Presence Over Perfection: Your pre-shot routine should anchor you in the moment without rigid repetition that leads to overthinking. Expand Your Target, Reduce Your Stress: Instead of aiming for tiny, high-pressure targets, widen your focus to reduce anxiety and stay fluid. Short Game is Key: Invest more time in improving your shots within 100 yards—it's the quickest way to lower your score. Fairway Bunker Practice: Practicing in fairway bunkers improves your contact and ball striking on grass significantly. Daily Confidence Deposits: Revisit your best shots and great rounds to build belief in your abilities, especially after mistakes. Let Play Be Your Teacher: Approach practice with curiosity and experimentation rather than fear of mistakes. Key Quotes: "Your goal is to make the current shot as great as you possibly can." "Consistency is not achievable—progress is." "Your pre-shot routine should help you flow, not control." "Hitting a bad shot doesn't mean you're broken." Why is persevering worth it? In Romans 5:3-5, we get one of the main reasons why. The verse says, “...suffering produces perseverance and perseverance produces CHARACTER.” Great. One HUGE benefit to persevering is you get character. I get it - you desperately need character to not only keep in the race you're in but also WIN it. But HOW the heck do you persevere when things get tough? In today's 5 Minute Drill, we're going to tackle this as I continue my 4-part series on purpose pit stops. It's all about doubling down on a few particular habits that, when coupled with some prayer and praise, WATCH OUT! Talk about hurdle jumped (and then some). So, if you want to persevere like the best of the best do, then lock in to today's Drill. In this episode, you'll hear: Why skipping over prayer and praise doesn't work. The formula for persevering under challenging circumstances. Your mind, heart, and body's role in persevering. The mind-body connection and the need to treat the body right to keep the mind healthy. How much energy and brain space do your problems and challenges take up? Let's be honest, they take up more space than we typically want to admit. Two approaches usually happen when hurdles pop up: #1: Complain #2: Do everything humanly possible to find solutions to them (and don't stop until they're solved). #2 Seems better than #1, right? That's what us high achievers do…we find solutions. But at what cost? Oftentimes, it's burnout. Because we have a tendency to OBSESS about solving our problems, even when it's not our problem to solve. Then we wonder why we have more problems and less blessings in life. In today's 5 Minute Drill, let's talk about how to put yourself in position to receive more blessings in life. There's a key paradigm shift and process surrounding life problems that I want to share with you. I believe with every bone in my body that it will position you for more blessings and miracles in your life. If you want a better approach to addressing your problems and put yourself in better position to receive more blessings, then lock in to today's Drill. In this episode, you'll hear: The key paradigm shift and process that will position you for more blessings and miracles. The "L.A.P.S." acronym for overcoming challenges. The importance of surrendering your challenges and problems. The significance of concentrating on the source of the blessing vs. the problem. Key Quotes: "Your north star can change over time. And it's okay." "Strategy from my perspective…is how will we do it? Not what will we do." "With the right mindset, with the right skill set and the right tool set, you can move the world." Mike Simmons discusses life and business strategies using the game metaphor. He emphasizes finding a changing North Star, creating a clear GAME PLAN with goals, actions, metrics, and execution, and using the GAME FACE as an assessment. This approach helps individuals and businesses achieve success through structured, actionable steps. 5 Key Takeaways: Finding Your North Star: Your North Star is your guiding goal. It can change over time, reflecting growth and new insights. Identifying it helps focus your efforts on what truly matters. Creating a Game Plan: A game plan includes goals, actions, metrics, and execution. It organizes efforts to improve the likelihood of success. Clarity in the plan enhances focus and progress. Strategy vs. Tactics: Strategy defines how you will achieve your goals. Tactics are the specific actions taken to implement the strategy. Both are essential for effective execution and progress. GAME FACE Method: Focus, Accountability, Clarity, and Effort are crucial. Regular self-assessment helps maintain progress. Each element ensures you stay on track towards your goals. Reflecting and Adjusting: Regular reflection ensures your efforts are effective. Adjustments may be needed if progress stalls. Simplifying processes helps manage and measure progress. Connecting to the Theme "Find Your Catalyst": Identify Your Catalyst: Understand what drives you and set clear, meaningful goals. Regularly revisit and refine your goals as you grow. Strategize and Execute: Develop a clear plan and take actionable steps. Align your efforts with your long-term vision. Continuous Improvement: Use the GAME FACE method to stay focused and accountable. Regularly assess and refine your approach for better results.
There's a stark difference between being interested in improving your golf game and being committed to improving it. Unfortunately, many say they're committed, yet they're merely interested. In today's episode, you'll learn the difference between being interested in shooting lower scores versus being committed to shooting lower scores, as well as five specific areas you can bring commitment to so that you can begin shooting more pars than bogeys. Start listening. P.S. Curious about how hypnosis can help you shoot more pars than bogeys? Learn more about what hypnosis is and is not, how it works, and how it can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance. Learn more here. Key Points: Commitment is essential for improving your golf game and achieving your goals. Detach your self-worth from your golf score to avoid negative emotions and maintain healthy relationships. Being committed means taking action and following through, not just being interested. Choose one approach for swing technique and stick to it, avoiding distractions and conflicting advice. Create a pre-round course management strategy to make informed decisions and shoot the lowest score possible. Trust your instincts in club selection and commit to your chosen swing execution. Develop a practice routine that aligns with your goals and prioritize consistent effort and improvement. Key Quotes: "Your ability to manage your emotions and keep them in check to not allow them to the driver seat of your decisions in daily life, you need to strengthen that skill." "Committed can be defined as feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity or job. You are wholeheartedly dedicated. You are all in." When you podcast as a passion project, you need to have a why that keeps you going. When you podcast with the intent of turning it into a business, you need a plan to generate income to support the work. When you podcast in support of your existing business you need... well, it depends on your business. But whatever your business is, and however your show supports it, you need to know that what you are doing is working. So, the question we should all be asking ourselves, is: what is my podcast supposed to be **doing for my business? In a perfect world, that's an easy question to answer, and you have clear data to back that answer up. In this world, most company podcasts are doing a lot of things right and a few things wrong. While it's plainly successful enough to keep doing it - it's really hard to figure out why. However, it is possible to identify the specific ways your podcast is generating value for your business and track exactly how much value every month, giving you the clarity you need to make decisions about it.Tune in to the full episode to learn:The importance of identifying the overarching goal of your podcastTracking specific outcomes to determine its effectivenessMetrics for different types of podcastsTracking metrics and optimizing your podcast contentHighlights from the State of Business Podcasting ReportDon't forget to join us for our free monthly strategy calls on the third Thursday of every month!Effective Value Measurements for PodcastsHere's how it works:Identify the most important, overarching goal of your podcast. It will usually be one of the Business Podcast Blueprints: Thought Leadership, Relationship Building, Audience Engagement, Conversions or Content.Figure out the specific outcomes that indicate how well your podcast is meeting that overarching goal.Regularly track that outcome as a metric and optimize your podcast to get more of it.Then do it again and again for every different way your podcast is creating value for your company.Easy, right?Easy to say in any case. Doing it when you're 6 months or a year into production and there's always something running late is somewhat more complicated. So, let's run through a couple of examples here, so you can get a solid idea of how this process works. We'll start with an Audience Engagement Show.Audience EngagementThis is a type of podcast that I think is frequently overlooked in favor of the exponential possibilities in Relationship Building Shows, or the outward-facing nature of Thought Leadership ones. But you've heard the adage I'm sure that it's easier to sell more to an old customer than it is to get a new one. Well, by the same token, it's easier to nurture a relationship with someone who knows your name than make a fresh introduction, and that is where audience-building podcasts really shine.Shows with an Audience Engagement Blueprint exist primarily to engage people who are already aware of you - it could be clients, email subscribers, social media followers or fans, listeners, or traffic that are entering your orbit from other strategies like paid search or PR campaigns. So, let's say that Company A has this as their main overarching purpose - they want to engage and nurture people who, by whatever means, know who they are.The outcomes that are going to tell them it's working might be getting input and feedback from listeners on topics that matter to them, and less time spent on customer service because customers are being served and educated by the show. Now we assign metrics to those outcomes:For getting feedback and input, Company A has created different webpages or playlists for each of their podcast subtopics so that people can easily access the content they are most interested in, and the traffic to those pages, and downloads from those playlists are going to provide the data about how much of their audience is interested in each topic, informing their future content creation decisions. For an example of this in action, check out Amy Porterfield's Online Marketing Made Easy landing page, which we'll link in the show notes, among many other strategically excellent things you'll see on this page, is a section where you can choose different topics and immediately see episodes relating to it that you can click through, providing that juice data about audience-interest.For Customer service, Company A already has an idea of how much time they are spending per client on customer service each month, and they have created podcast episodes and segments to specifically address common concerns or problems and trained their team members to provide those segments and episodes to customers encountering those concerns. The change in the amount of time spent on customer service over time will tell them how well their content is helping educate the customers. Now let's look at how we might follow this process for a Relationship building show.Relationship BuildingThese are podcasts that exist primarily as a networking tool so you can meet the types of people who will be great additions to your professional network for reasons like becoming clients, referral partners, co-promoters, collaborators, and all the other good things that come from knowing lots of great people.Company R specifically wants their podcast to be a source of new networking partners that will refer business to them, and that will result in invitations to appear on other podcasts. So, let's assign metrics to these outcomes, and figure out how we track them. Some metrics can be found pretty easily, like the website traffic and download numbers we looked at above, but in other cases, things need to be a little more manual. For new business, podcasters will need to keep track of how many referrals each of their guests sends them every month, and over time look for patterns in the type of guest that was most interested in making those referrals. So, you might track email introductions from your different guests, or ask your new leads on discovery calls how they found out about you. This is good practice anyway, but the key here is to keep a regularly updated document with the information so you can see how much business your podcast guests are sending your way. Now, for invitations to your guests' podcasts, you'll have to make sure you are interviewing enough people who also have podcasts and adding a request or suggestion about an episode to some part of your guest management workflow.Just like for tracking referrals, you need a central location to keep track of the guest opportunities that result from the interviews you host on your own show. All strategic elements of relationship building need to be done with one important thing in mind:The relationship is the important part, and even when you have specific goals and metrics for outcomes you want, remember to put the human first! On the subject of doing exactly that, Atiba De Souza gave an amazing presentation at PFBCon in November - all about using podcasting as a tool to generate new relationships and partnerships in your industry, partnerships - it was an amazing talk and he had one particular tip I wanted to share with you today about preparing for when you're going to be a guest on other shows and how to be the kind of guest that not only gets invited back - but gets invited to do other things.https://vimeo.com/908014795?share=copyI love this idea, and not just for when you're preparing to be a guest, but when you are preparing for a guest to join you on your own show. (And if you want to hear Atiba's whole strategy - and that thing that happened to him back last January, you should grab a copy of the recordings of the Podcasting for Business Conference at PFBCon.com.) The principle at play here - taking the time to get to know the person you are talking to and what they care about - is the same when you're a host as when you're a guest, and investing in that, no matter what your specific goals are, is going to make it easier to reach them. Now obviously, there is a lot of work that goes into thinking about your podcast in this way - there is strategy and infrastructure required to make it work, and nuances that are going to be unique to you - but if you're willing to learn that strategy and DO that work, your podcast is going to generate much, much more value for your business - and perhaps more importantly - you're going to be able to see it happening, and have clarity on what is working and what isn't.While we're talking about clarity…Data Highlights from the State of Business Podcasting ReportI wanted to share a little insight my team and I gleaned from last year's State of Business Podcasting report - there was lots of interesting detail, and we'll be exploring it over the next few months, but there were three particular takeaways that I think can make a big difference to your strategy right away.As you probably know, every year we pull a list of the top 100 podcasts and evaluate them on about 70 different criteria to help establish trends and baseline best practices for those podcasting in support of a business. There were three particularly interesting takeaways this year:Social Media Promotion: Quality over Quantity. Both the number of social media channels used by the top 100 podcasts and the frequency of posting on them were down on most channels this year. This seems to indicate that podcasters were not finding enough ROI in really aggressive broad social media posting. (Although there certainly are still plenty of daily and multiple daily posting schedules - it's less than in previous years) The exception is LinkedIn which saw modest growth in usage but a significant increase in posting frequency. Daily posts have increased from 10% to 22% of the shows using the platform, and multiple posts per week have increased from 11% to 28%.Hooks are out. The hook, sometimes called a sizzle clip, is a clip from the interior of an episode played at the beginning before the intro and hello. A couple of years ago more than half of the shows we evaluated used hooks, but that number has been in steep decline and now only about 20% of the top shows use one (10% use a host-recorded intro in place of a hook - this trend might increase). My best theory for why this is happening is the popularity of short-form videos - those shorts, reels, and TikTok videos with good moments from episodes are serving the function of a hook in introducing the topic and teasing the value of full episodes. If you promote via short video clips, consider removing the hook from your episodes and getting into the content more quickly.Podcast Networks. There was a big jump this year in the number of the top shows that were part of podcast networks: 51% to 66%. There are different kinds of networks, topical (shows produced by the network or independently on a single theme) broadcast (news and other organizations that release using a podcast format among other media types), and content (companies whose whole purpose is creating and releasing content - not theme restricted). One of the bigger benefits of being in a podcast network is the cross-promotion to an existing audience - this is why so many are in the top 100 (not all stay!) close to their launch. This is a benefit you can mimic as an independent by collaborating with other shows for cross-promotions.There is so much more fun detail in this year's report, and I invite you to check it all out at podcastingforbusiness.com.Something we've got planned for future episodes is deep dives into specific data points we looked at for the top 100, as well as breakdowns of some of the shows that make up the list. We all need to think about very carefully to prevent us from comparing ourselves, because then that can make us not grateful for what we actually have accomplished already. In this Flashback Friday episode, we have Nicole Pendergrass. She is a wife, mom, full time W2 employee and real estate entrepreneur, with current multifamily holdings along the East Coast. She started her investing journey with no money, no credit and no connections but through taking action and pushing through obstacles, she built her credit and savings to finally purchase a 3 family house-hack. Leveraging mentorships, she systematically grew her portfolio and networth by redirecting her equity and retirement account into purchasing more multifamily properties.Experiencing the power of multifamily led her on a mission to help others experience the same. With two toddlers in tow, she founded her REI company, Noirvest Holdings, with the mission to close the gap by helping minority professionals build wealth passively by investing into 'privileged' multifamily cash-flowing assets. She loves reading, growth and personal development and hosts a free book club which meets weekly to discuss personal and business development oriented-books. In her downtime you can find her watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kids YouTube or playing games with her daughters.Nicole loves connecting with like-minded individuals and believes we all should have access and opportunity to live with abundance.________________________________Interested in investing in small multifamily? One of the things I believe the most strongly about podcasting is that doing it to support and grow an existing business is different than hosting a podcast for the love of the game—or as a business in and of itself.Your podcast needs to work with the other marketing you're doing, not to mention all of the other commitments you have to your team, clients, and community. It's because of this that we hosted the first Podcasting for Business Conference last year—and why we're about to do it again. On this episode of the Company Show, Tom Fox joins me as we talk PFBCon: what's coming, what we're excited about, and the different types of presentations and connections we're making available this year.If you want to get a little sneak peek of this year's Podcasting for Business Conference, listen to our conversation below, or continue reading the blog post!Tune in to the full episode to learn about:New and exciting topics for this yearWhat makes PFBCon different?A look into some of our notable speakersA new event, networking opportunities, and a valuable freebieEverything else that you need to know about this PFBCon 2023Don't forget to join us for our free monthly strategy calls on the third Thursday of every month! The conference for when podcasting is part of the jobSomething that comes up a lot for company podcasters is that it can be a challenge to integrate a show into your workflow, and harder to determine if it's actually doing anything for you or not. That can be frustrating because successful company podcasts are intensely valuable to the businesses that run them.A successful company show might:Be a lead generation machineCreate a flywheel of content that can be used across business areasShorten sales cycles and improve customer lifetime valueEstablish thought leadershipServe and support an existing audienceIf those are benefits you want to see, then you need to make sure your podcast and all of the activities around it, from planning to recording to promotion, are optimized to meet the business objectives that will make the most impact on your company. That's the sole focus of the Podcasting for Business Conference, and it's coming up again from November 13 to 15th of this year.New topics for this year's Podcasting for Business ConferenceJust like last year, we've got a really good array of topics that people are going to be covering and they're all really directed towards people who are podcasting in support of an existing business. If you podcast for the love of the game or you're podcasting as a business, you're still welcome, but it really is for supporting a business that exists. Here are some really exciting topics that are new this year:1. Interviewing strategy session on how to really effectively translate information from an expert to everyone else.If you find that you as a podcast host are talking to experts and you want to make sure that your audience of laypeople or people who don't know as much about the topic can really understand it, this is going to be a super valuable one.2. Collaborating with a team.A lot of people podcasting for business, of course, they've either got a member of their team managing the podcast or they're working with a third-party service provider. There are a lot of different ways to talk about, edit, figure out where in the process everything is, project, and manage the whole thing. So we've got a session specifically on collaborating with a remote team about podcasting.3. A different way to think about your podcast reach.Typically you think about downloads, you might think about people who listen, you might think about listeners, you might think about engagement. But it turns out that is just a very small part of your overall podcast reach. And if you properly look at it in a much more holistic way, you see that a business or a podcast that is being used by a business can have exponentially more touch points, exponentially more engagement, and exponentially more use. And these are all social media tools that are available to you at little or no cost.Once you begin to understand the power of your reach, you can start to craft and graft a social media marketing strategy beyond simply the subject matter expertise you want to show or whatever it is you're trying to demonstrate with your podcast.I've been working on this topic for a long time and I finally got some solid numbers. I'm thrilled to share this with our audience because I think it's going to open a lot of eyes and more importantly, get people thinking about the podcast strategy as much more holistic than simply showing yourself as a true subject matter expert.4. A preview of The State of Business Podcasting Report 2023We get to hear the always incredible State of Business Podcasting Report, in which you will preview shiny data with the shiny data that you've been working on.5. Deep Dive WorkshopsThere are going to be deep dive workshops about how to measure podcast success on the fly audio editing and troubleshooting, and the very latest, best practice data for company podcasts from the State of Business Podcasting Report. As Tom Fox said, these workshops are like interactive roundtables where we draw on each other's experiences.Visit this link to see our full speaker lineup and the topics that they're going to get into! What makes PFBCon different? There's lots of great podcasting information out there. There's amazing training, there's amazing events, there's a fantastic community. But a lot of it really is predicated on the fact that you're doing it for the love of podcasting or this is something that you're doing specifically as a business. And for a lot of podcasters, that's just not the reality. You're podcasting, but you also have a whole business to run or you have a whole day job. And a lot of the information that's provided is kind of assuming that the podcast is a standalone rather than an integrated part of a holistic marketing strategy. And so being able to gather a bunch of information coming from that premise, I think is going to be really valuable to people. And of course, it's all online because we have day jobs and can't necessarily travel all the time. Some of the expert speakers in our lineup1. Mary Ann FaremouthMary Ann has literally blown up her little part of the world with her podcast.I'm so gratified that she's willing to come and kind of share some of her experiences and some of the strategies that she's employed. She works in the recruiting space and working with careers, working with big companies, and working with job seekers. Her podcast, she started it and has been able to leverage the relationships that she's making for business development and also the content that she's creating that's all reflecting well in her business into national radio syndication. So she's going to be presenting specifically on how careful and strategic guest selection can make a really big difference in the results that you see from your podcast. And this is completely irrespective of what your download numbers are. That's something that I'm really hoping we get into a lot and that a lot of the speakers are going to touch on is that downloads and we'll be going into this in our workshop. In our workshop, downloads are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to measuring the impact, value, and reach of a podcast, and very often are the least important part. There are so many other ways to figure out what your reach is and to measure your benefit. And Mary Ann is going to be just a great example of that.2. Danielle Desir CorbetReturning fan favorite Danielle Desir is going to be coming back to do a new event type that we have at the conference this year. She's a podcast marketing consultant. She's a very successful podcaster. But SEO is really one of her superpowers. She's going to be, along with two other experts, in Ask the Expert sessions where it's going to be Q and A the entire time for questions about how to apply it to your business, specific use cases that you want to try out, issues that you've run into. We're going to have a lot of really dedicated question-and-answer time and podcast SEO as if you attended last year and were able to see your presentation can be huge. And we're all making tons of mistakes and leaving tons of low-hanging fruit on the table.Danielle's presentation is going to be absolutely one to catch and some of the other creative ones that we're looking at.3. Jenny BlakeI'm also excited about Jenny Blake, who is doing really interesting things with private podcast feeds to build community as part of her business. She's going to be sharing what she is doing. I'm a member of some of them, full disclosure, and I also help produce, but that's going to be, I think, really valuable for people who do have large audiences and are looking for different ways to engage them. It's going to be a game-changer.4. Jennifer HanWe've got case studies coming from Jennifer Han.She's the marketing officer at Ausha, which is a podcast platform, and she's going to be talking about five real-life examples of how podcasts have really connected brands with their audiences and that's going to have some fantastic takeaways for everybody.Visit this link to see our full speaker lineup! When Will The Podcasting for Business Conference Happen?PFBCon is happening from the 13th to the 15th of November this year. And it's all virtual, it's all online, everything is going to be recorded because you probably have things that are happening during the day. But it's also all happening live, virtually, unlike a lot of conferences where you watch a presentation and then maybe you'll get the chance to talk to the presenter afterward.Every single presentation is going to be followed by a live Q&A. So you can either think about the topic and submit questions in advance if you can't be there, or you can be there live and get an actual response to an issue that you're having in your business. That's in addition to specific networking events and the conference slack that we're going to be putting together. So there's going to be lots of opportunities for connection with the speakers, with other experts, with industry professionals, and with fellow podcasters.Coffee: A start to each day of PFBConEvery day we're going to start, before getting into the sessions, the content portion of the day, just with a little chance to kind of go around the table, introduce yourself, who you're talking about. We're going to have guest experts giving little lessons on their area of expertise and then go into breakout rooms to practice the skills right at that time. So I can spill the beans on one of them.I just confirmed with Angie Trueblood, speaker last year, owner of the Podwize Group, and expert on guest pitching. We'll have a little conversation between her and I and then everyone in the welcome session is going to get a chance to go and practice and go talk about what has just been learned. So hopefully a little skill-building and a chance to get to know some other attendees of the event. It's going to be a lot of fun. So we're going to have something like that every morning of the three days.A Wide Array of Networking OpportunitiesIn the afternoon, we have three different types of bigger networking events.Day 1: Podcast speed networkingYou're going to show up, you'll be put into a room with someone else, you'll get to know each other, and then boom, you're going to go to another one.Hopefully, it'll be a chance to meet a whole variety of other people, industry professionals, or fellow podcasters and make connections that you can use.Day 2: Networking groupIt's similar to the first one but with a longer time to chat with people rather than rushing from person to person for current and future podcasters. If you are podcasting, if you're podcurious, this is going to be the networking event for you to go to meet other people who are in the same situation, and who are podcasting for their businesses.Day 3: Industry professionals networkingThis is for people who are providing the services, providing the tech, and working on the tools. It's a chance to get together and talk shop; which we all do when we get together. Hopefully, we'll create some space for that and it'll be a lot of fun.How To Join the Podcasting for Business ConferenceJust go to www.pfbcon.com, where the tickets are available. Here are the two kinds:1. All-Access PassWith this, you can attend everything and get all the perks that PFBCon has to offer.2. Recordings OnlyIf you know that you're not going to be able to attend live, you can just buy the recordings and it's completely fine. You can still submit questions and get real answers!PFBCon Freebie: Learn what other business podcasters are doingAfter we present The State of Business Podcasting Report 2023, the audience will get a copy of the entire report and my team's detailed analysis of it and how to apply the latest data about best practices for podcasting for business, for your own podcast. We've been doing this since 2020. We look at the top 100 business podcasts and we evaluate them between 50 and 70 different criteria to really establish what are the best practices for social media, for episode length, for cover art.We put all that together into a report and talk about how you can use it.The Value of The State of Business Podcasting ReportTom Fox gives a lot of talks to local businessmen and small groups about the power of podcasting for business, and he uses this report as the basis of his talk. It's a fabulous resource. It will give you, the podcaster or the business owner real solid data about what works. Or more importantly, there's a variety of ways. There's not one thing that works in podcasting. There are multiple things, and the SOBP report will detail that from things such as podcast length, cadence, cover, art, day to release, and time of release. It's a fascinating, data-filled report that you can use with actionable insight. It is also the second coolest thing that we do every year.I really like having it because it's important to make decisions that are appropriate for your business and for your podcast. But sometimes you just want to know what's the right thing to do, and it's really nice to be able to go, how long should my episodes be? It's 44 minutes. That's how long they are. And it's nice to have that kind of thing to fall back on.In terms of best practice, at least that I have found, there hasn't been a really good benchmark for what are these business podcasts doing and what is best practice, so you can always do what is best for you, but it's nice to know what the rest of them are doing too.A Quick Guide to PFBCon 20231. How to get tickets?Visit www.pfbcon.com to register.2. Our expert speakersWe have an incredible lineup of 18 speakers who are going to be delivering live presentations with Q and A.Some of those presentations are going to be all 100% Q and A on really mission-critical topics for company podcasting.3. Networking eventsThere are going to be networking events for finding guests and guesting opportunities, meeting industry professionals who can help you grow your show, and just connecting with other podcasters to share insight and ideas and a little bit of support.5. Can't attend live?If you know that you're not going to be able to attend live, that's all right. We've got a Recordings Only pass that will entitle you to access to all of the conference recordings and you'll also be able to join that Slack group so that you can still network. You can still submit questions and have them answered by the experts when you view those recordings. So if this sounds good, and I hope it does, then check out the conference website, www.pfbcon.com, and get your ticket. It's all happening November 13 to 15th and I cannot wait to see you there!Key Quotes"Your podcast needs to work with the other marketing you're doing, not to mention all of the other commitments you have to your team, clients, and community. Do you struggle with "follow-up" for your prospects? Or, maybe you struggle because you only do follow-up in one form (e.g. cold calls or emails)? If yes, then welcome to the club! We all struggle with it. Prospecting is difficult and confusing and most agencies don't have someone to teach you how to do it because no one else there knows how to do it, either! In this episode of the Millionaire Insurance Producer podcast, host Charles Specht will explain not only why having a systematized "follow-up" is both wise and necessary to growing your Book of Business, but he'll take you through a step-by-step prospecting follow-up program he recommends to many people in his 12X Commission Mastermind. PS: If you're interested in learning more about the 12X Commission Mastermind, visit my website at: www.12x.club Episode Highlights: Charles discusses the 12x Commission Mastermind. (08:00) Charles discusses the process of setting up a follow-up program, which includes methods such as cold calls, emails, and social media engagement, along with participation in networking events, soliciting referrals, and incorporating additional elements. (12:01) Charles shares a scenario showcasing diverse ways to prospect, including through cold calls and emails. (15:52) Charles mentions that layering the prospecting follow-up leads to exponential results, as they follow a systematic process, ensuring long-term, measurable results. Is your business prepared to effectively manage and mitigate the risks associated with sanctions compliance in today's global economic landscape? In today's increasingly interconnected global economy, sanctions compliance is more critical than ever. Companies around the world face complex regulatory environments and unprecedented risks, requiring a comprehensive and proactive approach to sanctions compliance. In this episode of Corruption, Crime and Compliance, Michael Volkov explores the pressing need to elevate corporate sanctions compliance programs, as well as the renewed focus on enforcement by the Department of Justice, and the practical steps every company must take to meet these evolving challenges head-on.You'll hear Michael talk about:Companies must enhance their sanctions compliance programs. Basic programs that simply rely on screening tools are no longer sufficient. Companies need to incorporate comprehensive measures to ensure compliance with evolving sanctions laws. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has escalated the enforcement of national security crimes, demonstrating a renewed focus on sanctions compliance. This shift necessitates a proactive response from companies to mitigate potential risks. The OFAC has outlined five crucial elements for an effective sanctions compliance program: management commitment, risk assessment, internal controls, testing and audit, and training. Companies should familiarize themselves with these elements and incorporate them into their existing compliance programs.Risk assessment is a crucial first step in compliance. Companies must review their operations holistically, assessing all touchpoints with international markets to identify potential vulnerabilities and risks.Geoblocking technology is a valuable tool in sanctions compliance. Working with IT departments to develop comprehensive geoblocking capabilities can help prevent interactions with prohibited individuals or entities.Thorough screening and due diligence processes are imperative, moving beyond just the results of screening tools. This ensures that companies identify and mitigate potential risks associated with sanctioned entities or countries.Companies must implement effective escalation controls to ensure that any red flags identified through screening or due diligence are properly addressed and resolved.End-user verifications and documentation are critical components of a robust sanctions compliance program. These procedures help ensure that the company's products or services are not being used by sanctioned entities.Annual training for employees and personnel is essential. Tailoring this training to the company's specific risk profile ensures that all staff understand their responsibilities and the potential risks associated with non-compliance.KEY QUOTES:"Your company's survival may depend on your ability to navigate sanctions compliance in an increasingly complex global economy." - Michael Volkov"It's not just about checking boxes. We have to understand our touchpoints to the international markets and assess the potential risks. That's the foundation of an effective compliance program." - Michael Volkov"Training isn't a one-and-done task. It's an ongoing commitment to ensure our personnel understand and can navigate the complex world of sanctions compliance." - Michael VolkovResources:Michael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

Corporate culture is the most valuable intangible asset that a company owns. In this week's episode of Corruption, Crime and Compliance, Michael Volkov discusses the importance of corporate culture for ethics and compliance programs. He emphasizes the need for business leaders to understand the significance of corporate culture on the ground level and outlines steps and tasks needed to build and maintain a positive culture. You'll hear Michael discuss:Corporate culture is an embodiment of a company's values and interactions with key stakeholders. Every company has a distinct culture that defines its purpose and motivations.Senior leadership plays a critical role in embedding the culture and enforcing the message. Managers and employees take their cues from corporate leaders.Companies have to hold leaders accountable for wrongdoing or failure to supervise. Leaders who promote ethical cultures should be rewarded, while those who engage in misconduct should suffer discipline up to termination and recoupment of financial benefits.Transparency and publicizing corporate rewards and discipline are crucial to building trust, increasing employee engagement, and promoting a positive culture. A company's most significant reflection of its culture is employee perception and rates of misconduct.CCOs have to redefine their media tasks and responsibilities to reflect the emphasis on corporate culture. They have to define specific ways to measure a company's culture, regularly report on these measures, and monitor indicators of culture misconduct, reporting issues, financial concerns, and HR issues.Monitoring, intervention, and remediation require a real-time focus and constant questioning of trends, interventions, and measurement of results. Working collaboratively with HR, legal, and finance can bring about real culture improvements with a joint mission focused on ethics and compliance.KEY QUOTES"Your corporate culture, your culture of ethics and compliance is your best control. It's your most effective and most important control, and it's your most valuable intangible asset." - Michael Volkov"A robust reporting system with active participation is a positive, not a negative, reflection of a company's culture." - Michael Volkov"Companies that wait for a scandal to occur before acting have failed to do their job. Proactive compliance means prevention and focusing on your company's culture." - Michael VolkovResources:Michael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

On this episode of the Crime, Corruption and Compliance podcast, host Michael Volkov discusses the Department of Justice's recent focus on incentives and disincentives as part of an effective ethics and compliance program. This includes awards for ethical conduct, clawbacks, and deferred payment schemes to hold officers and employees accountable for misconduct, and requirements for executives to be evaluated on their compliance with laws and regulations. Michael also talks about how companies can create appropriate policies and procedures to incentivize and monitor compliance and how to design and implement a compensation system that ensures compliance. Key ideas you'll hear in this episode: DOJ stresses the need for positive incentives for ethical conduct, including awards and annual employee performance reviews.Companies already have a strong disincentive for engaging in misconduct, which is termination.Recent enforcement actions against companies like Novartis and Wells Fargo have highlighted the gap in the incentive-disincentive framework.DOJ is examining the efficacy of clawbacks and deferred payment schemes as an important alternative to massive criminal fines against companies. This will hold the bad actors accountable, as well as those who had supervisory responsibilities and failed to act.Clawbacks and punishments for bad actors will need to be incorporated into settlements and terminations. Company policies will need to include more protections and discretion to pull back benefits from bad actors. There are a number of issues to consider when implementing a clawback program, including who it applies to, how it is triggered, and how much of the company's bonus payments should be subject to clawback.DOJ anticipates requiring a wide clawback program that extends to senior management level. Crafting these measures will require a collaborative process within the company involving legal and business representatives, human resources, ethics and compliance, senior management, and potentially union representatives or work councils.Danske Bank is the first to implement a compliance compensation requirement in their settlement papers with the Justice Department. The settlement includes a provision that executives will be evaluated on their compliance efforts and a failing score will make them ineligible for bonuses.Companies need to design and implement compensation systems to incentivize compliance behavior and create disincentives for non-compliant conduct.KEY QUOTES:“Your company policies are going to have to incorporate more protections and more discretion for the company to pull back on benefits to bad actors. Bad actors here, I mean not just the actual bribe payer or scheme designer, but also those people who failed to conduct proper oversight and monitoring of the department that engaged in the misconduct.” - Michael Volkov “In practice, companies need to formulate appropriate policies and procedures, document their system, and demonstrate commitment to enforcement of the policies to incentivize compliance behavior and create clear disincentives for noncompliant conduct.” - Michael Volkov“A compliance-oriented compensation system has to be implemented along with other clawback and deferred payment systems.” - Michael VolkovResourcesMichael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

How often do you compare yourself to others? The data shows that 10% percent of your thoughts involve comparisons of some kind. Are your comparisons helping you or hurting you? Yes, comparisons could help…but only in certain situations. I dig deeper on this on today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show. If you want to make sure you're staying away from the comparisons that hurt you and your goals, then make sure to lock in to today's Drill. LET'S GET IT! [00:01 - 12:14] Opening Segment J.R. shares a story about a painful lesson he learned from a business mistake [12:15 - 19:11] What's The Drill? STEP 1: Ask yourself, “What does God think about me?” but go one step further…REMIND yourself constantly what God says about you (e.g. Bible reading and Scripture memorization). STEP 2: Leverage the science and create some healthy competition in your life to trigger some motivation for you…find that person next to you in the same race. Identify who you admire or who inspires you that's ONE step ahead. NOT 10 steps ahead…ONE step ahead. Once you have that person identified, dig for clues. What traits do they have that you admire? When you have the traits of this person listed out, dig deeper…ask yourself how those traits align with you and what God thinks of you? What can you do to leverage your strengths better? STEP 3: Get a mentor, Accountability Partner, or Coach STEP 4: Practice DAILY GRATITUDE. Make it a point to practice focusing DAILY on how far you've come in life rather than how far you haven't been able to go. BONUS STEP: Create an intentional social media consumption strategy. Which type of person are you… #1 - Wants to win and will do whatever it takes to win? OR… #2 - Wants to win and hopes things will work out in your favor? I'm guessing you're #1, right? I hear a lot of “I'll do whatever it takes, J.R.” from people, but when it comes to the mental and emotional work required for winning consistently, they slack off. The reality is, our thoughts affect our emotions… Our emotions affect our body, and… Our body is what drives our performance and behaviors. They're links in the same chain. If one link is broken, the whole chain is. I unpack this further on today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show with human performance expert, sports psychologist, and author, Dr. Amber Selking. In this latest episode, Amber and I talk about… What we need to be aware of when it comes to mental and emotional fitness How to make your team better through a common language around emotional fitness What's a must to improve our daily mental health …and so much more. If you want to be better positioned to win more often, then don't miss today's episode. [00:01 - 10:32] Introducing Dr. Amber to the show Amber's most embarrassing moment Amber's background, story and professional journey [10:33 - 14:43] What we need to be aware of when it comes to mental and emotional fitness Thoughts affect our emotions…our emotions affect our physiological responses (HR, muscle tension, visual field, hormones, etc.)...how our bodies are will drive our performance and behaviors Many times, we recognize our emotions or physiological responses FIRST (instead of our thoughts), but we can move up and down the chain (i.e. thoughts, emotions, physiological response) Emotions are the most volatile in the chain (vs. thoughts and behaviors) Your emotions drive and often undermine the very thing you're trying to accomplish. If you care about winning, then you need to understand how your emotions help you win or make you lose. Then, take action about it. We can talk about emotions in a non-emotional way. [14:44 - 28:11] How to make your team better through a common language around emotional fitness Get systems in place that allow the language and messaging to be replicated on a consistent basis Leaders with a system can talk about it holistically and in an organized way. They're able to dissect more easily what went well and what didn't Must have clarity around your vision, mission, and process for success, and then being courageous enough to stick to it for the long-term so your people can actually get on board with it How to teach your people to demonstrate more courage? Starts with identity. Leaders must know the answers to… Why do you do what you do? What are you core values? What's your general philosophy on leadership, winning, etc. What do you want to accomplish? How do you want to be remembered? …Then, make sure everything is aligned with those things [28:12 - 31:36] The distinction between mental illness and mental health and what we need to be more aware of Resource: The Science of Happiness (Ted Talk by Sean Aker) Anxiety & depression (illness) vs. mental health (practices, like gratitude, meditation, etc.) Anxiety and depression is a mindset - it's a protein pattern that gets wired into our brain based on what we think about Most of the drugs treating mental illness were originally set for patients coming out of surgery - the drug masks the protein pattern. When you take the drug away, it's still there [31:37 - 45:58] What's a must to improve our daily mental health We have to have processes in place to train our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual areas of life Amber's analogy: we don't go to the gym 1x and be good for the year. Just like we train physically, must train mentally, emotionally, and spiritually Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual are actually our four energy systems - we must know what drains and what fuels them Includes evaluating your habits - you may have habits that helped you in one season that are now hurting you in your current season. Life is a series of seasons. We must make sure our routines match the season we're in. Accountability - you need people that will watch your life, call you out if you're shooting at the wrong basket, and help you make in-game adjustments to be the player and the person that you're trying to be [45:59 - 49:26] Wrapping Up Amber's BIG domino How to connect with Amber KEY QUOTES “Your emotions drive and often undermine the very thing you're trying to accomplish.” - Dr. Amber Selking “If you care about winning, then you need to understand how your emotions help you win or make you lose.” - Dr. Amber Selking “Life is a series of seasons. People pay millions of dollars every year on books and courses to help them discover their purpose and define their goals, but there's an important step you MUST take BEFORE all of that… It's a step that DRIVES everything else. It's called defining your core values. Your values tell me what it is about YOU that causes you to want what you want. Your values explain to me why you're naturally inclined to pursue certain goals or make certain decisions. In my experience, an elite performer with no clear vision, mission, or purpose can still make initial progress IF they're clear on their values. In today's 5-Minute Drill, I kick off a 3-part series on helping you not only clarify your core values, but also leverage them daily to unlock your highest capabilities and achieve the levels of success you deserve. If you want more consistency in your life and game, then make sure to lock in to today's Drill. LET'S GET IT! [00:01 - 07:23] Opening Segment J.R. shares about a period of extreme exhaustion in his life and career and how it related to his values [07:24 - 10:59] What's The Drill? STEP 1: Grab a piece of paper or journal and start a list… Think about people you admire. Start with family, friends, and teammates (past and present) that you admire. Write their names down. Next to their names, write down what it is about them that you admire. Think about qualities, character, attributes, things they stand for, etc. STEP 2: Start a second list. Think about other people you admire outside of family, friends, and teammates. They don't necessarily have to be living and they also could be fictional in nature (e.g. Martin Luther King, TV series characters, etc.). Write their names down. Next to their names, write down what it is about them that you admire. Think about qualities, character, attributes, things they stand for, etc. STEP 3: Tune in for next week's Drill to continue Part 2 of this Clutch Values exercise… [11:00 - 12:07] Wrapping Up! Your emotions are the glue to make your habits stick. Case in point: Two people are trying to lose 50 pounds: #1 - just wants to lose 50 lbs for losing weight's sake #2 - knows that, if he doesn't lose the weight, he won't be able to play with his kids in a few years I'll put my money on the dude who has his kids on his mind every day on his weight loss journey… Because he's going to be emotionally driven to lose those 50 pounds. In today's 5-Minute Drill, I'm going to help you not only commit to an anxiety-preventing habit, but also emotionally connect to it... Because I want this habit to STICK for you so you have LESS anxiety in your life. LET'S GET IT! [00:01 - 05:22] Opening Segment J.R. shares a story about how he was living in a constant state of anxiety during the Champions Rise Challenge he co-founded and co-hosted during the height of the pandemic. [05:23 - 12:10] What's The Drill? Tackling the Anxiety Triad Pick ONE point in the Triad (unrealistic standards, perfectionism, or being “always on”). Then do the OPPOSITE of it. Here's how… If you picked… Unrealistic standards or expectations - identify where your standards or expectations may be too high or unrealistic. Then ask yourself, “what's more realistic? Considering where I'm at right now in life or in my game or in this relationship, what's more realistic?” Pursue that expectation and only once you hit that, then raise your bar. Perfectionism - Identify where you're being a perfectionist. Is it going 4 for 4 today because you had an 0-4 day yesterday? Is it nailing EVERY point with perfection on that presentation you have to make? Is it making sure everything goes as planned with your kids today? Once you identify where you're being a perfectionist, determine how you're going to give yourself some more grace. Then commit to that. Being ALWAYS ON - simply put, schedule yourself some breaks. It's a necessary part of getting into flow and unlocking your best. [12:11 - 14:09] Wrapping Up! I got a listener question this week and it was, "what do you do when the heirs can't agree on a sales price for the property in the estate"? That's a really good question, but I have to tell you that in reality, you get it less often than you might think. However, over time it will happen so it's good to know how to handle that situation. In this short episode, I will tell you how I handle those conversations and you can put your own spin on it. Key Highlights: [00:01 - 02:10] Opening Segment • An overview of how to get the family to agree on a sales price for a property [02:11 - 06:28] What Do You Do When the Heirs Can't Agree on a Sales Price? • It is important to be realistic about what needs to be done to fix up the property Be prepared to discuss those costs with the family representative • What's most important is to listen to the family's concerns • Get the family involved in the discussion and know what they would do if they lived there [06:29 - 07:48] Closing Segment • You should go back to the facts and the costs Key Quotes: "Your goal is to get the family involved in the discussion and get them invested in seeing themselves in the property." - Sharon Vornholt WANT TO LEARN MORE? What if you were told that your best friend, spouse, and parent to your kids had just 30 days to live? Just typing that question is tough for me to stomach. This is the reality that Mike Fumagalli faced, with one exception… He didn't know his wife, Kirsten, was going to pass just 27 days after receiving her cancer diagnosis. It just happened. Mike is a close friend, educator, father, as well as President and co-founder of the Clear Ribbon Foundation. And he's one of the strongest, most resilient men I've ever met. I sit down with him today on the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show and get very real about overcoming the deepest levels of grief and trauma… Because the truth is - EVERYONE - battles grief and trauma at some level. You may be battling some level of it right now and not even know it. If it's not resolved, it slowly destroys you little by little. And it destroys your most important relationships, too. In this latest episode, Mike and I talk about… How to move forward after a debilitating tragedy Why it's so important to acknowledge and process grief How to recognize and resolve unresolved trauma …and so much more. Mike even has a special message for you if you're married with kids. If you want to learn how to be more resilient, especially in the face of adversity and tragedy, then don't miss today's episode. And if someone around you is struggling with grief, trauma, or has a loved one affected by cancer, please share this episode with them. Mike's wisdom will bless and inspire them abundantly. [00:01 - 07:37] Introducing Mike to the Show Mike's most embarrassing moment and the lesson learned from it Mike's story and background [07:38 - 16:06] How to move forward after a debilitating tragedy Your ability to overcome obstacles and be resilient in the times when your life most demands is already in you. You have to find it. You must practice the key pillars of resilience in order to develop effective resilience in your life. You can't wish yourself into being resilient. Routines of continuous improvement (e.g. workout everyday, make bed, 10 minutes early for every meeting) Routines become habit and a way of thinking (they save you from the spiral of getting out of control) Resilience = changing the narrative in your head Your life is having a generational impact one way or another. That impact is up to you [16:07 - 21:15] How to best care for others during your own hardship Find someone who can lead, guide, mentor, coach, and shepherd you Find someone who can help you overcome trauma - your brain doesn't know difference between old trauma and new trauma [21:16 - 29:54] Why it's so important to acknowledge and process grief If you don't process grief, you'll be a prisoner of it. And you'll pass that on to your kids and that will have a generational impact. Grief is the gap between what your anticipated outcome of an event was and what actually happened (there's incompleteness)...and you don't like the distance between those things. The distance between those things is proportional to the magnitude of your grief. You have to figure out how to close the gap. If you don't, and that chasm remains open, there are deep wounds that will continue to manifest and will be passed on to our children We MUST Recognize, Acknowledge, Resolve We are not in the position to judge another person's grief - there's grief of all kinds, and because we're not the person experiencing grief, we're not able to assess it [29:55 - 40:44] How to recognize and resolve unresolved trauma Must understand how BODY responds to trauma so you're better able to mitigate the effects of trauma Name it, recognize it, mitigate it “Turn blue thoughts to TRUE thoughts” Find community - going into isolation is the EASY thing to do There's a time for reflection, but when reflection turns into isolation, that's where trouble and unresolve happens There's power in a community that is experiencing similar things as you. There's hope, healing, compassion, understanding, transparency, and vulnerability, which formulates human connection [40:45 - 45:05] A message from Mike to those who are married with children Your life can change really fast - you can't let the sun set on things that are silly and insignificant Be prepared - important have a plan in place Know and appreciate the little, silly things (even the sometimes annoying ones) Recognize that tomorrow is NOT guaranteed Mike's BIG domino: Value and love each other and your family in a way that if tomorrow never came, you can say you loved and lived fully and completely (not perfectly) [45:06 - 49:27] Wrapping Up How to connect with Mike KEY QUOTES “Your ability to overcome obstacles and be resilient in the times when your life most demands is already in you. And so, it's never just on 100%.' ‘People actually learn better in groups than they do singly, whether that's in-person one-to-one or in asynchronous remote settings.'‘Psychological safety basically means ”Am I relaxed enough in this setting that I have enough space in my brain to be immersed. If I'm not, I'm not ready to learn."‘I think of immersion as a kind of neural prosthetic. It gives me this sort of superpower where I can be more effective as a social creature.'‘In the animal literature there was a very rich vein of growing neuroscience, identifying oxytocin as a signal that a member of your species is safe or familiar.'‘Employees that work with stronger social connections are more productive. They enjoy their jobs more and we've shown, they shed the stress of work more rapidly when the workday's over.'‘We've shown in experiments when leaders articulate the social purpose of work, people put in so much more discretionary effort, because we're helping the world. And that's what social creatures generally want to do.' “The arc of all my professional work has been creating knowledge and technologies to increase happiness in the world at the individual level, at the organizational level, the societal level.'To find out more about Paul Zak:Immersion Neuroscience website https://www.getimmersion.comWebsite https://pauljzak.com Twitter https://twitter.com/pauljzakLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-zak-91123510/ This series is supported by Squadcast –the remote recording platform which empowers podcasters by capturing high-quality audio and video conversations. This episode starts out full force and doesn't slow down as Taylor and Sam Johnston, of Alpha Body System, kick off the discussion by talking about the power and need to invest in ourselves, specifically our health. Taylor mentions something profound that Sam dives into with more detail. This is the sense that many of us don't even know what “good” feels or looks like. This is why investing in our own personal health and fitness is necessary. We see so many on the “after” side of the fitness journey and think that can never happen for us because we are in the “before.” We become complacent with the way things are. But when we start our wellness journey, all of the obstacles we face (like chronic illness) fade away, and feeling good starts to take on new meaning. With Sam's challenge to us that we should be radically different from others in our lives and to “be the weirdo,” the discussion transitions to the different ways and actions we can take to be able to invest in ourselves with everyone's favorite word– free. Taylor suggests things we have heard on the podcast before but become so much more meaningful when we think about the different benefits they could provide to us in the future. Things like sun exposure– watch the sunrise, guys. Taylor will even give you bonus points when you watch the sunrise barefoot! Get your body moving and go for a walk. Don't forget about the power of in-person meetings and connections, even physical touch. The all-important aspect of sleep. Practice your breathing– deep breathing, extend your exhale, maybe even breathing for performance as Taylor talks about as well. Finally, invest in your mindfulness as well with journaling and/or meditation. These are all things that are free, readily available, and can be done immediately. But what if you want to kick it up a notch? Invest in yourself financially, maybe? Both Taylor and Sam agree that the best way to go about this is to hire a coach. Whatever area of life you are trying to improve upon, hiring a coach could be the answer you are looking for. It will save you time which is a return on investment in more than one way.Tune in to learn more!Key Quotes“Your health is your Alpha system. When your health is on point, every… area of your life is better. You make more money. You have more energy. You have more confidence. You bring more value to the people in your life.” –Samuel Johnston“Your physical representation is a direct representation of your inner world.” –Taylor MorganKey Timestamps[6:18] – The episode starts with Sam Johnston talking about investing in yourself– specifically your health;[8:50] – The more you invest, the greater the ROI;[13:20] – Because of their baseline experience, people don't really know what “good” looks or feels like;[16:10] – The power of “imagine”;[19:30] – Your brain is a vast library, your conscious attention is a floating flashlight;[25:35] – The word ‘organic' should change to ‘not poison';[31:25] – Free things to do to invest in yourself– first, direct exposure to the sun;[32:10] – Movement, even if you just go for a walk;[41:57] – More free things– in-person connections, breathing, sleep, journaling, mindfulness and meditation;[1:02:14] – Investing financially? In today's 5-Minute Drill, I share a strategy that will help you get more of what you want done and eliminate all the BS causing chaos on your calendar… So YOU can achieve BIG things. In today's 5-Minute Drill, J.R. digs into a more effective alternative to affirmations. He's going to share a strategy that actually works when it comes to positive self-talk and affirmations as a way to increase confidence - because there's a big misconception about affirmations out there. Too many people are taking this wrong approach and actually hurting themselves mentally and emotionally more than helping. LET'S GET IT! [00:01 - 06:17] Is Your Affirmation Helping or Hurting You? Backstory on a broken affirmation When you say an affirmation to yourself, but don't believe it, it's ineffective [06:18 - 09:24] What's the Drill? Step 1: Identify where you're lacking confidence. If you can dig into the exact feelings you're feeling, even better. Step 2: Hit the recall button through visualization. If it helps you, get in a quiet place and close your eyes. Think about all the times you felt this way…felt this lack of confidence before. Start collecting mental notes of all the things you did to overcome it and move past it. Are there any specific victories you had as a result? Step 3: Create a Victories Vault Come out of your visualization and write it all down. WHENEVER you're in a place where you forgot how you've overcome these stretches and struggles in your life and career, you can pull up your vault to remind you of the character traits you have and the behaviors you did. Step 4: Attach a TRUTH to your AFFIRMATION I am _______ (affirmation) because ________ (truth) [09:25 - 11:09] Wrapping Up! What's coming up on the next episode Final words KEY QUOTES “Your affirmations are EMPTY without revelations of truth.” - J.R. CONNECT WITH J.R.
