know they don’t have to?” Favorite race distance? Half Marathon. Between, work, school, and family, it is not always easy to prioritize running. The half marathon is the perfect distance. It requires training, but less time than a marathon. I love marathons, and look forward to when I can more actively dedicate time to training for them. Favorite running experience? Right after we moved back to CA in 2011, a friend asked me to join him for a 5K at a water park in Irvine. Part of the race requires you to wade through chest deep water for 100 yards in a pool. I cannot remember the name of the race. Anyway, I leave the race, and on the way home, I call my wife. She had a busy day, and we were not sure if we would see each other until later in the afternoon. I talked about said 5K for about 10 minutes before my wife, waiting for a pause, let me know she was pregnant with our first-born! Now I always ask her about her day first! Moreover, that finisher medal sits proudly and prominently on the hanger! Favorite post-race indulgence? Cupcakes. Sprinkles Cupcakes. Black and White. Favorite thing about SBRC? One of my favorite things about SBRC is seeing a post on Facebook from a new member who says, I can only run (insert time of day here), I am more a casual runner, I only run a (insert great mile time here), is there a place for me? The overwhelming response is always, Yes! Just show up, you will find your people, we will help you! Amazing! My wife is a not a runner, and proudly keeps a 0.0 mile sticker on her desk. So, I embrace that we all approach this slightly differently! — with Charlie Bates.

Needless to say, there are many key takeaways you can incorporate into your events to make them successful like ours was! But Who Am I? Hi! I'm Lisa Clark and I help nonprofits and fundraisers like YOU raise money through events so you can meet your annual revenue goals! I'm also the host of a free Facebook Group, Raising with Lisa Clark, a free group for fundraisers, NPOs, development team members, volunteers, and supporters. I included a link below so you can request to join right away! Link to Join Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/112148672944584 The Gala Itself I had the honor of helping with this event this year, and I am so proud of the success that we’ve had. Historically, they have used the same set-up and on average has raised $400,000 to $500,000 run by volunteers. There are usually around 300-400 attendants. It didn’t start this way, but this is a longstanding successful event that has slowly evolved to be as successful as they have been. They use five different revenue streams in order to achieve their fundraising goals: Ticket Sales A Raffle An Auction Fund A Need Underwriting Packages They have a great partnership with Stanford Shopping Center and the auction items that they promote. The main feature is life-size playhouses that are absolutely huge and gorgeous. Some even have to be moved by crane! While this is quite an undertaking, this is an incredibly fruitful event for this organization. Changing It Up With Fund A Need In the past, the organization would auction off 12 of these houses, but this year they implemented Fund-A-Need due to the decline of the number of funds raised from auctioning off the playhouses. Decreasing the number of houses on auction, and creating these Fund A Need options allowed there to be more opportunities for people to donate who otherwise couldn’t have. Creating this new source of revenue paid off! Having a Ton of Options Any large auction that I have attended has an option for everyone’s pocketbook. While you could think that it could be overwhelming for your guests, having more options that can appeal to any budget will only bring you more funds for your organization. People will donate if they have the option. Opening up this new revenue stream, allowed the attendees to donate even if bidding on the playhouses wasn’t something that they could afford. Organizing the Fundraiser In the past, this event has been run heavily by volunteers with the Director of Development overseeing things. There were different chairs that took care of the playhouses and maintaining the relationship with the Shopping Center and the builders. Then there were two people that oversaw the decor. There would also be a committee chair that would oversee the auction to make sure that it all ran smoothly and the auction items were organized. The Registration Team would also be in place to get people signed up, pass out name tags, etc. This year, with Fund A Need in place, there was a pre-registration option for people’s credit cards for when they would bid on the playhouses. A team would also be assigned for recruiting auction items and sponsorships from shops within the center. The final team would then go to restaurants to solicit for catering options for the event. In our case, we were able to get McDonald’s french fries, Sprinkles Cupcakes, California Pizza Kitchen and more. Having these different team can sound like a lot, but having different teams assigned to these teams really helped to ensure that things were planned. As this event was mainly run by volunteers in the past, this year they brought me on because there were many volunteers that weren’t able to return to help. This changed things up, but in the end, recruiting help was necessary to have this event run smoothly this year. It was also beneficial to bring help on, as Fund A Need was a new thing they decided to put into place. Sometimes getting help with your event can pay off in a big way! Underwriting Packages For Sale In partnership with the Development Team and the Executive Director, the Underwriting Chair made a home run with selling underwriting packages! This package includes being featured on all the possible places that the event was being promoted. In our case, there were banners in the shopping center, on the event’s website, social media, and more. Not only that, these sponsors received perks that were exclusive to these packages. The sponsors get tickets to invite their own guests, have a VIP table, had access to  Champagne and Wine(Thanks Tesla!), early check-in, and front row access passes to the auction. These kinds of packages are really appealing to businesses and big spenders. Offering them are a nice way for people to be able to simply help your organization and have you thank them for being involved! Marketing The Event This organization took advantage of both the old fashioned and new ways of generating interest in the event. This included: Email Marketing Social Media Facebook Ads Advertising Banners in the shopping center Hard Copy Invitations Local Publications While I don’t have access to the stats from the Facebook Ads, they were able to attract attention to the organization through them. Without these ads, the event may not have reached the locals that it would have otherwise not been in front of. Taking advantage of social media is a great way to get in the face of new people for your organization. If you would like guidance in how to promote your event through social media be sure to check out my course: https://www.raisingwithlisaclark.com/offers/DhnDgrxn/checkout Investing in Your Event The full scope of this event was huge! Seeing 500 chairs dropped off by a rental company can seem crazy. Then there are the catering fees, beverage fees, etc. to tag on top of everything else. This event cost the organization around $60,000, but they raised $470,000. What I’m here to tell you is that if you invest in an event, you will see the return on investment. I encourage you to make a bold move to try something new!   What I also want to point out, is don’t be afraid of the numbers that I reference. My numbers are going to be different than yours. While I might have had to spend $2,000 for a venue, you might only need to spend $300. Get out there and start getting quotes. Know what’s available to you and don’t be afraid thinking an event is going to cost you a crazy amount! This will be different for each event, based on location and time of the year.   Getting Help This is an established and fairly successful organization, but things have to change with the times sometimes. WIth the lack of available volunteers and then having volunteers need to fulfill other obligations in their life, there was a lot of pressure put onto the event board to help this fundraising event come together. The choice this organization made to get the help they needed, was essential in my opinion to help this event continue to be successful and fruitful. While I think we all are self starters who want to do it all, there are times when changing up how you run things can keep you from floundering in the end.   If you’ve been thinking about investing in my course “Fundraising Events that Deliver” now is the time to do it! The price right now is $497, but that is going to go up SOON! New material and resources are going to be added soon that you will get access to, but once it’s there, there will be a an increase. Now’s the time to get access to my full system to create successful events, and have the opportunity to pick my brain when it comes to your specific event. I can’t wait for you to join me!   FUNDRAISING EVENTS THAT DELIVER Go from barely breaking even to having a sold-out annual fundraising event! …all while creating amazing donor relations, surpassing your goals, and supporting the cause you believe in! OH YES! I WANNA KNOW MORE!   Don't forget to connect with me on other social media platforms as well! Our guest for this episode is Candace Nelson, who skyrocketed to culinary fame after she and her husband Charles launched Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills in 2005. Candace is the quintessential entrepreneur. She is someone who is daring enough to break from the mold, and built an empire with sweat, ingenuity and a dream. She continues to generate ideas and chase new opportunities -- just because that's who she is. In addition to Sprinkles, Candace recently launched her newest culinary venture, Pizzana, a critically-acclaimed pizza restaurant with a location in Brentwood and a second location that just opened in West Hollywood.Candace's entrepreneurial talents aren't just limited to what she can bake in an oven. She just launched a men's athleisure brand with her husband called Willy, and she’s also built a massive media career. She is the executive producer and judge of a new Netflix baking competition show, Sugar Rush, after being a longtime judge on Food Network's Cupcake Wars. She’s also launching a podcast with Dear Media called Live to Eat. And if that weren't enough, she and her husband make early stage investments in innovative retail and consumer brands through Cm2 Holdings. Candace's career spans brick and mortar retail, e-commerce, media and investing. Her philosophy is that if something is well-made, people will want to pay for it and indulge, and all of her ventures have proved this to be true.

Steve travels to Los Angeles to talk with Daniele Uditi, the Pizzaiolo at Pizzana, in Brentwood. Uditi comes from a small, Italian village, where he first learned how to bake with his “auntie” but later, came to America and worked at various restaurants, before settling on his own style of pizza – a kind of artisan-meets-Neapolitan, with a slightly lower oven temperature than traditional Neapolitans, that results in a slightly longer baking time. A chance meeting with actor Chris O’Donnell (and a series of pizza parties at his home for friends and colleagues) led to a partnership with both the O’Donnells and the owners of Sprinkles Cupcakes. They eventually opened Pizzana in Brentwood. The late L.A. Times critic Jonathan Gold was a huge fan of the pizzas, and a glowing review led to even more success. The partners have also opened a second location on Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The curiousity to explore and thrist to learn are two qualities that define Julie Felss Masino. She works tirelessly to build culture, innovate for the future, and lead by example. And now, as North American President of Taco Bell, she is doing it for the world to see. Her career has inscluded incredible brand work at Coach, Godiva, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Fisher Price and 10+ years at Starbucks. Her experience in the restaurant and retail world is unmatched. I think you’ll appreciate her honesty of what her daily schedule is like and what it takes to bring companies to the top. Show Notes: “Companies who sit still find themselves behind”  “Always solve consumer needs before the consumer knows they need it”  Day in the Life of a North American President. Get to the office early: it’s imperative to have time before everyone comes into the office. Being a leader means being ready for the day and to know what’s coming. You want to show up well, be prepared for every meeting, and to know if you should have an opinion about a matter. Give yourself an hour where you don’t have to think. It’s super important to let the mind be free before going to bed, so you can fully show up to work. Sometimes You Work Weekends. Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, led by example to always be on and to always be working. It’s necessary to unplug on the weekends and try activities such as pilates, yoga, or hiking. Lead by Example. Don’t take the responsibility of being a leader lightly. Believe in teamwork, positivity, optimism and to bring everything to your role. Ultimate questions of being a leader: How do you inspire and put the right people in the right roles? How do you give your team the tools to be the best? How do you challenge them to be the best? All of these leadership questions stem from holding the bar high for yourself. Never ask anyone to do something if you wouldn’t do it. Always Be Curious. Read a lot and ask a lot of questions. It’s important to be very confident and to not be afraid to ask for help or admitting you need help. Help Others Along the Way. Look around you at Miami University or in your career and make friends. Share knowledge and help your peer group. It’s beneficial to help others along the way and to nurture these relationships now. Say Yes. Say yes to new opportunities and try new things whether it’s in a role or location If you want a bigger role in leadership, it’s important to understand the bigger picture of business and to take roles even if it’s not in your specialty. It makes you a better and more well-rounded leader. Not only this, it makes you a better human and widens your lens to understand there’s not one way to do things. Make sure you have a network you have the ability to say yes to new things. Sometimes you have to say no, ensure you’re saying “not now” to open more opportunities later in your career. Innovation Is Important. Work with brands you are passionate about and believe in. Key reasons for coming to Taco Bell: being in a culture that reinvents the business playbook, they are passionate about their customers, and want to continue to be a part of their lives in fun ways.

CROHN’S & COLITIS FOUNDATION HONORS BROOKE ABBOTT, SHAWN LACY BULLEN AND ROXY SOWLATY AT TENTH ANNUAL WOMEN OF DISTINCTION LUNCHEON Los Angeles, CA– The Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation will celebrate its 10th Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon on May 17, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Each year the foundation recognizes women who are successful in their fields and celebrate their commitment to philanthropy. The 2017 Honorees include: Brooke Abbott, creator/blogger for The Crazy Creole Mommy Chronicles and owner of The Crazy Creole Mommy Life, Inc; Shawn Lacy Bullen, Owner/Managing Director, Biscuit Filmworks; and Roxy Sowlaty, Beverly Hills based interior designer. Past honorees include Jamie Lee Curtis, Mary Hart, Wendy Goldberg, Joyce Brandman, Mindy Weiss, Amy Brenneman, Judy Felsenthal, Evelyn Heyward, Linda Howard, Bobbe Joy Dawson, Barbara Herman, Lisa Greer, Tina Finkelman Berkett, and Janice Bryant Howroyd. We are pleased to announce that Bloomingdale's Century City, last year’s fashion show presenter, has agreed to partner with us once again and present the 2017 fashion show. In addition, Sprinkles Cupcakes of Beverly Hills has generously donated cupcakes for each guest. “Since 1967, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has been a leader at the forefront of research in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, committed to innovation and collaboration through uniting all patients, caregivers, providers, donors, and researchers to find cures for these diseases. As a volunteer driven organization, we rely on the generous support of local people and businesses to fuel our programs. Without the sponsorship of Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills and the support of Bloomingdale’s Century City, we simply couldn’t support the 90,000 patients in our community”, said Ashley Atkins, Executive Director. The Women of Distinction Luncheon is a highly anticipated event of the Beverly Hills social season and is attended by 500 prominently influential leaders and philanthropists in the Greater Los Angeles community. For tickets and information: (310) 478-4500 or visit bit.ly/wod2017la. About the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation For the past 50 years, the Foundation has supported the IBD community with the goal to ultimately achieve our vision – a future free of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. One out of 200 Americans has Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (also called Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD), and 5% of all those diagnosed are under the age of 18. Proceeds from the Women of Distinction Luncheon fund cutting-edge medical research, education programs for patients and healthcare professionals, and support programs such as Camp Oasis, the foundation’s summer camp for children who suffer from IBD. More than 82 cents of every dollar received goes directly to support our mission. For more information about the foundation, visit www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org. Media Contact Ashley Atkins Executive Director Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Greater Los Angeles Chapter (323) 369-6409 aatkins@ccfa.org Information on the 2017 Women of Distinction Luncheon Honorees: In 2008, Brooke Abbott was diagnosed with left-sided ulcerative colitis. Though it was a mild case at diagnosis, the disease rapidly advanced over a period of four years. In 2009, Ms. Abbott traded in her film and television production notebook for a diaper bag with the birth of her son, Jaxon Lee Coltrane. While navigating through motherhood, Abbott began to tweet about her adventures with her newborn with the hashtag, #CrazyCreoleMommy. The stories behind her tweets and Facebook statuses grew larger than the allotted 140 characters and by 2011, her new life needed its own vehicle. In January 2012, The Crazy Creole Mommy Chronicles were born. In April 2012, Abbott was given a total colectomy after spending weeks in the hospital fighting a losing battle with her diseased colon. She was given an ostomy for five months, as a transition into receiving her JPouch. She now lives with an internal J-Pouch and her health continues to change for the better. Still without insurance, arthritis, and the inability to work as much as she could before, Abbott advocates for all those with severe and mild cases of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Abbott continues to photograph, working under the name, bonzaibaby Photography, having photographed celebrities including Holly Robinson Peete, Alfonso Riberio, Valarie Pettiford & Arthel Neville. Abbott is the creator and blogger for The Crazy Creole Mommy Chronicles & The HollyRod Foundation Influencer Circle. She is an advocate often representing The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation & The Digestive Disease National Coalition on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Abbott is a single mother of one son, Jax Lee Coltrane, and they currently reside in Los Angeles. Shawn Lacy Bullen is the co-founder and managing director of Biscuit Filmworks and Biscuit UK. She grew up in Washington DC to architect parents who fostered her entrepreneurial spirit and appreciation of art. Armed with a double major in French and political science from Duke University, she ignored the advice of family friend Jay Chiat to avoid advertising altogether, and immediately moved to New York to work at Young & Rubicam. Her journey in advertising, first in New York and later in Los Angeles with HKM, led her to work with then up-and-coming director Noam Murro. The two immediately hit it off and in 2000 co-founded Biscuit Filmworks, which today represents some of the top creative talent in advertising and is one of the most awarded commercial production companies in the world. As managing director, Shawn continues to expand the company’s roster, cultivate new talent relationships and oversee the production of an acclaimed portfolio of work. Her solid creative instincts have helped build Biscuit’s reputation for fostering and growing talent from within, and serving as a trusted partner for top advertising agencies around the world to deliver standout commercial projects. A consummate multi-tasker, Shawn is also the proud mother of four children, one in college, one in high school, and twin first graders. Her son Jett was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 2013, and she then became involved in the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation to help raise awareness and funding for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Roxy Sowlaty is a Beverly Hills native that has been working in design since the age of 16, when she started a clothing line with her sister Tara called RoxTar. Upon earning her undergraduate degree from USC’s Marshall School of Business, she decided to re-focus her design interests from fashion to interiors. She enrolled at Parsons New School of Design to obtain her masters degree in interior design. During this time in New York, she freelanced on a number of residential projects in Manhattan, as well as a home in Aspen – which certainly confirmed her love for interior design! Now back in California, she has opened her own interior design firm specializing in high end residential projects and is simultaneously launching an online 'do-it-yourself' interior design website and home goods product line. She had a stint on one of E!’s top hit shows for three seasons, displaying her entrepreneurial spirit in getting her line off the ground. It is with deep gratitude that Sowlaty is involved with such a high honor, as both her father and sister are affected by Crohn’s disease. She is determined to use her voice to make a difference and shed light on this otherwise very difficult subject matter.
